Obama Campaign: Romney Will Veto The DREAM Act, Full Stop
President Obama’s re-election campaign is highlighting MItt Romney’s opopsition to the DREAM Act, which he has pledged to veto, saying his softer tone on immigration can’t be trusted. Romney has not walked back his opposition to allowing young illegal immigrants who attend college a path to citizenship, but has suggested he might be open to allowing some who serve in the military some kind of residency and did not rule out keeping Obama’s recent executive order limiting deportations while he works on his own plan.
“Today, Mitt Romney told the largest national gathering of Hispanic elected officials: ‘When I make a promise to you – I will keep it,’” the Obama campaign’s director of Hispanic Press Gabriela Domenzain said in a statement. ”But in front of an audience of Republican primary voters, he called the DREAM Act a ‘handout’ and promised to veto it. Now, after seven days of refusing to say whether or not he’d repeal the Obama administration’s immigration action that prevents young people who were brought here through no fault of their own as children from being deported, we should take him at his word that he will veto the DREAM Act as president.”
… which is why we will never let Romney get anywhere near the White House, among a million other reasons I can think of, off the top of my head, too numerous to note here.
I’ll say this, it is a crying bloody shame that our President has to continually go on national teevee to get our help to pressure Congress to do their effing job. I’m to the point where I’m ready to see both Pelosi and Reid stage a great big democratic walkout and tell the repubs to kiss their asses. If we don’t vote these repubthugs out of office, we are a sorry lot.. we dems I mean- we do have the power to make this happen.
at this point I honestly believe the republicans will allow these interest rates to double merely to hurt all of us- they’ve done absolutely nothing that the majority of this country have asked them to do, why would they start now?
A million times over. If they just ALL walked out en masse and told them that until they decide they want to work for the people, not corporations that feed them money to keep the JOBS THEY REFUSE TO DO….then kiss my ass.I would cheer
Seriously df, I wonder would happen if they did just that. Finally the media would be forced to report on the facts of how the gop have obstructed every positive bill put up to help the country.
Totally agree…but it would have to be ALL of them…and as amk says…we have some spineless ones in there, that quite frankly, are just as bad as the Repubs.
I agree. It would cost the dems on some level to do such a thing.. but I wonder at this point if we should suggest to them it may well be worth the cost.. as we are fed up as a majority as to how Congress is being run these days. And the polls do tell us that the majority are not happy with Congress.
I think they have a 13% favorability rating. In other words, they suck . Dems walking wouldn’t show weakness to me, just determination to do something for the people…they could have a news conference before they walked and say why…and name every single RW obstruction since 2010…list them all off…then let everyone know that they want to get work done, but they are done dealing with these 2 year olds.
agree amk. I think protocol comes into play on something like this… the dems in Congress have always been all about the ‘rules’. Possibly its time we told them we are quite fine with them breaking the ‘rules’ to spotlight the republican destruction. If they don’t make a stand for our young college students on these interest rates.. then we really need to think about demanding they stand up.. because the republicans will never listen to us.
The White House is standing by Attorney General Eric Holder as the House prepares to vote on a resolution finding him in contempt of Congress next week for allegedly not complying with a subpoena seeking documents related to the botched ATF operation known as Fast and Furious.
“The president has full confidence in the attorney general,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Thursday. “We have been and will continue to engage in an effort to resolve this and await a demonstration of an interest to resolve this in a way that isn’t all about political theater.”
Separately, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) told reporters he thought Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) was grasping for a scalp because – despite declaring Obama “one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times” – he has failed to make any big waves as chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
“I believe it’s a show of frustration on behalf of chairman Issa – that he was going to come in and get all this oversight of the Obama administration,” Hoyer told reporters, according to TPM’s Brian Beutler.
Pelosi: GOP attacking Holder to suppress voters

WASHINGTON — A Republican-run House committee’s vote to hold the attorney general in contempt of Congress is part of GOP efforts to suppress votes in the upcoming elections, the top House Democrat said Thursday.
Mitt Romney said he would “replace” and “supercede” President Obama’s new mini-DREAM Act at the National Association Of Latino Elected Officials in Florida on Thursday.
“He did nothing to advance a permanent fix for our broken immigration system,” Romney said. ”The president has been seized by an overwhelming need to do what he could have done on day one, but didn’t.”
“I will put in place my own long-term order, that will replace and supersede the president’s temporary measure,” Romney added.

The President didn’t want to do it on Day One because he thought he was working with a Congress that actually wanted to solve problems, not just win elections. That’s why this is a temporary fix – to see if congress can live up to the expectations that they are actually there to serve the country and its people – not just line their own pockets and grandstand.

Ann Romney’s High Horse
Super Hit had Butorphanol, Delomidine, Romifidine, and Xylatine in its system at the time of his sale, according to court documents. Testified an expert: “In my 38 years of practice, I have never come across a drug screen such as this where the horse has been administered so many different medications at the same time.”
Ann Romney found herself briefly the subject of a lawsuit at whose core, according to court documents, was a heavily-medicated horse.
Romney and her trainers sold the horse, Super Hit, in 2008 for $125,000. And Super Hit had what a prominent veterinarian described as a staggering quantity of drugs in its system at the time of its examination before being sold, according to a toxicology report that’s part of the lawsuit over the horse’s condition.
The lawsuit, which was mentioned in a New York Times story last month, was filed in 2010 by a woman in San Diego who had bought Super Hit from Romney and her trainers, Jan and Amy Ebeling. The woman, Catherine Norris, sued Romney for fraud after the horse allegedly proved physically incapable of performing as a dressage horse.
The case with Romney was settled last September and she is no longer involved in the lawsuit.

On immigration, Mitt Romney dodges yet again
By Greg Sargent
The other day, Mitch McConnell said that Republicans were not going to take a position on Obama’s new anti-deportation policy until Mitt Romney signaled his own stance on it, which McConnell predicted would happen at today’s speech to Hispanic elected officials. “We’re going to wait and see what Governor Romney has to say,” McConnell said.
If McConnell is hoping for more clarity than Romney has offered so far, he’s going to have to keep waiting. During his speech today, Romney again declined to say directly what he would do about Obama’s policy.
Here’s the key bit, from the prepared remarks:
Last week, the President finally offered a temporary measure that he seems to think will be just enough to get him through the election. After three and a half years of putting every issue from loan guarantees for his donors to Cash For Clunkers before immigration, now the President has been seized by an overwhelming need to do what he could have done on Day One. I think you deserve better.
Some people have asked if I will let stand the President’s executive action. The answer is that I will put in place my own long-term solution that will replace and supersede the President’s temporary measure. As President, I won’t settle for a stop-gap measure. I will work with Republicans and Democrats to find a long-term solution.
……………………………
“He threw sand in the face of his audience, to try to make himself sound like an immigration reformer,” says Sharry, who has said positive things about Rubio’s DREAM alternative. “The best you can say about his speech is that he was saying, `I’m not the nativist I played in the primaries.’”
Good… the audience did not buy it. But someone needs to tell Sharry that Rubio NEVER had any legislation on paper….he was just giving them lip service the whole time.
I doubt it is real, although there are reports that he has told Scott to lay low on the improving economy in Florida talk. So this would represent the gist of the message.
Just read your post….very good, as usual. I must see if I can get the books you referenced at my local library in Pasadena. You would love this city, there seems to be a library on every block. When I moved here we voted that for more property taxes to fund the libraries. I was so proud of the citzens here when it passed. I was however, not pleased that they would not fund the local schools with a small increase in property taxes.

Love to visit Pasadena, but way too hot there in the summer. I like living by LAX where it’s cooler.
