Subject: RE: Volunteers for First Lady Memphis Event
Importance: High
Hey everyone – I wanted to do a quick summary on how folks can get involved with FLOTUS event in Memphis so that we minimize folks falling through cracks.
There are three ways people can participate in the First Lady Event in Memphis, for each category I’ve split it 50/50 with the State & Local Party and with OFA volunteers. The DNC, OFA HQ may have request they’ve included we’ve had to accommodate and those are outlined in the spreadsheet too… but hopefully everyone feels like this is really fair & transparent way to make sure we are as inclusive as possible of all the members of our big family. We are trying to take care of (OFA Volunteers, State Party volunteers, Local Party volunteers, Elected officials/allies, DNC, OFA HQ and other allies.) Just to manage expectations, I usually tell our volunteers that, ‘nothing is final until after it has already happened.’

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) went after the president on Friday for how he has handled immigration and Latino issues, while also saying he wouldn’t use his speech for the purpose.
“I was tempted to come here today and rip open the policies of the administration. … I was tempted to tell you, ‘They haven’t been here in three years — what a coincidence, it’s an election year,’” Rubio told Latinos at the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, receiving the loudest applause of any moment during the speech. “I was tempted to tell you, ‘Why didn’t he make this issue a priority?’”
“But that’s not the direction I want to go with my speech,” he continued.
And why did he vote against the Dream Act when it was being voted on in the Senate. He has to take responsibility for its failure. But its easier to blame the President.

"Your speaker yesterday" says he keeps his promises. "And he has promised to veto the DREAM Act." So "take him at his word."— David Corn (@DavidCornDC) June 22, 2012
President Obama was brilliant! Basically, he told people not to just take his (the President’s) word; rather, he challenged them to check out what Romney promised during the Republican primaries. Romney is on record, and on Camera, promising to veto the DREAM Act if he were elected President. He was relentless in attacking Rick Perry for allowing undocumented children of immigrants to attend schools without paying out of state tuition. The President made sure that neither Romney nor his mainstream media enablers can spin, or shake, their way out of this one.
no. they’re releasing decisions thursday (yesterday) and monday. SC decisions aren’t dumped like congressional or presidential decisions. There version of the dump is to wait till the last possible day, not 4pm on Friday, because they still have to see us on Monday.
I hope we here at TOD will pledge not to “cry” but to hit back , as hard as we can, if the Supreme Court decides to gives us another “Bush v. Gore,” or another “Citizens United.” Blatantly unjust and unfair U.S. Supreme Court decisions can be used to energize the people. In my humble opinion, I think the 1857 unpopular U.S. Supreme Court’s Dred Scott decision, which opened up the entire country for the expansion of slavery, energized and increased the support for the newly formed Republican party. The increase in the popularity of the Republican party, which vigorously opposed the expansion of slavery in the new territories, laid the foundation for the election of Abraham Lincoln. FDR had some of his early New Deal programs, in his first term, invalidated by the Supreme Court. Yet, the American people never abandoned him. He went on to win four terms as President of the U.S.
I don’t care what the media pundits will say in case the Court invalidates the ACA. All I am committed to is that I will have President Obama’s back, no matter what.
My feeling is that the reason they’re waiting until the last possible moment for the ACA descision is because it’s going to be 6-3 with Roberts and Scalia voting to uphold the enite thing. They’ll then get the hell out of town before the baggers can storm La Bastille, screaming their wrath and anger.
PBO PERSONALIZED his speech, wonderfully, masterfully, evocatively. Mentioned the long fight against equality, his own unlikelihood of being where he is, the probabilities of all – including his own children and nieces and nephews.
I didn’t see all these people with cameras eager to take the speaker’s picture yesterday!!
I loved it when the President said that your speaker yesterday (Mitt Romney ) said when he make a promise he will keep his word. Well Mitt Romney PROMISED he would VETO the DREAM ACT. So take him at his word.
I’m just sayin’—–an emotional, personal powerful speech. Loved loved loved pointing out Willlard’s promise to veto Dream Act—–and we should take him at his word—– then that facial expression that is priceless——and then I’m Just Sayin’. Bam Bam Boom! And wrapped it up with a podium slap for added emphasis!
too petty. He only needs to get his point across which is that Willard is a lying sack of cowpie and I believe PBO did exactly that by reminding the nice people in the audience of Willard’s plan to veto the Dream Act.

This speech is one of the best PBO has ever given. He spoke from the heart. It was an emotional and poignant speech.
It does need to be seen, to be watched. His inflection, his face, his demeanor … all were integrous.
That is one of PBO’s most inspiring characteristics — one we get and his audiences get — but his opponents and the corporate jackals don’t. His basic integrity. His words, his body, his facial expressions, the tenor of his words….. all match, all are integrous.
It is the opposite with Romney. We sense it even if we can’t “put our finger on it” and articulate it.

He was received extremely well but this wasn’t a campaign rally – it was an address to the organization – NALEO, so not anyone could attend.
His speech at the community college in Tampa (4:15PM) will be more of a stump speech, which is open to the general public so we can see how many people in attendance there!
For those who are watching the 2012 presidential race closely, Mitt Romney’s penchant for falsehoods is hard to miss. Michael Cohen summarized the issue nicely this week in a piece for The Guardian:
Granted, presidential candidates are no strangers to disingenuous or overstated claims; it’s pretty much endemic to the business. But Romney is doing something very different and far more pernicious. Quite simply, the United States has never been witness to a presidential candidate, in modern American history, who lies as frequently, as flagrantly and as brazenly as Mitt Romney.
Now, in general, those of us in the pundit class are really not supposed to accuse politicians of lying – they mislead, they embellish, they mischaracterize, etc. Indeed, there is natural tendency for nominally objective reporters, in particular, to stay away from loaded terms such as lying. Which is precisely why Romney’s repeated lies are so effective. In fact, lying is really the only appropriate word to use here, because, well, Romney lies a lot. But that’s a criticism you’re only likely to hear from partisans.
By ALEXANDER BURNS | 6/22/12 11:57 AM EDT
The Obama campaign labeled Mitt Romney Friday as an “outsourcer-in-chief,” brandishing a Washington Post story on Bain Capital’s involvement in outsourcing jobs and expanding foreign operations of U.S. companies.
“Nothing in Gov. Romney’s background suggests that he would be the advocate for American workers and American jobs that he portrays himself to be,” Axelrod, framing the election for voters like so: “Do they want an outsourcer-in-chief in the Oval Office, or do they want a president who’s going to fight … for the American middle class?”
Axelrod hosted the call with Democratic fundraiser Leo Hindery, managing partner of InterMedia. Both Axelrod and Hindery assailed Romney for what they called inconsistency in his stance toward China and trade more generally.
The Romney super PAC Restore Our Future, Hindery noted, received a massive donation from Sheldon Adelson, “the casino magnate whose fortune has been largely made and is still being made in Macau, China … There is a hypocrisy there that is befuddling.”
Axelrod added: “Befuddling indeed.”
The speed with which Democrats have raced to take advantage of the Post story is a reflection of how potent they still believe attacks on Romney’s business record to be, and also how thrilled they are about the opportunity to go back on offense after a very bad stretch.
Axelrod closed the call: “We believe this is a significant moment in this campaign. All of America has learned a little bit more about the business record that Gov. Romney is running on.”

The media should stop acting as if rubio had a plan. He never put anything in writing, though he had every opportunity to do so. Lots of politicians talk and talk about various issues. That’s meaningless chatter. I am sick of the media acting as if rubio had an actual plan.
Wow, Romney isn’t even waiting anymore to be called out on his flip-flops; he’s now preempting his flip-flops by flip-flopping on his original flip-flops.
Many Hispanics HAVE been frustrated by the lack of action on the Dream Act. Many do wish PBO had fought for it harder. There are various interests groups who feel this way about THEIR specific issues. Meanwhile, the president has had to content with multiple crises. He hasn’t been able to focus on them all, or prioritize them all at the time interests groups wish he would.
And, yet, look what he HAS accomplished. The Lily Ledbetter Act, the stimulus, ACA, killing Bin Laden, saving the auto industry, etc., etc. — along with ending DADT, supporting gay marriage, ceasing to deport young Hispanics, etc. He would have signed the Dream Act is the Senate could have passed it.
Ken Vogel of POLITICO says PBO is disingenuous for blaming Congress for not passing the Dream Act. He said PBO should have pushed it more. POLITICO is so in the bag for Willard anything they say should be dismissed.
What part of (we had the votes for the Dream Act in December 2010 but the Republicans in the senate filibustered the vote) does Ken Vogel not understand? What exactly was President Obama supposed to do from the executive branch about a bill that was the responsibility of congress to pass?
President Obama on the DREAM Act: “My Administration Will Not Give Up”
December 18, 2010
—————————————–
Following a disappointing vote in the Senate, President Obama released the following statement on the DREAM act:
In an incredibly disappointing vote today, a minority of Senators prevented the Senate from doing what most Americans understand is best for the country. As I said last week, when the House passed the DREAM Act, it is not only the right thing to do for talented young people who seek to serve a country they know as their own, it is the right thing for the United States of America. Our nation is enriched by their talents and would benefit from the success of their efforts. The DREAM Act is important to our economic competitiveness, military readiness, and law enforcement efforts. And as the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reported, the DREAM Act would cut the deficit by $2.2 billion over the next 10 years. There was simply no reason not to pass this important legislation.
It is disappointing that common sense did not prevail today. But my administration will not give up on the DREAM Act, or on the important business of fixing our broken immigration system. The American people deserve a serious debate on immigration, and it’s time to take the polarizing rhetoric off our national stage.
I thank Senators Durbin, Reid, and Menendez for their tireless efforts. Moving forward, my administration will continue to do everything we can to fix our nation’s broken immigration system so that we can provide lasting and dedicated resources for our border security while at the same time restoring responsibility and accountability to the system at every level.
Uh! It just makes me so mad. We have many serious problems which we’ve put off for years. As someone said earlier there are many things to tackle, give your attention to and push for. You cannot push for them all at the same time or even equally. I know my president came into office trying to pass comprehensive immigration reform with the help of McCain and others. I did not happen, we got enough votes to pass the bill but were stopped by the republican fillibuster! Those are the facts. People who were for it, are now against it.
If all that Rubio could deliver was exactly as the president did- ability to stay and work here with no path to citizenship then it is not enough to pass a bill on that. I swear all these dissatisfied-why hasn’t he constantly promoted and pushed for gun control laws ( maybe should be renamed gun ownership responsibility laws), single payer, immigration reform, a compehensive energy bill, closed GITMO …etc. He has promoted and pushed for all of them, just not exclusively ignoring all of the other many issues needing resolution or the many sucesses he and his administration have accomplished.
What’s happening on the world stage is a whole other matter. I just hope we all realize at some point no matter what all this president resolves in this and the next 4 years, there will be plenty still needing to be done. As someone dreamed for yesterday- we need 40 more years of democratic majority in the executive and legislative branches of government. Press On!
I think we should all stop clicking on anything that Politico writes. If they drop their numbers, they will get a message from us. This, other than our vote, is our power. We have become a powerful force in twitterville, here at TOD, so let’s use that power.
I haven’t clicked on anything Politico related since around the time Ben Smith left. Not because of Smith, but just because I realized Politico was shilling and just a front for the GOP and now Romney.
Why not.

no. they’re releasing decisions thursday (yesterday) and monday. SC decisions aren’t dumped like congressional or presidential decisions. There version of the dump is to wait till the last possible day, not 4pm on Friday, because they still have to see us on Monday.
I thought I heard they only announce decisions on Monday-Thursday.
I agree, a wonderful speech.
Very nice Person, my President. Can’t you tell?
Jovie, your Pres is the tops!
Jovie, I really love your President!
Your President is simply the best!
Yep, that’s the same thing I said, Romney.
And wrapped it up with a podium slap for added emphasis!
missed the facial expression. But i’m pretty sure it was hilarious given the crowd’s response.
I wondered why PBO didn’t mention the self-deport part too!
too petty. He only needs to get his point across which is that Willard is a lying sack of cowpie and I believe PBO did exactly that by reminding the nice people in the audience of Willard’s plan to veto the Dream Act.
Chips if you don’t mind we the a headin that starts with ” Just Saying” just love our President MSM is besides themselves they don’t know hw to explian how this President makes people to gravitate to him even foriegn head of states and it drives them so mad. ” just Saying “
Love, love, love seeing all those people trying to get pictures with their cameras and smart phones — some even with their iPads!! That speaks volumes (that won’t be articulated by the MSM).
WTF?????????????? BRIBERY?????????????????????????

Thanks, LL:) This is huge…or it better be!
So far I’ve gotten a lot of retweets.
Awesome…this needs to be known. The guy’s a low life criminal as far as I’m concerned….he needs to be removed from his Chairmanship
Now this:
COWARD!!

Finally, an honest answer. Romney campaign co-chair says Romney would rescind the President’s action on the Dream Act. http://t.co/9wCRqjj9
WE HAD THE VOTES FOR THE DREAM ACT IN DECEMBER 2010, BUT THE REPUBLICANS FILIBUSTERED
Now they are shocked and dismayed because President Obama acted when they would not. Cry me a river.
This speech is one of the best PBO has ever given. He spoke from the heart. It was an emotional and poignant speech.
I can’t wait to watch it. Just these words on the screen are powerful. He’s without peer.
It inspires us. It frightens and enrages his enemies.
well said pickle.. we know the real deal when its in front of us- President Barack Obama… and we know fake and false as in Mitt Romney.
Ms. Lynn was swiftly put in her place by a wise Latina.
“Ms. Lynn was swiftly put in her place by a wise Latina.”
————- ya damned skippy!!!
Maybe everybody seem emotional compare to that stiff boring lying ass Mitt Romney.
I love My President. Period.
THIS!

I can’t have this guy kicking my ass during the debates; I’m running for President for pete’s sake.
read this story and try not to laugh the description of Politico given.
POLITICO suspends reporter
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/06/politico-suspends-reporter-mitt-romney.php?ref=fpnewsfeed
I’m, ah….speechless. Politco tries not to have a bias. Please! I guess this reporter should have found a way to say the same thing without saying white huh? Wow! Honesty will get you suspended.
I found him relaxed and comfortable. Pretty much how you act when you are among friends.
Pretty much how you are when you are telling the truth………………………..
Very much OT, but this is a link to an article which itself links to other analyses of the ACA and consequences of different scenarios. I love how the author of this article slammed some who called single payer a 100% failure. http://www.joepaduda.com/archives/002358.html
POTUS headed to a fundraiser. Open press so we should have a decent livestream.
UT, these are fabulous tweets. Have retweeted them all. Couldn’t watch his speech as was at a doctor’s appt. I got a real sense of the speech, though, from your fab. tweets. I can’t wait til Chips has time to post the speech, so I can hear it for myself. Thanks!
This is going to leave a mark

I can’t have this guy telling voters to take me at my word; I’m running for President for pete’s sake.
Hee haw! NCLR is the National Council of La Raza, largest national Latino civil rights org in U.S.:
how many people today? how was he received?
He was received extremely well but this wasn’t a campaign rally – it was an address to the organization – NALEO, so not anyone could attend.
His speech at the community college in Tampa (4:15PM) will be more of a stump speech, which is open to the general public so we can see how many people in attendance there!
The Gym there can hold almost 3k!
And it will be filled to capacity most likely.
No, there will be 3 empty spaces, therefore proving once again that the enthusiasm from 2008 is no longer there.
HA! I’m waiting for Chuck Todd, Tapper and Knoller to spend the entire hour counting those three empty slots.
MSNBC was just showing the arrivals at Mitt’s donor party… she said 700 would be there…….but I turned it off when she said the President is
” whining ” about the disparity in donations.
Bashir in 15 minutes. THEN, I turn MSNBC on……..!! (And then off again when I see Ratigan.)
LOL . . . me too!
Very few of the staff at the resort will be voting for Willard. Willard’s guests should have food tasters.
“…I’m just saying.” Best. Line. EVER!
I sure do like his style. I’m just sayin….
AWESOMENESS!
HOT OFF THE PRESS: MITT’S MENDACITY “VOLUME 23″
Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol. XXIII
By Steve Benen
—————————————–

Romney is running on.”
i love Axelrod – “befuddling indeed’ – he’s very droll.
I liked PBO calling Willard “your speaker from yesterday” and not by his name.
That was priceless.
I know..we know he’s refering to the zombie barber from hell.
The media should stop acting as if rubio had a plan. He never put anything in writing, though he had every opportunity to do so. Lots of politicians talk and talk about various issues. That’s meaningless chatter. I am sick of the media acting as if rubio had an actual plan.
Amen to this! Whiner. “Well I would have done one” “I was thinking about it” WTHE
This is spreading like wild fire on twitter. Hahaha. Romney has been busted again. Haha.
Wow, Romney isn’t even waiting anymore to be called out on his flip-flops; he’s now preempting his flip-flops by flip-flopping on his original flip-flops.
Ha!
Ken Vogel is an ass.
So is Chris Hayes…
” Activists are frustrated with the President ” ?
Yawn…..he must be talking about his BFF Glenn Greenwald
THIS!!!
Ain’t it the truth

Ken Vogel..belongs to .GOPolitico
Press On!
Geez. I’m sick of Politico. They are in deep with Romney.
