I loved that he said this, and the way he said it. That speech was really touching. Hispanic people care about more than just immigration; they care about jobs, the economy, their health, their children’s prospects, security, etc. And they also care about immigration – as should everyone. And fairness. That was the essence of his speech – and the fact that people shouldn’t be hoodwinked with Romney’s false promises. Go with the ones that he has repeated the most in front of his rabid crowd – he’ll veto the Dream Act. He’ll make life miserable for immigrants to force them to leave. He’ll deprive children of good education, health and opportunities. He’ll inscribe discrimination directly into the Constitution. He’ll forego transparency. He’ll send kids into pointless wars, and hide the profits from those wars in his foreign bank accounts.
“The reason that this contempt motion happened is that Issa didn’t come up with any evidence and didn’t get a scalp,” says Matthew Miller, a close associate of Holder’s and his former communications director. “When you set expectations that high and you don’t deliver, you have to explain why.”
DARRELL ISSA: WITCH HUNTS MORE IMPORTANT THAN JOB CREATION
Darrell Issa plans hundreds of hearings
November 8, 2010
—————————-
California Rep. Darrell Issa is already eyeing a massive expansion of oversight for next year, including hundreds of hearings; creating new subcommittees; and launching fresh investigations into the bank bailout, the stimulus and, potentially, health care reform.
Issa told POLITICO in an interview that he wants each of his seven subcommittees to hold “one or two hearings each week.”
I want seven hearings a week, times 40 weeks,” Issa said.
Issa is also targeting some ambitious up-and-comers like Reps. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, Patrick McHenry of North Carolina and Jim Jordan of Ohio — all aggressive partisans — to chair some of his subcommittees.
He also wants to organize aggressive oversight beyond his committee and plans to refer inquiries to other House panels, drawing even more incoming GOP chairmen to the cause of investigating the executive branch.
Ken Vogel of POLITICO said PBO was disingenuous blaming the failure of the Dream Act on Congress. He said PBO should have pushed more. POLITICO should br treated as a Republican mouthpiece.
So the media is already trashing POTUS’ speech.. they really can’t handle his success can they. On MSN front page, one of the headlines is “How Obama Has Failed Latinos” courtesy of First Read. I don’t click on that junk ever.
Chucky’s commercial for msnbc says that politics is like a sport! Which may have been out for while but I just really “heard” it a couple of days ago. I was so angered by that discription because it is how “they” treat it. Like a game… so now CT tries to “even” the score with lies and revisionist history about the Dream Act.
That same article this morning was headlined “Obama may have own trouble with Immigration” or something like that. I saw this second headline and just SMH.
Bringing this over from last thread just in case Symmetry didn’t see it. It’s concerning FLOTUS speaking in Memphis.
Symmetry, I live in Memphis!! I didn’t receive an email. Do you already have to be apart of OFA. I donate, but am not apart of an OFA group in Memphis.(I know, I’m working on recitfying that) If you could please send me the email, so that I can get a ticket or volunteer. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!!! I will definitely take off that day!!! I’m on twitter and I think I could try to DM you, if you’re willing to send me the email.
I have something that I want to send you. I can’t post it here as we have been asked not to post on l=blogs. Would you mind sharing your email address?

Ken Vogel is an ass. Said it was PBO’s fault that Dream Act didn’t pass and he should stop blaming the GOP. That it’s disingenuous. Man oh man he got massive pushback on twitter and Karen Finney who was on the panel on Bashir Live ripped Ken Vogel a new one. She tore into him! Hahahahahahahaha…..He went silent.
Ken Vogel is an idiot ass-hat extraordinaire. The last vote on the Dream Act was 55 in favor. A republican filibuster killed it. Is Ken Vogel saying that if PBO “crawled on his belly and smoked a cigar”, the repubs would have dropped their obstructionism? This is getting beyond rational, even sanity.
President Obama on the DREAM Act: “My Administration Will Not Give Up”
December 18, 2010
—————————————–
Following a disappointing vote in the Senate, President Obama released the following statement on the DREAM act:
In an incredibly disappointing vote today, a minority of Senators prevented the Senate from doing what most Americans understand is best for the country. As I said last week, when the House passed the DREAM Act, it is not only the right thing to do for talented young people who seek to serve a country they know as their own, it is the right thing for the United States of America. Our nation is enriched by their talents and would benefit from the success of their efforts. The DREAM Act is important to our economic competitiveness, military readiness, and law enforcement efforts. And as the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reported, the DREAM Act would cut the deficit by $2.2 billion over the next 10 years. There was simply no reason not to pass this important legislation.
It is disappointing that common sense did not prevail today. But my administration will not give up on the DREAM Act, or on the important business of fixing our broken immigration system. The American people deserve a serious debate on immigration, and it’s time to take the polarizing rhetoric off our national stage.
I thank Senators Durbin, Reid, and Menendez for their tireless efforts. Moving forward, my administration will continue to do everything we can to fix our nation’s broken immigration system so that we can provide lasting and dedicated resources for our border security while at the same time restoring responsibility and accountability to the system at every level.
The opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics were still months away, but already Mitt Romney was thinking about the legacy they would leave behind.
On a crisp Saturday afternoon in November, the Salt Lake Organizing Committee president and CEO stood in the middle of the newly constructed Gateway Mall, flanked by the Davis High School marching band and a dancing water fountain designed in the shape of the Salt Lake Winter Games’ snowflake logo. Nearby, a cascading stream of water trickled between two sets of concrete stairs.
The Olympic Legacy Plaza, Romney told a crowd of about 300 people, would stand as “a tangible memory” of this Olympics.
As part of that memory, the names of 28,000 Olympic workers and volunteers would be inscribed on the plaza’s west wall.
But under Romney’s orders, two names would be left out. The banishment of Tom Welch and Dave Johnson, the two men most responsible for bringing the Olympics to Salt Lake City, was, as it turns out, a rather ironic attempt to sanitize history. Because in the decade that followed, no one has done more to remind the world of the questionable ethical origins of the 2002 Olympics than Romney. Never mind that the scandal itself had little to do with Salt Lake City, never threatened the viability of the Games and was, in historical context, an Olympic-sized trifle.

Below are several of the frequent Republican attacks, arguments, and misinformation that need correction, context, and accuracy:
1) We want a “long-term solution” for DREAMers, they say. But Republicans blocked the DREAM Act in Congress and Romney has promised to veto it should it pass. In yes
2) President Obama and the Democrats promised to enact immigration reform but never tried to move it, they say. The record is clear: Democrats and Obama tried and Republicans obstructed.
3) Let’s secure the border first, and then we can move onto broader comprehensive reform, they say. But even with the border being more secure than ever and illegal immigration across it at net zero, the GOP keeps denying it.
Hot diggity! Just sayin………..:)
