I’m reposting this because as usual I posted it just about Chips …..

Hey Lisa….I saw it a few times on Twitter that at least 35 Democrats will vote with the Republicans against AG Holder.

The only thing I could find was this

”Yesterday, Utah Democrat Jim Matheson said he will vote to hold Holder in contempt due to his refusal to comply with the Congressional investigation into the scandal and continued stonewalling. Issa has said he believes at least 31 Democrats will vote with Republicans for contempt.”

    So it’s not confirmed.

    I don’t think so anyway…..better not

    Agree with you, mom!

We know folk read this blog … lots of folk :)

We know the power of Twitter … to say the least.

Had suggested the following to Jim Messina, David Axelrod, et al., once before, and am repeating it now, somewhat modified:

It’ll be tweeted to all the usual suspects and it would be great if all of you not only RT’d but sent your own call to join the #Tweeps4OBAMA brigade. Billionaires, #NEWSTAINERS & #KOCHSTERS are no match against millions of us!!!

If you don’t Tweet yet (sign up!!!!), but if you don’t have time and have suggestions of folk that should receive a request to join the #Tweeps4Obama movement, please just list their Twitter account names and I’ll tweet them for you.

These #NEWSTAINERS, #KOCHSTERS, @MittRomney, etc., will have never experienced literally millions of folk hammering them, publicly, 24/7 and even if they discard their Twitter accounts they cannot discard the fact that the entire twitterverse will see our determination to hold them accountable.

Twitter is the most powerful, non-violent, massive networking and communications tool, ever, and it’s time we emulate all those elsewhere striving for their Freedom and realize in 2012 we are striving to preserve OURS. #AmericaThisIsNotATest

They can’t spin the outsourcing issue so they would just like to reset to zero and pretend the Washington Post article was never written. Meanwhile, requesting a retraction is a great way to bring more attention to the issue of outsourcing. Hopefully, it will encourage more and more media outlets to do in-depth stories about outsourcing. This aspect of Bain is easy to understand. The American people get it.

    Evasive Maneuvers

Mitt Romney doesn’t want to say anything, specifically.

    By John Dickerson

    ————————————————–

Mitt Romney has a problem with specifics. Since Scott Walker’s victory in Wisconsin, a growing number of Republicans have been calling for something more from him. His recent responses on questions from tax reform to immigration have been thin or nonexistent. When reporters tried to get an answer about the candidate’s reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s immigration law, his spokesperson was so evasive, my colleagues might want to plant a mulberry bush in the press section to make the next round of the game more lively. Usually you have to win the White House before you can be that skilled at ducking and weaving.

But wait. A Romney campaign aide told Politico’s Jonathan Martin, when he wrote about this topic, that they have offered an “unprecedented” level of specificity. How can these two things both be true?

    —————————————–

Justice Antonin Scalia needs to resign from the Supreme Court.

    E.J. Dionne Jr.

He’d have a lot of things to do. He’s a fine public speaker and teacher. He’d be a heck of a columnist and blogger. But he really seems to aspire to being a politician — and that’s the problem.

So often, Scalia has chosen to ignore the obligation of a Supreme Court justice to be, and appear to be, impartial. He’s turned “judicial restraint” into an oxymoronic phrase. But what he did this week, when the court announced its decision on the Arizona immigration law, should be the end of the line.

Not content with issuing a fiery written dissent, Scalia offered a bench statement questioning President Obama’s decision to allow some immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children to stay. Obama’s move had nothing to do with the case in question. Scalia just wanted you to know where he stood.

The majority of Americans, nearly 65 percent, say Obama is better suited than Romney to handle an alien invasion, according to a new National Geographic Channel poll, USA Today reports.

The survey, conducted to promote “Chasing UFOs,” a TV series premiering Friday, also found that almost eight in 10 people, 79 percent, believe the government has kept information about UFOs a secret from the public. In addition, 55 percent believe agents similar to those played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in the film “Men in Black” — their mission is to hide information about extraterrestrial beings — actually exist.

This is very important, because somewhere out there, they exist! LOL!

Jovie–The invasion of aliens hit in 2010 when alien entities filled up the US House. The president has done remarkably well handling these strange beings who put their egos, ideology and loyalty to lunatics like Norquist above their country. Somewhere on a distant planet the real US House resides, a place with patriots who care about their country and the people in it. Please let the aliens return to their planet in November.

A Old Dominion University/Virginian-Pilot poll in Virginia finds President Obama leading Mitt Romney in the crucial battleground state, 49% to 42%.

    {Snippet}

More Virginia voters prefer President Barack Obama than Republican candidate Mitt Romney, but many consider themselves more conservative on economic issues than the president, according to a statewide poll by Old Dominion University and The Virginian-Pilot.

When asked whom they would vote for on Nov. 6, 49 percent of those surveyed said Obama, 42 percent chose Romney, 5 percent said they wouldn’t vote for either and 3 percent were undecided or wouldn’t say.

I wonder if those Virginia voters could identify what the conservative stance is on economic issues these days. They ran up the deficit, have spent taxpayer dollars chasing phony conspiracies or hate agendas (“investigating” Fast & Furious, defending DOMA against the WH wishes, fighting ObamaCare up to the Supreme Court, writing bills that have nothing to do wtih helping the country out of it’s most urgent problems: jobs, housing, the economy, increasing trade, caring for the troops, investing in the future, rebuilding the infrastructure and expanding new industries). What exactly is the “conservative stance” on economic issues? Because unlike the so-called Conservatives, President Obama has been busy extending tax cuts for small businesses that actually generate jobs, improving education and Pell Grants to help ensure a future educated workforce, cutting out wasteful middle men, passing health insurance reform that will spend less on putting bonuses in the hands of billionaire insurance executives and actually work to reduce health care costs and care for patients, reduced payroll taxes, encouraged growth and private investment – including helping small businesses make inroads in foreign countries.

What exactly are the “conservative” actions that these voters have seen on economic issues from the GOP?

THE NEXT SHOE TO DROP: BAIN AND CORPORATE WELFARE

Romney’s ‘Crony Capitalism': Bain’s Big Government Subsidies

Ari Berman on January 13, 2012

    ——————————————–

But a closer look at Bain’s record under Romney reveals that the company relied on the very government subsidies that Romney and Tea Party conservatives routinely denounce as “crony capitalism.” The Los Angeles Times ran a big story yesterday about Bain’s investment in Steel Dynamics, which received $37 million in subsidies and grants to build a new plant in DeKalb County, Indiana. An analyst at the Cato Institute called it “corporate welfare.”
    .
    .
There are likely other examples of Bain profiting from these type of subsidies, along with a host of unanswered questions. How much did Bain-owned companies receive in total government subsidies? Did Bain take public money and then lay off workers? Did Romney seek these subsidies out?

Romney will no doubt try to channel Reagan in the coming campaign, echoing, in one form or another, the Gipper’s famous refrain that “government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem.” Romney, based on his own compromised history, will have a tougher time making that argument.

Mitt Romney is Exactly What’s Wrong with the American Economy

    LOLGOP on April 13, 2012

    —————————–

I like to say that Mitt Romney made his millions betting against American workers. It isn’t the greatest Romney-attack line ever. (That belongs to Ted Kennedy who said, “He isn’t pro-choice or anti-choice. He’s multiple choice.”) But it makes a point you can’t hear enough.

Romney had a record of devaluing American workers and work. He offshored and outsourced jobs. Even as he was running for President of the United States, he did not instruct his blind trust to only invest in the United States. He still opposes saving the auto industry because it didn’t punish workers enough. Worst of all, Mitt wants to make all of the Bush tax breaks for the richest permanent.

By LOLGOP on June 27, 2012

    ——————————————–

Mitt doesn’t know how to create jobs; he knows how to rig the system so the rich always win no matter how many workers get hurt.

The campaign spent millions making this case in swing states—like Ohio and Pennsylvania—that have seen the damage out-sourcers and off shorers like Bain have done and the manufacturing resurgence under President Obama. And it’s working.

The President is up in swing states and Bain Capital is nearly as unpopular as Solyndra, which the GOP has spent years trying to hype into a scandal. The difference is one is a hyped-up misstep and the other was supposed to be Mitt’s entire argument for becoming President.

I happen to have enjoyed the few episodes I was able to catch. We are not the demographic for this show. I can see how a younger crowd may be more inclined to like it. It has a youthful feel to it and it’s not heavy handedly dripping of politics. SE and Krystal balance each other with Krystal being the more forceful of the two. Steve and Toure don’t strike me as rabid political wonks as much as the two ladies are. Either way, gonna give it a little more time for them to settle in. We might want to rethink our expectation of this show. They’re just not that into us old political wonks who are more detailed and analytical in our thinking. These youngsters are talking to the instant feedback, twitter 140 character, FB, high-tech, gimme the short version, hit it and quit it group who helped elect PBO. While Colorado goes up in flames, and the Republican wing of the Supreme Court writes the dismantling of Obamacare, the men and women hired by the federal government to fight wildfire are risking life and limb. Many of them are doing it without health insurance.

Of all the jobs where you might want health insurance, firefighting near certainly ranks near the top of the list. Firefighters spend two-week shifts working 18 hour days in dangerous conditions. Some develop breathing problems due to smoke inhalation.

But many federal firefighters are temporary employees, who only work six months out of the year. […] Under federal regulations, temporary employees of the Forest Service do not receive benefits. That means no health care and no retirement pension.

“A lot of them are not making a lot,” says Bill Dougan, president of the National Federal of Federal Employees. “The only way they can afford insurance is if they have a spouse that might be able to get coverage under an employer. In some places that’s not an option.”

This is the status quo Republicans have been fighting for for the past two years. If the Affordable Care Act survives the Supreme Court Republican five tomorrow, it could help. Many of the firefighters make little enough to qualify for the subsidies to purchase insurance, making the premiums in reach. They’d also be guaranteed access to affordable health insurance, something that can be a problem for people in high-risk jobs.

If the Supreme Court five make the ACA go away tomorrow, nothing changes for these wildfire fighters in the immediate term, but they’ll be denied those near-future benefits and the hope that they could continue to do this critical job and protect themselves a little bit. Their hopes go up in smoke, and Republicans will cheer.

I would say the first thing about twitter is just getting used to expressing an idea in 140 characters or less, learning how to truncate sentences and shorten words so your message comes across. Then just keep your eyes open and follow people who resonate with you. RT things that strike you as important, interesting, fun.

Be sure to follow PBO’s admin and campaign staff.

Didn’t I read somewhere that FLOTUS had won? Maybe I’m mistaking this for something else…But anyway LOL – something tells me that losing a Family Circle bake-off doesn’t quite sting as losing an important presidential election!

        • June 27, 2012 at 4:51 pm

Check the demographics of this publication and any others who hold these kind of online voting contests. You’ll see why either one or the other win. The publication already knows this. It uses these contests to generate a buzz about their publication, not about the subject of the contest (recipes). It gets hits on their site which is used to convince advertisers of their viewership and justifies the advertising rates. I’m an admitted skeptic. Just the fact that they would pit FLOTUS against wanna be hopefuls tells me a lot about the publication. I don’t recall any online contest for any other FLOTUS by a mainstream publication. I see this as a division enhancing exercise.

          • June 27, 2012 at 5:22 pm

Cookemom now that you mention it, I whole-heartedly agree. It’s in poor taste, and not borne out of good intentions. As far as I’m concerned FLOTUS has already far surpassed Ms. Ann’s positives in every way, shape or form, and no contest will EVER bring parity between the two.

          • June 27, 2012 at 5:32 pm

It’s Family Circle, and Michelle Obama won in 2008. In fact it said every winner save one since 1992 has gone on to be first…lady in the WH. The one who won the contest, but did not continue to the WH was Bill Clinton in 2008!

AP sources: Tentative deal on student loans, roads
By ALAN FRAM and JOAN LOWY, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional leaders have reached tentative deals that would prevent a doubling of student loan interest rates and revamp the nation’s transportation programs, congressional officials said Wednesday. If completed, the compromises would resolve two vexing issues on which lawmakers face weekend deadlines for action.

House and Senate leaders have tentatively agreed to a one-year extension of today’s 3.4 percent interest rates for subsidized Stafford loans, said a congressional Republican who spoke on condition of anonymity to reveal the issue’s status. The measure — which would affect 7.4 million students projected to get new loans starting July 1 — is the same package that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Tuesday they had crafted between themselves.

At the same time, congressional leaders have tentatively agreed on a two-year bill to overhaul federal highway programs, Senate aides said. The government’s authority to spend money on highways, bridges and transit systems expires Saturday, as does its ability to levy gasoline and diesel taxes. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal wasn’t final.

Given America’s short attention span, you just hope it dies a quick death. By bring attention to it, folks get curious and may check the story out. You po the new agency that you accuse of poor reporting (yeah that will make them nice to you), who will then either retract, but find another story to get you on, or they stand firm which gives the original story more legs. Sheesh, I could run that campaign for a fraction of the cost. Of course, I’d sabotage myself, but they’re too dumb to even realize until PBO is re-elected.

I think the fact they won’t retract is just as or more important than the original story. The Romney campaign had said that WAPO didn’t have its facts straight, etc., which allowed some to doubt it. Now they have had a meeting where they had the opportunity to correct any mistakes in the story but weren’t really abel to do so. I am sure that the Romney campaign will cry about the liberal media, but the WAPO wouldn’t stand firm unless they knew they were on solid ground with the story. This gives the story more validity.

Dubuque, Iowa (CNN) – Less than 24 hours before the U.S. Supreme Court hands down its most closely watched decision in years, Vice President Joe Biden offered a grim projection of Mitt Romney’s choices to fill vacancies on the bench.

“Close your eyes and picture what the Supreme Court would look like four years from now under Romney,” Biden said to groans from a crowd of supporters at a rally in Dubuque. “Tell me what you think would happen to women’s rights in this country, civil rights.”

Four members of the Supreme Court are in their seventies – Stephen Breyer is 73, Anthony Kennedy is 75, Antonin Scalia is 76 and Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 79. Plans for Supreme Court resignations, however, are closely guarded and rarely revealed ahead of presidential elections.

      Spread this!!

The video follows the album’s bilingual cinema-in-sound concept about the border, the USA and the system that criminalizes those who create the wealth it rests upon.

While bringing to the fore the lived experience and stories of immigrant people, with this release the band ridicules the absurdity and obsolescence of the very notion of human beings deemed “illegal” in the year 2012: “See that border ain’t sacred or chosen, the land we stand on, every inch of it stolen, how obscene that there’s people ‘illegal’, vilified survival, the journey is lethal,” declares lead singer Miles Solay.

The message of Outernational comes behind the backdrop of President Obama’s “administrative relief” for young undocumented Americans as well as the Supreme Court’s upholding of “Papers Please” racial profiling in Arizona.

It is against the backdrop of heightened drama around issues of immigration, race, and class that Cuéntame would like to make it clear that we stand alongside and in solidarity with undocumented peoples inter Outerationally and say, “Todos Somos Ilegales/We Are All Illegals.”

      ###

Statement from lead singer Miles Solay:

Many people are once again talking about the anti-immigrant laws in Arizona and other states and the dehumanization of immigrants. As we see it, there is no so-called ‘immigration problem’ but there is a capitalism problem. Together with Rene Perez Joglar, Tom Morello, Chad Smith, Thom Russo, Chad Smith and many others, we hope to spread the ‘We Are All Illegals’ music video to all corners of the US, as well as throughout Latin America with the purpose of sending a clear message that the very notion of any human being deemed illegal is obscene, absurd, and obsolete. We are also making it abundantly clear that there is a growing force of people who refuse to sit idly in the face of ominous laws. One day it will seem as ridiculous for a human being to be deemed “illegal” by a government as it now seems for one person to own another person. Just as many different kinds of people need to fight back and get justice for Trayvon Martin, many different kinds of people need to stand together with our immigrant brothers and sisters. Until that day in a future society, we hereby declare, “WE ARE ALL ILLEGALS.”

Issa: No Evidence Or Strong Suspicions Holder Knew Of Gunwalking

Rep. Darrell Issa said Wednesday that he neither had evidence nor a strong suspicion that President Barack Obama or Attorney General Eric Holder had knowledge of the “gunwalking” tactics used during Fast and Furious.

Then the country needs to know that this is pure politics with no standing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At a campaign event in Sterling, Va., this afternoon, Mitt Romney said the White House will have trouble sleeping given the impending Supreme Court decision on President Obama’s health care reform law tomorrow morning.

“My guess is they’re not sleeping real well at the White House tonight,” Romney said. “That’s the way it oughta be!”

“There are going to be a lot of sleepless nights at the White House over the next few months, because the president is in a tight spot when it comes to the economy,” Romney said.

    hahhhaa what a dork !

      June 27, 2012 at 6:35 pm

As usual, I think it’s probably Romney and the Republicans who will have trouble sleeping. One thing I’ve noticed about the Republican followers of the Karl Rove brand of politics is their preoccupation with projecting their own behavior to their opponents. Somebody should tell Mitt Romney that Supreme Court justices are not infallible. Majorities on past Supreme Courts gave us: the infamous “Dred Scott” decision of 1857; the “Plessy v. Ferguson” decision of 1896; the “Bush v. Gore” of 2000, and the abominable “Citizens United.”

I think somebody posted here a newspaper article which said that the majority of people hate the ACA but they love most of all the provisions of the Act. President Obama can still campaign to restore all the popular provisions of the ACA. Mitt still has to come up with proposals about what do about health care. Saying that it’s all up to each individual state will not, in my judgement, win him many votes.

Thanks Robin for posting about the movie “The Obama Effect”.

Here is a brief synopsis of the movie:

In the beginning of the 21st century, no one ever thought that an African-American would become the first President of the United States. But it happened, and an entire country celebrated the exceptional efforts pulled off by citizens ready for sweeping change. But this change didn’t come without effort. It required a unification of all people from all races and nationalities, which is what “The Obama Effect” is about.

This film centers around a middle-aged man (Charles S. Dutton) who is faced with some difficult life questions after having a heart attack. Attempting to get back on track with his life, he takes on the Obama campaign with full force in an effort to fight for something he believes in. In the end, he not only learns that putting effort into something can yield unexpected results, but that fighting for something you believe in, including yourself, is what life is all about.

      • June 27, 2012 at 6:26 pm

OK, this was sooooo interesting. It makes sense now! The “fast and furious” program was to observe suspected illegal gun buys. By the laws as written they could not arrest! It’s true by this author’s understanding the only one to actually participate with the buying is this “whistle blower”.
That field office was logging all guns used or captured. The NRA knows our laws are crap, and they fear the full report of these guns and their uses, the shoddiness of our laws would be exposed. The Obama admin worked hard really early on with Mexico, acknowledging that guns go south of the border way to much.

Yeh, let them vote contempt and let’s really expose all that went on , both under the Bush AG and Eric Holder. This is just going to expose and shed more light on this issue and not less. I can’t wait for the article.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE FAST AND FURIOUS SCANDAL

It was replete with distortions, errors, partial truths, and even some outright lies.

The reporter that wrote the article just blew the lid off of Darrell Issa’s witch hunt right on the tv with Rev Al. This reporter did what Issa’s committee was supposed to be doing. A six month investigation that uncovered the truth about Fast & Furious. And Rev Al just had a spirited interview with John Mica where he challenged him on the validity of the contempt charges. This witch hunt is unraveling big time just one day before the farcical contempt vote. Real journalism is spouting up all over the place and it is a thing of beauty.

The truth about the Fast and Furious scandal

        —————————

Indeed, a six-month Fortune investigation reveals that the public case alleging that Voth and his colleagues walked guns is replete with distortions, errors, partial truths, and even some outright lies. Fortune reviewed more than 2,000 pages of confidential ATF documents and interviewed 39 people, including seven law-enforcement agents with direct knowledge of the case. Several, including Voth, are speaking out for the first time.
