This is true courage. I am sure dead beat dad Walsh dreams about this type of courage. I will be watching the returns on election night to make sure I don’t miss this piece of scum being voted out of office. He is the lowest of the low.

Courageous woman. Joe Walsh is a coward for saying the ugly things he said about Tammy.

    • July 3, 2012 at 7:48 pm

The nerve of that SOB Walsh. This lady is a true American hero. I hope she wins by a landslide. I wish I could vote for her.

First of all, if a man was raised right, he would be told to respect women, never pick on a woman. It is so clear that Joe Walsh is a DEADBEAT LOW LIFE DAD, and that isn’t bad enough he’s a sorry bastard who ought to be kick out of Congress. Where is Speaker Boehner speaking up for the veteran who lost two legs while serving her country. I guess the coward Boehner is doing what he always do, NOTHING.

Boehner is the worst Speaker ever. He is not a leader by any stretch of the imagination and I’m certain he will not say one word about this. If Walsh was a Democrat and Nancy Pelosi still Speaker, this kind of thing would NOT go unnoticed – or unpunished. I really hope we retake the House so we can have her as Speaker again; she is a strong, intelligent and compassionate woman and she is a first rate leader. She could teach Boehner a few lessons on leadership.

Anniebella, I am a man and I agree with you 100%! I am writing my Representative asking her to introduce a censure resolution against Joe Welsh. He is a disgrace to America and to the Congress of the United States.

All the more reason we need her in Congress. She is the epitome of what true patriotism is. Joe Walsh is toxic to this country and should in no way be part of legislating. Boot him out!

I email TeaNN (CNN ) today and told them that instead of them putting out these bogus polls, maybe they ought to find out why Mitt Romney is not releasing his tax returns? I also told them that I heard that there were three more swing states they forgot about yesterday, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma.

Joe Walsh is a vile and despicable cretin, absolutely unworthy of his office. He belongs in jail for neglecting his family. I hope he gets swept out for good. Tammy Duckworth has fought and sacrificed dearly for our nation and is beyond question the best person for this seat. She was one of my early followers on twitter and I was so thrilled. I really hope she has the attention of the voters. MORE POWER TO HER.

If you haven’t read the article in Vanity Fair, please do. It’s a little long and gets into some financial stuff, but it’s really worth the read. As I heard David Corn say (paraphrase): If you care about Romney as a possible President you need to read this article about his financial affairs – at least the little that we know. Romney will NEVER release 5-10 years of his tax returns. I’ll bet the farm.

Sounds as though you may be being purposefully understated in your comment, Yardarm. Appalling and sad. This whole incident has made me so sad, it’s almost a “last straw” – if it weren’t for my support for President Obama, I’d simply want to throw in the towel on following politics in this country.

I’m guessing my district isn’t much better. The real pride I have of living where I do in Illinois is more historic than contemporary – I found out when I moved here in 2010 that were it not for redistricting and a bunch of decades shy of two centuries (there’s that), I would have been represented in Congress by none other than Abraham Lincoln, whose portrait I’m looking at hanging on my wall right now. Not sure he’d be too proud of what he saw in his state, today, but maybe I’ll hang onto thinking more of him on the Fourth of July than that scumbag Joe Walsh who will, I’m hoping, get his.

True, that. Oh, I’m hangin’ in. In the clear light of a new day, it makes me stronger to suffer through this idiocy and realize they are far outnumbered by decent people who actually have hearts and souls.

I’m never giving up on President Obama, and I’ll see him through his second term, by remembering to keep my eye on the prize and not the ghouls that would bring him – and the rest of us – down. Our country is too great to abandon to the worst parts of our society at large – in this case, Republicans who live their wretched lives in their echo chamber of horrors.

Not to play armchair campaign manager, but I would think Tammy Duckworth would/could just run the below video of Walsh’s “meltdown” with his OWN constituents because he “drank too much coffee” on a continuous loop in local media and sew the election up. Man is a total nut job…

    http://thedailybanter.com/2012/07/how-obama-is-using-karl-roves-election-strategy-to-batter-romney/

In 2012 Obama is now expertly controlling the message – he has his party lined up behind him repeating talking points with military precision. After the Supreme Court ruling on health care, Democratic leaders came out and repeated the President’s line virtually word for word. When Newark Mayor Cory Booker criticized Obama on his ads attacking Romney for his record at Bain capital, he was slapped down from every corner of the party until he stepped back into line (which he did very, very quickly). The message is now clear – follow the talking points, or risk alienation from the party.

Most importantly, Obama is setting the agenda. He did this reasonably well in 2008, but spent a lot of time deflecting the relentless attacks form the Clinton camp. Obama has clearly learned from his mistakes and is now continually forcing Romney to react to his moves, and not the other way around. This is coming as a bit of a surprise to the Republicans as they have spent over 3 years bashing Obama without having to play defense. Obama has set the terms of debate when it comes to the economy, immigration, health care reform and gay marriage by stating a clear position that is not open to interpretation, and he is hammering Romney for his inability to speak clearly on them.

    snip/

Obama is not following the fourth of Rove’s principles – to never admit mistakes – because so far, he hasn’t had to. Bush made mistakes and never learned from them, whereas Obama clearly has. And there’s a good argument to be made that this makes Obama look even more powerful. He spent much of his first term allowing Republicans to dictate the agenda and set the terms of debate, but no longer. The reversal is noticeable, and impressive.

    • 71 jackiegrumbacher
      July 3, 2012 at 10:00 pm

I absolutely do not agree that “he spent much of his first term allowing Republicans to dictate the agenda and set the terms of the debate..” Is this guy serious? PBO had one legislative triumph after another in the first two years of his term and when voters in 2010 delivered him a Republican House he managed to trap congressional Rs on the debt ceiling, and get them to agree to middle class tax cuts and unemployment extensions they certainly didn’t want. He played John Boehner like a violin and was able to use Republican obstruction of everything from his jobs plan to equal pay for women to paint the GOP into a corner. No president in modern times has ever taken such a sad bunch of sorry lemons as this Republican led House and made such good lemonade.

I still believe Christie will be Robme’s VP running mate. He’s a bully and as nasty as that quitter woman and this is what their base wants. The campaign is bringing back the National Call Team. If anyone would like to sign up I have copied the email I received today from HQ.

    Donna —

Here’s a special mission that I think might be just right for you.

We’re launching the National Call Team, an especially dedicated group of folks who will make the most critical calls this campaign needs to make in the next few months.

I know that you’re already a pro at having conversations over the phone to get people fired up to support President Obama, and that you’re one of our best callers — you’re just the kind of person that this mission calls for.

Be a part of the National Call Team from the start.

Then get ready to hop on the phone this Thursday at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time with OFA Digital Director Teddy Goff to learn more about how this team will be fighting for the President on the front lines, and to get your first assignment. We’ll send you the call details when you sign up.

The National Call Team is going to be on the line for those moments when the campaign really needs some special, experienced hands on deck. Every time you get an assignment, you’ll know that you’re pitching in on the most strategic and most critical work we have in front of us.

You’ll be making calls into key battleground states to rally people at the times when it matters most, and you’ll have some of the most essential conversations that anyone will have over the phone for this election.

We’ll make those calls using the call tool — so you can make them from home or anywhere you like, on your own time and on your own phone. The call tool will help you know who you’re calling and give you a sense of what you could say to the person on the other end of the line, but we’re also counting on your wisdom as one of our best callers to shape those conversations for the strongest impact.

To help you be the best you can be, we’ll have special conference calls where you can learn more about the areas you’re calling and keep you informed on the latest developments. You’ll also get special updates from campaign leaders and chances to exchange tips and tricks with other team members.

It’s going to be a challenging mission, but it’s one I hope you’ll be up for. We really need our best people on this right from the start.

So sign up to join the National Call Team today — and get ready for Thursday night’s call with OFA Digital Director Teddy Goff:

    http://my.barackobama.com/Join-the-National-Call-Team

    Let’s get it started,

The first few calls are scary because you think that people are going to be mean to you. Most people don’t answer so you end up leaving messages on answering machines. I find that people are polite generally. You will encounter one or two meanies and when I do I say thank you and have a good day and move on…

      • July 3, 2012 at 8:32 pm

Seriously, if you love canvassing and registering, then do that! It’s by far and away the more difficult thing to do.

      • July 3, 2012 at 8:50 pm

It can be intimidating at first, but it gets easier and easier. I got it down to a science. I would advise using the provided dialog as just a guide and just talk as you would to anyone. I tried to relate in any way I could with the state I was calling—-“I grew up in Iowa” “I have an uncle still farming near you!” “I have a daughter in Indy who went to college in Indiana, and we visit your state often.” Etc. I also tried to use humor and laugh and joke around a bit if I sensed even a tad bit of a sense of humor on the other end. I tried to get them to like me, and so they would listen to my pearls of political wisdom. Some people are automatically rude, but just laugh and move on to the next one. Most people are nice!

This is big folks. This is just like when the Obama administration and DOJ pushed for SCOTUS to hear ACA way earlier than usual and every beltway hack mocked them and predicted doom and gloom.

I’m going to be keeping my eye on this, the voting rights case, and the affirmative action case that some hack is leveling against the University of Texas at Austin because he/she didn’t meet the admission requirements and wants to blame minorities for all the ills of the world.

      • July 4, 2012 at 7:23 am

Call me crazy but I think DOMA has a better chance in this court than the Voting Rights Act and Affirmative Action. I think the right wing of that court, including Roberts, can’t wait to sink their teeth into those two.

I am ashamed to say he is my Congressman – at least I’ll be rid of him this November since the districts were redrawn and I’m in a new district now. I still hope he gets voted out in November; not only is he worthless as a Congressman, but he is clearly unfit to hold office. He”s a deadbeat dad, a bully, and completely disrespectful to the President, Democrats, and the constituents who disagree with him and call him out on his lies (like me).

This attack on Tammy Duckworth is the lowest of the low. Just when I don’t think he can sink any lower, he goes and proves me wrong. Ms. Duckworth has more courage and heart in her little finger than Walsh will ever have. To disparage a veteran who lost both her legs fighting for this country is just despicable. I will be paying very close attention on election day not just to my district (and of course the Presidential race), but to the 8th district as well. This man has got to go!

We received an email tonight from an acquaintance which is a form stating that the Health Care Act includes a real estate tax for support. I went to Factcheck.org and checked. The email is a lie sent from some group with gop in their name. There are ways to check the truth of this, and the source WSJ gives me great pause.
I wrote the acquaintance back telling him it was a lie. I also reminded him that he worked for the Department of Defense overseas and had excellent health care. I asked him if he was proud to live in the country that is 37th in health care, and the only country where the major reason for bankruptcy is medical bills.
We are going to be fed all sorts of lies until this dies down and people accept it.

Conservative justices refused to compromise with Roberts on Obamacare in the same way that congressional Republicans have said no to everything the president has proposed—a primal instinct driven by rage that gets them nothing.

So funny!! I’m caterwauling in my dorm. People must think I’m crazy, these pics are hilarious. Some faces you can guess, some you can’t:

Looks like Hillary was a little hottie back in the day.

Eric Holder attended Stuyvesant? AND he played ball? Smart AND athletic? HHHhhhh, who ELSE does that remind you of?

Sonia Sotomayor was NOT playing around. I would not mess with Sonia.

Nancy Pelosi was (and still is) a classic beauty.

Rachel Maddow was a cutiepie with longer blonder hair.

      Leon Panetta was ADORABLE!!

      David Axelrod was straight hippy!

Michelle Obama (NOT a politician, but I digress…) looks like Sasha – just as cute as she wanted to be! (or should I say Sasha looks like her mama!!!)

That suit that Janet Napolitano has on should be illegal. For real, like, seriously against ALL laws of decency.

Elizabeth Warren coulda been Gidget’s cousin!

Scott Walker – The Desperado, THE DESPERADO!????

Fast Eddie (that would be Ed Rendell) was barely recognizable. The ‘Dudley Do-Right’ chin dimple gave him away.

Lisa, those pics are a HOOT!!! Wheew eeeeeeee! I got my laugh on, for real.

I loves flash mobs!!! I just discovered this guy today. Apparently he produced a youtube viral sensation in June (a Beauty and the Beast parody). My friend who’s a libertarian ( I’ve been trying to talk him into voting PBO– he doesn’t like Willard but needs the push to vote PBO) showed it to me today. He doesn’t surf the intertubes but his boyfriend loves social media and Beyonce so that’s how he was introduced to this guy Todrick Hall– who is very talented. I didn’t post the ‘Beauty and the Beat’ video because it could be viewed as offensive to some in terms of the crazy caricatures so instead I’m posting Todrick’s flash mob dance to Beyonce’s ‘End of Time’–very good!

Well, I agree with Rupert Murdoch about one thing——Scientolgy is one weird deal. A weird cult. I’ve been reading about all the plentiful info brought on by the demise of TomKat. That super secret segment Sea Org. or whatever it is, on 500 acres in Ca.—–with 6000 “employees” (slaves) paid $50 week, with torture trailers and its own military force and all kinds of fun stuff. “Purification” and detoxifying programs and all forms of brainwashing. Been investigated for human trafficking by the FBI. I don’t get how anyone—-could ever get caught up in this mess and think it was a good or reasonable thing to be involved with. You would have to be a very lost and desperate soul. Bizarre-o beyond belief.

I hope they are running that rural america ad all over TV. That is exactly the kind of ad I was hoping to see and exactly the words I was hoping to hear. This President doesn’t just represent a small portion of Americans, he stands with ALL Americans and I love that this ad makes that very clear and is a stark counterpoint to the Romney ad without one person of color in the entire ad. Speaks volumes.

We need to keep asking Mitt Romney for his tax returns. We need to be as insistent about this as the birthers were about the LFBC. Every day…a constant barrage of demands for the tax returns. The t-party taught us how to do this. We should use their methods to defeat Mitt. And we need to keep sympathizing with our republican friends about how sad it is that they can’t come up with a decent candidate. Disposable Mitt is all they got.

Yesterday I email Wolf, Anderson, and afew others over there at TeaNN, and told them that instead of putting out that bogus poll, they ought to be finding out why Mitt Romney has not release his tax returns. And my plans were to get MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, NY Times, Washington Post, today. And keep asking them that same question.

    This is for chips.

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He says, “I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers. I’ll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back.”

The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan’s offer. One man even leaves. Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder. “Is your bet still good?” asks the Irishman.

The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pints of Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses drinking them all back-to-back.

The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement. The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, “If ya don’t mind me askin’, where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?”

The Irishman replies, “Oh … I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first.”

    This is for others.

An Irishman is sitting at the end of a bar. He sees a lamp at the end of the table. He walks down to it and rubs it. Out pops a genie. It says: “I will give you three wishes.”

The man thinks awhile. Finally he says: “I want a beer that never is empty.”

With that, the genie makes a poof sound and on the bar is a bottle of beer. The Irishman starts drinking it and right before it is gone, it starts to refill. The genie asks about his next two wishes.

The man says: “I want two more of these.”

Remember that article by Lloyd Grove on the The Daily Beast about PBO “begging” for money on AF1? Well, it turns out to be another desperate attempt to disparage the President. Here is an article from someone who was actually ON the conference call with PBO.

It’s from HuffPoop so I’ll just post the whole article here.

    *********************
The Truth About Obama’s Air Force One Phone Call

The Daily Beast writer Lloyd Grove has distorted President Obama’s fundraising phone call of June 29.

I was on that call. The president did not “beg,” the president did not “ramble,” and the president did not sound like “a dog-tired idealist forced to grapple painfully with hard reality.” Give me a break.

Shame on you, Mr. Grove, for distorting the president’s remarks, intentions, and attitude. Shame on you Daily Beast for publishing such distortions. You say he “begged” for funds “now,” and the “now” part is true, but he didn’t beg, and he explained why “now” in his response to a North Carolina caller’s question “What do you mean by “deadline” and why are there deadlines at all?” (See below)

Here is the story of how I got to be on a phone call with the president of the United States, and the actual notes I took, warts and all, of two interesting questions from callers, and informative answers from President Obama. Both questions and answers are missing from Grove’s article in The Daily Beast. There are a few spots where I couldn’t write fast enough, in which case I inserted dots, but I got as much as I could. Start now:

I’d received an email asking if I’d like to conference in on a call from the president, since I was one of Obama’s “original supporters.” Why not, I thought, it’s probably going to be a recording of his voice or something, but I’ll find out. Excuse my cynicism but I’m sick of politicians, especially the partisan shenanigans of Congress and the Supreme Court. So I signed up for a call that would come in at 6:45 ET/3:45 PT. I clicked on the website given to sign up for the call, filled in a question to ask the president, and shortly received an email with the number to phone at the time given, and a pin number.

At 3:44, I dialed the number and a woman asked me to wait for a few minutes. 3:46, she came back and said the president would be on in a few minutes. Yeah, sure, I thought. Silly me. About 3:48, a man’s voice introduced himself as Rufus Gifford, Finance Director in Chicago of O’s campaign. He spoke a few minutes about fundraising and soon introduced Jim Messina, Campaign Director, who spoke about how much they needed our donations… you could hear the same muffled airplane noises that had been on The West Wing TV show when “Pres Bartlet” was on Air Force One. Messina vamped a minute or two waiting for Obama and then, there he was. Obama. No intro needed. He just picked up the phone. He apologized for sounding tired. He did not mention that they had just left Colorado. He didn’t have to; it was on the news. He spoke, in a matter-of-fact way, about the need to again ask for the help of those who had first helped get him elected, and it was as though you were in the same room with him. He spoke of the difference between the 2008 campaign and this one. He spoke dispassionately of the changes since Citizens United. He could have ripped it to shreds, but he didn’t.

Unlike when we hear him speaking on television, every now and then, there’d be an “uh … uh” as he apparently composed his thoughts. Talk about someone who can think on his feet! Talk about someone who can multi-task! Here’s a man whose schedule had already been changed due to an unexpected trip to Colorado in connection with the tragic fire, and still, he’s almost exactly on time with a phone call to us. I don’t care that the reason was fundraising, I care that he’s smart enough to leave no stone unturned to compete with massive political PAC donations. I then heard him ask, a little off the phone like he had turned away and was speaking sotto voce to someone else, “Don’t you have some questions for me?”

I’m not a celeb or a millionaire or even a political activist, so I shook myself out of the fantasy universe in which this phone call from the president had put me, and started to write down what was being said:

Question one from a woman in NC (who had apparently received an earlier email than I did and knew what the phone call would be about): “Are these deadlines real and what are they about?”

President Obama: “We need to report our fundraising and that can be a double-edged sword… the media looks at it and hyperventilates. Last month, Gov. Romney had $76 million to our $60 million… it’s for how much advertising we can buy in battleground states… we have to hire people to see it all the way through… early money is more valuable than late money… some people think Gov. Romney doesn’t know what he’s talking about and then we find out some millionaire sat down and wrote him a million-dollar check… there’s a voter registration deadline we must meet… we need to purchase TV ads [now] with August and September deadlines… ”

Question two from a man in Minneapolis: “In 2008, I gave $2,300 but this time I’m against big donors. How can my money have much impact when we’re up against millionaires?”

President Obama: “We don’t have to match these guys dollar for dollar. We have got a better message. We can’t be drowned out. Two million people have given money instead of buying something they want. Gov Romney doesn’t have a broad base of support … I’d take a grass roots check every time… Whatever you can do will be helpful. I have confidence that the number of people can beat the gazillionaires every single time… The Affordable Care Act… spent ten times as much as we did advertising against it. It’s not surprising the American people don’t know what’s in it… If we have enough resources to carry our message, we’re going to win this thing….

“In 2008, everything was exciting and new. I’ve got gray hair now from working with an obstructionist Republican Congress… I hope that you guys haven’t become disillusioned because I’m not a perfect president. Michelle can tell you that. But I have fought on your behalf and I hope you still believe in me. If you’re willing to do what we need to do to win… I have extraordinary confidence in this country.”

    ***
When I’m home, a comfort-food dinner finished, feet up, reading a good book, I’m not as relaxed as Obama was on that call. I can’t swear to it, but it seemed to me, an “audio witness,” that he was grinning when he said certain things, like “Michelle can tell you that.” He was calm, cool, and collected. Confident. I never knew charisma could come right through a telephone.

He never “begged,” but I am begging you, here and now: Please make an informed decision when you vote. Listen to what the “other side” (no matter which one) has to say. Check *reliable* sources not just sources of your own party (whichever it is). Remember that opinions are not facts.

Don’t know if anyone saw this, hopefully I’m not double-posting – it’s Joe Walsh’s response to the outrage his comment about Tammy Duckworth caused. Of course, it wasn’t HIS fault and he blames HER. Lowering himself even further.

    http://thinkprogress.org/?mobile=nc

Presenting himself as the real victim in this ordeal, Walsh claimed he was being accused “of something that is not true.” (Watch his original comments here http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/07/03/510443/joe-walsh-tammy-duckworth-service/ and judge for yourself.) “Shame on her for using veterans,” he declared, despite having never served in the military himself.
