Love him, too. I watch Food Network a lot and when I was watching “Worst Cooks 3″ they showed ads with him and others for a special on hunger in America. You can see how much he cares when he talks about kids going hungry; the pain he feels for them is very evident. He’s a good person.
President Obama sharply attacked Mitt Romney over the individual mandate on Friday, hitting him for “abandoning a principle” he fought for in the past due to political considerations.
“One of the things that you learn as president is that what you say matters and your principles matter,” Obama told a local Cincinnati NBC affiliate, according to excerpts provided by his campaign. “And sometimes, you’ve got to fight for things that you believe in and you can’t just switch on a dime.”
He also criticized the presumptive GOP nominee for saying the mandate was a tax after one of Romney’s senior campaign advisers said it was a penalty.
~snip~
“And the fact that a whole bunch of Republicans in Washington suddenly said this is a tax — for six years he said it wasn’t, and now he has suddenly reversed himself,” Obama noted. “So the question becomes, are you doing that because of politics? Are you abandoning a principle that you fought for, for six years, simply because you’re getting pressure for two days from Rush Limbaugh or some critics in Washington?”
OK so I’m on the last thread talking about not having air conditioning in the old days, and completely missed the signing. That’ll teach me to impart wisdom at critical moments. Oh well, I had to laugh out loud on two threads back about the Chris ‘Crispie Creme’ Christie protecting his ice cream cone from a constituent.
cookemom…..I too remember the years before air conditioning, and the big chunks of ice we had delivered at the lake in Michigan. In Chicago we had refrigerators, but no air conditioning. Does anyone else remember those big tall round rotating fans in church and the funeral parlor handheld fans? I think most of you are too young.
This is definitely OT, but something occurred to me today. The MSM are bound and determined to make Ann Romney the darling of the campaign. I think they are afraid of saying anything even realistic about her. However, after listening to her absolutely stupid CBS interview, I realized that she is a blonde, rich Sarah Palin! Yes, she whines, she plays the martyr and victim, and has used men all her life to make her way up the ladder. Listen to what she says. It has hardly any foundation in reality, and is indeed a word salad like sister Sarah. I just think people have been too nice so far to pick this up. It became glaringly obvious to me after that interview.
I mentioned this yesterday. After that interview where she said with conviction that Mitt’s father was crazy, I thought ‘oh oh, she’s a loose canon’. She is not who they thought she’d be in representing her husband on the trail. Neither are able to speak extraneously, which could be a problem for the campaign. Folks are saying Mitt needs her to be with him at appearances. I say it’s the other way around. She can’t be left alone with the media. The campaign must be pulling their hair out, cause she won’t come close to FLOTUS once the heavy campaigning get underway. You can dressage a horse, but that won’t make it Mr. Ed.
I’ll try an find the video, but Mitt was taken aback and visibly shocked. You know that’s why George had to drop his bid for the presidency, folks thought he was crazy. For her to say that with a straight face was mind boggling. Mitt said ‘whoa you’re going to call my dad crazy/’ and the commentator kinda tried to chuckle it off. I believe she was as surprised that they were surprised as if, ‘wha…?’.
Let’s not forget..with Mitt’s millions parked offshore, NOT GETTING TAXED..that means that ordinary Americans have to make up that difference! HE’s so selfish and self centered that he thinks that this kind of cheating is ok…because, you know..really rich people have different rules than the commoners do! This should absolutely piss everyone off!
Indeed,df! And Mitt has the audacity to run under the banner that says he believes in America. I don’t care what anyone says, but a businessman who purposely evades paying his share of taxes and outsources/offshores jobs is not fit to be President of The United States.
‘Mitt has the audacity to run under the banner that says he believes in America.’
Audacity indeed! Makes me want to ask him what exactly is it in America he believes in? Not the banks; not the schools; not the very poor; hot the healthcare, etc, etc.
Here’s how Romney did it: He slashed costs and restored funding feared lost after the scandal turned off donors and Congress. He pared down the opening ceremony (what it lost in pomp it more than made up for in exploitative post-9/11 weepy nationalism, courtesy of G.W. Bush and a torn-up flag flown in from ground zero over the objections of the IOC) and begged his billionaire friends to write him million-dollar checks. He raised ticket prices 14 percent above the previous games and auctioned off the best tickets on the Internet. He promised Bank of America executives that they’d get paid back before taxpayers if they extended more credit. And, most important, he lobbied the hell out of Congress, at least until George Bush entered the White House and put Olympic spending right in his budget, which had the added benefit of helping out a rising star in the GOP.
The Olympics were saved, thanks to the largess of the 1 percent and the congressional appropriations process.
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s decision to deny Planned Parenthood Medicaid funds because it performs abortions denies women the freedom to choose their health care providers, a federal hearing officer said.
The state had asked the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Chicago to reconsider its June 2011 ruling that found changes in Indiana’s Medicaid plan unacceptable. But a hearing officer recommended in documents released Friday that a CMS administrator uphold the agency’s initial decision.
The changes to Indiana’s plan resulted from a 2011 law that would have made the state the first to deny the organization Medicaid funds for general health services, including cancer screenings. The law has been on hold while the dispute works its way through the courts.
The Indiana attorney general’s office, which already is appealing a federal judge’s order blocking the law, said it may also contest the panel’s recommendation. The state had argued that the dispute should be decided administratively by the CMS, not in court.
“Because this is a recommendation, the Attorney General’s Office has a chance to file an exception to it before the CMS administrator makes a final decision,” the agency said in a statement.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana said it was gratified by the decision.

Obama and his allies tossed that advice in the trash and have only stepped things up. A series of Florida spots from the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action have gone after Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital, and last week Obama’s campaign jumped on board with its own ad that tries to link Romney to companies that outsourced jobs. “President Obama believes in insourcing,” a narrator states.
NBLB! Hey y’all, here is a thread with only 58 comments! My iPad cannot handle once the comment load reaches 250, screen jumps all over the place, and takes too long to load! Should we continue the conversation over here?
Hi, Pamela…I’m here…slow to load comments for me…gets too hard when there are that many comments and videos…they should find us here…I left another note:)
Hi DF, I kept looking after sending out a couple messages but no one has come, and I find even you are here all alone! I had to get on with some logs and bookkeeping, watched a few of the videos, but now I am just plain tired out! Denea flew home to Sydney yesterday, so I am happy she landed safely! She is a dear daughter, I am still getting postcards in the mail, she posted from every place she went in France! I feel very special! Goodnight, see you around on TOD tomorrow….. {{{{{{DF}}}}}}}
OH! Did she have a fabulous time? She’s so adorable..you must be so proud of your smart, lovely, accomplished daughter:) Glad she is safe and sound. If you need to run, then I’ll see you tomorrow, I’m sure. Sleep well….don’t worry about me, I’m used to talking to myself and just posting what I find…I’m ok. The gang will find me sooner or later. Manana:)
Now you have the loose cannon over here, (you know who I mean, right? ), the others will follow! Yes, Denea had a marvelous time, of course the time flew by and she did not want to leave. But reality beckons.. She was feeling very comfortable using her French, felt conversational, but really wanted to stay longer to become fluent! I suspect she will find a way to get back over there before long. Mid-summer was a perfect time to make the trip, I don’t doubt it could be kind of chilly in the winter! I’m off now, after amk thanks me for the special prize made by Chips Special Delivery, I know he is so touched, he wants to thank me personally, tho I begged CC to let me remain anonymous! Hey y’all, I’m here but going to say g’night and read for a little bit. Pamela, happy your daughter arrived safely! As I asked on the other thread, what are the chances that the Ron Paul video is real or possible? Waiting……waiting……will be difficult. Fingers crossed that his campaign makes some sort of trouble. Don’t care what, just trouble! Of course, would love for what is talked about on the video to be true. Yet, I know there’s lots of politics involved.
I think it’s real. Paul’s supporters are PISSED at Romney and think that he’s taking away delegates that rightfully belong to Paul. RM has done a lot of looking into this…I’ll try and check and see if this is actually in court. I would LOVE to see that mischief at the convention…
Thanks, df, for sharing this piece. It clarified what the lawyer was saying on the video you shared on the other thread. It appears the GOP house is not as united as we are led to believe. On the other hand, I think that it’s highly doubtful that the Courts will intervene in internal party squabbles. We will see. But clearly some of Ron Paul supporters are pissed, especially the lawyer who kept calling Willard “Mitt” Romney a criminal.
I know, tnmtngirl, I listened to it also, and while I agree with a lot of it, I thought the guy started sounding a little psychotic, noted his language usage was not very good, considering he is a lawyer. I have to say, I hope they tears strips off Myth, if anyone deserves time in the Big House, he does…. And I don’t mean the big White House! Hee! Goodnight. Love ya’ TOD!
They included these little nuggets: The recommended contribution for the event she was attending was $25,000.
Earlier in the campaign Romney recieved criticism for saying, “I’m not concerned with the very poor.” He later said he misspoke.
Romney’s tax plan would give the richest 0.1% of Americans an average tax cut of $264,000.
“I don’t think the common person is getting it…my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”
I too hope “blows up in his face.” This woman is basically saying lower income people ( and I suppose she included her rich college kid) should not have the right to vote. These people are not even trying to hide their distaste of people who are not as rich as they are.
Lawyer VC is back, and she strongly counses against stepping aside with him…..unless of course you have a hidden microphone under the desk in your office and a hidden camera in the ceiling somewhere!
Now, that is more like it, it feels like a conversation again, instead of iPad on psychotropics! Whoa, it is hard to describe what happens on the screen when there are more than 250 comments, plus all the videos, kind of amazing, but time consuming! Now, what is it you wanted to talk to me about, amk?
Because you kept the cheesy puffs secret until after he came by! You are welcome, amk, I just knew that photo would speak to you in a special way! I guess Chipsticks agreed, eh? And Tally, and DF, and others, tho I have had little time to read up the comments today…. Give Chips my love if she turns up after I log off! ‘night all…. {{{{{{{TOD}}}}}}}}
Got to run out for a quick bit…talk amongst yourselves…I’ll catch up in a few. I think that Chips should leave an empty thread every night….just post a great pic at the top, and let us do our thing. Poor darling, she works so hard for us. Bless her.Someone needs to send her a Lear jet to go home on….
That’s a nice idea. You should make this empty thread suggestion to CC, especially as she’s going to be away soon. I wonder if she also knows how to do the timed released posts? I remember reading on 1 or 2 other blogs (before I got hooked on TOD) that the administrator was able to set things up so that pre-prepared blogs could be released in a timed manner. Maybe I’ll suggest this to CC too.
Tomorrow at the WH: Pres Obama reaches out to 6 swing states taping TV interviews with stations from FL, IA, NC, NH, NV, WI + KY & LA.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) July 08, 2012
Also tomorrow, Pres Obama does 2 campaign fundraisers at a local hotel. Both closed to press coverage.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) July 08, 2012
i know–and almost every day we see photos of pbo running up or down the steps of an airplane. makes me dizzy just thinking of all the time zones and restaurant food and new faces.
These so called journalists are a disgrace! If the President is reaching out only for “swing states” why did he include Kentucky and Louisiana? This is nothing but manipulative reporting. An objective reporter would have simply listed the states without implying that the President is giving these interviews purely for political gain. The second tweet also had to emphasize that the President’s other fundraising events are closed to the Press. I hope all of you TOD people who tweet will respond to Knoller’s snide tweets.
Mr. Romney didn’t get rich by producing things people wanted to buy; he made his fortune through financial engineering that seems in many cases to have left workers worse off, and in some cases driven companies into bankruptcy.
And there’s another contrast: George Romney was open and forthcoming about what he did with his wealth, but Mitt Romney has largely kept his finances secret. He did, grudgingly, release one year’s tax return plus an estimate for the next year, showing that he paid a startlingly low tax rate. But as the Vanity Fair report points out, we’re still very much in the dark about his investments, some of which seem very mysterious.
snip/
To the extent that Mr. Romney has a coherent policy agenda, it involves cutting tax rates on the very rich — which are already, as I said, down by about half since his father’s time. Surely a man advocating such policies has a special obligation to level with voters about the extent to which he would personally benefit from the policies he advocates.
Yet obviously that’s something Mr. Romney doesn’t want to do. And unless he does reveal the truth about his investments, we can only assume that he’s hiding something seriously damaging.
great piece from krugman, and the last line is perfect: ‘we can only assume that he’s hiding something seriously damaging.’ correct–there really is no other viable assumption.
it still amazes me that all these major newspapers’s columnists and reporters are quoting the vanity fair piece. aren’t they ashamed? don’t they realize that reporting the news is their job–not just repeating talking points?
This is really an excellent piece that should be shared widely. Thank you so much, df, for all the information you share. Your links are one of the reasons I appreciate this blog so much.
I’m blushing now, nathkatun:) Thank you. Thank you very much. We all have a role…mine is finding these bits of info and sharing them so we can move forward together…no one can take our knowledge, and knowledge is power. So glad that you are able to use and share what I find to post.
These rich people, who by the way have done so well under President Obama, are utterly shameless. They no longer hide their disdain for people who are not as rich as they are. If they could, they would go back to the days when only people with property were allowed to vote. The tragedy, of course, is that they will use their immense wealth to bamboozle ordinary people that they despise so much to vote against their own interests.

Amk & Df, you guys are hilarious! But then again you may be telling the truth about the way these pampered and entitled people really act. Any way, df, I just can’t stop laughing about the “VIP bathroom.”
This is a must read, not just because of Krugman’s statements but because of the really smart comments re. Willard and his secret finances. I have to say, I hope they tears strips off Myth, if anyone deserves time in the Big House, he does…. And I don’t mean the big White House! Hee! Goodnight. Love ya’ TOD!
ThinkProgress picked this up! http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/07/08/512645/romney-donor-says-lower-income-people-dont-understand-whats-going-on/
They included these little nuggets: The recommended contribution for the event she was attending was $25,000.
Earlier in the campaign Romney recieved criticism for saying, “I’m not concerned with the very poor.” He later said he misspoke.
Romney’s tax plan would give the richest 0.1% of Americans an average tax cut of $264,000.
I hope this blows up in his face. Big time!
Ah, the troublemakers are assembled here in the underground.
Pamela – Ahem, I’d like a word in private with you.
Hey, no troublemaker here. I’m going to bed.
Sweet dreams tnmtngirl!
Yes, of course, please step into my office>>>>>> right this way!
DF, you come too, okay? Since VC is off the air…..
hey, what are you two doing in there? do i smell smoke?
Yes, it is incense, of the Nepalese string style, very soothing and peaceful in here now! Candles burning, too, welcome, welcome!
Ha, the tough lioness….
Lawyer VC is back, and she strongly counses against stepping aside with him…..unless of course you have a hidden microphone under the desk in your office and a hidden camera in the ceiling somewhere!
‘strongly counseLs’ – I think I’d better crawl off to bed too. My poor eyes are tired.
Hi, Amk! It’s been a very little while since we’ve talked, but I only have energy for a quick ‘hi’.
wimmin. tch, tch, tch. /smh
OK. repost in this shady den
And where am I going with you?
amk…always finds the party!! I knew you would find us:)! Yea!!!
amk, you found us because I said there were cold drinks and hot conversation, didn’t you…..
Because you kept the cheesy puffs secret until after he came by! You are welcome, amk, I just knew that photo would speak to you in a special way! I guess Chipsticks agreed, eh? And Tally, and DF, and others, tho I have had little time to read up the comments today…. Give Chips my love if she turns up after I log off! ‘night all…. {{{{{{{TOD}}}}}}}}
just cold drinks and hot conversation ? what kinda eeevul underground is this place, anyway ? Where are my gimlets?
amk…have to run out…when I get back, we’ll have a drink:) Gimletsssssssssssssss ?/ Plural?! Alrighty then!
Off to prepare dinner … take care everyone
Thank you, Bob:) Have a great dinner!
Busy man. I get exhausted just seeing that schedule in print.
i know–and almost every day we see photos of pbo running up or down the steps of an airplane. makes me dizzy just thinking of all the time zones and restaurant food and new faces.
I wish he’s hold that rail going down the stairs….I know I have to:)
THIS! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/09/opinion/krugman-mitts-gray-areas.html?hpw
Corporate owned media, baby! They know who butters their bread:)
I’m back, amk:)have my gin and tonic…you must be on gimlet #2 by now!
Look where we could be if R’s didn’t cut govt jobs

Go to bed Df!. I don’t want to leave you alone, but I’m starting to nod off, See y
See yiu around.
Sorry, VC, I want df to stick around because I learn so much from her. Besides, it’s not yet 10:00pm here in SC.
You stinker:) It’s now 11:18…be up for a little while longer if you’re still here.
I was watching the Newsroom…or whatever that Sorkin show is on HBO…excellent! Sleep tight, vc…see you tomorrow!
lots of funny stuff on that ‘overheard’ thread.
So where the hell are the gimlets I ordered ?
Sorry, amk…I slammed my G/T and started watching HBO…:( Oops! Did you make one because I was taking so long??
since it’s such a small party, how about some silly movies?
aiyeeeee! sorry!
That was funny:)
Lotsa funny, and probably true, tweets on that hashtag.
I love it when the booze, money and entitlement start flowing…they always say what they really think then….as angry as this makes us “common stupid people”….I think these loose lips might end up being great for us when all is said and done.I would SOOOOOOOO make an ad with that statement in it. The “still in denial” people…might actually get a clue.
Funny. TBogg @tbogg
Is there a VIP bathroom? I have to VIpee. #OverheardAtRomneyFundraiser

Amk & Df, you guys are hilarious! But then again you may be telling the truth about the way these pampered and entitled people really act. Any way, df, I just can’t stop laughing about the “VIP bathroom.”
Ok…midnight. I’m off to sleep:) See you tomorrow!
Sleep Well, df! You were on fire tonight. Your overworked brain deserve a real good night sleep so that you may come back stronger tomorrow.
anybody still up?
here’s an interesting piece about a real journalist, ben bradlee of the washington post. from vanity fair.
http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2012/06/Ben-bradlee-zingers-correspondence-barbs-post
GM, 6:45 a.m. east coast. Hope everyone had a good sleep. Off to Curves in a few……..be back later. I think our ‘troublemakers’ are still asleep.
Gibbs is an excellent attack dog!
Gibbs just tore up Señor! LOL!
This is a must read, not just because of Krugman’s statements but because of the really smart comments re. Willard and his secret finances. As someone said, can you imagine President Obama having a Swiss bank account and millions in tax havens in the Caymans??? People would be going wild with outrage.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/09/opinion/krugman-mitts-gray-areas.html?_r=2&ref=politics
They would be totally losing their minds. If possible, it would be way beyond outrage. Remember the rule: IOKIYAR!
Come on y’all, new rise and shine breaking open!
GM, Pamela. I’ve given up looking for anyone. Talking to myself.
