Yes they are. But that was the goal of the teabaggers. Come to Washington and bring the government to a standstill. Attempt to undue everything the President has done and don’t let anything else get done. Of course, they haven’t succeeded as much as they would have liked, because of our incredibility brilliant President. However, I heard him mention his gray hair, thanks to the obstruction of Congress.

Absolutely the worst! Also the most anti-America. This Republican controlled House of Representatives would rather destroy the country to prevent President Obama from being re-elected.

‘Also the most anti-America’ What’s this the 112th Congress?

Maybe this is a theme, or is the more correct term ‘meme’, that the media TOD media squad could add to their target messages? Just saying. From Chips’ comments it would seem we are becoming more focused on issues and therefore more effective, and less inclined to wander down not-so-meaningful (vis-a-vis the big picture) pathways

Ditto that. Boehner has set a new low for House Speakers. People will be using his tenure as the measure of terribleness for generations. Never before has a Congress so actively worked against both the president and the American people in order to satisfy the greed of a wealthy few.. These guys have made a mockery of the Constitution that spent so much time reading when they were sworn in. A total waste of time and money.

Wells Fargo to pay $175m for race discrimination

US bank Wells Fargo will pay at least $175m (£113m) to settle accusations that it discriminated against African-American and Hispanic borrowers, the Department of Justice (DoJ) has said.

The bank is accused of charging non-white customers higher interest rates and fees on mortgages than it charged white customers between 2004 and 2009.

    Wells Fargo denied the claims.

But it said it was settling the matter “solely for the purpose of avoiding contested litigation with the DoJ”.

Barney Frank: Mitt Romney Has A ‘Meanness At His Core’ (VIDEO)

    March 29, 2012

    ————————————

“Mitt Romney is a man who appears on the basis of a long effort to be a politician,” said Frank. “He claims he doesn’t want to be a politician, but that’s mostly because he’s generally been unsuccessful in his efforts to be an elected official. Mitt Romney is a man totally devoid of any commitment to any principle except his own advancement. There is literally not a public policy which he has not advocated one side on one time and one side on the other. I’ve never seen a major political figure so absolutely unburdened by any commitment to any principle whatsoever.”

Continued Frank on the former Massachusetts governor, “Usually when a politician shifts position to a certain group, they don’t mind. People are very tolerant of people who flip toward them. But Mitt Romney has been so obvious in his absolute lack of principle that even the people who he temporarily says ‘I agree with you’ are not reassured, because they understand when the wind blows, there he will go again.”

Frank also said that there is a “meanness” at Romney’s core.

    Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol. XXIV

By Steve Benen – Fri Jun 29, 2012 2:07 PM EDT

    ———————————–

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that came out this week included an interesting, open-ended question: “What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Mitt Romney as president?” Poll respondents weren’t offered any choices; they could offer any response they wanted.

The results weren’t especially surprising — the most common answer noted Romney being very wealthy. There were also plenty of folks who mentioned Romney’s conservatism, his Mormon faith, his controversial positions on women’s rights, etc.

Down towards the bottom of the list, however, was one that jumped out me: “Dishonest.” For at least some respondents — not a lot, but some — the first thing that came to mind when thinking about Romney was the candidate’s willingness to say things that aren’t true.

It’s good to know I’m not the only one who’s noticed. In fact, the public response should probably be far more common given how quickly the Republican’s record of falsehoods is growing. Consider, for example, the 24th installment of my weekly series, chronicling Mitt’s mendacity.

Geitner tried to warn about LIBOR in 2008

    http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/07/12/geithner-was-aware-of-problems-with-key-interest-rates/?hp

When Timothy F. Geithner ran the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, he acknowledged fundamental problems with the process for setting key interest rates in the midst of the 2008 financial crisis, according to documents provided to The New York Times.

Mr. Geithner, who is now the United States Treasury secretary, questioned the integrity of the benchmark as reports surfaced that Barclays and other big banks were misrepresenting the rates. In 2008, Barclays had several conversations with New York Fed officials about the matter.

Mr. Geithner then reached out to top British authorities to discuss issues with the interest rate, which is set in London. In an e-mail to his counterparts, he outlined reforms to the system, suggesting that British authorities “strengthen governance and establish a credible reporting procedure” and “eliminate incentive to misreport,” according to the documents.

But the warnings came too late, and Barclays continued the illegal activity.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/la-pn-republicans-block-smallbusiness-tax-break-on-procedural-vote–20120712,0,3051806.story

One of the top items on President Obama’s to do list — a 10% tax break for small businesses that make new hires — got tangled in an election-year tax debate as Republicans led a filibuster to block the measure.

The legislation would have provided the tax credit to companies that hire new employees or otherwise expand their payrolls this year, a typically popular approach among the GOP. Republicans in the Senate did not necessarily object to the measure, but they protested Thursday after Democrats refused to allow votes on other amendments.

Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, sought votes on other tax proposals, specifically one that would extend for another year the tax breaks from theGeorge W. Bush administration that expire in December.

    snip/

the small-business tax break was blocked on a vote of 53 to 44 after the Senate failed to reach the 60-vote threshold to break the GOP-led filibuster. Two Republican senators, Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Dean Heller of Nevada — who both have tough reelection campaigns this fall — voted with Democrats. Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia joined Republicans in voting no.

The measure would have provided a 10% tax credit, up to $500,000 on payrolls of $5 million, for businesses that make new hires or otherwise expand their payrolls.

The legislation also included a popular provision to allow companies to deduct 100% of certain investments in new equipment, rather than the standard 50%, for 2012.

    Same shit, different day.

This is scary on so many levels. http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/07/12/the_romney_cheney_doctrine

A large majority of Americans agree that President Barack Obama has a strong record protecting our nation’s security and that he has the right vision for American leadership in the world. Governor Mitt Romney’s proposals, in contrast, promise to return us to the discredited doctrines and reckless policies of the George W. Bush administration. We’ve seen that movie before, and it doesn’t end well

    snip/

As Romney considers possible running mates, it’s worth remembering that he pointed to Dick Cheney as the “kind of person I’d like to have” working with him. Likewise, the policies that Romney has advocated — like indefinitely leaving our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example — are continuations of the Bush-Cheney doctrine, version 2.0.

It’s no secret that Cheney was the driving force behind the Bush administration’s failed foreign policies: starting the war in Iraq with no plan to finish it, bullying our allies around the world, and watching while Iran and North Korea moved forward with their nuclear programs because the Bush White House couldn’t bring the international community together to confront these threats.

Out of Romney’s 24 special advisors on foreign policy, 17 served in the Bush-Cheney administration. If Romney were to win, it’s likely that many of these people would serve in his administration in some capacity — a frightening prospect given the legacy of this particular group. The last time they were in government, it was disastrous.

For example, one of Romney’s top surrogates on the campaign trail is John Bolton, who served as President George W. Bush’s ambassador to the United Nations. Bolton embodies the reckless neoconservative thinking that was largely responsible for getting us into Iraq under false pretenses. Today, he openly roots for diplomacy with Iran to fail and is all-too-eager to send our men and women in uniform into war. Last year, for instance, Bolton said that, “It would be in our interest to overthrow this regime in Syria.”

This ALONE should send shivers up everyone’s spines.Holy shit. Never again.

Here’s today’s focus for #CanMittMatchThis? To which I’ve added ‘current events’ to signify whatever is being talked about that lends itself to our effort to compare the two candidates. I’m suggesting ‘current events’ be an active addition to the day’s focus, as it seems to make sense.

Friday – Education; Energy + Current Events

Also, don’t forget to remind your local OFA group and all of your personal contacts re #adollaradaytoofa

Chips, I think it’s Friday so you and the obots better have a ‘Fantastic Friday’!

Hi ya vc (waving from the ground, she look sooo tiny, mom).

      #CanMittMatchThis? has now become #CanMittStandThis?

Have a safe flight. And leave the pilots alone.

Morning Joe and pontificating Jon Mecham both said there is “little choice” in the presidential race. I heard no push back before changing the station.

There is no other way to look at it. It really is that simple.

His tax returns would clear things up, but they must be too damaging to release. I see no way around the tax return problem for Willard.

Mitt Romney and his team in Boston aren’t the only ones feverishly vetting potential running mates.

In a non-descript Washington, DC office building within sight of the United States Capitol, a team of more than a dozen Democratic researchers have spent the last few months examining every nook and cranny of the records of several GOP vice presidential contenders.

The researchers work for the super PAC, American Bridge 21st Century, which is unveiling a new website on Friday called VeepMistakes.com. The site features more than 1,300 pages of opposition research and scores of video clips.

Political prognosticators can only speculate who is on Romney’s short-list, but now we know who the Democrats are preparing to target. The super PAC is shining their spotlight on three of the mostly likely contenders: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Their research files, which the group is making public for the first time, also offers a sneak peek at the attacks the Democrats are poised to use against whichever potential V.P. ultimately gets the nod from Romney.
