In a previously unreported remark, Romney indicated he went through a “transition” at Bain after heading to Utah in February 1999.
in interviews with the major television networks on Friday, Romney insisted, as he told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, that he had “no role with regards to Bain Capital after February 1999.” He maintained that all the questions regarding his stint at Bain were merely part of the Obama campaign’s “kill Romney” strategy.
Yet during that 2002 hearing—in a remark that has not been previously reported—Romney said that after he departed Bain in February 1999 he went through a transition period regarding his work in Boston.
When a lawyer challenging his eligibility asked Romney, “Did you remain more or less continuously in Salt Lake City from February ’99 to the end of the year,” Romney answered:
Actually, there was some transition away from my work in Boston for the first few months and then I pretty much stayed there after.
Trying to clarify this, the lawyer, after referring to this “transition,” asked, “So from February through the end of the year you were pretty much full-time out in Utah, right?”
Romney replied: “Well again, the beginning of the year was a good deal of time back and forth, but towards the last half of the year it was pretty much exclusively in Utah.”
With these statements, it seems Romney was saying that because he remained involved in Bain matters during a transition period, he traveled to and from Massachusetts for several months. The problem for Romney is, he’s now insisting—and he signed a federal form declaring—he had no participation in Bain (besides owning the company and its various entities) once he headed to Utah. During this current controversy over his role at Bain, he has not said anything about a transition period.
For me, the question is: why is Romney running so hard from Bain after 1999? If he’s not ashamed of what he did, why wouldn’t he just own it? Is it because of the profits he earned from the abortion waste removal company? Is it because of the millions he made from firing people and destroying companies and families? Is it because of stuff we haven’t even uncovered yet? He was CEO at Bain. Why would he deny it so vehemently?

Done. I’ve been pissed off about this ever since Randi Rhodes talked about Jindal’s plan announced in June to privitize schools in Louisiana. I’ve been writing weekly to Arne Duncan & Dept of Education regarding Jindal’s efforts to decimate public schools to gin up a reason to defund them, by privitizing through a voucher system. And that voucher system is in Jindal’s words the new educational “delivery system” to schools teaching with DVDS in windowless trailers and bible based math books. Earlier this month, Jindal signed a status budget apparently cutting ALL state funding for public libraries.

I am just finding it incredulous that he is using Teresa Kerry’s income/taxes etc. as an example. There is no comparison. She was not running for President. She was/is a businesswoman with her own income from the family’s dynasty of Heinz. She and John Kerry reported separately. Her income or tax filings were no one’s business except hers, her family, and the IRS at that time.

-Guantanamo: Defense Authorization Bill for fiscal year 2011 blocks the Department of Defense from using any money to move Guantanamo prisoners to the U.S. for any reason. It also says the Pentagon can’t spend money on any U.S. facility aimed at housing detainees moved from Guantanamo, in a slap at the administration’s study of building such a facility in Illinois.
-The CFPB is the only banking regulator with a cap on its independent funding. For additional funding, the CFPB must request an appropriation from Congress rather than levy fees on banks, as the other banking regulators may do.
-IRS. An expanding workload and cuts in funds have left the Internal Revenue Service unable to adequately perform either of its primary duties — collecting taxes and providing the public with reasonable service, according to a report released Wednesday by the I.R.S.’s internal monitor.
-GREEN MILITARY: House Republicans passed a pair of provisions that would stymie the military’s efforts to incorporate more renewable fuels into its supplies. The Senate committee, on a near-party line vote with Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jim Webb of Virginia voting with the Republicans, banned the Pentagon from buying alternative fuels or building any facilities to manufacture them “if the cost exceeds the cost of traditional fossil fuels used for the same purpose.”
I would advise anyone here not to trust any of the polling data that comes out this week showing PBO “losing ground” or in “dead heat” or any of that nonsense. Here’s an analogy to illustrate what’s REALLY going on… Back in the day, the Negro League Baseball players beat the crap out of the discriminatory, no Blacks allowed all white “American” League Baseball teams on a regular basis. Yet, the game the Black ball players won “didn’t count” because they were Black and was written off as nothing more than “exhibitions”.
Hence, the demented, Jim Crow-ish mentality of Today’s GO(T)P when conceptulaizing President Obama. To them, he doesn’t count because he’s just a… well, you know… to them and therefore, has no validity twhatsoever no matter how much he accomplishes… or beats them down on FACTS because of it.
This is the demented reality we’re living in Ladies and Gentleman. The pundits can spin all they want, but THAT is the bottom line. “Superiority Complex” in full effect… and without guilt or shame. WHY? This is disgusting and needs some serious push back.
Criquet, this has been my beef. I am convinced that companies have been refusing to hire people in order to keep unemployment high and defeat President Obama. I say this because many companies are sitting on record profits. Their actions have emboldened the GOP to say NO to every job proposals advocated by President Obama. I wish we could identify companies that are deliberately doing this and boycott them. Personally, I’ve made every effort to boycott Koch paper products –ranging from paper plates to toilet paper. I am determined to do all I can to stop spending my meagre dollars on companies that could care less about me.

Okay, in September of 2008 I flew out to Las Vegas on the “Great Schlep” sponsored by the comedian Sara Silverman, to convince my 70 something parents to vote for President Obama after Hillary lost in the Primary.. They did vote for PBO. Lately they have been watching a little too much CNN and Wolf and were questioning their vote. I just got off the phone with them for a family visit….they brought up politics and boy, are they mad. I have never heard my mother so angry about what is going on the in the GOP. They are now convinced they are going to vote for PBO again , this time they are in their 80′s. I am still going out in October to make sure…I love changing planes during my trips. I have many more opportunities to “Barack The Vote”! I love passing out stickers in the airports. Best time I had during an election.

with a suggested question for Mitt Romney, bearing on when he was and was not responsible for the plans and decisions of Bain Capital:
If you weren’t in charge at Bain in 1999-2001, who was? If Mitt Romney had ‘retroactively’ retired — who was ‘proactively’ managing Bain Capital? Just a simple name — or a committee would do. (Next question, why wasn’t this person listed on the SEC forms?)
I’ve worked in corporate life for >35 years and always knew who was “in charge”. I’m sure Romney knows who was in charge at Bain during the time in question. After all this is the company that he founded.
Answering this simple question would clarify matters greatly. (BTW – “the person in charge” of a company is not supposed to be a secret. This isn’t the Sopranos you know.

I haven’t heard anyone in the media make the point why Romney’s poor response to the Bain capital issue is so damning: In effect, Romney is saying that he should get a pass for what Bain did in his “absence” because he wasn’t running the company at the time (even though he was technically still its CEO), and/or that he should get a pass for telling the SEC that he was CEO of the company for three years while he had passed off those duties to others because he didn’t actually exercise control.
The Obama campaign mistakenly focused on whether that makes him a liar or a criminal. In my opinion, the more damning conclusion comes from accepting Romney’s story at face value. If he can’t deal with two big issues at the same time, and [won't] take responsibility for what is done on his behalf (by those he chose to act on his behalf–because he was the sole owner of the company), how can he possibly be competent to be President of the United States
