Wow……..while I have an early chance – It’s so nice to come here and read everyone’s thoughts. I fear I have to agree with the person who thot the “take off your shirt” call was disrespectful; altho our little family gets close to that line sometimes. I also agree with wondering why a baby and a 6yo is at a midnight movie. I read yesterday somewhere that Rush had talked about that movie in relation to our President, so it would not surprise me if that had something to do with it.
Finally it’s cool here in Chicago, so enjoy that TOD Chicago people. To everyone else – enjoy your day too.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Aurora, CO. May they find some measure of comfort despite the senseless and horrific tragedy that occurred.
Statement by President Barack Obama on the Shooting in Colorado
Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado. Federal and local law enforcement are still responding, and my Administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time. We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded. As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family. All of us must have the people of Aurora in our thoughts and prayers as they confront the loss of family, friends, and neighbors, and we must stand together with them in the challenging hours and days to come.
Air Force One, the President’s Boeing 747, is parked this morning at Palm Beach International Airport awaiting Obama’s departure after a rally last night at Century Village.
President Obama spoke to some 700 supporters at the retirement community in suburban West Palm Beach and then spent the night at The Ritz-Carlton in Manalapan.
This morning, however, has taken on a very somber tone with news of the shootings at a movie theater in Colorado. In the last hour, Obama released a statement regarding the tragedy:
Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado. Federal and local law enforcement are still responding, and my Administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time. We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded. It is unclear if he will make a public statement as well before taking off. That departure had been scheduled for 9:20 a.m.
Morning, everyone. Thoughts, prayers and sympathies to the people of Aurora, CO. There are moments where you shake your head and wonder what the hell is going on with our country, and there are days where the best of humanity shines through. I believe such humanity does, and always will, prevail at the end.
Everything is back to normal, McCain is on tv bashing the President! Nothing to see here, move along, move along!

Good morning all! Yes, I was shocked to get up to see that there was a horrible shooting in Aurora. But quite honestly, I don’t expect ANYTHING to happen to change this. Every damn time there’s a shooting everyone says how tragic it is, yet the NRA, that corrupt and evil group, with the chokehold on Congress, will ensure that nothing changes with respect to Gun Laws! I’m so sick of this obsession with guns. This will CONTINUE to happen, until people stop being morons about guns. It’s sad, but it’s true.
NOTHING in our system or laws has changed, it’s gotten worse. So yes, it’s very sad and tragic, and it WILL HAPPEN AGAIN in future.
Even worse, there will be those who will say that had people been allowed to carry heat, this would not have happened. Others will blame popular culture. I prefer to put blame where blame belongs: On the shooter.
Yes, the blame belongs to the shooter first and foremost and to one lily-livered Congress after another that has bowed its head to the NRA. Add to that 24-hour hate-filled media, throw in sick, evil, disgusting and paranoid creeps like this guy and you have the toxic mess that is the USA. Other countries manage to control firearms, why can’t we.
Hello pinkbunny, Good morning Chips, TOD, everyone. Thanks UT for posting PBO’s statement. My thoughts go out to the victims and injured families and loved ones of the Colorado shooting. May they find peace and comfort to help them through this difficult time.
Civilized, socialized, educated, responsible, caring people do NOT WANT TO and WILL NOT bring a goddamn fucking gun to a public place. A movie theater? Schools? Your church? GMAFB!! (And you KNOW I’m not talking about law enforcement.) So with rediculously lax gun laws it’s just the mentally ill, slightly to extremely disturbed, hero-complex, bully-complex, alienated, disgruntled gun worshiping insecure, pathetic shitbags that show up with their arsenal of semi-automatic death and maiming devices equipped with high capacity clips that SHOULD NOT – - – NOT BE EASILY AVAILABLE. It really is an insane state of affairs for an “advanced” society.
Similar situation happened in Toronto a few days ago at a neighborhood block barbecue, young people killed. Hearing the screams for even tighter gun control laws here.

Surprise, Mitt Romney is palling around with economic terrorist in London leaked to the LIBOR SCANDAL. Yes these are his blunders.
Romney “Goes for the Gold” in London’s LIBOR Village
LONDON — In fairness to Mitt Romney, he did not schedule his $75,000-a-plate money grab at the altar of international finance when he heard that — via the LIBOR bank-rate scandal — Londoners were practicing his kind of crony capitalism.

Me-thinks R-money could have cancelled this fundraiser. As “you people” ( to quote Queen Anne) know Romney has absolutely not one ounce of integrity. His only interest is the corrupt 1% he palls around with. President Obama, on the other hand, cares about the middle class and the American people. What a contrast.

No babysitters or can’t afford one, no family nearby willing to babysit. I’ve seen kids out with their parents late at nightt; that’s common assault as my late mother would say.
Please can the victims not be blamed for being there. Better that families go out together than leave young children home alone. Babes will sleep though almost anything, The babe is fine – parents went to hospital to make sure.
Not blaming victims but sorry—-you don’t go out with babies and young children to a midnight movie. It would not even occur as a possibility to decent parents. If you don’t have child care, you don’t go. Period.
Please. Yes. The people whose children were shot will be glad to know that that they’re not decent parents. We know nothing about these people. Nothing. And nobody deserves to be shot — not even a little bit. (Too much like analyzing the clothing of a rape victim. Why was she wearing such a short skirt? In such a neighborhood. A decent woman would stay at home.)
Sorry….but this is a hot button issue for me.
One of my brohters lives in Aurora, tells of hearing sirens in the night, is learning of the tragedy this morning. His lovely son, my nephew, is away at present, or likely would have been there with friends. We all must keep Light and Prayer in motion today, and every day.

How disturbing to wake up to such ugly news. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families as well as the community. Take a look at the faces of the men behind Romney in the 3rd video. There is not one smile or female in the bunch. Very telling if ti ask me.
Before I say anything I send my prayers to the families affected by the shooting in Colorado
May God have mercy on the souls of those who died
May God heal those who got hurt
May the victims and their families find comfort in God and may He give them the courage, in the hours, days, weeks, months and years ahead.

A top economist at the International Monetary Fund has poured scorn on its “tainted” leadership and said he is “ashamed” to have worked there.
Peter Doyle said in a letter to the IMF executive board that he wanted to explain his resignation after 20 years.
He writes of “incompetence”, “failings” and “disastrous” appointments for the IMF’s managing director, stretching back 10 years.
No one from the Washington-based IMF was immediately available for comment.
Mr Doyle, former adviser to the IMF’s European Department, which is running the bailout programs for Greece, Portugal and Ireland, said the Fund’s delay in warning about the urgency of the global financial crisis was a failure of the “first order”.
Per my math, there are ~25 people named James Holmes in Denver metro. So careful unless you have info specifically IDing alleged shooter.— Nate Silver (@fivethirtyeight) July 20, 2012
Maybe he’s warning against such things as ABC fingering a local teapartier named Jim Holmes and then having to apologize. The 24/7 news cycle is all about getting it first, not getting it right. (CNN and the Supreme Court decision on ACA is a perfect example.)
DRUDGE report also said that the shooter is a registered Democrat. Mayor Bloomberg tweeted that President Obama and Mitt Romney should now make statements about what they are going to do for Gun control. I don’t think Nate was thinking about Bloomberg or Drudge when he tweeted his comments. My point is that he seems to be advocating caution only for one set of people and not for the others.
I don’t see that — I think Nate’s tweet was advising against a rush to judgment, which has already happened. He doesn’t mention Drudge or Bloomberg or anyone else.
No he’s not a tea bagger. But he’s towing the GOP Corporate Media line by protecting their interests as a NYT employee. And if the NRA is lobbying the GOP Corporate Media to keep any details of the shooter’s identity under wraps, Little Nate will comply.
The fact that the FBI is involved tells me that this shooting is possibly politically motivated. I agree we shouldn’t speculate too much and let the information come out. But I find it curious that Little Nate, who is a “numbers” guy just comes right out with caution for this incident.
FBI is always involved whenever there is a mass shooting, killing many people.
I happen to agree with Nate on this one.
Brian Ross of ABC was speculating this morning. I respect Brian Ross, but I cringed when I read his comments with Stephenapolous. Once we know for sure who this murderer is, then let the chips fall where they may.
Nena I’m not disagreeing with Nate at all. I fully agree that there shouldn’t be any speculation one way or the other until all the facts are known.
But what I’m expressing, is a curiosity about why Nate seems to be so invested in how this shooter might be portrayed and possibility that this event may be politicized. Nate is someone who deals with polling data and numbers and rarely gets out ahead in front of a tragedy to deal with political speculation, but here he seems rather invested. That’s the point I’m making.
actually his advice is sensible. Everybody should be careful – if there is a political link I wouldn’t put it past right wing crazies to blame PBO for inciting it all. let’s just all wait and see
My point is not about the sensibleness of his advice. I agree we should not speculate. My point is that Nate seems to be invested in this in a way that is uncharacteristic for someone who’s just a “poll cruncher.”
Interestingly, NYC Mayor Bloomberg is also politicizing this issue – by demanding that President Obama and Mitt Romney both come out now and say how they will deal with gun control.
So how is Rush Limbaugh, who likened the plot of Dark Knight with its character Bane to a plot by Obama against Romney reacting to this shooting? Is he all happy? Perhaps this shooter listens to Rush on a daily basis, eh Rush? Is he one of your people?
People who listens to Limbaugh is filled with rage and by listening to him day in, day out is very destructive. Some people actually believes this filth and they seems to borderline with a mental defect and they are not capable of separating truth from lies.
They can’t help themselves as if they need a steady diet of propaganda.
I used to work with a guy who would listen to Limbaugh and he would try to engage others in his nonsense, therefore creating an atmosphere of tension. We would have to ignore him because he would try to engage and incite hostility. We just called him sick and in need of some serious medical attention. You always have to look over your shoulder at these individuals.
It is very sad that the shooter decides to pick up a gun to kill innocent people minding their business.
I tell you guys, you and Chips are the best! I only learned of the tragedy because of this site. Thanks.
My condolences to the families in CO. You all continue to press your way. A battle is raging. FORWARD!
PHOENIX—Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio says he’s shocked by comedian George Lopez’s profanity-laced tirade against him.
Lopez made the comments about the top cop of Maricopa County during the debut of his solo stand-up special, “George: It’s Not Me, It’s You,” which aired Saturday on HBO.
Arpaio says he had been watching the show but changed the channel before Lopez directed curse words at him. The sheriff known for his tough stance on illegal immigration says he was shocked that the comments weren’t part of a joke.
NEW YORK—New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is calling on President Barack Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney to respond to the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., by detailing their plans to improve gun control.
Bloomberg said in his weekly WOR Radio appearance Friday that “soothing words are nice.” But he said it’s time to hear the presidential candidates “stand up and tell us what they’re going to do about it.”
Bloomberg heads up a coalition of American mayors who support tighter gun control. The group has lobbied for stronger enforcement of existing laws meant to prevent criminals and the mentally ill from buying weapons.
Bloomberg says the attack in a suburban Denver movie theater is a reminder that gun violence isn’t just an inner-city, big-city phenomenon.
Is Bloomberg trying to stir up some political dust? What political affiliation is he right now, republican or democrat? To throw this is now, seems to me somewhat calculating and, as Meta suggests, pointless unless he has some ulterior motive.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Mayor Bloomberg’s initiative to get guns off the street is a noble and necessary endeavor, and I get that he has to weigh in because of that, but this just reeks of politics and bad timing. Just say “hearts and prayers, time and place,” and move on until the facts are in.
Also the corrupt SCOTUS will overturn anything that this congress does to curtail guns and whatever the president signs. The Corporate Five are in the pockets of the NRA.
Hi Chips & TODvillle! What does one say when faced with senseless tragedies like this? It’s so hard to wrap one’s head around deliberate harm being done to unknown folks for no reason. (Smh)
Our hashtag today is…Ta da! #PBOsGotThisMitt
FOCUS = Education; Energy+ WHATEVER IS TOPICAL (ex: Jobs might be it today)
———————————————–
Today we are ‘refreshing’ our hashtag by tossing #CanMittMatchThis? into cyber ‘garbage’ and debuting #PBOsGotThisMitt – a PurpleShoes Inc. creation (PS Inc. made several excellent suggestions, among them the point that we shorten the hashtag. Thanks PS! )
It seems a workable idea to change our hashtag each week WHILE BEING RELENTLESS IN OUR INTENT TO GET THIS ADMIN’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS MENTIONED OVER AND OVER!
ChristiM also suggests that we use a comparison hashtag, ex: #4thepeople4the1%
(example) President Obama wants to protect Medicare; Romney wants to privatize medicaire [with added proof, of course! We’ll be able to find lots of stuff in Mitt’s own words.[
These are some excellent suggestions, and, I think, they provide our TOD community the chance to be unified in our diversity [or diversified in our unity? ] There is no doubt that we can have greater impact if we work together, just as there is no doubt that although we have the same end goal, we bring our intensity to different aspects of it.
Let’s continue to get our message out, media team ….ith facts, and love and determination! As Pres O says repeatedly, ‘we are one people’!

Now that President Obama has cancelled his campaign schedule and tv ads in state until Monday, will Romney continue on as usual? He has an event scheduled for12:10 today. It would be unseemly under these circumstances to bash the President of the United States. Will he? If he can’t, what will he say?
I think Michelle’s events would be okay. She doesn’t engage in politics, just details what her husband has done.
Have mercy. America — home of the guns. SMDH. May all the victims rest in peace, and by some chance may we as a country wake up and demand justice and sanity.

Why am I not surprised? On the other hand, the fact that PBO would cancel all appearances out of respect for the families in Aurora (which has the unintended positive benefit of ceding the floor to the loons like Gohmert, showing further proof that the GOP has gone ape-nuts) reinforces my belief that we have a great, kind and compassionate president.

David corn is doing a good job, bit it’s MIT breaking through. He should have sat on this for awhile!
I am so sick of these horrible shootings in the US. It’s outrageous. What were children and infants doing at a midnight showing of a movie???
It is a comic book story PG-13.
But at midnight? Infants, 6 year olds?
No babysitters or can’t afford one, no family nearby willing to babysit. I’ve seen kids out with their parents late at nightt; that’s common assault as my late mother would say.
Many comic books are geared towards teenagers and adults.
Please can the victims not be blamed for being there. Better that families go out together than leave young children home alone. Babes will sleep though almost anything, The babe is fine – parents went to hospital to make sure.
I wasn’t blaming any one at all, simply questioning. We’ll just have to disagree on the appropriateness of taking an infant to a midnight movie.
Not blaming victims but sorry—-you don’t go out with babies and young children to a midnight movie. It would not even occur as a possibility to decent parents. If you don’t have child care, you don’t go. Period.
Dotster that’s how I was raised too.
I blame the guy doing the shooting. I blame the NRA who allow any dam crazy idiot to get any kind of weapon they want.
Please.
Oh, goodness. My heart goes out to your family and his community. Senseless, senseless tragedy.
My heart is breaking for them. Jesus.

There’s also a breakdown of who/how donations are being made! Pass it on …
Done…and thanks. This is an easy way for some of my politically inactive, but PBO-supporting folks to make a difference.
President will discuss this at 11:20!
He will probably have to make a trip to CO within the week.
No doubt he will want to make that trip..
Movie theatre and schools i guess should have metal detectors?
How disturbing to wake up to such ugly news. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families as well as the community. Take a look at the faces of the men behind Romney in the 3rd video. There is not one smile or female in the bunch. Very telling if ti ask me.
good morning TOD family
Before I say anything I send my prayers to the families affected by the shooting in Colorado
May God have mercy on the souls of those who died
May God heal those who got hurt

Wow, THANKS. I didn’t see this yesterday.
Where does this President find the time to do all of this?

Syrian banks are running out of money. This is a very explosive situation.
Fearful that this might not bode well for the GOP/Tea Party/Romney, etc Little Nate does not want this tragedy to be political…
Yes, Nate we know that. What are you afraid of?
Tell Nate the shooter’s mother already is identified…..and on her way to Colorado.
I am not a Nate Silver fan but I think it’s wise to wait and see who we are dealing with here.
Me thinks Nate is a tea bagger!
On his original blog he admitted to being democrat leaning – I used to enjoy it. Changed when he went to the Times.
actually his advice is sensible.
FORWARD!
There’s a great editorial in The Des Moines Register today from an Iowa nun praising PBO’s work with the ACA – entitled “Obama Represents Good Catholic Values”. I wish more could hear her words instead of the lies told by Mitt and “friends”.

Oh f**k off, arpaio.

———————————–
Me: As long as the NRA calls the tune, I doubt we’ll have the conversation…
Yes, Bloomberg, time to raise absolutely unreasonable expectations impossible to fulfill in this NRA dominated Congress and culture.
…not to mention make all of those baseless scare tactics GOP charges of Obama wants to take your guns away true.
———————————————–
)
Thanks PS!
Over at HuffPuff….they posted this exact tweet under a heading that says :
” Obama Campaign Holding Negative Ads In Colorado Until Monday ”
Negative ads ? I am seeing positive ads here in Atlanta
Didn’t you get the memo, Linda? Negative ad now means ads that share truth that does not praise Willard.
That’s such Frustrating BULLSHIT. willard is A NEGATIVE.
Romney has canceled his ads as well. Don’t know if anything else is changed.
Have mercy. America — home of the guns. SMDH. May all the victims rest in peace, and by some chance may we as a country wake up and demand justice and sanity.
Jessica Ghawi, an aspiring sports journalist from Texas, who escaped Toronto’s Eaton Centre shooting in June, has reportedly died in a mass shooting at a “Batman” screening in Aurora, Colorado, her family confirms
Ghawi, who tweets using the handle @JessicaRedfield, was apparently one of 12 killed in the Friday night shooting at Aurora, Colorado’s Century Aurora 16 Movie Theater, the London Evening Standard reported.

GM TOD….I was shocked to get up and read about the CO shootings this morning. My son went to the midnight show with a friend last night…though not in CO, it gave me pause, to say the least.I am thinking of those that lost their lives and those that have been injured in this senseless tragedy. Yet again. An to make my blood boil even more…I read what the crazy, unhinged, incompetent congressman Louie Gohmert said about this today….are you ready? Someone here said this would happen…..he said this:

WTFH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep. Another dozen guns in that theatre (which was filled with smoke) would have been just the ticket!
