Hi PFI, did I get here before you? Ah….. ;)
Yesss!
VC! I have video of AF1 flying over downtown Seattle! I waved and waved!
Good! You waved twice, so I know one time was for me. ;) Happy Wednesday, Pamela.
I might have waved more than twice! HaHa!
Hellooooooooo VC! Big sorries to all the firsters I’ve missed lately, normal service will be resumed soon-ish!
I love the video of FLOTUS talking about the family.
Awww! I hadn’t seen this one before! She looks like she’s got her comfort covered! :)
Kids just know. THEY KNOW!! They are drawn to his honesty, his love, his fairness. KIDS KNOW!!
I just love how comfortable this little girl is with Pres. Obama. She’s just hangin’ out with her president.
Aaaah! Sigh! / a sigh of complete relaxation - a letting-go sigh which says ‘My President has me ..in his arms’ :lol:/
Thanks, CC!
That is so precious, I can’t stand it!
FRAK - I’m still on the other page - bringing this over….
I believe the more we can reinforce the truth that #Mittiot is a compulsive LIAR and will LIE about every fucking thing in the universe, the less people will want him anywhere near the Oval Office, and understand that anything negative he says about the POTUS, is complete FICTION.
I also want the people to associate liar with mitt theentitled pathological serial liar and out-sourcer in chief..
I never mention mitt without reminding people that he is certifiable liar.
I wish the media could call him out about his unashamed and continous lying abour EVERYTHING
oh good grief I’m wandering around over on the last thread. well back to work i guess! Have a great day folks!
We are si blessed to have a President and Vice-President that looks out for us.
Yay! It’s Joey B time.
Love Joe!

Rudy Giulani, ex New York Mayor said that Mitt Romney has no core.
Mitt Romeny was not held in high regard by his opponents in the 2008 GOP primaries. They are doing the party unity thing now, but back then they and their staffs did not hide their dislike for him.

Romney’s Foreign Policy Debut
By Andrew Sullivan
—————————–
The speech could have been written by wingnut bloggers. The aggressive chest-thumping, the contempt for the president, and the lack of any actual engagement with a complicated, dangerous world where specific and hard choices have to be made: all made this seem like a campaign rally for Christianists and neocons, rather than a guide to the future.
Does Romney really believe, for example, that strong, public rhetorical support from the White House would have helped the Green Movement rather than, as the Greens insisted, hurt them? Does he seriously want to increase defense spending massively, while cutting taxes on the wealthy and cutting the debt? Would he intervene in Syria? Would he have extended our stay in Iraq; and does he want to stay in Afghanistan after 2104? I have no idea from this speech. All I know is that everything Obama has done has been a failure; that he deserves an “F” in foreign policy; and that Russia is our global foe and Iran our darkest threat. But one also senses, as Drezner does, that most of it is cynical domestic base politics:

Among competing jobs plans, it’s not even close
By Steve Benen
——————————
There is, however, a problem. As Erin Mershon reported yesterday, the Republican job bills don’t actually create jobs.
.
.
Macroeconomic Advisers wasn’t quite as optimistic, but its analysis projected that the White House plan “would give a significant boost to GDP and employment over the near-term.” The firm would expect to see the proposal create at least 1.3 million jobs.
On the other hand, we have the 32 bills passed by House Republicans — the GOP did not subject their measures to independent economists for some reason — which we now see wouldn’t make much of a difference at all.
GOP lawmakers still claim credibility on job creation — and are convinced the president isn’t to be taken seriously — but they’re apparently not paying close enough attention.

Top of the Day O-sters! A great getting up record setting hot day in the Chicago side of TODtown. I just caught up on all the previous threads since I was last on TODtubz.
I really have to smh at what I call MSM derange syndrome. Micheal Eric Dyson is a GUEST host, not an asshole just because he didn’t argue with an unreasonable person, while keeping someone’s seat warm. Moanin’ Jerk, is an asshole, but we all knew that when we turn on the TV box in the mornings. Clarence Page is a PBO supporter, but he is also a legitimate news journalist, unlike, many you’ll see. He may have said something unpopular around here, but we know whose side he’s on. His trip had nothing to do with anything. Chuck Todd will crunch numbers anyway he see fits, sometimes positive for us, other times not so much. Mark Knoller and any other twitterer, pundit, or otherwise media personality are at work earning their living, while we gnash and bash. Guess what? At the end of their work shift they go home to their family, enjoy their lives, and get back at it the next day. They get paid big bucks to do this. I doubt they are too concerned with heads exploding over something they said.
OK, rant off O peeps. I had to say it though, cause I value what we can bring to the table when we serve up calls to action, reality based verifiable information, and GOTV ideas and stories.
My political take today is if emotions are running this high in July, many will be a puddle of quivering jangled nerves by the end of October. At least try and get through Labor Day and the debates before we let them tie our tummies in knots.
Amen to all that.
‘Top of the Day’ to you too, Cookemom and ‘THANKS!’
I also SEVERELY ‘value what we can bring to the table when we serve up calls to action, reality based verifiable information, and GOTV ideas and stories’ and don’t want us to give in to tummy worries before November.
Actually, I believe I noticed someone earlier suggesting a moratorium on division during the Olympics and it seemed like a very good (implied) suggestion to me. The Olympics provides a natural opportunity for patriotic union, an opportunity to recharge our positive batteries as well as our fighting spirit before heading into the home stretch - a suspension of deliberate partisanship, if you will. Of course this doesn’t mean we stop sharing information, just that we avoid inherently divisive STUFF.
Report: Adelson May Attend Romney Fundraiser In Israel
I have seen no criticism of Willard having fund raising events in London or Israel.
How is this shit LEGAL? Can someone explain this to me? Is is all PAC money?
And is there any reason why there isn’t outrage outside of our comfort zone about Romney raising FOREIGN money?!?!
If PAC’s are not required to name their donors I see no way to prevent foreign donors.
but….but…. I think it was august Justice Kennedy who said that would be the ONE THING that would render the CU decision a bad thing. But one of those RWNJ jackasses on the Supreme Court said they wouldn’t flood the airwaves, they would disclose out of the goodness of their hearts……
Effing jackasses. All of them.
I read that these events are for American citizens living abroad, so they may theoretically be legal.
Exactly, Bill! I also have an issue with Romney’s refusal to disclose his bundlers.
Pundits are too busy being outraged that President Obama’s campaign is being mean to Mitt, so they don’t have any outrage left for legitimate issues. Maybe tomorrow.
Jees, if PBO held a fundraiser in an Indian restaurant, they’d all be screaming that he took campaign money from India. God, I loathe Republicans and their complicit media.
I have a daughter/American citizen living and working in Germany at present. She votes with Democrats Abroad. There are many American citizens living abroad. They can donate. That is how I see the fund raisers in other countries as being legal. I do wonder if they check their passports for US Citizenship though. I also see that it can be easy to incorporate foreign moneys when there is no transparency.
I remember Sen. Obama running a very different campaign in ’08 from previous ones when he did not accept lobbyist donations. I also know that was true as my daughter I mentioned above was a lawyer in a big DC law firm and her boss told me he had tried to contribute to the Obama campaign and his check was sent back to him due to his wife having worked as a lobbyist.
woo hoo nice intro here for our VP :)
Bring ‘em on:
The Commission on Presidential Debates reveals the formats for the fall’s four 90-minute debates.
First presidential debate (October 3, 2012, University of Denver, Denver, CO)
The debate will focus on domestic policy and be divided into six time segments of approximately 15 minutes each on topics to be selected by the moderator and announced several weeks before the debate.
The moderator will open each segment with a question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a discussion of the topic.
Vice presidential debate (October 11, 2012, Centre College, Danville, KY)
The debate will cover both foreign and domestic topics and be divided into nine time segments of approximately 10 minutes each. The moderator will ask an opening question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a discussion of the question.
Second presidential debate (October 16, 2012, Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY)
The second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which citizens will ask questions of the candidates on foreign and domestic issues. Candidates each will have two minutes to respond, and an additional minute for the moderator to facilitate a discussion. The town meeting participants will be undecided voters selected by the Gallup Organization.
Third presidential debate (October 22, Lynn University, Boca Raton, FL)
The format for the debate will be identical to the first presidential debate and will focus on foreign policy.
On what does Gallup base its selection of “undecided voters” for 2nd debate? I’m genuinely curious.
Hi Xtine, I can only assume that Gallup defines an “undecided voter” as one who’s from Utah and wears a Romney 2012 tee
Damn, I need to go undercover to Gallup! Wear an R-Money 1865 tee! Oh, wait. Utah? Nada, no can do! :)
I don’t trust Gallup at all. The place is going to be packed with right wingers, hand selected and pre-armed with questions.
Gallup? GEEZE.
I wonder who the moderators will be? I’m nervous about the debates - so is Tweety because it will be possible for the Mittbot to memorise opening statements and it’s not like they can go back and forth at each other. I don’t think they get follow ups which is where Mittbot would be in big trouble. He has started practising his robotic answers already but if the fix is in by the pundits then they will spin it for a Romney win even if he performs just barely adequately. Let’s spread thr word that he has been practising feverishly for months and that we expect a stellar performance for him - let’s elevate expectations - it will make it harder for the media to cheer if he falters.
My fear about the debates: Mitt will get of a one-line zinger and that’s all anyone will talk about.
In 2008, dKos was instrumental at initial pushback after the debates, with lists of online polls, etc. that can significantly affect the initial response to polls. I have always believed that that coordinated response had a lot to do with how the polls were perceived, as opposed to all of us contemplating our navels in 2000, sure that Gore had won a debate, only to find that there was no coordinated response from our side to push back on the odious Karen Hughes and her ilk.
I don’t know if we can count on dKos to do that this time, so we should have our own ‘rapid response’ team from TOD with links, etc. so we can get our voices out there asap.
I’ll try to do my part, but seriously, by the time I figure out how to find the polls we need to link to, it will be 2016.
All I’m saying is, let’s be prepared. Someone tells me how to do it, I’ll do my part.
That’s a great point. Why don’t we (if people here agree) try and co ordinate with some other sites - balloon juice, political carnival, jed lewison at dkos - basically anyone who is for pbo and will do the right thing. I think you are right - preparation and pushback is everything. We could even get advice from the Chicago office or OFA.
That is a FANTASTIC idea.
The People’s View would probably be a good one to connect with for factual info immediately after the debate.
57, I wouldn’t fret about Willard’s one-liners. By the time he delivers them he’ll have messed them all up. Tangled delivery of nonsensical words. Then he’ll have a total breakdown on national teevee! Hey, a woman can imagine! :)
On a serious note, totally agree w/ you on our pushback. We Will Do It!
one thing to remember about the MSM - they are lazy and they are followers. Their researchers get most of their info from blogs and other sources - I am certain so if we make a full on coordinated on line/twitter rapid response then it’s harder for them to ignore and will most likely parrot what they are getting from other sources.
It’s not Willard’s delivery, it’s what the media will do to push their memes.
It was the instant response to the debates that made it impossible for the media to pretend that people didn’t hear and see exactly what they heard and said. That’s why we have to be prepared to push back, and push back hard.
It’s fine to react and say what is and isn’t true (because Mittens’ lips will be moving, therefore he’s lying). It’s about setting the NARRATIVE on OUR terms. Instant polls, and lots of them, in every media market, make it far more difficult for the jackals to hijack and spin what actually happened.
What has pleased me about PBO’s campaign is that he’s setting the narrative, he’s not just reacting. He’s the one defining Mittens. We have to do the same thing with the debates. You’d be surprised how many people glance at them (if that) and then believe what they’re told by the media. Instant reaction from us sets that narrative.
A typical trick of the media is to lower expectations of the GOP candidate (remember Palin’s nonsensical debate?) and raise them for the experienced candidate. Then declare the one they want as the winner because they did better than expected. (Who expected is my question?)
Nail with a headache, OG! You hit that one hard!
Found here: http://www.c-span.org/uploadedFiles/Content/Documents/CPD-Announces-Debate-Formats.pdf
“All debates will be moderated by a single individual and will take place from 9:00‐10:30 p.m. Eastern
Time. There will be no opening statements and two‐minute closing statements in all the debates. In
all the debates except town meeting, the CPD recommends that the candidates be seated at a table
with the moderator. Moderators will be selected and announced in August.”
So there won’t be any opening or closing statements, but…
Moderators will be selected and announced in August. In addition, the CPD is undertaking an innovative internet‐based voter education program that will encourage citizens to become familiar with the issues to be discussed in the debates, and to share their input with the debate moderators in advance of the debates. The program, which will be announced later this month, will be led by a coalition of internet leaders.
(Commission Co-Chairmen, Frank J.) Fahrenkopf (Jr.) and (Michael D.) McCurry said that the formats reflect extensive study by the CPD board of directors: “There are serious issues facing this country and the public has the right to expect a serious examination of those issues during this fall’s debates. The CPD believes this can be accomplished best by focusing big time blocks on major domestic and foreign topics…
*** HERE’S THE KICKER *** “…The topics will be selected and announced in advance of the debates by the debate moderators.”
Making it easier for the GOP to “palinize” Romney in advance of the debates. What a farce!
I know! Right?

Ezra Klein And Mitt Romney Make Affirmative Case For Barack Obama’s Jobs Record
by Tommy Christopher
—————————————-
Most of Mitt Romney’s attacks on President Obama’s jobs record have relied on saddling the President with the millions of jobs that were lost in the months immediately following his inauguration, attacks which have been abetted by the Beltway media’s acceptance of the notion that the crater left by the Bush administration should simply wink out of existence when evaluating Obama’s performance. However, Klein points out that in an interview with CNBC’s Larry Kudlow, Mitt Romney offered a different yardstick to measure the next administration’s performance.
“We ought to give whichever president is going to be elected at least six months or a year to get those policies in place,” Romney told Kudlow.
.
.
The press needs to point out that it was Republicans like Mitt Romney who fought tooth and nail to make sure the President couldn’t do more of what clearly worked.

Fox meme gets Cool Blasted
By Kent Jones

As my esteemed colleague Steve Benen pointed out earlier, President Obama is pushing back against the Romney campaign’s thoroughly bogus “you didn’t build it” attacks.
This hasn’t stopped Fox and Friends from putting on two adorable little girls who run a lemonade stand to further their meme. Here’s a back-and-forth between host Brian Kilmeade and the 7-year-old CEO of Cool Blast Lemonade of Texas, Clara Sutton:

The man accused of killing a dozen people at a midnight screening of the ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ sent a journal detailing the rampage to a University of Colorado psychiatrist prior to the attack, only for it to go untouched in a campus mailroom, according to a Fox News report.
The diary of 24-year-old James Holmes — “full of details about how he was going to kill people” — was discovered Monday by authorities investigating another package at the school’s Anschutz medical campus in Aurora, a law enforcement official told the network. The source also said that the package had been in the mailroom since July 12.
The notebook, intended for a psychiatrist who also teaches at the university, reveals haunting sketches with stick-figure assailants carrying out the attack.
“There were drawings of what he was going to do in it — drawings and illustrations of the massacre,”

It sat in the mail room for a week ?
To think that this could have been avoided is absolutely sickening.
Given that this guy is very intelligent and apparently an excellent planner, this could very well have been part of his planning! Look at what he did in his apartment!
Mrs. Greenspan is “excited” about hearing Willard’s interview tonight with Brian Williams. Wonder if Brian Williams will ask Willard about his lying with the “you didn’t build that” rubbish remark. If he does not ask Willard to explain himself I will lose all respect for BW.
I lost all respect for Brian Williams after the President’s election. He is just another RW nut job.
Yep.

Both candidates spoke to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno, Nev., earlier this week, laying out their foreign policy priorities for the next four years.
Michele Flournoy, Co-Chair of the National Security Advisory Committee for Obama for America, and Rich Williamson, Senior Adviser for Foreign and Defense Policy for Romney for President, Inc., discussed their candidates’ foreign policy perspectives, including the public perception of the candidates’ stances on Iran and Israel.

video from “Women Vote” for a candidate in Hawaii
In case anyone wants to contribute, she’s on the Emily’s List Candidate Spotlight page:
http://emilyslist.org/what/reaching_women_voters
————————————
A little about Emily’s List
WOMEN VOTE!
At EMILY’s List, we do more than just talk about women voters. We talk to them, we learn from them, and we help to mobilize them — because we know that women voters often determine the outcome of elections. Women tend to favor Democratic candidates, so when women vote, Democrats win. But when they stay home, as they did in 1994, Republicans win.
That’s why we launched WOMEN VOTE! in 1995 — to harness the power of the gender gap and get women voters to the polls.
WOMEN VOTE! integrates sophisticated research, advanced information technology, and old-fashioned grassroots organizing to turn out women voters for our pro-choice Democratic women candidates and every Democrat on the ticket. Today EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE! is the nation’s most massive voter mobilization strategy designed specifically for women voters.
“The truth is that women voters are not a special interest or a constituency group, but the predominant set of voters who decide elections. There are few places where a Democratic candidate can win without the support of women. As is the case in the workplace, at home and, increasingly, in halls of power, women do make the difference — and will determine Democrats’ fate in 2012.” Lisa Grove, Grove Insight
Women We Helped Elect
http://emilyslist.org/who/women_we_helped_elect
EMILY’s List wins elections. Since our founding, we have helped elect 87 pro-choice Democratic women members of Congress, 16 senators, 9 governors, and hundreds of women to state and local office.
EMILY’s List has also become one of the largest financial resource for minority women seeking federal office.
Ugh - I just watched a video of Fox news where someone named Bob Beckel actually attempts to say they were wrong to take PBO’s quote out of context and he was CLEARLY referring to “you didn’t build roads, etc”. The other four gleefully jumped all over him - kind of like smirking jackels. Some blond named Dana (W’s press sec’y??) quoted the WSJ about diagramming the sentence and how the word “that” was clearly closer to the word “business”, so that’s what he meant “since PBO is such a gifted orator” and sat back with a satisfied smirk. One of the other idiots started in with PBO “always does this…” - but I turned it off.
To quote somebody in TOD a few days/weeks/months ago - now my brain needs a shower. I just can’t believe people watch this garbage regularly:

Every time I see her I think of the time she was W’s Press Secretary and did know what the Bay of Pigs was.
That was it! I was trying to remember.
The idea of those idiots understanding how to diagram a sentence is a hoot.
Because they didn’t….
The funniest thing I ever hear Bob Beckel say was that the Republicans were “BIRTHERS, BAGGERS AND BLOWHARDS.” That about sums it up.
Sums them up quite nicely.
Retired Justice O’Connor Testifies on Civics Education (video available)
http://www.c-span.org/Events/Retired-Justice-O39Connor-Testifies-on-Civics-Education/10737432577/
——-
After retiring from the Supreme Court, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has advocated for more civics education, and argues that it will protect an independent judiciary.
Justice O’Connor highlighted the difference between judges who are appointed and elected, saying that any judge who must run for re-election will need to fundraise for that campaign, and that she believes that fundraising can have a corrupting effect on the judiciary. Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) noted that in Vermont, as in the federal judiciary, judges are appointed by elected officials, which he believes is the best system.
The retired justice highlighted the system in her home state, Arizona, which allows elected officials to appoint judges, and then after a number of years, voters can decide whether to retain the judges. Justice O’Connor said that this allowed voters to assess judges on the basis of their judicial record rather than their previous jobs as lawyers or politicians.
Through her organization, iCivics, she has sought to stimulate student interest in civics. The iCivics program is available to teachers free of charge and focuses on analytical problem solving. (http://www.icivics.org/)
The Senate Judiciary Committee hears testimony from the retired justice on this program, and how it relates to creating and maintaining an independent judiciary.
It is true that the teaching of civics has deteriorated in our schools. Back in the old days, when I used to waqlk 10 miles to school and back, uphill both ways, there was a real focus on civics, the Constitution, what it was and why it came to be, and the basics of how goernment works. Much of that has been lost. The Republicans really don’t want it taught, because they want an uneducated populace.
So true, japa!
She is a Rethuglican so she needs to complain to her stinking party. They are the party of ignorance for the 99% and that only the children of the wealthy are entitled to education.
She may be a Republican, but she has called out the current state of the party, she has expressed regret about the Bush v Gore decision and she said that Citizens United was wrongly decided.
I’ll never forgive her for Bush v. Gore. Never.
Senate leadership struck a deal for up-or-down votes on both Democrat and Republican tax plans at 4 p.m. Wednesday.…
One of the reasons McConnell said he agreed to the votes was because the results won’t hold any weight. Tax bills have to originate in the House and House Republicans are unlikely to accept the Democrats’ bill. The House will vote on tax measures next week.
Reid removed the last paragraph of the bill that said the House had to accept the Senate bill after McConnell objected.
Romney’s Bain case crumbles a bit more
By Greg Sargent
——————————————————
The Associated Press reports this morning that Mitt Romney “stayed in regular contact” with his partners at Bain in the months after the 1999 date that he has given as the time he left the company. The story also claims he “continued to oversee his partnership stakes even as he disengaged from the firm, personally signing or approving a series of corporate and legal documents through the spring of 2001.”
The story doesn’t move the ball too much, but it adds to the information that complicates his case that he bears no responsibility for any of the controversial Bain deals that took place during that period — and that he played “no role whatsoever” with the firm.

Do you or do you not approve of the outsourcing that was done in this period? Were you completely unaware that this was happening?
Were you for it or against it?

Carole King Supports President Obama - Join Rural Americans for Obama
I LOVE Carole King!
Me too. She’s written a pretty big part of the soundtrack of my life.
That is the PERFECT comment. I feel the same way. I have Tapestry in my car right now. Okay, it’s an old car, an old CD. But it makes me feel good.
“… it makes me feel good” — No matter how “old” the music is, if it speaks to you, that’s all that matters.
Heck, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy still gets me. :-)
Me, too! I have a Chopin waltz as my ring tone. Great music reminds me of the great potential of the human race.
That is just an excellent video … I love it; I love her message and her enthusiasm!
I woke up singing ‘So Far Away’ on Sunday. Stayed with me the entire day, but it wasn’t sad, it was lovely! And I can sing, well, sort of!

———————————
The Stew is profiling the most important political races to watch between now and election day. In addition to re-electing President Barack Obama to a second term, we are just as dedicated to restoring compromise and sanity to Congress by defeating the obstructionist Teapublicans who would rather satisfy their corporate handlers and circumvent Roe v Wade than create jobs, regulate Wall Street, or simply represent the common citizen.
We recently profiled the “Ten Senate Races to Watch” and now turn our attention to highlighting the Tea Party members in the House of Representatives and Senate that must be defeated. Our list will be revised, expanded upon, and fine-tuned in the weeks ahead. For now, here are the Top Five Teapublicans that must be booted out of congress on November 6:

Mittlympics: A Game of Taxes, Offshore Accounts and Contortion (VIDEO)
By Stew Steve

Mitt Romney is back on top and in charge of the games! See what happens when Mitt makes piles of money, avoids taxes and wants to lead the nation. Do you need to be a businessman to be an effective president?

Excellent!
Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday called a Mitt Romney adviser’s comment that the Republican candidate better understands the UK-USA relationship because of a shared “Anglo-Saxon heritage” — a notion Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul insisted was “not true” — a “disturbing start” to Romney’s foreign trip.
“The comments reported this morning are a disturbing start to a trip designed to demonstrate Governor Romney’s readiness to represent the United States on the world’s stage,” Biden said in a statement. “Not surprisingly, this is just another feeble attempt by the Romney campaign to score political points at the expense of this critical partnership. This assertion is beneath a presidential campaign.”
Earlier Wednesday, the Romney campaign disputed the anonymous “Anglo-Saxon heritage” quote reported in London’s Daily Telegraph.
“It’s not true,” Saul, Romney’s press secretary, said in an email to CBSNews.com. “If anyone said that, they weren’t reflecting the views of Governor Romney or anyone inside the campaign.”
Yet, I don’t see where they have asked the Telegraph to retract the statement.
I thought Romney was demanding apologies last week from President Obama, claiming that the President needed to take responsibility for anything said by anyone remotely connected to the Democratic party - even the true stuff.
It’s Major Yahoo Ed Henry, but this is priceless: “Romney adviser Richard Williamson today refers to Russia as the “Soviet Union” — bad timing with his candidate starting foreign trip ..”
Tweet that to Lis Smith!
That was at a Brookings forum with Michele Flournoy and this guy moderated by Marvin Kalb. Michele was defense undersecretary and quit at the first of the year. She was announced as being with the Obama campaign. She is good and she was there in the Situation Room when all the important stuff was debated. Here is the link to C-Span’s coverage of it.

President Obama will in his Wednesday speech to the National Urban League announce that he is creating a new initiative aimed at boosting African Americans’ academic achievement, a White House official said.
The president is set to say in his evening speech in New Orleans that he will sign an executive order on Thursday creating the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, which will coordinate efforts to harmonize programs for African American students.
The initiative, the official said in a statement, “aims to ensure that all African American students can receive an education that fully prepares them for high school graduation, college completion and productive careers.”
A similar program, for Hispanic students, was created in 1990 with an executive order signed by President George H.W. Bush. His three successors — including Obama — have signed orders to extend the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.
And RWNJ heads will explode.
japa21, if it were to explode it might be an improvement from what is there now. So here’s to exploding.
Those “Anglo Saxons” might not like that.
aloha and good morning chips and toddies!
i’ve been off the page for days, with computer viruses, and just catching up with all the juicy bits.
i’m still reeling over the ‘anglo saxon’ comments. can’t wrap my head around how a presidential candidate in the united states is getting away with this!! and it’s just dropped out of sight-pffft—like it never happened. isn’t this how hitler got his start? what’s wrong with the rethug establishment that they haven’t yanked this guy’s candidacy? they’d have more respect if they just didn’t field a candidate this year, seems to me.
and r’money’s financial shenanigans continue to unfold-now with the olympics-and underscore what a con man he truly is. federal money (which is actually tax dollars, collected from people who pay their taxes instead of hiding their money offshore) was used to pave roads and develop infrastructure in an area where r’money and some friends owned vacation properties-thus improving the area and increasing it’s resale value immensely.
and on and on.
meanwhile, our president, and first lady, and vice president, and so many fine public servants are working and fighting to pull this country out of the gutter the bushies kicked us into. in spite of all the garbage being thrown at him, president obama is standing tall, speaking to our hearts and minds, working for us every day.
also working for us every day are the wonderful folks here at the obama diary. so much info, so much hard work behind the scenes, so much collaboration and support and positivity and fight! thanks from all of us who aren’t right here every day saying how much this devotion means to us.
They are denying it!
If only the Russians would send tweet after tweet like this.

WASHINGTON — In a rare moment of bipartisanship, the House overwhelmingly passed a bill by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) to audit the Federal Reserve.
The bill, which has 270 co-sponsors, passed 327 to 98.
—-
Why would Democrats vote NO on this ?
The audit of the FED has a direct signature of TARP. That could open a whole new can of worms. Something YOU would not like!
Also, could effect future monetary policy!
But there already was an audit of that….
The first top-to-bottom audit of the Federal Reserve uncovered eye-popping new details about how the U.S. provided a whopping $16 trillion in secret loans to bail out American and foreign banks and businesses during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression
http://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/news/?id=9e2a4ea8-6e73-4be2-a753-62060dcbb3c3
This “audit the Fed” has a strong Libertarian feel to it. I don’t trust Ron Paul’s agenda one bit.
It is an attempt to get more political control over the Fed which many consider is bad. Remember Rick Perry’s warning for Bernanke not to come to Texas.
Factoid: The organization of the Fed was drafted at a meeting in Jekyll Island, GA in 1910.
half-joking, i think, we talked about the jobs created by all that super-pac money being the rethug’s contribution to improving the economy. bloomberg breaks it down a bit here.

Romney ‘Advisor’: Mitt Will Bring a White Man’s Touch
Josh Marshall
———————————-
A racial subtext certainly isn’t foreign to the Romney campaign’s critique of Barack Obama. But putting it so front and center may raise a few eyebrows.
What the London Daily Telegraph calls one of Romney’s “advisors” told the paper that Romney was better positioned to understand and respect the ‘special relationship’ between the US and Great Britain than President Obama, whose father was from Kenya.

Me thinks this is why Feinstein ran Her mouth. She was feeling the pressure of this paticular bill-
Senate panel passes measure to crack down on intelligence leaks
By Jeremy Herb
The measure would place restrictions on intelligence community members’ interactions with the media.
I always wondered why would she infer that the Whitehouse might have leaked intelligence information.
When you hear the quote, it’s even worse. She basically accused the White House of the leaks in a very challenging tone. That was no accident. And now she regrets it because she had no evidence to make such a claim - all the while knowing that the GOP don’t need evidence of a fire to actually shout “fire” in a crowded theater. So irresponsible.
the telegraph, a british newspaper, reports on bain’s associations with convicted criminals there-probably anglo saxons? one calls mitt ‘bloodless’, and ‘ the kind of person you admire but don’t like’.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/9413564/US-Election-2012-Mitt-Romney-fortune-built-with-help-from-Robert-Maxwell-and-Jack-Lyons.html
I do not admire him, nor do I like him. And I don’t even know him! (lucky me!)
There’s nothing to admire about Willard. Nothing.
Indeed.
go team bobfr!! more sleaze in another telegraph article below :)
UhOh! http://www.obamavolunteers.com/cutouts
Ha !….I should buy a life size one of the President…….
I have an employee that has a life size of Bush and who listens to Rush.
I could hit a home run with that comment, but I’m going to leave it alone.
No fair! Where’s the life size one of my Joey-B! :-)
Aww - even Bo has a cutout! :D
Joe Biden is presiding over the Senate during these votes. Do they anticipate they will need his vote?
Ooooo, good one!!!
He’s an “Anglo Saxon” so he doesn’t have to answer questions like that, besides, questions like that should only be asked in quiet rooms.
and anyway, you people have all the info you need.
Republican tax bill goes down 45-54.
I had rather watch Tweety than the women from Colombia and North Korea play soccer.
Why’s that Bill? :-)
Senate rejects Republican bill 45-54!
Democrats tax bill passed 51-48!
For talking points Only!!!
Biden chairing the Senate, just now!
YAY! Now it’s up to the House to pass the senate bill.
Which they won’t do. It appears some Republicans voted against the Republican bill. Anyone know who?
Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Scott Brown voted against the bill and one Dem, Pryor from AR voted with the TBGOPers.
And it will go to the house and die.
And that’s how they will lose their seats in congress. By holding the middle-class hostage once again.
Dem tax bill passes 51-48
I am also pleased they are taking up the cyber security bill!
No filibuster?
yikes! more from the telegraph:
One senior British colleague used an anecdote from a rare corporate gathering at his Massachusetts home at the end of the 1980s which he claims summed up Mr Romney’s character and management style.
“One of our wives was sick – she had been pregnant and the delivery had not gone well,” said the executive. “She had serious issues. Simultaneously, another wife of one of our colleagues had cancer.
“As the wife of the first man was leaving the house, she was struggling,” the former colleague recalled. “Mitt turned to her and said: ‘Buck up - you could be like her,’ pointing to the second woman.”
and more:

this was his ‘charm offensive’? offensive is right!
He’s just terrible. I don’t think I can survive three more months of exposure to that much rotten character! It’s just too much.
Senate just passes Obama Middle Class Tax Cut 51-48! Senate presided over by VP Joe Biden.
Who voted with the ReThugs, Manchin ?
Webb

When I right click on that link to open it in another window it says
” Democrats Find Their Spine “……….
Gawd I despise that kind of talk…..
LOL!
I’d rather have the soul of a Democrat, than the so-called “spine” of a Republican. And the truth is, the Republicans are just cowards - that’s why they hide behind guns and a big military, and bully smaller countries and people.
It was Pryor who voted with the TBGOPers for the top 1%.
Webb and Lieberman. Both are retiring and will be working on K Street.
It was NOT Webb nor Lieberman. It was Pryor from AR.
POLITICO reported Webb and Lieberman, maybe they were incorrect.
Pryor voted with the Republicans to extend the current rates for another year which failed but not with them for the final bill which passed.
It appears it was Pryor…..
Reid probably let them go knowing he had the votes.
Lieberman and Jim Webb.
Pryor
Ha! Do we need to break out the gloves, desertflower?
new study finds obamacare’s expanded medicaid coverage saves lives:
Until now, the Medicaid debate has been about budgets and states’ rights. But a statistical study by Harvard researchers in the New England Journal of Medicine found a 6 percent drop in the adult death rate in Arizona, Maine and New York, three states that have recently expanded coverage for low-income residents along the general lines of the federal health care law.

Mariel Zagunis named Olympic flag bearer for Team USA
http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/blog=olympic-talk/post/mariel-zagunis-named-flag-bearer-for-team-usa.html
Two-time defending sabre gold medalist Mariel Zagunis has been named flagbearer for the 529-member American team when they march into the stadium Friday night for the Opening Ceremony.
“I’m extremely humbled by this incredible privilege,” said the 27-year-old Zagunis, who was chosen by a vote of fellow Team USA members. “As an athlete, I can’t imagine a higher honor than to lead Team USA into the Olympic Games, which are the pinnacle of sport and a platform for world peace. I am tremendously proud to represent my sport, our team and, most importantly, the United States of America.”
“I’d like to congratulate Mariel on this tremendous honor,” said USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. “It’s especially fitting in the year of the 40th anniversary of Title IX, when Team USA for the first time in history has more women than men, that Mariel receive the extraordinary honor that is carrying our nation’s flag into this celebration of humanity.”

It’s not all bad news for her: She’s been hired by the Romney campaign!
Ha ha! I wouldn’t put it past them, Upstater.
OT, but have to post Happy Bday wishes to my mom, who is 95 yrs. old today! I am sad I can’t be with her, but she’s in Fl. and I’m in Illinois, I talked to her a bit ago, and she said she feels “wonderful”. She and her boyfriend are going out for din with my sis and bro-in-law. We should all be so fortunate—-to feel wonderful at 95 and to have a boyfriend at 95.
Happy Birthday dotster’s Mom! Go on with yo’ bad self! Still pulling at 95! I wanna be just like you when I grow up! ;-)
happy birthday to your mom, and congrats to your family! what a fine moment for all to remember!
That’s awesome, dotster!! Out to dinner with her boyfriend…and one daughter….that’s pretty wonderful stuff! Happy Birthday to her:)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOTSER’S MOM……..HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND ENJOY YOUR SPECIAL BIRTHDAY DINNER WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND (I am 56 with no boyfriend this birthday coming up).
Wolf Blitzer is going nuts because VP Biden commented on the Anglo-Saxon slur. No one is allowed to hurt Willard’s feelings.
And Dana Bash just said that the Democrats win the vote, but lost the political argument! They did?
The spin is amazing!
It’s weird, isn’t it? They can frankly discuss all manner of outrageous accusations against President Obama, but no one can question Willard about legitimate issues, real truths, without complaint from the media. Wonder why they’re so protective of Willard. It can’t be because he’s so nice and likable.
Can Bobfr please send one of your wonderful tweets to Wolf. He was really despicable. I know that he ill be interviewing the Mittiful pitiful Romney this weekend, but my goodness.
Question to Wolf, why didn’t the Romney lying camp ask for retraction? The Telegraph is not backing down on their report. So why would Wolf believe the denial by the Romney camp when distorting and lying are their MO?
Wolf Blitzer just said a new poll out says low turnout for AA spells doom for Obama.
Now what? The MSM has an answer fir everything.
Oh, and he is interviewing Ribney in Herusalem on Monday.
Milk this Foreign Trip much?
You see they can’t say nice things about pres Obama. So bitching and finding negativity is their game. This afternoon I was shocked when I heard Gloria Berger using “president” to address pres Obama. Then I found out why, she started calling Romney gov. They are so transparent, bias and really dishonest.
From Romney’s interview with Brian Williams tonight…
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/07/25/586611/romney-falsely-claims-colorado-gunman-obtained-weapons-illegally/
ROMNEY: Well this person shouldn’t have had any kind of weapons and bombs and other devices and it was illegal for him to have many of those things already. But he had them. And so we can sometimes hope that just changing the law will make all bad things go away. It won’t. Changing the heart of the American people may well be what’s essential, to improve the lots of the American people.
In fact, 24-year-old Holmes legally purchased every firearm, bullet, and piece of tactical gear that he used for the attack, according to local law enforcement. He bought most of it over the Internet. Mentally ill people are barred from purchasing firearms, but Holmes had no previous record of illness, and would not have been flagged in a background check.
Unfortunately, rather than addressing the inadequacies of the nation’s existing gun laws, Romney instead focused on “changing the heart of the American people” and successfully dodged the larger conversation about gun control.
Did he NOT KNOW THIS because????
well said, bob-this is the way to reframe the conversation!
If you check my TL, Susanne, you’ll see that that missive has been delivered to a wide variety of folk - some whom are likely not to laugh :D :D
Hell, I’m laughing Bob!! Outstanding work as always! :-D
Thanks friend :D :D :D
These 3 I’m particularly fond of …
And, yes, #BainMitt and dudes Cantor & Ryan along with a variety of #NEWSTAINERS have been duly informed of the crushing violation of Lord Norquist’s authority ;)
Nice:) Too bad we can’t send one to Lord Norquist that says ” Hey Grover…the R’s just said FU!”
huge smile!! rethug heads are exploding!
Send it to Grover too! :-D
As requested by you and df :)
Tee-hee-hee! My heart sings! :-)
And, Ezra Klein is correct. It really should read 100 % of Americans, because even those making more than $ 250,000.00 per year will receive a tax break on the $ 250,000.00 and will only pay more on the earnings greater than that amount.
Bobfr, could you please send one of your famous tweets to Wolf. If you could please ask him how he can be so sure in knowing that the denial by the Romney camp were truthful, with their so many lies and secrecy? And why didn’t they ask for a retraction as they did with WashPost and Boston Paper weeks ago. Sanunu, Romney using FOREIGN and STRANGE to describe president Obama since 2011. One of Romney’s son in ME or NH threading on birtherism and college transcripts. Trump fund-raising for Romney and Romney not condemning his racists acts. Well Wolf be as forceful asking Romney those questions? How about his secrecy and tax returns, would Wolf ask Romney?
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/07/25/585131/romney-uses-false-voter-fraud-allegations-to-threaten-15000-virginia-voters/
Head’s Up VIrginia! Romney thinks dogs and dead people are going to vote! Ken Cuccinelli will be on the case!
Me thinks Wolf Blitzer is going to have a nervous breakdown, with those pesky Democrats. Boy, does He hate those Democrats(except Hillary)! Can’t you tell?
Wolf Blitzer is carry buckets of OCEAN water for the Romney camp for he will be flying to Israel this weekend to interview Romney. Romney had to have a Wolf? Why?
This needs to get out there and make the rounds. Holy shit. Does NO ONE have integrity???
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/07/25/584751/romneys-we-did-build-this-events-feature-businesses-built-with-government-subsidies-and-contracts/
A list is provided….none of these companies ADMITTED to getting aid and are hosting these Romney events! But as you can plainly see…these companies DID NOT BUILD IT ON THEIR OWN!
Who needs the late night talk show hosts, when you’ve got the Romnesian clowns to entertain you?
this is a must-read! but of course, someone has integrity, df, and you know his name! starts with an ‘O’ !! :)
Of COURSE! :) PBO has TONS of integrity, that goes without saying. I was referring to ANYONE that Willard seems to associate himself with. I am MOST pissed about these companies that must know they got govt contracts or govt stimulus…let pretend they didn’t get any help to build their business! But forget the money from the govt….the point is this. THEY WOULDN’T EVEN HAVE A BUSINESS AT ALL IF IT WEREN’T FOR SOMEONE BEING ABLE TO BUY WHAT THEY WERE SELLING! The castle can be built, but if nobody uses it, it’s just another eyesore! They did not so this alone..and to claim they did…is LYING….just like WIllard!
I think that we ought to encourage people to get in touch with these businesses and call them out….I’m glad they’re doing well….but this is not ok…it’s disingenuous. BIG TIME.
Excellent commment, df!
Statement from PBO on tax cuts….and a warning of sorts to Boner:
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2012/07/obama_looking_at_you_now_boehner.php?ref=fpblg
With the Senate’s vote, the House Republicans are now the only people left in Washington holding hostage the middle-class tax cuts for 98% of Americans and nearly every small business owner. The last thing a typical middle class family can afford is a $2,200 tax hike at the beginning of next year. It’s time for House Republicans to drop their demand for another $1 trillion giveaway to the wealthiest Americans and give our families and small businesses the financial security and certainty that they need. Our economy isn’t built from the top-down, it’s built from a strong and growing middle class, and that’s who we should be fighting for.
Boner’s probably pissing in his pants.
Boner is headed straight to the bar tonight, and won’t leave t’ill perhaps Sunday afternoon….
He will already go down in history as THE WORST SPEAKER OF HOUSE IN AMERICAN HISTORY! He might as well get the Dems backing and tell the teabaggers to GTH.
If they vote it down..which, cynic that I am on the goprick house..I’m thinking they very well might.. Then Jim Graves will have a Huge Ad Campaign to get eric cantor OUT. And, not just cantor..Dems all across the US. Except those kind who shake in their pants and voted to hold Eric Holder in contempt.. Who should wear that as a BADGE OF HONOR.
Heads up everyone:

Greer said some GOP leaders were meeting to discuss ways they could suppress black votes while others were constantly scheming against each other.

The Obama campaign on Wednesday afternoon announced that it had received the endorsement of the advocacy group National Association of Police Organizations.
“NAPO is proud to endorse the Obama-Biden ticket today,” NAPO President Thomas J. Nee said in a statement forwarded by the campaign.
“This Administration’s unwavering support for law enforcement has meant that men and women in uniform across the country have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently, protecting the communities and citizens they serve. There are simply no better friends of law enforcement – and no stronger choice to lead this nation for another term – than President Obama and Vice President Biden.”
The endorsement comes two days after Vice President Joe Biden addressed the organization’s 34th annual convention. It proves the theory that the groups that are traditionally under the Democratic umbrella will be with Obama in 2012, even if some of their primary issues have been put on the backburner.
Limiting the availability of assault weapons is a traditional prerogative for police officers and their unions. And while the administration has reiterated its commitment to renewing the assault weapons ban, it has also signaled that it isn’t going to put much effort into championing new gun control legislation, even in the wake of last week’s mass shooting in Aurora, Colo.
Obama does have a proactive case to make to the group, of course. Whereas Romney has publicly stated he doesn’t feel compelled to spend more federal funds on first responders, firefighters and cops, the president has made the retention of their jobs a top priority.
I LoVE IT When Reality Meets Reality! PObama does what he thinks is right and this Police Org has taken NOTICE!
