Thank YOU for hanging in there, Chipsticks!

Seeing that first picture – as well as the one where he lets a kid feel his hair – I think of the quote, “(s)he who stoops to help a child stands tall.” Not sure who said it, but it’s good.

Tried to find that quote, which is sometimes written, “No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” Apparently, although it’s often attributed to Abraham Lincoln, he never said or wrote it (it’s often attributed to others, as well). But, as I saw on one website about it, “If he didn’t say it, he should have.” It does sound like Abe, my other favorite President, and, in any event, it definitely sounds like President Obama’s attention to children! He gives so much of himself to each one of those he meets.

I”m bringing dotster3’s post over from the last thread so it doesn’t get lost….

Repub Ia. Sec. of State has reassigned a criminal investigator to new role of purging voter roles of Dem voters. He says he’s already identified 2000-3000 fraudulent registrations, which seems to be in dispute. Even other repubs are questioning this effort, said Ia. has always had clean elections, and doubt any real voter fraud. But the sec. of state is saying citizenship will be questioned, people will be referred for prosecution, scaring people. This is absolutely disgusting —–what all these Repubs are doing in these battleground states. I just listened to Rachel’s segment on all the just unbelievable changes in Ohio—-giving Repub counties extra days and times to vote and restricting the same in Dem counties. They did similar in ’08 where they limited voting machines in Dem areas and Repub locations were amply stocked. This is just unbelivable to me that this horror is going on. Can’t there be an injunction or some legal step to stop this? I don’t think any of this is getting enough attention. Time’s a wasting.

I bring my answer over too

They really have no shame – Mitt can’t win – so we’ll see if we can remove the right to vote for those who would vote against him. Both the feds and the Democrat resources are being wasted having to fight such activities as this. Just look at this remark

“They’ve compared the voters in Iowa’s 2010 election against names of voters from 14 other states in the same election to see if individuals voted multiple times” If they DON’T find a match the name would be so unique as to probably be invented for fraudulent reasons. They are paying someone to be this dumb??

That we are in a Great Depression, globally, and worse is an amazing accomplishment by our President given the unprecedented efforts of McConnell, Boehner, Cantor ….

“If he was for it, we had to be against it,” Voinovich tells Grunwald. And at another point, characterizing a strategy session Republicans and McConnell had held in early January of 2009, Voinovich said: “He wanted everyone to hold the fort. All he cared about was making sure Obama could never have a clean victory.”

A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, “Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible.”

“What do you mean?” said the pirate, “I feel fine.”

“What about the wooden leg? You didn’t have that before.”

“Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I’m fine now.”

“Well, ok, but what about that hook? “What happened to your hand?”

“We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I’m fine, really.”

    “What about that eye patch?”

“Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them pooped on my eye.”

“You’re kidding,” said the bartender, “you couldn’t lose an eye just from some bird poop.”

“It was my first day with the hook.”

I just watch the NBC nightly news. Chuck F***ing Todd narrated the segment, which included clips from his interview with Mitt F***ing Romney. He talked about the ‘ugly’ turn of campaign ads (showed clip from Soptic Ad, followed by clip from Romney ad accusing PBO of dirty tactics). Not a single mention of Romney’s LIAR ads. Amazing.

There will be super hi’s and low’s to come. We must battle the GOP, Wall Street, Bankers, Oil money, racists, misogynists, and the MEDIA.

But, we will win by the sheer force of populist rebellion. They have over-stepped to the point of no return, and will pay the price for their arrogance.

    • 44 Walking_on_ Sunshine
      August 10, 2012 at 10:39 pm

Romney is a wimp. No one wants a President who whines and cries for mercy. When PBO was asked a while back how he felt about the terrible things that had been said about him he just said he had a thick skin and shrugged it off. That’s the kind of toughness that’s required. If Romney can’t do this how is he going to cope on the world stage. Putin will eat him for dinner.

I just had to share this comment to TPM on Romney’s refusal release his taxes. It’s Brilliant in its dry witted corporate speak:

    _________________

Earl Gray · Top Commenter · Sr. Controls Consultant at Honeywell

    Dear Mr. Romney,
We have contacted you now several times regarding your missing tax returns for years ending 2000 through 2011. To date we have only received a partial return for year ending 2010 and a “projection” of taxes for year ending 2011. Unfortunately this is inadequate documentation to evaluate your financial history and allegiances, which are critical to understand your previous behavior.

Given the disappointing Swiss bank accounts and Cayman shell corporations that we have previously discussed, these documents are now critical to better understand your past financial background. This understanding is in turn required in order to make an informed decision regarding your capability to perform the financially sensitive position that you have applied for.

If you have recently released the tax returns for years ending 2000-2011, please accept our sincere apology and we will continue to evaluate your application. If however we do not receive your tax records for the years ending 2000-2011 , we regret that we will be unable to process your application, and unable to consider you for the position for which you have applied.

If this is the case, we want to send our appreciation for your effort and application and encourage you to reapply when you are better able to meet with our admittedly high standards.

    Thank You and Best Regards.

    The American People.

They have nothing to run on, except their white skin.

MITT ROMNEY AND HIS TAX AVOIDANCE SCHEMES

    ============================================

Rachel Maddow explains that while Mitt Romney still won’t share his tax returns (despite mounting pressure from the media and voters to do so), what we do know about his finances is that he has made an active pursuit of finding ways to avoid paying taxes.

Rachel posits the notion that the Romney campaign and the Republicans are having a cow over the PrioritiesUSA ad (THAT IS NOT BEING RUN ON TELEVISION ANYWHERE) because they really don’t want to talk about the OFA ad that question his relationship with the Sons of Boss scandal. Suddenly, Mitt Romney just doesn’t want to talk about Bain which he said was his signature qualification for being president. Romney’s tax returns issue has become a real albatross. It’s just not going away. Mitt Romney is the poster child for what is wrong with our tax code.

It’s all abt Wisconsin electoral votes

The Koch brothers are hellbent on consolidating their capture of the beachhead of the progressive movement; i.e. Wisconsin. The idea is to demoralize liberals with a veep candidate we consider anathema to the progressive values we hold and WI as the heart of the progressive movement. If they can take WI electoral votes they think the entire Mid West will be theirs.

After all they have said that they want to repeat what they did with Scott Walker. So if Ryan is the pick his murderous Randian budget will be airbrushed with Koch grease $ in a manner we will never fathom. Dick Gregory will pucker up in this evil bid to make Americans race to dismantle their social safety net.

Koch et al have figured that this is their best chance of delivering poison to the American people with their own tacit consent. They firmly believe that the stresses of the economic debacle plus good old racism plus oodles of $$$ will give them the capacity to push through their extreme Libertarian agenda. They think the stars are aligned for them to this. it is their one shot to dismantle the American Commonweal and by golly they are not gonna pass it.

Ryan is also an insurance in case something catastrophic happens to Romney ethics-wise. They will just mount a palace coup d’etat and install Ryan as flagbearer.

Paul Ryan in the better English speaking version of Palin. They have never forgiven Pres. Obama for NOT being a Republican. Luntz said in 2006 that the GOP had been looking fro someone as electrifying as Obama to become their new Reagan. But when he did come along, he turned out to be a Democrat. Their hatred of him now is borne of jealousy.

Ryan is supposed to be their Obama too and the media will be commandeered to pedestal him up. Romney will fade out of the spotlight to merely ceremonial roles. Ryan is the tip of the Bircher spear that has hollowed out the Republican party. The takeover is complete. All they have to do is to kick out Romney himself and present Sir Galt himself.

This is the face of PURE EVIL

OHIO SECRETARY OF STATE JON HUSTED OATH OF OFFICE

    ==================================================

Each day I hear more and more about the voting irregularities in Ohio. I just watched Rachel Maddow again wonder why this is not a major news story across the country. This made me want to see the oath of office for the secretary of state in Ohio. I think he needs to be reminded of his duties and responsibilities and the oath he swore to uphold. Jon Husted is making a mockery of our democracy by allowing expanded voting hours in Republican counties and limiting hours in Democratic counties. Jon Husted said he would IMPARTIALLY DISCHARGE AND PERFORM ALL DUTIES. What he is allowing is a clear violation of his oath.

SECRETARY OF STATE JON HUSTED – OATH OF OFFICE

    For Immediate Release
    Sunday, January 9, 2011

Columbus – Surrounded by family, friends, supporters and fellow elected officials, and standing in the Ohio House of Representatives Chamber where he once served as Speaker of the Ohio House, Jon Husted was sworn in as Ohio’s 53rd Secretary of State.
    .
    .
As Secretary of State, Husted serves as Ohio’s chief elections officer. His highest priority is to collaborate with local elections boards to improve the overall administration of elections. As Ohio again looks to be the heart of it all in the 2012 Presidential Election, Secretary Husted wants to ensure a fair, transparent and efficient voting process in which all Ohioans, and voters across the nation, can be confident.
    .
    .
Text of the Oath of Office:

I, Jon Husted, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Ohio, and will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all of the duties incumbent upon me as the Secretary of State of Ohio according to the best of my ability, and understanding. This I do as I shall answer unto God.

BRILLIANT analysis of the results that are showing up in polls right now and why Gallup and Real Clear Politics averages don’t match the findings of all the other polls: http://infidel753.blogspot.com/2012/08/lately-something-curious-has-been.html

This was a great piece to read for me; it really explains why Nate Silver isn’t buying the polling data he’s seeing in the averages and keeps insisting they are wrong. For my money, Nate has simply lost his ability to be open to any data that doesn’t support his narrative.

Good evening or shall I saw good morning all. I went to see Chris Tucker in concert and he was very funny. He is the actor in “Friday” and “Rush Hour” movies. He was in Michael Jackson’s ‘You Rock my World’ video and did the opening conversation. He currently owes the IRS back taxes and is doing a 40 city comedy tour.
Chris supports the President 100%. He spoke well and even did some OBAMA impersonations. Some stuff was really AA humor – fried chicken, he and Michelle fighting, more fried chicken, the president ‘pimp’ walk, even more fried chicken. LOL. He asked the crowd if they were going to vote for PBO and there was a extremely loud roar. It wasn’t just me and my good friend. It was good to hear the folks in South Florida screaming for the President. He said that PBO is going to raise his taxes and normally he wouldn’t mind except he has this tax issue. LOL He also commented on how he met the president when he was a state senator in Chicago. He stated ‘if he only knew’! He would have asked him if he too had to pay taxes. So, lots of tax jokes.
It was really a very good and entertaining show. If he comes to your city, please see him. After he pays his taxes, he will start contributing to OFA!!

President Obama Hosts an Iftar Dinner

    • 167 Ladyhawke
      August 11, 2012 at 1:14 am

Thank you meta. This is just another reason to love President Obama. I was especially moved by the two passages below:

      1) HUMA ABEDIN

They are entrepreneurs and lawyers, community leaders, members of our military, and Muslim American women serving with distinction in government. And that includes a good friend, Huma Abedin, who has worked tirelessly — (applause) — worked tirelessly in the White House, in the U.S. Senate, and most exhaustingly, at the State Department, where she has been nothing less than extraordinary in representing our country and the democratic values that we hold dear. Senator Clinton has relied on her expertise, and so have I.

The American people owe her a debt of gratitude — because Huma is an American patriot, and an example of what we need in this country — more public servants with her sense of decency, her grace and her generosity of spirit. So, on behalf of all Americans, we thank you so much. (Applause.)

      2) FREEDOM OF RELIGION

And at times, we have to admit that this spirit is threatened. We’ve seen instances of mosques and synagogues, churches and temples being targeted. Tonight, our prayers, in particular, are with our friends and fellow Americans in the Sikh community. We mourn those who were senselessly murdered and injured in their place of worship. And while we may never fully understand what motivates such hatred, such violence, the perpetrators of such despicable acts must know that your twisted thinking is no match for the compassion and the goodness and the strength of our united American family.

So tonight, we declare with one voice that such violence has no place in the United States of America. The attack on Americans of any faith is an attack on the freedom of all Americans. (Applause.) No American should ever have to fear for their safety in their place of worship. And every American has the right to practice their faith both openly and freely, and as they choose.

Does Ryan have to give up his House seat? No. See Wisconsin’s election statute 8.03, which specificies that the prohibitions on running for multiple offices “shall not apply when a candidate for the office of president or vice president of the United States is nominated for another elective office during the same election. If the candidate is elected president or vice president of the United States such election shall void the candidate’s election to any other office. A special election shall be held to fill any office vacated under this subsection.” As was the case when Joe Biden joined the Obama ticket, the veep nominee can run for his current job, just in case.

      • August 11, 2012 at 4:26 am

    Comment from BJ:

    1. The GOP may have just lost the House. Now the Ryan budget that every single GOP House member voted for will now be front and center. Every Democratic challenger will wrap it around his opponent’s neck like an anvil.
    2. Ryan may end be the de facto Presidential nominee, not Mitt. The base loves him like they never loved Romney and he will likely overshadow Mitt. I thought Christie wasn’t a choice for Veep because he would overshadow Mitt. So why Ryan then?
    3. The way this is being announced. At 8 in the morning on a Saturday, while the Olympics are still going on? This doesn’t sound planned, this sounds slapped together at the last minute in a desperate attempt to staunch the bleeding and quiet the conservative hordes howling for blood after Andrea Saul’s fuckup.

Let me make this clear, I believe that Romney and Ryan clearly represent what the Republican party has always wanted to do to America, step by step, inch by inch.
Problem is, they’ve been able to disguise their malicious intentions for decades with lies, smoke and mirrors and racist dog whistles. But not any more.
No matter how loudly the GOP yells at us to not pay attention to the two sociopaths behind the curtain, it’s too late. We can finally see exactly who and what they are.

Now Mittiot can’t bang on about ‘business experience’. Ryan will overshadow Romney like Palin did McCain. Ryan is part of the loathed ‘do nothing congress’ – he represents everything wrong with the Rethug party. Wow – I just can’t believe they will really pick him. Romney is an unbelievable coward – he must have been worried that he wouldn’t even make it out of the convention if he didn’t pick Ryan. The only problem is that the MSM has accepted that Ryan is some kind of genius – must go back and read some of Krugman’s devastating take downs of him. PBO sure is lucky – he took out Bin Laden and he’s going to destroy Thurston Howwell III and Eddie Munster next. To quote darth Vader Cheney ‘it’s a reckless choice’ – so reckless that all must work extra hard to make sure they get thrashed – voter suppression and all.

“PBO sure is lucky…” whoa. have to clarify something here. that’s a theme that’s been popular in the professional left circles about president obama since he first became president, and has continued to this day. republicans use it about his incredible school achievement as well, and they both use it to this day, and it’s basically calling him an “affirmative action” case and nothing beyond that. as if all these incredible things this man has done happened just by chance and not because of his thinking 5 steps ahead of everyone else. you didn’t mean it in that way, did you? I sure hope not.

i’ve been noticing that one gaining steam recently too. the darker-skinned guy can’t achieve just on his smarts…he’s gets “lucky.” i suppose he just got lucky that he found michelle and has raised his daughters the way he has too…out of luck. and i guess he just got lucky that he made a mockery of paul ryan several months back in front of a national television audience, by inviting ryan specifially to sit in the front row…just luck i suppose now that ryan is the likely republican vp candidate. yep, just goes from one lucky thing to the next, that guy barack! if i never hear that one again, i’ll be a happy camper.

      • 230 cluny
        August 11, 2012 at 2:49 am

That is not what I meant. I think PBO is one the most talented and brilliant men on the plamet. Everything he got he worked for – probably harder than most. But sometimes luck does play a part in life – like the fact that when he ran for Senate ex Chicago Bears coach Mike Dikta (a revered figure in Chicago) was thinking about getting into the race for the Republicans but decided not to – something PBO acknowledges himself. There was no suggestion in my post of anything remotely related to affirmitive action – and I agree that it is a ludicrous charge against PBO whenever it is made but it certainly has not been made by me here.

In anticipation of Ryan being the VP los..er..pick…let’s get some juices flowing here….

    http://cognidissidence.blogspot.com/2012/08/caucus-scandal-2011-edition.html

A little more than a decade ago, Wisconsin was rocked with the caucus scandals, where it was found that both Republicans and Democrats were found to be having their caucus staff doing illegal politicking while working on state time and using state equipment.

The caucus scandals again rose in prominence in the past year as Walkergate, the John Doe investigation into Scott Walker, his campaign and his staff at Milwaukee County, revealed that they were also partaking in illegal politicking while on the taxpayers dime.

    snip/

When the Democrats regained control of the senate, one of things that did happen is that they were able to get their hands on all the documents regarding the gerrymandering. When these became available, most of the media focused on the partisanship of the gerrymandering and how it was obviously meant to infringe on voters’ rights. While this is undeniably true, it is also only part of the story.

For example, there is one email from Andy Speth, who is Paul Ryan’s Chief of Staff:
Thank you for being available to participate in the call this afternoon with the Speaker, the Majority Leader and Congressman Ryan. The purpose of the call is to get everyone on the same page as far as the process and timing of the congressional redistricting map is concerned.
What a nice, polite email showing a team working together, right?

    Well, not exactly.

ROMNEY TO UNVEIL VICE PRESIDENTIAL PICK ON SATURDAY | Mitt Romney will announce his vice presidential pick on Saturday morning in Norfolk, Virginia as he kicks off the “Plan For A Stronger Middle Class” bus tour. The kick off will occur on the USS Wisconsin. Romney aides told reporters on Friday that they expect the announcement of the running mate and the convention to be worth a double digit bounce in the polls for the candidate.

A DOUBLE DIGIT BOUNCE IN THE POLLS???????????????? HAHAHAHAHAHA On what planet?

i think they’re just throwing in the towel on the presidential, and probably no one else would say yes to going down with the u.s.s mittbot, except ryan. paulie is probably thinking it’s worth it to him just for the national name recognition and how that;ll help him in future elections. unfortunately for paulie, he lives in the bubble the media creates around him and all republicans, and he thinks america actually is interested in what he has to say, so it makes sense in his damaged little brain. just like $arah palin did. poor paulie…he believes his own hype. oh well, we need to crush him and republicans once and for all. forward!!

    http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/paul-ryan-budget-plan-5519000

HE DREAMS OF YOUR PAIN /// This week, as he rolled out his conception of a federal budget, Ryan produced the definitive statement of his political philosophy: There are those Americans who deserve to live and those Americans who don’t.

Paul Ryan is a thoroughgoing fraud. He went through high school and most of college on Social Security survivor benefits after his father’s death. He voted for almost all the Bush programs — including both off-the-books wars — that ballooned the deficit he so piously condemns now. And this week, as he rolled out his lunatic conception of a federal budget, Paul Ryan produced the definitive statement of his political philosophy: There are those Americans who deserve to live and those Americans who don’t. Period. All of the former are very, very wealthy. All of the latter are poor, or struggling, or old. Paul Ryan believes the true mission of government is to bring as much pain to the parasites as it can because, by doing so, it can liberate the genius of those people who deserve to live. When Paul Ryan dreams of a free nation, it is one in which the seventy-two-year-old spouses of seventy-five-year-old patients are free to go out and shop in a rigged insurance market for the $100,000-plus they’re going to need over a lifetime of tending to that patient. If they insisted on feeding themselves, and even risking the odd vacation, over the course of their working lives and they failed to anticipate what might befall them, then the spouse is going to have to starve and the patient is just going to have to sit there in his own filth, until market forces determine that they should die.
Look at him when he talks about dismantling the hard-won protections of the shrinking middle class. He is so positively lubricious about it that his teeth seem to be sweating. Pain (not his) purifies the nation. Pain (not his) makes us free. This is what Paul Ryan dreams of when he dreams of a free people.
The object of his politics is to render political liberty subservient to economic exigencies, to render it an unaffordable luxury item available only to the wealthy, because only the wealthy are competent enough to exercise it.

It seems he has never had to negotiate, compromise or join with others to find a solution. He gives orders to his wife, children and employees. Does he really think the President’s job is to rule the country. He will never be President – but I have to admit to a secret wish to see him in action trying to work with a democrat congress – from the look of that video – he would implode – or be impeached – whichever came first.

Okay, as best I can, since my computer keeps freezing, let me get this straight:

If Romney is picking Ryan (to star in the Lyin’ and Ryan Show), then it’ll be announced in a tried and true Navy town – Norfolk – when Romney dodged the draft during Vietnam and never served (fakery #1).

And the host will be Virginia Gov. McDonnell (or Old McDonald, whichever), who could have been the VP pick but now must swallow his … ahem … dignity in public and pretend he doesn’t mind being the bridesmaid, not the bride (fakery #2).

And it may be “at” the USS WISCONSIN, which is a decommissioned ship, but it’ll look good as a backdrop for the presidential candidate who THINKS he’ll be turning our Defense Department back into the War Department (fakery #3), and, thus, I guess, scare Iran.

And Romney lies constantly and inconsistently, and Ryan keeps saying he’s just concerned with budget figures and not with ruining the lives of senior citizens, and those two are the biggest effin’ fakers I think we’ve seen in a long time (which equals fakery to the Nth degree).

What’s next? Pigs in lipstick flying?

It’s 12:51 am. I can’t sleep. This is really exciting. Paul Ryan, the zombie-eyed granny-starver from Wisconsin, will force the GOP master plan into the public square, in a way the MSM has failed to do. The ‘Masters of the Universe’ will finally be exposed. Every Republican who voted for the Ryan Bill will now have to explain themselves. The Dems will be on fire, because saving Medicare from the rethugs is solid political ground. No need to cower.

The Convention and the debates will give Dems the platforms they need to bypass the MSM, and get real policy information to the public. It will also be an opportunity to inform people about the total Rethug obstruction tactics. The masks will be stripped from their two-faces, and the gloves will come off.

Did I mention that Harry Reid is awesome.

I’m thinking that there are Republicans who plan to publicly cross-over to the Dems. Maybe even switch parties. If that’s true, it will give other sane Republicans the ‘cover’ they need to do the same.

I am filled with renewed energy, to face the battle ahead. We will be filled with the spirit of the ‘righteous’. TeeHee.

      August 11, 2012 at 6:08 am

This is not really on topic here, but I have a question on voting procedures as a foreigner that came up when chatting to a friend from Missouri a few days ago.
He mentioned upcoming local elections and I asked some details about that. He then said that things usually went like this: you go to vote, they ask you whether you want the Democrat or the Republican list and you then go to tick the names you choose from that ballot. (As opposed to picking the party in the booth)I was totally confused by that because I always thought that, just like here, there is a right in the US for equal and secret elections. He said it had not always been that way, I am very confused by that. Can someone tell me more about that? It doesn´t seem legit…

      • 292 57andFemale
        August 11, 2012 at 8:04 am

In IL, that’s for the primary, not the general. There is one ballot for the general election.

      • 293 jackiegrumbacher
        August 11, 2012 at 8:09 am

He’s wrong, Nili. That scenario is only for closed primaries in some states when you pick the person to represent your party in the general election. In the general election, you vote for whoever you please–no questions asked. Obviously, this guy has never voted in a general election or was trying to confuse you.

Mitt Romney will name Paul Ryan as his VP. Here’s what that means……

Romney’s original intention was to make the 2012 election a referendum on President Obama’s management of the economy. Ryan makes it a choice between two competing plans for deficit reduction. This election increasingly resembles the Obama campaign’s strategy rather than the Romney campaign’s strategy…..

Ryan upends Romney’s whole strategy. Until now, Romney’s play has been very simple: Don’t get specific. In picking Ryan, he has yoked himself to each and every one of Ryan’s specifics

A fellow diner became enraged and disgusted about what she heard and saw and approached the table. Don’t know if Ryan was embarrassed or not but there’s a grainy vid of this somewhere.

The author and defender of the Kill Medicare Bill? Did Pawlenty and Portman run away because they know just how ridiculous Romney is? The White House and the The Obama Team are laughing their asses off. Yeah we won’t get overconfident and we’ll still work our behinds off but this is too funny. The media is having a collective orgasm tweeting and talking about how it’s such a bold choice that will invigorate the race. Umm….no it won’t. Because now it’s going to be about how Ryan’s budget explodes the deficit, kicks seniors off the Medicare they’ve known for years, and oh yeah….Romney’s missing tax returns.
