PAUL RYAN IS SEVERELY CONSERVATIVE AND SEVERELY ‘OVERRATED’.
Debunking the Myth of Paul Ryan Policy Wonk
By Sarah Jones
So, a deficit hawk drafts a budget that would grow the national debt, with no plan to pay it off?
A deficit hawk voted for all of the policies that dug the hole that Obama is trying to fix? Paul Ryan voted for Bush’s unpaid for Medicare Part D plan. He wasn’t worried about revenue to pay for that policy.
Paul Ryan voted for the Iraq war and the Bush tax cuts for the rich.
Paul Ryan is not a deficit hawk or a policy wonk, unless we’re grading on a Palin curve and even then, while Palin might not have understood the policy of her administration, she did manage to help her state by redistributing the wealth from the oil companies to the people.
Just like Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin is best known for being against socialism, and yet she was the closest thing we have had to a socialist governor. Paul Ryan is known as a policy wonk and deficit hawk, but he is responsible for raising the deficit via his votes and his budget grows debt.
@JoeBiden @vj44 Talk about "Class Warfare" – #RmoneyRayn leave no doubt they ONLY serve plutocrats. John Birch Society + Ayn Rand = GOP2012.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) August 12, 2012
Yes, the Romney Campaign Is That Cynical
By Jonathan Cohn
The Romney campaign is pushing back hard against accusations that Paul Ryan, and by extension Romney himself, are threatening Medicare. And they’re recycling an old, discredited attack line to do it.
The real assault on Medicare, according to Romney and his allies, comes from President Obama, because the Affordable Care Act calls for $700 billion in cuts to Medicare over the next decade.
Capturing the cynicism on display here isn’t easy. I’m going to try anyway.
Yes, the Affordable Care Act includes substantial cuts to Medicare. But Ryan’s own budget, which nearly every House Republican voted to pass and which Romney has said he would sign as president, leaves those cuts in place and uses them to finance other priorities. In other words, the Romney campaign is attacking a proposal that Romney and his allies endorse.
The most significant difference between the two sides, at least for the short- to medium-term, is
The BIGGEST difference is that the cuts in the Affordable Care Act are NOT TO BENEFICIARIES!
The cuts to MEDICARE are not to the beneficiaries!!!
That photo was taken from the Southside of Chicago not too far from the Museum of Science and Industry and maybe a mile or so from his home.

So Mittens actually made a decision? And this was it? Brilliant. I”m telling you, the Obama folks have rewired his brain.

THE GOP’S WEAK BENCH
In Picking Paul Ryan, Has Romney Actually Helped Obama?
By Doug Mataconis
Many outside Republican strategists, however, are already fretting that the pick will likely turn out to be political malpractice—turning off independents and older voters, who depend especially on programs that are targeted by Ryan’s budget plan that would cut entitlements.
In this case, the shiny object is a sharply pointed weapon: the choice will instantly infuse a sullen, content-free contest with new energy and ideas but it’s just as likely to lacerate Romney by handing Democrats a fresh line of attack.
For now, Romney’s bold move is a gamble that in its own way is as breathtaking as the ultimately self-defeating one John McCain made four years ago with Sarah Palin.
John McCain also made the Sarah Palin connection yesterday when he spoke about the endorsement, likening the picking of Ryan as the same kind of “bold choice” that he made when he picked the former Alaska Governor four years ago. This is probably not what the Romney people wanted to hear because it was very clear from the beginning that the one thin the Romney campaign wanted to avoid was a repeat of the Palin fiasco.
After Rmoney got his marching orders for the Kochroaches he made his own decision. But his underlings would not have knowledge of that, would they?
Nope. They wouldn’t.
Rep. Paul Ryan Passed Two Bills During 13 Years As Congressman mediaite.com/a/zqkyr— Mediaite (@mediaite) August 12, 2012
And, they were forgettable.
CNN already has live stream up.
David Plouffe speaking now!
Evening from NOLA guys.
Great read: Picking Ryan Wasn’t Bold; It Was Insane
Didn’t these same people say that McCain picking Palin was bold. Enough said.
“If we assume that we are talking about voters who are leaning Republican because they don’t like paying taxes that are then spent on the truly poor, you could hardly do worse than to propose raising their taxes, slashing their earned benefits, and giving all the money to the rich rather than using it to aggressively pay down the deficit.”
So when your Republican uncle thinks this is a great ticket, read this to them.
Seniors are a stubborn lot and have continued to choose to believe the “Obama cut $700B from Medicare” b.s. The Ryan budget KEEPS THOSE SAME CUTS but instead of transferring the savings to actual benefit enhancements like Obamacare does, it keeps those same cuts in place, adds to them, and uses the money to finance tax cuts for the rich and increases the deficit.
CSPAN will have it, and CNN is not allowed, because RNC needs to give them the green light.
TeaNN, not CNN. CNN disappear years ago.

Apparently, Ryan spreads his lie about this tonight on 60 Minutes. Don’t let him get away with it.
Ryan is just as big a liar as Romney. Two peas in a pod.
If the interviewer lets them get away with this distortion CBS should be made to pay a heavy price for sloppy reporting. Yeah I thought the room looked quite full, and even if it weren’t, so what? As collegekay stated, at fundraisers (as opposed to open rallies) rooms are deliberately not filled. I can understand that because where people pay big bucks to attend, you don’t want them squished up against each other with little room to breathe or move like sardines in a can. You want them to be comfortable while they listen to the President.

Romney Picked Ryan Over Advisers’ Early Doubts
A high risk pick, driven by the candidate. “Everybody was against” Ryan, says a top Republican.
Sounds like a repeat of 2008. Can’t wait for the updated “Game Change” movie.
Now NY Post is claiming that Romney wanted to pick Gov Christie but only on the condition that he resigned his position as NJ Gov to campaign full-time, which Christie was not willing to do. I think Christie himself just wasn’t interested because he is lazy and after work just wants to come home, eat dinner and veg out on the couch in front of HBO, or play video games on the computer. Who wants to follow Willard around all over the country saying things that they don’t believe deep down? Not Christie!!
And of course, Meeka will inform us of this nonsense, in about 12 hours or so! That is Her Boy. Why?
I am sorry but I don’t buy this story. Is it really a coincidence that Romney picked Ryan after the right wingers, including Coulter and Limbaugh, were so angry about his aid touting Romneycare in MA that there were almost threatening a rebellion? I see this as an attempt to cover up Romney’s inability to stand up against the pressure from the right.
Romney is claiming 8,000 at rally in Manasses, Va
hahhha…here is a pix.
A bunch of bused-in baggers. That’s all I see. No diversity whatsover.
Now that Ryan is on the ticket, the baggers will come out of the woodwork.
Didn’t the same thing happen with Palin in 08? But for every bagger that comes out of the woodwork, there’s an Independent or moderate Repub that flees the ship.

What Wisconsin Journalists Want You To Know About Paul Ryan
By Media Matters
“There are people in his district shocked to find out he was a big player on budget stuff. He has been able to define his own story. He didn’t really spend any time in state politics and right out of college he went right into interning. While he is a Wisconsin congressman, he is not somebody who came up through the state ranks.”
Columnist Dan Bice of the Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee, offered a similar view, saying “His hometown has been hurt economically, GM pulled out of there and some have said he has not done a lot to help out. The recession has hit Janesville as much as anywhere.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics data on Janesville finds unemployment spiked to more than 15 percent when the plant closed and was above 10 percent as recently as February.
And yet the good people of his district kept right on sending him back to Congress even though he didn’t do a damned thing for them.
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “The way to understand him is he is Dick Cheney, he is a guy who went to Washington as soon as he could, rooted himself in the establishment, got himself elected as soon as he could and became a major player,” said John Nichols, an associate editor at the Capital Times in Madison. “He is Dick Cheney with very good hair.”
A total Washington insider with delusions of grandeur, and Randian ideology….that’s just like Cheney. What could go wrong!

FTN HOST NANCY CORDES UNAWARE THAT PBO HAS A DEFICIT REDUCTION PLAN
CBS’ Face The Nation Is Unaware That Obama Has A Deficit Reduction Plan
by Media Matters
Cutter responded that Obama has a plan, which is available on the White House website. She added that Obama’s plan “does make those tough choices,” but is “not an ideological document like Paul Ryan’s plan.”
Later, Cordes claimed that Obama may have a plan on his website, but on the campaign trail, Obama mostly talks about “raising taxes on the two percent. Where are the other bold plans that require sacrifice from the rest of the country?” Cutter pointed Cordes again to the White House website and noted that Obama has not only talked about his budget cutting plans, he has given an address to a joint session of Congress about it.
Cutter proceeded to provide details of Obama’s plan to reduce the deficit.
Where are the real journalists? Where are the people graduating from university journalism schools doing? Going into investment banking?
Don’t be so hard on her. Overall, she was pretty good. A very balanced approach, which allowed each side enough time to give a complete answer. I thought Stef Cutter did an awesome job. She cleaned Fernstrum’s clock.
Debbie Wasserman was also dynamite on Fox News Sunday. I’m keeping that one for posterity.
Meet the press sucked more than usual. 5 men and 1 woman (rachel maddow). She barely was able to speak. Asshole Gregory cut her off and changed the subject, on an important issue.
Gavin Newsome and Howard Dean made the points about the 700 Billion Medicare cuts. They were both excellent. I am not a big fan of the sunday shows. They’re usually shit. But this week, they were really substantive, except David Gregory-Meet the Press
I sent her the media matters link…and said ….” Wow… How embarrassing for you that you did not do your homework before making accusations…”
Awesome, thanks Linda. We also need to send feedback to 60 Minutes. It sounds like there was nothing but lying from the Romney/Ryan team in that interview. Any journalist worth their salt should be able to challenge outlandish claims. Not doing your homework is inexcusable.
I am not going to bother watching that one….
You should. Stef cutter was excellent

He asked them about Congress, but failed to mention anything about Republican obstruction. Media malpractice.
Hate to link to dailykos—-so much that I never have—–but I think this diary contains some good ideas about how to combat this Medicare lie that the Vulcher/Voucher team is telling all over the place——how best to word the pushback on this lie. They again are taking Ryan’s worst aspect—–ending Medicare as we know it—–and attempting to pin the same thing on PBO, saying he made the big “cuts” and Priebus said he “has blood on his hands” and all kinds of garbage. Many thought that the Dem team was not adequately prepared for response on this subject this a.m. What they are again doing—–death panels etc.—–is infuriating, and this twisted, dishonest rhetoric needs to be nipped in the bud. They can’t be allowed to get away with this junk again.
The law has been in effect for 2 years, nobody has seen their Medicate benefits decrease.
Exactly, Jovie! I am a senior citizen and I have not seen my healthcare benefits decrease. Instead, what I’ve seen are reduced co-pay for prescription medicine and free annual check-ups. To this day, I just don’t get why many senior citizens are anti-President Obama. The ACA closed the donut hole in medicare’s part D. Seniors can now get free check-ups. Also, because of 80-85% requirement for insurance to spend premiums on patient care my senior supplemental insurance went down over $80 a month (about $1000 a year). President Obama has been good for seniors. Unfortunately because of the media and the GOP propaganda, senior citizens will likely vote against their own interests.
I trust the Obama campaign to know how to handle these lying bastards.
Also, check out the Medicare Advocacy Group’s website: http://www.medicareadvocacy.org/2010/10/28/health-care-reform-does-not-cut-medicare-benefits/
Has a lot of good information. The conclusion?
“The Affordable Care Act slows the growth in future Medicare spending by reducing overpayments to private Medicare Advantage plans, by restructuring up-dates in payments to many providers, and by tying payments to improved quality of care. Health care reform does not reduce Medicare benefits.”

Fox Falsely Claims Obama Is Gutting Medicare While Ryan Is Trying To Save It
Fox is pushing a Romney campaign falsehood that President Obama rather than Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) plans to gut Medicare as we know it.
Ryan has received strong criticism for his plan to transform Medicare into a voucher system. Trying to deflect the attacks on Ryan’s plan, Fox contributor Angela McGlowan claimed that the Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) cuts hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare.
In fact, the savings the ACA makes to the Medicare program would not cause a decline in quality of care under Medicare, and Ryan has proposed identical savings. But Ryan’s plan goes much further, ending Medicare as we know it by transforming it into a voucher plan.
CHICAGO — It didn’t take long for President Obama to weigh in on the selection of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Sunday as he delivered his first set of public remarks since Mitt Romney announced his choice.
“This kind of top down economics is central to Governor Romney and it is central to his running mate,” Obama said at a fundraiser at the Bridgeport Art Center on the South Side, where tickets started at $51 per person for the 1000 attendees.
“Just yesterday, my opponent chose his running mate, the ideological leader of Republicans in Congress, Mr. Paul Ryan,” the president said to scattered boos from the crowd.
“I want to congratulate Congressman Ryan,” he continued. ”I know him. I welcome him to the race.”
“Congressman Ryan is a decent man, he is a family man, he is an articulate spokesman for Romney’s vision. But it’s a vision that I fundamentally disagree with,” the president added, taking a much more cordial approach to the vice presidential candidate’s entry into the race than the one offered by Obama aides including senior adviser David Axelrod.
Obama was introduced by White House senior adviser David Plouffe, who was introduced without mention of his administration title.
The fundraiser is one of five Obama is attending on Sunday, and was billed as a big birthday bash for the president, who turned 51 on August 4. After Obama took the stage, the crowd broke into a singing of “Happy Birthday,” with “Mr. President” taking the place of a name, though not quite as saucily as Marilyn Monroe’s early 1960s version to John F. Kennedy.
What’s with the Marilyn Monroe comparison ? That is tacky….JFK was a womanizer…..I am offended.
The media is Snarky.

I am noticing what I am guessing is a newly charged tea party swarming in defense of their darling VP candidate wherever there is a non-flattering description of him—-on twitter and news sites etc. I guess that was the point in this tea party pick—–there was absolutely no enthusiasm for the Willard campaign—–and so now we will get to experience another round of ugly, idiotic, dumbheaded, dishonest tea party rhetoric.
The outcome will be the same as in 2008. A riled up tea party base, but Independents and moderates that are turned off.
I don’t agree. This time, the Dems are on the same page, and all fighting against the Ryan Budget.
These are truly nasty fellas.
Ten things you should know about the Koch Brothers. dld.bz/bJmM3— Roger Ebert (@ebertchicago) August 12, 2012
Can someone explain to me why raising the cap on Social Security taxes isn’t front and center? I can’t seem to find the percentages that I read somewhere — how much lower the percentage of wages paid now than they were 30 years ago. A modest lifting of the wage cap would solve the Social Security problem and help greatly with Medicare.
I know the campaign and the Dem’s will get their act together, but they should have been better prepared for the $700B cut” lie.
Our “cuts” cut waste, fraud and abuse and LOWER PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS for all seniors. Our cuts are funneled into benefits for seniors. Ryan’s cuts KEEP in place all of the ACA cuts BUT funnel them AWAY FROM BENEFITS and into tax cuts for the rich.
106k is the donut hole.
The only reason I can think of is ‘bad timing’. We have always known the ‘fix’ for Social Security is to raise or eliminate the cap.
Congress must approve a change that raises the cap on Social Security taxes. The Democrats have been unable to get such a change voted on in the House of Representatives. In fact, these issues were raised in the debt ceiling fight between the President and the House when the republicans caused the debt rating to be cut to a double A rating (AA) from the triple A rating our nation always maintained. (By the way, we are back to a triple A rating because of our President’s hard work on the economy). These arguments are all a part of the make sure the President has “one-term” in office strategy by the republicans.
The republicans have claimed that President Obama cut Medicare at other times. This charge has been refuted, fact checked, and discussed many times in the last 2 years. Republicans just LIE! The $700B cut has been refuted by the campaign. The last time they made this charge against the President they claimed the President cut $500B from Medicare. The campaign seems to have calculated that they will not address every claim by the republicans. They have their strategy, and they move forward in their own plan.
As supporters of our President’s agenda, we can help by explaining these things to our friends, family, and others over the next 2 months. We will need every vote to win this election, and a close vote means the republicans will steal the election. We have a lot of work to do.

Going to Iowa instead. Stalking the President!
According to previously published reports, Romney had plans to end his day tomorrow in Fort Lauderdale, with an evening fundraiser at the home of Mike Maroone, chief operating officer of AutoNation. The other hosts include businessman Manny Kadre and well-known South Florida auto dealer Rick Case.
A crowd of about 50, at $50,000 a person, is expected at Maroone’s home in the Idlewyld neighborhood off Las Olas Boulevard.
Will Knoller tweet that ? 50k per person is more than the President gets.
Is he going to be staking the President the whole time? What a loser!

ROMNEY AS THE RUNNING MATE – THE TICKET’S NUMBER 2.
Romney’s Stunning, Terrible Choice of Ryan for VP
By Michale Tomasky
So he’ll get some good press, and he’ll generate great enthusiasm among conservative intellectuals. But the introduction of him to the American people will inevitably involve some other things, too. It will involve explanations from the media that he is the GOP’s archconservative theoretician. It will involve explaining who Ayn Rand is. It will involve going into detail on his budget, and in particular his plans for Medicare. Learn that now, folks, if you don’t know it already. It will involve endless interpretations exactly like mine, about Romney sending a signal that he is running an ultraconservative campaign. The Ryan controversy will overtake the campaign. Romney will become in some senses the running mate—the ticket’s No. 2.
Think of it: The candidate will be running on his vice president’s ideas! It’s a staggering thought. Ryan might as well debate Obama this October, and Romney can square off against Biden.

I agree PF. I shudder to think how much uglier it’s going to get. They are freaking out and they are desperate to win. The Ryan Budget is toxic and they know it. How many Republicans have you heard today trying to put lipstick on that pig. It’s a disaster. You can just imagine some Republicans getting that sinking feeling when they found out that Paul Ryan was going to be the VP choice. His claim to fame is his budget, Ayn Rand and P90X. He has no legislative accomplishments to speak of. He’s the darling of the DO NOTHING CONGRESS. He’s a smooth salesman with extreme and radical ideas.

They are chanting voter id? Really? I would love to send that visual to the twitterverse.
Why are they chanting “photo ID?” Are they more concerned about suppressing people’s right to vote than they are concerned about their own candidates? Contrast this angry oppressive chants to Obama’s crowds who usually shout happily, warmly and enthusiastically “4 more years” or “yes we can” or “Obama!”

Seven Things The Media Need To Know About Paul Ryan
The media have portrayed Rep. Paul Ryan as a courageous reformer who is offering serious solutions to fix the country’s finances. In reality, Ryan is an ideologue who offers fraudulent proposals that would hurt low and middle income Americans and put the social safety net in jeopardy. Media Matters looks at what the media should know about Paul Ryan and his policies.
Media Have Portrayed Ryan As A Serious and Responsible Reformer
1. Ryan Wants Low And Middle Income Americans To “Bear The Entire Burden” Of His Fiscal Reforms
2. Ryan Plan Would Drastically Hurt Medicare And Medicaid Recipients
3. Ryan Has A Fraudulent Plan To Reduce The Deficit
4. Fiscal Hawk? Ryan Supported Policies That Caused Massive Deficits
5. Ryan Has Repeatedly Proposed Partially Privatizing Social Security
6. Ryan Is A Historically Ideological VP Nominee Pick

MEDIA FOCUS SHOULD BE ON JOB CREATION NOT DEFICIT REDUCTION
Media Let GOP VP Pick Shift Focus From Jobs To Deficits
Media outlets are reporting that Mitt Romney’s selection of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as his vice presidential running mate will shift the election debate to deficit reduction. But economists argue that creating jobs, and not cutting the deficit, should be the current economic priority for policymakers.
Experts Maintain That Focus Should Be On Job Creation, Not Deficit Reduction…

This is what Romney just said on 60 minutes. Who the hell is running this campaign?
What was “wet kiss” Bob’s reaction?
He just glossed over it. It was so weird. Romney was bashing Pres. Obama and then he said look at your utility bill and then he made the statement. Then Ryan jumped in and began whining about budgets and budget policy and how the senate hasn’t passed a budget.
I’m just curious. Was there any discussion at about specifics for JOB CREATION. I am so sick of the obsession with deficit reduction when people can’t even get a freaking job.
Please tell me this is a joke.

Thanks ut for taking the time to do this for us!
CHICAGO — President Obama stood on the front lawn of his home here Sunday afternoon as he predicted a race that would be far closer than one of Usain Bolt’s gold-medal sprints.
“This is not going to be a race like Usain Bolt where we’re like 40 yards ahead and we can just kind of start jogging 10 feet before the finish line,” he told a crowd of 100 that paid $40,000 each to hear from the president on the lush green grounds of his Kenwood house.
“We’re going to have to run through the tape,” he said. “But we’re really well positioned to not just win but to keep America moving forward.”
Obama said he’s positioned well because of his plans to create jobs and grow the middle class, which are in “stark” contrast to those proposed by Republican Mitt Romney and his new running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan.
In 2008, “my opponent John McCain believed in immigration reform, believed in campaign finance reform, believed in climate change,” Obama said. While they disagreed on approaches, “there was rough agreement about the facts.”
But, this year, “you have a stark choice, as stark as we’ve seen in a generation, at least.”
“Mr. Romney and now his running mate, Paul Ryan, fundamentally believe that if folks at the top are doing well and we eliminate regulations … that somehow prosperity will come roaring back and will trickle down to everybody.”
Then, he detailed the contrasts on a range of issues.
“I believe that women should have control over their health care choices. Mr. Romney and Congressman Ryan have a different view,” Obama said. “I believe it was right to end Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell … Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan have a different view. I believe in investing in clean energy … Mr. Romney and Congressman Ryan have a different view. On international policy, I think ending the war in Iraq was the right thing to do. Gov. Romney disagrees.”

Rachel Maddow Kills the Romney/Ryan Medicare Lie Dead In its Tracks
By Jason Easley
Rachel Maddow delivered a quick knock out punch to the Republican lie that Mitt Romney doesn’t support Paul Ryan’s Medicare voucher plan on Meet The Press.
Here’s the video:
See how easy that was? Rachel Maddow derailed Lowry in a matter of seconds on Medicare. As soon as she spotted the inconsistency in Lowry’s talking point, Maddow pounced and it was all over for Rich Lowry. As Maddow expertly revealed Republicans have to keep the conversation on Medicare superficial, because their whole talking point falls apart as soon as it is scrutinized in the slightest.
Rachel Maddow showed Republicans just a teeny tiny bit of what’s coming their way this fall. And if Sunday was any indication, Romney and the Republican Party have no clue what’s about to hit them.
And Rachel should be one of the moderators for the Presidential debates.
The official website doesn’t have moderators listed.
since when? I heard about Christine but not about Rachel.
Oh really? I didn’t know that.

This epitomizes why the American people don’t have a clue about the accomplishments of President Obama. We have a feckless media that can’t even conduct an interview that informs the public of the facts. This is just malpractice. A disgrace to the journalism profession.
Booking Bob Scheffer on 60 minutes, had to be calling in a Favor.
That was just to fixed, to not think otherwise.
This time Jovie, I agree with you.
Jovie, you nailed it! Romney had to have Bob Scheiffer do the interviewing otherwise he would not have agreed to appear on 60 minutes. Bob Scheiffer is in the same league as David Gregory. They are both water carriers for Romney and the GOP.
I’m checking the Milwaukee Journal site—–and notice an article about Voucher’s wifey——and I’m sorta curious so I check it out. In it there is a quote from the Voucher Man, talking about when they began dating—–and he said it was after winning his election—–and he said that you know after a strenuous campaign like that all the adrenaline leaves your body and you get so sick—–and he got SO SICK—–he was knocked down for the count—–with a bad case of the flu—–he even had to miss Congress’ freshman otientation he was so sick. And then the story goes on that his friend calls to say he’s taking him to her bday party etc., but I thought if he got that sick from a congressional race, he might not make it thru a presidential run, poor delicate dear. And speaking of “dear” (deer), on one of their first dates he took her deer hunting and he shot an 8 point buck. Isn’t that so sweet and romantic? We have these beautiful animals trot through our backyard from time to time and I can never figure out how someone could gaze on these elegant creatures and get a kick out of shooting them dead. I always think that there are a billion other more worthwhile hobbies/pastimes/pursuits. He’s the exact opposite of the kind of person I can relate to, for this reason alone. And then add all the other outrageous political stands, and he is as intolerable as it gets for me.
I thinking the same thing – he’s a spoiled brat…someone tweeted that he almost cried today at one of his rallies. And remember how very hurt he seemed to be when PBO challenged his “budget?”

How did I know that as soon as the VP was annouced that folks in my twitter timeline would start concern trolling again?
Which folks? Mine are having a hearty guffaw. Then again, I’ve assiduously avoided following the usual suspects.
I won’t say names but I just needed to vent otherwise I would blow my gasket on Twitter.
Its like the past few months of Pres. Obama kicking Romney’s ass never happened. FML!
People need to calm down. Romney’s gotten nothing but positive coverage and POTUS is still whooping his ass. They’ve tried to make his gaffes seem endearing, they tried to convince America that his overseas trip was a total success and they’ve even rigged polls in Romney’s favor and yet no one is buying it. Putting Ryan on the ticket and getting a week or two of gushing coverage is not going to change that. Saying Ryan is handsome is not going to change the fact that he looks like a serial killer. Saying he’s a serious politician is not going to change the fact that he’s only sponsored 2 bills in 14 years. Saying he compassionate does not change the fact that he wants to kill medicare and take healthcare away from sick babies.
More and more people are waking up to the mainstream media bias . It’s not just us hardcore political watchers and Obots who are noticing this. The coverage is so insanely biased that folks who only watch the news in passing can see it.
People need to chill. Ryan and Mitt are going to get insanely positive coverage right in to their convention. Period. So get used to it now. We’re gonna be hearing about how hot and sexy the serial killer is and how energized and “down home” Mitt is on the stump. There will be numerous bogus polls that will be breathlessly reported on. That is what they are gonna try and sell us. But know and understand, that it will NOT work.
They are not the gatekeepers anymore. Their day is over. This is why President Obama is still leading by nearly 10 points even though, as studies have shown, 90 percent of his media coverage is negative.
itgurl you’ve said exactly what needs to be said here. This constant hand-wringing and doubting PBO’s team on Twitter is not really a good use of any one’s time.
He’s only ‘passed’ two bills in 14 years.
I’m sorry. Passed two bills. He’s done pretty much nothing but go there and collect a check.
ALL OF THIS!! Thank you. We also have to remember that Ryan is very politically naive. He has lived a very sheltered political life. National politics (i.e. Obama campaign) is going to crush him. He won’t know what hit him. Romney too.
Well said. Totally agree.
Itgurl_29, I agree with you 100%! Thanks for the new media, the MSM no longer monopolize the dissemination of news and information.
Great comment Itgurl. I totally agree with you. Any democrat handwringing over Mitt choosing Ryan needs to have his/her head examined. Of course the MSM will try to hype Ryan and continue to carry water for Mitt, we have to realize the game being played and not fall for the propaganda. Most Americans want Mitt to release his tax returns, this is a major issue (especially if he in fact did not pay any taxes for 10 years). I trust PBO’s brain trust to figure out a way to combat Mitt/Ryan’s constant stream of lies. Personally, I was very happy that Mitt chose Ryan. Mitt is so worried about his base that he has forfeited the Independent and moderate republican voter. This is looking more and more like a PBO landslide.
I had to tweet this for the hand wringers, whiners and criers.

With all the money he has, he could have at least thrown a few bucks to Vistaprint for an overnight order of a banner and few signs for the crowd …
I do see a FEW signs….mostly in the group behind the podium.

Yeah, only if Eddie Munster is sexy to you.
Itgurl, I couldn’t agree more. Ryan is truly creepy. He has the kind of face you would expect to see in a movie about a stalker or serial killer. How desperate would you have to be to consider him good looking. He’s repellent.
He’s very corpse like. I imagine if you shook his hand it would be cold.

Really does sound like Ryan’s the boss, doesn’t it? So Mitt’s not only a bully to the weak, he’s a punk when it comes to GOP establishment/teabaggers.
Check out the body language – looks like it too! Also, I notice that this is so far the most relaxed I’ve seen Mitt in an ‘interview’. Now he has someone to sit beside him or hold his hands in situations when he has to leave AnnD behind.

Now, it’s Ryans turn.
Chips – this one is important and very tightly aligned with what several of us have been discussing for quite some time …
“But there is a silver lining. Mitt Romney has given the Tea Party the election they want: a referendum on dramatic cuts in federal spending. When Obama wins—as seems even more likely today than it did Friday—the message will now be harder for Republicans to ignore. Ever since 2008, one of the biggest questions in American politics has been when the Republican Party would realize it was out of step with America and begin overhauling itself, as Democrats did in the 1980s. Paradoxically, Ryan’s selection has likely hastened that process. I hope the far right enjoys itself today, because I don’t think the fun is going to last.”
Has Romney made a huge mistake with Paul Ryan? I certainly think so. Here's an excellent and intelligent article… fb.me/1ffMQ8ajH— Anne Rice (@AnneRiceAuthor) August 13, 2012
Norm Ornstein and Thomas Mainn made similar points…
Let’s just say it: The Republicans are the problem.
If our democracy is to regain its health and vitality, the culture and ideological center of the Republican Party must change. In the short run, without a massive (and unlikely) across-the-board rejection of the GOP at the polls, that will not happen. If anything, Washington’s ideological divide will probably grow after the 2012 elections.
Our advice to the press: Don’t seek professional safety through the even-handed, unfiltered presentation of opposing views. Which politician is telling the truth? Who is taking hostages, at what risks and to what ends?
Also, stop lending legitimacy to Senate filibusters by treating a 60-vote hurdle as routine. The framers certainly didn’t intend it to be. Report individual senators’ abusive use of holds and identify every time the minority party uses a filibuster to kill a bill or nomination with majority support.
Look ahead to the likely consequences of voters’ choices in the November elections. How would the candidates govern? What could they accomplish? What differences can people expect from a unified Republican or Democratic government, or one divided between the parties?
In the end, while the press can make certain political choices understandable, it is up to voters to decide. If they can punish ideological extremism at the polls and look skeptically upon candidates who profess to reject all dialogue and bargaining with opponents, then an insurgent outlier party will have some impetus to return to the center. Otherwise, our politics will get worse before it gets better.
My colleague wisely notes that the Romney campaign canceled their interview with Gwen Ifill to do Schieffer… (will update)— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) August 13, 2012
I wonder how Ifill herself interprets this?
Both sides do it.
I checked her TL and nary a peep from her on that issue. Meanwhile, she’s retweeted some BS from buzzfeed about how this is now a “real campaign” because of Ryan’s selection.
Do you have her twitter handle ? I will just ask her how it feels to be screwed over by vulture/voucher 2012.

Really bad form.
Now I really hope that Gwen is chosen to facilitate one of the debates.
Does anyone remember exactly how she did in ’08? My memory was that I was not implressed/pleased. I think she may have been too anxious to prove she was objective and went overboard the other way, as often happens.
Palin didn’t answer any questions and she was never called on it – walked all over Gwen
“Does anyone remember exactly how she did in ’08? My memory was that I was not implressed/pleased.”
You are not alone. Gwen Ifill did not impress me. She sat there and let Sarah Palin say whatever she came to say without answering the question she posed. I was definitely not impressed by Ms Ifill. Personally I know of no other mainstream media personality, other than Bill Moyers, that I can count on to fearlessly ask penetrating questions.
Well, I agree with all the assessments of Gwen Ifill – she was a disaster in the VP debates. But now that she’s been dumped by Romney and Ryan, she might want to get revenge.

ROMNEY HAS CONTEMPT FOR THE MEDIA AND THE VOTERS
I thought there was something suspicious about the late cancellation of the Gwen Ifill interview. I figured Romney/Ryan would be spending their time locked in a Sean Hannity embrace. But suddenly they are appearing on 60 Minutes for a love in with Bob Schieffer. The few journalists who have done their job and called out the Mitt Romney lies are just not going to get an interview. The contempt that Romney shows for the media is really astonishing.
The Mendacity Is The Message
By Paul Krugman
The core of Romney’s campaign strategy seems to be contempt for the news media (and the voters), the belief that he can say anything and pay no price — which was the way things worked for Bush. But maybe, just maybe, his calculation was wrong, and serial dishonesty will become, justifiably, part of the narrative.
It really pisses me off the way he gets away with things like this.

I don’t remember it that way…..I remember the president’s speech, and all the pundits commenting on it, then the next morning came the Sarah Palin announcement. However…….that was not the important event. The important event was in November, the wonderful election announceent in Grant Park. McCain’s event was so subdued, and remember, Sarah wanted to make a speech in Phoenix, and was mad because she didn’t get to. She never realized she was running for VICE president, not president.
I, unfortunately, remember it that way. I wasn’t even watching m$m..just remembered the glow of the Dem convention being cut short online by moosemouth. And, I was glad to see our Convention is second this time.

Simply threatening default cost $1.3 bil in 2011 & @altmandaniel reminds us that Ryan supported actually defaulting
gao.gov/products/GAO-1…— Betsey Stevenson (@BetseyStevenson) August 13, 2012
From the report:
Delays in raising the debt limit can create uncertainty in the Treasury market and lead to higher Treasury borrowing costs. GAO estimated that delays in raising the debt limit in 2011 led to an increase in Treasury’s borrowing costs of about $1.3 billion in fiscal year 2011. However, this does not account for the multiyear effects on increased costs for Treasury securities that will remain outstanding after fiscal year 2011. Further, according to Treasury officials, the increased focus on debt limit-related operations as such delays occurred required more time and Treasury resources and diverted Treasury’s staff away from other important cash and debt management responsibilities.
Didn’t Ryan also invest in something that was meant to pay him handsomely if the economy tanked?
Well, he did do a bit of insider trading after he attended a high level meeting about the economic meltdown.

I know a few of our friends on Twitter were concerned that PBO was not hard enough on Ryan in his speech today. But I say, have no fear! PBO knows a thing or two about Ryan and he probably knows that Ryan will self-implode eventually, never mind the MSM love- fest that’s going on right now. I keep going back to the 2008 campaign when Palin was first selected by McCain.
// Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama described Palin as someone with a “terrific personal story” and said her new status as McCain’s running mate as “one more hit against that glass ceiling.”
“I haven’t met her before, (but) she seems like a compelling person,” Obama said on Friday, at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. “I congratulate her and look forward to a vigorous debate.” //
PBO says “nice” things about politicians when he knows they are going no where FAST. And that’s the case with Paul Ryan. It’s less than 48 hrs since his VP selection has been announced, so lets give it a bit of time, while he and the MSM crash and burn over the next month or two….
He’s simply setting the stage for a clean and fair fight, and then he will go in and CRUSH him.
Really, I don’t see what the big deal is. PBO knows how to wind the coil very tight and then let it unwind good and fast.
Some people LIVE to second guess PBO and his team. I’ve learned to ignore their nonsense and marvel at the MASTER do his thing. How many times does PBO have to prove himself before they learn to respect his way of doing things? He is not the rude, impulsive loudmouth some wish he were. PBO is always classy and never panicked. He will dismantle Mitt/Ryan in due time.
Axelrod and Stephanie were not exactly nice to Ryan.
Me thinks, he let his surrogates display a first salvo.
The rest will follow. He has patience. So do I.
I know a few of our friends on Twitter were concerned that PBO was not hard enough on Ryan in his speech today.
These folks haven’t figured out PBO yet? He never goes hard at first. He waits for them to lay all their cards out. He’s told us a gazillion times, he’s a counter puncher. And he will CRUSH THEM!!!

That’s right izonprize. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I read one of the comments from a McCain/Palin supporter in response to that same article I linked.
// 9/5/2008 8:38:15 AM
How exciting this election has become with McCain having picked Palin for V.P. I couldn’t help but take notice this past week, as not only my wife, but my 19 year old daughter were cheering the TV set much like you’d see for a Super Bowl game, but what is really amazing, is how determined these women in my family are to see Palin succeed and how proud they are of her!!!
My daughter never before really expressed much of an interest in voting and I’d have probably had to get her to the polling place, but now, all she is looking forward to, is voting for the first time and that’s just an example of the excitement Palin is creating across the country.
Everything usually works out for the best and I’m sure McCain and Palin will win the election, in November, but I must admit, I’m still shaking my head in disbelief that the Dems let Hillary sink in their own self made quick sand. Is this all just destiny or are the Democrats just truly incompentent? What does it matter I guess, because in the end, America Wins with McCain and Palin!!! //
Maybe “these folks” are too young or have forgotten the old “rope-a-dope” of Muhammad Ali. It why I love the poster with PBO pointing and saying “Chill the Fu*K out. I got this!
I am with you, Isonprize!
After four (actually eight years) one would think that these people would know President Obama by now. They always underestimate him – which is like saying they don’t think he knows what he’s doing. I’m not sure how many times he’s going to have to prove himself to some people. It’s getting tiring. I know people are probably nervous that the GOP always seem to have a leg up, but they really need to have more faith and stay focused.
EXACTLY, ison! When I read it..I kinda chuckled to myself knowingly because there’s PObama doin’ his thing. Real mellow..bringing them in and… BAM BAM BAM.
Float like a butterfly……..sting like a bee ! Wish folk would use memory as a guide and not get so upset when PBO is doing his thang, killin’ em with kindness, before he goes nuke on their asses.
Exactly. This election seems to be 2008 REDUX, with a few minor differences.
I actually didn’t see your comment before I wrote mine. We think alike.
Good evening all. Interesting article in today’s Philly Inquire
Investigation: election day fraud “virtually nonexistent”
By Natasha Kahn and Corbin Carson
FOR THE INQUIRER
A new nationwide analysis of more than 2,000 cases of alleged election fraud over the last dozen years shows that in-person voter impersonation on Election Day, was virtually nonexistent.
The analysis of 2,068 reported fraud cases by News21, a Carnegie-Knight investigative reporting project, found 10 cases of alleged in-person voter impersonation since 2000.
With 146 million registered voters in the United States, those represent about one for every 15 million prospective voters.
Concerns over voter impersonation has prompted 37 state legislatures, including Pennsylvania’s, to enact or consider tougher voter-ID laws. Pennsylvania’s law has been challenged in court and a decision is expected this week.

I sent 60 minutes a email, and I told them that Bob Scheiffer was a disgrace. I told them that Mike Wallace would have never told Romney or Ryan to say whatever they like and he will pretend he is asking questions.
Wallace would have ask about Romney tax returns, but Scheiffer is acting like a senile old fool.
It’s particularly offensive how they suck up to the Romney camp when you think about how they disrespect the President when they interview him. I can’t stand it!
Ryan said Sunday he released “several years” of returns in the vetting process and would release two years publicly.…
Oh, how nice. Are you ok with that?
NO! I am not ok with that. President Obama and Vice President released 12 years of their tax returns. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan should do the same. If they don’t then they must have something to hide. I am sick and tired of the media giving Romney a pass.
ROMNEY/RYAN: THE DYNAMIC DUO OF TAX EVASION
No, Romney/Ryan, It’s Not a Deficit Problem But Rather a Masssive Tax Avoidance Problem
Over and over the Dynamic Duo of Tax Evasion (because they both encourage it by their policies) have separately deceived Americans concerning trickle down “economics,” which is nothing more than a blatant scheme to steal from the poor and middle class. Whatever deficit problem we have isn’t really the deficit per se. It is a massive tax avoidance problem by the acolytes of and by the uber wealthy. Every single cut Paul Ryan makes with his draconian budget masks that the pols supporting this condone Robin Hood in reverse. They steal from you, or at least 99% of you and hand it over to the already rich.
In her backgrounder on Paul Ryan, Andrea Mitchell of NBC told the audience that: Paul Ryan studied economics. And (are you ready for this): He read Ann Rand. BTW, Mitchell is the significant other of Alan Greenspan, who learned his “economics” from a 10th rate novelist and helped steer the economy into the ditch. My God, do they still not get that she was a fiction writer, and a crappy one at that??????
Okay, I just got an email from my 80+ year old parents. I sent them the YouTube Video of the 72 year old man being arrested at a Town Hall. The CBO Score of the Ryan Budget, and The Actual Ryan Plan in PDF format. This is the response I got from my mom:
Thanks for all the info on Paul Ryan, he is NOT someone who I want in the white house. I just can’t believe that the Republicans couldn’t pick someone else. Medicare is just fine for us but I do pay $189.00 a month for the 20% that Medicare does not cover and there are many out there who can’t afford that. It covers prescriptions but no dental or optical. Evan though I am not thrilled with Obama, I can’t go along with Romney’s beliefs on women’s rights or gays and I think most people will agree.
I ‘m so glad that you keep informed and are the intelligent woman that I always knew you were.
So proudmember, is this a vote for Obama/Biden? I hope.
Yes. They never sit home for an election.
Good job, proud. Please ask your parents to spread this news to their friends and their friends and not to trust one word from pox news and teann.

Welfare, Work and America’s Governors
By The White House
This morning, former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty appeared on ABC and discussed the letter he signed (pdf) along with 28 other Republican Governors asking for more flexibility administering programs that move Americans from welfare to work. Here’s what he said:
“Governors like me and other Republican governors wanted more flexibility generally, but no — none of us wanted to waive or dismantle the work requirement within the landmark welfare reform legislation of the 1990s. And it would be very easy for the president to clear up this controversy. If he’s saying he’s not as part of his directive going to rescind or undermine the work requirements, then just clarify that part of it…”
We agree with Governor Pawlenty: no one wants to waive or dismantle the work requirement within the landmark welfare reform legislation of the 1990s. Secretary Sebelius made clear in a letter to Congressional leaders that Governors could have more flexibility operating their welfare programs only if their plans move more people from welfare to a job. And she reiterated that any proposals from Governors that undermine the work requirement would be rejected. Here’s what she said:
“The Department is providing a very limited waiver opportunity for states that develop a plan to measurably increase the number of beneficiaries who find and hold down a job. Specifically, Governors must commit that their proposals will move at least 20% more people from welfare to work compared to the state’s past performance. States must also demonstrate clear progress toward that goal no later than one year after their programs take effect. If they fail, their waiver will be rescinded. And if a Governor proposes a plan that undercuts the work requirements established in welfare reform, that plan will be rejected.”
Moving more Americans from welfare to work is a goal we all share and the Administration’s proposal will maintain a strong work requirement while giving Governors the chance to implement programs that put more Americans back to work.

Campaigning in Beverly Hills, First Lady tells crowd that the President is “not Spider-Man…not a superhero,” and advises that he will “accept votes” from the elementary school set…
Michelle Obama Courts Kid Vote at Gwen Stefani Fundraiser
2 hours, 1 minute ago
No doubt, first lady Michelle Obama had a fun and lucrative Sunday at the Beverly Hills home of singer Gwen Stefani.
Obama, on a West Coast fundraising swing for her husband’s re-election campaign, mingled with supporters and delivered a keynote address at a $2,500-per-family event on the lawn beside Stefani’s outdoor pool. It was billed as a “Sunday of Fun” on invitations to donors.
Organizers provided fake tattoos on the tennis court for kids, while platters of roasted meats and cookies sat on tables by the hot tub for parents, according to press pool reporters on scene.
Bandmates from No Doubt sat in the crowd, many with children on their laps. Stefani’s children – Kingston, 6, and Zuma, 3, – were also there. Her husband, singer Gavin Rossdale, was said to be on tour in Europe, a campaign official said.
Given her audience, Obama delivered a kid-focused pitch for her husband’s campaign.
“Barack can’t do it alone. He’s not Spider-Man. He’s not a superhero. He’s a human, so we need your help,” she said.
“I am not just talking to the adults here today. I am talking to the young people here as well. All of our young people – you might not be old enough to vote. You vote at school, I know – I met several young people who are going to be voting for my husband, who are 10 and under – we accept those votes,” she said. “But you can play an important role in this election, too. I want you all to feel empowered.”

for a little context…mccain/palin’s first appearance after their debut was in the same area as rmoney/lyan’s first appearance today. keeping in mind everything every republican says is a lie, so these numbers are much smaller in reality, but failn supposedly drew 12,000 people to an area where no one had even heard of her 2 weeks earlier, and today paul lyan had supposedly 7,000 to his home area. major fail.
it’s interesting to look at news reports back then and how much fluffing they were doing already, and how pathetic they did even with all the media promotion (and of course how $arah failn isn’t even asked to speak at their convention 4 years later:
I remember one Palin event where they had over 60,000 people in Florida. My guess is that neither Ryan or Romney will reach that level.
That was at an outdoor event in The Villages in Florida which was held while a big festival was going on at the same time. Most of the people were not there exclusively for her.
Palin’s still stealing other people’s audiences – also too the 60,000 was probably a wild over estimate – the GOP isn’t too good with numbers
