Remember this from last month?

I work for The Villages, a large retirement community in Central Florida, and one of the top 20 privately held corporations in the state. My employer records annual sales of over $1 billion dollars, and the company’s CEO, H. Gary Morse, is a multi-millionaire (possibly even a billionaire).
In contrast, the company’s employees are underpaid and have no benefits. I haven’t had a raise in six years. I am a part-time hourly employee, which means no paid vacation and no paid sick leave. This year, thanks to cuts in my hours, I’m on track to gross less than $10,000.
…. I checked my mail box and found a letter from my employer.
To our entire Villages Team:
The Villages is a great example of the “American Dream” come true. Together, we have created jobs, established businesses, founded an award-winning school and set the standard for enjoyable, affordable retirement living.
Only in America could such a community be created … but that America will soon disappear if we don’t change the leadership in Washington, D.C.

Today:
LA Times: …. Paul Ryan’s initial campaign visit to Florida was to The Villages, a hotbed of Republican retirees. Residents were encouraged to arrive in their golf carts for the outdoor rally Saturday.
Hundreds of supporters jammed one of the development’s “town squares,” where free entertainment and boozy dances each night have helped this community of 60,000 seniors earn a somewhat double-edged reputation as Disney World for the Cialis set.
Open-air bars at the event began pouring before 8 a.m. Happy-hour pricing was in effect: $2.75 for a 14-ounce margarita. However, a Chick-fil-A stand did a brisker business.
The privately held, and tightly controlled, retirement complex is a regular campaign stop for GOP presidential candidates…..
Romney counts billionaire H. Gary Morse, who built The Villages on more than 30 square miles of central Florida farmland, among his campaign’s biggest donors. A co-chairman of Romney’s Florida finance committee, Morse, family members and their corporation have already given more than $1 million to the Romney campaign and the “super PAC” supporting him….

Scum of the earth.

Hello
Does this mean that mama RAyn is not off limits?
I mean she inserted herself into the campaign, right?
yes cookemom, you are right indeed. Now we’ll just talk among ourselves until the others join us.
These folks will not be affected, whether they get medicare or not. They appear to be all upscale folks who do not have to worry about medicare. I can’t wait until next week to get Rhandi Rhodes’ take on this.
I get very frustrated tuning into her show only to hear she’s off and that awful, whiny, annoying Nicole Sandler is filling in.
I mean, I get that people need breaks but Randi seems to be off a lot.
I hope she’s back next week but I’m getting to where I feel what’s the point of tuning in anymore.
And if you are going to pick a fill in, can’t she at least find someone better that Nicole Sandler?
I want the kiss cam..I want the kiss cam pic
don’t have a kiss scam picture but since we were so close her’s a big old fat, mmmmmmwwwwwhhhhhaaaa!
I swear that didn’t look like that ^^^ when I hit the post comment button.
Yo! Quick stop by to see if y’all are behaving….. Won’t be able to stay long enough to find out! Byeeeeeee……
So Ryan got ” hundreds” out of 60,000 that live in The Villages ?
hahahhaaaaaa
Was Kantor, Knoller, or Chuckie there letting us know about the thousands who showed up for Ayn Rand’s man.
Eggsacklee. lolol I thought the same thing LInda. I want to know actual headcount. Was it 900? Or was it 250? What was it?
60,000 rich white seniors?
Drinking margaritas at 8am and eating Chic-fil-A? ACK, that’s just freakin’ gross. You know, it’s good they round themselves all in one place and stay there. UGH.
This, Meta. How gross is that. Like I said, they could care less about medicare.
Apparently! So glad I live in the real world.
No, these people don’t depend on Medicare, these are well to do white people who will be just fine if Romney -Ryan destroy Medicare.
Rich seniors who need medicare too. They are paying a bargain amount to buy into medicare opposed to buying from the insurance company directly at a premium. I noticed the 73yr old was a “public” worker and probably also has a very good state government pension. Like someone said on an earlier thread his attitude is, “I got mine the hell with everyone else”.
100+ Who wants to associate with a bunch of mean drunks? These guys who always want to build fences should build a twelve foot one around that place.
How about Ryan and his Mom go to an area of seniors who really does DEPEND on Medicare.
Not rich—-moderately priced homes from $100,000——-retired car salesmen etc.—–barely middle class retirement community.
Number 1?
There must be a time delay to the West Coast, dang it!
Wow that dKos post was very powerful. CEO like Morse withhold benefits from their employees and then have the gall to ask for a RR donation? Beyond infuriating.
Thanks for the picture, Chips, you too Cookemon.
THIS right here:

Bob and Bill – I tell ya, I’m 50 now but when I was in high school Ayn Rand was the “cool” thing to read. I read all of her stuff. Then as I got older I realized through life experience and what I found out about Rand what a flipping sociopath she was. Now I see the young folks at my work who think Ayn Rand is the bees knees and I just smdh. And these politicians who idealize her – wow.
History repeats itself.
thanks for tweeting these things gentlemen will RT.
ChristiMTL was busy into the wee hours last night uncovering a link between that anti-Obama SEAL who appeared on Tweety’s show last night and Bain Capital.
I have no idea how close the two companies are, but at this point it seems all the Repub surrogates, families and politicians are either lobbyists or private equity vultures.
And here’s a nugget (without a link, unfortunately) about another anti-Obama SEAL (from LAT reporter @KenDilanian):
Arapaho415, I think you and ChristiMTL, need to send this information to Chris Matthews and anyone else you want too. All the news stations, CNN, ABC, CBS,NBC, MSNBC. Anyone who will listen to these phony lying swiftboaters.
Ah, I was just going to post this so thank you rikyrah!
So, I’ll just add this …
Sure hope they invite him to the Inauguration Ball & to President Obama’s 2013 SOTU!
Better yet, get that man out on TV and give him the same attention these ex-SEAL/Obama haters do.
Bobfr, what about sending off a note to Senators Al Franken or Amy Klobuchar of MIN., to interview him on a show with them. What do you think?HZ
At 92 yrs Young. This GI is still looking Great. God Bless him.
Did you catch him say “I have six children, so far.” I LOVE THIS GUY!!
Isonprize, I caught that also. It made my heart smile. What a beautiful 92 young Obama 4 More Years!!HZ
This guy is A-MAZING!!! Do you know he’s also a world class athlete?!?!?!?!? I found out from a link on Old Orange and I’m posting the link here:
http://time-to-run.us/masters/decathlon-masters-record-for-maxwell
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Maxwell_(athlete)
What a wonderful guy! Now I know why he looks so good with such a sharp mind; it’s all that running and exercising. What an inspiration? I can no longer blame my avoidance of regular exercise to old age.
What a man! I love how his voice got so powerful at the end when he shouted “4 More Years” again and again!
I’m with you Judge Maxwell — FOUR MORE YEARS!!!!
Fantastic!!
I love this! Pops is fierce, witty, and well-informed. 92? This is hard to believe.
Thanks for finding and sharing this.
Bravo to the elderly soldier. A grand salute to him. 4 More Years
A Standing Ovation!!!! What a delightful, honest and open elderly graceful gentleman. I love him. He had to be a great judge in his day. I thank him for his service to our country and for his service on the bench.
Love this very much. He needs a WH visit, a seat at the Inauguration in 2013, an invite to speak with Axe, Jim, and Stephanie for sure. Bobfr, I hope they will give him a call for sure. HZ
Hello, Mr. Morse? FUCK YOU. What a disgusting sack of festering weasel rectums.
LOL. He has mad security all over Him, just like POTUS.
Ahhh…The Villages: “Disney World for the Cialis Set.” The most disgusting image just popped into my mind and that was before I read about how they were scarfing down food from homophobia hate central aka Chick-Fil-A.
They’re all disgusting. From Mr. Morse downwards.
I am watching the Hunger Games. Is Ryan in this Movie?
Paul Ryan’s hypocrisy and the Romney/Ryan Vision for our Country
By Time For Change
———————————-
Putting Romney’s choice of Ryan into perspective
Bouie summarizes Ryan’s vision and Romney’s decision to choose him as a running mate:
He (Ryan) wants to rid the United States of social insurance. In Ryan’s world, if you suffer any misfortune, you’re on your own. If you weren’t born with the advantages of wealth and privilege, you’re on your own. If you want clean air, clean water, safe products, and protection from abusive employers – you guessed it – you’re on your own….
Romney chose Ryan to send a message: This election is about ideas, and if you elect me, these are the ideas I’ll pursue. It’s a radical vision for America, and it’s now the official platform of the Republican Party. Romney’s prior moderation shouldn’t fool you into thinking otherwise.

It’s a replay of his NH event.
That good I missed the first. I did wonder at the time. Thanks
This is from a parody account but still apropos in terms of this thread.
Ha!
President Obama’s arrival at Andrews AFB – http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
Goo evening, Please tell me how to post on your website. I was posting, but my comments always showed up as pending. I never saw them go through. I am a devout supporter for our Presdent, and plan to do physical work for getting out the vote. I give to the fund monthly (automatic deduction). I was trying to post yesterday and today, now my information doesnt come or show pending. Please explain the procedures because I thought that if you were a supporter-you could post. Thank you in advance, cindy
Hi Cindy, many thanks for visiting. You’ll see the guide to commenting here:
http://theobamadiary.com/how-do-i-comment-here/
I replied to you earlier, when you signed in under a different name (Butterball3), explaining that I didn’t let your comments through because your first attempted contribution here started “I’m a President Obama supporter, but…..”, going on to detail why you thought it would be so hard for him to beat the GOP machine in November.
You can’t really blame me for wondering if you were a troll!
If you have a long-standing Twitter account, for example, please use that to sign in.
Thanks.
Hey Chips, I hope you watch this person who woould start any conversation about PBO with a negative.
Yup..and I think Chips is definitely on the ball!
#GrifterPalin in 2008 way outperformed #CouponRyan at The Villages …
Can you believe the nerve of the Boston Globe. Perpetuating the double standard BS.
Oh ut – this is EXCELLENT pushback. Thanks!
I also sent him a few tweets as well. There have been several prominent Republican political figures including former vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, former GOP primary candidate and RNC Convention speaker, Rick Santorum, congresswoman Michelle Bachman, and current GOP Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, who have repeatedly invoked negative references to slavery, race, ethnicity in their comments and speeches. Yet I have not seen any demands from major media outlet editorials asking for their apologies.
This is yet another example of how the MSM is trying to bully this campaign, and we’re not having any of it. None whatsoever.
awesome UT way to push back!
Boston Globe??? I don’t get it?
They have no business interfering – I don’t see them asking for any apologies when PBO and his family have been repeatedly insulted and attacked by Republicans and others in the MSM.
Tweet THAT to them – I beg you.
Trying to listen to PBO on span. It directs me to the video, but it’s not his speech ; it’s something with the Heritage Foundation.
Any ideas as to why?
Hiya Eve, here you go:
Go here and click the links on the right:
http://www.c-span.org/Events/President-Obama-Campaigns-in-New-Hampshire/10737433194/
Yes, Chips, this is what I have been doing. The legend reads President speaks in N.H., but it shows the HF discussion. I have contacted
Cspan.
Wonder if it has something to do with using the IPad?
It might be your iPad. I clicked on the link and was able to access PBO’s speech on the right as Chips directed.
So…, 60k Tea Baggers?
Quite a number of ‘em, but I doubt all. Used to live not far from The Villages, and I worked years ago with a couple of the current residents when we all lived in NJ – they are not wealthy and are definitely not Tea Baggers or Republicans. So, that’s 2. Not totally sure of the other 59,998, but I doubt it!!!!
Jovie & Jacqueline, the turnout was way less than for Palin in 2008 …. certainly no where near the total # of inhabitants … see comment above:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/08/18/ah-mr-morse/#comment-457058
Thanks, Bobfr – I think Jovie and I were both kidding about the number!
Gotcha … so let’s direct a little kidding toward #RomneyRyan
Any old time, I’m in for that!!
Not all 60K attended. 60K seniors live in that community. A few hundred attended. Because the MSM specifically said “a few hundred” I would interpret that to be under 500 people. I am still looking for actual headcount.
(VIDEO) WHAT PBO MEANT BY CHANGE – “THE NEW NEW DEAL” BY MICHAEL GRUNWALD
By Jared Bernstein
————————————–
I was lucky enough to sit down with the author of this important new book about the Recovery Act. I’ll be writing a lot on Grunwald’s book in coming weeks. It’s by far the most careful, balanced look at both the politics and the economics around this widely misunderstood piece of legislation.
———————————-
http://jaredbernsteinblog.com/talking-new-new-deal-with-mike-grunwald-%E2%80%94-live-2/
NOTE; I can’t wait to get this book. It sounds like the author goes a long way in debunking the myths about the Recovery Act. It sounds like the book will be a real eyeopener. Very informative and a terrific read.
One of my siblings was telling about this author. She told me that this author was either on Lawrence O’Donnell or on another MSNBC show. I did see the show. But my sister claimed that this past Monday, was the day this author came to LOD show. I can’t wait to get the book too.
Also, last night on the Rachel Maddow Show, he went there and Called Politico out as another rag….my word…. for TBGOPers. Today, Mediaite has the story. That was a Great dig on Mourning Joke and Andrea Mitchell and the many MSNBC that parade these Politico Dick Cheney stenography rag.
Ladyhawke, thanks for posting this. I ordered the book on pre-order, and I received it a day early. What a pleasant surprise. I have started reading my copy, and I must say so far, it is a great read!
I would say, get a copy and sit back and take your time and enjoy. I read a little each night, and it is really an excellent read so far for sure. HZ
Note for any Marylanders here: Boy, your Democratic State Attorney General, Douglas Gansler, who’s also President of the National Association of AGs, is adorable. He was just on C-Span One. So nice to see normal people out on the national stage who actually appear to have brains and decency, oh, and, look: they’re all Democrats!
We’re REALLY lucky here in Maryland. Governor O’Malley, Reps. Chris Van Hollen, Steny Hoyer, etc. We have some pretty good people working on our behalf.
I like your Sr Senator. She is short, but with a punch. I just like her a lot.
Yes, Senator Barbara Milkulski(sp) I love her so much. She stands up for what she believes in with great grace. She is a great supporter of POB and will let you know it in a minute. I love how she and Senator Patrick Leahy of Vt. are so passionate about speaking out in support of the president. Love those two plus Sen. Boxer!!HZ
Yes, you do! Almost wish I lived there …
Maybe it’s not luck so much as Marylanders being informed and intelligent enough to make smart choices whey they vote?
Gwen Ifill is pissed that she was Snubbed. I can’t say that I blame her. Candy Crowley is picked and so is Bob Schieffer…….Really? In a nation of 313M with the 1st president who is Black…..50M Latinos, 40M Blacks, over 10M Asians are Nothing and were disrespected by the 98% Caucasian Journos that cover this president?
100M people NOT one representative? That is so wrong in 2012. When would the media reflect the population of USA?
That’s like MSNBainC, they have 5-1 Black Republicans in this channel.
And yet, some would argue, the AA community is the Base of the Democratic party.
SMH!
5-1 Black Republicans? I can Only think of Michael Steele and the Gay TBGOPer, who had worked for Newt and Romney? I don’t know his name.
They have too many Caucasian who are TBGOPers.
OK, I get it another is Michelle Bernard, Jasper Joe John’s soon to be ex-wife. Then Chritie…..the guy with one eye….problem. That is 4 total. I am missing the 5th one.
Black Dems. Al Sharpton. Eric Dyson. Mr. Boikin(sp). Karen Finney. Jonathan Capehart. Melissa Perry. Etc.
Tamron
…Joy Ann Reid , Charles Blow…
Thank you…..Tamron Hall, why did I forget her? I like her. Joy Ann Reid. Bacon….that used to work for Washington Post, now works for Greo.com…..still WashPo….but online. There are at least two more. A former Dem strategist. His name escapes me. Now, if they will hire Joe Williams…..I will be glad. I like the guy.
Also Eugene Robinson
Didn’t Gwen do one of the debates before?
She did the Vice Presidential debates.
Yes….didn’t Jim Lehrer do if not all of them for 16-20 yrs now? Ifill was Not even considered. That is what she is livid about.
Actually, she did the VP debate. The MSm is bragiing how Crowley is the first female in forever to host a Presidential debate. They don’t even mention Ifill as part of that equation in any capacity. This is the same thing as the Sunday morning shows. Take a look around the table, all of the networks are guilty.
Ifill did the VP debates, not the presidential, and there have been other women before Ifill who did the VP debates. So technically, they’re right about Crowley being the first female to host the Presidential debates.
My point is that Ifill has every right to be upset. Imo, she, or any of the other women who hosted a VP debate should at least have been considered, as a normal progression of things. Having Crowley as the first female to host a Presidential debate in 2012 is nothing to brag about. There have been many women who should have done this by now. I still maintain that it’s keeping the Sunday morning representation in tact.
I agree. She should be upset.
Carroll Simpson did a debate when i was much younger. I don’t remember if it was for the VP or presidential debate.
You are correct: Simpson was the first woman and minority moderator of the second presidential debate held between George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot, at Richmond, Virginia, in 1992.[1] – Wikipedia.
This makes the MSM lauding Crowley as the first woman even more insulting.
Thank you. I remembered watching it. I don’t remember what were asked or said. I just remembered listening to that deep nasal voice of Ms. Simpson. Thank you for the information.
This is what is so wrong about our media today. They are touting Crowley as the 1st Female…..what does that make Ms. Simpson now? Is she Not a female?
Tweet that to the TeaNN fucks including Crowley. I can’t stand her.
As many people here have been saying the current MSM have some of the laziest people. It’s no wonder a great many people are uninformed.
Didn’t Oprah do one of the debates ? I vaguely remember her doing one.
No Amk….She didn’t….But I do know that you are kidding……I love your jokes. I do get many of them.
No, I am serious.
Yes she did the VP debate.
I understood that the Romney camp threatened to boycott the debates if any political correspondent who works on MSNBC was selected to moderate the debates. Now, knowing them, I wouldn’t be surprised if behind closed doors, there was also an agreement to not have any Black or Hispanic or other ethnic/racial minority moderator. Of course this would never be reported, but we know with Mitt Romney, secrecy and underhandedness is the order of the day, and I’m not putting ANYTHING past him or the corporate media that work at his behest.
THIS^^^^
I don’t and will Never believe that pres Obama or his camp would agree for a person of Color to be eliminated as a questioner. That I am sorry would Never be agreed to. Pres Obama is Not the one in need of a debate before the Nov 6, elections. Just my observation.
Who said anything about President Obama? I’m talking about Mitt Romney.
I know what you said hopefuit2. I am saying that Romney saying that, pres Obama would Never agree to such demand. The exclusion of a person of color. I am making an observation.
President Obama does not have ultimate control over who gets to moderate debates. That is the corporate media’s decision. The debate moderators are media figures, not government employees, therefore, while the President can make suggestions and object to certain things, ultimately the buck stops with Bossman at corporate media world.
No, both parties have to agree to the fornat, topics, and moderators. Should I go find the resource for that, or doesn’t that make more sense than saying Mitt gets to make the defacto final call due to his megabucks. Again, where are you getting your information?
Yes they have to agree to the format, topics and moderators as they are explicitly discussed.
But that’s not what my original comment about Mitt Romney was getting at.
Isn’t Rachel Maddow on board for one of the debate?
No, she is not moderating any of the debates. There was a petition circulating around, but I guess the Romney camp made threats and got their way.
I agree with Nena20409. For this to have happened, in whole or in part, says that PBO’s campaign would willingly allow Mitt to call the shots. That’s not remotely how PBO operates. Where did you get that from? That’s like saying PBO caved to the Mitt powers that be. This is not a very fair way to portray PBO and his campaign folks.
Thank You cookemom…..you said it well. Better. Thank you.
I trust President Obama to be able to carry himself regardless who is asking the questions. Black, white or blue, this President know what he is doing.
President Obama will be prepared, we can count on that.
I never said or implied anything about President Obama caving in to anyone. If you and Nena are naive enough to believe that Mitt Romney doesn’t have a special billion-dollar relationship with the corporate media – I have a bridge to sell you under the the Brooklyn Bridge.
//The Romney campaign objected to MSNBC because of its liberal bent and threatened to boycott if one of its anchors was selected.//
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/18/us/criticism-greets-list-of-debate-moderators.html
You do know that both campaigns have to agree on the format/s and moderators, right? Just because you didn’t mention PBO doesn’t mean that inherently you aren’t slamming his campaign for not standing up to Mitt’s demand to exclude moderators based on race or media affiliation. I read the link in your article. I may have missed it, but I couldn’t find anywhere in it that said Mitt demanded and got his way on the moderators. Maybe you can cut and paste that paste that part for me. Naivety is not the reason that I’m asking you to show us where you got your information. You are implying that PBO and his staff would go along with the parameters of the debate because of Mitt’s influence. I don’t see it that way.
I got information from the NY Times article that I linked here, that Mitt Romney threatened to boycott the debates if any political anchors from MSNBC were chosen. I then speculated that Mitt Romney and his corporate media friends may have privately agreed (with each other) that there would be no people of color moderating. I never said or implied one way or the other what that meant for President Obama in terms of his agreeing or not.
My line of thinking is that there are a million and one ways to exclude moderators of color without explicitly doing so. It is always codified. And it is done in such a way as to neuter the other side’s attempts to make any accusations of exclusion based on race, or ethnicity.
Okay, I went back and reread the article. I did find this piece:
“Fox News, which is the only independent television network that has not been selected to have one of its anchors host a debate, made an aggressive push this year. The commission sent signals that the network was in strong contention, people familiar with the process said, but that changed in the last month. The Obama campaign raised questions about the network because of its conservative leanings. The Romney campaign objected to MSNBC because of its liberal bent and threatened to boycott if one of its anchors was selected”
This makes my point, both parties get to say who does what. It is not as one-sided as the picture you paint. Mitt threatened to boycott for MSNBC, PBO said no to FOX, neither will be moderating. That’s my point, Mitt got no more than what was due him, the right to refuse. Just because he used the threat to boycott in his usual bullying manner, did nothing to change the procedure. PBO didn’t have to threaten anything. He just simply objected as any person acting professionally would.
MSNBC is not the “left” equivalent of FOX news. I would say that more than 50% of their programming has a conservative bent. So no, it’s not all “fair and balanced” as you may think.
Candy Crowley and Bob Scheiffer are NOT objective where President Obama and Romney are concerned. Now that doesn’t mean that PBO cannot overcome this bias – he has been doing so for the last 5 years since he announced his candidacy in 2007. I’m just saying that the corporate media is towing the conservative line; Mitt Romney is their current political representative and his desires and demands take priority over anything else.
HF2, this has nothing to do with my point. I was merely pointing out that both parties get right of refusal. Both parties can choose to exercise that right. In this case, both parties did and their objections were honored. That’s all I was pointing out. Nothing in what I said has anything to do with the content or personalities of the various media outlets. I said nothing of equivalencies, nor did you in your original post. You opined that due to Mitt’s money, his threat to boycott the debate, and undercover alliances, he got his way on the logistics of the debate. I say PBO would not have agreed to a debate based on demands under those circumstances, and as a result, Mitt didn’t have undue influence on the outcome.
Where Mitt Romney is concerned, I don’t believe my opinion is so far-fetched and in fact is very consistent with what many of us have believed and said here at TOD, Twitter and elsewhere at various times. I have never said or implied that PBO “agreed” to any thing that he didn’t want. However, I raised the possibility that the Romney camp in cohorts with the corporate media may have had an agreement privately, which in the presence of the Obama negotiators and others, was codified into certain parameters of the debate which, on the surface seem very reasonable, and could not be explicitly challenged as being exclusionary or biased in anyway.
Not naive hopefruit2. I am aware that the Corpoarte media and CNBC are with Romney. In that article…..pres Obama’s negotiators didn’t want any one from Fox. I had not read it yet. But my sister and I have discussed the Fox angle a couple of hours ago. My understanding is that copycat Romney objected to MSNBC when the Obama Team said No to Fox. That was my sister’s version. I have Not read the story yet.
Corporate …..I can’t spell. Sorry.
Yep. Not to mention that Candy shills for the Republicans. I really can’t stand her. She’s another David Gregory. Much of the time she doesn’t try to hide her bias.
Yep…..Candy Crowley is another David Gregory.
“I understood that the Romney camp threatened to boycott the debates if any political correspondent who works on MSNBC was selected to moderate the debates.”
really HF2?
Yup. See NY Times article link I posted or just google it.
Bam!
kapow!
Bobfr, I hope you don’t mind, I email this to Candy Crowley and David Gregory.
I just don’t like Politicos front page-
Sequestration ground zero. Fayette-Nam.
That is just wrong!
Who is Politico?
excellent donna
Very cool.
World war 2 Veteran, Judge Ralph Maxwell, 93 years old. May I just say I love you ?
Thanks for the video Rikyrah and Bobfr.
THE Koch brothers bought the Ryan nomination for $100,000,000.00.
I’ve seen this twice today, once at Booman and now at Kos.
Check it out: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/18/1121598/-Koch-Brothers-Bought-Ryan-s-Nomination-for-100-Million-Violation-of-Federal-Election-Laws
Is this significant?
Now would the media be jumping of this fellow to provide evidence? Would the national media even bother to investigate? Or would the MSM, bury the lede and pretend that nothing was said?
Roger Stone is a down and dirty GOP insider…….A Lee Atwarter type…..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Stone
oh…one more thing….He was the guy pushing the Michelle Obama ” Whitey ” tape. He is bad news….
Then the MORE reason for the national media to look into it. Obviously, the guy is No fan of pres Obama. And the media Loves to book those that dislike pres Obama. Oh yeah, when the anger is directed to their bishop, Willard Mitterrand Romney, the national media does a 180. Right. My bad.
Good Evening Obama Diary,
Just wanted to share a wonderful day of canvassing with you. I travelled with a group of volunteers from NY to PA last Saturday. we canvassed and did voter registration in North Philly. The experience was amazing. With the exception of the folks who were not home, every door was a Yes vote and a committed vote for the President. They all were aware of the ID law and everyone was prepared. One young man who was not on our list came out of his house to tell us that his whole house was registered,, had ID’s and were all supporting our President. The love and commitment from them was overwhelming. When we got back on the bus everyone had the same story. some folks were late getting back to the bus because they didn’t want to stop.. we all signed up to go back.. We got this !!
THis is the best effing News that I have heard all day. I missed both of PBO’s Live events. I was home all day. I have No excuse.
Thank you dpa70. Thanks for your work.
that’s awesome! Way to go dpa! thanks
This is some awesomeness right here. Thank you for sharing this story dpa70.
X 2
Thank you, dpa70! Great work and great news…we need this times millions
dpa70, THANKS FOR HELPING!!! We are on the ground in PA too. But any and ALL help from out of state, especially solid Dem states like New York is always appreciated. Next time, I hope that each of you comes back, AND BRING TWO FRIENDS WITH YOU!!!
LOVE YOU ALL even though I’ve never met you! Keep up the GREAT WORK!!
Great news! Keep up the good work! So happy to hear that the Philly folks are energized and getting their ID.
Good news that!!! Keep up the good work. This more than anything is what will put us over the top. “Corporations are people too my friend”, but they sure can’t actually vote. Feet on the street gets people to the polls.
Great for you to do this work for our President.
Outstanding. Thank you for your great work dpa and for sharing this inspiring story!
AWESOME work, dpa70!!!! I’m so grateful to you and your fellow PA residents for tackling this situation head on. FIRED UP!!
dpa70, thank you for that. Phillie needs to be fired up and ready on election so that voters can jump all the moronic hurdles put in their way. I hope the city comes out like it never did before and wipes the smug smiles off the faces of the voter suppressors.
LOOKIE HERE!! Mitt’s a union buster, too!!
http://guardianlv.com/2012/08/mitt-romney-may-have-involvement-in-unlawful-campaign-to-suppress-potential-union/
National Mediation Board document show Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney may have been involved in an unlawful campaign to suppress a potential union in the mid-1980s. The complaint leveled by Key Airline Pilots Association was filed on October 15, 1985 under Case No. R-5597. The complaint specifically argued against Key Airlines a company controlled and ran by Bain Capital according to court documents.
Key Airlines, an early investment for the private equity firm founded by a young Mitt Romney and two associates, broke the law by attempting to coerce and then dismiss two pilots who tried to organize a union. Two months after a union vote failed, Bain agreed to sell Key Airlines at a large profit.
“The anti-union activities in this case are not merely unfair labor practices as Key argues, but blatant, grievous, willful, deliberate and repeated violations of the Railway Labor Act,” Roger Foley, federal judge for the District of Nevada, wrote in 1992, in a case brought by two Key pilots.
The case illustrates an episode in Romney’s business career and raises questions about how it has prepared him to manage the US economy.

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!!
TRUE
Bobfr, Bill R. made a good point today about the fact the Romney/Ryan budget plan will be using MEDICARE VOUCHERS to fund TAX CUTS for MILLIONAIRES. Even some of the pundits on Fox know that this is a problem. Exactly how to you justify that? As President Obama said today the Romney/Ryan team are selling trickle down SNAKE OIL.
Check out Bill R. comment. I think this has promise:
———-Bill R. ———–
Great speech, great campaign event! Excellent riff on the Ryan plan to give Romney a less than 1% tax rate. We need to keep the word “Vouchers” front and center. Vouchers to fund tax breaks for millionaires. Medicare is the GOP piggy bank for tax breaks for the wealthy.

BOOK REVIEW: The New New Deal
President Obama’s stimulus has been an astonishing, and unrecognized, success, argues Michael Grunwald.
By David Plotz | Posted Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at 4:30 AM ET
———————————-
I don’t think my book portrays the Republicans as “vicious,” but I do show—thanks to a lot of in-depth interviews with GOP sources—how they plotted to obstruct Obama before he even took office. I show how the stimulus was chock full of stuff they claimed to support until Jan. 20, 2009—not just things like health IT and the smart grid and energy efficiency and scientific research, but the very idea of Keynesian stimulus. Every presidential candidate in 2008 proposed a stimulus package, and Mitt Romney’s was the largest. So I do spend a fair amount of time chronicling Republican stimulus hypocrisies. (Readers might enjoy the backstory of Sen. Judd Gregg’s short-lived nomination to be Obama’s commerce secretary.) In general, I’d have to say my reporting backs up the Norm Ornstein-Thomas Mann thesis that the Republicans have gone off the policy deep end—denying global warming, denying Keynesian economics (except when it comes to business tax cuts and defense spending!), trashing Obama’s government takeover of health care and also his Medicare cuts, drumming stimulus supporters like Crist and Specter out of the party. Then again, one Republican who comes off pretty well is Mark Sanford, a rare voice of honest small-government conservatism in the party. (He also says some pretty surprising things about his trip down the Appalachian Trail.)
I think there ought to be a great debate about the stimulus and its interventions in various sectors of the economy. But we haven’t had that debate. We’ve debated a bizarro-world stimulus that does not exist. And I think that’s true about Obama, too. I don’t think he comes across as “brilliant.” I think he comes across as a pragmatic left-of-center technocrat who wasn’t interested in pursuing lost causes, but basically tried to do what he said he would do during the campaign. He wasn’t a policy entrepreneur with new policy ideas, but he did his best to get 60 votes for old policy ideas that made sense, and then pushed his administration to put them into action as cleanly and competently as possible. And I did a lot of reporting in the bowels of the bureaucracy and around the country to show how change has been playing out.
I tried to tell the story as fairly and honestly as I could. But I didn’t try to be balanced for the sake of balance. When politicians were full of shit, I tried to point that out.

NOTE:
Do yourself a favor and read this entire article. It’s fantastic. For me, it is an indictment of the mainstream media that more Americans are not aware of the facts presented in this interview. I understand that the WH has a responsibility to toot their horn, but it is shameful that the lazy media stenographers have succumbed to the relentless negative noise from the Republican Party. However, I am grateful for the timing of Michael Grunwald’s book. I’ll take it, two and a half months before the presidential election. At least maybe we can get the attention of the American people long enough to educate them on the real success of the Recovery Act. The Recovery Act represents the change that President Obama was talking about. Spread the word. We have such a good story to tell.
I remember another thing. My sister also said that he had seen this author on C-SPAN early this morning and she had watched it. I know we have savvy technocrats here on TOD. Please, please find the tape and let Us share the heck around the web for this story. It needs to be told. I am going to see if I can find this tape and help in the search too. The guy confessed that he was not looking to praise the Obama team….but ended up having to render his conclusion as he found them. That the Recovery Act was well executed and that it did it’s job. Now that is Journalism 101.
Thanks nena. I’m also going to see if I can find the segment on Lawrence O’Donnell with Michael Grunwald.
I just did.

Awesome Bobfr. You are as always on the case. I was just sitting here thinking to myself that Michael Grunwald’s book was a GOLD MINE. Then I see you tweet to AXE and STEPH with my same sentiments. That’s what I love about our family, we are so on the same page. Thanks so much for the quick response on that tweet.

Ok..great article. Now I have to buy the book:)
Thank you ladyhawke for sharing this article. Finally a reporter who actually does an in-depth study and analysis instead of peddling sensationalism. I am definitely going to buy Michael Grunwald’s book.
Mobile digital campaigning is also changing political advertising, allowing candidates to woo voters while they wait in line at the supermarket and to target people with advertising when they attend large gatherings. On the first weekend in August, for example, tens of thousands of young people gathered near Grant Park in Chicago for a concert featuring Jack White, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the electronic-dance phenom Avicii. As a thunderstorm approached, many checked the weather on their phones, only to find at the top of the screen a display ad with a picture of kids dancing at a concert, overlaid by the words “Obama failed us. We can do better.” The ads were seen only by those at the concert and in the immediate vicinity. “We weren’t paying for the entire city of Chicago,” says Patrick Ruffini, the Republican digital consultant for Crossroads Generation, a conservative group that targets young people. Campaigns now have the ability to place mobile ads, often at a discount from desktop ads, anywhere large groups of targeted voters are gathering–on a college campus, at a NASCAR race or even at a parade in a swing neighborhood. “You will see a lot more of this in swing states,” he predicted. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2122255,00.html
As nasty as that sounds…it cuts BOTH ways:)
I’m not sure why they would target the demographic at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Those young folks who would attend that venue most likely would vote for PBO. They were probably very turned off by seeing that. This wasn’t exactly a gathering of the Young Gun Republicans.
BEST.VIDEO.EVER.
If anybody can Post PBO’s speech I’d sure appreciate it.

LOVE this video from last April:
I love this video also Meta. They should update it and bringh it out again.
“bring”.
Thanks meta. Like minds. I was thinking about this ad today and was planning to post it but I forgot. It’s one of my favorites. PBO just looks so GQ handsome walking in the beginning. He is the essence of cool. A leader and a statesman. The total package.
It sums up all the challenges and all the strides made so beautifully. I LOVE it.
Thanks Meta for reminding us of this great video. I’m sharing this again tonight with family & friends.
Amen to this! http://www.salon.com/2012/08/18/joe_biden_the_practically_perfect_vice_president/
In one of the more futile spin attempts we’ve seen so far in the long and frequently annoying 2012 campaign for the White House, Republicans last week decided to go after Joe Biden, with various conservatives even suggesting that a decision to replace him on the ticket was around the corner.
Of course, in real life, Biden’s place is absolutely secure, and not just because presidents from Dwight Eisenhower to Richard Nixon to George H.W. Bush learned that dumping a vice president isn’t as easy as one might think. None of that is relevant here. Why? Because Joe Biden is the practically perfect vice president. Truth is, he shouldn’t just stay on the ticket this time around; there’s a reasonable case to be made that he should stay on in 2016 and perhaps 2020, as well. He’s that good of a fit for the job.
I would love to see VP Biden go to Florida to speak about Medicare. I love my VP Biden and the Republicans fear him greatly.
Me too!! All over the Sunbelt states!
A good article on the whole. I do however disagree with its implication that VP Biden would not make a good President. I personally think Biden would be an excellent President. He is smart, passionate, honest, and cares deeply about people. If he decides to run in 2016 he will have my vote.
Really, you can’t make this stupidity up!
Oh Lord….so much for the VP requirement of “do no harm”….he’s a HARMFEST!
Freaking hell! he just admitted that sending people to war is great determiner of foreign policy experience! NOT ENDING WAR< OR KEEPING OUR ARMED FORCES FROM WAR….Sending people to DIE!
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/paul-ryan-on-foreign-policy-credentials-i-voted-to-send-people-to-war/
There's a video here I can't get to….what a stinking POS
Correction: Sending OTHER PEOPLE’S KIDS TO DIE
Some GOP pundit mentioned earlier that Ryan’s trips while Representative abroad would count for foreign experience also. I have not found evidence he was on any committees to garner foreign experience or took any trips to see the troops. Anyone know about this? Senator Obama served on a US Senate committee with VP Biden garnering foreign service experience. He also worked to end nuclear proliferation and majored in political science foreign affairs.
BUDGET GURU PAUL RYAN JUST CAN’T ACCEPT THE “FACT” THAT THE RECOVERY ACT “WORKED”.
Think Again: Obama’s New Deal
The president’s Republican critics are dead wrong. The stimulus worked.
—————————————–
Ultimately, the stimulus was the purest distillation of what Obama meant by Change We Can Believe In. It was about saving the economy from a calamity, but also changing the economy to prepare America to compete in the 21st century. On the trail, Obama often talked about cleaner energy, better schools, health reform, and fairer taxation not only as moral imperatives, but as economic prerequisites for American renewal and leadership. He warned that the United States couldn’t afford to let the green industries of the future drift abroad; or fail to prepare children for the information age; or lose control of skyrocketing health-care costs that were bankrupting families, companies, and the country. And the Recovery Act took steps — in some cases, giant steps — in all those directions. Nearly four years later, the stimulus has become a punch line, a talking point in a political battle over big government, but it’s moving America toward that hopey-changey policy vision he laid out during his last campaign.
In the end, the stimulus didn’t live up to the hype, but it made things better. That’s the whole point of change.

t Tampa can only do so much thanks to a toxic combination of hostility toward government, revenue and collectively used amenities. What’s the matter with Tampa? The Republican conventioneers will get to see for themselves when they arrive. Except that some of them will be staying up to 90 miles away from the convention venue. “Tampa’s reeeally spread out,” the host of the Politico discussion observed to Mayor Buckhorn. That it is. And because of this, the city has chartered over 400 buses to move the convention visitors around while they’re there. It’s an inconvenient, makeshift, make-do solution — the kind that’s necessary when you don’t plan and don’t invest — and a cautionary tale for America at large should a Romney-Ryan ticket reach the White House.
90 miles away, huh? Old geezers will be SLEEPING at that convention!

Perfect! Is there some kind of stencil for that? It looks AMAZING!
I know, right?! It’d be so cool to be driving along the road and see a house like that!
It really would! Even bigger than the thrill I used to get as a kid driving with my parents through PA or wherever and seeing those hex signs on the sides of barns…
http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/08/18/mitt-romney-profited-from-massive-medicare-fraud-while-at-bain-capital/
Hey! Mitt KNOWS FRAUD!!
it is no surprise that Romney favors waste and fraud since he and Bain Capital profited from such waste and fraud: Mitt Romney actually sat on the board of a company that plead guilty to charges of defrauding Medicare and agreed to pay the largest healthcare criminal fraud fine in history at the time – more than $35 million.
Yes, df. Damon Corp that he dumped on Corning the same month – August 1993 – that the Feds raided it. Remember this video:
I’ve tweeted about it extensively – and will be doing so again should #BainMitt emerge as the nominee

ROMNEY WANTS RYAN TO KEEP QUIET BECAUSE HIS MEDICARE VOUCHER PLAN IS TOXIC.
Romney wants running mate to play it safe, for now
by By STEVE PEOPLES
The Associated Press
————————————————–
Ryan, who wrote a plan to overhaul Medicare as chairman of the House Budget Committee, did not use the word “Medicare” with voters over the first four days as the vice presidential candidate. When he finally touched on the health care insurance program for seniors, he did so only in broad strokes after Romney himself first outlined the campaign’s talking points. We will not duck the tough issues,” Ryan said Friday in Virginia. “We will lead.”
But Ryan has been directed to avoid taking questions from reporters who travel with him, and to agree only to a few carefully selected interviews. He is known for sketching budget graphs on napkins to explain his ideas, but this past week it was Romney who used a white board during a news conference to help detail his own plan — one he says is virtually identical to Ryan’s.
.
.
Just don’t expect Ryan to start charting his Medicare plans on stage. His proposal to turn the guaranteed health care program for people 65 and over into a voucher-like system creates significant political challenges for the Romney-Ryan ticket — and for Republicans across the country. Many seniors don’t fully understand the proposal, and Obama’s re-election campaign is aggressively condemning the plan as something that would “end Medicare as we know it.”
That’s largely why Romney is easing Ryan into the debate. While Ryan explained his complicated plans at length during dozens of Medicare town hall-style meetings before becoming Romney’s running mate, those kinds of meetings probably are over because they’re considered too politically dangerous to continue.
Instead, Ryan is being encouraged to discuss his young children, his working-class background and his love of the outdoors as the American people get to know him.
