That’s right, brush it off, my brother. You’ve got this.
Helloooooooooooo vitaminlover!! How are ya doing?
Hellllooooo, Chips. It’s all good.
Good to hear VL
I like this picture. Every time we have a hard time while canvasing we think of when the President brushes off his shoulders. Then, we think if he can do it, so can we!
Congratulations on first place, ourmanflint!
MINNESOTA Woot
All is well … but Chips see my last comment on the previous thread and give it a try, it might revert everything to non-italics
I deleted it Bob, and everything seems fine ….. but I shouldn’t tempt fate. Thank you muchly, you kindest of Sirs!
You’re most welcome!
You genius you. But you made a big mistake, every time something goes wrong here from now on, I’ll be howling:
“Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb.”
wimmin, huh Bob ?
/ducks and runs.
amk sometimes I swear you like to start fires…. you better get a good team of secret servicemen at least till Nov 6
Oh, I got myself an elite team of secret servicewomen. No worries there.
Ourmanflint, this is amk’s theme tune:
Spent many a night in LA clubs in my misspent youth dancing to this song.
You punk you!
Notice I waited a long time to respond as I have strong survival instincts and know I can’t out run the gal who smashed a banana sandwich into a punks face when she was a wee 12 year old
First?
And not in italics? Okay then.
We were so leaning right. Sigh….
Fear not, we’re back in the center/centre!
Smart people
love the thumbs down for the lying bozo myth robme
I liked this Greed Obstructs Progress sign. So true.
If this were the Olympics I would not even have won a medal! I came in seconds too late
Aw, Hopefruit – here’s a Nobel prize medal for ya, just to cheer you up:
That works! Thanks Chips
I love this picture – and I loved the whole day.
And the hack reporters will suck that up too. POS with no self-worth,
His time is up.
Minnesota nice!!
ooooh, happy happy joy joy.
No more italics!! I never thought I’d see the day that TOD leaned RIGHT!!
Well Isonprize, I had a look at the Ryan Manifesto earlier tonight and there was a lot I liked – eg eradicate American-supporting Chelsea fans over 40. So, I thought it was time to lean right. Go Ryan!!!

That is one seriously delicious billboard, LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Needless to say: added to the post. Thank you Isonprize!
HEY!!!!!!
Mitt Romney is a THUG.
He is pure evil.
I’ve said those same words more than a few times these past few months.
UT, here’s the PBO sleep trainer video link in case you did not get it.

Thanks!
I can’t tell you how many times I have watch that ivillage video. I just love it.
FLOTUS is so real, so down to earth. She’s like us, she’s sitting there barefoot talking just like she is talking to a friend. It touch my heart when she said that POTUS told her how he went to check on baby Malia and she gave him that look of you’re killing me, but despite how hard it was POTUS remain strong. And after crying for about a hour baby Malia went to sleep. In the morning when he went to check on her, baby Malia gave Dad a loving smile. FLOTUS said she couldn’t have done it, she would have been the kind of Mother were 14 year old Malia would still be sleeping with her. It was just so lovely.
Very sweet!
Ha ha ha, my kind of people. Keep on reminding that tax dodger. Minnetonka rocks.
Here is a wonderful Tampa Florida welcome! h/t Wonkette

Holy Shit!
Oh wow. Tally and me squared up on this a while ago, and I love her so intensely I don’t want to fall out with her. But ….. I still believe, having read a book or two on this, that he is the greatest sporting fraud in history. If this is the end of the fraud – and I doubt it – it’s a beautiful day.
I just don’t know what to think about this. Would he give up the fight after so long if he was innocent?
Theo, I’m definitely the wrong person to ask for a neutral opinion on this, after reading the books mentioned at the Guardian link I was 100% certain he was a fraud – also, the sports writers David Walsh and Paul Kimmage, both brilliant, have been chasing him for years, convinced he was a doper. It looks to me like the evidence against him this time, particularly from all those other cyclists, was overwhelming, I think that’s why he’s backing out. But he’ll just carry on arguing it’s a witch hunt and try to keep the public on his side. The question is: what would be the motive for the doping agencies to go after an icon? I can’t think of one, other than their certainty that he’s a cheat. The fact remains that when he was in hospital being treated for cancer he was asked by a doctor, who needed to know before treatment started, if he had used any drugs – and in front of several witnesses he admitted that, yes, he had used a cocktail of performance-enhancing drugs. His life has been a lie, and he has made a career out of giving obscene false hope to cancer sufferers. He should never be forgiven for that. And according to those books I read, he had no worries about dragging innocent young cyclists down with him, all part of serving his creepy ego.
Wow – this is a really sad ending for so many who believed in him all this time. I have to admit, I wasn’t following it so closely, but I feel betrayed, nonetheless. A real shame.
It’s that there were other AA athletes who spent time in jail for “doping” and/or had their gold medles and records taken away. Other athelets seem to get away with just being shamed and records, medles taken away but NO jail time. Their seems to be always be an double standard even when some of the other athletes are punished, people feel that it’s too harsh yet no one steps up when an AA athlete is sent to jail. Maybe I am over simplifying the situation but thats the way I am seeing it.
I remember seeing an interview about his wife who was a well known singer, but I have forgotten who it was. Anyhow, when they split up it was Lance that left her and it was at the time of her discovery and treatment for cancer. She had stood by him during his bout with cancer but he left her. She seemed really sad about it. My impression of him went down the tubes at that time.
Chips, can you put up this chart mentioned in the BJ thread ?
http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/08/23/politify-weigh-your-magic-beans-on-a-granular-scale/
https://www.politify.com/
“Politify is a website that allows you to enter personal information—your income, your ZIP code, your state—and see which presidential candidate’s financial plans will work out better for you by 2015. Turns out, rural areas in red states would benefit the most from President Obama’s plans, and super-wealthy urban areas (like Mercer Island) would benefit the most from Mitt Romney’s plans. None of this is probably new information to you, but the research that went into this site provides the most accurate, granular information you’ve ever seen”
Florence Alabama just across the bridge from where I grew up (Tuscumbia). These people have always voted against their best interests. They blocked the lottery yet everyone goes to Tennessee to purchase them. The county was dry until just recently yet bootleggers were everywhere. I moved to Cali in 1973 and could not imagine moving back to this beautiful yet backwards area.
Done!! That is one outstanding chart!! Thank you amk.
Thanks chips. Very cool, huh?
It’s a stunner ….. all that blue. And I love red, severely ….. need to de-programme myself.
Yes, you got a severe case of severity.
Angel Garcia Palacios holds his U.S. citizenship certificate as he gets his picture taken standing next to a cardboard cut out of President Barack Obama in a voter registration booth sponsored by the Democratic party after a naturalization ceremony at the Los Angeles Convention Center on August 23
Congratulations !! I think that the rethugs know that their day has come and gone with the changes in demographics in the US; and they are so afraid
YAY!! Love these photos. Some of the BEST times I’ve ever had registering voters is at these ceremonies. People are so THRILLED about the opportunity to vote and to have their photo taken with PBO’s cardboard cutout. The mood is thoroughly celebratory!!
OMG.
What a wretched ending…
Wow. Just wow. Man.
Hmm, I see he’s describing the charges as “nonsense” and says he’s not fighting them because he’s “weary” from the allegations.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/aug/24/lance-armstrong-fight-doping-charges?newsfeed=true
Weary my butt! Not taking my medals from me if I earned them. He was afraid of something, not weary.
I have no idea or interest in his innocence/guilt, but I wonder if he’s seriously ill, which could account for the ‘weary’.
SMDH.
SWEET. That was such a thrilling day. LOVE our Joe to bits.
Choosing Joe was a ‘bold decision’. Remember all the calls for making Hillary as veep.
voucher ryan pick was an act of cowardice and mittbot’s bonelessness.
Oh yes I remember. Sen. Obama had to pick Hillary because of PUMAS! And if he didn’t , he was sure to loooooze!! Whatevs!
I LOVE that! Can I just say again I LOVE that? What a wonderful thing to say and how great to have such a team as those two for our leaders. Thank you Lord. Thank you America. Let’s do it again, yes?
This is just so sweet – I’ve found myself making cooing noises…
Joe Biden maybe the “king of gaffes” but he is the most principled, smart, caring, empathic, person in the entire government next to PBO. He has worked for the “everyday” person and he knows foreign policy and has a expansive knowledge of how government should work. He has the history of working with the best house and senate leaders of our past. Compared to Paul Ryan who has been in the house for going on 15yrs and has not distinquished himself other than for his own selfish needs and naming a post office is a disgrace.
Sorry, but I completely reject this ridiculous “king of gaffes” meme deliberately used to discredit and demean a perfectly lovely and incredibly competent and solid Vice President…
We mustn’t perpetuate it …or even jokingly reference it…
Minnetonka—–great moccasins! My standard summer wear growing up—–got a new pair every year during annual fam fishing trip to Mn. —which is where I stopped eating fish—forever—- but learned to love moccasins. (personal history news!)

No smooth sailing for the disastrous Willard campaign—-rough seas all over the place
Ah, the sweet Karma.
They better not take away from the Dem convention. Isn’t that Monday a holiday?
Believe they’re talking Monday, Aug 27.
Interesting – if he speaks at the beginning, then why bother with the rest of the speeches? What would be their climax, then?
God definitely has a sense of humour…
that was funny , had to retweet
photo/1
That’s so not fair. How come at my swearing in there was no PBO cut out????? Oh well, I heard a congratulatory msg from him.
Is POTUS campaigning any where tomorrow?
Don’t think so, I think he’s heading for Camp David – will double check in the morning.
Thanks and Good night everyone.
Before I go did anyone see any of Lawrence O’Donnell tonight were Queen Ann and Mitt had their new excuse for not releasing their tax returns. Their interview will be in Parade magazine. I think the new excuse is something about the tithe they pay to their church. More crap. I am amazed that he even talk about church, because he must have forgotten that a church man must do his best not to lie. Mitt does his best to lie and he does it very well. Mitt Romney is a bold face liar.
We had a great night of phonebanking. Called many supporters and invited them to the official office opening this Saturday. We are hoping for a big turnout so that we can sign up a lot of volunteers. We need to make sure Virginia stays blue this November. I love calling Marylanders cause they really, really support PBO
.
Thank you to the wonderful person who made a donation this morning to the Fundraising Challenge to keep the streak alive. 27 days in a row of donations. You guys are beyond awesome.
I’m exhausted so good night everyone!
Keep up the good work, donna. Have a gunnite.
Via BJ post
…And quit mentioning every week or so that you tithe 10% before taxes and if you’d add the amount to your 13% it would be near 20%.
Might be a good time to remind the electorate, specifically Re-thugs, about Myth’s commitment to cutting funding to FEMA as Hurricane Isaac bears down toward Tampa, Florida.
Taking my leave for a bit — maybe for the night — I’m quite fatigued. And so, to counter Chips eliminationist rhetoric against US Chelsea supporters over 40, I leave for the moment with this:
just got home, maybe this was posted earlier, but lordy lordy it’s terrific!!
romney stated today that big business does just fine in america–because they can exploit tax havens and loopholes.
‘ They know how to find ways to get through the tax code, save money by putting various things in the places where there are low tax havens around the world for their businesses.”
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hTG0VUgngk7BDb7wwkm04fSYxKtg?docId=e74139f84d9e4f898d670d84f894b531
Susanne, can you imagine this man who cannot remember what he’s said from one day to the next being the next world leader? I shudder to think how quickly there’d be global repercussions as a result of one of his unthinking comments. Mitt does not seem to know that some things are best left unsaid, particularly when you’re already in the ditch.
Wow—-he’s just saying it right out loud——-he’s admitting his fondness for saving money by using tax havens around the world. I think this might be a big news splash. He might as well release all his tax returns and reveal all his offshore accounts now. Cat’s out of the bag. I noticed his campaign spokesperson felt the need to jump in quickly to try to soften the blow.
yeah, they’re going to be backpedaling this one till they get shinsplints! isn’t it a thing of beauty?
hmmm–makes you wonder about his fidelity to miss ann….
‘ Here is reason number one thousand and forty for releasing your tax returns if you’re running for President of the United States: if you don’t, someone will try to reverse engineer them, using whatever scraps of paper are available, until they have built some sort of structure that may, in your mind, look like a clumsy papier-mâché version of your well-ordered financial house—and you will have no cause to complain; they will be performing a public service. ‘

Yup. Makes one wonder how really toxic are mittbot’s tax returns. Are there any criminal elements to them?
I think he’s at least close to a billionaire. I think his 13% tax includes his 10% tithe. I believe he was several questionable investments, including CDS, for which many Americans lives were ruined. I think he’s lying about every single thing in his portfolio.
Tweety on Tonight Show is giving Willard tips on how to win—–says he can win——with a big punch on the economy—–actually repeating the ad, telling Willard to say to Obama at the debate ‘you tried, but not good enough’ etc. I’m about ready to kick him—–these guys don’t really care who wins—–it’s all a game to them. And he just now said Miss Ann is “a winner”—–with all kinds of compliments about her, about how real she is etc. Ay yi yi yi yi yi. OMG—–now he’s gushing about Palin—–she’s “magic”, the way she walks, the way she moves etc. It is sickening!. Tweety needs to shut up. He started off wrong too—–when he sat beside Kristen Dunst on the couch, Leno said they looked like a senator and his wife, and Tweety said, “I should be so lucky.” Hope his wife enjoyed that comment. Tweety should have stayed in Nantucket.
Yuck! Tweety meds must have worn off from his show this afternoon. He was talking about how awful Mitt Robme was and how he was losing….I thought, give it a few more days and Tweety will flip flop just like Robme and all the political crazies.
Well fortunately, Tweety has NEVER won anything remotely close to a Presidential election, so his “advice” to Willard isn’t going anywhere. Willard CANNOT win with a “big punch on the economy” because PBO’s economic policies HAVE worked and would have worked even better weren’t it for the GOP obstructionism. Further, Willard is promising the same economic policies that got us into this mess in the first place.
That’s why that ad so far has not worked. It’s been running for over a month all over the TV airwaves, and nothing has changed significantly for Willard since June.

5 Sept 1774 the First Continental Congress Convened in Philadelphia
http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/congress.htm
5 Sept 2012 President Obama will be nominated for re-election
Other than 1860-1865 never has the question of will the United States of America persist as a government of, by and for the People ever been more on the line than it is now and when it was first being conceived.
http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/congress.htm
This should have been the second link ….
THIS. http://www.democraticunderground.com/101750827
Here’s what it says:
REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION TO FEATURE ANTI GOVT THEME
Sure it is being held in a publicly owned arena that is managed with taxpayer funds
And yes, Republicans have accepted $18 million of public money to pay for this convention
And it’s true that Rick Scott (R) may have to seek Federal disaster relief next week….
I guess on Planet GOP this is what they call “rugged individualism”
If they HATE government so much why do they want to enter public service?
Control and power…..
jojo, as you well know, they do hate ‘government’ and they have zero intention of entering ‘public service’ – their agenda is just as I’ve tried to summarize above. They want the full resources of “America” over which they and their fellow (only male) plutocrats, RULE.
That is how stark the situation is – we either prevail or we allow them to be truly retroactive – all the way to pre-1774.
Allan Lichtman, the American University professor whose election formula has correctly called every president since Ronald Reagan’s 1984 re-election, has a belated birthday present for Barack Obama: Rest easy, your re-election is in the bag.
“Even if I am being conservative, I don’t see how Obama can lose,” says Lichtman, the brains behind The Keys to the White House.
Below are each of the keys and how it falls for Obama.
1. Party mandate: After the midterm elections, the incumbent party holds more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives than it did after the previous midterm elections. Says Lichtman, “Even back in January 2010 when I first released my predictions, I was already counting on a significant loss.” Obama loses this key.
2. Contest: There is no serious contest for the incumbent party nomination. Says Lichtman on Obama’s unchallenged status, “I never thought there would be any serious contest against Barack Obama in the Democratic primary.” Obama wins this key.
3. Incumbency: The incumbent party candidate is the sitting president. Easy win here for Obama.
4. Third Party: There is no significant third party challenge. Obama wins this point.
5. Short term economy: The economy is not in recession during the election campaign. Here Lichtman declares an “undecided.”
6. Long-term economy: Real per capita economic growth during the term equals or exceeds mean growth during the previous two terms. Says Lichtman, “I discounted long term economy against Obama. Clearly we are in a recession.” Obama loses this key.
7. Policy change: The incumbent administration effects major changes in national policy. “There have been major policy changes in this administration. We’ve seen the biggest stimulus in history and an complete overhaul of the healthcare system so I gave him policy change,” says the scholar. Another win for Obama.
8. Social unrest: There is no sustained social unrest during the term. Says Lichtman, “There wasn’t any social unrest when I made my predictions for 2012 and there still isn’t.” Obama wins a fifth key here.
9. Scandal: The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal. “This administration has been squeaky clean. There’s nothing on scandal,” says Lichtman. Another Obama win.
10. Foreign/military failure: The incumbent administration suffers no major failure in foreign or military affairs. Says Lichtman, “We haven’t seen any major failure that resembles something like the Bay of Pigs and don’t foresee anything.” Obama wins again.
11. Foreign/military success: The incumbent administration achieves a major success in foreign or military affairs. “Since Osama bin Laden was found and killed, I think Obama has achieved military success.” Obama wins his eighth key.
12. Incumbent charisma: The incumbent party candidate is charismatic or a national hero. Explains Lichtman, “I did not give President Obama the incumbent charisma key. I counted it against him. He’s really led from behind. He didn’t really take the lead in the healthcare debate, he didn’t use his speaking ability to move the American people during the recession. He’s lost his ability to connect since the 2008 election.” Obama loses this key.
13. Challenger charisma: The challenging party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero. Says Lichtman, “We haven’t seen any candidate in the GOP who meets this criteria and probably won’t.” Obama wins, bringing his total to nine keys, three more than needed to win reelection.
http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2011/08/30/never-wrong-pundit-picks-obama-to-win-in-2012
If President Obama doesn’t have a Congress he can work with, then it’s going to be a very tough four years, and the country will really fall behind the rest of the world. It can’t take six years of stagnation. Democrats need to take back the House!
Drats. I used the italics but closed the html. Just to check
phew.
Good Morning, TODville. Yesterday was truly a mad day and I was quite tired when I got in. I am trying to catch up now before getting ready for work. Oh, I have my first canvass on Saturday – weather permitting.
CHIPS: Many thanks for posting the pictures from the First lady’s event.
Have a wonderful day and I hope to talk to you later.
okay, must be my bedtime! aloha oe.
I thought you guys might appreciate this:

Morning:) Hey! This should be fun!!
http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2012/08/univision-to-invite-obama-romney-to-debate-132245.html
Univision to invite Obama, Romney to debate
Jorge Ramos’s full comments from last night’s news cast, as translated by Univision:
In a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates Univision Network expressed its disagreement with the way the moderators for the Presidential Debates were chosen, which did not include any Hispanic or African American journalists. A day after the announcement of the Presidential Debate moderators, two male and two female non-Hispanics whites, Univision’s President and CEO, Randy Falco, addressed a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates expressing his disagreement and requesting the commission to hold and additional debate covering Hispanic issues. The commission answered and stated they would not sponsor an additional debate. Therefore Univision network invited President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney to participate in a forum to talk directly to Hispanic voters. Hispanics as a voting group are the fastest growing in the country and it is estimated that 12 million Latinos will vote in the November presidential election. If you want to give your opinion regarding this issue on Twitter, use the hashtag #DebateUnivision.
They’ve both agreed to it:
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/univision-to-forums-with-obama-romney?ref=fpb
EXCELLENT!
This is weird and intrusive….
http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2012/08/24/report-romney-mines-personal-data.html
Mitt Romney has managed to raise buckets of money by using a secretive project that mines Americans’ personal data, tracking everything from their retail purchases to church attendance, the Associated Press reported on Friday. The firm the campaign has hired to do the mining, Buxton Co., once did marketing work for a former Romney colleague connected to Bain Capital, which the candidate defended in a Wall Street Journal editorial today. The project analyzes databases of consumer data that are usually bought and sold among corporate marketers, and include info on credit accounts, voter registration, family, charitable contributions, and property tax records.
WTF???!? As I’ve stated before, Mitt Romney is a THUG in a suit. There’s no nice way of putting it.
Here’s more : http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_289563/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=bQOPSX8m
AP Exclusive: Romney uses secretive data-mining
I was wondering why I was constantly receiving mail from the Romney people asking for donations. So this is how they got my information and address.
I was complaining of getting Romney letters, surveys etc. and wondered if he had gotten ahold of OFA lists of donors. My postmaster teased me about it yesterday as he knows I am a big Obama fan. I have quietly given him and another supporter there choices of Obama campaign buttons. They said they could not wear them to work and went to the back area to choose which ones they wanted. I can only talk to them when no one else is around.
He’s really skating the legal line.
Both parties already do this, so why is he even bothering?
So it’s ok for Romney to look at other people’s charitable contributions, but he expects everyone to keep their noses out of his? Hypocrite.
The Party of No: New Details on the GOP Plot to Obstruct Obama
// TIME just published “The Party of No,” an article adapted from my new book, The New New Deal: The Hidden Story of Change in the Obama Era. It reveals some of my reporting on the Republican plot to obstruct President Obama before he even took office, including secret meetings led by House GOP Whip Eric Cantor (in December 2008) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (in early January 2009) where they laid out their daring (though cynical and political) no-honeymoon strategy of all-out resistance to a popular president-elect during an economic emergency. “If he was for it,” former Ohio senator George Voinovich explained, “we had to be against it.” The excerpt includes a special bonus nugget of Mitt Romney dissing the Tea Party.
But as we say in the sales world: There’s more! I’m going to be blogging some of the news and larger themes from the book here at time.com, and I’ll kick it off with more scenes from the early days of the Republican Strategy of No. Read on to hear what Joe Biden’s sources in the Senate GOP were telling him, some candid pillow talk between a Republican staffer and an Obama aide, and a top Republican admitting his party didn’t want to “play.” I’ll start with a scene I consider a turning point in the Obama era, when the new president came to the Hill to extend his hand and the GOP spurned it. //

Willard golf the Wall Street Journal that he won’t be a celebrity president and that he won’t use his campaign to personalize him like a ” piece of meat”…………………..
there’s nothing left for me to say that won’t sound like a low blow, it’s just too easy.
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/romney-vows-not-to-be-celebrity-politician
Told, not golf. WTH?!
Damn right, because HE WON’T BE PRESIDENT!!!
The Romney campaign knows that almost NOBODY likes Romney whereas A LOT of people like and respect Barack Obama, at home and abroad. So that’s the line of attack they’re trying ? Mean, and weak.
The WSJ article writes:
“To the contrary, the former businessman and governor, who gets more respect than adoration from voters…”
RESPECT? Robney gets respect from NO ONE. Just ask Todd Akins how much he “respects” Robney. The support for Romney is driven by neither adoration nor respect – it’s driven by hatred of the Black President in the WH.
And money. The rich get richer is a big motivator for ..umm..the rich,
hopefruit2, you have said it. The crazy ass Republicans don’t like or respect Romney. They don’t trust him, these hateful racists folks are being guided by their hate for that BLACK President. The WJS isn’t worth crap either.
Right, Lisa, like anyone would want any part of him. “Celebrity” is a joke re Willard, People would probably pay to keep him away from them.
Me thinks we just got someone big in Pakistan with a Drone-

Fox news poll is trying to sell us a Ryan Bump this Morning.
Whatever!
Robme has said that he would allow abortion in the case of rape, incest or life of the mother. So truly professional journalists should be asking him this question, if (heaven forbid) the repugs take control of congress and pass the RAyn/Akin anti-abortion in all cases bill, would he sign it or veto it?
BobFR – if you have any inclination to tweet this to your journalist tweeps, feel free.
Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in two attacks in Norway last year, is found to be sane and is sentenced to 21 years in jail by a court.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19365616
Just 21 years ? WTF?
And the racist murdering punk smiles as the verdict is read.
Apparently, 21 years is the maximum in Norway.
Then Robney should move to Norway. That way he doesn’t have to serve more than 21 yrs for all the tax crimes he committed!
Hopefruit,
Their is a Guy on tv that basically says, Robney is a great Debater and that the President is lousy.
They are in full spin mode, this Morning.
now we all know that’s a lie. they’re desperate to prop up romney since he’s had an awful summer.
‘Lousy’ enough he has no need to ask ANYONE to avoid certain issues. I’ll take ‘lousy’ over ‘great’ in this instance.
In what planet is he living? The most articulate President in recent memory can’t debate?
Tell that guy I said to GO TO HELL!
This is a good thing, Jovie. Let them set the bar high for Rmoney. They set the bar so long for Miss Sarah that a toddler could walk over it and just the fact that she didn’t literally faint made her a winner. So let them think that Willard is the Great Debater. And then let the president tie him in a knot and kick him to the wings.
oops…set the bar so low…
Awesome:) http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/cory-booker-to-present-dem-platform-at-convention?ref=fpb
GM, Df! Maybe by then I will have warmed up to Booker again, but I’m not banking on it. It takes a while for me to rebuild trust.
GM, VC!!! You will:) He’s a good guy and a motivating speaker….I know you had some heartaches with him, and I’m hoping that you will come back around:)
I hope so df!
I’m taking a page from lisalovesobama’s book, for this election season. I will call a truce with any DEM/Liberal pundit, blogger, columnist, surrogate, or politician who is willing to have my President’s back to ensure that he is re-elected. But like VCPrez, I will be watching them very closely. As long as they do what they’re supposed to do and not try to subtly undermine my President – I will welcome whatever assistance they can give towards the goal of four more years.
That’s fair:)
I’m totally on board with the sentiments in the last sentence, Hf! The distance in the last portion perfectly expresses my attitude to any Dem. who has tried to undermine PBO in the past. I do not embrace them with warmth but I’ll listen and be accepting of their assistance when it’s given.
Time will tell. Time heals all wounds. Time, the great healer. [Can't think of anymore right now.
] We’ll see if they are right, because it’s not something I control! A part in me just seems to die towards them when people shatter my trust, so we’ll wait and see if it reseeds itself in Booker’s case…
Last weekend I happened to watch him chair the Democratic platform meeting in Detroit. I was impressed on how well the meeting went. While I wasn’t happy about what he said about Obama, I still think that if he continues to do such work supporting the party in what has to be a very humble role, he should be given a chance to make amends.
I hear you Carol I had always considered Booker a good speaker, and an intelligent politician. In a way it’s not his fault that I had placed him on so high a pedestal as a result of previous ‘encounters’ that I was totally blindsided by his slap at the president. The reality is, I don’t mind him being given his chance to make amends, but the truth is *I* will never see him in the same light again.

Few things anger me more than the men who actively campaign against abortion. Oh, I know all those moral, come-to Jesus arguments about men and fatherhood. But frankly speaking, unless the unborn considered for abortion is a product of the protesting men’s sperm, as far as I’m concerned, they don’t have a dog in this fight. So before you get your undies in a twist, I am neither advocating for or against abortion. My issue is with the men who drive the argument.
snip/
Personally, I’m more than a little put off by what I consider the hypocrisy of men who claim to cherish the life of the unborn, when they display so little concern for those that have been born. We live in a country that believes in the death penalty, has no problem supporting acts of war that obliterate innocent children, and demonstrates little concern for the children who have been abandoned and reside in foster homes and orphanages all over the country. Two million children go to bed hungry every night. The richest nation in the world has an unseen population of children who are homeless, hungry, diseased, poorly educated, and victims of violence. What about their right to life?
DF, True words were never spoken. It has always enraged me to hear men pontificating about abortion. I’ll tell you this: if men bore children, they would insist on safe abortion centers on every block.
Exactly! As usual, they have NO IDEA what they’re talking about…and making life for women that much more difficult and dangerous
I always felt that if those men really wanted to prevent abortion, they should talk to their fellow men about responsibility and “no means no”. Not to mention a word or two about child support. And how about free and cheap contraception and easy access to sex education? Then there would be far fewer abortions to protest. But then, that takes time and money (and sometimes their tax money)
What enrages me the most are men who insist that carrying a child from rape and incest should be done- it harms their religious sensibilites, you know- without regard to the feelings of the victim. Like, how the hell would they feel having to actually do this ? It’s as though women should suppress the emotional damage and carry on as usual. Never would I let a man tell me what to do with this body of mine because it’s mine, not his.
That’s because to them, a woman is just a vessel, not a free-thinking human being.
This is a colossal joke, HF. Rmoney will destroy the economy for the middle class. We’ll be in the same dire economic straits Bush took us to in 2008. Gallup is interviewing the world’s stupidest people.
I’m not buying this Gallup bunch of crap either. How does these people know what Romney would do for the economy when he hasn’t said one word about what he would do, unless these people think giving more tax cuts to the rich, would make the economy do better. This iRomney leads on the economy is alot of bull crap from gallup.
Exactly !!
So true – can any of those people name one single thing that Romney has proposed that would not kill the middle class, and that would actually help the economy to improve? In every single vague proposal, Romney would explode the deficit, load the bill onto the backs of seniors and poor people, eliminate rights, start wars, destroy the environment – and all this would be done by repeating the same failed policies of George W. Bush (and pandering to every special interest that has bought a piece of Mitt).
Rachel Maddow did a great segment about this organizing of right-wing poll watchers that are meant to do nothing but intimidate NON-WHITE Voters. Haven’t seen it reported anywhere else.

and a poster at JJP wrote about this yesterday.

Well, two can play that game. There will be Democratic poll watchers in every location, watching and reporting these tactics to the many Dem lawyers at the scene. Please people, sign up to be a poll watcher. It’s important.
Blanche Lincoln says their are 4200 regulations on small-businesses that will act like a Tidal Wave if not addressed, blah blah blah.
No wonder, She was not re-elected!
A has been loser. Who cares?
Says the queen of Farm subsidies. Her entire family receives them under her maiden name, ” Lambert “
Plus she needs the extra day to practice, study, etc..
I thought I read where they wouldn’t SHOW Queen Ann speaking….
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/23/us/politics/limited-convention-coverage-will-leave-ann-romney-off-air.html?pagewanted=all
This morning Halperin was saying how despicable it was that the networks were not covering queen Ann. Then he went on to say that the Romney clan were still working on having Ann speak on Monday. So the Tuesday moving thing…..may change as the networks come to their senses.
That little turd, Halperin has issues.
You know Queen Ann want her primetime, don’t be surprise if she doesn’t introduce her lying husband.
Well folks, its time for the 2012 Republican National Convention, or as we know it, the media asskissing week. We already see remnants of it happening, where the pundits are saying that the President saying “You’re likable enough Hillary” underscores his supposed ineptness at debating while Mitt Romney is the paterfamilias of debates. I know that many are annoyed at this, but I actually like the fact that the media is overestimating Mitt Romney.
Remember Sarah Palin when her expectations were set so low, that the analysts and pundits said she won just because she didn’t throw up like in the Exorcist? Thank God the American people then called bullshit with those dial testers. I would like them to hype Mitt Romney up so high, that he ends up crashing and burning the same way that the Hindenburg did 75 years ago.
We must not have any illusions; he will get a convention bounce which will make all of us want to stock up on antacids for about two weeks. He will get glowing praise, irrespective of how the convention really is due to how the media always does. Remember how they glowed about John McCain’s in 2008? It’s going to happen. I repeat, ITS. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.
This post may seem like a downer, but it’s really just truth telling. Romney has a money advantage that he’s using to put out racist southern strategy lies of ads designed only to put swill in the minds of white voters that Barack Obama is more Huey Newton than Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. circa 1996. His convention will have gismos and certain things that will have the media swooning with delight while we recoil in disgust.
Reality will not matter at the Republican Convention. All that will matter is whether or not they can sell it well. They are gonna throw a lot of shit and see that it sticks at us. They will ignore everything before January 20, 2009 to sell us policies that got us in this mess in the first place. Hopefully the Obama Campaign and its supporters are amped for this fight, because there will be a whole lot of bullshit thrown at us from their convention.
Last, but not least, they will try their damndest to repackage Mitt Romney, Ann Romney and Paul Ryan. This is the real etch-a-sketch. They will have videos that highlight all the “good” that these men have done in their respective lives and how they are champion fighters for the American people. Get ready for it, because it’s coming. You will see Republican politicians and pundits fake it harder than a hooker in Columbia for Mitt Romney. It’s going to be a glowing pile of chicken shit served as chicken salad which they will use to try and entrance the indie and swing voter with.
You will get pissed off at the national media coverage. It’s how they are. They will say everything dealing with the GOP convention was a success, regardless of the hurricane, the white resentment factor, or the dullness of the two top convention speakers, Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney. Everyone who does not have a twitter needs to get one frontloaded with tweetdeck to help you manage your tweets.
The good news is that after the week of chicken shit and ass, we come in. All we have to do is to forthrightly defend our policies, back up Barack Obama as our great leader, and knock the taste out of Mitt Romney’s mouth. I have every confidence that our convention will be the sunny, confident, and forceful convention. That Joe Biden and Barack Obama as VP and POTUS will tear the roof off the sucka, snatching wigs and taking names as well as make us proud. Until that time, this weekend stock up on Tums, Maalox, and some movies in case you get sick of T.V. We have been warned.
Fox would have a great week next week. Not so much for the rest of the cablers. What the TBGOPers are selling……frankly only their side are remotely interested.
This is the GOP’s all-star week of incessant throwing of the reddest of red meat to an audience full of simps. They’ve invited Chump Trump, Racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio, all kinds of monied RW religious nuts, racists and hypocrites to speak. They will churn the organ grinder like a revival and do all they can to glorify one of the worst slime buckets ever to run for the presidency. I have no intention of watching or listening to the failed media prop up this circus
FORWARD!
Obama: private sector is doing fine
Romney: big business is doing fine
Obama: Rape is rape
Ryan: Rape is rape
Obama: “you didn’t do this on your own”
Romney: “you didn’t get here on your own”
funny how when the President says it, it is a horrible thing to say, but when the R’s say it, it is wonderful.
IOKIYAR!
Imitation is not still the sincerest form of flattery? Though with the TBGOPers, they do it wickedly.
Willy Giest today on his week in review edited a tape showing Ryan as the originator of Rape Is Rape…..stated originally by PBO on 8-20-12. The media is pathetic.
But we can’t be fooled again.
I turned off Morning Junk when the table had
Halperin
Haas
S.E TeaCupp
Capehart.
Wimp Willie as the lead.
Morning TOD, Linda, we know the drill here; it’s as old as the birthing (theft) of this nation. What needs to be done is a timeline of these actual statements and moves, showing just how much Bozo and his minions copy “everything” PBO does, knowing full well that their base will “forget” it was said/done by PBO and attribute all that brilliance to their very very flawed and lying POS great white hope. It is what it is.

MINI RANT ALERT:
I’ve been noticing for some time now that the polls and MSM have been stating that President Obama trumps Romney on the “likability” factor, but Romney trumps Obama on the economy. The Romney camp has built upon this meme with some of their ads about PBO being “nice” and “having a good heart” and well-intended, blah blah blah, but just not effective as someone who could fix this country’s main problem, which is the economy. The WSJ article also fed into that meme with Romney stating he’s not a celebrity president, and the authors injecting their own spin about his being “respected” more than he’s “adored” etc, basically implying that PBO is simply “adored” but not necessarily respected or perceived as competent.
I think all of this “likability” rating etc, is complete and utter rubbish, and is subtly playing to a racial stereotype of the “cool” but incompetent black guy, who is liked but not necessarily respected, relative to the not-so-cool, but competent and worthy-of-your-respect white guy. The truth is anyone of us here at TOD and elsewhere would probably trump Mitt Romney in the “likability” factor, but does that make us qualified to be President of the US?? So just saying that someone trumps Romney in the “likability” department is not exactly giving them a big compliment.
What we know very well, and which the MSM spends a lot of time and energy trying to obscure is the fact that President Obama’s so-called likability actually stems from his perceived and ACTUAL competence in a wide range of areas – INCLUDING the economy. When you break down the polling by various issues, from Medicare to education, from scientific research and technology to women/LGBT/minority issues, from environmental issues to foreign policy, PBO always beats Romney. ALL of these issues are related to the economy and taken as an aggregate, PBO beats Romney on just about everything.
So when Gallup comes out with their polls about likability vs economy, which are being tweeted all over the place, it serves us to remember that the MSM is pushing a meme that intends to subtly undermine our President’s perceived competence by overplaying his “likability” factor while emphasizing Romney’s so-called effectiveness on the economy. The media knows fully well that people are concerned about the economy, and they want people to think that Romney is going to be better for the economy than PBO when nothing could be further from the truth. Meanwhile, they hide all evidence of Romney’s utter incompetence all most things including his economic policy (which by the way he has yet to outline, much less detail to voters), while trying to feed us this garbage about PBO’s likability.
Excellent analysis hf.
Chips – Can you FP this?
Excellent Hopefruit. I have wondered about this ‘likeability’ factor… I never recall it being so important – or even being a part of polling before. This is very insightful of you, and I think you’ve clearly nailed whats going on here.. the manipulation by the media, etc.
Very interesting point HF. And it’s cause for concern.
It’s difficult to counteract the myth about businessman = competent on the national economy. What can be done, however, is to argue, again and again, with graphs and numbers, that democrats are BETTER than republicans when it comes to the economy. (They’re better in national security too but that’s another story). I wonder if the Obama campaign should put a little more emphasis on demonstrating WHY “from the bottom-up and the middle-out” economics is so much superior than “supply-side” economics.
I also wonder if President Obama should give interviews to national pundits and talk very “wonky” on the economy. Give lots of numbers, use economic jargon, etc… Doesn’t matter if people don’t understand everything. The objective is to impress people, in the beltway and in the general population. To counter the meme that he doesn’t know the economic stuff, on a technical level. Maybe he’s keeping his power dry for the debates, but he can’t let Romney define him. There’s a big push for this right now.
And of course, what’s important and has to be repeated again, and again, and again, is the obstructionism of the republicans in Congress. Every proposal of the Obama administration has received good reviews from independent experts. So the administration IS COMPETENT. The problem is that everything has been blocked in Congress. People know it a little bit. They don’t get the LEVEL of damage caused by the republicans.
So the fact that President Obama’s been competently running the government for 3.5years doesn’t raise a question as to why the GOP to act like they’re not running against an incumbent, who’s done the job they are seeking for 3.5 years longer than they have? If they want to kick out the guy who currently holds the title, shouldn’t they prove that they are more competent to do the job than he has proven he is? It’s a really poor reflection on the electorate. Can’t say that enough.
The only reason why Robney changed his speech to Monday, is so the Networks would cover Miss Ann, as well!
Well queen Ann is Correct. Since the networks won’t cover her. Willard who she said is nothing without here, will have to move to Monday to accommodate queen Ann. Once again, the queen rules in the Romney kingdom?
Folks can you imagine if had been Michelle and pres Obama?
http://www.truthdig.com/cartoon/item/congress_at_play_20120823/
Sometimes I think the fact that the Republicans are meeting in hurricane-prone Florida in late August (Katrina, anyone) is a result of the “Southernication” of their party. There are better places up north who would love to have a Convention (Cleveland anyone), Detroit (yes, it’s rough, but the city would practically build a whole new neighborhood if necessary), Denver, Seattle, but I think they feel they are too “diverse” for them.
That brings me to a question: has a national Party Convention ever had to be postponed or rescheduled due to weather?
The city choices were
Tampa
Phoenix ( anti immigrant )
Salt Lake City ( bars close at 1 AM )
BWAH! Succintly put, Linda!
The 2004 GOP Convention was in … New York City ! I never understood how a city with 80 % Democrats could host a GOP convention.
They had to close off whole streets around the complex to keep the protesters at a distance.
It was to USE A Noun, A Verb and 9-11, meme to win in 2004. Remember all the terror alerts in 2004?
I see reports that several people have been shot near Empire State Bldg. 19 people were shot in 8 hrs. yesterday on the south and west sides of Chgo. Star h.s. and college volleyball player, who was in St.Louis to play in a St. Louis U. alumni game Sat. was shot and killed as she sat in her car talking to her mom on her cell phone in a robbery attempt at 2:30 in the afternoon—2 18 yr. olds arrested. I am so sickened by all these senseless shootings and killings happening daily in this country. Something—–some action—-is desperately needed to begin to curb all this insane violence.
Another shooting in NYC. Bloomburg should Police his own backyard!
Unfortunately, the NYC that stops and frisks mostly Black and Brown…..I bet didn’t stop nor frisk this shooter. So when Bloomberg goes on TV/Cable to talk about GUNS, would any journalist bring that UP? Nope.
You mean, they actually just stop and frisk people on the streets? I saw this on a 30 Rock show, and thought it was an exaggeration. They really just stop people who are going about their business? Talk about a police state…
Yes. And Mostly in exclusivity, Black and Brown Men.
Morning everyone, will be back a little later, chat away!
