The Republican National Convention, Tampa, August 2012
The Democratic National Convention, Charlotte, September 2012
Ha. First from SA.
amk, congrats on being first.
Hellooooooooooo amk, hello SA – hey, that was almost poetry
I am always poetry.
There once was a chap called amk,
who visited TOD almost every day,
he oft talked about wimmin,
but then started swimmin’
to try to keep the lady TODers at bay.
Almost always poetry….
I understand there’s good poetry and then there’s ….. /say no more, vc. move along/
Howdie amk!!! Way to go!!! And, on that #FailedAgenda stuff …
@JoeBiden @vj44 the #KOCH's daddy's John Birch Society was a #FailedAgenda then & is now THE #FailedAgenda of the #GOP #BainMitt & #LyinRyan— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 05, 2012
Hey AMK in SA, Unjani?
is it my computer screen? the RNC looked pasty like — black and white or something wow. lol
Pasty – Yes. White – Yes. Black and White – Uh, no. Not much of that!
Why Obama's presidency has NOT been a disappointment ow.ly/dui2w— Troy Smith (@troylsmith) September 05, 2012
Whow, that is an all wight Klan meeting
it should say all “white”
Someone should send this to Chuck Todd.
I might be a bit biased, but I thought @MichelleObama knocked it out of the park at the convention last night. -bo— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) September 05, 2012
Go ahead and be biased Mr. President, if I was her husband you dam right I would brag on her too.
One of my favorite Kevin Costner lines …
@BarackObama @MichelleObama Mr President, as someone once noted, that ball left the stadium so fast it needed a flight attendant. Superb!!!!— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 05, 2012
Ooooooh, LOVE it!!!!!!
BTW Chips given a recent blog conversation re a photo with PBO laughing at a chair, did you write that post title with a straight face?
Wow, look at all that diversity. Some of them have brown hair.
Hahahahahahahahahaha. It’s all white everywhere at the RNC convention. At DNC2012 they didn’t need to hunt for diversity; it was there in all forms. It’s bloody wonderful to be a Democrat and be a part of a party that celebrates inclusion.
I understand and accept that it’s for safety reasons, but I’m still bummed about the thurs speech being moved inside
squarepeg. I’m sure if it wasn’t a chance of thunder storms, they would have it out side.

OMG the anti-Repug tweets on https://twitter.com/#!/search/%23FailingAgenda are hysterical.
#FailingAgenda Keeping this paid hashtag trending as the world laughs at you.
SO many brilliant ones, eg
Don't have the money to buy a hashtag? Borrow it from your parents! #failingagenda— Stacey Burns (@WentRogue) September 05, 2012
That’s his nature meta, he’s used to trying to buy his way of out problems.
Right! That’s his whole MO right there in a nutshell. What you don’t have, you purchase. I can’t wait until we show him that’s not going to happen with the presidency. NO way. Thank goodness we have POTUS.
@stefcutter Ironic that #KOCHSTERS spend $$ on their #FailedAgenda buying hashtags. Shows how lame & devoid of #RealClass they are.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 05, 2012
It’s good to know the facts to push back on their lies….we can’t wait for corporate media to do its job, we know their agenda.
Paul Ryan caught lying again. And again. And again.
He was at it again on Sunday, making up numbers and just flat out lying about job creation and bankruptcies under Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.
In comparing President Obama to Jimmy Carter, Ryan said in July 1980 the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent and “for the past 42 months it’s been above 8 percent under Barack Obama’s failed leadership.”
… but in July 1983, when Ronald Reagan was president, unemployment was at 9.4 percent. In July 1982 it was higher at 9.8 percent.
ChristiMTL, tell Lying Ryan to go run another marathon.
Ha! and lie about it after.
Yep, I couldn’t believe that Reagan got re-elected because the economy and job prospects where worst than today. I was a new graduate in 1982 and the recession was still around but people were still hiring in 1980 and 1981, but by the end of 1981 the job market dried up, we had high interest rates, high inflation and Reagan had increased the SS taxes on workers. When I did find a job in 1983 I made $16K a year and my take home was about $800 and my rent was $400.
I certainly hope that when they do reach the epicenter of the Costa Rican earthquake all they find are damaged roads and not widespread carnage. #praying

meta, I’m sure we won’t see some senile looking women ( Johanasson, Portman, Kerry ) talking to an empty chair, will we.
anniebella, this is one smart, gorgeously warm, open convention. I’m just so thrilled with ALL of it.
I volunteered at the last one so I never got to see the TV coverage or the speeches live until PBO gave his acceptance and Chicago HQ comped me a ticket at the last minute because I was luckily assigned to the reception desk at their bank of makeshift offices on that day. Otherwise I wouldn’t have seen any of it. My sense of this event is that it’s much better organized, the volunteers are much better utilized (it was sometimes chaotic in 2008) and the planning was much more focussed on all the things that matter. I feel for them that they have to move PBO’s speech because that is going to require a lot of time and energy to pull off. But I have faith that it will be fantastic in all respects.
I’ll leave the #Eastwooding jokes to others (amk, look’n at ya) :D :D :D … but, talk about HOT!!!
Democrats have some sizzling to do tonight!!
Even Gallup – G(OP)allup!!! – has a +3 point swing for President Obama today …. jeez, that GOP convention went well gallup.com/home.aspx— Chips (@___Chips___) September 05, 2012
Chips, your friend Halperin is at it again
Did u just hear @MarkHalperin say that liberals don’t say that America is a great country and don’t talk about vets @MitchellReports?
So who besides Fox & .@MarkHalperin are counting how many times Liberals say “American is the Greatest Country in the World”…
Whaaaat! Mark Halperin since when did patriotism and honoring military become “Conservative” concepts.
He’s just too much for me….he’s such a liar.
After his comments about PBO, I can’t for the life of me, figure out why folks:
1. still listen to anything he says
2. are surprised by anything he says
3. post anything he says
4. waste pixels on anything he says
5. act as if he’s relevant
6. give his name hits on the innerwebz
but that’s just me. Even when I see him on the tee and vee box, I take him with a grain of salt. He’s like fog, you can see it, but it doesn’t have any substance.
After his comments about PBO, he’s still on MSNBC payroll…a regular on MJ, a regular on Andrea Mitchell, a regular on Hardball….and so on.
He spew his lies every day and people push back…that’s all.
Halperin is a dick… and a tiny one at that.
It’s like preaching tot he choir. The push back needs to be to his bosses, the sponsors of the shows on which he appears, or to him directly. Being bent out of shape about what he says is a waste of energy, but I guess bending is a form of exercise. #calorieburn
When I turned on my tv, I saw Halpern saying that. I immediately turned. Conservatives only pay lip service to this phrase. Their actions says otherwise. If Robney think that “America is he Greatest Country in the World”, why does he have offshore bank accounts?
Exactly, greatest country in the world but not good enough to invest his millions.
Yes, Chips, the camera never lies!!! This one is for you …

Nate Silver gives it to President Obama: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/05/sept-4-the-simple-case-for-why-obama-is-the-favorite/
“…you’ll notice that our forecast has moved toward Barack Obama over the past several days. It now gives him about a three-in-four chance of winning the Electoral College on Nov. 6.
I’ll explain a little bit more about how the model comes to that conclusion in a moment, but the intuition behind it is pretty simple:
1. Polls usually overrate the standing of the candidate who just held his convention.
2. Mitt Romney just held his convention. But he seems to have gotten a below-average bounce out of it. The national polls that have come out since the Republican National Convention have shown an almost exact tie in the race.
3. If the polls overrate Mr. Romney, and they show only a tie for him now, then he will eventually lose.”
Mitt tweets that the real reason the venue moved inside was because PBO scared that he couldn’t fill the outdoor stadium due to lack of enthusiasm. Wow, how petty and what a reach to even suggest that. I told you they’re getting desperate. That sounded like something a middle schooler would post.
It really is too bad that so many won’t be able to experience PBO up close and personal. The campaign was going to use the opportunity to register volunteers and voters. I’m sure they’ll find another way. 65,000 people with tickets are pretty bummed right about now.
What a pitiful man Mitt Romney is, thank goodness he has all that money stash overseas so when he lose in November he can go get some help. Tell Mitt and Ann to come to the arena Thursday night and he will see that we back our President because we like ,respect, trust him. We believe he will help the middle class, the poor. We can’t he it that the Republicans are backing him because they hate President Obama, not because they like or trust Mitt Romney.
The media can be respectful to Ann Romney all they want, I don’t have to be. Michelle Obama is he best.
Michelle Obama speech was much better, than Ann Romney, Michelle wiped the floor with Ann, Michelle is the best.
Because she’s sincere, she doesn’t fake empathy, she really cares. Ann Romney is a phony and a liar like her husband.
I remember her fake outrage about Hillary Rosen’s comments…..just to be caught on tape a few days later saying that it was her best birthday present.
The mask was off right there.
She can talk all she wants
Nobody buys it,…
It sounds more like “Tagg-or-it” Robme. He is a pathic little twirp just like his father and his adopted brother Paul Ryan.
Respect has to be earned, anniebella and Ann Romney has not earned it. I’m sick of her telling Latinos and today women that they’re stupid if they don’t vote for Mitt. How insulting.
.@MittRomney YOU evidence your #FailedAgenda & lack of #RealClass by criticizing #DNC for putting the safety of Americans before Party.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) September 05, 2012
PBO would never do a petty tweet like that. This morning Robney’s head is spining. They were exposed on National tv for the liars they are. I am sure they will continue to repeat the lies, but more people are aware, and we have 2 more nights to go. We are not done yet. Ted Strickland was our official attack dog last night. Harry, Harry, Harry was great also. :)
I’m trying to be a big girl about it, but I’m sad about the change in venue. I knew rain was a possibility, but I was so hoping we would luck out again like last year in Co. It was so impressive and unique with that huge crowd outside. But I guess it could have been a disaster too if there were t storms, so they can’t take chances. And what do they do with all those people who now will not have seats—–40,000 of them to be exact?
Just think of the missed opportunities for more PBO dripping wet pictures. hubba, hubba…..
Any one know where I can find Lily Ledbetter’s speech?
Here you go! She was terrific! Loved her thick accent.
Thank you meta!!!
beautiful! she’s an inspiration.
They can get 17,000 in the stadium and there are 19,000 on the wait list. They’re trying to get as many inside to participate in the festivities.
I thought… not sure, they said there were 65,000 that could be in the stadium and they had 19k on the waiting list.
Here’s what I think Rep Claybourne said, the stadium seats 65,000. The convention hall seats 17,000. They have/had 19,000 on the wait list for indoors as of now. Not sure, either way it’s a bummer.
Cool article on Tracy Reese, the women who designed FLOTUS’ DNC dress:
Ms. Reese, an African American designer who was born in Detroit and launched her collection in New York more than a decade ago, is known for her use of bright colors and flattering, feminine silhouettes. She is among the more affordable designers selling in luxury department stores, with dresses running around $350. She has dressed Mrs. Obama before, including for the First Lady’s Ebony magazine cover in May.
“I was moved to tears by Mrs. Obama’s amazing speech. I knew she was speaking from her heart and she touched mine,” Ms. Reese tells Speakeasy exclusively. “As always I couldn’t be more proud to have the opportunity to dress her.”
Michelle Obam’s dress was only $350.00 . Ann Romney’s was 1,400.00
But Cindy Mc Cain is the winning with the Convention outfit of 300,000.
I totally loved the dress and was surprised to learn the price. Tracy Reese does a low end high fashion line.
Thanks for the article Meta. FLOTUS always looks like a million bucks even while on a less expensive budget.
I understood the quote above to say the designer sells dresses in the $350 range in dept. stores, not that FLOTUS’ dress cost $350 or not that the designer doesn’t retail far more expensive dresses. Of course, it hardly matters IMO since FLOTUS has the means to pay whatever she thinks reasonable for her clothing.
I heard $4,000 on Ann’s dress? Wrong/
Ezra Klein does a good explanation of ObamaCare that anyone can understand.
OOOOPS, according to Knoller Troller, looks like I was wrong! POTUS on his way!

Nate Silver has President Obama’s electoral vote at 310.9 up 12.8 since Aug. 28. Romney is at 227.1 down 12.8 since Aug. 28.
President Obama’s chance of winning is 76.3% up 7.6% since Aug. 28. Romney’s chance of winning is 23.7% down 7.6% since Aug. 28.
i am watching the cspan cam .it is being carried down the street by somone…showing everyday images of traffic…people….etc….I immediately think of Jovie,…and her roving reports….i the cam is outside….they maybe waiting for the President..not sure

Fact-Wreck: CNN Subjects Democratic Convention To ‘Reality Check’ Based On A Lie
Convention anchor Anderson Cooper tossed to Burnett with an innocent-sounding “Let’s go to Erin Burnett and Tom Forman for a reality check.”
“A lot of things were said this evening, making fact checkers everywhere very busy,” Foreman began. “But there was one cornerstone claim of the Democrats tonight, they pounded it like a nail, that President Obama has created more than 4 million jobs since taking office.”
He then played several clips of Democrats touting the improvement in jobs numbers over the last 29 months. “So it’s clear,” Foreman said, “the claim is the President created 4.5 million new jobs since taking office.”
The problem here is not in the math,” Foreman continued. “More than 4 million jobs have been created.”
Great, so the story is that Democrats told the truth! Good news, for a change.
“What is missing here is context,” Foreman continued, and Burnett chimed in “Yes, and context is everything.”
A whole new fact-checking industry has been created by major news outlets in order to avoid the cost of real investigative reporters. It’s much cheaper to pay someone to sit and search the internet, then rate what was said based on that search. The truthfulness of the fact check is only as good as the person is willing to dig deep enough to find it. One has to wonder how thorough they are when time constraints are put on them to rank a statement before the person even makes it. Fact checking, a new and narrow specialty invented to circumvent real journalism.
Ah Christi I saw this very thing on CNN last night – and I almost threw my shoe at the tv! I just thought wow you lame brains are really reaching. You’ve got nothing.
Just kidding Jovie….
here is more info about the convention cam of cspan….
C-SPAN cameras are outside the DNC convention venue in Charlotte to bring you the sights and sounds around the area
Jovie is on her way back to Asheville.
Can’t type, I am driving…
have a safe trip, now put that phone down.
I sent Mark Knoller a thank you because he has been making a serious effort to just stick to facts or interesting tidbits with his tweets lately. I wrote . . .
@markknoller Want to say thanks for putting out fact based tweets without insinuations, allowing folks to draw their own conclusions. Thanks— Justin Time (@nospin2012) September 05, 2012
He actually responded
@nospin2012 Thanks for noticing. Appreciate it.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) September 05, 2012
BTW listening again to Deval Patrick on C-Span
lolol see Susan. You are feeding my habit. I watched Flotus’ speech 4 times already and said I was going back to work and then I saw your link. lolol I loved Deval Patrick. Now I have to listen before working. hah!
It was nice of you nospin
maybe all that exposure to pbo is having an effect–hard to imagine holding on to negative views of the president and his policies, while actually hearing and seeing him in action every day.
Mmmmmm, Mark Ruffalo. Just sayin’.
Being a COIN (Christian Only In Name) while killing Medicare, drumming for War, fighting Healthcare, disenfranchising poor, #FailingAgenda— Mark Ruffalo (@Mruff221) September 05, 2012
Arrrrgh!! Sooo depressed! Might not be going to Charlotte afterall. Thursday events moved back indoors to the Convention Center due to expected thunderstorms. Can’t fit 65,000 people into arena for 20,000, so they’re canceling community credentials. Weighing whether to go ahead and drive to Charlotte anyway and take my chances just hanging out or just stay home.
Gotta go to a work meeting. Will update later. I think I wanna cry.
I was just thinking about you!! I’m so sorry. It’s such sad news for so many.
Hugs, Dudette! Hold on to your ticket because I understand that POTUS will meet with all credentialled people between now & Nov. 6.
I thought of you when I heard the announcement. :( I feel like crying for you. You still may enjoy just being there and getting caught up in the ambiance of the event.
Yep, that’s what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna drive to Charlotte anyway.
I’m optimistic. Hang in there kiddo!
Probably not good timing with this comment, since so many are disappointed about the Charlotte venue. However, 950 miles away…
I got my ticket for Friday’s big event – so did LOTS of people. I like this quote: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance,” said University of Iowa senior Chris Engels, 21, who was in line for a ticket after having seen Obama on his previous visit to Iowa City in April. “Well, twice in a year.”
My building has become a different place today – we have lots of orange snow fence in between us and the next building. There was a guy out there this morning with a metal detector, checking the lawn. And this noon they maneuvered in a forklift for some strange reason. We have strangers wandering through our offices with weird-looking equipment. Our building will be closed the whole day and we haven’t yet been told where our “alternate work site” is – so I may have to just use up some of my vacation stash.
Streaming Now – Awaiting President Obama’s arrival in Charlotte: http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
speaking of addictions. I’m listening to Strickland on CSpan, blogging here and watching for PBO to arrive in Charlotte. Gotta love the internet!
I’m doing the same……..!
Good Grief….someone is blocking the camera again.
Looking at the pictures of the two conventions…..the RNC does not resemble the America I live and teach in. I live in what is a red state, but we have more diversity than people realize. I LIKE my freshman classes that are a glorious mix…..just like the DNC.
Where is Chuck Todd’s snark now???
Dudette, I feel so bad for you. We were all so excited for you, and I know you were through the roof. Weather can sometimes be nasty, and this hurricane Isaac has been mean. (Every time I think that, I think of my grandson Isaac, who is not at all mean!)
Spotted on MSNBC: Women make up HALF of the DNC delegates – not sure about the RNC count. There were “less than 55″ African-American RNC delegates last week; there are at least 500 African-American DNC delegates this week. There are 500 Latino DNC delegates – not sure about the RNC count.
I was soo looking for this info jacquelineoboomer. Thank you!
Wish I saw more complete facts on it – but at least we have the African-American comparison (and I’d sure like to know where the 55 AA RNC delegates were last week … at their ’08 convention, I looked at a full night’s coverage of their hall and counted SEVEN).
They we’re allowed to be all on camera at the same time…..they didn’t want to scare off any teabaggers.
More photos from last night:
New post everyone:
AF1 Landing now
C-SPAN One is showing Pres. Obama’s arrival to DNC 2012. Sooo excited!
