Hahahahahahahahahaha. It’s all white everywhere at the RNC convention. At DNC2012 they didn’t need to hunt for diversity; it was there in all forms. It’s bloody wonderful to be a Democrat and be a part of a party that celebrates inclusion.

It’s good to know the facts to push back on their lies….we can’t wait for corporate media to do its job, we know their agenda.

Paul Ryan caught lying again. And again. And again.

He was at it again on Sunday, making up numbers and just flat out lying about job creation and bankruptcies under Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.

In comparing President Obama to Jimmy Carter, Ryan said in July 1980 the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent and “for the past 42 months it’s been above 8 percent under Barack Obama’s failed leadership.”

… but in July 1983, when Ronald Reagan was president, unemployment was at 9.4 percent. In July 1982 it was higher at 9.8 percent.

Yep, I couldn’t believe that Reagan got re-elected because the economy and job prospects where worst than today. I was a new graduate in 1982 and the recession was still around but people were still hiring in 1980 and 1981, but by the end of 1981 the job market dried up, we had high interest rates, high inflation and Reagan had increased the SS taxes on workers. When I did find a job in 1983 I made $16K a year and my take home was about $800 and my rent was $400.

      • September 5, 2012 at 1:40 pm

anniebella, this is one smart, gorgeously warm, open convention. I’m just so thrilled with ALL of it.

I volunteered at the last one so I never got to see the TV coverage or the speeches live until PBO gave his acceptance and Chicago HQ comped me a ticket at the last minute because I was luckily assigned to the reception desk at their bank of makeshift offices on that day. Otherwise I wouldn’t have seen any of it. My sense of this event is that it’s much better organized, the volunteers are much better utilized (it was sometimes chaotic in 2008) and the planning was much more focussed on all the things that matter. I feel for them that they have to move PBO’s speech because that is going to require a lot of time and energy to pull off. But I have faith that it will be fantastic in all respects.

After his comments about PBO, I can’t for the life of me, figure out why folks:
        1. still listen to anything he says
        2. are surprised by anything he says
        3. post anything he says
        4. waste pixels on anything he says
        5. act as if he’s relevant
        6. give his name hits on the innerwebz

but that’s just me. Even when I see him on the tee and vee box, I take him with a grain of salt. He’s like fog, you can see it, but it doesn’t have any substance.

Nate Silver gives it to President Obama: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/05/sept-4-the-simple-case-for-why-obama-is-the-favorite/

“…you’ll notice that our forecast has moved toward Barack Obama over the past several days. It now gives him about a three-in-four chance of winning the Electoral College on Nov. 6.

I’ll explain a little bit more about how the model comes to that conclusion in a moment, but the intuition behind it is pretty simple:

    1. Polls usually overrate the standing of the candidate who just held his convention.
    2. Mitt Romney just held his convention. But he seems to have gotten a below-average bounce out of it. The national polls that have come out since the Republican National Convention have shown an almost exact tie in the race.
    3. If the polls overrate Mr. Romney, and they show only a tie for him now, then he will eventually lose.”

  14. 60 cookemom
    September 5, 2012 at 1:33 pm

Mitt tweets that the real reason the venue moved inside was because PBO scared that he couldn’t fill the outdoor stadium due to lack of enthusiasm. Wow, how petty and what a reach to even suggest that. I told you they’re getting desperate. That sounded like something a middle schooler would post.

It really is too bad that so many won’t be able to experience PBO up close and personal. The campaign was going to use the opportunity to register volunteers and voters. I’m sure they’ll find another way. 65,000 people with tickets are pretty bummed right about now.

What a pitiful man Mitt Romney is, thank goodness he has all that money stash overseas so when he lose in November he can go get some help. Tell Mitt and Ann to come to the arena Thursday night and he will see that we back our President because we like ,respect, trust him. We believe he will help the middle class, the poor. We can’t he it that the Republicans are backing him because they hate President Obama, not because they like or trust Mitt Romney.

I remember her fake outrage about Hillary Rosen’s comments…..just to be caught on tape a few days later saying that it was her best birthday present.

PBO would never do a petty tweet like that. This morning Robney’s head is spining. They were exposed on National tv for the liars they are. I am sure they will continue to repeat the lies, but more people are aware, and we have 2 more nights to go. We are not done yet. Ted Strickland was our official attack dog last night. Harry, Harry, Harry was great also. :)

I’m trying to be a big girl about it, but I’m sad about the change in venue. I knew rain was a possibility, but I was so hoping we would luck out again like last year in Co. It was so impressive and unique with that huge crowd outside. But I guess it could have been a disaster too if there were t storms, so they can’t take chances. And what do they do with all those people who now will not have seats—–40,000 of them to be exact?

Here’s what I think Rep Claybourne said, the stadium seats 65,000. The convention hall seats 17,000. They have/had 19,000 on the wait list for indoors as of now. Not sure, either way it’s a bummer.

Cool article on Tracy Reese, the women who designed FLOTUS’ DNC dress:

Ms. Reese, an African American designer who was born in Detroit and launched her collection in New York more than a decade ago, is known for her use of bright colors and flattering, feminine silhouettes. She is among the more affordable designers selling in luxury department stores, with dresses running around $350. She has dressed Mrs. Obama before, including for the First Lady’s Ebony magazine cover in May.

“I was moved to tears by Mrs. Obama’s amazing speech. I knew she was speaking from her heart and she touched mine,” Ms. Reese tells Speakeasy exclusively. “As always I couldn’t be more proud to have the opportunity to dress her.”

      Michelle Obam’s dress was only $350.00 . Ann Romney’s was 1,400.00

But Cindy Mc Cain is the winning with the Convention outfit of 300,000.

      • September 5, 2012 at 1:59 pm

I totally loved the dress and was surprised to learn the price. Tracy Reese does a low end high fashion line.

        September 5, 2012 at 2:45 pm

I understood the quote above to say the designer sells dresses in the $350 range in dept. stores, not that FLOTUS’ dress cost $350 or not that the designer doesn’t retail far more expensive dresses. Of course, it hardly matters IMO since FLOTUS has the means to pay whatever she thinks reasonable for her clothing.

Fact-Wreck: CNN Subjects Democratic Convention To ‘Reality Check’ Based On A Lie

Convention anchor Anderson Cooper tossed to Burnett with an innocent-sounding “Let’s go to Erin Burnett and Tom Forman for a reality check.”

“A lot of things were said this evening, making fact checkers everywhere very busy,” Foreman began. “But there was one cornerstone claim of the Democrats tonight, they pounded it like a nail, that President Obama has created more than 4 million jobs since taking office.”

He then played several clips of Democrats touting the improvement in jobs numbers over the last 29 months. “So it’s clear,” Foreman said, “the claim is the President created 4.5 million new jobs since taking office.”

The problem here is not in the math,” Foreman continued. “More than 4 million jobs have been created.”

Great, so the story is that Democrats told the truth! Good news, for a change.

“What is missing here is context,” Foreman continued, and Burnett chimed in “Yes, and context is everything.”

      September 5, 2012 at 2:19 pm

A whole new fact-checking industry has been created by major news outlets in order to avoid the cost of real investigative reporters. It’s much cheaper to pay someone to sit and search the internet, then rate what was said based on that search. The truthfulness of the fact check is only as good as the person is willing to dig deep enough to find it. One has to wonder how thorough they are when time constraints are put on them to rank a statement before the person even makes it. Fact checking, a new and narrow specialty invented to circumvent real journalism.

Arrrrgh!! Sooo depressed! Might not be going to Charlotte afterall. Thursday events moved back indoors to the Convention Center due to expected thunderstorms. Can’t fit 65,000 people into arena for 20,000, so they’re canceling community credentials. Weighing whether to go ahead and drive to Charlotte anyway and take my chances just hanging out or just stay home.

    http://www.demconvention.com/stadium-event-moved-due-to-severe-weather-forecast-credential-holders-invited-for-call-with-president/

Gotta go to a work meeting. Will update later. I think I wanna cry.

  27. September 5, 2012 at 2:26 pm

Probably not good timing with this comment, since so many are disappointed about the Charlotte venue. However, 950 miles away…

I got my ticket for Friday’s big event – so did LOTS of people. I like this quote: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance,” said University of Iowa senior Chris Engels, 21, who was in line for a ticket after having seen Obama on his previous visit to Iowa City in April. “Well, twice in a year.”

    http://www.press-citizen.com/article/20120905/NEWS01/120905004/Hundreds-line-up-for-Obama-tickets

My building has become a different place today – we have lots of orange snow fence in between us and the next building. There was a guy out there this morning with a metal detector, checking the lawn. And this noon they maneuvered in a forklift for some strange reason. We have strangers wandering through our offices with weird-looking equipment. Our building will be closed the whole day and we haven’t yet been told where our “alternate work site” is – so I may have to just use up some of my vacation stash.
