Big Apple Pizza

I’m sure you’ve read about Scott Van Duzer’s pizza place being boycotted and trashed on review sites today by GOPers because of his ‘meeting’ and support for the President yesterday.

The fight-back has been fantastic. For example, on Yelp, where they were rating him down and saying disgusting things about his business, people like this have been responding:

Sorry to hear the GOP propaganda machine learned how to use Yelp to operate possibly the most primitive form of internet trolling – artificial ratings. I have much more pressing chores (grading papers and cooking dinner) now, but I’m sure the GOP have stained the ratings with Faux News horse sh*t as “you didn’t build that”, “communist President” etc.

Just play by the rules, provide healthcare to employees, and give women parity and I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on! I can’t wait to visit my best friend in FL and give Mr Duzer some business.

He’s now received so much support – and so many pizza orders – he’s asking people to donate to his foundation instead.

  The Van Duzer Foundation

I love Dems!

Ok, so, my donation tally for the past two days:

Yesterday: Reactivated my OFA monthly donation — there was some glitch with my card. Upped it to $35 a month, so a bit more than #ONEDOLLARADAY

Today: Gave $30 to Mr. Van Duzer’s foundation.
Gave $70 to Act Blue’s top candidates.

As I’ve been saying, these polling numbers have turned me from just trying to secure PBO’s re-election, to a wholesale demolition of the right wing apparatus in this country. We can do this. We must do this. And when responsible conservatives re-emerge, they can participate in perfecting the union.

    • September 10, 2012 at 8:24 pm

      Let’s Get It Done!!!

    • September 10, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Yes, the only way PBO’s actions can actually help this country is by having a House and Senate that aren’t obstructing his every move (think Job’s Bill one year anniversary this past weekend).

This is what coattails is all about!

      Dem leads in NM Senate:

      North Dakota is a toss-up:
      http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/senate/nd/north_dakota_senate_berg_vs_heitkamp-3212.html

“Republican nervousness is spreading and threatens to turn into a stampede.”

“tougher road to 51 Senate Republicans now face”

      And finally, our favorite wingnut:
“Jim Graves internal poll showing he is within two points of Michele Bachmann.”

    • September 10, 2012 at 10:11 pm

I am doing the same here in Wisconsin – we have to take back the state senate and assembly to the dem side so Walker cannot push any more crazy bills through and then try to get Tammy Baldwin elected to the senate. I might be stuck with Sean Duffy for my rep though as they have redistricted and added more republicans to his area so he’s pretty much a shoo-in. We have to get the Congress on PBO’s side or he’ll continue to be obstructed.

“As I’ve been saying, these polling numbers have turned me from just trying to secure PBO’s re-election, to a wholesale demolition of the right wing apparatus in this country.”

I am with you 100%! We must seize this moment to make sure that that Democrats regain their majorities in Congress. With Democratic majorities in Congress, the country can look forward to sane policies that will improve the lives of people and prevent the government from sending young people to fight in another dumb war.

Mitt Romney has been turned away by a large union whose endorsement he hoped to win.

The 330,000-member Fraternal Order of Police, the country’s largest police union, announced that it would back no candidate for president this year, the first time the group had passed on an endorsement in its 98-year history. The union backed the Republican nominees in 2000, 2004 and 2008, and backed President Bill Clinton in 1996.

      September 10, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Yes, but I’m PISSED that they didn’t endorse PBO either! After he fought like hell to keep firefighters, police and teachers from losing their jobs! Are they KIDDING!! I’m half temped to send them an email and ask them if they understand who’s on their side? If they understand that R govs are shit canning these public servants left and right! This makes my blood boil.

      • September 10, 2012 at 8:27 pm

The firefighter unions have endorsed Obama. THEY know who has their backs.

      • September 10, 2012 at 8:28 pm

It’s incredible that they’ve supported Republicans so often, and aren’t endorsing PBO now – talk about being clueless about your own interests. But considering their usual political allegiances, this a huge embarrassment for Romney. And as Dudette said, I think the leadership know pretty damn well where the rank and file’s vote will go.

    • 58 Dudette
      September 10, 2012 at 8:26 pm

So that really means their membership is going with PBO. They’re just to shy to say it out loud. Fine, just vote then.

      • 59 nathkatun7
        September 11, 2012 at 1:02 am

Absolutely! I think the rank and file made sure that the leadership does not endorse Willard. There are quite a few cops who kept their jobs because of President Obama’s stimulus bill. There are also many cops who know that they wouldn’t be overstretched if Congress had passed the American Jobs Bill that the President submitted to Congress last year.

People like a winner. The fact that the Paul Ryan pick was a major fiasco, and that the convention featured the 2016 line-up already priming for their spaces, plus Romney’s poor performance in Europe and then on Sunday – with his wife having to hold his hand… Stinks like a big loser.

reads like a tragedy, doesn’t it? boohoohoooooo!

‘ Until Romney breaks this cycle, he is in danger of living out the Haley Barbour dictum: in politics, bad gets worse. Super PACs might start shifting their money from the presidential race to save the House majority and look to pick up Senate seats. Romney’s own fundraising will take a hit. Stories about Romney pulling up stakes in Michigan and other ostensible battlegrounds will add to the death stench. And there will be an avalanche of suggestions and second-guessing from pundits and Republican operatives and politicians about Romney’s tactics, strategy and staff. ‘

      September 10, 2012 at 9:09 pm

If you don’t know the local issues, then you don’t know the issues. If a strike will deflate teachers from voting for PBO, then I’m not sure they were Dems to begin with. Stop blaming the outcome of a national election on a local teachers strike. They have enough to handle in this climate of anti-union, anti-teacher environment. This is an Illinois, no…..a Chicago issue and there’s no jeopardy to any election based on this teacher’s strike. As I stated elsewhere, there’s not a child in the Chicago Public School system whose parents will not vote for PBO. Any adult who would vote for Mitt in Illinois, does not have a child affected by this strike.

        • 114 cookemom
          September 10, 2012 at 9:39 pm

More than an opinion this time Jovie. I’m up close and living this strike. I don’t have kids in the Chicago School system, so I don’t have a personal interest other than the welfare of those kids. There is no legitimate reason to politicize this local issue as if teachers will bring PBO down. You are doing to teachers what the Pubs do, devalue them as if they have no rights to negotiate their issues. Who cares about a target on Rahm? He’s the mayor and he needs to do what mayors do, help settle this thing. He asked for this job, now he needs to perform it. If you think for a moment, that this impacts PBO, then you aren’t too confident in PBO’s election chances. Illinois is solildly blue and we’re the only ones who get to vote here. Find a real issue to complain about, this isn’t one of them.

PBO’s favorability is back to where it was BEFORE the TP craziness (Nov 2009, 53.1%):

  27. September 10, 2012 at 8:54 pm

Hubby and I just sent in our absentee ballot request forms so that we can vote for PBO on Septemeber 27. I don’t know why Iowa is doing it this way, but works for me! Now, if only we could fulfill the rest of that old saying “Vote early, vote often!”

    • September 10, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Republicans LOVE voting absentee. Their return rate of absentee ballots is high. Dems need to embrace this also and do likewise.

It’s less restricting than going through the Voter ID hurdles and they cannot monitor as to whether you are actually absent on the day. Less hassle than queing all day and the numbers are immediately reported on when booth closes because ballots are counted earlier.

Ground Zero cancer victims to get compensation
    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/09/10/ground-zero-cancer-victims-to-get-compensation/

NEW YORK — About 50 types of cancer have been added to the list of diseases eligible for coverage in a compensation program for people who became sick after the World Trade Center collapse on September 11, 2001, officials said Monday.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health said it had confirmed a recommendation made in June to include the cancers, which break up into 14 categories.

“The final rule adds to the list of WTC-related health conditions each of the types of cancer proposed,” World Trade Center health program administrator John Howard said in a statement.

A $4.3 billion fund is available for 9/11 health victims but until now cancer sufferers — believed to be in the many hundreds — have not been able to place claims of their own. The new rule will take effect in mid-October…. [more in the article]

Rihanna Tells Piers Morgan to “Grow a D**K!

*Rihanna showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards last week with a new cropped hairstyle that immediately became a trending topic on Twitter.

Piers Morgan of CNN got wind of it when she performed during the closing ceremony of the Paralympics Games in London over the weekend, and he wasn’t a fan. The journalist tweeted that Rihanna needed to “grow her hair back. Fast.”

Within minutes of coming off-stage, Riri had fired back, telling Morgan, “Grow a dick…FAST!!”

Unperturbed, Piers asked, “This a good time to ask for an interview?” to which Rihanna surprisingly replied, “Haaaa! Only if it’s not about cosmetics! But phuck yea lets do it!!!!!!!!!”

Yeah, I bet if he does get an interview, he won’t be talking too much crap to Rihanna…she obviously can hold her own! LOL!

I don’t know why she continue to pull out this washed up relic to talk about campaigns. I turned immediately when he repeated “Romney can still win” meme. Pundits keep saying Romney can win on the economy. The only problem is, there are a whole lot of things tied to the economy and Robney flunks everything because we do not know what he will do. Also, all of these pundits are totally forgetting how good PBO is in debates. They act as if Robney is the expert debater.

        • 144 EricFive
          September 10, 2012 at 10:04 pm

Well I expect them to all say that Mitt won or tied all of the debates (just like they did for McCain). I expect MSNBC to start bashing PBO again pretty soon (they were friendly to boost ratings for the Dem convention). Just like Mitt, the MSM is probably waiting for some misstep by the Obama team to pounce (or the msm will create some bullshit “controversy”). I don’t trust any of these media personalities. It is fascinating to see how personally invested they seem in propping up Mitt’s candidacy. From trying to explain away PBO’s convention bounce to giving pep talks to Mitt or giving political advice a al Ed Rendell, the bias is hard to deny or ignore. Any pundit who pretends the GOP’s obstruction bears no blame for the state of the economy is not to be trusted. Their refusal to call out the GOP and lay blame where it belongs is what emboldens the GOP to act so unhinged and seditious.

Is he a spokesman for Mitt’s campaign? He sure sounds like it, with the lame attempt to lionize Bill Clinton at the expense of PBO. You should expect more media personalities to come out of the woodwork with similar talking points (they will definitely get booked). Mitt and the MSM realize the Bill Clinton is an effective surrogate to counter the GOP’s race baiting, so they are trying to create a wedge.

Bill Clinton did an absolutely amazing job last week, and I hope he continues to do so during the length of this campaign (and for Hillary, if she ever chooses to run). However, it must always be mentioned that President Obama has spent about half of his time reversing the damage from Bush and Clinton’s presidencies – and that a lot of what emoprogs are angry at President Obama for is actually stuff that Clinton put in place. DADT. DOMA. Glass-Steagall.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury said on Monday it expects to raise $18 billion from its sale of American International Group shares, representing a profit of $12.4 billion to date on the Treasury and Federal Reserve’s investment in the insurer.

The Treasury priced the offering at $32.50 a share, above the $28.72 needed for the government to break even on its investment in the company.

This is the fourth and largest tranche the Treasury has sold above the break-even price. After the sale closes, the Treasury and the Federal Reserve will recover a total of $194.7 billion from the combined investment of $182.3 billion.
