And gunnite folks.
Rats! You beat me to it! Congrats, Amk.
This wimmin will take over for you.
That’s what I was afraid of.
‘Afraid’? You mean you haven’t yet freed yourself from the GOP stranglehold of fear! Come on, amk, man up! Have a good night’s sleep and wake up with all your fears forgotten. Sweet dreams!
A fleeting hello, night amk
Fed launches big stimulus, to buy bonds until jobs rebound reut.rs/Peb0UI— Reuters Top News (@Reuters) September 13, 2012
More money for the banks and stockholders, I see. While my portfolio thanks the Fed, I really don’t see what good this will do in the long run. In fact, from what I’m hearing, it may just be creating issues downstream. Why can’t Congress do it’s job and create real jobs by passing the American Jobs Act? That would be actual stimulus and a real plan to boost the economy.
Loving the enthusiasm.
congrats on first amk, now have sweet dreams. I think this can be considered a dirve-by 1st, since it’s a hi and bye all in one post.
Dow hits its highest level since Dec. 2007 following the Fed's decision to launch "QE3" $SPY— Giovanny Moreano (@GiovannyMoreano) September 13, 2012
This is a BFD. Plus, it’s open-ended so even after the economy continues growing, QE3 will still be on. GOP heads explode in 3….2…1. Congress has been screwing around and finally the Fed had to step in.
Checks and Balances takes on new 21st century meaning… Wondering why the founding fathers did not see the Internet coming!
Love the mountains as the backdrop for PBO’s speech in Colorado. VPJB is setting the room afire. He will devour that RAyn kid.
This is indeed a BFD
Fed decision on QE3…Repub heads are gonna start exploding nationwide…It's a BFD!— Uche (@3ristar) September 13, 2012
Trying to understand it all Dotster, but it sounds mighty good:
I’m no financial guru either (mr. dotster would be laughing his head off about that understatement) but this is why I’m happy with the news
With the recent poll #s for POTUS plus today's Fed decision on QE3, the path to victory in Nov is clearer…likely takes away econ from MR.— Uche (@3ristar) September 13, 2012
“mr. dotster would be laughing his head off about that understatement”
I’m interested to see what Krugman has to say, from a lefty perspective, but he announced he had a cold yesterday so he might not be around today.
I won’t pretend to understand this at all, but I’m encouraged by the reaction of ‘liberal’ pundits so far.
We should also remember that Bernanke was intimidated into doing nothing by Boehner and McConnell about 6 months ago (?) Don’t really remember when. I’m assuming Bernanke thought these asshats would get a clue but with the new threat of hostage taking concerning Moody’s possible downgrade, the Fed has decided that the children can’t play with their toys anymore if they don’t know how to take care of them.
Thank effing God.
WSJ reporting Chicago school strike negotiators are predicting a settlement that would have children back in school Friday. I don’t know where they’re getting this, because I haven’t seen it on local news broadcasts. Hopefully, it’s true and hopefully the teachers have gotten fair treatment so that everyone can get back to school with positive energy.
So, you hope the teachers have reversed Race To the Top?
How’d you get that out of what I posted? Reading between the lines is a notable attribute, but making baseless assumptions is not too flattering. That is all.
Its simple, and try to stay informed, the teachers are re negotiating the terms of how teachers are graded, you know, race to the top!
Since I live here and you don’t, I’m more informed than you ever will be on this. You don’t know jack about the issues and you’re repeating what the Repubs say about unions. Way to go demonizing unions just like they do. Make up your mind whose side you’re on. Isn’t it odd to you that Republicans are backing Rahm on this? You know they hate his guts, so why do you think they back him? It’s because they want the unions to fail at all cost. I never said anything about the negotiations, only that I hoped the teachers were treated fairly. What does fairly mean in your world? In my world it means that people get to have their issues considered and responded to, without prejudging intent, like you are doing. Now let this go, cause you have no foundation on which to build your opinion. You’re just throwing stuff out into cyberspace against these teachers for no apparent reason. Do you know about the overwhelming support the teachers have from the people who actually are impacted by the strike? Or is it that you don’t care, cause unions are the bad guy, like the pubs have convinced you to believe?
PS: Please don’t respond to my comments if you feel you have to be insulting in order to make your point.
I’ve heard that every day this week. I even passed a building on my way home from work last night that had a chryon (if that’s the appropriate term) that had “breaking news” deal reached in Cgo Teacher’s strike”, and then I heard on the radio that things had gone nowhere during the day.
So until I hear it out of Rahm’s mouth, I don’t believe it.
Yep, when I saw the crawler on TV that WSJ reported an end was imminent and school would be open Friday, I turned to local news channels 2, 5, and 7. There was no mention of a settlement. However, there was an interview with the Union head, who said on a scale from 1 to 10, she felt the negotiations were at a 9, cause she’s not a pessimistic person by nature. It sounds like something may break soon, but you’re right, we’ve heard that song before.
Tribune is now reporting it as well. I’m not popping open the champagne until I’m sure it’s true.
Okay this is the first time I’ve paid attention to VP Joe’s Secret Service, or the guy he has in the Reggie Love role. There’s a few cutie pies in the mix and the Reggie Love counterpart is a doll.
Secretary Salazar: "President Obama has walked in your shoes, and he's shown so much courage in leading us." http://t.co/W3ezKpkf— Obama for America CO (@OFA_CO) September 13, 2012
That looks like an absolutely beautiful setting. I’m glad they’re outdoors with good weather.
Now THAT’S effective messaging. “Walked in your shoes”. There it is. That’s the winner.
By the way, there seems to be more people at VP Joe’s rally, than there were at Ryan’s in his own home state.
Waaaaaaaaaaa — you left me!
cookemom, in honor of your daily “geat getting up” greetings:
I literally hear this version in my head when you post; only today did it occur to me to “check youtube”… (Alycée — slow walking into 21st century!)
ha ha, I didn’t leave you, I was just a few steps ahead, but I saw you back there and this is what I said in response.
“Yes, that’s exactly how I feel. It’s how I try to greet each day, uplifted and positive. I believe there’s good news in all things, at all times, even when it seems hard to keep on moving forward. I just try to spread a little of that feeling around as we gather on the TOD porch.”
Cookemom, thanks for the joy you spread!
Alycee – I grew up listening to Mahalia Jackson on our old black and white TV, back in the ’50s – when we probably had five TV channels, tops! Thanks for sharing this.
She could literally make the hair stand up on the back of my neck when she sang certain songs.
I, too grew up listening to Mahalia on the old B&W; additionally, most of my solos were Mahalia’s songs. Had a beautiful voice until I (1) started smoking and (2) stopped using it in Church. I’m a firm believer that God gives each of us a gift, and if we abuse it or don’t use it, we’ll lose it.
The greatest gospel singer God ever created, second is Elvis.
I agree with you on Mahalia Jackson, but Elvis second. I have to disagree there.
Grammys aren’t a measure of greatness but the three Grammys Elvis won were for his gospel songs. I might be a little bias so you are right. The ONeal twins, Andre Crouch, Walter Hawkins, Mattie Moss Clark who created the three part harmony. Yeas, you are right.
I like all of these singers you name but I love listening to Elvis sing “Crying in the Chapel” and I have it on my Ipod. The simplicity and beauty is amazing.
The DOW hit its highest level since Dec. 2007 following the Fed's decision on QE3. GOP heads explode in 3…2..1— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
QE3 is on! Watch GOP heads explode as the Fed takes step to strengthen the economy. washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-kle… slate.com/blogs/moneybox…— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS BLAMING PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR THE RESULTS OF THEIR OBSTRUCTION.
Now might be a good time for some of the ace reporters in the mainstream media to point out that President Obama presented The American Jobs Act last September 2011 and because of Republican Party obstruction it was never implemented. This obstruction clearly slowed the recovery which is exactly what the Republicans wanted. I forget what the estimated job creation number was for the AJA, but I think was at least one million. It would have produced solid middle class jobs for first responders, teachers and construction workers. There was nothing controversial about the AJA at all, except that President Obama proposed it.
So I am thrilled to hear about the action being taken by the Fed. It seems long past due considering how long it has been since the AJA was introduced and basically ignored by Speaker In Name Only John Boehner. But while the GOP heads explode and the crocodile tears flow, the media needs to do their job and expose the Republican Party obstruction. Let’s face it, the Republicans are the problem.
What is needed is not complicated. We don’t need the CEO of Bain Capital to tell us what to do. We know what to do to create jobs. We just need a congress that is interested in governing and working with President Obama for the common good of all Americans. Just as the Republican Party had an obligation to govern and help spur job creation. the fed also has a responsibility to take action when needed. I am glad to see they are living up to their stated mission. It’s too bad we can’t say the same for the unhinged and radical Republicans in congress. Just to recap…….
Proactively looking for ways to spur job creation. Jobs Council. Public/Private Partnership Collaboration, The American Jobs Act, Signed many Executive Orders, Jobs for Veterans.
FEDERAL RESERVE CHAIRMAN BEN BERNAKE:
Taking steps to strengthen the economy with QE3, finally.
Zero Job Creation. Just obstructing, delaying filibustering. sabotaging and hostage taking. They will be the first to whine and cry about any effort by the Fed to address unemployment. Everyone should take notice. Why would elected government officials be against something that is meant to improve the economy and create jobs for all Americans. Those are good questions teed up for the lazy media stenographers. Let’s see if any of them will have the courage to do their job and confront GOP obstruction. I’m waiting, but I won’t hold my breath.
Good post, Ladyhawke.
RT @SarahH_CBSNJ: Pool camera picked up sound of heckler when Romney brought up Libya today. "Man yelled Why are you politicizing Libya?"— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
The backlash begins.
Ok, so that’s what he said. I was watching, but couldn’t make out what he said. It was when Mitt started talking about the tragedy in Libya. Romney said, ‘I would do a moment of silence, but I see there’s a gentleman who wants to keep talking so I won’t do that.’ Then he went on with his stump speech. The guy must have said something else, cause the crowd started to shout, USA!, USA! I wonder how ling it took to take him outta there.
Who would interrupt a moment of silence because of a heckler? If there’s a problem on the world stage, would Romney say, Oh, never mind, I was gonna address that, but somebody’s yellin’?
that’s exactly what I thought. I’m like, “huh?”
He does not handle being challenged very well. He is very petty and vindictive. He lacks the character and emotional maturity to be President.
Community to spend Thursday supporting Bear Hug Pizza Guy | Treasure Coast News – wpbf.com/news/south-flo…— Edwina (@NJedwina) September 13, 2012
Nice! Hope the community continues to rally and support him and his biz. He sounds like the kind of biz man who deserves support, giving back to the community with his blood drives and food drives. A very decent sort, which the Repubs can’t tolerate, it seems.
Just came on the blog so am behind in reading. If I repeat or you have already had this conversation please forgive me. Oh wait! No apologies may be the new mantra and I am in violation of it. hee hee.
I have been wondering if this so called movie director could actually be a part of a cell here. It might have been planned that the movie would create a mob demonstration. I am not normally a conspiracy theorist, but the fire power in Libya at the same time as the protests and the fact that it all took place on 9/11 seems too much for a coincidence to me.
He seems to be part of the tea party Taliban cell that’s trying to destroy America. Apparently, that pastor that wanted to create this exact same chaos last year by burning the Quoran is the same guy who’s been promoting the video and was planning to show it at his little “church” on 9/11. There’s a cell here in the United States all right, and it’s called the Tea Party. There’s a saying about this country only being able to be destroyed from within…
My boss’ wife is in tears. She’s a Coptic Christian from Egypt and even though my boss is batshit crazy, he’s devoted a great deal of time and money to the cause of human rights in Egypt. The Christians really are persecuted there. She has family there and she’s so worried.
A report yesterday was that the movie was made by a Coptic. Just what they need.
Robnry had a new ad our saying the President has lost 500k manufacturing jobs, all to China.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. All that 100+ millions in superpac money raised for Mitt is just sitting on the sidelines for now. They’re waiting for an already planned date and time to unleash the worst attack on PBO we’ve ever seen. My guess is in mid to late October. I think they’re waiting to see how the debates go or if there’s some kind of October surprise that isn’t good for Mitt. It will not be pretty and for people who live in the swing states or the states within a 3 point margin for Mitt, get ready, it’s gonna be brutal.
That’s why early voting is critical. Make those ad dollars mean nothing – people will already have cast their votes before the onslaught of evil.
It’s why I think the push from the Evil Cabal will happen earlier – early voting.
yep, PBO is already mentioning this in some of his speeches.
Two words Jovie. “KITCHEN SINK”.
Two better words (Ha!), COS, “OBAMA WINS.”
Mitt Romney has ZERO CREDIBILITY. He can just TALK TO THE HAND. He started his campaign with a deceptive campaign ad lie about President Obama and he has been lying ever since. DISHONESTY is his stock-in-trade. No one should believe anything he says about anything. He is not capable of processing facts. He has not given anyone a reason to trust him, EVER. With his Libya debacle, his dishonesty and lying has finally caught up with him. Reading all the the posts in the Rise and Shine thread you can just feel the disgust felt by the writers. What he did was repugnant and he can’t un-ring that bell. The fact that he is unfit to be president was confirmed loud and clear yesterday.
Two other words – remote control. Do they envision all of us Americans (or Iowans or ??) just sitting there staring blankly at the TV, mindlessly absorbing what is on the screen?? Everyone I know around here is sick of it after a year, so we don’t watch those ads too much.
Man, Bill Clinton is really taking his “Secretary of Explaining Things” new role seriously. And good for him – hope it lasts. Love how today he said something like (this is totally paraphrased) “You can probably blame W or go back to my administration looking to place blame or go back to the Reagan administration to place blame for the economic reality of four years ago, which President Obama inherited – go ahead blame me – but the one person you cannot blame is President Obama.” That was really quite magnanimous of Bill, when you stop to think that he left a surplus for W to destroy.
I love that.
Romney’s Team Turns On The Press
A frustrating week in Boston. “The polls are close, and so the media starts cheering on their guy,” says one adviser.
uh oh….they might not want to do that.
Seems like they’re trying reverse psychology, since it’s worked all these years talking about the ‘liberal media” and getting the media to work hard to disprove it. But, I think he’s gone too far for that to work. People like a winner. My sister said last night that Romney looks like a loser – everybody sees that.
Your sister is right, you can already see the rats jumping ship.
Maybe THEIR guy should stop being a dick, acting like a traitor and giving a damn about the people of the United States and the world.
This is just so true to form isn’t it? It’s always the other guys fault. Everything that is wrong with American and the world is President Obama’s fault. Republicans had nothing to do with it. And it’s the media’s fault for reporting facts that confirm their candidate is morally bankrupt. The lack of self awareness is astonishing.
Mitt Romney must have curled up in the fetal position upon hearing the Fed’s decision about QE3. They’re making QE3 open-ended. OPEN-ENDED!!!! They were probably tired of republicans screwing around with the economy (I wish the GOP would pass the American Jobs Act and provide an even bigger boost but yeah….wishful thinking) The DOW has shot up. The S&P has shot up! This is a BFD. Even when the economy has begun to strengthen, they’ll try to keep interest rates low and continue on with QE3 so that the economy strengthens further. Did I mention that the stock market is trending positive like mad? The DOW hit its highest level since December of 2007.
This is a BFD. This post convention week has certainly not gone Romney’s way.
This is a HUGE, HUGE BFD. The Fed has given up on Congress, as well they should. That is a very bad signal for Romney and everyone else oh his ticket.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney preemptively pushed against more federal stimulus this weekend, saying that he doesn’t think another round of monetary stimulus from the Federal Reserve would boost the economy.
“I am sure the Fed is watching and will try to encourage the economy, but I don’t think a massive new QE3 will help the economy,” Romney said in an interview with CNN that aired Sunday. “”The Fed’s first action, quantitative easing, was effective to a certain degree. But I believe that the QE2, the second round of easing, I don’t think it had the impact that they were hoping for.”
Romney’s comments echo those of many of his fellow Republicans, who have raised concerns that any additional stimulus between now and the election would boost the markets, and improve President Barack Obama’s chances for re-election.

What’s quite stunning to me is that there was a terrorist attack yesterday. And the DOW is up today. I credit that calm to President Obama and his teaching Americans since the very first underwear bo*mbing in Christmas 2009 that they cannot to dance to the tune of the terrorists. With the GOP, war would have been declared five times by now – look at how Ed Henry was rudely calling for a declaration of war yesterday at the press statement. This President has reversed eight years of conditioning that America must respond to everything with fear and aggression, and people got up today – still saddened – but ready to move on. Proving once again why he is a Nobel Laureate.
Theo, you are so freaking right. Despite the attacks on 9/11 and 9/12 in the Middle East, the markets didn’t take an off the cliff tumble as it usually would have done in the past and I do credit it to the calm level headedness of Pres. Obama.
Very very very fantastic observation Theo. Thanks for pointing that out.
yeah, let Cilizza and Halperin opine that there is plenty of bad news to heap on PBO concerning the flare-ups in the Middle East.
Let’s be clear about one thing: if Mitt Romney hadn’t inflamed the situation, if Bibi hadn’t meddled in American elections and vanquished his ‘big stick’, and if PBO and SoS Clinton were able to do their jobs maybe things wouldn’t have been so bad.
I still have full confidence in PBO and Hillary to do their jobs with dignity, calm and intelligence.
I agree with utaustinliberal. That is an excellent observation Theo67. This is a sea change, compared to the 8-year fearfest under President Cheney. Michelle Obama spoke for many when she said: “I am so tired of fear. And I don’t want my girls to live in a country, in a world, based on fear.”
Michelle Obama – “To Live Beyond Our Fear” speech at Des Moines, Iowa (16 August 2007)
This my favourite Michelle Obama speech – along with her South Africa speech and her speech last week at the DNC convention. This speech was deeply personal and very powerful.
theo67, your comment reminds me of this powerful sentence from President Obama’s Inauguration. I remember when he said. It stuck with me because the imagery it conjures up was quite striking. It was literally like turning a page. It’s really brilliant. PBO never ceases to amaze me.
“What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them ㅡ
that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.”
————President Obama, January 20, 2009
Excellent excerpt from an even more excellent speech. That inaugural speech was the roadmap to this presidency.
I agree a Theo. I would just add that in addition to PBO’s calm and cool soothing the American people and keeping them from panic, PBO has also PROVEN that his words are not empty threats like GWB. The public has seen PBO eliminate America’s enemies at an unparalleled pace. In other words, I think PBO’s competence at being CIC serves to keep the public from the knee-jerk panic of the Bush years.
So true – every time he looks into the camera and makes another promise, I remind myself that this is the guy who killed OBL and ended the Iraq war (plus kept 200+ domestic promises) and I know he means what he’s said.
Good point, Theo. Since my monitor gave up the ghost this morning, this is the first time I’ve been able to comment (with a brand new monitor in front of me) and I wanted to say that yes, you hit it on the head. Bush’s over the top reaction to 9/11 gave Osama Bin Laden a victory far beyond the destruction of the buildings. He showed the world he could literally change America with his actions. PBO put Wednesday’s tragic news in the right context. This was a murderous act by terrorists, i.e. criminals, who will be hunted down and brought to justice just as Bin Laden should have been 11 years ago.
Okay, what is the largest size type font can I use to write THIS THIS THIS? You win the internet today, Theo.
Thank you, Tien Le *blushing*
Mitt Romney must have curled up in the fetal position upon hearing the Fed's #QE3 decision that will provide a boost to the economy.— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
Yep, I turned to a financial channel and the DOW, NASDAQ, and S&P going nuts. They’re saying the last 90 minutes have seen mucho activity and gains. There is a press conference schedule by Bernanke at 2pm est.
Romney dropped another 4.1% on Intrade today to a 35% chance of winning. 8.4% chance of winning on @fivethirtyeight if election held today.— Zach Green (@140elect) September 13, 2012
I don’t see that 8.4 on 538… Nate has it at 19.2 %
According to Nate Silver’s model – if the election were held today, PBO has a 91.6% chance of winning, which leaves Romney with a 8.4% chance.
His projections for November 6 are PBO- 80.8%; so that’s
I meant to type ,… that’s probably where the 19.2% for Mitt Romney is coming from.
The only bounce he’s likely to get now is from riding onto the stage at his next rally on Rafalca………… in his magic undies.
Intrade has been moving quickly and in larger increments in the last few days. Polls are moving, public sentiment is shifting. We are turning a corner.
DOW is at its highest level since Dec. 2007. NASDAQ is up. S&P is up. Mitt Romney and the GOP are gonna be pissed. #QE3— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
Huh. The Dow likes when the government or the Federal Reserve actually does some good. Quelle surprise.
Waiting for FLOTUS.
Not a good week for @MittRomney. He flubs a foreign policy test and now the Fed through #QE3 has approved a new round of stimulus until 2015— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
In a perfect world, congress (the GOP) would pass the American Jobs Act and provide an even bigger boost to the economy. But this is still a BFD.
ut, those sorry “A” bastards won’t do that, it would be the end of lying Mitt then.
Michelle Obama speaking now:
FLOTUS is live in Richmond! http://www.nbc12.com/link/533857/12-news-live-coverage
Thanks a million Foxfire, added the link to the post
FLOTUS has this Richmond crowd all fired up!!
Andrea Mitchell brings on Chris Cillizza (The fix), to reassure Romney that the unrest in Libya will create as many problems for President Obama as they do for Romney.
Andrea Mitchell gets on my one last nerve. What a brilliant observation. Libya creates problems for PBO. Who knew??
Newsflash Mrs. Greenspan, President Obama has been dealing with problems created by the Bush administration since January 20 2009. Namely a financial meltdown, two wars, huge deficits, failing auto industry, you name it. And on top of that he has been dealing with a plethora of foreign policy issues like the Arab Spring. And he has handled all of them, I might add, with aplomb. So of course Libya is a problem for President Obama. HE IS THE PRESIDENT AFTER ALL. AND I MIGHT REMIND YOU WE ONLY HAVE ONE PRESIDENT AT A TIME. You should thank your lucky stars that PBO is in charge and not that opportunist Mitt Romney. And please spare us the both sides do it crap. And it would be great if you just stopped trying to neutralize everything so Willard doesn’t get the scrutiny he deserves. Try to hang to some modicum of journalistic integrity. Stop carrying water for Mitt Romney. How about just reporting the facts and letting the chips fall where they may. What a concept??
My goodness LadyHawke, this rant deserves TOD front page status – no joke..It should be titled “A message to our Liberal Media” from LadyHawke.
Mrs. Greenspan is definitely in the tank for Republicans. The morning after the attack on the embassy in Libya, she had Dan Senor on as an expert. Senor is Romney’s foreign policy advisor. I never watch her show and do not listen to a word she says.
Excellent, excellent, rant Ladyhawke!
Romney created his own problems due to his own incompetence. This is a much bigger, unsolvable problem than anything PBO will have to deal with. International problems can be addressed. Romney can’t be fixed. The president will handle the difficulties as they arise with intelligence, courage and great understanding. Romney is stuck with himself.
Awww…the #GOP has a sad. MT @LoganDobson QE3 will not work in the long run, but will help Obama in the short term. Done!— (@utaustinliberal) September 13, 2012
The GOP heads are already beginning to explode. They’re saying QE3 is the WORST THING EVER and are simultaneously mad that this will help Pres. Obama in the short term.
Mitt Romney must be mad because he pushed hard against another round of stimulus knowing that it would help Pres. Obama as well as the economy.
Hahahahahaha……this is not a good week for him and the GOP.
Let’s be real, the GOP is upset because QE3 will help this country’s economy improve. They want the country to fail, no matter the cost, just in a bid to gain political advantage. They are literally rooting for America’s demise. The GOP puts Party before country. They are anti-American political terrorists.
Arrests made in Libya attack.
That was swift – GOOD! Do you have a link dotster?
Here you go Hopefruit
I hope they’ve arrested the right people.
I hope so too. Thanks Chips!!
Was Mitt Romney arrested?
So where is Miss Ann on the campaign trail? MSNBC showed a clip of Willard’s VA rally today, saying that he’s trying to get the female vote and that’s why so many female speakers were at the rally. But Miss Ann was no where in sight and was not mentioned at all!!!
She was home doing the laundry . (where all good Repub wives are, according to Gov. Kasich)
Did you effing believe that?!?!? And this has become ‘no big deal’ to the American press. Disgraceful.
Found thsi on Gallup’s page from yesterday. It is important:
Thirty percent of Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in the United States. Although low in an absolute sense, the current satisfaction level is the highest Gallup has measured since August 2009 (36%). A year ago, satisfaction stood at 11%.
All told, 6% of Americans are very satisfied, 24% somewhat satisfied, 27% somewhat dissatisfied, and 41% very dissatisfied. Thus, the largest segment of Americans is very dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States. However, that figure is down significantly from a year ago, when 56% were very dissatisfied.
Although they do try to downplay this, it does show that Americans are feeling more positive and less negative, which helps PBO.
Also, out of that 41% of very dissatisfied are Republicans who wouldn’t say a good thing about the U.S. under PBO.
We are turning a corner.
Livestream up for Bernanke’s statement:
Okay, Ann Romney here’s a story from the real world:
I’m having a recurrence of swelling around my face. When this happened a few months ago my doctor determined it was a reaction to my blood pressure meds (it’s a long story, it’s a particular, deformed looking swelling). Understand, I also have asthma. I am self-employed and uninsured and 62 years old.
I called the doctor, I took the proper allergy pill and he called in a prescription for prednisone. I have to monitor if it starts to affect my breathing and get my ass to the ER if possible. If it happens during business hours, I go directly to the doctor for a shot. I’d be lucky to get out of the ER for $2,000 if I end up there.
Now here’s my reality check for Queen Ann: I’m at work. I have deadlines. I have a boss (I’m a private contractor but answerable to him) who has ridiculous demands. My first response to this swelling: how much can I get done before I have to go to the ER? What if I can’t get my work done over the next few days? What happens to the bills if I can’t work?
Needless to say, the stress is making the swelling worse.
Live in my middle class shoes, Ann Romney.
OMG, 57, I’m so sorry you’re in this situation. Please take good care of yourself.
You definitely are living in the real world, 57. I hope all goes well for you today, and you’re able to get to the doctor without more stress – just take it one thing at a time. Ann will soon be back in her elite bubble and out of our hair.
57, take care and hope the swelling is resolved soon. This is indeed the real world that “we people” of the poor, working and middle-class have to contend with.

FLOTUS really got that Richmond crowd fired up! My goodness…
I thought I heard FLOTUS say that PBO’s grandmother was proud to vote for her grandson? I know that PBO’s grandmother passed right before election day 2008, but does anyone know whether she was actually able to vote? That sounds like I’m doubting FLOTUS, but not really – it’s just that it made me so sad in 2008 when Toot died without seeing PBO go on to be POTUS. I hope she did get to vote for him.
His grandmother voted early.
Muscatingegal, that’s a good question, and I too would be curious to know whether Toot was able to cast her vote by absentee ballot, or during some early voting provision. I’ll have to check and see. Will update you if I find out any thing.
She could have completed an absentee ballot, right??
I can’t answer your question, but don’t Hawaii have early voting like most other states. Absentee ballot. I too hope she did get to vote for her Grandson.
I believe FLOTUS knows what she is talking about, and you can vote absentee in Hawaii. And you know that women was going to vote for her Grandson if she had to crawl to vote.
POTUS’ grandmother voted absentee just a few days before she died in late October, 2008.
I remember that day she passed. The news reporter said that Hawaii would count her vote because she did vote early. No problem sometime I do the same thing when I hear POTUS, if I’m conerned I will check it myself. Lol.
They are very excited to see FLOTUS aren’t they.

This would be laughable if it weren’t so sad on one hand.
