has any of the major press reported on the fact that mittbot and miss ann have been spending massive amounts of time in california over the last week or so? in fact, miss ann was coming to california once again when her plane caught fire and they made an emergency landing a couple days ago, and mittbot is there right now, and of course sticking his foot in his mouth even at a private fundraiser where he insults the entire state. president obama is leading by roughly 30% in california.

“the news” was making a big deal about president obama going to wisconsin this weekend and portraying it as a negative for america’s president, yet i haven’t seen a single “news report” mention how weird it is that the rmoney’s have been avoiding swing states in favor of a state where they’re losing by 30%, to fundraise. mittbot (and the entire modern-day republican party) is so incredibly pathetic.

It’s hard work campaigning – not to mention getting people to go to a rally – Mitt & Ann need to rest.

Could the GOP have a big problem with GOTV? Mitt is not generating any enthusiasm – and I haven’t seen much about Ryan recently – where is he supposed to be campaigning?

I hope he has NO designs to run for GOV of CA……we already got rid of one millionaire trying to buy elections. May that’s what Prop 32 is all about, to take away the Unions ability to fundraise against the GOP big money…..NO on 32..YES on 30.

  9. September 22, 2012 at 11:50 pm

    Evening peeps.

Popping in to share this comment on TPM, re Obama field offices compared to Romney field offices.

How about the ground game? Obama has 584 offices in swing states all staffed by paid OFA staff. Here is a comparison by state from campaign websites.

    Obama/Romney
    Oh 101/1
    NC 55/24
    FL 85/46
    IA 66/13
    CO 55/13
    NV 25/12
    NH 22/8
    VA- 42/28
    WI 54/23
    MI 23/22
    PA 44/24
    NM 11/7
    583/224

Romney has one official office in each state and then ” Victory” offices shared with local Repub, party who is focused on all state races not solely the Presidency like Obama’s are.

Also Romney has NO offices in other states while Obama has dozens in other states most bordering swing states like her in GA. We have 50 phonebank groups doing 40K++ calls per week into FL and NC and sending canvassers in on the weekends to,help local offices.

Romney may have improved over McCain 4 yrs ago but still lags with 40% as many offices which are NOT dedicated to his election but shared. Advantage?

The GOP thought that the iffy economy and “the black guy just not cutting it” would be enough to waltz in, along with CU money. But people still blame the GOP for the economy, and the black guy is actually quite awesome. And the CU money has proven to be ineffective at best.

Now, my stomach is a bit icky, so I return to doing not much of anything.

Betsy, I don’t think there is any complacency at all with manyof us who support the President. Just today, at one of a very small OFA field office here in San Diego, CA., about 25-30 people showed up on saturday to make phone calls to voters in the the battle state of Colorado. What impressed me the most is that they were people of all ages, races and genders. I constantly hear that Romney’s biggest constituency are older white males. However, at the OFA office I go to in San Diego, there are many older white males who are enthusiastically volunteering to work on behalf of the President’s campaign.

        • September 23, 2012 at 2:03 am

Exactly, nath. This is happening throughout all of America. And, the big difference is the Kochs are ONLY about $ and our massive team is about ‘the march’ that First Lady Obama so eloquently described during her remarks to the CBC, earlier Saturday evening.

          We will prevail.

Yes Indeed! Bobfr! I really sense a renewed effort by many people to transcend the manufactured divisions that President Obama has been running against for all his life. Right now the main stumbling bloc is the large segment of corporate media that is so caught up with pushing false equivalences and manufactured sensationalism. Thankfully, all you twitter warriors and blogs like TOD are fighting back and spreading the truth.

These Republicans will do anything to steal this election, they have already shown that. And we can’t act like this is in the bag, we have to keep registering people and then get them to the polls.

    http://prospect.org/article/talking-themselves

A couple of years ago, bloggers had a discussion about “epistemic closure,” the tendency of many on the right to barricade themselves within a self-reinforcing informational bunker. The danger is that you wind up with a skewed view not only of the facts but of what other people believe as well. This can be deadly for a campaign, whose goal, after all, is to persuade people, some of whom don’t already see the world as they do. And it sure seems like Romney and his people are falling prey to it. The temptation is strong, because everyone who works on the campaign is a partisan who was probably getting much of their information from partisan news sources before they got there.

So when Romney comes out and says triumphantly “I don’t believe in redistribution!” he probably thinks voters will respond with, “Me neither, Mitt! Screw those freeloaders! Viva job creators!” But the more likely response among people who aren’t already committed Republicans is that once again, this rich guy who disdains everyone who isn’t as rich as him is saying, “I got mine, Jack, and the rest of you can go to hell.” In other words, he’s not countering the attacks the Democrats are making on him, he’s reinforcing them.

      September 23, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Unfortunately, what Rombe and all the GOP are saying, I got mine, Jack, and I want MORE…..More government tax cuts, more government bailouts, and more government redistribution to the RICH…..and the low informational swing voters don’t think and vote emotionally for what feels good and whats familiar.

hey, i remember that show! but if he really wanted to pander to women, he’d skip his charitable donations to the mormon church, and give all that money to planned parenthood, and medical research, and after school programs, and civil rights organizations, and community child care centers, and meals on wheels, and on and on. write a big check, myth; then shut up and go away! that will impress women.

from the sunday edition of the tampa newspaper online:

‘ A new Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald/Bay News 9 poll finds 48 percent of likely Florida voters backing Obama, 47 percent supporting Romney, 1 percent with Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson and just 4 percent undecided.
    ~
Obama’s lead with independents grew 6 percentage points while the number of undecided voters dropped 3 points.
    ~
More ominous signs for Romney: He trails Obama, 49 percent to 45 percent, in Tampa Bay, the battleground region that typically decides statewide elections, and he trails Obama by 11 percentage points statewide among independent voters. ‘

That is because of Ryan lying his ass off about Medicare and ACA. Just like I said earlier. Seniors are buying what Lyin Ryan is telling them. See?

    • 68 utaustinliberal
      September 23, 2012 at 6:14 am

Did you also see that his lead with independents grew 6 points and the number of undecideds dropped 3 points? Did you also see that in Tampa Bay, a very crucial battleground region Romney trails Pres. Obama, 49%-45% and also trails Pres. Obama statewide by 11 points among independent voters? Stop panicking Jovie. Everything isn’t a hair on fire moment. Did you not watch the clips of Ryan at AARP and the audience (who are members of AARP) booing him and walking out en masse? Did you not hear the interviews they gave afterwards that show a lot of them know about Romney-Ryan’s lies about Medicare, Social Security and ObamaCare?

The crowds Ryan normally speaks to in Florida are republican seniors who are congregated in retirement homes that are already known to cater to people of that political ideology. They were already going to vote Romney-Ryan. They do not represent the entire older voters in Florida. Florida was always going to be close from the get go but the trends have been positive for Pres. Obama. Focus on that.

      • September 23, 2012 at 6:46 am

I am focusing on Seniors! That is what we have been told to focus on, here in Florida. Sorry, I didn’t clarify my remarks, afterall, I am part of the ground game down here, and know what’s going on. Do you?

        Sorry about that…

First lady Michelle Obama likened citizens flexing the right to vote to the marches, sit-ins and struggles of the civil rights movement in a speech before the Congressional Black Caucus.

“We cannot let anyone discourage us from casting our ballots.  We cannot let anyone make us feel unwelcome in the voting booth.  It is up to us to make sure that in every election, every voice is heard and every vote is counted,” Obama said in Saturday remarks.

Recalling the struggles of the civil rights movement, Obama said that it was imperative for ordinary citizens to flex their right to vote.

“This is the march of our time — marching door to door, registering people to vote.  Marching everyone you know to the polls every single election,” the first lady said. “This is the sit-in of our day — sitting in a phone bank, sitting in your living room, calling everyone you know — your friends, your neighbors, that nephew you haven’t seen in a while, that classmate you haven’t spoken to in years —making sure they all know how to register, where to vote — every year, in every election.”

“This is the movement of our era — protecting that fundamental right not just for this election, but for the next generation and generations to come,” Obama said. “Because in the end, it’s not just about who wins, or who loses, or who we vote for on Election Day.  It’s about who we are as Americans.  It’s about the democracy we want to leave for our kids and grandkids.”

“It’s about doing everything we can to carry on the legacy that is our inheritance not just as African Americans, but as Americans — as citizens of the greatest country on Earth,” Obama said.

Obama also bemoaned the level of apathy in the the country at large.

“How many of us have asked someone whether they’re going to vote, and they say, no, I’m too busy — and besides, I voted last time; or, nah, it’s not like my vote is going to make a difference?  See, after so many folks sacrificed so much so that we could make our voices heard, too many of us still choose not to participate,” she said.

(CNN) — When GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan cruise through Ohio on a bus tour this week, Democrats will be close behind on a bus of their own.

The Democratic National Committee announced their competing tour on Saturday as Ryan prepares to kick off the three-day swing in Lima, Ohio on Monday.
