How about birth certificate. Let’s make sure he wasn’t hatched.
Yeah. And if I find out the name of the person who coaxed him out of the shell, foisting him on the rest of us, God help him or her. Just sayin’.

True. Romney knows better but he needs to keep people’s minds away from his taxes. Cool! Thanks Bob
What a cutie Elijah is. He would make a much smarter and more appealing candidate for president than Mitt. Maybe he will someday.
Does anyone know what Rachel revealed from the Romney video? My dvr did not catch the end of her show.
Nothing. Just techno geek stuff. OOOOh, a clearer sharper video and audio. Plus a chance to reiterate how their show had first dibs, since her name was used. It was kind of a jip as in a misrepresentation.
Sometimes it’s hard to avoid listening to all of Rachel’s self-aggrandizing. When she’s good, she’s good, and when she’s bad, she’s self-aggrandizing.
Mitt Robme needs to look into the camera and tell the world: HE IS NOT SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER. Somone should tweet that to Jeff Foxworthy since that’s the name of his show and he’s a Republican. Maybe he can get Robme to come on his show, only he can’t trip or push the little kids on the show.
Well, ELijah sure knows his stuff and is quite amused by the sheer stupidity of the enntiled serial pathological liar mitt

“Mitt Romney’s trust invested in Cnooc at a time when the US was growing concerned about the Chinese oil company’s multibillion-dollar dealings with Tehran, according to the 2011 tax return released by the Republican nominee for president.
The Chinese investment by Mr Romney’s blind trust prompted accusations of hypocrisy from the Obama campaign on Monday, given Mr Romney’s criticism of Barack Obama for not being tough enough on Chinese “cheaters”.”

How I wish we had early voting in PA. Everything resting on one 12 hour work day is just insane.
an article titled, ‘romney’s tax plan fails the giggle test’:
‘ Unfortunately, CBS’s Pelley didn’t follow up with a question on why some details are apparently perfectly fine while others would be the dreaded “Washington” way of doing things. Nor did he follow up on the mathematical impossibility of Romney’s tax policies. As bad as it is for Romney to still be peddling this stuff six weeks after the TPC made it clear that his math doesn’t work, it’s even worse for a network correspondent to not be prepared to challenge him on it. ‘
It was a glimpse into the whitewashing that will happen at the debates.
Well, I’m stirring from my cave. As of right now, I feel a bit better after being up and down all day. Dinner does that to a guy.
So what did I miss? I certainly hope Mitt said something stupid like, oh, wondering why you can’t lower windows on an airplane at 35,000 feet. Nah, he went to Harvard. Certainly he’s not that stupid.
Big difference between book learning and common sense, eh?
Welcome back, Captain! Hope the sailing’s been smooth.
Finer than fog hair LL. Thanks for asking. However, I can’t leave anymore unless I inform the TOD under penalty of death…:-D
Hi ya, ya.
Glad you are feeling better – we missed you here! So “can’t roll down airplane windows” was a few days ago but the tape just came out. And the 60 Minutes thing was taped so is it possible that he didn’t say anything stupid today? No. He said some sick thing about POTUS describing the Ambassador’s death as a “bump in the road”.
God, I can’t wait until next Wednesday. What time is the debate? Hopefully at a decent time for us West Coasters so that we can make it home from work in time.
Looks like 6pm your time.
Ok, I leave at 6, which means it’ll be NPR until I get home, pop the popcorn, and get on Twitter.
I can’t believe the debate is next week! Yippee! In the brief snippet I saw of President Obama on 60 minutes, he looks ready, and his disdain for Mitt is almost palpable. I can’t believe the right wingers are calling President Obama a liar, in prep for the thrashing that Romney will take during the debate next week. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to watch it.
In “08 I got the sense that Senator Obama was so exhausted from the primary fight and then knowing the whole friggin economy was in a death spiral and Bush wasn’t doing anything that the debates were just one more huge thing for him to handle. This time, he looks refreshed, economy is coming back and with the American people waking up to Vulcher/Voucher he has some room to breathe and to possibly enjoy the debate. “This is the debate I want to have” has been his mantra and I believe him!
Yup, I think you’re right. He said a few months ago that he was looking forward to the campaign, because he had truth on his side. For someone who loves policy – he must really be relishing the debates and his chance to challenge that lying Romney – face to face! I can’t wait.
LL..but “the tress are so small from up here, and the air is stuck outside the window”.
If Barack Obama wasn’t our President, I’d be embarrassed to be an American with someone like Willard running for the office.
I am embarrassed that the whole world sees that a large number of people in this country don’t vote and that half of the people who do vote are stupid enough to what to vote for Willard. No wonder Putin is skitish on signing anything with this country when sometime in the future Americans might vote for a Republican President this stupid and more dangerous as GWB.
What about the hard work OFA has to do to get the low information voter (independents) to the polls.
Would I be out of place to call anyone, who hasn’t made up their mind on who’s the best candidate at this point is an…idiot!
Classmate of Obama & mitt.
“When they debate, Barack will smoke Romney”. A very good read on both men. thedaily.com/page/2012/05/2…— (@amk4obama) September 25, 2012
The Repubs will be spinning like tops before and after the debates, so I hope nobody becomes complacent. They are desperate now, and will say anything and tell any LIE to win.
Much as I want O to kill this bastard in the debates, the lowering of expectations is really not helpful. And the truth is he is not that bad a debater. He will have catchy comebacks, slick answers that really don’t answer the questions and will generally be able to hold his own. He is not as dense as W. His weakest point is the contradiction of his own words from days, weeks, months and years before. Unless that comes back to haunt him, I don’t think he would do that badly. I hope O will be allowed to ask him questions directly.
The format of the debates are what Mitt Romney is counting on – plus the spin and the pandering of the media and moderators. I don’t think there’s going to be any back and forth – I think there are two minutes each to respond to a direct questions, and then a minute of rebuttal. Romney will be able to lie with alacrity, and his rabid followers won’t be bothered by fact-checkers. I have no doubt that the President will do well, but I certainly don’t anticipate that Romney is going to be particularly challenged by the moderators or his supporters.
My fear is that Mitt will have one good retort and that’s all you’re going to hear about.
I hope dKos does the list of online polls rights after the debates so we get our voice out in local papers and online. Twitter doesn’t replace what the low information voter hears on their local news or reads in their local newspaper.
“Mitt was not particularly popular. He was very, very ordinary. He was an average Cranbrook student,” said Barthwell, 64.
“He was not an athlete, he was not a student leader, he was not a scholar. The thing that separated Mitt there was that his father was the governor of Michigan.”
That is exactly what I suspected—-the only thing he ever had going for him was the accomplishments of his father.
I have one answer for critters like Fineman and Romney who are trying to make a fuss about the expresssion “bumps in the road” :
I did not know that one of the official duties of this POTUS is to teach people basic English. Goes to show WHY it dangerous for rightwingers to repeatedly trash teachers.
even I, who uses English is a second language, was able to learn this basic phrase in class conducted under a mango tree
They are trying to use anything that will inflame their rabid base. Everybody knows what the President was actually saying, and it’s highly offensive for Mitt – who callously attacked the embassy staffers while they were being attacked and dying – to use the death of the Ambassador for his political nonsense. He’s totally offensive.
One thing for DimMitt to push it. Howard Fineman did not HAVE to do Mitt’s bidding, and that was what it was. I know this is hard to believe but for many years Howard Fineman was a very respected left of center journalist. He could have just as easily put some water on that flame and instead jumped all over it, for Mitt’s benefit. An expression like that is inocuous, the RWNJ’s are looking for ANYTHING and Howard helped them. It was awful and craven.
Something happened to Howard Fineman when he went to that tea party convention two years ago. Ever since then, he’s been a tool. And he sits on every single show spouting his misinformation – from his secret sources, dontcha know…
You don’t get chosen to be the editor of HuffPo news unless you’ve Gone to the Dark Side. which he appears to have done, willingly.
That was shameful of Fineman to try and push that nonsense. He might as well be Mitt’s campaign spokesman. They are searching so hard for a gaffe by PBO (remember the bs last week about PBO saying change comes to Washington from the outside). Mitt/MSM are pathetic and they are just throwing shit against the wall to see if anything sticks. As for the debates, I’m confident that PBO will make Mitt look foolish. He was not a strong debater during the GOP primaries and he does not handle going off script very well. I’m sure the MSM will declare Mitt the winner of all the debates, and will try and create some gaffe or the other for PBO, but PBO will prevail among the reality based community (just as he did in 2008).
Serious question: are there any other sports besides American football and sumo wrestling which welcome fluffy men as athletes?

Chips should put this up in rise & shine.
I heard about this on the radio this evening, and I was screaming at the radio that they need to mention that it’s because of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that people are getting this money back.
BBC (the original source) did.
America’s sixth-largest credit card issuer has agreed to pay $200m (£123m) in refunds to settle accusations it misled customers into add-on services.
Discover Bank will also pay a $14m fine, after regulators said it enrolled clients in schemes such as credit monitoring, without consent.
It is the third public enforcement action taken by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
More than 3.5 million customers are to receive refunds.
Perfect – too bad it’s not being made public on a station that Americans will actually hear. BBC also played the Romney hidden video on the first night it was released, too, while MSNBC and NPR were still “verifying”.

poll data looking great for pbo, and better and better for dems (from sam wang):
‘ Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) was partially correct when he said about Romney: “If the election were going to be held tomorrow that would be a problem.” Take a look at today’s Meta-Analysis update:
Something fairly notable is happening.
In one respect, Governor Christie might not be correct: there has been a problem for Romney for months. Things are not particularly worse today. However, this kind of shift is likely to be accompanied by a considerable downticket shift as well. Looking at the trend, a further surge for the Democrats is likely in the coming days – possibly including Missouri and Arizona at the Presidential level. So an election tomorrow might contain the damage for Congressional Republicans. ‘
This is good news, but I won’t rest easy until November 7. Democrats have a way of “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory”, and the right wingers don’t play fair. Keep the focus!
This was true about Democrats before 2008. Obama has put a skyscraper’s worth of steel in their spines. Even the CBC has stopped bitching.

What a dumb question. Chuck knows very well how the filibuster works and how each branch of gov’t works. He was trying to stir up something. Xavier finally cme around. He use to be very vocal bashing PBO on immigration.
Chuck Todd was trying to set Xavier up for some “context free” PBO bashing. Thankfully Xavier did not take the bait. Todd and the rest of the MSM work hard to keep American’s ignorant of how our system of government work. It is easier to manipulate a citizenry that is ignorant of how the system works.

I wonder if it occurred to Mitt Romney the irony that when his wife had her incident with the plane, he was worried about her, he spoke to her immediately after she landed, and he was able to quickly discern that she was safe. Nobody rushed to a microphone to attack her while she was going through her ordeal. Nobody used the incident to attack Mitt Romney or their family members. Nobody has spread vile rumors about him or Ann since the incident. People have generally been grateful that no harm came to Ann or anyone else on her plane.
Mitt didn’t offer the families of those embassy staffers the same courtesy when they were going through a life and death situation. It was several hours before all those embassy staffers were safely evacuated from Libya, and he was attacking them while they were being attacked. While some were busy dying. To this day, he’s still inflicting pain on their families and friends, by trying to use them and their memories to further his political ambitions. And we all know that if he had asked, President Obama would have welcomed him at the ceremony to help welcome home the bodies – as a fellow American who may one day be Commander in Chief.
Mitt Romney is a disgrace.
One other note: Every time I hear some right winger talk about how much the Romney’s donate to “charity”, I ask why we have never seen Mitt actually donating any of his time at a food bank, or rescue center? Where is Ann’s contribution to real people? The most they do is write a check to their church – which they are required to do. They don’t actually seem to care about people. And his handling of the Libyan crisis at the embassy just illustrates that.
Excellent post, theo. He is a selfish sociopath.
all true, and very sad. it’s shameful that they behave as they do.

If you’re planning to vote for Mitt Romney in November, I can only assume the following:
You’re relieved that his campaign isn’t dictated to by fact-checkers – because facts totally confuse you.
You’re not bothered that he amassed a fortune by outsourcing US jobs – because yours wasn’t one of them.
You’re duly impressed by the fact that he’s not afraid to look you straight in the eye when he lies to you.
You’ve traditionally voted for the candidate who owns a car elevator.
You lost a bet – big time.
You like a candidate who is willing to change his position from one minute to the next – because eventually he’ll say something you actually agree with.
You’re not a fan of the truth – never have been, never will be.
You did so well during the last economic crisis, you can’t wait to live through another one.
You hate dogs.
You’re impressed with being offered a clear choice: (a) he was lying about Bain then, or (b) he’s lying about Bain now.
There’s more! Way more…..
Brilliant! And sadly true.
Most of these people are supporting Mitt Romney because he is white, they don’t like the fact that black man is in the WH.
sad but you hit the nail on the head.
Nice quote from Picasso:
‘My mother said to me, “If you become a soldier, you’ll be a general, if you become a monk you’ll end up as the pope.” Instead, I became a painter and wound up as Picasso’.
I hope that some of you who regularly contact journalists via Twitter will pass along this question: “If the reason to have low capital gains tax is to encourage investments that create jobs, how do Romney’s tax returns prove or refute this rationale?”
From what I’ve read about his investments, it’s not obvious that money in the Cayman Islands or in Swiss bank accounts can be proven to create jobs in the US. Since that’s the talking point about low taxes why hasn’t someone used him to prove or disprove his point?
looking forward to the debates?
‘ Way back in 1992 I became the first woman and first minority to moderate a presidential debate. This past summer I was constantly asked, “Why hasn’t another woman moderated a presidential debate?”
Why people thought I had the answer, I don’t know. It should have been directed to the Commission on Presidential Debates. Supported by the Republican and Democratic Parties, the Commission has been responsible for producing the debates since 1987. Together with campaign officials for the candidates, Commission members decide the dates, locations, formats and moderators for the one debate for vice president and the three for president.
Allow me to point out here that of the 17 members most are male and white. Only two women serve on the Commission. Perhaps a problem? ‘
I’ve also been wishing more journalists would have explored Robme’s actions as a Mormon bishop – especially as they relate to the GOP war on women (which sadly has become hidden behind Robme and cRyan’s gaffes). Found this:
“Chosen as a kind of enforcer-in-chief, Romney betrayed a zeal far beyond the call of duty. Bishop Romney tried to stop a mother of four whose health was seriously endangered by her pregnancy from having an abortion. The church allows abortion in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother, provided a male LDS authority gives permission to the pregnant woman. Romney’s superior had already told the woman to proceed for the sake of her health; Romney intervened. Romney refused to allow an infertile couple to take advantage of the LDS adoption service until the wife agreed to quit her job and be a stay-at-home mother. Other reliable reports of Mitt’s years as a Mormon clergyman have him excommunicating adulterers, calling homosexuals under his authority “perverse,” warning a middle-aged divorced woman that she was not allowed to have sex, and telling a leading Mormon feminist, “You’re not my kind of Mormon.”
he’s an evil creature–on that point there has been no flip-flopping.
hey guys got off work an hour ago and boy I am tired. Worked 13 hours and it was all heavy lifting! I guess the stress really overwhelmed me and I had a mental break down and am incredibly sore. interesting article, but zero mention of potus’ work in improving school lunch standards:
‘ Mission: Readiness, a group of more than 300 retired generals and admirals, is releasing a new report today saying that the 40% of students who buy high-calorie, low-nutrient junk food from school vending machines and cafeteria a la carte lines consume an average of 130 calories a day from those types of foods (candy, chips, cookies, pastries). That’s roughly 5% to 10% of the calories kids and teens should eat in a day.
Three-quarters of those ages 17 to 24, or about 26 million young people, cannot serve in the military, a quarter of them because they are overweight or obese, says retired Air Force lieutenant general Norman Seip, a spokesman for Mission: Readiness, which advocates policies that would help young Americans get ready to serve. ‘
though bbc states, ‘ It is rare for the Queen to express opinions on such matters. ‘ she did indeed voice ‘ concerns to the previous government about the inability of UK authorities to arrest Abu Hamza al-Masri. ‘
‘ On Monday, a European Court of Human Rights ruling paved the way for the radical cleric to be extradited to the US after an eight-year battle.
Abu Hamza is wanted over allegations he plotted to set up a terrorist training camp in the US and was involved in kidnapping Western hostages in Yemen. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment. ‘
bbc home affairs correspondent states ‘ The legal and political importance of this final decision by the European court cannot be overestimated. In the wake of 9/11, Washington and London developed extradition and counter-terrorism strategies designed to make sure that suspects, wherever they were, would face justice. ‘
bloomberg consumer comfort index climbed to a four month high in september:
‘ Improving consumer moods bolster President Barack Obama’s re-election prospects in a campaign that has been largely fought on economic issues, said Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center in Washington.
“If the public feels better about the economy, they’re going to feel better about Barack Obama,” Kohut said.

Said Horner: “I deeply regret decisions I made that are causing my family unjustifiable pain and embarrassment… My family still deserves better from me, as do all my friends, supporters and constituents.” ‘
Sorry if offends to mention MJ, but Joke and Chuck Todd are the most disgusting, lying humans. But all, including Eugene, are beating up on Obama for not meeting one on one with world leaders—–all are furious about The View. You can see hate for Obama emanating from Todd whenever he speaks. He just said you have to have a “genetic disorder” to want to be/be president——that Obama is “introverted” and doesn’t want to meet with anyone. What a lying, dishonest mess this program is.
blah..blah…blah….cable chatter ( as our president calls it ) Most have stopped listening. These guys are not experts on anything but criticism. I include Richard Haas and anyone else sitting at that table……
Mika knows more than any of them on foreign policy because of her father.
And her Brother was named Ambassador of Sweden by this President.
Just wanted to know, if you know what crap is on Morning Puke, why watch? It’s the same shit different day. Not asking to offend, just trying to understand.
I have no idea, perhaps conditioning? I also want to wake up and know the President is ok, doing well. Just a fear I have, but it’s real.
Anyways, good morning!
Because I want to know EVERYTHING that is going on, not just the good stuff. I want to know what is being said and spread so Obama supporters can respond to the lies and smears. And even tho we think certain shows like MJ lack honesty and fairness, they still have influence—–and their themes spread throughout the media and in turn get blasted out to the masses. The objective is to try to stop the nonsense before it spreads and becomes “the truth”.
chuckie mad he’s not in the circles of Obama staff, They not into him, they know he is a fake reporter
Their goes Eugene Robinson agreeing with Chuck Todd, that the President should meet with Foreign leaders.
Of course, after all the hemming and hawing, it’s kind of hard to tell, but Chuck Todd thinks the President should meet with the head of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Yeah! Okay Chuckie.
Is he Nuts?
They are all foreign policy experts…don’t ya know ?
I am laughing……I know I cannot miss Mike Barnicle’s in depth analysis of the Middle East….how about you ?
Glad to see the chattering class suddenly became the master class in terms of foreign policy. I wonder if they too now get intelligence briefing?
It’s always, whatever the RNC sends them for talking points. And then of course, Joke goes rogue sometimes, but never anything positive, EVER. Just a mean and rotten program, that gives you News updates…
Eugene Robinson is a waste of time on the morning shows. Just agrees with everything these hacks say. Has no ideas or countering points of his own. Very frustrating!
I think he is the same on every show…….
I mute him anyway…I just cannot listen to people that stutter that much …same goes for Chris Hayes…..
( no offense to stutterers )
Eugene Robinson takes wishy washy to whole new level. He’s always straddling the fence. Rarely if ever takes a stand that is different from the pack. Mika B. can be just as bad. Hemming and hawing and rarely saying anything coherent or original.
I guess they are referring to a hit piece from the Ny Times that says that this President has not built any relationships with foreign countries.
But Hillary has traveled to over 100 countries, building relationships.
What is the Ny Times talking about?
THE GASBAGS KNOW BEST
It’s like peeling the “Obama Manufactured Outrage Onion”. There must be some PBO outrage for the media to gnaw on at all times. The beast must be fed. The gasbags on the cable shows sit comfortably on their perches and act like armchair campaign managers who have all the answers. Whenever I see these updates on the latest crap coming from the gasbags I say there is a good reason why these folks are flapping their gums on the tv and Barack Obama is President of the United States. Let’s face it, the lazy media stenographers are intimidated by PBO. His brilliance and elegance makes them feel small. So what do they do – they use their professions as a way diminish him. Their lack of journalistic integrity is astonishing. They come across as gossip columnists at a coffee klatch. It’s infuriating.
Ladyhawke you said it best. It’s as if they have a perverse addiction to bashing PBO and even when they speak positively of him, there’s always that subtle dig or caveat, or some concern trolling going on. It’s really infuriating but they’re doing it out of jealousy, as you say.
I just heard David Jackson from USA Today say that PBO’s schedule is not permitting him to have bi-lateral meetings with everyone and it would look bad to only have a few meetings. PBO is on a tight schedule there this time. He is spending one less day there and will be returning to the White House today. Also it is campaign season. They had the big dinner thingy last night. David Jackson is always reasonable and mature about these things. I actually put more credibility in what he says than anyone on morning joke.
Thanks for the update cos. That makes perfect sense to me. It’s unfortunate that the facts just don’t fit the narrative that gasbags like Chuck Todd and Eugene Robinson want to portray.
Here is Clintons assessment of Robney tax plan-
OH: "I was going to be a Republican for Halloween, but my head wouldn't fit up my ass."— Renee (@PurrpleCatMama) September 25, 2012
LOL! Good one.
Morning all. Hope we go back to the 47% are freeloaders and the manipulated tax return stories today.
I’m not a US citizen, but I live in a country with similar social attitudes and life styles to the US – and if I was able to vote in November my major concerns would be
1. Women’s rights to control their reproductive systems – the GOP attacks on abortion and birth control would be my number 1 concern
2. The attempts to suppress minority votes – I was a teenager when the democrats were fighting for civil rights in the 1960s. It is hard to believe that 50 years on the fight is not over.
3. Education – the dumbing down of US education is scarey – that state run schools are being privatized and taken over by religion makes a mockery of the learning process.
4. Unions – the disappearance of unions and the right wing attacks on them results in the living standards of workers going down and down. Another right that was supposedly won a long time ago has to be fought again.
To me the economy is improving (in my world and yours) and foreign policy under President Obama is 500% better than it was under President Bush (also in my world and yours) – so these items that the media and Mitt seem to think are so important – are not relevant to my voting at this point in time. In 2008 – very different – the wars and the economy were critical – but this is NOT 2008.
I would like to know what others think are the critical issues for themselves – the topic of women’s rights seems to have dropped off the radar recently and I think there is still a large % of women that would see this as very important.
Hi 99ts I made a similar remark about women’s right a bit upthread. As a matter of fact I emailed the domestic issue debate moderator this question – paraphrased here. Robme has said he’s okay with abortion in the case of rape, incest, life threat to mother. Given that these are all situations which the Repug platform rejects, would he sign a bill sent to him from a repug congress that outlaws abortion in all cases?
Inquiring minds should want to know, but I haven’t seen it anywhere!
Your list is great.
Today just aired interview w/PBO re. education. He was his usual calm, sensible, impressive self. They announced they will air their interview with Willard tomorrow—-wonder if he’ll admit he wants to cut education funding—-that there’s multi-millionaires who need bigger tax cuts.
He will pander to whatever audience he is on, and then his staff will say, he was just joking!
But Pres Obama will also say he believes "there is still time and space" in which to resolve the standoff with Iran "through diplomacy."— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) September 25, 2012
Bibi is sad!
If you get some time…please watch this….it is about the politics of Geography….I was blown away by it . I tuned in right when the Q & A started so I have to watch the entire show myself.
Center for a New American Security ….The Revenge of Geography.
Robert Kaplan, the chief geopolitical analyst at Stratfor, discussed the role that geography has played in shaping world events and talked about the role it will play in the future.
He was interviewed by David Ignatius and responded to questions from members of the audience at this book launch event held by the Center for a New American Security in the Willard InterContinental Hotel’s Grand Ballroom.
PS…It is on the schedule again for this Sunday @ 1:45
Good morning, everyone.
What a lovely day in NYC!
Crisp, clean, clear.
I FEEL GOOD!
