I believe you are seriously correct. My 9 yr old grandson could explain this! I really think I’ve heard it all and then something like this pops up. Just got home from the doctor’s (one of them – another story) and this hit me right between the eyes. Which might be appropriate since he’s literally a brain surgeon. Yep, desertflower, this man is obviously unhinged or getting there quickly.

He really did say it (cue his handlers TELLING us it was a joke, though).

But the part that really bothers me is the headline on the LA Times story reporting the latest amazing statement from the Repub nominee: “Mitt Romney Pulls In $6 Million at Beverly Hills Fundraiser.” He’s wondering why we can’t open windows on airplanes, and people are STILL giving him that kind of money?? Lord help us.

      • September 24, 2012 at 5:47 pm

Really, ‘The Onion’ may as well close up shop. We are waaaaaaay post-parody now. I also read that he told his California donors that he didn’t like the way some states were following a European-style model, and that he wouldn’t want California used as a model for the rest of the nation. I’m presuming that rich California people like California or they wouldn’t be living there, but maybe I’m wrong.

Doh! I got in at the bottom of the last post again, sorry for the repost. I currently have to lurk because of work :-(, but I have a techie-type question for all you experts:

On my laptop at home, all of a sudden the pictures of the videos on this blog just show up as a square with a large red “start” arrow, no picture. The arrow does not work to start the video either, BTW. Any idea if I’m missing some video add-in or browser update? I’m using Internet Explorer 9 and it works OK at work (hey, I gotta check in during the day from time to time to keep my sanity).

Anyhow thanks for any ideas! Only 3 days until Iowa lets me vote early for PBO! :D

It’s about time someone told the media what the world really thinks of them. not to mention, the people in the State department musty be so emotionally raw right now. I hope they cut this spokesperson some slack. For all we know, he might have known one of the four killed in Libya, or even some of the embassy staff who were in harms’ way – or maybe he just had enough of stupidity.

I’m still mulling over this new (to me) info about Congress coughing up 100,000 to help the LDS families move back to the US from Mexico when Mitt’s Dad was a boy. Another revelation to me is that the Romney family sued Mexico for their loss of property in 1935. Seems the Romneys got $9,163 which is $1,890,000 in todays money. George got a part of that. Mitt says he didn’t get help from his Dad, but seems there was a million in stock handed over. If at any time in my life I would have been given a mil–there is no way I could call myself a self made women. Apparently the Romney clan just don’t get that a million is a whole lot of money.

Iowa: Obama 51%, Romney 44% (American Research Group)

I must have missed some News, I just saw Howard Fineman say that the President has gaffed on Foreign Policy, and he should be held accountable, for what he days embarrassing.
What gaffes? Did he do poorly in the 60 minutes interview? I dint get what Fineman is saying?

The only foreign policy thing I’ve heard about is the RW meme about PBO not changing his schedule to meet with Bibi. My twitter TL isn’t showing that PBO said anything else that I can think of. and of course you well know that Howard Fineman, as an alleged Democrat, has such a fine relationship with teh Repubs who tell him their innermost secrets in order to hurt PBO (I jest, but not that much).

      • September 24, 2012 at 3:35 pm

I just rewind it. They ate making fun of the President for saying, the violence in North Africa is bumps in the road.
That doesn’t sound to bad, it is a euphemism. What is wrong with that?

          September 24, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Not the RW logic, it’s the press that takes their logic as actual issues. It infuriates me.

Of course, PBO meant that there will be ups and downs and setbacks and steps forward on the way to stable governments in the region.

Well, they have to take the focus away from DimMitt wondering why airline windows don’t open.

I heard it on ABC’s radio news this morning that the Republicans are saying PBO said he expected bumps in the road concerning the Arab Spring. Their comment is 4 deaths at the embassy should not be considered bumps in the road. I then watched my tivoed 60 Minutes and saw the two ideas were in no way conveyed that way by PBO or even mentioned together. Fineman is looking to boost the GOP as it is evident he didn’t watch that segment or does not care if he is correct.

    • 59 utaustinliberal
      September 24, 2012 at 3:32 pm

He didn’t gaffe. Howard is making a mountain out of a molehill. Pres. Obama said that we always knew there would be bumps ahead of the road with Libya and Egypt overthrowing their dictators and finding a pathway to democracy. Romney jumped on that statement today with his interview with Peter Alexander of NBC and said how dare Pres. Obama refer to the goings on in the Middle East as “bumps” and Fineman tried to say on The Cycle MSNBC that Pres. Obama had committed a huge gaffe.

Romney’s exposé of Pres. Obama’s redistribution video fell flat so he is now desperately looking for anything because the news has been dominated with his own gaffes on 60 Minutes.

Oh foor goodness sake. He used a figure of speech. The entire Romney campaign is built on taking PBO words out of context and twisting them to mean some ridiculous things.
Romney is now not just desperate and pathetic but shown up as a mean, little person. He needs to just go far away.

    • September 24, 2012 at 3:32 pm

I saw that too jovie when I accidentally flipped to the Cycle. Fineman’s comments were Grade A Bullshyte.

He is just making shyte up. trying to help out Romney by telling S.E. Cupp that PO makes gaffes too or whatever. As soon as he said YES PO’s comments are gaffes, I switched channels.

      • September 24, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I know right? Unfortunately, out in the field, we get asked these questions.
I need to know everything you guys can provide, it’s important, I think we can take Florida, I really do.
Despite Howard Fineman and Peter Alexander, we can do it!

        • September 24, 2012 at 4:09 pm

basically your assessment was on point Jovie. Because PO said there would be bumps in the road, now somehow that is a “gaffe.” Utter nonsense and hogwash. So now they want PO to scream about this is HORRRIIIBBBLLLEEE. BS. Romney works that way. Not our President.

Obviously there will be set backs but there is progress. Slow and steady may not win the race in Pres Obama’s tenure but it sure as hell pushes the ball in the right direction and that makes a difference.

Fineman was so pro Obama last week, he is letting his other side show today. It’s looking to bad for Mitt, so the media are trying to help Mitt Romney. That is all this is about. Seeing the President and Hillary Clinton at the ceremony for the four Americans coming home from Lybia show what he thought of their death. So Romney is searching for something and the sorry media folks like Fineman is trying to help.

        • 68 jackiegrumbacher
          September 24, 2012 at 5:21 pm

AB, also most English speaking people (aside from Fineman and Romney) know that the expresssion “bumps in the road” is a common one to express setbacks, large and small, along the path to a goal. We all experience “bumps along the road” in our life. That’s how we talk to each other. It would be very odd if people always communicated in hyperbolic terms saying that every setback was tragic or overwhelming. People, especially presidents. don’t speak that way. PBO expressed his grief over the death of Ambassador Stevens and he does not have to keep repeating it every day.

    • 69 57andfemale
      September 24, 2012 at 3:39 pm

I guess PBO didn’t specifically say that Israel is our closest ally in the Mideast. Could this be it? The press-morans were pushing this in the press briefing. If this is it, it is Much Ado About Nothing.

Here’s what gets me: the RWNJ’s say something is outrageous, and the lemings follow the lead and ask the President and Jay Carney if what he did was outrageous. When the Repubs do something outrageous, it’s just business as usual.

      grrrrr…………

    • 73 FoxfireTX
      September 24, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Romney is sayng in an interview that the “bumps in the road” that PBO referred to in the 60 Minutes interview included the assassination of 4 Americans, the controversy with Iran and the civil war in Syria. According to Romney, PBO’s cavalier attitude demonstrates his ineptitude on foreign affairs. Of course, it is ridiculous but this is what Fineman was referring to in calling these gaffes. I don’t consider them gaffes when seen in context, he is clearly referring the uprisings in these countries as they learn to live in democracies rather than under dictators but that is today’s Repub meme.

      • September 24, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Of course, here’s another way of looking at it: POTUS is trying to not make everything hair-on-fire with non-thinking finger pointing and inflammatory language. Something DimMitt and the neocons could never fathom. Particularly since Libya is now demonstrating IN FAVOR of U.S.

The President and Secretary of State were present to welcome home the bodies of the slain Americans, days after helping grieving State Department employees deal with the shock of the deaths.

Meanwhile, Romney was first out of the gate to criticize those same embassy staffers, while they were still under fire from an outraged mob. In the same hour that their bodies were touching US soil again, Romney was in front of rabid supporters, attacking the President of the United States. I’ve not seen or heard of him offering any sincere condolences to the families, and he refused to apologize for his comments during the actual attack.

These are the only facts I need to know.

Oh Wow! At loss for words:

There’s an item at Politico today by Anna Palmer that’s probably causing a lot of chuckles around Washington, about the “intensifying” transition plans of Team Romney under the direction of former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt. The general tone is set by this graph:

The transition effort — while necessary and appropriate for a GOP nominee so close to the election — is a jarring contrast to a campaign that appears on the ropes to many Republican strategists. Receiving no bump from the Tampa convention, Romney is plowing ahead with a methodical approach to staffing his would-be administration, despite the fact that his campaign is said by some to need a radical makeover.

You know the Republicans are desperate, now they are trying to make an issue out of the President going on the View. Anyone with any dam sense knows that meeting with leaders have to be work out and plan in advance. These leaders have things they have to do, they are not sitting around waiting to meet the President. I am sure the President talk to these leaders, Hillary Clinton talk to her counter part, and on and on. What you see is desperation from the Republicans.

If the President was meeting with the foreign leaders, the right wing would be screaming about him taking meetings this close to the election and boxing a fictitious future “Pres Romney in” (like the Bush administration tried to do to actual future President Obama with the SOFA agreement in Iraq – forgetting that the timeline was actually President Obama’s idea in the first place). I could care less what they say. Romney is afraid to go on the View. The President and First Lady are not. And the President gets more done in one day than the entire right wing has done in two years! That’s all I need to know.

Same here jackie….I am from California and I could not believe the american people were fooled by Raygun. He was not that good of a communicator. He was hyped up by RW radio and the so-called LW news shows. People who benefited from Raygun was not people who made an hourly salary. My payroll taxes were very high, interest rates were very high, credit card rates were very high, it was hard to buy a home because you did not make good wages. They kept salaries low and things did not get better for the average person until President Clinton.

LOL! President Obama is the Democrat’s OBAMA, and I’m telling Sully right now that it’s Republicans who are hoping and praying that some day they will have their Barack OBAMA too.

CNN just showed a segment that politicians in Brazil are now running their campaigns as “The Barack of Brazil” No mention of Reagan anywhere…

Reagan was a GOP tool and is presidency was run by Goldman Sachs. The neocons had not come on too strong because I think Nancy and George Herbert Bush did not like the neocons and they didn’t like him.

    • September 24, 2012 at 5:04 pm

not sure I am buying the PO = Reagan analogy. PO is a more effective President with better vision and policy positions.

Hello everyone, question for the tweeters out there. Do you know who manages the White House Press Corps account? @whpresscorps. I just can’t believe the partisanship they show in each and every tweet. Is it really the White House press or someone who’s hijacked the name? Case in point:

BTW… I love the replies that @2Freelancer has given to this tweet

The tweets strike me as being from a Romney supporter making fun of the media which they mock as being biased in favor of PBO.

It’s a real twitter account. The guy posted info a while back as to who he was and he’s a journalist.

He’s not part of the WH press corps as the Twitter account suggests. He may be a “journalist,” but he’s a partisan Romney supporter. If you go down his TL, you will clearly see that this guy does NOT like our President, nor does he believe that PBO is being adequately vetted by the MSM.

No one is disputing that he’s a partisan hack. I’m merely pointing out that it is not a parody account. It is a real twitter account.

                  September 24, 2012 at 4:47 pm

It’s a parody in the sense that it’s not really coming from the WH Press Corps as the account name suggests. And so far, no one has provided evidence that this is actually coming from the WH Press Corps. That’s the point I’m making.

            • September 24, 2012 at 4:31 pm

Yes, it’s a real account from the WH Press Corps. The tweets are usually really pathetic.

                September 24, 2012 at 4:36 pm

REALLY? And how do they get away with the tweets being so obviously one-sided and mocking of the President? It seems like a partisan RW account!

                • September 24, 2012 at 4:52 pm

It’s really no different than what goes on every day on TV and radio – tons of bias everywhere. It’s outrageous and it’s plastered in all forms of media. Forget what it was about, but I read a tweet of theirs the other day that just left me flabbergasted. That’s why I find the entire MSM so utterly horrendous and obstructionist.

                    September 24, 2012 at 5:11 pm

The MSM is biased – true. But in this particular case, I still believe it’s a parody account! :) :)

I think you’re right, hopefruit. I noticed that most “official” accounts have the little twitter mark of approval, the blue/white check mark. But this account does not. so could be fake. But whatever the case, it’s a highly partisan account.

Center for a New American Security
Robert Kaplan, the chief geopolitical analyst at Stratfor, discussed the role that geography has played in shaping world events and talked about the role it will play in the future. He was interviewed by David Ignatius and responded to questions from members of the audience at this book launch event held by the Center for a New American Security in the Willard InterContinental Hotel’s Grand Ballroom.

this is amazing…….He talks alot about Iran and nukes….he says they will NEVER develop one that is worth much because the threat of it gives them much more power in the region than having one….because all the other nuclear countries would be pointing theirs directly to Iran…….

I cannot stand that Jonathon Capeheart ….he just said the Romney is a great debater ….Based on what ? He barely answered questions in those debate and they were usually awkward answers…..

Then Ari Melber said that PBO isn’t a very good debater and really did not stand out during the 2008 debates … The reason …according to Melber : He did not make any mistakes so the media did not get the gotcha moment (paraphrasing )

These people are tripping on drugs…

    • 159 Nena20409
      September 24, 2012 at 5:08 pm

Why? They are boosting Romney up and undermining pres Obama. In 2008….then sen Obama didn’t stand out for he found the debates…..NOT real debates. But when it was just him and sen Clinton……that was a different pres Obama. All I know is if the pres Obama of 2010…..in Jan at a GOP retreat in VA shows up and ready to KNOW Mittens out…….May the Gracious Lord have Mercy……on the lying bishop. Pres Obama is still a trained lawyer. Yes….Romney is also an attorney, but he Never was in a court Room. Pres Obama was and he taught Law.

    • September 24, 2012 at 5:12 pm

“Jonathon Capeheart ….he just said the Romney is a great debater and Ari Melber said that PBO isn’t a very good debater and really did not stand out during the 2008 debates ”

I think that is a good strategy Linda. The GOP and msm are desperately trying to set standards extremely low for Willard (i.e. if he remembers his name it is a good night for Mitt) so it is a good thing that Capehart is raising the bar and expectations. Melber is also helping in that every one assumes PO will automatically do well so he is reducing expectations for PO. Creating a level playing field in the minds of voters.

If expectations are downgraded for PBO and raised for Romney in the debates that suits me fine. Debate wins seem more about who is beating expectations these days.

I’m hoping that was intentional by Capehart——the purpose being to lower debate expectations for President Obama and raise them for Willard Mitt—–as he praised Romney’s 60 Minutes interview, said he sounded very reasonable and credible—–FREEDOM!—–said he’s likely to shine at the debates—and said everyone agrees that Obama is a very poor debater. I thought I’d fallen and bumped my head and couldn’t remember it because I had fallen and bumped my head.
And if that was not what he was he doing, when I run for president, I will pay Jonathan Capehart to never appear on my behalf.

I agree with Bashir about Paul Ryan’s tax return——-forgetting to note that $61,000 in income—–cheating on his tax return. And agree that this news was released on the same day Romney released his return—– on purpose, so the attempt at tax cheating would be overshadowed by all the attention on Romney’s return. Paul Ryan has proven to be the opposite of the person he has tried to portray——this straight shooter and numbers guy etc. He lies and is unethical and has over-inflated much of his resume’. He has issues, for sure, should seek help, not the vice-presidency.

Hey Os!!! Well, this last month and a half have been the absolute worst. I had to prepare my document for my competency exam, turn it in then sit for my orals. Ugh! So I sat for my orals today and I passed. Just got out, though I feel less competent now than I did when I went in. Worst hours of my life but I really appreciated my committee, they are wonderful professors and I’m seriously grateful they passed me, but I hope not to see them for a very long time. I bought a bottle of Moscato specifically for tonight, pass or fail. it’s chilling in the freezer, waiting to wash down my gullet. ;)

Ahem, ahem, ahem….psst, psst…..yoo hoo….mau I have your attention please. For those who watche Chris Matthews, and are want to be upset by punditry musings, take note. He has forewarned that his ‘Let Me Finish’ segment will be on how Mitt can still win. He prefaced by saying of course it involved him winning the debates.

I post this as a public service announcement in an attempt to minimize angst among the masses who may become unhinged at such a prospect.

Chris Matthews now chatting with Joy Ann Reid and Dee Dee Myers. I think Joy Ann Reid is one of the best political analysts on cable. I am always glad to see her on a panel. She just makes sense.

    • September 24, 2012 at 5:27 pm

lolol. I am for anyone boosting Mitt this week because the first debate is Next Week. Whoo Hooooo!!!!! I want Willard elevated to the moon if they can get him there. I want folks supporting this man to think he still has a snowball’s chance in hell of being elected and then, during the debates,

Then, I want to watch every second of Mitt being cut off at the knees. I hope PO will take his time by taking small chunks out of him in debates 1 and 2 and then in the last debate, I want to watch the final blow when PO crushes him. I will record it so I can enjoy the visual over and over and over again.

lolol I am soooo ready for the debates.

nospin: speaking of “crushing an opponent” I will never get tired of this video. It’s like watching that Mike Tyson scene in “Hangover” where he does the knockout while singing a Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”. And unlike Romney, Obama has so comfortably remained true to his description of himself.

        • September 24, 2012 at 6:03 pm

          Exactly.

I tell you forus50. Thank you for reposting. I love this video because to me it reflects PO in his purest most honest form. He tells you who he is. So all the outright lying, disrespect and below the belt crap that Willard and his cohorts threw at PO or condoned via silence. . . I can hardly wait for this coward to get on the stage next to the President and says what he has to say to his face.

I don’t want anyone feeling sorry for Willard or thinking oohhh he is an underdog. Poor Mitt the Twit. No. I want them to see billy bad*ss, a grown man representing the Republican Party who is the chosen one to “take it to” this President. Then I will savor every second down to his final seconds before my President crushes him.

          I can hardly wait.
