David Gregory is an asshole. He lied on MTP that Pres. Obama fundraised in Las Vegas the day after the attacks in Libya that killed four Americans. This NEVER happened. Twitter is on fire calling him and Meet The Press out. Journalist Jon Ralston is pissed off too and calling David Gregory out for perpetuating that GOP lie.

I’ve never heard POTUS say that. Meet the Press should fire David Gregory for his lies. It is clear he is already try to help Mitt Romney. That’s the reason POTUS won’t appear on his show.

I wonder if these ‘newstainers’ have people who read their tweets or if they read them themselves. I also wonder if they really have paid staff who are supposed to fact check their material, since they obviously do not follow closely enough themselves to have the true information.

Heard the Al-qaeda claim and wished Plouff would bounce on him. I don’t expect much from these “news” guys but expect a better fight from our side. Wish Plouff embarrased him and asked him which tabloid magazine he was getting his information from. I hate it when we leave money on the table, as it were.

Funny enough, Left-I, I’m cool with our side not embarrassing anyone deliberately right now. I’m all for us being ‘classy’ and even ‘tipping’ them into complacency. ;) ;) In fact, I don’t mind surrogates not knocking these ill-informed shills out of the park. Sarcasm might just come across as cocky to some, and every vote will count. IMO a knockout punch might create sympathy for the wrong side. I’m sure there are some voters like me who are a bit squeamish and tend to feel *some* sympathy for the underdog when s/he is crushed mercilessly (one of the reasons I love PBO’s style – he allows his opponent a chance to maintain his dignity IF HE CHOOSES). Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean surrogates should crawl into themselves, but I don’t want them making any waves about now. The way I see it right now is that voters are listening to POTUS, VPOTUS and FLOTUS and these three are making a terrific impact. Have you listened to VPJoe lately? He has just been waxing suh-weet on the trail, with just the right touch! I’m not wanting surrogates to do anything major that will detract from the real issues. Sometimes you punch back right away, and sometimes you lull your opponent into a sense of calm before landing an uppercut. (Huh? I hate boxing, so I don’t know where that came from!)

Granted VC. He didn’t really need to embarrass him so much as to push back strongly on both points (alqeada & fundraising). The facts are on his side. He could’ve just said, “ok, lets look at that, David. I know where the president goes on the campaign trail and this is where he was on that date. So I’m puzzled about this charge you just made.” Simple and strong push back. Let him fumble around for an answer. Complaining about these empty suits in the media is draining and someone as savvy as Plouff shouldn’t have let him get away with the Fox talking points.

    David Gregory is pathetic.

This morning on Meet The Press, David Gregory twice asserted that, in May, President Obama declared that “al Qaeda has been defeated.” Gregory used that claim to advance a theory that Obama was simply not concerned enough about al Qaeda in advance of the attack on the American embassy in Libya. Here’s the transcript:

GREGORY: The President has said as recently as May of this year that al Qaeda has not had a chance to rebuild, that al Qaeda has been defeated. There is an election on, as we’ve been talking about, and the President’s challenger said plain and simple, the President failed to level with the American people and call this a terrorist attack, because you had to be concerned about another terrorist attack from al Qaeda in the Middle East after the President said that al Qaeda had been defeated.

That is not, however, what Obama said in May. Gregory was apparently referring to an address that Obama delivered from Afghanistan in May on the one year anniversary of Osama Bin Laden’s death.

    Here is what Obama said:
And one year ago, from a base here in Afghanistan, our troops launched the operation that killed Osama bin Laden. The goal that I set — to defeat al Qaeda and deny it a chance to rebuild — is now within our reach.
Still, there will be difficult days ahead. The enormous sacrifices of our men and women are not over.
So, the truth is that Obama did not say al Qaeda had already been defeated and specifically acknowledged that there were “difficult days” and “enormous sacrifices” yet to come.

Could it be the news media is trying to keep to the pledge of not involving either candidates wives or children? Getting too anxious to involve them could backfire in people’s opinions.

        • September 30, 2012 at 1:43 pm

It’s not about her, it’s about her assessment of her spouse. The corporate #NEWSTAINERS have no excuse given how fundamental the issue is that she, on her own accord and in a recorded interview, raised. So, OG, we must grant no excuse to anyone hiding her assessment from the fullest consideration by the American people.

      • September 30, 2012 at 1:12 pm

We all know by now that Mitt is an obssessive liar, but one of the reason he lies so slickly is because he knows that the is insulated by the corporate MSM, who refuse to challenge him.But of late, he has had to deal with ‘the people media’ challenging both him and the inept corrupt msm.

PBO once again doing right by the people…http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/09/30/uk-bp-spill-paper-idUKBRE88T08Y20120930

Talks between BP and the U.S. government over a settlement for the 2010 oil spill have stalled because the U.S. is insisting that the British oil giant pay at least $18 billion (11.1 billion pounds), British newspaper the Sunday Times reported.

A settlement deal may not happen until early next year, the newspaper quoted sources close to the company as saying.

A settlement between $18 billion to $21 billion is near the level which BP would be required to pay should it be found grossly negligent under the Clean Water Act, said the paper.

Mitt would probably let this slide…..

While out for my usual hike along the Hudson River in NYC wearing My Obama cap, I realize a group of very young people were calling to me and waving me over. Turns out they were filming a web ad for our team and asked if I’d participate. I did and my part was: ” Vote For Obama if you want Medicare to continue…Vote for Obama if you do not know what a voucher is…Vote for Obama if”—well you get the idea. Looking at the Republicans and Democratic Convention, which one would Hitler fit right in with, the one which look at an all white party. Hitler didn’t like people of color. So it’s the Republican Party who is more like Hitler. Trying to take women’s rights away to make their own decisions as to do with their own body. Trying to take certain people rights away to vote.

Hello Chips and TOD family – thank you for posting the fundraising pages. It is getting down to the wire, and I am struggling to come up with another donation. I keep telling myself that contributing to the Democratic cause is more important now than any other expenditure and that it will all end only too soon. I feel confident about the election, but I also know that complacency is our biggest enemy.

Today I am fighting a nasty cold and taking lots of vitamins to make sure that I will be ready for our debate watch party and the voter registration drive we have planned for the following day and, of course, our next canvass in New Hampshire on Saturday.

I had a phone call this morning from my cousin in Germany. She expressed surprise at all the things I was telling her and couldn’t believe that anyone would even consider voting for Mr. Romney – that man, she said, who expressed contempt for the same people he expects to vote for him. She also told me how extremely popular our President is in Europe and how young children know more about President Obama than the leaders of their own countries. I know that it’s true. My sister’s grandson is an example. All in my sister’s family are into swimming and water rescue. So it was a complete surprise when 8 year old Jannik wanted to play basketball “like President Obama”. He turned out to be really good at it and is now playing in regional competitions with kids almost twice his age. When he was asked why he likes President Obama, he said that President Obama is teaching people how to get along with everyone. Not a bad answer from an eight-year old. And a nice respite from the constant drumbeat of derision and vitriol from the right-wingers at home.

I hope you all have a restful Sunday and I hope and pray that together we will double our efforts to re-elect our wonderful President.

Thank you for the update, Hgerhard. I particularly liked this part.. ‘When he [8yr old] was asked why he likes President Obama, he said that President Obama is teaching people how to get along with everyone.’ It reminded me of this…

I find it interesting that children all over the world are getting the President’s message while so many GOP and their leaders are totally missing it. Fortunately, those who get it will soon outnumber those who don’t.

      • September 30, 2012 at 5:58 pm

Thanks for the video, vcprezofan2 – I had not seen that before. You’re right, the children are getting it and so many so-called leaders are not. But it bodes well for a future when these children make the decisions. And it also gives me confidence that there are a lot of parents who are raising their children to reject messages of hatred and distrust.

VC – I love this video! Where did you dig this one up? It says everything that he’s been saying consistently for years now, and which the GOP have been lying about. What a stark contrast to Romney’s 47% tape. This is President Obama – as he’s always been. Smart, thoughtful, considerate of the middle class, respecting the need for stable, thriving business, and knowing there’s a need to invest in the country and its workforce. And he told them back then, he’s all about putting that tax bracket back to the days of Clinton – their lies about uncertainty fall flat, when he drew his plan for them long before he ever became President.

It always surprises me that only 1% of the country actually earns more than $250,000 a year! In the “richest country in the world”? Wow.

Top Democrats are pushing tax writers in both the House and Senate to close the tax loopholes that likely allowed Mitt Romney to use a savings vehicle for middle class workers to build a nearly $100 million retirement fortune.

Romney’s financial disclosures have famously revealed that his tax-deferred individual retirement account holds upwards of $100 million, an uncomfortable demonstration of enormous wealth, but moreover a source of key ethical questions.

They shouted fraud and shut down ACORN for less…..

GREAT post by smarypants (as always, but still). With an MO like this, a few Romney zingers and moderator gotcha questions aren’t going to bother him.

The only open issue for me regarding the debate is if we see #Mitt become unhinged. Based on his wife’s recent comments, I’d give it a likely, if not highly likely. #PBO has already demonstrated he knows how to push the guy’s button quite effectively.

And, remember, #Mitt is a bully, through and through, thus he is exceptionally weak when he has to stand alone. In fact, every instance in his life where ‘standing alone’ and facing a truly difficult situation – e.g., Nam, running for a 2nd term as Gov of MA, the guy cut and ran as fast as possible.

I agree. I don’t think she really meant he was unhinged, probably meant that the presidency is a drain on anyone’s mental reserves. But as a rich CEO he is unused to people contradicting him. I think he had a hard time in the primary debates not yelling “Off with their heads”. He either does that odd little laugh, or lashes out. Either of those responses is not going to sit well with the listeners, and as he gets more frustrated I can see him losing his temper completely.

Is the debate going to make everyone FORGET about the 47% comments of Mitt Romney? That video proved to me exactly what I had been thinking all along and that is Mitt Romney didn’t give a dam about the poor and middle class. No debate will make me forget the disdain Mitt had for people like myself, as he spoke before those millionaires and billionaires.

Presidential debates are in a class by themselves and no prior experience prepares someone for them. Of course, it’s very important to know the subject matter cold because made up baloney becomes obvious very quickly. But the number one thing that people look for in a presidential debate is someone who is real, likeable and makes them feel that they would be in good hands if that person were elected. Part of being real is saying things that are of a piece with the way you have presented yourself. People have seen a lot of Willard Romney and they don’t like what they’ve seen so he can’t suddenly turn into an empathetic, compassionate person because that would be very dissonant with the way he’s presented himself for the umpteen million months he’s been running. People will sense a phony and neither the specifics of what he says nor all the zingers in the world will change people’s discomfort with him. PBO is eminently comfortable in his own skin and his been utterly consistent in everything he’s said since the day he entered the public stage. He is authentic to the bone. He has a killer instinct second to none, but he will deliver his blows so subtly that the victim won’t even know what hit him. And most important of all, PBO isn’t running for a second term to flatter his ego like Romney, he’s running to help all the meeting he’s come to know and care about as president. Makes a difference.

    From Columbus Dispatch: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/09/30/1-dispatch-poll-shows-obama-in-lead.html

The president is ahead among independent voters by 3 points and is attracting slightly more GOP support than Romney is getting from Democrats.

That shows up in voters such as poll participant Wayne Butterfass, 70, a retired store owner from Cincinnati who said he has voted Republican for most of his life.

    But not this year.

“Obama was handed an economy on the skids, after eight years of Bush,” Butterfass said in an email. “All he ever did was think about war. I’m afraid Romney will do the same, especially the trickle-down theory.

“I don’t know why any woman or gay would ever vote for Romney. All you have to do is look at the Republican platform. I’ve never seen such HATE this year in the Republican Party, national or state.”

Five percent of Ohio voters said they remain undecided, while the other five candidates on the ballot (who were not included in the first Dispatch Poll) are dividing 3percent.

Obama is strongly benefitting from Democrats who have come home since the political conventions and the revelation of Romney’s secretly recorded remarks dismissing 47 percent of Americans.
