Tally , I had posted this on the last thread before realising that Ms Quick Chips had another thread up so I am posting again here to make sure you are aware of my heartfelt appreciation for your piece.

“Tally, I hope you are out there because I want to say that I read your piece on the debate and it was brilliant. Brilliant because it was true and expressed magnificently because you have a keen and instinctual eye and ear. You expressed so well what I saw and heard and wrote with a clarity , reason and passion that was important. The point you made about listening not watching was particularly seminal.

I hope all TODers will forward to all you know because it is a really important critique.”

Sincere thanks for taking the time to do this.

Clear concise easy to understand video for those who still don’t get it. Hard to imagine how that is really possible but judging by the last few days there are still those who believe Mitt Romney.

And I believe the original of that painting was one of Rockwell’s Four Freedoms series, from FDR’s famous speech. Romney keeps dropping the word “Freedom.” He knows nothing about what our freedoms stand for … methinks we need to add a Fifth Freedom: Freedom from the Romneys.

Here’s what I’ve noticed. alot Obama supporters on blogs and the intertubes who I consider poli-addicts, myself includd, are still talking about Obama’s debate performance, but the general man on the street discussion is about the fact that Romney wants to FIRE BIG BIRD. that’s what being discussed around the water cooler, add to that the job numbers and also the record haul that the Dems had in September ($181 million!!! $30 mill more than the $150mill record last time) and Obama debate performance will prob be a wash.

    • October 6, 2012 at 12:37 pm

Amen. Regular people have moved on. They have their take-away and are more interested in College Football at the moment.

        October 6, 2012 at 12:51 pm

The people moved on since Thursday. Look at the 10’s of thousands of enthusiastic voters who showed up for PBO’s rallies in Ohio, CO and VA AFTER the debates.

It’s the MSM pundiots who want to keep this on people’s minds. Suddenly goal posts are being moved, they’ve decided that the economy no longer matters, RW polls are being manipulated to push that narrative, etc. Thankfully, people are ignoring the media to this country’s benefit.

    • 27 debz
      October 6, 2012 at 1:16 pm

Absolutely right! Everyone has moved on. Other than talking heads and “liberals” freaking out on the internet, most people tuned in to see a debate (an exchange of ideas), not theater. Then, they move on. Big Bird is the only thing anyone remembers from the debate.

        October 6, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I had given extra credit to watch the debates, so the day after the only comment I made was that Big Bird would be fired, now my students are talking about Big Bird instead of Mitt Romney.

G’m TOD. Tally thank you for your well written piece. I share a lot of the thoughts you expressed and am equally
dismayed by the total lack of honesty and critical thinking shown by the liar Romney as well as the MSM.

That whole Gish Gallop theory is new to me so I am looking and reading about it in amazement.

O/T…I am FIRED-UP about the $180million raised by our team and am proud to be one of the contributors.

        Something I thought of is

If Romney wants to do a 20% tax cut across the board and he pays below 15% now does that mean the government would owe him over 5% back?

I am aware that his taxes are not paid on income but money from investments so it probably does not mean this but the simplicity of the idea does paint a picture of how the rich do well. Maybe there is a simple connection that is true and could give the same idea. Another idea is to make an argument this is a flat tax and how unfair a flat tax is.

I’m not a fan of MHPerry, but this deserves mention:

“You suspect something is amiss when, even after the President’s meager performance in Wednesday’s debate, he still enjoys a 46% to 44% lead over challenger Mitt Romney. You see, George, I don’t think it’s all that much of a paradox. It could be that Democrats have effectively linked Romney with candidates, elected officias, and policies that represent the extreme anti-reproductive rights initiatives in the republican party. That big old gender gap could be because of “Transvaginal McDonald,” “Legitimate Rape Akin,” and “No Pills Santorum.” Or, George, perhaps it’s that Mr. Romney chose a running mate that advocates transforming Medicare into a voucher system. That just might have caused reliably conservative seniors to reconsider their willingness to support the President. And George, it could be that, until Wednesday night, Mitt Romney had run a breathtakingly uninspiring campaign, pockmarked with gaffes and inconsistencies and evasion. But, no, George, you took none of this into account. Instead, you wrote that the President’s lead is solid because — I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this — because the President is black.

You say the nation — which is generally reluctant to declare a president a failure, thereby admitting that it made a mistake in choosing him — seems reluctant to give up on the first African-American president. Right! Because we all know that black men hold an unfair advantage in the labor market. You can see the evidence of it all around you. After decades of racial goodwill, shown to black workers as a result of the unfairly imposed guilt trip by radical race card-playing media types like me, black workers now have an unemployment rate of 13.4%. Right. Racial guilt, that’s it.

Well, here’s the deal, George. I hereby give you permission to set down the white man’s burden. If you don’t want to vote for the president, don’t! Plenty of other voters seem to have found actual reasons to support him.”

      Thank you, amk!

And why has George Will been on This Week for so many years? His White CONservative Token privilege? Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts were ousted from regular guests/hosts. But GWill was left why? Many times he gets his facts wrong and his FACE, dare I say, is NOT photogenic.

BTW, I did see both Donaldson and Roberts, Carvillie, Ann Richard’s daughter, Howard Kurtz, mayor of Philadelphia, the Dem guy on PBS on Fridays with Brooks, so many a month ago at the Dem Convention in Charlotte NC.

      • 50 hopefruit2
        October 6, 2012 at 12:53 pm

This was an excellent counter to George Will, and a message to much of MSM who love to use the same type of thinking when saying that PBO is lucky, or it’s the Big Dog/Big Bird or whoever else that’s winning the election, or that Romney is such a terrible candidate that he’s giving the election to PBO, etc…

George Will is a degenerate racist asshole and has been for decades. I remember reading an article of his years ago where he was basically saying that the American educational system is failing on the college level due to intergration. I never forgot that article (I think it was in Time or Newsweek), when someone shows you who they are believe him.

I’m as reclusive as the next Internet commenter, but it really behooves us to get out of our own bubble too.

yes, 67 mill watched the debate, but I contend with nothing but gut feeling that the majority of those who viewed were already solidified in who they were gonna vote for or were already leaning towards one over the other anyway and no one really changed their vote, even with Obamas performance. I’m a true believer that there is no such thing as a true undecided voter. They know who they are voting for, but the question for them is whether to vote at all. as for independents I tend to think of those people as either Dem or Rep, who primarily vote the majority of the time for one party, but once in a cycle votes outside party line. I just think u can’t please those people

Also, not everyone can afford cable and the Disney channel. nowadays without cable if u want quality family programming for your young kids to look at PBS is the way to go, and Big Bird, Sesame Street is a big part of that. Notice too Romney said Big Bird and not Elmo, cause I bet they researched that line and thought hey don’t hate on Elmo, so they went with Big Bird, but yes Elmo is the big thing, but by “attacking” Big Bird, Romney taped into 40 years worth of formative years of a big part of the voting population, even Repub. I,m 35, soon to be 36, and damn if I don’t STILL remember songs I learned from Sesame Street.my cousin is 25 and literally learned his alphabet from school yes, but a large part is from the Sesame Street ABC cassette tape his mother bought him long before Elmo.
people really shouldn’t underestimate the power of Sesame Street.

how awesome is it that the brilliance of jim henson, over 20 years after his death, is helping ensure another term for world-changing president obama? make sure you let everyone you know that the modern day republicans would take things such as sesame street away from the world’s children, and if they were around at the beginning of sesame street, they would’ve never allowed it to be created in the first place, and deprived generations of things such as this:

the republican “free market” brings us Honey Boo Boo and Paris Hilton instead. what a different world it would be without sesame street.

I wanted to share with you a conversation I just had with the folks at Rosa Linda’s Cafe. When I placed the order, I talked with the owner who did not have the best English. He was concerned about taking my cc info and said his son would call me back. I also had made arrangements with the folks at the OFA office to pick up the order at 11:00 MDT. I became concerned as the time for pickup approached as they still did not have my cc info. I started calling and after like 10 tries got through, just in time! The OFA folks were there to pick it up and I had a nice conversation with the son. He said the support they have received is overwhelming. They are busier than ever both with folks from their community and others calling in orders. He began to cry as he described people like us placing orders and folks from as far as away as Ireland and Switzerland phoning in donations. The folks at the CO OFA office were also deeply appreciative. It’s nice to know we can have an impact, even if only in a small way. For anyone else who wants to donate to the CO OFA folks in the coming days, I am reposting the info again.

I was making calls to Virginia residents and I just reached a woman who is stationed at Ft. Hood. She has two teenage children who are of voting age. The entire family will be voting for PBO. She explained to me that she still has a home in Norfolk, Va which is her legal residence which is why they can vote by absentee ballot in Virginia. Neither of her kids were of voting age 4 years ago and are ecstatic to vote for the first time this year. ;)

I am not sure how this works for anyone else. I don’t generally open two pages of TOD at a time. However, whenever I make a comment, I would have to go back out in order for me to go from page to page. Is that normal? I had asked this question many weeks ago, but got No feedback.
