I am reposting this from the end of the last thread….
The election was waaaaay to boring for all these professional media hacks, who believe that they are performing a civic duty, but are actually manipulating, fabricating, and distorting facts and truths (sort of like our least favorite presidential candidate). Joseph Goebbels and George Orwell would have been so proud of our current 4th Estate! However, I have no doubt that this election will result in an incumbent’s reaffirmation by the nation.
Most of you I am sure believed that this was bound to happen. I think everyone here has a tremendous responsibility to fight the lies with passion and conviction. Last Wednesday was NOT the brightest moment for this blog and others “liberal” media outlets. I respect everyone’s opinion, and there will always be room for differences. And I am forever grateful to Chipsticks for creating such a powerful forum. But Wednesday was really an embarrassment, not for our President, but for many in our progressive ranks.
I hope that we all reflect on our purpose and understand the delicate nature of this election. Never has a candidate been up against tremendous forces – whether because of the President’s ethnicity or politics does not matter at this point. All positive energies must work collectively together towards one common goal – to defeat the shape-shifters, their media, and their financers.
I look forward to the next four weeks with great confidence, focus, and determination to re-elect our President. Thanks to all!
The national conversation – and what we need to push – is about LOWER UNEMPLOYMENT, LIES, AND BIG BIRD. Don’t underestimate the power of Sesame Street!
Yep. It ‘s called making sure the media can keep itself relevant. No one can buy my vote. I’m waiting for October 20th so I can cast my EARLY VOTE for PBO and every DEM down ticket. By the way, be very very careful about voting for the nonpartisan candidates, e.g. JUDGES. Make sure you their record before you vote.
Idon, your message is the type that should be written everyday for the next month, period… I have personally given $5,000 to President’s Obama’s re-election, so I am in it to win it. This is so serious for me its scary.. I don’t want to hear of women dying in back alleys, or future voter suppression, or other people’s children going to war because of RWNJobs.
‘I look forward to the next four weeks with great confidence, focus, and determination to re-elect our President’ Yes indeed. You hit the nail on the head!
Someone posted here earlier that for Thursday’s debate, and the two immediately following, we just prepare ourselves to be louder than the media in immediately refuting the lies we are bound to see. As the title on this post says – keep our eyes on the prize. We’re just too close to the election to be bothering with distractions. I agree with you.
I truly believe some "journalists" have a very unhealthy obsession with President #Obama. They make creepy remarks to get attention from him— jenny (@Me4obama) October 08, 2012

After Dissing Spain, AP Says Romney Might Need Lesson in Diplomacy 101
———————————
The Denver fallout continues for Mitt Romney. Sunday, the AP said that Mitt Romney might need a crash course in diplomacy 101 if he gets elected.
During the first presidential debate, Romney attempted to conflate Spain with Obama in order to smear the President with failure no matter how unrelated. The irony of this is that not only did he irritate Spain (a Romney specialty, it seems), but also he got it wrong.
In fact, Spain’s problems come precisely from the kind of “leadership” we would expect under Romney; the kind of leadership America had under Bush that led to the great recession.
Spain is none-too-pleased. Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria called out Romney’s “ignorance” of reality (are we cringing yet?), “What I see is ignorance of what is reality, but especially of the potential of the Spanish economy.”
Additional Spanish leaders piled on, managing to demonstrate more diplomacy than Mitt Romney has shown in this entire campaign:
I remember thinking that when he said it. I’m like, Wait, their problems were caused by all their austerity measures! It is common wisdom that the stimulus saved us from the same fate.
Last I remember they were finally talking stimulus to pull themselves out. Don’t know if they did, but it was the austerity on top of their other financial problems that produced the most problems.
I haven’t read the link, but I remember it well. That was why Geithner went there many times. He was peddling stimulus -a concerted effort among our nations- to combat the global meltdown. They didn’t buy it, opting for austerity and he eventually walked away. That was when things really began to go south.
Right on the heels of this PBO pivoted to South America where they are singing the praises of government stimulus of the private sectors and to the south pacific. He was wasting no time. He quickly finalized the trade deals in those areas and sought military cooperation with the regional powers.
So that accusation was only one of many Robme made that night that has absolutely NO basis in fact.
I am also reposting this from the end of the previous blog. I hope I don’t offend anyone but I, personally, feel that it may be helpful not to mention more uplifting if we all just STOP talking about the debate. It doesn’t help if we regurgitate negative comments/analysis either by news media or numbers analysts like Nate Silver. There is one month to go – everything is on the line NOW. Let’s try and change the narrative by focusing on other, more productive things. And my advice is not to obsess about the coming debates – what will be will be. I hope and pray that VP Biden and Pres do well – noting is guaranteed and we should all just calm down particularly if live blogging/tweeting during the upcoming events. Our focus should be on CALMLY pointing out Romney BS and applauding/supporting the most effective points made by VPB and PBO. Don’t retweet/draw attention to dumb comments made by Maher and Ice T about weed. It just keeps the debate ‘flop’ narrative going. The New Yorker has a brutal cover coming up so please be aware and try to ignore it. We are not 6 months out – it’s a month and time to fight like mad, organise and get out th evote – anything else is a waste of time. Sorry if this comes across as a rant – just eager for the subject to change. Drdaddy1970′s post above is excellent and lays out the case much more eloquently than I have here.
Team Obama Tells Foreign Policy Bumbler Romney to Bring It On
By: Sarah Jones
————————————–
Obama for America spokeswoman Lis Smith issued the following statement today in advance of Mitt Romney’s foreign policy speech, “If Mitt Romney wants to have a debate about foreign policy, we have a message for him: bring it on. President Obama has decimated al-Qaeda’s leadership, responsibly ended the war in Iraq, is bringing our troops home from Afghanistan, and is standing up to China’s cheating.” Ms. Smith continued, “To date, all Mitt Romney has offered is bluster and platitudes. He’s erratically shifted positions on every major foreign policy issue, including intervening in Libya, which he was against before he was for.”
If only Romney would start focusing his attacks on the real Obama instead of the fictional Right wing version of Obama, he would know that last Wednesday’s debate was the most vulnerable Obama would be. When it comes to foreign policy, President Obama has been amazingly successful and has broad support and trust from the American people.
#MittRomney is striving for the record of most damage to US foreign relations – Russia, Britain, Spain & the Palestinians – of any candidate— Bobfr47 (@Our4thEstate_47) October 07, 2012
Yes but as we learned it’s not necessarily enough to bring the truth to this fight. We must prepare to hit back on the lies.
How about we begin to gather links to anything we find relating to things GOP/Romney have said and done. We can list them according to category by country but also by policy. Be our own rapid defense and preemptive strike force.
Why do I always feel like we are such toddlers in the grand scheme of evolution. Will our fuel powered rocket launchers seem like the old crank phones before long? I do hope. We are due another jump in our human capabilities. If we can only get the scaredy cats (read that GOP) out of our way.
We are poised. We have so much knowledge being hamstrung at every turn.
The scale of #Mitt's debate lies bit.ly/R55t5f require us to demand not only his tax returns but full psychiatric evaluation of him.— Bobfr47 (@Our4thEstate_47) October 08, 2012
