It’s the demographic represented in that photo, above, that has truly freaked these folk and it could not have been made any clearer than the extraordinary bias of today’s Pew Poll and the way #NEWSTAINERS, Beltway con artists are running with it ….

      • October 8, 2012 at 8:48 pm

Dick Morris must have bought PEW?

      • October 8, 2012 at 8:53 pm

This factoid is also very relevant: 38% of Pew respondents has income over $75K.

        • 9 hopefruit2
          October 8, 2012 at 9:07 pm

Another relevant factoid: 67% of Pew respondents are age 50 or older. (In 2008, this age demographic was 43% of total voters).

          A third relevant factoid:

37% come from the south alone, more than doubled that of the northeast (18%), and more than the west (20%) and midwest (24%). In 2008, voters from the West and Midwest were statistically more likely to vote than those from the South. Those from the North East were equally likely.

      • October 8, 2012 at 8:55 pm

Seems like President Obama lost a significant percentage of White voters. Seems that Black and Hispanic voters are sticking with him. Surprised that women moved to Romney.

        • October 8, 2012 at 9:00 pm

When 40% of your sample is from the South, yes, Romney will be ahead in the poll.

        • 12 utaustinliberal
          October 8, 2012 at 9:06 pm

The Pew poll is complete and utter CRAP. Their white voters are mostly from the South (code – bloody racists), they basically didn’t sample Hispanic and Black voters, they sampled more people making over $75K. They oversampled republicans. Give me a freaking break.

And they dare say that Pres. Obama is losing women, young voters, African-Americans and Hispanics? I repeat; Give me a break.

Barack Obama going from an 18 point lead with woman to a TIE ? In one month ?

It doesn’t make sense. Especially since there have been numerous testimonies that women were put off by Romney’s behavior at the debate.

We’ll have to wait for more polls and more data.

Actually the main stream media is claiming PBO went from an 18 point lead to a tie in a week. They have to use right wing polls because this obviously is not true. They want us to stay home so mittnocchio can win since karlaroves and the kkkochbros voter suppression were struck down by the courts.

        • October 8, 2012 at 9:07 pm

PBO hasn’t lost anything … that poll is not merely flawed, it is a violation of reality, a near perfect emulation of the alternate universe Mitt inhabits.

            October 8, 2012 at 9:59 pm

The poll should tell us why women are moving toward Romney. Which I am not buying. Next the poll will say Big Bird has moved to Romney.

        • 19 EricFive
          October 8, 2012 at 9:29 pm

Hispanics were not counted in this Pew poll. They were not counted. If the race were truly moving in Mitt’s direction, these pollsters would not have to skew their polls to such an extent to get a result with Mitt leading. First there were the GOP leaning polls released after the debate that had Mitt winning the black vote. Now we have this Pew joke of a poll. Are they skewing polls to favor the Mitt in response to the GOP calling polls showing PBO leading fixed? Are they skewing polls to support the MSM meme of Mitt’s big comeback? This stuff is shameful.

Ok, ok, hold on: 417 from the SOUTH?! Really? Since when did people move en masse to the South? Oh my freaking god. This really is crap. Yeah, if your poll has 40% of its sample from the South, then yes, Mitt will come out ahead.

      • 35 utaustinliberal
        October 8, 2012 at 9:09 pm

My goodness. Pew should be ashamed of this poll. The more I delve into it, the more disgusted I am. They should be embarrassed. It is laughably pathetic.

    • October 8, 2012 at 9:02 pm

HOW in the world did this happen?

      • October 8, 2012 at 9:05 pm

That alone should shoot the poll out of the water. The last tie I checked, the South didn’t have 42% of the US population.

        October 8, 2012 at 9:08 pm

because it’s a scam. the entire major media is owned by a few billionaires and those who rely on their business, such as the polling companies. steve forbes owns real clear politics, as an example. it’s all a giant scam, and knowing this sure helps make sense of all the zaniness, doesn’t it?

    • October 9, 2012 at 12:41 am

Koch money is truly greasing many many palms. The coordinated freakout over “skewed polls” in the days leading up to the debates was a cynical ploy to play the refs because they knew exactly what they had planned for the debate and its aftermath. The corporatocracy has truly set its sights on us the American people and they are gonna bulldoze their way to power by any means necessary.

Pres. Obama sure knows exactly what is going on and I won’t be surprised if he wonders whether this nonsense is worth it at all . I’m sure he’s wondering if American people are capable of sorting out the ton of LIES the GOP is shoveling their way.

      Cat this country survive?

    • October 9, 2012 at 12:43 am

      yep,

This is Orwellian. The billionaire monsters chose one of the most trusted pollsters to unleash their disinformation because they know we Libs trust it and will be loathe to dispute it’s results.

      Sad really sad.

So, let me get this right. Romney spewed out some foreign policy babble today at VMI? (Ho hum – too bored to verify the venue.) Cadets were forced to be there. One of his planned rallies was at a coal mine? Coal miners were forced to be there. Interviews or rallies before African-American and Latino groups? He flew in black (BYOB) and Hispanic (BYOH) “supporters.” Anybody see a pattern here? He’s the lord and master of Bullying 101.

    Romney reworks ‘8 percent’ speech
    By JAMES HOHMANN | 10/8/12 6:49 PM

Mitt Romney recalibrated his stump speech Monday to deal with the unemployment rate falling below 8 percent. “We’ve seen the slowest recovery from a recession in history,” the GOP nominee told a soaked crowd of 500 at a park outside the shipyard.

    • 47 pkayden
      October 8, 2012 at 8:57 pm

Only 500 in the crowd? He’s so popular.

    • October 8, 2012 at 9:52 pm

You mean the 50milliongazillion people that follow him around. But they tell me PBO with 36,000 in the rain has an enthusiasm gap.

    • 49 vcprezofan2
      October 8, 2012 at 10:23 pm

This is progress for Romney. Usually, he carries on with no modification. This likely means he’s finally awake to what is happening around him. Yeah, right.

At two different venues, today and whenever (ho hum), Romney is seen with a wisp of greasy hair on his sweaty forehead, probably trying to look like Everyman.

And tell me again why President Barack Obama has to lower himself two more times to debate this Ken doll? (Apologies to the much-more-real Ken doll, who is supposed to not have a brain and wasn’t intended to be anatomically correct plus Barbie’s never said she worried about his emotional stability. Wow, I JUST LOVE OUR TEAM! The Obama Campaign is soooooo on the ball!

I typically just block any RWer drivel that happens to make its way into my Twitter TL. This one lady from AZ isn’t a follower of me, but apparently a tweet or two of mine came to her attention, so she’s felt the need to send me her BS. One of her mssives had a link to a video about some “bombshell” coming out from Washington Examiner (RW rag) “exposing the Obama campaign as accepting foreign contributions.” I got curious and looked it.

Went right over to http://www.BarackObama.com, under “Get The Facts” I went to the The Truth Team page, filled in the Report An Attack form, giving them a link to the youtube video. Did another form with a link to the Washington Examiner article.

Guess what? They’ve already got a response up on the Truth Team blog:

Right click on the time stamp of the tweet
          choose ‘copy link location’
          paste into a TOD comment.

          On a tablet, etc:

Click on the time stamp and the individual tweet will come up
Copy the url in the address line at the top
Paste the address in a TOD comment

          Hi there Yardam!

I’m sure there’s simpler way, but here’s what I do:
          1) There’s usually an “Expand” link at the bottom of the tweet. Click on that link. [Sometimes instead of Expand, you'll see "View media" "View photo" or "View conversation" - click whichever it is.]
          2) When the tweet is “expanded” look for the Details link and click on it. This opens up a page with just the selected tweet.
          3) Copy the URL from this page (from the browser address box).
          4) Then come here and paste that URL in a comment.

Yep, I had some goober telling me last night that a “national magazine” was going to drop a bombshell about a donor scandal. Told the guy that it already came up in 2008 and didn’t go anywhere. He said ‘well, this time its going to be published by a national magazine’. You know who published the original story in 2008? THE WASHINGTON POST. You can’t get anymore “national” than that. I’m surprised that Rachel Maddow cited that PEW Poll as if it were valid, without even hinting that there might be problem with the sampling. Rachel is losing her credibility FAST. She is a Rhodes scholar and has a fucking PhD in political science. So she doesn’t have the excuse of not knowing how to read statistical data off a damn poll.

I have one wish for my Birthday that’s coming up next month and that’s for President Obama to beat Romney by a landslide and to watch these so-called pundits with their mouths open as the polls are called. Four years ago my birthday wish was for Barack Obama to win the election and he did. So I’m keeping the faith.

  17. October 8, 2012 at 9:20 pm

And more “news”: Gallup is switching to an LV model for tomorrow’s poll, that will “wipe out” today’s 5 point lead. Can’t have Obama leading, can we?

  18. October 8, 2012 at 9:23 pm

  19. 93 FoxfireTX
    October 8, 2012 at 9:23 pm

In an effort to keep things calm tomorrow, let’s set expectations. We know another Pew poll for DK is coming out tomorrow showing Romney with a lead. Kos already tweeted the bulk of the sample was conducted on Thurs, Fri and Sat so it will not reflect the Sat night and Sun night increases for PBO. In other words, ignore it:-)

Second, Susan Page from USA Today “speculated” that Gallup was switching from registered voters to likely voters in the poll tomorrow (4 weeks out from the election perhaps?) Usuallywhen this switch occurs we see a drop in PBO’s numbers due to historically better turnout amongst Repubs. If Gallup does that, don’t be surprised if PBO’s lead drops from the 5 points we saw today to 1-2 points. We’ve been here before, remember the Palin bump that put McCain up by 5? So let’s just use it as motivation to make a few more phone calls, knock on a few more doors, etc. Forward!

She has a meme to push. This chicken little shit is probably good for ratings and definitely pleases her corporate masters. I haven’t watched her since she gave the speech she thought PBO should have given in response to the BP Oil spill. She is not an ally of PBO. Something about PBO rubs her the wrong way (maybe she thinks she could do a better job than PBO, as evidenced by her mock speech). She also speaks to her audience as though they are idiots, which I find annoying.

Thanks for this suggestion, but don’t hold out too much hope that those expectations will make any difference. We will be doomed by tomorrow’s news. The media and polls will be reporting through their biased, no good, traitorous, pro-Romney slant. I haven’t seen this before but got a sense as to what is going on. Apparently she has been practicing law in MA in some form and is not admitted to practice in that state. Lawyers do not have a national license but must be licensed in each state in which they practice. That does not necessarily mean taking the bar exam. Many states have recirprocity with certain conditions attached, i.e. if you’re licensed in MN you can obtain a license to practice in WI as a result of your status in MN if certain requirements are met. Alternatively, there is something called “pro hac vice” admission which is admission to practice for a certain case or matter. I practiced all over the country in my younger days but was only licensed in one state. In other states, I was admitted to practice on a case-by-case basis.

Looks like she has been charged with practicing law without a license, which is pretty unusual for someone with a license somewhere, and I assume she is licensed in soe state. Without additional info it’s hard to tell what is going on and most state investigating authorities keep this very tightly guarded. This piece relates to the political side, apparently someone tried to help her out without authority to do so and he is now under attack as well. Just love the depths these Repubs will sink to in order to smear someone.

That. ‘s what I get for lying to myself. Turned on Rachel and after 8 hours she is still citing the less recent Gallup Poll. I could not believe it. Tweeted her show, but I am too upset, again. Even if you account for the time difference, she has still had five hours to google G.A.L.L.U.P.

President Obama has always been pretty critical of cable news. Plouffe never hesitates to express his negative view of them either. And didn’t Plouffe said pre-debate that the pundits were eager to write the come back story of Romney ? Pundits are happily responding. And yes, I think their ferocity has something to do with Plouffe remarks and with the Obama team’s contempt for the national punditry.

National pundits are very THIN SKINNED. To be candid, I think the Obama team has been very foolish to regularly make critics about the media. Let me explain… If they accused them of being biased towards conservatives, that wouldn’t hurt, because we’re talking about working the refs. Republicans have certainly demonstrated that working the refs works. HOWEVER, what President Obama and his team have been doing regularly is mocking cable news, their relevance, the quality of their work, their obsession about politics instead of policy, etc… This is the kind of thing that hurts the EGO of these guys. NO WONDER they are taking their revenge.

I absolutely support President Obama and his team, LOVE THEM, but their strategy with the media is one of the RARE areas where I think they’ve done a mistake. While I understand and share their contempt for the media, making an enemy out of the pundits was not wise. Pretty obvious this week.

The power of the TV pundits is diminishing, but let’s not fool ourselves, it’s still there.

Oh please spare us all of this bullshit analysis…

Like making nice and playing footsie with corrupt, mediocre, self-important, insecure, hostage-taking assholes in the media ever yielded anything good, tangible or permanent…

At the very most, a very short-lived and fleeting exploitative relationship that relies mostly on continually feeding an insatiable beast and the risk of still getting badly burnt by unethical and callous bastards if you ever choose to curtail or control access at any point…

There are no upsides to collaborating with the devil..

The latest Gallup poll that has PBO leading by 5 does not fit into the meme she is pushing. She is well aware of the later, more favorable polls existence, but is choosing to ignore it and exploit the fears of her viewers who trust her to level with them. Why anyone would trust her or not question her loyalties/motives after this display of propaganda is beyond naive, imho. Recognize the game being played.

I have no insight. I can’t understand at all why Jim would go on Hannity. He knows Hannity is not a journalist.
What did he say? What questions did Hannity ask him? I NEVER watch FOX, so this was an entire shock to me.
What has distressed me is what Jim did to himself during the debate. He has been a respected journalist….perhaps one of the last, considered fair, and now to really end his career this way is sad. I read an interview he did after the debate, and he was very defensive, I thought. Ten years ago he would have been able to stand back, analyze and see what had happened. Age does things to us.

thank you, carolyn. i greatly appreciate your opinion. i actually defended jim after the debate and i felt he showed appropriate frustration with the mittbot bully. with hannity being so extreme though, it’s really tough to find a way to defend this decision to appear on his show.

i personally think that people make “deals with the devil,” either subconsciously or very overtly, that they have to go along with the billionaire games in order to have access to the big media, and i was wondering in jim has ever expressed anything in this direction. it’s annoyed me when i see other liberals attack democrats saying they “need to” get on this or that show and or need to say this or that. it doesn’t work that way. there are gatekeepers and no matter how much someone like nancy pelosi wants to be on news shows, it doesn’t matter. the people who own the shows determine who is on, hence newt gingrich having unlimited airtime for decades. hence george will and cokie roberts still getting away with the grift for decades and unlimited airtime on any network and even npr.

i don’t think the the real string pullers would ever allow jim lehrer to host presidential debates if they thought he’d rock the boat too much. hence candy crowley hosting a presidential debate. jim plays it safe in my opinion, and i started thinking that many years ago. this last week has provided further proof of my opinion.

I think on an intellectual level they know the MSM is biased. But on an emotional level they still BELIEVE what the media says and lets it effect their perception of realityand mood. Or more charitably, they worry about OTHER people believing the MSM bullcrap. In addition, some are attached to and trust the “liberal” media personalities on MSNBC and elsewhere, and since they are buying into the nonsense, they think there must be something to it. The fact the Pew and others are forced to literally manipulate polls to produce results favorable to Mitt tells me the MSM was less effective than it had hoped with its anti-PBO propaganda that followed the debate.

Have You All Lost Your Goddamn Minds?

“I’ve spent the last few days talking to you motherfuckers, and I have several questions, beginning with: did you motherfuckers watch the same debate as me? Cause for the last few days, I’ve heard people saying ‘why didn’t he point out that Romney was lying?’ He did. ‘Why didn’t he tie the economy to education or healthcare?’ He did. He made much of the same case for his Presidency as did Bill Clinton. He just didn’t do it with the bullshit flourish that is Clinton’s specialty. But shit, for the last four years, he hasn’t done the flourish. He’s been tired almost every day. He’s been tired at every press conference. He’s been tired at every speech and every state of the union with the exception of a handful of incidents. And all of a sudden, you’re surprised he comes off tired? Fuck yes, he’s tired. For four years, for four years while you were antsy that he was playing the adult in the room, while you thought he was being too nice, he fought daily for every reform at every impasse. Bill Clinton, for all his talents, didn’t do what Barack Obama did. Not for the uninsured. Not for the poor. Not for college students. Not for women. Not for the children of illegal immigrants. Not in a recession. This President has wound down two wars. He gave the kill order for Osama Bin Laden. He has promoted genuine efforts at democracy in the middle east, in a region that is in the middle of a revolution that came under his watch. ”

What I don’t like most of all by all the blasting of news of tightening polls, manipulated or not, is that I wanted Obama’s lead to be large enough, in reality AND perception, that it would be impossible to steal the election. When I saw a substantial lead in a state—-high single digits or double digits in some states, I thought—good, they can’t steal that one now——-especially the states with Repubs in charge, where voter disenfranchisement efforts have been going on. I’m hoping PBO can build a nice lead again, especially in key states, before the election. Legitimate polls would help, where they’re not just messing with the crosstabs. And if Dems are telling pollsters they’re not absolutely positive they are going to vote, they need to educate themselves and realize what is at stake. I don’t understand how people could be apathetic about this election—–at all——the whole future of this country is at stake.

Okay—as LOD makes clear, Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” nonsense comes from the Bible. Why am I not surprised? O’Donnell reads from the book—-a whole bunch of junk about if a woman gets raped in the city and doesn’t cry out, then she AND her rapist get stoned to death—–not a legitimate rape. If she is out in the country and doesn’t cry out, it doesn’t count because no one is around to hear her and so only the rapist gets stoned to death, the woman is let off the hook. If she cries out in the city, where there are people around to hear her—-legitimate rape. Etc. Etc. Etc. That’s where Akin got his crazy notion about rape——which has been widely ridiculed and rightly so.

I once set myself a challenge to read the bible – all of it, cover to cover – it took me over a year and I cheated by not reading the beget, begat lists because I didn’t think there was much of interest in that. I was appalled by a lot of the things that are written in there. The treatment of women was something we would never find acceptable in today’s society. The passage LOD quoted tonight about “legitimate rape” was one I remembered because I was so disgusted when I read it. It was the kind of thing you have to read for yourself because your priest, rabbi, minister would never read those unpalatable parts to you. People seem to forget that these books were written by people who only placed value on males. They treated women and children like possessions. They had multiple wives and were constantly at war. Genocide and the killing of all the children of enemies was normal. There are other passages that are even worse than the “legitimate rape” part. Don’t get me wrong. Of course there were other parts that were inspiring and comforting. But I only really respect the new testament and the teachings of Jesus. I do believe that everyone should read it for themselves instead of having others tell them what it says. I do pray and believe in a loving higher power that we can draw strength from. But I feel closer to God in a forest surrounded by nature than I do in a church. Point is, this is the 21st century not 500BC.

Just thinking, as we well know, we have President Obama’s back and he has ours. No, I don’t know him or his family personally. I like so many others strongly like him and his family and his group. As his virtual friend I refuse to panic at every little snippet that comes up about him and his abilities. The man is human and cannot be perfect at all times. He gets tired. He gets distracted. He gets annoyed. He will be fine. I would like to see him take a mini-break and maybe he can. He is work-a-holic by nature and it is hard for him to do so. Great men have their moments of ‘humanness’ but he’ll bounce back and quite frankly he hasn’t slippe as far as I’m comcerned. He is charismatic and powerful. The ‘others’ fear him and he is definitely an irresistible force.I am in his corner and will remain so. I am maintaining peace of mind because that is what he and his family and the team needs. It will be alright. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!!

In 2008, Pressler revealed that he cast an absentee ballot for Barack Obama, noting that he had never voted for a Democrat before.

Pressler is noted for being possibly the only member of Congress to flatly refuse to take a bribe from undercover FBI agents and then to report the bribe attempt to the FBI during the Abscam investigations in 1980. John Murtha also declined the bribe, but expressed interest in later opportunities. The Washington Post reported in a front page story on Sunday, February 4 the following:

Thanks to the FBI’s undercover “sting” operation, there now exists incontrovertible evidence that one senator would not be bought. Preserved among the videotape footage that may be used as bribery evidence against a number of members of Congress, there is a special moment in which Sen. Larry Pressler (R-SD) tells the undercover agents, in effect, to take their sting and stick it. Pressler, according to law enforcement sources was the one approached member of Congress who flatly refused to consider financial favors in exchange for legislative favors, as suggested by undercover agents posing as Arabs. At the time he said he was not aware that he was doing anything quite so heroic.[9]

In an overall review of the Abscam cases, Judge J. Pratt had the highest praise for Senator Pressler. “Pressler, particularly, acted as citizens have a right to expect their elected representatives to act. He showed a clear awareness of the line between proper and improper conduct, and despite his confessed need for campaign money, and despite the additional attractiveness to him of the payment offered, he nevertheless refused to cross into impropriety.”

Finally, he said that with all of that, he would grow the economy enough to shrink and eventually eliminate the deficit—without raising taxes on anyone. And he claimed that there are several studies proving he can fulfill all of these conflicting promises—even though he refuses to provide any specific tax proposals beyond a broad tax cut.

There is no study proving that Romney can do what he promised, and among his lies is his description of editorials in the Wall Street Journal as “studies” of his plan. The most complete and unrefuted study of his claims remains the Tax Policy Center’s bipartisan report on the Romney plan, which shows that there is simply no way to pay for his $5 trillion, across-the-board tax cut without raising taxes on the middle class. None of the alternative studies he has cited proves otherwise—and some of them actually amass additional evidence that he is wrong.

Undoubtedly he knows all that. He knows that eliminating the estate tax, a mainstay of his plan, will benefit the rich enormously and almost nobody else.
He also knows that when he claims economic growth alone will erase the deficit, without raising taxes, he is inventing impossible numbers. As The National Memo’s Howard Hill demonstrated yesterday, the assumptions behind his claims are ridiculous. For the numbers to work, he would have to create not 12 million jobs, as he promised to do by 2016, but 162 million—more than the total current U.S. workforce. Or else the jobs created would have to pay more than $443,000 per year on average, which is even less likely than Rafalca winning the dressage medal at the next Summer Olympics.

Wrap you heads around those numbers. Stunning Fucking Liar.

    Here’s whats going to happen:

Thursday: VP Biden will call out Ryan regarding the New MODERATE (psycho) Romney who had 14 different NEW condradictory (some even Obama’s) positions. Ryan will be forced to say, “I AM NOT ROMNEY”, distancing himself and making the ticket look weak and stupid. Like Fredo.

Then PBO will ask Romney where are his views THIS week, since he’s changed his mind so many times. Romney will say, “nuh uh” like the spoiled toddler he is. Obama will bring up one or all of what Romney said this week – or compare whatever view Romney has at the next debate with what he said at the first one. The best part of being a serial liar, is they can never keep up with their own reality before they fall through the holes.

Romney fell through his own holes the first debate. Most of us saw it. We also saw Obama get out of the way and LET HIM. PBO will actually point it out to everyone including the media next round. Hopefully they will also see it, and won’t have to be led by the hand or beat over the head too much.

so this week has been another good example of the need for limiting online time and the various places to visit. what sites are left that are worth visiting anymore? i have just a few now:

    1. Here, although some people who fill the comment sections with chicken little-ism are making it increasingly difficult.
    2. the people’s view is consistently good and the comments are highly moderated, which is good.
    3. smarty pants is always good and interesting.
    4. for me, PoliticsUSA has become a go-to place, especially anything from jason easley. all the writers are good, but he really stands out to me.

I don’t really know any others anymore. dailykos occasionally has something and i know some good people here post there, but overall not worth it to me. balloon juice is all over the map and too much of a clique-y scene for me and yet another “former republican” lecturing me, a life-long democrat, on what it means to be a liberal. that’s probably enough since we all should be hitting the streets or data entry points more rather than reading blogs, but are there any other sites of sanity in this age of obama derangement syndrome?

SAN FRANCISCO – O.J. Simpson jokes are apparently now fair game in presidential politics.

President Obama invoked the former NFL star acquitted of murder Monday night during a fundraiser here during a riff about Sesame Street characters on the run from Mitt Romney seeking to cut federal funding from public broadcasting.

“Elmo has been seen in a white Suburban,” Obama said. “He’s driving for the border.”

Simpson, of course, traveled in a white Ford Bronco, not a Chevrolet Suburban, during his infamous 1994 low-speed chase through Los Angeles.

Obama’s late-night fundraising pitch also included his first on-camera rebuttal to Romney’s latest foreign policy address, delivered more than 12 hours earlier in Virginia.

“Gov. Romney, he has a different view,” Obama said. “He said it’s tragic to end the war in Iraq. In a speech today he doubled down on that belief. He said ending the war was a mistake. I disagree. Bringing our troops home was the right thing to do.”

Earlier Monday, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told reporters on a conference call arranged by the campaign that Romney’s speech was “very shallow.”

And while Obama didn’t repeat his Sunday night joke about his lousy debate performance, he did make a reference to the legion of unsolicited advice he has received since his Denver effort.

“Listen, you know, after the debate I had a bunch of folks come to me and say, ‘Don’t be so polite, don’t be so nice,’” Obama said. “But, but, I want everybody to understand something. What was being presented wasn’t leadership, it was salesmanship.”

    October 9, 2012 at 4:20 am

I seriously do not know what all this talk about debate and polls is all about. Even if President Obama had walked on stage and Mitt Romney had walked over to him and physically knocked him out so that he was lying helplessly on the floor of that stage, I will not allow myself to be reactive but control the narrative. This is what everyone who posts on this site must do until the election!

There will be good days and bad days but our collective attitudes will help everyone through.
It is too late in the game now to allow discouraged members to come to this site and depress everyone else. I have just literally been scrolling past any comments that has debate or poll information in it. (To me it is irrelevant). It has made catching up real fast too.

There were 2 things I was 100% sure of going into this election
The first is that President Barack Obama is a good man, with a strong heart for the people and not easily intimidated, by republicans in congress, the media, the democrats in congress, not even by the chance that he may lose this election.

President Barack Hussein Obama will continue to be who he is and I do not care what happens in his next 2 meetings with the holder of the Guinness World Record for Most Lies told in political discuss, I will be matching forward. Whatever happens let us get ahead of the narrative. We already know what these people are going to do and yet always seem to be surprised every time they do it?? “Puzzling”

The second thing is that the real enemy was not the republicans but actually the media- These people believe they were responsible for President Obama’s win in 2008 and he has not paid them their due by sucking up and kissing their shoes as homage. There are few media types that can be trusted Martin Bashir, Rev Al and the like the exception because they have been consistent. All others have not been and for that reason alone, they should be avoided as much as possible.
This way people are better able to remain positive until Nov 6. There is no room for demoralization folks, it is the last lap before the sprint to the finish on this distant race and discouragement does more harm at this point than good.

Every one took it for granted that the President will knock it out the park in the last dodgy encounter with the Guinness World Record Holder but with President Obama, past experience has thought me not to project on him how he should act and just take it as I see it and I find with that I am never disappointed but accept totally who he is.

And yes folks like the rest of us, he too is very HUMAN.

Instead of moaning about how you think he did start with the reason why you are supporting this president! Push back on anyone who is peddling the nonsense, then tell them why you are supporting this president. Fill the airwaves with your support and let us see how long the naysayers will last especially when their efforts to demoralize and discourage is not working.

This is my very long 2 cents :-)

    • October 9, 2012 at 5:19 am

      Very well stated, thanks!

My two cents: Lower Unemployment, Big Bird, and Lies – rinse, shake, repeat.

    • October 9, 2012 at 6:16 am

My 2 cents, if the President loses, and I dint think he will, but if he does lose, he might be ok but we will not. Not with Bush squared as President.
The American public is stupid, for some reason, both sides of the media is working overtime to defeat this President.
Yea, the media does have that power, but I am sure Robney will have stuff to answer for in the next 28 days. The media lives to test down both sides, frankly, I guess it’s the Presidents turn.

      • October 9, 2012 at 6:26 am

Jovie, as I state before, the meme on November 7th from the media and GOP will be “Obama didn’t win it, Romney lost.” Put it in the books!

        • October 9, 2012 at 6:38 am

I agree! The fact remains, they are really digging for shit.
For example: when the GOP starts complaining about polls and the media, I know a big shift is on the way… Has nothing to do with gains made, just republicans playing the Refs. For some reason, they can do that, we cannot.
Just listen to the cherry picking of state polls, the enthusiasm likely voter model in a presidential year, the crazed talking point of MSNBainC Obama lost the debate, etc.
          Swiftboating!

huge headline on huffypuffy–‘mitt romney’s bain made millions on big tobacco’
and this is the guy the rethugs think should be president???? this guy??????????????

‘ As the Soviet Union splintered in the early-1990s, Sushovan Ghosh packed his colleagues into a van and chugged across the collapsing nation, hitting depressed towns and famished cities, busted up factories and lonely kiosks. In each ragged destination, they stopped long enough to interview cigarette smokers.

Ghosh plied the citizenry with free cigarettes and, sometimes, McDonald’s hamburgers.

They were pursuing a lucrative target: determining what Russian smokers wanted out of a cigarette — specifically, a Western cigarette. “We had to develop a brand the Russians would smoke,” Ghosh explained to The Huffington Post. For one study, they interviewed more than 1,000 smokers. “We stopped the bus and offered them cigarettes. And they all queued.”

Ghosh’s work for cigarette companies was chaotic, unbridled and, ultimately, deadly. To Mitt Romney and his colleagues at Bain & Co., it was a chance to rake in money. Ghosh said he reported directly to Romney, who was excited about the Russian market. “He was my boss,” Ghosh said.

At the time, Romney was CEO of Bain & Co., the Boston-based consulting firm that launched his white-collar career and led him into the high-stakes world of corporate buyouts. Although Romney’s activities helming the private equity giant Bain Capital have drawn significant attention, his role at Bain & Co. has received almost no public scrutiny. A Huffington Post investigation into Bain’s tobacco work found that the consulting firm helped Philip Morris increase its revenues in the U.S., and aided two other tobacco titans as they vied to move forcefully into the Russian market.
    ~
Bain’s Russian business wasn’t about family-friendly products. Those deals were about cigarettes. And that work sent Bain into the shadows of the post-Soviet economy -– including helping to orchestrate anonymous, convoluted cash transactions to keep major deals hidden from regulators and competitors. It was part of a free-for-all that involved wholesale looting of major industries, as Western technocrats helped facilitate the transfer of Russia’s wealth into the hands of a few oligarchs. That set in motion a populist backlash that helped sweep Vladimir Putin into power, giving the Kremlin dominance over a country Romney has lately called our “number one geopolitical enemy.” ‘

Something TOD FAM Needs to see if already has not been posted.. from Kevin Drum at Mother Jones.

    Snippet..

“Here’s how things would have gone if liberals had their fair share of hacks. Obviously Obama wasn’t at his best on Wednesday. But when the debate was over that wouldn’t have mattered. Conservatives would have started crowing about how well Romney did. Liberals would have acknowledged that Obama should have confronted Romney’s deceptions more forcefully, but otherwise would have insisted that Obama was more collected and presidential sounding than the hyperactive Romney and clearly mopped the floor with him on a substantive basis. News reporters would then have simply reported the debate normally: Romney said X, Obama said Y, and both sides thought their guy did great. By the next day it would barely be a continuing topic of conversation, and by Friday the new jobs numbers would have buried it completely.”

That was the point I tried to make yesterday—–it would have been a whole different ballgame had Dems—-from all corners—-not piled on. As I said, it wouldn’t have been that hard to back Obama—–his answers were sane and smart—–and he didn’t lie!—–while Romney was manic and lying and coming up with all kinds of brand new policies which were the opposite of everything he had said to that point. There would have been no clear declared winner, a theme that spread throughout the media and repeated until it became fact—–aided by Obama supporters, which was baffling to me. And as I’m typing there is Eugene Robinson saying Romney didn’t lie in the debate, Obama did poorly, Romney was more impressive—–as Morning Joe gloats about the mittmentum.

good luck with that. I have said day one it’s Obama vs Media/Gop. But all we seem to care about is what the republicans are doing, which is meaningless, The media is the republican power let’s go after the media but it fell on deaf ears.

Good morning everyone!! I’ve been on vacation in Paris and now catching up on politics. I saw POTUS in the debate the night before I left and he looked and sounded lethargic and without his usual charisma and fighting spirit that he has on the campaign trail. But reading through comments here and on Twitter it seems all a bit overblown if all of this is about the meaningless national polls. Or did the swing state polls change? I haven’t seen any of those but haven’t read through everything yet.

Still can’t figure out why POTUS was not “engaged in the debate”. LOL, he looked like he was at a joint press conference with a foreign leader and no one gave him the translator ear piece.

Chuck Todd just said, why is the President keep talking about the debate? It’s the media. Omg!

So if President Obama never mention Big Bird, the media and cable pundits would let the talk about the debate go. I don’t believe that one bit. I have no problem with them mentioning Big Bird. He should talk about the lies Romney told in that debate. And I am one who don’t think the President was as bad as the media seem to convince everyone he was.

Remember this alot of kids grew up watching Sesame Street. Mothers ( women )have let their kids watch Sesame Street. I watch it when I was younger. Oscar the Grouch was my favorite, but now it’s Elmo.

I am sure there will be a lot of “Obama needs to …” on Twitter. I already am thinking that myself as being removed from it for a few days it seems clear to me that Romney succeeded in the debate by being forceful; in fact a bully as most would define it. Sorry to stereotype but I think that the the undecided or female swing voter is looking for a strong decisive leader at this time so I don’t understand why they would release a Big Bird commercial that is both a reminder of the debate and has a playful tone to it. A more serious tone on the success of the administration’s economic turnaround and the GOP’s sick war on women or some ad on a similar serious issue and serious tone is what is needed, imho.

Please remember that we were told yesterday that there were going to be changes in some polls and that we would not be happy with how they would be interpreted. So dont continue the conversation they want to have they will still be talking about the debate till thy kingdom come.

These media people know that romney is not surging. Let us talk about that stupid romney Foreign Policy speech yesterday that have surely cemented the views World leaders have of this idiot.
