White House live
I flukes in close, tho, didn’t I?
Congrats on first utaustinliberal. 3 great minds think alike, you Pamela and I, we all posted at the same time!!!! Wow.
Back now for a lunch break, and an attempt to catch up!
Very, very close! A real photo finish! Congrats, Pamela.
Photo? Photo? I see no photo!
I’m keeping the pic out of regular circulation so Mitt can’t get rid of it. Keep up your efforts, the prize is getting closer.
that’s good news.
Every now and then I have to delurk and break this out. This seems like and appropriate time…
Were you there……???
Were you there when Barack met with a political strategist the day after September 11th and was told with his name, even getting a job at the post office would be damn near impossible?
Were you there when Barack was told he would have a great future with the Democratic Party, but that his time to run was not until 2012 or 2016?
Were you there when Barack had the audacity and temerity, he a black freshman senator with the middle name Hussein, to attempt to unseat the Democratic royal family?
Were you there when all the pundits said, “yeah, he’s charismatic but he can’t win this nomination”?
Were you there when someone was called “The Inevitable One”?
Were you there when Barack was down 30pts in the polls trailing Hillary Clinton?
Were you there when Barack said he would meet with foreign leaders we do not like and the pundits all said his naive answer would end his nomination bid?
Where you there when Barack said if he had actionable intelligence he would send troops into Pakistan to get Bin Laden, and he was called naïve?
Were you there when Reverend Wright’s “hate filled words” – fox news, were going to grind the Obama campaign to a halt?
Were you there when Barack couldn’t win big states?
Where you there when Barack couldn’t win white middle class voters?
Were you there when Barack didn’t have enough experience?
Chances are you were not there, but guess what, Barack Obama still managed to win the nomination without your advice. He managed to go where most thought he never could. He may have had your help canvassing or donating or making calls, but more than likely your input did not go into the campaign strategy. So while we all wait with baited breath and fret about the future of our children, let us not lose our composure. This campaign team brought us this far. This campaign team will take us all the way. Yes the McSame campaign may “appear” to have grabbed the momentum, but lies exposed to the light will eventually fall apart. This has started to happen, the Falin, I’m sorry, Palin interview last night and then McSame squirming on the view…
In the waning seconds of the game a “panicker” is not what you want. You want a Jordan, a Michael Jordan, he who had the cajones to walk the ball down court in game 6 of the NBA finals with the Bulls down 1 point and 17seconds left in the 4th, he would then wait for the opportune moment while letting the clock run down to 5 seconds and then nail the winning basket.
So as Senator Obama has said, “Chill the fuck out, I got this!!!”
Since the man has become President and everybody with an opinion has offered theirs on how he should do this and how he should do that. It’s hard not to get pissed off at some of the professional (know nothing) TV talking heads, but you have to remember what Emmet Smith of the Dalla Cowboys said about opinions, they’re like a certain body part at the end of the colon, everybody has one and some people can’t help acting like one. And if the history of the campaign success in spite of all the odds is not reassuring enough, when you get discouraged, ask yourself the following questions, and remember this captain has led this ship through unspeakable storms while we slept.
Where you there when healthcare reform was dead, when the tea party took over town hall meetings and owned the summer, when the Democrats lost Senator Kennedy’s seat to the Republicans?
Where you there when “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” would never get repealed?
Where you there when Donald Duck, I mean Trump was getting the best of President Obama?
Where you there when President Obama was soft on terrorism? (Mr. Bin Laden was, and look where he is now)
I got your back Mr. President, I got your back, and I know you got ours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember this. Always good to have a reminder now and then.
I remember this.
I really hope that President Obama wins on November 6th. I’ll be right there with him and his supporters. Doing all I can to make his win a reality.
Fired up and ready to go!!!
That is exactly right ; Slick9
❤❤❤❤³ x ∞
Love it. And nobody’s stealing my joy this time like they started to try to do the day after the Inauguration in ’09. I’ve got your back, Mr. President! And I’m ridin’ with Biden, too, there’s that.
Wonderful reminder of all that has happened.
One correction, he didn’t say he’d send troops into Pakistan for Osama, but he did say if he had actionable intelligence that Osama was in Pakistan and they weren’t willing to act he would. At the time of his iniitial foreign policy speech when he said that, people accused him of wanting to have a war with Packinstan but that’s not what he said. Just clearing that up.
Yes. We. Were.
Yes. We. Are. Still. IN!
Despite the hair on fire crap from Liberal pundits, post debate Gallup poll shows Pres. Obama at 51% approval and leading Romney 50%-45%.— (@utaustinliberal) October 08, 2012
Some liberals and liberal pundits need to grow spines.
The media is focusing on the Gallup poll showing a dead heat between President Obama and Romney. That’s all they’re focusing on.
That was a regular poll and not a tracking poll. But things have changed and will continue to change in our direction through the week.
Rather the media is focusing on how their big oil, and healthcare etc. sponsors to pay for their bills as it focuses on a dead heat.
For instance, Part of the group’s anti-government healthcare campaign is television ads that feature “horror stories” of Canadian and British residents who “allegedly suffered long waits for surgeries, couldn’t get the drugs they needed, or had to come to the United States for treatment.” After the release of the 2007 Michael Moore movie “Sicko,” industry groups including Health Care America and America’s Health Insurance Plans responded with similar scare tactics.
I know that’s an old source. But, how many times a day do we not see ads for oil, clean coal, healthcare, etc, on liberal tv?
This pisses me off more than I can say. I am a grateful recipient of Canada’s health care system. Of course it’s not perfect — it was designed and built and maintained by human beings! When a problem develops in one area, attention is paid. For example, when we moved here in 2004, the waiting list for knee/hip replacements was long. Maybe more than a year. So the gov’t shifted resources to fix the problem. By the time my husband needed a new knee, the waiting time was gone.
The medical needs of humans vary so money has to be moved around to fix problems (which cannot always be predicted). If I could get comparable care for a comparable price, I’d consider moving back to the US. At my age, I can’t gamble.
Didn’t we say that was what their agenda was all along? Romney lying in that debate prove the media agenda isn’t the truth.
Thank you, UT.
Some “liberals” and “liberal pundits” are serving the same conservative agenda and their concern trolling is getting old.
Utaustinliberal, be fair it was HAIR ON FIRE for his supporters, inculuding people who write everyday on this site.
Didn’t you read my accompanying comment which mentioned that.
No, I didn’t and if I see something that catches my eye, that is what I respond to…
Well next time, you would do well to read everything before commenting.
No next time you would be better keeping your thoughts together.
If you’re so moronic that you comment before reading everything, (the tweet and comment went together) that’s on you not me. Anyone with commonsense would know that you read everything before commenting. Guess you never learned that.
I accept that you are a moron.
Look down at the other responses Michele. The fault lies with you. But as always you look for someone else to blame. Hahahahahaha. Pathetic.
Whoa, Michele!! Calm down!! You did not read her full post, so I don’t think you have the right to be getting crunk. Just admit you overlooked that part of her post and move on. Geez!!
Thank you very much.
Except you you admitted you did not read ALL her thoughts.
My point exactly. Thank you.
Michele, any more of that and you’re out of here.
So people calling other people morons is cool with you? So disable me now since being called out of my birth name is acceptable to you..
No, I’d prefer if we didn’t talk to each other like that when we’re arguing things out, but you kicked this off, for no good reason.
Chips, its all cool but please knock me out. Peace and blessings but my mama has never called me a moron and I have never been abused by her nor my daddy. I don’t expect a stranger to call me out of birth name because I didn’t call that person out of their name.
Many of whom were influenced by the ranting and raving of the pundits. I don’t understand this pointing the finger at posters on this blog when the liberal media/pundits are criticized. Several regulars and some newbies broke out into a panic, but in the end calmer heads prevailed. UT and many on this site justifiiably point the finger at the MSM and pundits b/c they should know better (they are professionals right) and the reach of their opinions far out strip any post on this site. I cannot answer for what someone on this site posted, we each speak for ourselves and give our own opinion. Thank you UT for sharing your tweets.
Thank you Eric. Very much appreciated.
What was it that the black Governor of Mass said at the DNC, Democrats need to grow some spine. I was so dam fed with the pundits like Ed Schultz and Chris Matthews.
Governor Deval Patrick. and he made that comment for everyone.
Of course, NPR quotes Pew Research that says R at 49, O at 45, post debate. How stupid can you be to tout the miscreant who wants to cut your funding?
Ok. This is my last gunnite. I am putting my foot down.
(Thanks Chips for posting that fab vid)

“L.O.V.E – Let One Voice Emerge” is a non-partisan campaign to reach out to the largest group of non-voters in America — nearly 20 million unmarried women — and to support the important work of The Voter Participation Center and their partners. The Voter Participation Center’s mission on behalf of the Rising American Electorate (unmarried women, persons of color and young people) is to register and encourage these groups to the polls, which aligns with the goal of our campaign.
@LoveVoting2012 Fantastic video, even more fantastic message! Thank you for all you are doing to empower every eligible voter! #FORWARD— Bobfr47 (@Our4thEstate_47) October 08, 2012
Wow! This blew me away! I saw Keke Palmer, Siedah Garrett (where the hell has she been?), Fergie, Sheila E (she can’t hide from me in those shades), Judith Hill (Michael Jackson’s This Is It), Patti Austin, Brenda Russell, one of my FAVE, FAVE, FAVEs Lalah Hathaway… and my eyes popped out!
After I shoved my eyes back in my head, I kept watching and noticed Vanessa Williams (Soul Food), Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice), Sharon Lawrence (from NYPD Blue), Dawn Lewis (A Different World), Alyssa Milano (Charmed, Melrose Place), Brandon Routh (Superman), and Seth Green…
Then I went to look up the website for this project and found all this great info about it. Check it out!
As I suspected Patti, Siedah and Brenda co-wrote it. Always loved them as individual artists, but this reminded how awesome each of them have been when colloborating with others.
Great message! Great song! This made my day!! Going to download this baby!!
Thanks so much Donna!!
Josh Marshall on the post-debate polls. bit.ly/R0dx3R Or if you're conservative, just keep screaming "skewed."— David Pleasant (@dpleasant) October 08, 2012
You know, 57, I think this is the “hawking” effect at work. Hawkers (media) talk and talk and talk to get people to think a certain way and people say, “well, maybe they’re right.” Then people give it a real look at what’s on sale and say, “meh, I don’t think so.” The media has been and will keep trying to sell the Mitt product, but anyway you try to market it, it just stinks.
REPUBLICAN FORMER SENATOR BACKS OBAMA
WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 (UPI) — Former Sen. Larry Pressler, R-S.D., has decided to endorse Democrat Barack Obama for president…
Pressler — the first Vietnam veteran to serve in the U.S. Senate — joins a list of prominent Republicans who have endorsed Obama. He has also donated $500 to the Obama campaign… “I just got the feeling that Obama will be able to handle this financial crisis better, and I like his financial team of (former Treasury Secretary Robert) Rubin and (former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul) Volcker better,” he said. …

This is from 2008. No?
Looks like but Huntsman snr recently endorsed the Dem in utah. was on huffy.
Okay, I found his 2012 endorsement!
// “As a combat veteran of two tours in Vietnam with twenty-two years of service as a Republican member of the U.S. House and Senate, I endorse President Barack Obama for a second term as our Commander-in-Chief. Candidates publicly praise our service members, veterans and their families, but President Obama supports them in word and deed, anywhere and every time.” //
Thanks JER and Hopefruit for sharing this! Former Senator Larry Pressler issued a very strong, thoroughly reasoned, endorsement! I hope his statement is shared widely, and especially with veterans and people still on active duty in the military.
Oops! My mistake.
Not to worry- we found the 2012 article!
Media is playing games as we know. They want this race to be about three debates because they know that the GOP has nothing. We are not gullible about these polls. They can be skewed to a desired narrative. No way are we are going to let this election be about three debates. President Obama has a very good record of accomplishments. I just be damn Iif Willard thinks that he can string us along, tells us nothing about helping this country and try to steal this election with the help of the media.
The media has the power to influence if you let them in my opinion…people will tune in for information not opinions…I believe the American people are smarter than pundits realize. For example, CNN ratings on Wednesday night during the debate at 8 pm ( +2 million, 9pm ( 5.9 million) and 10 pm (6+ million)…the next day (Thursday) CNN saw a massive lol ratings drop 8pm (645,000), 9pm (598,000) and 10pm (631,000)…The Today Show averages about averages about 4.1 million daily now…NBC would like to blame Ann for their ratings decline but the fact is the Today Show decision to have Palin co-host is what cause their ratings to decline…they have not recovered since. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/10/04/good-morning-america-wins-premiere-week-in-adults-25-54-for-the-first-time-in-21-years/151582/
Buzz Bissinger = "lifelong Democrat" disappointed by Obama's debate style he's voting Romney. Give me a second while I find a fuck to give.— (@utaustinliberal) October 08, 2012
Lifelong horse’s ass more likely, UT, dug up by a desperate GOP to show exactly nothing. The guy shows you can’t fix stupid.
Bless their little hearts. They were able to find someone to counter our republican senator pressler. Lol somehow it just doesn’t carry the same weight.
I see the pressler clip was from 2008 so scratch that
posted above that Huntsman Snr endorsed a DEM in Utah, let’s see who they will counter with.
Apparently the only reason he endorsed the Dem is because the Repub happens to be black. Says a lot about him.
I really don’t think that’s the reason—at all. Mia Love, the Repub, is ultra-conservative on every single issue, way out there on the fringe. Huntsman is not.
I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as you said. Let’s see if he endorses Willard at all.
I heard him endorse Romney on Andrea Mitchell, but it looked like he was gagging on his words. No supportive statements at all, looked like he was saying what he had to say even tho he hated saying it—-he’s a Mormon in Utah after all. When Mitchell asked when was the last time he talked to Romney, he said, “I haven’t”. And just stared at her. His feelings seemed very clear to me.
LunarSea, I found Pressler’s 2012 endorsement, so UNscratch that!
Consider it un-scratched. And I don’t care why huntsman is endorsing a dem, so long as he does!
Way to go Buzz! Buzz cares more about debating style than he does about TRUTH and Policies. How in the world can someone be a “life long Democrat” and then decide to abandon his party just over “debate style” in just one debate out of three? With lifelong democrats like Buzz, who needs idiot tea baggers!
When the President’s speech here is over, here’s a link that you might check out (brought over from bottom of last thread)
I followed the”Change as a joint project between leader and led” link from Smartypants’ blog to the right and ended up on a post I fell is well worth your time, if you haven’t read it yet.
Frontline has put up a series of “artifacts” from the lives of Obama and Romney, including a letter, highlighted by Fallows, that Obama wrote to a friend in 1985 (at age 25) when he was a few months into his job as a community organizer on Chicago’s South Side. One sentence leaped out at me, because it’s echoed in Obama’s rhetoric throughout his career in a strain that’s often written off as mystical hooey — including last month, in Charlotte. Not to be coy, I’ve highlighted it below.
This is a great article. President Obama has been who he is since he entered the scene. And I hope he never changes. If the country can’t recognize the value of this man, then they need to learn the hard lesson under Mitt Romney – because a lesson is repeated until it’s learned. That’s just a fact.
I’d like to think that PBO’s consistency over the years has made, and is making, an impact on voters across the spectrum. I find it hard to accept (even with the past evidence of Bush jr) that as many as 50.1% of Americans are dumb enough, despite any hate they have in their hearts, to vote for a man who is as character-challenged as Mitt has shown himself to be.
Yes, the polls are a reflection on the American electorate (or at least, 50% of it). It’s not a reflection on President Obama, because he hasn’t changed.
Thank you very much, VC, for sharing this article. President Obama matured at a very early age. His faith in the power of ordinary people to affect change has been very consistent. And so has his deep belief that progress is never attained instantaneously. Rather, progress requires persistence, cooperation, and the refusal to give into cynicism.
CBS livestream is open:
Thanks, Meta. I was sitting quietly on WH.gov with the silence, so this is much appreciated.
This is funny. The minute I thanked you I lost the connection…..It’s back now.
Jon Huntsman, Sr., a wealthy industrialist and a Republican, is endorsing Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) over Republican rising star Mia Love in Utah’s 4th congressional district.
“The Matheson and Huntsman families have enjoyed three generations of respected association,” Huntsman said in a statement released on Friday afternoon, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. “[Rep. Jim Matheson] is a conservative ‘Blue Dog’ congressional leader from Utah who represents our state very well.”
This right here is some racist bullshit! This fucker Huntsman Sr. would rather vote for a Democrat over a Republican even though the Republican is a member of his own party. I guess Love wasn’t the “right” type of Republican and maybe some of her three generations of family didn’t have a respected association with “Big Daddy” Huntsman.
Is Mia Love Black?
Do you need to have your meds checked? Or am I missing some subtle snark
As a 47-year Utah resident, I’d like to make a comment here. Jim Matheson is the second son of Governor Scott M. Matheson of Utah, who governed Utah from 1977 to 1985. Also, the Matheson and Huntsman families have been long-time allies and friends. Mia Love seems to be a straight, all-aboard right-wing conservative, from the sound of her domestic policies. I think it might be a generational moderate Republican versus a tea party Republican thing rather than a race thing. I liked Jon Huntsman while he was governor of Utah — a moderate Republican, and I liked Scott Matheson, too, though I’ve been, throughout their administrations, a dedicated Democrat along with our entire family.
Exactly what I believe—-the blue dog Dem is closer to Huntsman policies than ultra rt. wing Repub Mia Love. Her policies are no different than some teabagger.
Mia Love isn’t just a member of his party, she’s a member of his Mormon church, too. Personally, I don’t like Mia Love – she’s eagerly spewing the extreme tea party views, and can’t be allowed to enter Congress. I don’t know if it’s racism or just her extreme views, but, it’s an interesting move, nonetheless.
So, you would rather have an Allen West like extreme tebagger who enables racists as a congresswoman just because she is black? I am sorry, Don, but I totally reject your logic.
Love this from Madeleine Albright! If Romney were in her university classes, she would give him a C because of his shallow ideas. Straight out of the Cold War.
Hahahahahahaha…Tamron Hall was repeating the wrong Gallup Poll of 47%-47% for Pres. Obama and Romney. She got massive push back on twitter (from me included) because she kept repeating the crap poll and behaving as though Pres. Obama was doomed. She just corrected herself and talked about the real number which shows Pres. Obama up over Romney 50%-45%. She said she got fierce push back on twitter.
AHA! You see the power of Twitter? Thanks UT and all our other Twitter warriors
That was why Gallup released the 47/47 number this morning to skew the media coverage. Gallup usually roll out their poll numbers at 12:00 pm ET. But today there were two polls. First a 3 day daily track number…..for which Gallup has not done before. That lead all the news and websites. At 12:05pm ET, Gallup released their 7 day daily track numbers. Why the change?
Great job for you all that pushed Tamron Hall to change that. It was already in their feed. Ed Schultz was saying the same thing on his radio. I tried to get through to have him correct the numbers, but didn’t succeed.
To be honest, all I saw was the 47 tied poll on the media this morning. Wasn’t till I read here that President Obama was up 5 points, that I returned to Gallup to see the 50 Obama/45 Romney poll. Thank goodness for this website!
Thank you so much because I reacted with my rant above.
UT, you and your fellow twitters deserve a great deal of thanks for on fearlessness in telling the TRUTH to the American people by challenging MSM propaganda.
The desperation among the media and the Right would be humorous if it didn’t affect reality so seriously.
When the tracking polls show a close race, then those are the polls to which they go. However, when Gallup comes out with a traditional poll that shows a close race while their tracker shows an Obama blowout, suddenly the tracking polls don’t matter. Again, it would be funny if the consequences weren’t so serious.
The livestream event has started folks!!
Gallup polling on 10/7 was Obama 57 Romney 38
That I would consider a total outlier. If it is true, then tomorrow’s Gallup will show another uptick for PBO. Much as I would like to see PBO get 57% of the vote, I don’t think that is likely. Note that if he did, the Senate would be a sure thing and the House a highly probable thing.
The jobs numbers reset the race back toward the President. Thank Heavens!
The average would never be 57. My point is, the jobs numbers clearly gave him a boost. Hopefully that is reflected in later polling.
I don’t know whether I’d poo-poo that number so quickly. Yes, it may be an outlier. But it may reflect the job numbers from Friday. Rather than people looking for an excuse to stop supporting PBO after the debate, they may have been looking for a reason to go back to him. 7.8% UE was a powerful reason to do that. We’ll see what the numbers for today tell. If they say the same thing, then we’re looking at a major shift.
Where can I find that please
Fox just posted they are tied on their site…..hahahahaaaa
EVERYONE is using the Gallup three-day poll instead of the tracking poll.
Markos has a poll out, he couldn’t wait to tweet his bullshit!
He admits that those numbers were based on Thursday and Friday only.
jovie, actually I think he sent this out so everyone does NOT freak out when the poll is released tomorrow.
Crowd shouts “Four more years!” as PBO appears at the podium
Well, Robney foreign policy speech was a dud, nobody is giving it more than 2 minutes.
But Rumsfeld LOVED it!
Are you talking about the guy who was S.O.D who help lied our country into invading Iraq? No respect for him at all.
Iowa early voting breakdown is very good-
Overall, off to a good start.
Dems are behind in North Carolina ballot requests.
That was also true of NC in 2008 . It appears that most of the NC Dems wait until election day to vote. Why, I’m not exactly sure.
Ballot requests, but NC will start actual early voting in person at one stop voting places 19 days before the election so early voting is not taking place in NC as of yet. The ballots turned in now are absentee. Once early voting starts, I think the numbers will change.
I am in NC and I know others who like me are registered independents and voting for Obama
Iowa looks good. We look like we are right on target to get 500K in early votes again this year. Ohio…not so much. That SOS changed the voting times in that state and it looks like its having an impact on the start of early voting. They can vote early but he changed the time to vote from 8-7 daily (2008) to 8-5 (2012). Now who has time to vote during the work day? This was done to discriminate against Dems with early voting. We should catch up in the last two weeks of the campaign when the early voting offices are open later from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The ruling by the courts last week to allow early voting on the last weekend before the election should help with the “souls to the polls” as well.
The Repubs have pulled every trick in the book to try and stop us from voting like we did in 2008.

When a person lies about most everything it is hard to believe anything they say or do.
My daughter-in-law’s Mother is a Republican but didn’t seem to be supportive of Romney. I saw on her facebook a picture of Romney saying she LIKES him. I asked my son if that was true because she didn’t talk like that when I saw her a couple of weeks prior and the timing didn’t seem likely she would have LIKED him as it was just when Mitt was going down after the 47% tape. All my kids and their spouses are Obama supporters. Anyhow, just yesterday I saw a facebook post by her saying how do you get something changed and off of facebook. She did not want Romney on her posts nor did she LIKE him. That was interesting as either she was embarrassed due to their questioning her or she really did not indicate in any way she wanted Romney’s campaign to show her support. Anyone hear of any of Romney’s support on facebook being done without people’s approval?
Next debate/Townhall the buzz word will be trust. You watch?
I have a friend’s Facebook page that suddenly was posting a notice on my Facebook page that she “liked” Romney on Facebook, too. I was quite surprised to see it, and to see it stuck on my page, too! Maybe it’s some kind of new Romney ad? I haven’t spoken to my friend since then, but maybe it’s actually not her fault?
Give her the benefit of the doubt – my sister a dedicated PBO supporter and volunteer also had a problem with Facebook and “liking” Romney – which she would never do. We figured out that apparently she may have hovered her mouse near the ad and it then showed up as a “like”. You can go to the ad and at the righthand side near the top, there should be an “x” that shows up that you can hit to delete the ad. I had to do this with Ryan ads that were showing up on my Facebook page.
Thanks blondegrrl -I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and look for that ‘x’. I was really disappointed that she would post something like that, and that it wouldn’t disappear off my facebook page.
Totally OT: Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman splitting after 30 years.

@hardball FACT:Romney LOST debate. Aggressive panicked LYING ≠ win. SUBSTANCE & TRUTH MATTER. If opponent is fucking up, GET OUT OF THE WAY.— Tally Briggs (@bardgal) October 08, 2012
Tally we agree because I email Matthews,Hardball, Rachel, Ed,and Chuck Todd too, I went to their facebook and I told them that I was raised to believe that the truth matter more than anything. Your word matter. I told them that any time you can declare a liar a winner something is wrong with these pundits. I don’t care if that liar is aggressive, if he is forceful, if he has style, he still is a liar, and in my book a liar is not a winner.
I saw Sam Stein this morning on Morning Joe laughing about how President Obama lost hte debate. Was very surprised at him. Joe and the Gang kept saying that President Obama should have called out Romney on his lies and that any post-debate commentary is just chatter. Sad that style in their minds is more important than substance. Only Mika briefly whispered that Romney had lied during the debate. But you know no one listens to her.
Exactly. That really sends a horrid WRONG message to our kids. Just lie, and you’ll win. fuck that.
Personal Realilty (based on own beliefs – may not be accurate), Social Reality (based on shared view of social group – may not be representative), and Academic Reality (based on testing – can be falsified). Here we share our personal and social realities – the realities we share within our social group on this site). But neither are academic reality. Academically, it appears PBO did lose the debate, based on the judgment of the American viewership. Your judgment and my judgment may be different than the population-at-large – and based on different criteria. Generally, appearances provide the primary judgments of political debates of this kind. Which are somewhat similar to virtual reality. It is not the individual with the most “truths” that necessarily win. It is the individual who appears to be the better leader – at that time. I have little doubt that PBO was displeased with his performance. And that’s what it is –performance. And I have little doubt he will approach the second debate quite differently.
Failing to be honest when things turn our differently than we would like or people do not respond in the way we would like is so important. Just as we need to address our own faults or weaknesses in order to change them, so is the case in our relationships with others. It was not PBO’s finest performance — and he will respond differently next debate. This also motivates us to do our utmost to facilitate a victory in November. PBO is the finest quality of human being and has the necessary vision we need right now of any president I have known. And that’s a long time. It’s up to him and it’s up to us. What I don’t want to do is get caught up in knee-jerk reactiveness as the tea-partiers do.
In the world I exist in, lying is considered a form of cheating. Cheating on a test will get you expelled. Lying on a resume will get you fired. Falsifying legal documents will make you a felon.
All of that should never, under any circumstances be equated with winning.
The debate was the clearest example of the Emperor’s New Clothes. No pontificating by the punditry, all generally talking about what Obama DIDN’T SAY, instead of what he DID, and absolutely NOTHING involving Romney’s nonstop lies and pathetic sweaty, speed-induced aggressive mania, will ever, in any universe lead me to the conclusion that Romney was anything more than the spoiled, bullying sociopath he is. HE WAS NAKED. PERIOD.
If the debate was a formal competition with a judge and a panel, Romney would have been disqualified. End of story. Presidential debates are not like this because it’s up to the American public to decide who “won.”
However, to say that Obama clearly lost is ridiculous. Especially when you are leaving it up to people’s own perceptions of what happened. Under normal circumstances, this is would be okay. But when you’ve got the media, whose suppose to be objective fooling, around with polls, it complicates things.
Agreed. By naked I was referring to Romney who wouldn’t have the sense to coordinate grranimals alone.
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo, Tally! As always, you expressed so well everything I felt after watching the replay of the debate. As I said in my previous comments on another thread, I am just appalled that people are declaring Romney a winner of the debate, simply because he was aggressive in telling lies and in throwing a tantrum against the debate moderator. I don’t know about any one else, but there is no way I would vote for a bully con man to be President of the United States. Absolutely, no way. Something is fundamentally wrong with the U.S. media! Otherwise, how could they knowingly declare a presidential candidate who lied repeatedly and threw temper tantrums the winner of the debate? What I am being told by our illustrious media is that it doesn’t matter that Romney lied and acted like Bully. What mattered, so they say, is that Romney was loud, aggressive, and in your face while he was lying. I think It was you (but then again it may have been Utaustinliberal, or amk, or hopefruit2, or somebody else I’ve forgotten) who said that President Obama was in no win situation. If he had decided to join Romney in the mud by aggressively and loudly calling him a serial liar who was out there conning the American people, the media would be all over him for not acting Presidential. The fact that President Obama elected to remain calm and respectful of his unworthy opponent, who he knew was lying profusely, is now considered a weakness.
They laid the bait all week with that old 2007 OBAMA SPEAKS TO BLACKS AND IS OOON NOES – BLACK HIMSELF video. They were all waiting to call him ANGRY BLACK MAN. I know that gives them a big sad.
Just because most people believed the world was flat once upon a time, didn’t make it TRUE.
“Academically, it appears PBO did lose the debate, based on the judgment of the American viewership.”
What are you basing this statement on? Presidential debates have never lived up to your definition of “academic reality” because there is no judge or panel to determine which candidate is more truthful (and thus score them accordingly). And when the polling on the outcome has been very inconsistent. And, it’s not wise to consider TV pundits have a clear representation of the American electorate.
And finally, several candidates have “lost” their debates only to win the Presidency. So, using the debates as a prediction of the victor is not wise. Obama “lost” his debates in 2008 and still became President.
It’s kind of difficult for you to say “failing to be honest” when you statement of Obama’s current debate is not concrete. It’s can’t be based on academic reality specially when testing (or in this case, polling)can be falsified. The CNN poll that came out right after the debates is a prime example of this.
oh and, ❤³.
Go ahead and speak TRUTH, nabsentia23! Personally, I don’t fault the President for refusing to be dragged in the mud by a loud talking, excitable, con man. By the way, if the majority of American people ware easily swayed by a lying and loud talking con man then I say shame on them.
Look what this idiot just said on Tumblr…I don’t know how to counter this ignorance…
Thing about this election
If Obama gets elected the people will be taken care of, but the country itself (Financial situation) will not improve, might even get worse.
If Mitt Romney wins, a LOT of people are fucked. However, the country’s financial issues will most likely improve.
that’s why I can’t say fuck Romney or any of that shit. I hate the fact that he plans on crushing the middle class and pressuring us to do more than we already are. But his plan can actually help the country in some way. I don’t know how many of you ACTUALLY listened to the debate instead of making jokes how nobody care about Romney and how much of an idiot he is, but Obama did get stumped on some questions which mainly surrounded how ObamaCare could potentially have a negative effect on the economy.
Don’t get me wrong. If I had to choose it would be Obama, but like most humans, I’m looking out for me and my fam. Being middle class, I wouldn’t want anymore pressure on me. If I were rich I wouldn’t care who won. I mean Obama would tax me more but I’d be a rich nigga I could pay. If Romney wins well atleast the country improves as a whole.
Ah Politics, fuck it all…
ROMNEY: People failing and getting fucked = less jobs = crashed economy. Which has been proven OVER AND OVER. Was this person on another planet during Bush II?
President Obama: More people WORKING = more people with MONEY TO SPEND = more people BUYING goods and services = HIGHER DEMAND for goods & services = more people getting HIRED to supply the HIGHER DEMAND = STIMULATED ECONOMY.
The biggest tragedy of that tumblr post is that is the kind of stupidity that comes with 30+ years of the GOP starving EDUCATION of FUNDS. Which is what Romney wants to do more of, so they can say, “SEE, GOV CAN’T DO IT.” So they can privatize everything and make more PROFIT.
The concern trolling on that one is almost painful. Fact is, stock market is doubled, companies are experiencing record profits, manufacturing rebounding, auto companies are on top of the world again, trade is improving. Yeah, looks like President Obama’s policies are having a really negative impact on the “financial situation” of the country. Notice, this tumblr person doesn’t offer any specifics. Not one.
They make my brain hurt.
Who wrote that crap?
And Chuck Todd.
some random idioton Tumblr who I surely hope is not of voting age.
Yeah but we knew President Obama’s policies before we viewed the debates. It was not that we were clueless or ignorant of his accomplishments. We get briefings every day all day here on TOD.
Squarepeg, sometimes there is really nothing you can do to effectively counter pure ignorance and stupidity. All I would say to the person you quoted, who makes such idiotic and contradictory statements, is: ” stupidity is not a virtue!” For example, how would President Obama tax the “middle class” more when his policy clearly states that only the income over $250,000 would be taxed at the same rate they paid under President Clinton. At the same time, Romney says he is going to cut all taxes by 20% but also eliminate tax deductions so to balance the budget. All credible studies suggest that the only way Romney would cut taxes 20% for all tax payers, increase defense spending, and be able to balance the budget is to raise taxes on the poor and the middle class. Romney promises to get rid of unspecified tax deductions. Most economist point out that the only way Romney can cut taxes 20% percent for everyone including the very wealth 1%,, increase defense spending, and balance the budget is to eliminate tax deductions for the poor and the middle class. These would include mortgage interest, property taxes, state income taxes, tuition tax credits, and earned income tax credit, all of which will nullify the so called 20% tax cuts for middle and lower class tax payers. So, for all the idiots who want to believe in a snake oil salesman, I say all power to them. But all I ask is that they not pretend to be rational voters.
Off topic but interesting Fact Check article on Obama’s numbers. Don’t know how to post it here. Can someone find it and post? It includes all the data of his presidency. Good and bad…
Was it at FactCheck.org?
I don’t need a fact check of PBO’s numbers – I trust him because I’ve seen the results of his policies in REAL LIFE.
I think our time is better spent fact-checking Mitt Romney who we are running AGAINST. Was Romney also fact checked in the article?
Wow that I imagine was pure awsomeness to see in person.

It was on the White House livestream. Maybe there will be a video posted on whitehouse.gov later.

Has this been posted regarding interview of FLOTUS by Nightline?
So, now the Pew poll says Robney by 4 points.
Polls are all over the place, nobody knows what is going on, and the media is useless!
The poll, conducted by Pew Research Center from Thursday through Sunday and released on Monday, shows Romney leading Obama among likely voters nationwide, 49 percent to 45 percent. That’s a stark contrast from Pew’s mid-September poll after both parties’ conventions, which showed Obama up 8 points among likely voters.
The dramatic 12-point swing in Pew’s poll from Obama to Romney is perhaps the strongest piece of evidence to date that the president has paid a political price for his listless performance in the Denver debate. But the complete suite of post-debate surveys from national pollsters is only beginning to emerge, and the early indications are of a less dramatic shift than Pew is showing.
12 points??? In one month???
I find that hard to believe, the President would drop 12 points in a month.
PEW #POLL GOP Weighting 33% In October Poll, up from 28% in August. That explains Romney Bump #POLLS @electoralvotes http://t.co/S84mdKHS— Jeff Gauvin (@JeffersonObama) October 08, 2012
So according to Pew poll, Romney has in one month wiped out Obama's entire 18 point advantage among women voters. Um, ok.— Michael Cohen (@speechboy71) October 08, 2012
Jovie, another skewed poll (which coveerd mostly the first 3 days post debate) which counterd more Republicans than Dems even though Dems outnumbered Republicans in the country. And among registered voters they show the two as tied.
I find it hard to believe they are tied.
PEW also changed their weightings by almost 6 points from DEM to GOP. The Likely PEW POLL went to R+3….was D+5 Prior— Jeff Gauvin (@JeffersonObama) October 08, 2012

RT @JeffersonObama: PEW POLL SIMPLY INCREASED GOP REGISTERED WEIGHTING BY 5% OVER LAST MONTH….FROM 28% to 33% #POLLS— Bobfr47 (@Our4thEstate_47) October 08, 2012
That’s the likely voter enthusiasm crap.
In other words, a Republican says, I will vote on a scale 1-10 I pick a ten.
A democrat says an 8, so they are discounted?
They keep using the “enthusiasm gap” as an excuse to change the weightings, saying Repub enthusiasm spiked after debate—–and Dems are supposedly yawning about voting, which I don’t believe at all.
Yeah..DEMS are yawning, which is why 30,000 DEMS lined up IN RAIN to see PBO at a rally the very next day, with an additional 6000 being directed to the overflow area. Meanwhile, Willard’s VA crowd was first estimated to be ~5000, then that number kept changing in the media, but never reaching more than 10,000.
We know what is going on, there is no way some poll should show such a difference base on one debate. So my bet is these pollster is full of alot of B.S. like the pundits and media have been over that debate.
Yes, #ChickenHawkMitt, 'hope is not a strategy' it is a CORE VALUE that informs #PBO's strategy of not LYING the USA into Perpetual War.— Bobfr47 (@Our4thEstate_47) October 08, 2012
One phone call a day will ensure that we put Romney away!
Often folks have contacted me via email or FB or have commented here on TOD that they are not comfortable making calls for the campaign. I completely understand their concern. It still isn’t one of my fav things to do for PBO but its one of those activities that has a really great impact. So I was thinking about this challenge to you…
Chips gets hundreds of viewers to this site each day. Can you imagine that if just 25 of them (lurkers this includes you as well) made one phone call for 6 days at the end of the week we would be responsible for 150 calls to potential voters that otherwise may not have been contacted?
So if you are willing to give it a try, please go to the OFA Call tool and join the National Call Team and make your one phone call each day. Monday – Saturday. Yes you read that correctly. Make one phone call each day 6 days a week until the election. This will only take 5 minutes out of your day and the practice will get you over your fear. Most of the time people don’t answer so you’ll be building up your courage and getting more familiar with phone banking.
You may find that it’s really not your thing but on the other hand you may find that you’re pretty good at it. It’s certainly something to think about.
TPM puts Robney up by 2.7 points today.
I find it extremely hard to swallow that Democrats are now voting for Romney after 1 perceived bad debate. That is what we call soft support! After all he has been through, now they suddenly pack everything in?
I don’t think so, but you know the media will run with it.
I agree with you 100%, jovie141
They rushed to change the numbers at TMP with the PEW 4% points. TPM is great at change their average polls when Romney gets better numbers but they take their sweet time when Pres Obama is ahead.
PEW POLL SIMPLY INCREASED GOP REGISTERED WEIGHTING BY 5% OVER LAST MONTH….FROM 28% to 33% #POLLS— Jeff Gauvin (@JeffersonObama) October 08, 2012
I don’t know who these pollsters are interviewing. I refuse to believe that people have forgotten the 47% comment already. Also what ethnic groups are being polled?
This tells you how much race lies beneath the soft support for Prez Obama. The voters give Romney chance after chance to go through his do-overs, but Prez Obama gets only one take after having slogged through our country’s financial mess. Women flock back to the aggressive liar. Rich White male is the default preferred choice in their eyes. America deserves whatever horror it has coming. I’m sick of this country!
I have to agree with zizi2. Seems like the White support for President Obama is pretty soft. Will be interesting what White voters have to say about Romney after he sends their children to fight and die in Iran. Hate to be so blunt, but after President Bush, you’d think people would be wary of ever voting for another Republican President./
Polls blah blah blah.
Watching the CT debate- Linda McMahon is a harpy…and I NEVER use that negative word to describe women.
So Romney won’t even field questions from kids?
It appears that he blew off Nickelodeon “Kids Pick the President”.
President Obama participated, but Rommey “was too busy”. Ha!
On another topic…..Mitt Romney does not understand the meaning or concept of foreign policy. He thinks it is comprised of a few messages to specific countries, rather than an overarching complex of ideas and ways to deal internationally. He thinks “foreign” policy is just the middle east, and Iran and Israel in particular. He does not recognize that there is an entire world with which the U.S. engages. What are his plans for dealing with Latin America, the Pacific, east Asia, the European Union? Foreign policy is complex, and must not be used as a club to beat other countries with. He has no idea of which he speaks, calling out President Obama’s “passivity”. He may not (probably doesn’t) understand that most of foreign policy work is done behind the scenes, not on the bright world stage. President Obama and Hillary Clinton are masters at this behind the scenes, nitty-gritty tough work. GWB was not, and look where his actions got us.
The world is a safer place today than it was four years ago, and it is thanks to the President’s hard work. Romney on the world stage scares me to death!!!
So true – Romney terrifies me because of the impact that he would have on the world. Even if we want to run away from his policies, the entire world will be impacted. This is why the apathetic people in the electorate drive me crazy! It should be a law that everyone have to vote if you want your country to be regarded as the “leader of the free world”. If you want to lead, then lead by making everyone accountable for the people who will do the leading!
These likely voter models are based in enthusiasm.
A Person that has a seven or above us very likely to vote.
Who cares if you say a nine or a ten, you can only vote once.
Thus, in a Presidential election cycle, the likely voter model is flawed.
In a midterm election, where People do not vote as much, it is a lot mire accurate.
The notion that registered voters and likely voters differ by 6-8 points, on every poll is Bullshit.
That is all!
The pollsters keep making it seem as if Dems aren’t voting unless they happen to be in the vicinity of a poll on election day. Are polled Dems really saying maybe they will and maybe they won’t, a 50/50 proposition? I would hope not, and that is hard to believe when we see the joyful enthusiasm by Obama supporters at all his events.
I do suspect the likely voter screening might be underestimating PBO’s vote. Our GOTV can help the results become more consistent with the registered voter polling.
Did Romney’s performance at the first debate erase President Obama’s four years of accomplishment? I heard a caller on the radio this morning basically pose this question, and it’s worth thinking about. She asked, “Did Bin Ladin come back from the dead? Is DADT law again? Has the Arab Spring been wiped from history? Has Obamacare ceased to exist? Are we still in recession? Are we still fighting an illegal war in Iraq?”. Just some food for thought.
i guess the voters think so. They prefer Bush III. Stockholm Syndrome
I just don’t understand it.
Apparently, some would say yes. Hopefully, the God damn night liberal news better start tearing up Robney. He deserves it. They way they slammed this President is almost unheard of, gives independents an excuse to vote Robney.
That is all!
I posted this question on the NYT this morning. Someone some time said never underestimate the stupidity of the voting public and I’m beginning to think that is true. Unbelievable that the polls would change this much–even if only for a couple of days–based on the performance we witnessed last Wednesday as opposed to all that PBO has accomplished in the last 4 years. Do these idiots realize he ended the war in Iraq and that Romney can’t wait to start another or are they so stupid they don’t even realize that? I honestly thought the support for PBO was much stronger than this. Obviously I was wrong. But we can still win this. Just remember that if these folks are that stupid the last person they talk to may be the reason they vote the way they do. So it makes that phonebanking challenge that much more important. Forward! (Sorry for the rant, I am pissed!)
You ended your rant on a positive, action oriented note, though. Better than me – I need to take a break. This stuff is getting me down.
Stay strong Theo. It is supposed to get you down. Gallup has PBO up 5. Pew has Mitt up 4. Let’s wait this out and get closer to the truth before becoming despondent. The jobs number last Friday will definitely provide a boost. After the bombardment of anti-PBO propaganda after the debate, it is understandable that Mitt would get a bounce. Most polling I have seen show that bounce to be small and shortlived, with things reverting back to pre-debate numbers over the weekend. Expect the MSM to cherry pick polls that support their desired narrative. Don’t fall for their bullcrap. They are not objective and have no desire to report facts, only anti-PBO spin.
Thanks Eric – I’m going to go silent until my perspective improves. I’m not doing anyone any favors being publicly discouraged by what the media is doing. I believe in Persident Obama – and I hate seeing him and his record getting treated like this.
This is incredibly frustrating. And one reason we need quality public schools and universities!
There’s absolutely nothing in this speech’
By Steve Benen
Of course, Romney stressed the need to “change course,” but never got around to saying what that course might be.
Josh Gerstein reported that “foreign policy experts weren’t impressed” with Romney’s vague, confused effort today.
“There’s absolutely nothing in this speech. This is a repackaging of language that has been a staple of Romney’s campaign since he threw his hat in the ring,” said James Lindsay of the Council on Foreign Relations. “If Romney has a foreign policy strategy, he still has not told us what it is. The governor is very fond of saying hope is not a strategy, but that cuts both ways. He didn’t answer two key questions: what he would do differently and why we should expect what he would to work.”
Third question: President Obama has been successful on the world stage on several fronts – why should we change?
Romney’s lazy mendacity on Obama, trade agreements
In reality, Obama has signed three trade agreements — with Panama, Colombia, and South Korea — despite the wishes of some of his own allies. This happened less than a year ago, so it’s not as if the Republican candidate (or those who write his speeches for him) can claim to have forgotten. There were even pictures of the agreements’ signing, one of which I’ve included above.
It appears, then, that Romney isn’t just telling a lie; he’s telling a lazy lie that’s easy to refute. The Republican just doesn’t seem to care whether he gets caught or not — he’s “not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers” — in effect thumbing his nose at those who care about reality.
And in all likelihood, Romney will pay no price for this blatant dishonesty, which is why he tells these falsehoods in the first place.
Indeed – Steve Benen is right. Romney’s been declared a “winner” after telling verifiable and egregious lies to 68 million people. He has been rewarded with skewed polls showing him now leading with black people in Colorado, and nationally improving. It would appear that he’s erased four years of memory from American minds, and rewritten the dictionary to redefine the meaning of the words: character, integrity, truth, reality, presidential, winning. Why should he even try to tell more complicated lies, at this point? Why go to the effort, when he gets so much return for so minimal input?
Not to bring up a controversial subject again, but I keep thinking ——what if every Dem—–every liberal talking head and every Dem on twitter and every other site—–had all united in praise of President Obama after the debate? I don’t think it would have been that hard to do. His answers were calm and smart and sensible. Romney was manic and lying like a mad man. What if we had all had Obama’s back and shut that Romney “win” messaging down on the spot. It would never had spread throughout the media and become widely accepted as fact. It would at least have produced doubt about who really won. I think Dems failed Obama on this one.
I’m watching Hardball with Chris Matthews. He’s still moaning about the President’s lost first debate. I don’t think some on the left are going to get over what happened on Wednesday night.
Why isn’t Matthews groaning about Romney’s incessant lying? Which isn’t he going on about how Romney has taken lying to a new height not seen in the last 50 years?
Yes, it’s clear that some on the left won’t get over it, but they will never be happy. They are still waiting for that invincible liberal/progressive to arrive on horseback and save the day. Meanwhile, Obama can still win this thing despite his “lost.” It’s what he did in 2008 and several candidates (from both parties) have done the same.
For somebody who was supposedly involved in politics, I’m surprised that Matthews is hung up that this one debate and not looking at the wider strategy. Once again, Matthews is demonstrating why I gave up on him a long time ago.
They definitely failed. I haven’t heard a single Dem congress person calling out Romney for his lies. That said, I have stayed far away from the media since the debate, so it may very well be happening. But, given the polls, the posts I’m seeing here today, the stuff happening on twitter – I have to believe that Dems are missing in action.
I’m not sure if this is President Obama’s saying,or if it’s been around for a while, but it’s certainly true that “Democrats are expert at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory”. But, I also hold out hope that we’re being spun by the media, and that the stories we’re hearing on the ground from phone bankers and other grass roots activists are the true story. It has to be.
We have not forgotten the disrespect Mitt Romney show to us at the NAACP convention. Then he goes that same day to tell a bunch of donors that some people all they want is free stuff from the Government. No matter what the media thinks, blacks have not forgotten this. Women have not forgotten the attack on women and their rights.
Media Whitewash Dishonesty From Romney’s Foreign Policy Speech

Truth About Jobs
By PAUL KRUGMAN
None of this should be taken to imply that the situation is good, or to deny that we should be doing better — a shortfall largely due to the scorched-earth tactics of Republicans, who have blocked any and all efforts to accelerate the pace of recovery. (If the American Jobs Act, proposed by the Obama administration last year, had been passed, the unemployment rate would probably be below 7 percent.) The U.S. economy is still far short of where it should be, and the job market has a long way to go before it makes up the ground lost in the Great Recession. But the employment data do suggest an economy that is slowly healing, an economy in which declining consumer debt burdens and a housing revival have finally put us on the road back to full employment.
And that’s the truth that the right can’t handle.
Women and black voters have fallen in love with Willard. That’s what some pollsters are trying to sell. Hold onto your wallets.
Pollsters now peddling that women & African Americans have fallen in love with #UnhingedMitt. Believe that, DM me. Got a cool bridge to sell— Bobfr47 (@Our4thEstate_47) October 08, 2012
This is one black women who has not fallen for Willard bull by any means.
Do. Not. Believe. Pew. For One. Minute. Also. Too. Media. Trying. To. Rattle. Us.
I don’t know what sickens me more: that Pew, which I always considered a reputable pollster, suddenly found 8% more Republicans since the summer, or that what Pew found is actually true. Truly, this country deserves what it gets if Pew’s numbers are accurate. All I know is that I just signed up for a phonebank on Saturday. #FORWARD
I mentioned last week that we were heading into the period where the polls will be tightening and things will be in flux. Pew is reputable but, honestly, this does seem like an outlier. We’ll just have to see how this plays out this week. There are lots of things in flux, including overplayed Dem freakout, but we have to keep moving forward in earnest. So thank you for signing up for a phonebank. We all need to follow suit, PRONTO.
We won’t know it’s an outlier until more non-daily tracking polls are released. It’s possible it is … and maybe the next FOX poll or CNN poll or NBC poll shows Obama leading. But until then, unfortunately, the media has its shiny new object to play with.
Pew like any poll can be ACCURATE if they do the poll properly which this hardly seems the case.
Ya know LL, I don’t even care if this is an outlier, which I think it is. How can people forget so quickly exactly what he walked in to and all that he has accomplished? GM, healthcare reform alone which how many presidents had tried to do for how many decades? I personally cannot imagine any woman who doesn’t want to be dominated ever voting for a republican in their lifetime after what we have witnessed the last year. It is so disappointing to see the support is so soft. I do think the polls will swing back as evidenced by Gallup but it is disheartening. On another note, it is extremely easy to do phonebanking from home with the online tools on the OFA website. I often do it in the evening in my pj’s:-)
Oh, I’m a data guy. I’m just not good on the phone. But OFA needs us data nerds as well.
The same way Gore in 2000 was punished for what some cooked up. With the Rehnquist Court’s help and FL Harris, We had GW Bush. But I don’t believe that will happen here. So I am not buying into this.
The only thing that is funny to me is back in Aug or early Sept, there was a poll from Bloomberg or so that had the president leading by 11/13 percentage points. The media made sure that they deemed that poll as an outlier. So how come, not one media network has asked if this PEW poll could be an outlier?

Looks like the media and the polls are going the Harry S Truman route when they predicted that Dewey would defeat Truman.
We all know how that turned out!
Ignore the polls and the media and VOTE!
someone should do a poll to find out how many Americans ever heard of most of these polls……..My guess is most heard of Gallup and that is about it..
Most have heard of Gallup true… They’ve been around the longest but again most of the polls seem to have suspicious sounding names like We Ask America, or Gravis Marketing. Both have been proven to be dubious to the point people question why they are even used at all.

H L Menken (b. 1880) said “”No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”
THAT was the quote I was thinking of but couldn’t find in my memory bank:-) Thank you!

Holy cow…that is a viscous ad.
Is it bad that I like that PBO is now the underdog? I’ve always thought he fought better as a “counter puncher.” I feel more confident now the meme is all “Obama is doomed.” It makes me even that much more sure we’ll win. There is nothing I quite like more than PBO delivering a silent F U to the media and his opponents by tripping them up and making them all look like asses. I really hope WIllard enjoys his new found fame, cause that’s the closest he’ll ever be to the presidency.
ps- fuck the polls. what’s up with all these polls. there’s a new one out every 10 seconds. Do they take polls every time PBO and That Freak take a dump? fuck the polls.
Hear Hear! I agree 100 percent!
This close to the election? No one can afford to be the underdog. Voters are already voting in some key swing states … we can’t be the underdog this late in the game. If that narrative sets in, it will follow him through election day and he will lose.
just checked nate silver’s “now cast” this very second. he has president obama with a 89% chance of winning to mittbot’s 11%. wait, now who’s the underdog?
Most likely doesn’t include today’s polls. He usually updates in the evening. That said, unless we see polls showing a change in the swing states, this is still somewhat meaningless.
I doubt that.
POTUS is no underdog, he will win this election. I believe that from the bottom of my heart.
anniebella, no one said he wouldn’t win. In fact I clearly stated that I’m quite confident he will win.
There’s Fineman and his always mysterious sources (I suspect they reside in his head) throwing gas on the fire, trying to promote dissension in the ranks of the Obama campaign—–that the Chicago guys ——they all love to say “Chicago” as if Al Capone was still running wild there—-gave Obama different advice just before the debate than the debate prep guys had given him. This debate subject is just getting so dragged over the coals—–because the entire media seems to love talking about it.
I haven’t watched MSNBC for some time lately. I have however very guiltily go on huffington post, it’s a horrible habit that I need to rectify.
Oh gawd, here comes the predictable media BS dump. Later, guys.
My idea on the polls……each one is a snapshot, and that snapshot changes. I do not for one minute believe that women and AA’s have deserted President Obama. I do not see the President’s campaign panicking. I will get concerned when I see them running around scared and making all sorts of new campaign appearances in places we’ve never heard of. If you remember four years ago, the polls were this crazy about a month out. The Press LOVED McCain, and every crazy word Palin uttered was on the screen over and over and over. I so remember pictures of her in those red high heels and red leather jacket screaming about “palling around with terrorists.” The Obama campaign just kept working.
I am sure even now, they are discreetly planning the election night victory celebration. We will not know about their polling until right before the election, and they are always right on.
Remember, there is a new shiny object for the press this week…..the VP debate. There will be whole new talking points after this. Events come fast and furiously now, and this is what the press likes: new toys. And Romney’s “foreign policy’ speech is truly a dud. So……until OFA begins to panic, I’m not going to, and I urge everyone on this blog to take a deep breath and follow the British motto: KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON..
On another note I want to tell you how impressed I am with the OFA. Last Friday I made a “quick donate” donation to OFA. Evidently I hit a submit button twice, because my bank statement showed two deductions. Well….that susprised me, but I thought, okay, I’ll budget that much this month. It was not a small donation. THEN…..Saturday morning I got another thank you note for the same amount from Rufus Gifford, and I knew I had not donated gain, then Saturday night when we got home from the symphony, I had ANOTHER thank you note for a donation in the same amount! Well, that quadrupled my donation, and that was OUT of my budget. I didn’t sleep well that night, wondering if someone had hacked my account. So….I saw the email address to write with donation questions. I did so Sunday. Today I received an answer, and the three donations I had not authorized will be refunded to my account within three business days. I thanked them, and told them that because of their swift action I would probably make another donation this month……just one.
So, this campaign is excellently run, and honest. I trust them to get this president elected with our help.
Obama 2012 and lets keep the pressure to get people to vote the president in! We can’t lose this election damnit!
I think if people go back to pre-debate commentary here, you’ll be reminded that pretty much everyone said that no matter the outcome of the debate, the media would declare Willard the winner, that he’d get a bump in the polls, and the media would get their horse race. Now that all that has come to pass, why are people upset? This is all very predictable.
Lots of chickenlittle comments around here this afternoon. Grow a pair and work the Low Unemployment, Lies, and Big Bird narrative. You knew this was going to happen! The MSM is way to predictable.
Obama 2012! No more poll digging! Lets get to work on getting PBO re-elected and forget the whiny MSNBC!
always amazing to me to see how easily manipulated people can be. and even here where most people are much more enlightened about political issues than much of the general public, yet still go absolutely insane at the slightest hint of a problem, whether real or made-up. must we have to go through the same thing every time?!? president obama would like to have a word with you chicken littles…time to take of your bedroom slippers:

Lets not freak about the polling. Most of it due to increased GOP enthusiasm, not so much switched votes.
