Miami Herald: From a Florida Democratic Party email: …. September is the 8th consecutive month that Democrats have out-registered Republicans …. registered 18,063 more voters than Republicans, beating them by 16-percent …. they had a nearly 30-percent registration advantage with Hispanics. Overall, Democrats are beating Republicans in Hispanic registration by roughly 10-points.
In September, Democrats had a 21-percent registration advantage with women. Overall, Democrats are beating Republicans in women registration by roughly 10-points….
Florida’s September voter registration data shows Democrats’ most impressive month yet: we’ve out-registered the GOP in Florida by over 16-percent in September, with over 43,000 new Democrats on the rolls.
Florida Democrats have built the strongest, largest ground game this state has ever seen – we are entering the final month in a strong position to win Democratic victories up and down the ticket.
Thank you for your handwork and support. We’ve got 29 days to bring it home and we can’t let up now.

Here’s a poll that probably won’t get much attention

****
Deaniac83 (The People’s View): Last week, we talked a little bit about the Right’s attempt to play the refs by complaining that pollsters were polling too many Democrats – where in fact, the numbers were justified by both the Democrats’ registration advantage and last presidential election’s voting patterns. So what did our national media and pollsters do? They quickly groveled at the feet of the loud screeching noise-makers, of course.
Today, for example, there is a Pew poll out showing Mitt Romney has taken a lead in national polling of likely voters, 49-45, a full 11-point swing since the same poll from two weeks ago. Did the debate make all the difference? Don’t be silly. Here’s what really happened: Pew polled fewer voters altogether, and, they acquiesced to the wingnut browbeating and entirely took away the Democratic registration advantage documented in actual voting in 2008, registration data, and well, their own previous polling. Here, in a nutshell, is what really happened….

Dana Milbank: …. Scrubbing one’s brain clean of previous positions has been Mitt Romney’s stock in trade. In fact, his foreign-policy speech Monday to the Virginia Military Institute was one long gargle-and-rinse of the candidate’s previous positions.
Last year, Romney called the Obama administration’s intervention in Libya “mission creep and mission muddle.” On Monday, he accused Obama of declining to use “America’s greatest power to shape history”…. Last year, Romney said American troops “shouldn’t go off and try to fight a war of independence for another nation …. On Monday, he spoke of that same conflict as a matter of the utmost national importance…. Last year, Romney reversed his earlier support for the Iraq war …. On Monday, he was back to his original view….
Just a few months ago, Romney said “there’s just no way” to achieve peace between the Israelis and Palestinians because Palestinians are “not wanting to see peace.” …. On Monday, he said he would “recommit America to the goal of a democratic, prosperous Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security” with Israel.
Rub-a-dub-dub! Four positions got scrubbed.

NYT Editorial: Mitt Romney mounted a big foreign policy display on a flag-draped stage at the Virginia Military Institute on Monday, serving up a lot of tough-sounding sound bites and hawkish bumper stickers, some of them even bumping up somewhere close to the truth, to give the appearance that he would be stronger and more forceful on international affairs than President Obama.
He seems to consider himself, ludicrously, a leader similar to the likes of Harry Truman and George Marshall, and, at one point, he obliquely questioned Mr. Obama’s patriotism. The hope seems to be that big propaganda, said loudly and often, will drown out Mr. Obama’s respectable record in world affairs, make Americans believe Mr. Romney would be the better leader and cover up the fact that there is mostly just hot air behind his pronouncements.
…. Americans deserve an intensive, textured and honest discussion on foreign policy. They did not get it on Monday. Mr. Obama should respond, forcefully, to Mr. Romney on these issues, even before their next debate on Oct. 16, which will include issues of foreign affairs.

The Fact Checker (Washington Post): We will leave analysis of the GOP presidential nominee’s major foreign-policy address to the pundits, though we were pleased to see that he did not repeat his frequent claim that Obama “apologized” for America — a phrase we and other fact-checkers have long debunked.
Still, we were interested in his assertion about the size of the Navy. Is the Navy really in the worst shape it has been in 96 years?
…. The Pinocchio Test: This is a nonsense fact. In his counting of ships, Romney equates gunboats with aircraft carriers and torpedo boats with nuclear-powered submarines. For such an important speech, one would think the candidate would resolve to use the most relevant facts possible.

Just noticed you already posted this, Chips.
Good Morning all. Just wanted to pop in before heading to the Board of Elections office by my house in Delray Beach. Today is the deadline to turn in voter registration forms. I have a hand full and am so proud to be part of the Grassroots here in Florida. Everywhere you go, you see WOMEN with clipboards registering voters. In front of the Grocery store, in front of the Target, in the post office, in front of the Library. We will go Blue again.
I have also pledged to drive several to the polls over our “shorter span of early voting”! WE are Fired Up! We are ready to go!
Me too, we are on the ground here in Florida and we ate not demoralized like the media says we are. We are a strong grassroots operation.
Good job!
Proud, I’m so glad you capitalized the WOMEN with the clipboards in your post. The women are bringing it this election–in our county we make up the bulk of the phone bankers and the canvassers. Women will not forget in November.
That’s right, JG, Women Will Remember In November! (and September and October as well!)
I’m SO proud of all the hard work you’ve done to make this election another great success. WOW, now this is what patriotism looks like! BRAVA!!
The media is trying to mind-Fuck us all into submission. This is the new swiftboat, to try and program you into believing that the President is losing.
Its obviously a pre mediated plan.
Jovie from the good news about Florida Democratic registrations in September, the media isn’t succeeding. Congratulations on being part of that heroic effort.
Thanks Jovie and others for your dedication of moving Florida forward.
I mailed my absentee ballot today and you can verify with the Supervisor of Elections of receiving your ballot. Cost 1.30 to mail.
Also, just to make a point for us Floridians, please vote early and by absentee if possible. The forms are so long and they require a lot of reading. The three judges on the ballot for retention appears to be solid, so we shall retain them. Also, the changes to the constitution, you may direct voters to the League of Women Voters web site to get help. They are suggesting NO for all 11 changes. Then you have the charters to address. The lines will be long in Florida and I am hoping our voters don’t get discouraged from all the reading that needs to be done in order to cast your vote. Thanks for listening.
Very strong rebuke in NY Times Editorial about Romney’s (foreign) Foreign Policy. Well worth the read.
Excellent Berny, added it to the post – thannk you.
OMG Sheila E is one of the pics! Whooo!
Hey Chips, do you expect us to read/watch ALL the news you bring our way BEFORE you bring the next installment?
Some of us (ME) are slow readers/watchers! I suppose I’m supposed to interpret that as your having a whole lot of confidence in us, but truly it just looks like ………. Oops! Ahem! THANK you Ms Chips for such a terrific news start to my Tuesday! I am most appreciative of your efforts and dedication. (gulp!)
Dia uit, CC! Love you whole bunch! Have a GOOOOD day!
{{{{{VC}}}}}. !
A very ‘Good Morning’ to you, Miss Pamela! Have you had your morning ‘cup o’tea’, yet?
Cup and saucer in hand, dear! Trying to to spill or spew over the laughter at Big Bird!
Btw, how much do we love the stunner photo of our VPOTUS? Mmmm,Mmm,Mmm … What a gorgeous guy!
*not to
Good luck with the no spilling goal! Willard should get SOME credit for setting off such high humour; I’d ‘appreciate’ him more if only he didn’t have such a grandiose ambition and idiots with money AND airtime to pump him up.
Myth gets no credit at all from me, the laughter is from “it’s me! Big Bird!” in that adorable voice, then closing with BB snoring away in his nest cuddling his Teddy! Also major kudos for the overlay of BB on the towers, that was awesome! Myth Robney is a real nobody, a big stupid nobody. The fact that he has so much ill-gotten money is what makes him dangerous.
Oh I didn’t think you were laughing at Mitt; I know how you feel about him. I was only thinking that if he hadn’t set his sights on PBS & BB, the latter wouldn’t have stepped into the political arena.
Poor Chris Matthews…..he is in denial ….did you all see this ? He was a little bent out of shape about how SNL showed him after the debate.
About the 5 minute mark… and of course Nia Malika said he ” never interrupts anyone ”
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/ns/msnbc_tv-hardball_with_chris_matthews/#49335429
Actually I thought he loved it. He showed a couple of different clips of them parodying him. Now if we can just get SNL to parody Andrew Sullivan’s meltdown on twitter last night:))
Andrew Sullivan is proving to be the ever so ‘fragile’ annoyance at this point in time. He and so many supporters/frenemies,(for with loyalists like these), are so busy frantically hammering their detrimental mouths and fingers to paper that they are refusing to think things through whilst dissecting who they should be dissecting,i.e the Sheister Mitt. There are times when I can put up with Sully’s volatile writings and links to the convicts, but for now, let’s just leave him like a child to wind himself down, followed by appeasing his readers by admitting his meltdown.
Ok, I want everyone here to do one thing this morning. Listen to this song.
It’s called Breathe, made in 2007 by Jill Scott. It was a song I listened to on days in the 2008 campaign when there were days like this. Where the whole world, or just the mainstream media, seemed against us. Its better if you listen to it while turning off your T.V. Just open up your mind and let it go free while listening to this tune.
Look folks, we know the media has wanted a Romney comeback story ever since the man clinched the 2012 Republican nomination. While I am a little rattled that it is coming a month before election day, I am not deterred. We know it was going to be hard the second go round, maybe even harder than the first. Today, you will see Republicans gleefully change their talking points the way that Romney changed positions in that debate and give performances that would make the late Laurence Olivier proud. They will do the reverse of what they did last week, and kiss that pew poll like they gave birth to it, and they did. For two weeks, they worked the refs, working the media, working the polling companies, and working us. And the so called liberal talkers also aided in this endeavor. I am still pissed at the MSNBC liberal linup sans Al Sharpton and Lawrence O’ Donnell. They helped to portray Romney as Reagan while President Obama as Quayle, even though we all saw differently. We see in polls that the crosstabs had been finangled into showing more southern white voters than the whole U.S. and thats how Romney is suddenly in the lead. The media is manufacturing this whole thing so much, because they wanted to tell a new story instead of just reporting as they should always have done.
What we need to do is go out, volunteer, make calls, go door to door, and make sure that our families and friends are registered to vote. We cannot focus on winning a news cycle, because doing that, we always lose. We did the former in 2008, let the Republicans win the news cycle, which by the way put the focus all on them, and let them fall down to earth. We, on the other hand, racked up our plays, our voters and at the end of the day, won the election. That is the winner for us. Don’t worry about the next debate. Rest assured, the Obama campaign is prepping the Vice President as well as the President for the next one and a pyrric win like Romney had won’t come by again. We need to do what I said above though.
What we need to do is not despair or panic, but do as the song says, just breathe.
Excellent sly!
Good advice, Slyfox. The Republicans always play this game. It’s a psychops, designed to rattle us. It’s time to move on. We’ve got work to do.
So So True. Forward!
You ailed it. The President has always said this election would not be easy and we would have to work hard and GOTV. But we have the ,n, the vision, the community. Si se puede!
Wowee, Chips, what a way to start the day! {{{{{{Chipsticks}}}}}}}

I bet we won’t hear too much about this poll today, Dotster
No Chipsticks this kind of poll don’t fit into their agenda.
Exactly Anniebella, we won’t hear too much about it today.
I wouldn’t have known about this poll except for here. When I click on wapo online front page I don’t see this poll. What I see is them touting the Pew Poll. So this poll definitely needs to be tweeted out.
Good morning chips and todville
congrats desertflower on 1st
Here’s something I was really surprised about in all the hullabaloo about recent polls and cross tabs etc. The Hispanic/Latino percentage of the electorate in ’08 was only 9%. I keep reading about this growing population, heading toward a majority, and they were only 9% of the electorate? That just doesn’t make sense to me.
Dotster, the Latino effect kicks in in certain states or parts of states. California, Florida, TX and other states have whopping Latino populations. In PA, the Latino bulge is occurring the southeastern sector. The pace of growth here is faster than any population sector. While the overall population of Latinos in our city is 11 percent, the school’s population is 44 percent. That’s the future. The problem has always been that Latinos don’t vote and that is why the GOTV has got to be so potent. In our area we are focusing on the wards and precincts with large Latino populations and are recruiting as many Spanish speaking volunteers as possible to hit these areas from now until election day. When Latinos collectively start participating in elections in a big way, the electoral consequences in this country will be enormous.
dotster, two things. The first is the Latino population is not heading toward a majority, but the non-white population will be the majority in the future. Not there yet.
Secondly, the Latino population historically has a lower turnout than other groups, even for Presidential year elections. However, all reports are that this year, the Latino population is more energized to vote and a higher peercentage will turn out. That is another problem with a lot of the polling. They are still viewing the minority vote, including Latino, to not increase over 2008, and some polls are predicting a decrease. The latter is due to the fact that they believe the AA community won’t be as energized. I think those who think that are in for a surprise come 11/6.
I freaking LOVE this OFA Big Bird ad! How am I going to stop watching it so I can get ready for work! I imagine PBO is lhao, and that is GOOD!
Love it!
I’m with you, Pamela…love it! Even though I’d already watched it once, the second time saw me wishing I didn’t have a beverage in my mouth. It’s hysterical and a much needed break from all the seriousness of this campaign. I think it very cleverly taps into the absurdity of Willard and his cronies even bringing up taking away money from PBS. Like it somehow drives the deficit and needs to be addressed with utmost haste. Brilliant.
Head’s Up PA voters!!! http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/10/09/974291/at-least-five-pennsylvania-counties-still-falsely-tell-voters-that-they-need-id-to-vote/
Go to the polls armed with the FACTS!!
DF, I honestly believe these errors are largely due to the slow updating of the websites. In our county, the website lags weeks behind in updates. That’s why my husband and have put together a weekly newsletter mailed to about 500 Dems in the county who have indicated a desire to volunteer. These are on the ones on the phones and on the streets and these are the ones who will be doing GOTV. This newsletter keeps up to date with every major news item and every OFA event. It works. The response has been great. Some counties just don’t have the staff to keep up regular communication.
Good morning everyone.
Great find. Japan and China’s dispute over territory is leading to both economies dragging each other down. A huge win for PBO and Dems back in charge this Election will solidify that the US is DEFINITELY back and moving forward on a strong platform. It will be a Tremendous boost worldwide.
Woooooot!
Michael (?) Milliband (a member of the Labor Party in the UK) was on Charlie Rose’s show (PBS) last week, talking about this. He is perplexed that the US citizens don’t know that they are “better off than four years ago”…real news…this is one of the reasons why the repubs really want to get rid of PBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
President Obama honoring this amazing man was beautiful and don’t discount how it appears to all of our Hispanic-American brothers and sisters. I absolutely LOVED the pictures of President Obama with the wonderful Mrs. Chavez.
And all the people who came out to see the president…that pic makes me smile.
The Big Bird ad is funny
I love that ad. Hope it runs nationally.
A very pleasant and hearty Good Morning to Ms Chips and the TOD family.
I am here for inspiration and upliftment, therefore I am looking forward to your comments to do just that. Let’s all please take a deep breath and instead go for changing the narrative constructively and positively. Let’s dissect the only person that needs dissecting,Willard the schizoid. Come on folks…we the people. No more backward. Today is a new day. Onward,Forward! Let’s go,people.
might be a good time for this reminder…we all have one month left, the only month left, that any of us for the rest of our lives will be able to campaign for president barack hussein obama. he won’t be running for elected office, ever, ever again after these next 30 days.
if someone chooses to spend these historic 30 days being led around by republican-created and media-fueled fake narratives, then that’s their problem and mlk jr., rosa parks, cesar chavez would be ashamed of the people who choose to do that.
another choice each of us can make is to “take off the bedroom slippers and put on your marching shoes” as our president told the congressional black caucus in a speech, and focus and work harder than you ever have in your life to make sure this incredible president of the ages wins easily, and as importantly gets a congress controlled by democrats.
right now, the last month ever you can work for president obama’s election…i know what i’m choosing. you in?
amen, 4more.
Great comments. This nonsense about the president’s debate performance is manufactured BS by the media. You’d think he admitted to an affair with Hillary Clinton. Most people who live in the real world are not paying attention to their nonsense anymore. They have to go to work, take care of their families, etc. It’s like the Sunday football games. If their team wins, great. If not, there’s next week but they don’t give up on the team.
Careful Diane – the media will pick up on that one – really quickly!
With a lot of people online – so-called Obama supporters – piling on.
Yep. In.
Right on!
Handwringing, poll-gazing, Chicken-Littling, and other assorted useless, non-productive behavior is NOT FOR ME.
Things are too real, and time is too short for that. I appreciate my President and the LEAST I can do is refuse to be freaked out. That’s the LEAST I can do. That being said, I’m gonna continue my giving and working for an Obama and Democratic Victory across the country.
#FORWARD
Yeah, I’M IN!
And, you know why…. Because…
Nancy A. Heitzeg’s WE HAVE MADE THE CHOICE
…WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE, WHEN YOU PICK UP THAT BALLOT TO VOTE, YOU WILL FACE THE CLEAREST CHOICE OF ANY TIME IN A GENERATION… AND ON EVERY ISSUE, THE CHOICE YOU FACE WON’T BE JUST BETWEEN TWO CANDIDATES OR TWO PARTIES. IT WILL BE A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT PATHS FOR AMERICA. A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT VISIONS FOR THE FUTURE. ~ PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, DNC 2012
…Historians will someday wonder about the events that turned the tide.
Some will point to the errors of the opposition. And surely, there were many.
The too visible, too virulent, racism and misogyny of the far right. The bullying. The outright admission that the Election could simply be sold to the highest bidder.
The Entitled Animal Abusing Opportunist at the top of the ticket who, with his less than charming wife, holds nothing but contempt for half of the American public, who uses pain, death and destruction as “political ” ploys. The Arrogant Ayn Rand Upstart who thought he could get away with telling nothing but the Biggest Lies.
The Disheveled Old Man ranting at an Empty Chair.
Yes.
But the Choice is not just rooted in rejection, it is the embrace of a bolder vision. A vision articulated by a regenerated Democratic Party who, with witness, authenticity and arithmetic, now clearly states the case.
BARACK OBAMA HAS ALWAYS CALLED US TO THAT VISION. IT IS AT THE CORE OF WHO HE IS, WHO HE ALWAYS HAS BEEN, WHO HE HAS ALWAYS SAID HE WAS — A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER WHOSE CIRCLE JUST EXPANDED FROM A NEIGHBORHOOD TO A NATION. HE WANTED TO BE PRESIDENT — STILL WANTS TO BE PRESIDENT – BECAUSE THE BETTER AMERICA STILL MUST RISE.
And despite the doubters, HISTORY WILL WRITE THAT BARACK OBAM WAS A MASTER OF THE LONG GAME AND PLAYED A CRUCIBLE ROLE IN TURNING THAT PAGE.
HE REMINDED US OF HOPE AND THE OPTIMISM OF UNCERTAINTY. HELPED US REWRITE THE BOOKS ON WHAT WAS POSSIBLE. REDEFINED WHAT IT MEANT TO BE AN “ICONIC” BLACK AMERICAN, A STORY NO LONGER TETHERED TO SOME PINCHED WHITE ALLUSIONS TO ATHLETES/ENTERTAINERS NOR TO THE TRAGIC SACRIFICE OF THE REVERAND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
BARACK OBAMA NOT ONLY MADE IT OVER THE MOUNTAIN TOP – HE WILL HAVE HIS FACE METAPHORICALLY CARVED ON IT. HE WILL LIVE LONG AND PROSPERr.
HISTORY WILL MARK HIM NOT AS JUST THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, BUT ONE OF THE GREATEST PRESIDENTS OF ALL TIME.
Period. No qualifiers.
And, so it now is possible for all those –once at the margins — to stand proudly in the center.
BARACK OBAMA CALLS US — SUPPORTERS AND CYNICS, ALLIES AND SELF-APPOINTED ENEMIES — TO MAKE THE AMERICA DREAM REAL. HE CALLS US TO THE LONG HARD WORK OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, COMMUNITY, AND A POLITICS WHERE WE THE PEOPLE ARE PARTICIPANTS NOT PASSIVE OBSERVERS.
BARACK OBAMA HAS OPENED THE DOOR AND WE ARE GOING THROUGH IT, A RUSHING RAINBOW TORRENT THAT CAN NO LONGER BE STOPPED.
…BETWEEN NOW AND NOVEMBER 6, 2012, WE WILL DO EVERYTHING WE NEED TO.
We will not be distracted by the blatant lies and obfuscation.
We will not be lulled into the complacency of over-confidence or suppressed into the despair of not voting at all.
We will re-double our commitment — we will call, we will canvass, we will register new voters, we will GOTV.
We will not be deterred by “poll watchers” or new jim crow suppression efforts.
WE WILL VOTE.
And Our Votes will be Counted. All of them.
WE WILL DO ALL THIS – AND SOON MORE! – WITH HARD HOPE AND FAITH AND LOVE. SECURE IN THE KNOW THAT WE ARE ON THE CUSP OF THAT LONG MORAL ARC, AND ARE FINALLY, BENDING MUCH CLOSER TO JUSTICE.
Yes.
WE HAVE ALREADY CHOSEN…
AND, WE ARE GOING FORWARD.

The story that is emerging is that the Friday Job numbers trump the debate. Polling after Friday shows swing back to the President.
Everyone really should read this.

The msm will continue to ignore the good polling on POTUS and continue to push to goofy polls, plus they are all still obsessed with the debate. Though they watched a different debate than I did.
Did you see Barnicle yell at Meeka this morning, when she said Women care about Womens issues?
He yelled and said, but they also care abou the price of gas and groceries and jobs.
Meeka just sat there!
I leave the tv off until 4 PM….
No I didn’t.

WASHINGTON — As the Soviet Union splintered in the early-1990s, Sushovan Ghosh packed his colleagues into a van and chugged across the collapsing nation, hitting depressed towns and famished cities, busted up factories and lonely kiosks. In each ragged destination, they stopped long enough to interview cigarette smokers.
Ghosh plied the citizenry with free cigarettes and, sometimes, McDonald’s hamburgers.
They were pursuing a lucrative target: determining what Russian smokers wanted out of a cigarette — specifically, a Western cigarette. “We had to develop a brand the Russians would smoke,” Ghosh explained to The Huffington Post. For one study, they interviewed more than 1,000 smokers. “We stopped the bus and offered them cigarettes. And they all queued.”
Ghosh’s work for cigarette companies was chaotic, unbridled and, ultimately, deadly. To Mitt Romney and his colleagues at Bain & Co., it was a chance to rake in money. Ghosh said he reported directly to Romney, who was excited about the Russian market. “He was my boss,” Ghosh said.
At the time, Romney was CEO of Bain & Co., the Boston-based consulting firm that launched his white-collar career and led him into the high-stakes world of corporate buyouts. Although Romney’s activities helming the private equity giant Bain Capital have drawn significant attention, his role at Bain & Co. has received almost no public scrutiny. A Huffington Post investigation into Bain’s tobacco work found that the consulting firm helped Philip Morris increase its revenues in the U.S., and aided two other tobacco titans as they vied to move forcefully into the Russian market.

Great find DF, what a pathetic pile of crap.
See y’all later, heckuva day facing me, will do my best to peer inside the pages of Chips work! {{{TOD}}}
for the next 30 days and to those WORKING for president obama’s re-election, from another magical time and day:
Big Bird ad is lovable – fabulous – and awesome. He better be around for my granddaughter – with PBO – definitely can lose Mitt the twit.
.
wow. that is good, and it’s an official one too with PBO approving. interesting move to take that tone, and i think a winner!
On Tuesday, President Obama travels to Ohio where he will speak at a campaign event at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. According to the campaign, Obama will “lay out his plan to move America forward and will encourage supporters to register to vote and vote early.”
Rasmussen has us tied nationally and 48-48 and up 1 in Ohio and Colorado 49-48.
That’s Rasmussen, so it’s probably at least 1-2 points better than that, at least.
Ooooh, I believe it’s Marlz’s birthday today? As requested:
Have a perfect day Marlz!
Love this picture of PBO. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARLZ!
It is Bo Obama’s birthday too.
Happy Birthday Marlz. And Happy Birthday Bo.
I’m taking a break from the polls today.
Happy Birthday, Marlz and Bo and anyone else here who has this day as their birthday!! Fired Up!!
Happy Birthday MARLZ!!! Have a great day!
Happy Birthday Marlz!!
HAPPY, HAPPY Birthyday, Marlz! Savor the day and all the gifts in your life!
Morning TOD. FYI. Listening to my morning talk radio about efforts to get last day registrants, and the subsequent election. Points made: registering high schoolers as they end their school day- about 11 high schools in Philly; if True the Vote- that morbid Tparty effort to trouble voters on Nov 6-comes out, NAACP has arranged for the Nation of Islam to counter them, and they do not play; the effort in Philly is being broadcast hopefully all day, which is being held in part by Rev Al’s National Action Network, and will be registering until 11:30 PM today.
Glad the NAACP plans to stand up to the Tparty. We can not let those hateful pigs intimidate people.
Whaaaaaaat ….. just catching up on comments that are about, oooh, 24 hours old….. did I miss Jackie 4 Obama’s birthday????
Yes you did but no worries. At my age, I could easily forget a few birthdays.
Ah, SO sorry Jackie, I missed most of the comments yesterday so didn’t spot the big news! Hope you had a great day – I’ll remember next year, promise!
Happy Birthday Jackie 4 Obama – Best wishes to you today & always! I am going to forget my birthdays from now on also…!!!
Happy Birthday GF!!!
How did I miss that? Happy Birthday, Jackie and Marlz!
I’ve already started to forget birthdays because I’ve had so many of them!
Happy belated, Jackie!
Jackie–Hope your birthday was a wonderful one. And I hope you get your dearest birthday wish to come true on November 6.
Happy Birthday Jackie.
It is also Bo Obama’s birthday. I think. I believe that yesterday, someone posted some pics.
Chips my B-day is 10-15. I would love a an Obama card.
I saw President Obama last night in San Francisco – in person, for the 1st time -omg!!! I didn’t know till the morning of that I had a ticket as one of the campaign volunteers. I went with two volunteers. We took the train into the city, lined up to get our tickets, stood in line for two hours outside the auditorium shouting 4 more yrs to drown out protesters’ noise, stood inside the building for another 3 hrs listening to speakers & singer John Legend before PBO came on stage. Oh my poor aching feet – but it was soooo worth it. I’m still pinching myself that I actually saw him . . . for the 1st time . . .ever . . . in my life. I’ve watched & listened to his speeches thru the years on tv/internet but nothing compares to actually seeing him in person.
How wonderful for you, especially finding out in the morning you had a ticket.
Yes, Deb! I was hoping to go but was not getting any assurances. The night before, I was told that my name wasn’t entered. So I just figured I wasn’t going. Next morning, I opened my e-mail and I was included in the group mailing list given directions where to pick up our tickets, what to bring, what not to bring, etc. Whoa hooo!!!
How wonderful for you. Congratulations.
My middle niece saw both the Obamas in 2008. My sister saw Mrs. Obama at the Charlotte NC Dem Convention. Bill Clinton is the Only one that I had seen. Oh. I did see Sen Ted Kennedy once.
Thanks Nena! What an exciting experience to actually see him!!!
It was so nice to chat with other Obama supporters – so kind, friendly, smart, & funny unlike the other camp where their supporters are mean-spirited. It would have been an added treat if I met some of the regular TODers.
Wow! I’m happy for you obamalia
Thanks Annie!!! I’m still walking on clouds.
I’m very happy for you obamalia. It sounds like you had a wonderful evening!
Yes, Donna, I had a great time!!! The auditorium was packed. We were fairly close to the stage at the standing section and many of us were dancing & singing to the music of John Legend… then PBO came on stage & wow!!! The energy & excitement was beyond amazing!!!
I do not believe that Romney got any bounce at all from the debates, just like his convention. The jobs numbers also made POTUS’s position stronger. Every poll showing Romney’s bounce shows ridiculous gains with African Americans, polled more people in the South or people over 50.. Such hogwash. If he had gotten a bounce, they would be able to provide polls with reasonable crosstabs. In fact, on Sunday Gallup had numbers of 65 for Potus and 34 for Romney, hence the big increase for POTUS in the Gallup poll yesterday. Gallup says that they are going to Likely Voters today. I believe that they are afraid to show the real effect of the job numbers. The LV will be smaller.
This situation is compounded by Romney’s dud of a speech and lies again yesterday.
Well Helllllllllo ooooOOOOOOooooo!!!!! Say woot, woot and a toot, toot on this great getting up day on the TOD train! I listened to CSPAN’s Washington Journal call-in show for a bit this morning. While I don’t agree with the subject matter (does the candidate’s spouse effect your vote), I must say FLOTUS came out ahead, imo. Ann was not nearly as well liked, by Repubs, as FLOTUS was well liked among Dems. Just like their husbands, the Repubs were more against FLOTUS, than they were for Ann. They had the same old tired meme of telling folks how to feed their kids, blah. blah. Yet, they found little to say about Ann except she raised 5 boys. I don’t bring this here for bashing Ann (which I will no longer partake in), but as an insight to where the average voter is on the subject. The folks who call in to CSPAN are politically aware and are more involved than most.
My political take today is we don’t need no stinkin’ polls to know what we have to do. However, if we’re going to gnash about the polls when they are not in our favor, then we best not be gloating when they are. Last week, we were laughing at Repubs who were all in a flux cause they said the polls were skewed.
PS: That stuff I said about no longer partaking in bashing Ann, I lied.
“PS: That stuff I said about no longer partaking in bashing Ann, I lied.”
Okay, my mouth was hung open for a moment
Good going !!
Morning all – great stuff for tweeting, Chips! #Forward2012
Slamming a new Obama attack ad against Mitt Romney that features Big Bird, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said on Tuesday that it shows the president is out of ideas.
Oh I see!
If McCain is complaining, that means the ad is effective.
yep…Big Bird appeals to the undecides, those that are simply not interested in politics but know who Big Bird is and regardless of the reason to vote, they may well turn up to do just that for the Bird
It shows how unserious Mitt is. Everyone can relate to Big Bird.
Exactly!
Has he forgotten about his ridiculous “Celebrity’ ad alraedy?
Please note, AND SHARE, the fact that the GOP House only shows up for work to ‘clock in’ before leaving each time. IMO if we are in a mood to gripe, THIS is something worth making noise about. The other side isn’t working 1/4 as much as the President and his team. (The same video link is used in each tweet.)
I find in my calls more people express outrage against Congress, specifically the obstruction of the do nothing House Repubs, more than any other gripe.
That’s really good to hear, Dotster, and I hope it translates into an almost clean GOP sweep of those who are running. They have shamelessly abused their position for 2-4 years!
Inside the campaign: The Romney rebellion
Looks like Ann and Tagg are taking over.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1012/82160.htm
The link doesn’t work – but not worth going there – a report written AFTER the debate trying to make out Ann and Tag are the movers and shakers. It’s always easy to make up sh… in hindsight.
Ann knows absolutely nothing – not even sure her family skills are passable – given that the family seems to be 5 little cardboard Mitts. If she got into the WH she would no doubt spend 4 years redecorating & given her sense of style – what a disaster.
I like the big bird ad, but I’m a little agitated cause the campaign has had some other really good ads and you don’t see them getting any free air time on the networks. they decided to mock the big bird ad on the Today show and that’s the only air time it will get. I was reminded why I stopped watching this show months ago, and why in the world I turned it on today
I sent them a e-mail suggesting an ad about %7.8 unemployment number and an improved economy.
The mocking of the Big Bird ad is because it has resonance with parents across the country—–the utter ridiculousness of the one plan Willard revealed to cut the deficit was to slay Big Bird. That’s who should have been the target of the mocking, not the Dem ad pointing out the absurdity of what he said.
I do not watch that show EVER…
Good morning to everyone, been trying to lurk around, I received a polling call yesterday….very short…3 questions. Today I ordered the Poster Set by Anne Savage. I have 4 Obama shirts , countless bumper stickers & pens, so this will be some history for me to pass on down to daughter, grandchildren or nephews.
the Today Show is losing the rating war to GMA for the first time ever. GMA is a more pop culture centered show and with Snufalopulous (I know how to spell George’s name I just chose not too, still mad at him and Charlie Gibson for that ’08 debate) they do political stuff as well. So Today has lately been trying any gimmick, they can to beat GMA. Lauer was supposed to give up his morning spot to Ryan Seacrest, but he renegotiated his contract so now Today Show is stuck with him and he with them. Seacrest had a contract so now they show him doing occasional pop culture stuff, and he covered the Olympics and he’s also going to be apart of their election coverage I believe I read.
All this to say that the Today show has been a sucky show since Couric left and has been downhill since then and in flux. So do yourself a favor, until they get it together, ignore ‘em.
It certainly is – Australia did quite well because of their mineral wealth – but the prices of same are heading down – demand from China is down – and sooner or later there will be nothing left to dig up.
Rebuilding manufacturing is what has rebuilt the US economy – way above Europe and NOT going down the austerity path. I guarantee the GOP will NOT stop spending – despite the bs of Paul Ryan, They know that way is a disaster. (I worry that some are now trying it in Oz). Mitt Romney’s ideas of letting everyone go bankrupt are horrific.
I don’t know if the economists mention it – but my view is that the share market is rising in part because interest rates are so low. People look for a better place to invest. My limited economics (university was 40 years ago) says there needs to be a balance between interest rates and the share market – the low rates have caused Japan to stagnate for 25 years. It seems that President Obama has had much better economic advisers than some other countries – his plans for getting people back to work are good – shame the congress hates the doing anything that would benefit the unemployed.
Have a good day everyone, off to work.
This clip of Willard ‘endorsing’ PBO is one that I wish we would pass along. I thought of checking how many months PBO was in office BEFORE the bleeding stopped – Romney said HE was in office 11 months before the turn around started – but haven’t gotten to it.
Good morning TOD;
I count it a blessing to be among the sane and intelligent citizenry of TOD. I am dumbfounded by the ignorance of the American populous. I am weary of the need to spend millions for dollars and countless hours courting and persuading people who don’t give a damn about the function of government or their participation in it. I am amazed that millions of people who tuned into the debate last week were won over by a empty suit sycophant. As Martin Bashir stated, ” what has happen when lying counts as a win”.
I was listening to NPR this morning on my way to work. Some citizens in a swing state were complaining about the numerous political TV ads; however, when the issue of Citizens United was introduced into the conversation these citizens were unaware of what that was. I became so frustrated by the totality of ignorance I had to turned off the radio. I can only assume their annoyance with political ads stems from a lack of interest in anything that causes them to gather and process intelligent information.
This is why Romney was so appealing to many last week. His message was short and not thought provoking. I won’t raise taxes; I love teachers; I love energy; I love freedom; I will create jobs.
An let me make it clear, ignorance has nothing to do with education. Unfortunately, my father was unable to attend university; nevertheless, he worked hard to succeed without it. He was involved with what went on in his city, state and country. My mother would drag me around as she registered voters for Bobby Kennedy and politics was a welcome conversation during dinner. Mental slothfulness was not tolerated. The POTUS is hard for many to understand, (even those in the MSM) because he is a quick thinker, a calculating mind master. I count myself blessed to follow along.
Well stated. I also lose patience with apathy and willful ignorance and the misguided focus of attention, like sleeping on the street for a week to get the new I-phone.
Someone wrote (the media, they are all still obsessed with the debate.) They are not obsessed with the debate. no! they are trying to win this white house as always.
Media/GOP the media is the republican party. There is no Mainstream News media. They are the republican party. It Obama vs Media/GOP.
It is and as been for a long time the republican party base. Repeat! There is no real Mainstream News Media only the Republican party base.
Once we realize the media is a part of the republican base. We can take our country back. don’t forget, the Bush’s wins, the wars, the debt, the tax problem with the rich in this country and all the money we owe china, the media help the republican do all this stuff. And they are trying to put Mitt in the white house.
Now over 1 million! That was quick! around 1,030,000
Frank Gallup just uttered a truth on msnbc, intentionally or not. As he was talking about Willard’s rise in polls post debate on Th and Fri., he said that the public “learned from your station and others about who won the debate” and responded in kind.
Exactly.
LOL
This! I have been thinking about the “Pogo ” cartoon, “we have found the enemy, and he is us” Shame on Chris and Ed and the rest (Elliot Spitzer last night) I watched cspan and flipped to MSNBC promptly after the debate thinking it was a toosup. That is about what Rachel said before she turned comments over to Ed and he went BALLISTIC. This kind of hair on fire by our “own” side led to peoples’ mins being flipped to “failure of epic porpotions” when we ever learn, pundits? Shut your mouths, and play your cards close. Your mouths have caused this erosion, not ours. “Professionals” , my eye!
This kind of hair on fire by our “own” side What? there is no own side. If they can make money telling lies for the republican they will, but Fox news has that cover. The media is about making money it a business.
This is why I’m so upset with the 2010′ers. I cannot believe Ed, Tweety and Rachel are going there again.
Happy birthday Bo!
Go Bo.
Here’s to you Bo – you lucky dog! Happy Birthday & may you receive many good treats today.
I HATE people who leave their dogs locked up at home alone day in day out – as Mitt just said he did. If you haven’t got time for a dog – don’t have one. My neighbors dog barks non-stop all day because he is so lonely and locked in a tiny patch from 7am to 6pm.
Why the hell would Mitt Romney want a dog if it’s locked up all day – except when riding on top of car. Horrible
But Bo – so loved and cared for – what a family.
I respect my Dog as much as I do a Family member. They matter!
Who knew? Sandusky changed the news cycle!
Their is a cozy place in hell for Him.
Il’s silly season again in Presidential politics. I urge democrats to please not fall for the media shenanigans and inconvenient distractions. They know Willard is losing, which is why they’re doing everything they can for him. They will go as far as creating false narratives in hope they can change the outcome of this election. They are trying to sow seeds of doubt and disillusionment among democrats. But like every other obstacles they’ve thrown at PBO, they will surely fail in this attempt too. I urge everyone to please follow the President’s lead, and not get distracted by cable performers that called themselves “journalists”. Do you honestly think if things were as bad as the media have been projecting, that the President and his team would be in San Francisco right now instead of campaigning in one of the battleground states? The fact that the President is somewhere in the west coast (far away from a swing state) even in the midst of all these craziness should give you some comfort. The campaign do their own internal polling, and thus know where they stand in the race. Just follow President Obama campaign schedule, which usually indicates the precise swing state they would like to improve their numbers or maybe energize their supporters (especially college students).
Good Morning TOD’ers
Happy Birthday to Jackie and of course BO Obama.
Pizza Hut is ridiculous-
Pizza Hut debates toppings
By KEVIN ROBILLARD | 10/9/12 9:10 AM
Any American willing to ask the presidential candidates a totally out-of-the-blue question at the Oct. 16 debate can get free pizza for life.
Pizza Hut announced Tuesday any audience member at the town-hall-style presidential debate at Hofstra University who asks the presidential candidates if they prefer pepperoni or sausage on their pizza will get free Pizza Hut pizza for the rest of their (possibly shortened?) natural life.
Yes, this is ridiculous. It all boils down to an obsession with the President. People have realized that they can get attention just by attaching themselves in any way shape or form to whatever is going on with PBO at the moment…
I am putting my Obama sign in my Yard, right now. 5 Romney signs in my Republican Area.
Oh Boy!
I love, love, love the tribute vid to our Bday Boy, Bo Obama!!!
A Baseball Analogy
by BooMan
I love that. So true.
THIS! I’ve been trying to say this but BooMan said it soooo well.
And may I add; how does what I say or post as a fan or a member of the team move the conversation “Forward”…if the opposition can’t suppress your vote they will try like hell to depress you ( the role of MittMedia IMO) don’t let them.
I don’t know if this has been linked before, but it’s magnificent!

We need to spread this far and wide.
It’s GOOD and expresses exactly how I feel.
TWEETED!
G’day all. IMHO this is soooo on point. I’m sending this out on e-mail today.
I guess some Guy is going to jump out of a Balloon space Ship?
Really?
Another Balloon Boy? The Media is so easily distracted. LOL!
The media is out to get mitt elected President of the United State, Wake up people the media is not distracted we are.
Some keep thinking there is a Media when it is really the republican base. Media/Gop
Wolfe interviews Robney today.
Ass kissing interview, trying to keep the debate in the news?
Am I the only one who would like to see Barack Obama doing national interviews right now, or something bigger like a press conference. Yes he would get questions about his debate performance. But he can use those questions as a pretext to point out the gigantic flip-flopping, to reiterate the failure of top-down economics. And the bad polls ? He could simply say that the race is volatile, anything…
Maybe the campaign is waiting for the end of the week when polls will be better. But God, I hope they’re right in being low profile and careful. Seeing Romney all over the place is making me very nervous. I want to see Barack Obama on offense, not defense.
President Obama already had a post-debate interview scheduled with Diane Sawyer on ABC I believe.
There is a debate every week this month, so sit-down interviews don’t seem that big a deal to me. Just fodder for the debates.
This week is about the VPdebate and I see the campaign wanting to give VP Biden a clear shot at doing his best without having to add unexpected information or soundbites that may come from an interview.
I get that people want to see POTUS, but I don’t recall GWB doing beaucoup sit-down interviews much at all during his presidency. I see it as another “requirement” on this POTUS that was never imposed on any other.
Very interesting point about the campaign wanting to give VP Biden a clear shot. I hadn’t thought of that.
I’m nervous about this week’s schedule also, doesn’t seem to be enough going on—-with the Lying R’s making 3 stops daily in all the swing states. I admit I’m not a political strategist tho, so ….
Totally agree.
Happy Birthday, Bo Obama, best First Dog!
Good Morning!
What a great day in TODville! I’m so proud of our President! What wonderful photos at the Chavez dedication! Sheila E, my homegirl, representin’! Love it!
EXEMPLARY REPORTING BY FRED KAPLAN – A MUST READ
Mitt Romney’s Most Dishonest Speech
When it comes to lies and half-truths, Romney saves his best stuff for foreign policy.
By Fred Kaplan | Posted Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at 5:14 PM ET
—————————-
Mitt Romney has delivered a lot of dishonest speeches in recent months, but Monday’s address on foreign policy may be the most mendacious yet.
It was expected that he would distort President Obama into a caricature of Jimmy Carter. But it was astonishing to watch Romney spin a daydream of himself as some latter-day George Marshall, bringing peace, prosperity, and hope to a chaotic world—this from a man who couldn’t drop in on the London Olympics without alienating our closest ally and turning himself into a transcontinental laughingstock.
To the extent that Romney recited valid criticisms of Obama’s policies, he offered no alternatives. To the extent he spelled out specific steps he would take to deal with one problem or another, he merely recited actions that Obama has already taken.

Let’s go through the text, point by point.

UPDATE: 11:26 a.m. — Sesame Street has requested that the Obama campaign take the ad down.
“Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns,” the group said in a statement. “We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down.”
Not surprising. The ad and references to Big Bird have been viewed/heard by millions at this point; time to move on. There are a dozen other things that Romney lied about or that PBO has accomplished that OFA can point to.
Oh bummer…I should have grabbed it. Too funny.
We need serious Ads, stop with the Big Bird child play. I don’t believe this ad was from Obama, they just use his voice to approve it.
I think some people should get over themselves. this ad doesn’t appear to be an on TV air buy. It’s a web aid meant to continue the conversation.
Now that Sesame Street has asked that it be taken down, it will be and nothing much more to see here.
It was a funny ad. Get over it.
BTW, I live in Texas, but I stayed with my mother for about 1 month in Cincy, OH and guess what after 2 damn days, I was ready to slit my wrists over all those damns SERIOUS ADS that both sides were paying for. There were more political ads than actually product ads. So an occasional non-serious ad was appreciated.
And it wasn’t President Obama who introduced the subject of Big Bird. It was Willard who made his demise the focus of his remedy for the deficit. The Obama campaign was deservedly and rightly pointing out that absurdity.
The Obama campaign was deservedly and rightly pointing out that absurdity. I agree, just wish it came from the super pac. I love Obama being the only adult in the room.
(Now that Sesame Street has asked that it be taken down, it will be and nothing much more to see here.) My point, it was nothing to see.
Good morning, TODville!! Dust yourself off and hit the ground running, we have an election to win!!
Chips, this is an amazing roundup of everything that happened on the ground yesterday. Love the photos and I’m loving the newspaper endorsements that will surely come flooding in. FOWARD!!
that the republicans way of life. think about all the power the media will have if this come true.
this is what shrub and darth cheney did for 8 years, and that’s why pbo has had to spend his first term repairing and resuscitating the system. it’s guaranteed that dullard bain myth robmey has even bigger plans to ‘harvest’ this nation.
Enough of the second guessing people, you know who you are, the President in in Ohio today, FLOTUS in VA today. VP Biden is likely preparing for the debate this week, which after the freakout I would think some of you should think it’s a good idea that the VP schedule is light. POTUS has a day job, he has to maximimze his campaigning time and fundraising in such a way so that he can also still be briefed daily on EVERY DAMN THING THAT’S GOING ON IN THE WORLD.
ENOUGH! So he hasn’t done any sit-down interviews (he has one scheduled with Diane Sawyer), guess what things in Turkey & Syria are still fluid. So he was fundraising in California the last few days, guess what he had to be in Cali to dedicate the Cesar Chavez Memorial, why the hell not fundraise in Cali while he can, also, to the volunteers in Cali NOT deserve a chance to see POTUS in person. Every volunteer is important, not just the ones in swing states. I also might add, alot of those Cali volunteers will be big parts of the Colorado and Nevada GOVT effort.
ENOUGH! Every ad produced is a SERIOUS AD because all those ads are paid for by contributions to the campaign, even the web ads. I may not like everyone, but I do think the campaign has a plan and one thing about the OfA is that they have a plan and they primarily stick to it, adjusting as they need to along the way, but unlike Romney camp, they don’t do scattershot planning. So every ad is not up to the “Stage” ad or the “God Bless America” ad, so what. So what, every ad ain’t stellar, but every one of them serves a purpose and that’s to advance the strategy in the home stretch phase of election. The campaign no longer has the time to stroke bruised egos or manage daily freakouts over polls or debates and the like, they have to keep a laser eyed focus on the prize and that’s making sure we GOTV and get our people to the polls on Nov 6th and re-elect POTUS.
After the VP debate this week, then I fully expect there to be a full court press on Biden’s time in all the swings states. FLOTUS will continue her swing through military bases (they love her) and grassroots supporters. Dr Jill will continue to do her thing as well.
Seriously, ENOUGH!
Thanks to all of ya’ll who are busy canvassing and calling. That’s how shit will get done and I thank you and appreciate it.
a-effing-men!
Hell Yes! *CLAP CLAP CLAP* Enough of the nitpicking crap. You are NOT Team Obama and they don’t need amateurs second guessing them. If you haven’t run a Presidential campaign and won, then STFU.
PREACH!
John Heilman says the President ha been horrible since the debate, because of the focus on Big Bird and that ad.
Really? Is it really that bad?
No, it is not that bad. SATSQ
Here in North Carolina I have not seen the Big Bird ad, let me tell you the ads I have seen, I have seen the one about the 47%, over and over and over, I have seen one were they are talking about Mitt lying about his 5 Trillion tax plan, and the guy saying if you can’t trust him here, how can you trust him here in the Oval Office. So the big deal being made out of Big Bird is not that big of a deal.
Big bird is only on cable. they are not spending a penny on it. but look how it resonates.
Heilman is ridiculous! Reading off of RNC talking points. No matter what time you turn on MSNBainC they just hammer the President.
Well, that was lunch break, have to return Registrations, last day and all.
President Obama departs for Ohio: http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
I see Charles Todd is trying to pile on and stir things up by saying a “staff shakeup” is in the works in the Obama campaign. I thought he might have something substantial in order to report that, but then I see he added that it won’t be anything seen or known out in the open, just bringing back some ’08 staffers for debate prep. That made it sound like he was kind of making it up, Fineman style, to me——not that there’s anything wrong with adding some more voices to the prep. And of course the mediaite story added disgusting Barnicle’s disgusting quote about “the cold hand of fear gripping Chicago”. With a couple of exceptions, msnbc is as disgusting and damaging as any other right leaning media outlet.
Even more so, because People see MSNBainC as leftwing.
Sometimes they are leftwing, but they are mostly anti Obama.
You would have thought the jobs numbers would reset the campaign, the media does not care about the jobs, only smearing the President.
So many on our side are still freaking out over the debate instead of re-focusing on the jobs numbers and Mitt’s lies. It’s maddening.
I haven’t watched the media over a week. I touch a little on Huffpost or MSNBC because I want to touch on what is going on. I have noticed over time that much of it has gotten ridicules and unwatchable but it comes as no surprise as they’ve been doing this sort of shit for a long time so I’ve come to expect nothing from them.
This has been their one and only opportunity to talk smack, so they’re going to go overboard. Just like the left freakout has gone overboard. It happened in ’08, right up till the end. Business as usual.
Okay FLOTUS I’m taking you up on it, here in N.C. we have till the 12th.
Thank you, anniebella!
I was phonebanking last night. telling folks where to early vote. Found a new volunteer. Please stop wprrying and join a phone bank. OFA makes it easy for you and a group of people makes it fun.
What about the President giving a closing speech on what the next 4 years would be?
A couple days before the election?
Reality ….
Well, I have to say that if there were R staff in PA, I never saw them. But good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you and all that.
But according to the recent polls he is closing the Gap. Not! My hubby is taking a Sociology class and I have learned so much about what our media does it terms of Sociology. They want ppl to perceive that the polls are closing so they do what they have to do to make it seem so. The problem is that “we” should not be part of the group that falls for their tactics, but I have read a lot of Debbie Downer posts here lately.
I wish some familiar names would stop saying “Obama had a bad debate” in dozens of tweets. Not helpful. Need to shift focus and move along.
I am not seeing any such tweets in my twitter TL.
Will Heilman quote this poll?
What about Ohio, Florida, and Virginia
Isn’t this just amazing? The Oh Repub Sec. of State is appealing the allowance of the 3 early voting days to the Supreme Court. I have never seen such a determined effort to stop people from voting/make it more difficult as has been going on in these states where newly elected Repubs are in charge. It’s unbelievable, all these undemocratic efforts.

If Romney was any kind of a leader for the entire country, which is the job he seeks …he would put a stop to this.
heh.

I looked further: the race itself ticked in Romney’s direction by a swing of 2 points, both with registered and likely voters. But PBO’s approval went up.
Does that mean if the election were held today Romney would win, I don’t think so.
It’s the national tracking, so no. Of course not.
The hack gap
Just delurking to make a comment: it’s going to be VERY crazy up till November 6th (brace yourself) because unfortunately, a lot of liberals are piling on the President, just like they do when any major legislation is about to be passed. Instead of having his back, they whine and complain and give credibility to the pundits. There is no liberal media. Most of the folks on MSNBC are ego-driven hacks that are rich and live in their own bubble. They use bait and switch techniques to lure you to watch a segment and then bash PBO for hours on end everyday. Don’t fall for it. At this time in ’08, I shut off the TV, watched what I needed on C-SPAN and got to work. The same applies here. I’ve been truly disappointed at some on this blog and other blogs, as well as on twitter that are still spreading doom and gloom—-if you think the President is nonchalant about what’s going on, then that person has not been following him all these years. He’s proven himself to me 100x over. One debate will not make me be pessimistic or bring others’ mood down. I understand some folks are nervous and anxious. But be aware of the ripple effect of your negativity—-it’s infectious. And about Big Bird……trust that no matter how nonserious some of us may think it is, that is all the Walmart/suburban moms are talking about and even quite a few men. I made a ton of errands after the debate, and yes….Big Bird was a BIG takeaway. Even if this is just a web ad, it’s a reminder of the stupidity that PBO was probably disgusted about that night, among other things. They do multiple focus groups on ideas and TV/debate topics before ads are done. Most of us here are serious politicos that follow daily happenings. Many people are not. Why are the reporters/pundits jumping on this as not a good ad—because it’s effective for the target audience it’s aimed at reaching. It’s not meant for us. It would be nice if Chuck Todd, Terry Moran and others spent the same amount time of debunking all of Romney’s lies/ads, but they won’t because they are doing what the guys at the very top want them to do. Their marching orders is to attack PBO and go easy on Romney—plain and simple. It didn’t matter if PBO had a 20 pt. lead, they were going to change the narrative over and over no matter what happened. So if you get down, focus on the battleground states numbers, stay strong and don’t freakout. Just hold on guys because the vitriol will get worse, prepare yourselves for it, work hard for PBO, and continue to support the positive energy on this blog.
I agree about Big Bird—-all the piling on against it was because it was highly effective. Much of the public may not be inclined to get into policy differences, but everyone can relate to Big Bird and Sesame Street and the absurdity of Romney’s plan to slash funding there. It rang a bell with everyone, got the biggest laughs and cheers at Obama appearances, on all news outlets, Big Bird costumes flying off the shelves etc. It interfered with the the negativity from the debate that the media was determined to push.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The media wants us to perceive something that is not, and I hate that people are falling for it. The negative energy should be used on something positive that can be done for the campaign. I can’t believe that “supporters” think that one debate performance would cause a shift in the polls to the magnitude that some are now claiming. I know that some here don’t like Nate Silver, but he even said not to take too much credence in the new Pew poll. The Big Bird ad is effective in my opinion because as you say parents who realize how important PBS is and has been to their children were appalled by Mitt Romney’s attack on PBS. I have heard some people who were leaning Mitt say that was it for them. This campaign is strategic, and they know what they are doing and time and time again they prove that they do while doubters are left speechless over and over. This is not the time to become unraveled and disjointed. Now is the time to band together, do everything that we can do to help the President get reelected, and tune the media out.
I seriously do not know what all this talk about debate and polls is all about. Even if President Obama had walked on stage and Mitt Romney had walked over to him and physically knocked him out so that he was lying helplessly on the floor of that stage, I will not allow myself to be reactive but control the narrative. This is what everyone who posts on this site must do until the election!
There will be good days and bad days but our collective attitudes will help everyone through.
It is too late in the game now to allow discouraged members to come to this site and depress everyone else. I have just literally been scrolling past any comments that has debate or poll information in it. (To me it is irrelevant). It has made catching up real fast too.
There were 2 things I was 100% sure of going into this election
The first is that President Barack Obama is a good man, with a strong heart for the people and not easily intimidated, by republicans in congress, the media, the democrats in congress, not even by the chance that he may lose this election.
President Barack Hussein Obama will continue to be who he is and I do not care what happens in his next 2 meetings with the holder of the Guinness World Record for Most Lies told in political discuss, I will be matching forward. Whatever happens let us get ahead of the narrative. We already know what these people are going to do and yet always seem to be surprised every time they do it?? “Puzzling”
The second thing is that the real enemy was not the republicans but actually the media- These people believe they were responsible for President Obama’s win in 2008 and he has not paid them their due by sucking up and kissing their shoes as homage. There are few media types that can be trusted Martin Bashir, Rev Al and the like the exception because they have been consistent. All others have not been and for that reason alone, they should be avoided as much as possible.
This way people are better able to remain positive until Nov 6. There is no room for demoralization folks, it is the last lap before the sprint to the finish on this distant race and discouragement does more harm at this point than good.
Every one took it for granted that the President will knock it out the park in the last dodgy encounter with the Guinness World Record Holder but with President Obama, past experience has thought me not to project on him how he should act and just take it as I see it and I find with that I am never disappointed but accept totally who he is.
And yes folks like the rest of us, he too is very HUMAN.
Instead of moaning about how you think he did, start with the reasons why you are supporting this president! Push back on anyone who is peddling the nonsense, then tell them why you are supporting this president. Fill the airwaves with your support and let us see how long the naysayers will last especially when their efforts to demoralize and discourage is not working.
This is my very long 2 cents
YES. Seriously – go read this: http://halsparks.com/2012/10/lies-win-the-day-lose-the-week/
I TOTALLY appreciate your 2 cents.
I have been stepping around the subject here as much as I can, but I had to stop to give you a hug. {{Believe Again}} I so-so-so wish EVERYONE ON THIS SITE would ‘control the narrative…. until the election’. I haven’t said it because I don’t want to get caught up in the dialogue about how adult we all are and how we are all entitled to our opinions and how the Pres could/should have/ has to/had better ……. but lord knows I shake my head sadly when I come upon a comment that is focused in that vein. It hurts a little each time someone here pauses to ‘hit’ at PBO instead of at Romney, Ryan or the GOP, it really does. Ryan and his heinous plans seem almost to have been forgotten!
So Believe Again, thank you for sharing your honest feelings. ‘Fill the airwaves with your support’, and only your support, is a STANCE I wish we here would all adopt FOR THE ENTIRE REST OF THE TIME LEADING UP TO Nov. 6. Of course, I accept that that’s just my dream, but I’ll hold it close and continue to dream while I step lightly around those who feel it’s vital to continue to play unconscious devil’s advocate for the GOP.
Thanks for the hug and comment VC. It all seems so simple to me, see how the right reacts to terrible gaffes from their candidate and the president’s so called supporters cannot handle a simple debate. They seem to forget that the current brand of republicans are fire throwers, who throw their fire bombs and monitor a significant site like this one to see if their ploy has been successful.
Like I said this is not the time to be showing our hand, we must not let them see that their tactics are even noticed because it encourages them to do worse!
Thanks again for the hug
Unbelievable.
OMG—–this Romney family is without merit. PBO is an obstinate child??? That is sickening, has implications.
Talking about themselves…..5 boys? Didn’t the lying bishop made a crude reference to his boys at the debate last Wed? Sam Stein is Not one to be trusted…..appearing on Mourning Joke and says the things he says, makes me think that he is trying to get Us going. Where was Sam Stein when Ann Romney said 12 days ago that her biggest Worries was Willard Mitterrand Romney’s Mental Well Being?
Please dotseter3 can you do me a big favor and tweet that to Sam Stein….that is if you agree with my assertions.
This is sending me over the edge. The disrespect for this President makes me physically ill.
I wish that people would remember PBO’s convention speech where he made it clear that he was the President. The left should have hammered that home, over and over and over again. Like the ‘citizenship’ line. I use it at twitter as often as I can. These are the memes that undergird our position.
I cannot believe that spoiled Romney brat said that. I’m furious
OMG, this is a despicable family of entitled jerks. They are all rotten to the core with no scrupples.
Minn. didn’t get the doom and gloom memo:
I’ll take these cross tabs:
I did not think Minnesota was in play…why are they still polling there ?
Classy people those Romney’s ain’t they!
Character and values on display…when people show who they are believe them.
Romney lied in front of his own granddaughter sitting in the front at debate; that alone should
scare the American people.
I had a similar response when I first saw this clip. I also thought that it revealed quite a bit about the Mitt child-rearing dynamic.
Have you guys seen this? The apple certainly doesn’t fall far from the tree. I’m going to be laughing when we CRUSH these asshats.
If JR is talking about pres Obama as Sam Stein tweeted and not about one of his siblings…..then let Us ask Sam Stein why he ignored Ann Romney’s worries about her husband’s Mental Well Being…..
from Gallup:
Although Gallup’s main focus is on seven-day rolling averages, a breakdown of interviewing over shorter periods can be helpful in understanding the short-term impact of events like conventions and debates. As Gallup reported Monday, Romney gained ground among registered voters in the immediate aftermath of his Oct. 3 debate, moving from a five-point deficit prior to the debate to a tie in the immediate three days that followed. Most of that gain was driven by substantial Romney leads in the Thursday and Friday tracking.
Since Saturday, however, Obama has regained a 50% to 45% edge among registered voters in interviewing conducted Sunday and Monday — the same as his margin in the three days prior to the debate. Although these two days of interviewing involve relatively small sample sizes, they suggest that Romney’s debate “bounce” may be fading.
This is the video. We have to CRUSH these asshats in the election. We just have to.
No doubt a lot of projection going on there but that was kind of funny.
Now THAT’S a great ad. Need to keep the focus on seniors!
Great ad, serious and to the point. Obama the only adult in the room.
very important topic! you don’t realize until it happens in your family, so folks may not think they need to vote based on this issue.
but my mom is in a nursing home, and the basic monthly fee is $14,000. that’s right– fourteen thousand dollars per month, and that does not include medicine or doctor visits. this is not a fancy place; it’s state-supported. all mom’s retirement income doesn’t touch the cost, and so medicaid was necessary for her to receive the care she needs.
when these ads say ‘family’s would have to bear the cost’–think about how your family would come up with $14,000 every month.
we have to clear the rethugs out of congress, as well as re-elect our president!!
Stunning analysis of the Big Bird ad and why it is so effective: http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2012/10/why-republicans-are-freaking-out-over.html Squeeee.
How’s that? Robney up 2 likely voters. Let’s not sugar coat it, they have found a way to say Robney is leading with likely voter crap!
jovie – they can say anything they want but it does not change the reality on the ground. which is to say it is all bs. and it won’t wash.
EVERYONE: GO READ THIS NOW:
74% – I’m in the majority! ;lol:
Gallup likely voters Robney up 2, registered voters Obama up 3.
That’s bullshit!
Chat away everyone, back in a while:
