I know that some people hang on to every word that Nate Silver says, but let me tell you, this guy has an agenda. Since the first debate, he has been over- hyping Romney’s prospects, low-balling PBO’s debate performance as “awful” , and his outdated models fail to take into account Obama’s excellent ground game. Instead they include every right-leaning poll with questionable samples and “likely voter” algorithms.
He treats that Mason-Dixon FL poll showing Romney leading PBO among Hispanics by 30pts as valid (Jefferson Obama debunked that garbage yesterday) and all his models since last week have included similar such polls like GRAVIS, and WeAskAmerica, etc. Yet he fails to report on the actual registration numbers and early voting data in the key state of Ohio, showing Obama ahead of Romney by 2 to 1.
This guy is widely respected in DEM circles, so he’s someone we need to watch because he’s not-so subtly trying to discourage Obama supporters and push Romney.
Understand your issues with Nate. Fact is, I don’t think 99% of Americans even know who he is and his influence on the outcome of the Election is likely to be negligible to zero. Team Obama and the Dem leadership have the only polls that matter – their internals. If you watch what they do, when and where, you get a rather clear picture of what they see as essential contact with voters between now and close of polls on Election Day.
You are right. Our team told our supporters, the public polls don’t matter, our ground game matters and the early voting in Ohio and Iowa is going very well.
But, the media is very tilted towards Robney, even Today.
I hope you’re right Bob because I see his 538 models and tweets being cited a lot in the liberal blogosphere. And some people swear by them.
But I have reason to believe that 2012 is unique and the outcome will not be necessarily borne out by the polling data in the way that 2010 or even 2008 did.
Exactly. When Romney was supposedly down by 5-6pts nationally, and down by 15-50pts among key constituencies such as women and Latinos, Silver NEVER used the word “awful” to describe Romney’s numbers.

In the last week alone, Romney’s campaign says at least three of its rallies have, per the campaign’s crowd counts, exceeded 10,000 people: an Oct. 4 event with country singer Trace Adkins in Fishersville, Va., which was Romney’s largest event ever at 14,000 people; a rally last Sunday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., that drew 12,000 people; and one in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, that fire marshals estimated also drew 12,000 people.
White House press secretary Jay Carney on Friday doubled down on charges by the Obama campaign that Republicans are politicizing the raid in Benghazi.
“From the beginning, unfortunately, because this is not our tradition, [there's been] an effort by some to turn this into a partisan fight,” he said during a White House briefing. “And that’s a shame when we’re talking about brave men and women in our diplomatic service who serve Democrats and Republicans, who represent the United States of American people, and America’s interests abroad, often in very danergous parts of the world.”
Carney reinforced Vice President Joe Biden’s assertion during Thursday’s debate that neither Biden nor the president was informed about requests for additional security in Benghazi ahead of the attack on Sept. 11. And he said decisions about security levels there – and at thousands of other U.S. missions around the world – are “appropriately” made by security professionals at the State Department.
“It is certainly not the case that the assignment of security personnel at diplomatic facilities is made here at the White House, nor should it be,” Carney said.
“What is the case is that the president sets his priorities in his budgets, and the president has set levels of funding for diplomatic security in his budgets that have been routinely slashed by Republicans, especially in the House,” he said in a not-so-veiled dig at Paul Ryan. “So I find it rich that charges are made about concern over diplomatic security by those who routinely slash funding for diplomatic security in order to pay for tax cuts.”

I hate to say it, but it appears the responsibility is on Hillary, and yes the Hoyse Republicans for cutting Embassy security.
The GOP are the ones who cut funding. An assistant secretary is the one who was following protocol that dictated only two extensions, and made a bad call not to respond to the request for a third extension of the security staff. It’s a tragedy.

““If you’re going to offer an across-the-board 20 percent tax cut without explaining how it’s getting paid for, hell, why stop there? Why not just offer everyone over 18 a 1965 Mustang? Why not promise every child a Zagnut and an Xbox, or compatible mates for every lonely single person?”

Congratulations on your anniversary trip! What do you have planned? October is usually our best month for weather so I hope it’s great for you.
we’re hoping to take in some of the jazz festival, and walk across the gg bridge, and visit the ‘new’ de young, and ferry over to angel island, and eat all kinds of yummy stuff we don’t find in our small-town hawaii. we’re doing a home-exchange, so we get to stay in nob hill (in a studio apt/second home). not renting a car, so lots of walking! any tips or suggestions are welcome!
WOW, what a great trip you have before you!! An apt rather than a hotel will make it very, very special. Nob Hill will be great fun because it’s central to so many things and walking in this city is a blast. Very smart to have a car because there is no parking. My advice is to eat in the neighborhoods. Tons of great restaurants off the beaten path. Just follow your nose. Walking the GG is a phenomenal experience, just breathtaking. You will LOVE it. Just wrap up as it is really, really windy. Let me know if you have any questions! I live in Russian Hill so I know this territory very well.
Poking my nose in… I was in San Francisco (favourite city) a few weeks ago, and I highly advise going to the Slanted Door at the Ferry Building. Probably some of the best food I’ve had in a long time (great cocktails, too)! Happy Anniversary!!
“Friday Night Lights” Creator Accuses Romney of Plagiarism
Peter Berg, the writer-director of the Friday Night Lights movie and television series, is not pleased that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has co-opted a phrase from the show for his campaign appearances.
In a letter to the Romney campaign obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, Berg calls the use of “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose” an act of stealing.
Writes Berg: “Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series. The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and Friday Night Lights is in the character of Buddy Garrity — who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan.”
Simple Question
Do people think a security request from a US consulate ends up on the President’s desk? The Vice President’s? Assuming the reporters flogging this know this but are choosing to ignore this obvious point?
Xbox gamers say Biden won debate
By KEVIN CIRILLI | 10/12/12 3:21 PM
About 44 percent of undecided voters who watched Thursday’s vice president debate said Biden won, compared with about 23 percent of voters who chose GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, according to a poll conducted through the Microsoft gaming console. The poll also found that 72 percent of undecided voters said Biden was more truthful than the Wisconsin congressman.
Joe’s Secret Service agents are a real presence today – in front of and behind the front row people he’s shaking hands with – glad they take care of him!
This should not even be a tie, when Robme insults 47% of America as not taking responsibility for their lives, I really do not understand this, how can people not see that he is getting ready to take away all they have because he thinks that have it too good. Remember when we used the interest we paid on buying a new car as a tax deduction? What happended to that and who took that away from us? Yet Robme can hide millions in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes and that is legal. Wake up America. Robme is the most unpatriotic candidate running for president in the history of this country, his family going back to his grand father running to mexico to have multiple wives set the stage of their unpatriotic legacy. They want all the benefits of American citizenship and not contribut their fair share, 5 sons and none even in the national guard. They make me sick, a liar is a thief and a thief is a murderer.
I think what we are seeing in national polling is that Romney has peaked. PBO is holding the essential swing states in the electoral count, and most will rebound in the next couple of weeks. Tomorrow Gallup tracking should look better because the “bad Friday” will have dropped off.
Jovie, this is just my take. I think there were many, many repubs who were not on board. They just couldn’t stomach their candidate. Then after the debate they thought, ok, at least I can vote for him. That is what made the polls go up in his favor. I do not think there is very many (hardly any) people who have not made up their minds. There are many who don’t give a rat’s ass. I do not think that last night’s debate will make the people who finally got on board with the GOP change their mind. I don’t think we will see much shift in the polls. What I do know for fact is: This election will be won by getting out every single supporting vote for our President. The last date to register has passed in many states. We will not be able to engage any new voters, so we must get out to every single supporters door and get their vote turned in. We have no time left to be hoping and wishing. We need to work! Just my thoughts.
Don’t tell that to Nate Silver. He’s having visions and salivating at the prospect of a Romney presidency with a Dem controlled senate. Just get that pesky Black guy out of the White House and all will be well!
Seriously, if President can go on Jon Stewart or the View shows for us, you know we can get out and knock doors for him. We must go and get every supporting vote in and counted. I just can’t imagine some one as wonderful as our President having to stoop to going on these t.v. show. There isn’t anything he won’t do for America, so there is nothing I won’t do for him.
I am very surprised to hear this. The last appearance Stewart was jawdroppingly disrespectful. I trust PBO and he must think he has this in hand. Yes??
I agree , squarepeg! I do not get what people see in this not funny guy. He is rude, loud, tires to hard and why is he winning all of these Emmy awards? Is he trying to be the next Lenny Bruce? His ego is way up there!
I wish President Obama wasn’t gracing that dullard, Jon Stewart, with his presence. Jon Stewart doesn’t deserve it. It was this time in 2010 when he called President Obama “dude”, and then held a huge rally the weekend before the election and didn’t even ask people to vote.

PRIVATE MEDICARE PLANS SCORING HIGHER UNDER OBAMACARE 10/12/2012 @ 1:51PM
Privately-run health insurance companies that contract with Medicare are scoring higher in a government-backed quality rating system designed to guide seniors to better medical care choices and service, the Obama administration announced Friday.
The so-called “Medicare Advantage Plans” are performing better with more of them hitting four- and five-star ratings on the five-star scale, said U.S. Secretary for Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebeliusand officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. …
My husband and I are extremely pleased with his Medicare Advantage plan. They are subsidized (thanks to Republicans passing money to the insurance industry) and I want the subsidies gone. But what we’ve seen since ACA was passed is that they are working really hard to keep my husband in the plan, rather than go to traditional Medicare.
Despite what Thom Hartmann pushes, it isn’t just a subsidy for the same benefits you get from Medicare (I have to believe that Thom knows he’s lying about that). You get MORE, and it’s not just a gym membership. There is an out-of-pocket cap now — something that does not exist in Medicare and did not exist in our Medicare Advantage plan until ACA was passed. That is a HUGE difference.

Joe’s doing a great job in his speech – reminding everyone of the lies and misrepresentations of both RAyn and Robme.
Yes, a great job. Go, Joe! Ridin’ with Biden!

love that…
WOW meta, I was just about to post this great visual of our dream team.
We’re on the same trail once again!
I adore everything about their relationship.
Simple Question
Do people think a security request from a US consulate ends up on the President’s desk? The Vice President’s? Assuming the reporters flogging this know this but are choosing to ignore this obvious point?
Josh Marshall-
Good point, Josh.
Anything to make President Obama look bad.
Give ‘em hell, Joe! Boy, our Vice President is fired up – not at all tired after last night’s take down of the other guy. Love it!

Hell, ZOGBY has it all tied up. The Mitt bounce continues to deflate.
Zogby? Seriously? Is that a real poll or one of Zogby’s ‘join if you want to’ internet polls?
Real poll.
I do believe that PBO fully understands the critical importance of saving this nation from Romney-Ryan.
He’s going to be blazing from the second debate through the final three weeks…..
I think what we are seeing in national polling is that Romney has peaked. PBO is holding the essential swing states in the electoral count, and most will rebound in the next couple of weeks. Tomorrow Gallup tracking should look better because the “bad Friday” will have dropped off.
Reuters/Ipsos poll: Romney lead slips to 46 to 45 percent. By Patricia Zengerle …
Washington Times is a rag of the worst order.
Oct. 5-7 45% tied. It is now Oct. 12. The question is what is it now?

PBO is going on Jon Stewart’s show next Thursday.
I agree with you donna.
Yes??
Always!
Expect R&R to be on the following Day!
FUCK JON STEWART!!!!
It was this time in 2010 when he called President Obama “dude”, and then held a huge rally the weekend before the election and didn’t even ask people to vote.
youth vote. a lot of young college aged viewers watch TDS. Also the “hipster”" journos bemoan Stewart, but the diligently watch & use Stewarts bits as some sort of pulse of the youths. nevermind that Stewart himself is pushing 50 (he’s 49). it’s became reason why POTUS went on Jimmy Fallon and it Leno
