    Mitt Romney: The Absentee Governor

    By JM Ashby

    ——————-

The New York Times continues to tear into Mitt Romney today, this time focusing on the amount of time he spent away from his duties as governor.

BOSTON — When the ceiling collapsed in the Big Dig tunnel here, Gov. Mitt Romney was at his vacation home in New Hampshire. When the Bush administration warned that the nation was at high risk of a terror attack in December 2003, he was at his Utah retreat. And for much of the time the legislature was negotiating changes to his landmark health care bill, he was on the road.

I know Ms Ashley Judd has been taking classes in Harvard. She has also stepped up her political activism promoting social-economic justice and very supportive of PBO.

I wonder if she ever has any intention of representing her home state some day??

She would be a person I would wholeheartedly support because when you listen to her she seems to be living her life in a manner that “does not close the door of opportunity behind her”. She is also very well spoken and seems to remember her roots and the challenges she faced.

I also heard her call into NPR’s Car Talk asking about her truck some time this year. The guys (Click and Clack) could not believe it was her at first and they sure had some fun with her call. Did anyone else hear her?

I missed that! And I usually do listen to the Car Talk guys over the weekend – they’re a hoot! I’ll have to try and find the podcast of that show online.

On the one hand, he’s just so normal. On the other hand – he’s the President of the United States! I don’t know anybody who’s able to embody two polar opposite characteristics at the same time and make it look so natural. If there was a crisis in the minute after that picture was taken, I would totally expect him to stand up, put on his suit jacket and get in front of a flag and command the US armed forces into battle – or whatever. And then maybe take a slice of that pizza he brought with him, and get into Marine One to go meet with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It would all seem perfectly perfect. He is exactly where he is supposed to be at this moment in history. He is exactly who he needs to be. It just gives me such a sense of confidence and security knowing he’s the President.

Oh yes, if this was me, I am pretty sure sleep wouldn’t find me for at least the next three day! Buzzzzzz….. What I love is everyone around him just getting it done, looking so normal and all…. That is really what it’s about…. Like when FLOTUS said she just wants people, especially young women and girls she is mentoring, to think of her as just Michelle. Here PBO is just being Barack! Pretty fine! Very cool! They are so HUMAN! Is that not why we love them so very much? :)

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Oct 14 (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama said on Sunday his debate preparation was “going great” and aides said the Democrat would be more aggressive in his next face off with Mitt Romney after their last encounter gave the Republican challenger a boost.

Since that first debate in Denver on Oct. 3, polls indicate Romney has erased Obama’s lead heading into the Nov. 6 election. Obama and Romney debate again on Tuesday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. The third and final presidential debate will take place on Oct. 22 in Florida.

Obama is spending the days ahead of the second debate at a resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, a battleground state that both candidates want to win in order to be victorious on Nov. 6.

During a quick stop at a local campaign office, where he delivered pizzas to volunteers and called supporters by phone, Obama ha d a n enthusiastic ta ke on hi s practice sessions.

“It is going great,” Obama told reporters.

I know that is not great, but you recall the mason Dixon poll that had Robney up 7 overall, The President led Hispanics 46-44.
This is s 5 point improvement, with 5% undecided.
Amazingly, the president did lose ground amongst Hispanics after that first debate.

        October 14, 2012 at 8:02 pm

jovie141, I don’t think POTUS lost that much with the Hispanics. I refuse to believe that people were so impress by one debate that they ignore the last seven or eight months of Mitt Romney.

      • October 14, 2012 at 10:39 pm

the question to ask is whether or not the poll had spanish-language callers. In the last AZ poll that had Obama up by 2, was done with spanish-language callers. Since then, I’ve begun to wonder if like cell phone calls, if pollsters are missing Hispanic voters in cases where there is a language barrier.

Someone on the previous post wrote about how quiet the Obama campaign has been the past few days…..yes, I didn’t notice that, but that is an accurate observation. She also said she thought they must be planning something big in the next three weeks…..I’d say probably so.
We all need to remember that this is the team that brought President Obama from his 2004 Democratic convention keynote notice, through his Illinois State Legislature tenure, to the U.S. Senate….to the Presidency of the United States. Remember what a long shot he was in Feb 2007 when he announced? The media pundits had Hillary nominated and elected…….”it was in the bag.” nothing could change the stars…etc…..He started 70 points down in polls to Hillary, SLOWLY WORKED his way up to where he is now. Yes, these people are masters of timing. They’ve let the press hyperventilate over the first debate, turn themselves into pretzels over Romney and Ryan, and know exactly where they’re going and when.
I know they’re not omnipotent or omniscient, but they are smart and they WORK, and they ORGANIZE. Remember how SP made fun of being a “community organizer”….well, look who beat her and she has never recovered.
Also, they have internal polls, and I’m sure they look at all the external polls, but their internal polls are the ones which tell the story. I learned that four years ago. Also, when Axelrod was asked that silly question this morning about the President in the next debate, he really said nothing, and gave away nothing. Ax does that very well.
Some debate professor was on tonight talking about what each of the men has to do, blah, blah, blah……this townhall format is tailor made for the president. He is great at this…..it will be interesting to see. He can truly be his brilliant, savvy self in that format.

note to Bobfr and Tally – Fox news is trying to stick President Obama with Romney’s Sensata issue. The title of the article is — Obama owns shares of Sensata Personally Benefits from Outsourcing.

It didn’t help that I had my Obama/Biden logo in the post. lolol But I wasn’t rude or anything. I simply listed the facts that Romney owns 51% gets 450,000 per week and is scheduled to ship the jobs on Nov 5 the day before the elections. I also said it wasn’t new, he did the same with KB toys and got 900% profits and Ampad was also destroyed. lolol then I provided the links to the stories. so . . . I guess I wasn’t really surprised that they deleted my post but still .. ..

I wouldn’t know what it took for me to register at that place.

        October 14, 2012 at 9:09 pm

Those are the same seniors in Florida who voted in a governor who had to pay $1 billion on fines or Medicare fraud. Same seniors who had tea bags on their heads demanding an end to spending (even though they’re on Medicare and Social Security), and end to taxes (even though their taxes had just been lowered by President Obama), and instructed the government to keep its hands off their (government run) Medicare program. Doesn’t surprise me they’re not planning to vote against their own best interests – and cheat their kids and grandkids out of a decent and secure future.

So I bowed out of my GOTV phonebank early, because my right shoulder is absolutely killing me.

Lots of calls made, few contacts. But that was to be expected, as we were calling people who aren’t consistent voters. Lots of wrong numbers, which again is to be expected, since they may have moved and not re-registered. This is the campaign honing its lists to get the most bang for the buck, and this was our first GOTV phonebank.

    • October 14, 2012 at 8:59 pm

Ah LL, sorry to hear your shoulder is giving pain, not what you need on a phonebanking day. Sounded like a frustrating experience, but as you said, this is about the campaign honing its list. Endless admiration, keep up the wonderful work – and get better soon!

Europeans dismiss Romney and back Obama in US election

// f President Barack Obama was standing for re-election in Europe rather than the United States he would romp to an easy victory over his Republican rival Mitt Romney, according to the results of a poll published today.

The German Marshall Fund think-tank’s annual Transatlantic Trends survey found that 82 per cent of European had a positive opinion of Obama, while less than a quarter had a favourable view of Romney. Asked directly who they would vote for if they could take part in the US elections, 75 per cent of European Union residents went for Obama and only 8 per cent for his opponent.

Romney’s rating was hit by the fact that he is unknown to many Europeans. Asked about the Republican candidate, 38 per cent either said they did not know or refused to answer. The poll was carried out in June, before a trip to Europe during which he criticised London’s preparations for the Olympic Games. //
