Hi everyone, wondering if anyone can help with this?
An occasional poster here got in touch to say a friend’s son has recently been posted to Afghanistan and because he collects postcards his girlfriend had the idea of trying to get one sent to him from every state. She’s about 10 short of her goal – these are the missing states:
Washington
Oregon
Idaho
Utah
Wyoming
New Mexico
Oklahoma
Delaware
Connecticut
Rhode Island
If anyone from one of those states would like to send him a card, just email me and I’ll put you in touch with the person who contacted me.
Thank you!
Update – we have a Washington postcard sender, so we’re down to nine states!
You’re the best CT! You can email me at theobamadiary@gmail.com – I’ve just double-checked with the woman who contacted me to see if it’s okay to pass on her email address, will send it to you when I hear back from her. Thanks again!

From this morning’s Latino Decisions polling update:
ImpreMedia & Latino Decisions released the latest in a series of tracking polls today revealing support for President Obama slipped from 72% last week to 67% this week, suggesting that his debate performance also led some Latino voters to re-evaluate the President. Those who said they are certain to vote for Romney increased slightly from 20% last week to 23% this week. When asked how important the presidential debates are, 76% of all Latinos said a candidate’s performance in the presidential debate was important in how they evaluated a candidate. …
When asked if they thought Democrats were doing a good job of reaching out to Hispanics, 53% said yes compared to 65% a week ago, again suggesting the President’s debate performance impacted support for the Party as well. However, there have been no signs of improvement in perceptions of the Republican Party with 17% saying the GOP was doing a good job of outreach to Hispanics.
Obama’s smaller, post-debate lead is still 8 points larger than his victory margin with Latinos in 2008, when he bested John McCain, 67 percent to 31 percent. That 8 percent comes out of the Republican side of the poll -
So PBO dropped by 5pts, 3 of which went to Willard. So it’s likely that he will get back at least the 2% who didn’t go to Willard, bringing him to 69% and giving him a victory margin that is 10 pts higher than his 2008 margin.
I don’t understand voters who base their opinion on one debate. Where have they been the last four years? Have they not witnessed what PBO has done and the shitload he was handed? How can they even prefer a dishonest, coreless person like Romney? I’ll never understand how people’s minds work!
Hard to tell. People closest to we’re pretty subdued. But my
Obama Biden bumper sticker got me a few winks and smiles when parked close to where the line ended
Good turnout in drizzle – 45 min to work my way inside but from there it was a breeze bcc they handed out ID verification forms to complete while in line outside.
Evenly mixed crowed by race, age, and gender.
Line much longer since I finished.
I read somewhere that the order of the names randomly vary across ballots within a given state. So different voters see different names listed first, last, etc. This is to avoid creating an “order” effect bias.
Crikey, that’s just crazy. I’d like to think it wouldn’t make a difference on the Presidential ballots …. you’d want to be a right dipstick to just vote for whoever’s listed first …. but still, mad stuff.
Well Yardarm, you’ll have to apply for the postion in a formal way, I don’t want to be accused of favoritism when I rule the world – but yes, the jobs is yours!
Seriously since he was the first to apply formally, I don’t mind YardArm having all the jobs, if I can sit at your feet, O Ruleress, and watch him work. I am a supervisory category watcher. Yes I am.
Here is an NPR discussion of this very issue – discussion between the NPR interviewer and a University professor on rotation of names to decrease bias.
// Prof. KROSNICK: There is a remedy and as it turns out, Ohio is the wonderful illustration I think of optimal fairness and accountability. As I said, in Ohio name is order is rotated from precinct to precinct. Now, it’s a pain for the elections officials who have to be very careful about how to implement this every year and make sure they do it fairly. But overwhelmingly often they do do it fairly.
And what’s nice about it is every candidate gets an equal opportunity to be listed first, and anyone who wants to inspect it can always look at the ballots on Election Day to be sure each precinct’s ballots are as they should be according to the law. //
This has to be the most over-polled election in history, so much so, the polls have become the “news”. In the meantime everyone is ignoring Romney’s lies, and his Bain money from China. You should not pay attention to any of the polls, because of the over-saturation of polls, they are useless at this point.

Ummm why is Romney listed first on the ballot?
Good question. The fucker does not even make it alphabetically. Isn’t there a code or something to print the ballot ?
I’ve seen that on a lot of ballots now CK, and I’ve yet to read an explanation for it. Anyone?
I read somewhere that the order of the names randomly vary across ballots within a given state. So different voters see different names listed first, last, etc. This is to avoid creating an “order” effect bias.
I dunno but here in Cook County IL, Obama is #1 on the ballot. Cook County(Chicago) is a Democratic stronghold.
Thanks Yardarm. I’m completely puzzled by it, surely all ballots should be done alphabetically, so how can Mitt Romney ever be before Barack Obama??
It depends on which party has control in the state or county for overseeing election ballots and results(counting).
Crikey, that’s just crazy. I’d like to think it wouldn’t make a difference on the Presidential ballots …. you’d want to be a right dipstick to just vote for whoever’s listed first …. but still, mad stuff.
