Along with the Obama campaign’s stellar grassroots turnout machine, there is another thing helping the president – the success of his policies. The ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that 52% of voters give President Obama some credit for the improving job situation, as underlined by the September drop in unemployment rate to 7.8%. And the president leading in nearly every issue, opening up a 13-point gap on Medicare. This reminds me of something I noticed while the Lefty pundits were having a meltdown after the first presidential debate: the president got Mitt Romney to (and then the Vice President took Ryan to the woodsheds for it) admit that yes, he wants to voucherize Medicare.
Pollsters and the media will continue to find ways to keep the horserace going, and they will always tell us that this is a turnout election, as if that is some sort of an exception from the general rule. All elections are turnout elections. Democrats got their behinds handed to them in 2010 because these same “liberal” blogs and pundits that go on freakout modes on a regular basis convinced enough Democratic-leaning voters to stay home to protest Obama’s lack of ideological purity.
This, like every other election, is a turnout election. And looking at our turnout numbers, the Obama campaign is doing a bang-up job. Let’s keep that up!
Should have congratulated Pamela, as well!! Hope you get your Bo pic

Wonder who FLOTUS voted for?
Joke for today:
The Psychiatrist & The Proctologist
Best friends graduated from medical school at the same time and decided that, in spite of two different specialties, they would open a practice together to share office space and personnel.
Dr. Smith was the psychiatrist and Dr. Jones was the proctologist;
they put up a sign reading: “Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones: Hysterias and Posteriors”. The town council was livid and insisted they change it.
So, the docs changed it to read: “Schizoids and Hemorrhoids”. This was also not acceptable, so they again changed the sign. “Catatonics and High Colonics” – No go.
Next, they tried “Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives” – thumbs down again.
Then came “Minds and Behinds” – still no good.
Another attempt resulted in “Lost Souls and Butt Holes” – unacceptable again!
So they tried “Analysis and Anal Cysts” – not a chance.
“Nuts and Butts” – no way.
“Freaks and Cheeks” – still no good.
“Loons and Moons” – forget it.
Almost at their wit’s end, the docs finally came up with:
“Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones – Specializing in Odds and Ends”.
Everyone loved it.
Okay, THAT was just the laugh I needed! Bravo Zulu, Yardarm!
I bet if it was for the Secret Service, they could go without PBO doing those ropelines and hugging people. Looks like they are ready to pull him back in picture 5
Niliathiel, Secret Service must be thinking ‘life would be sooooooooo much easier if Willard wins ….. no one in America would want to hug the creature’.
Btw, there are pictures of another dinner thing? I so love the videos on that. *sits and waits for video*
Hiya Niliathiel, which dinner??
The two photos right under the one with FLOTUS. Isn´t that taken from another “Dinner with Barack”?
Yep, from the dinner the other day.
Is there gonna be a video, do you know?
Just a short clip so far from AP, Niliathiel, the campaign might have a longer video soon:
Haha. That was precious. He has a very good sense of humor.
The Secret Service always has a hand on the President’s back. He leans so far into the crowd, they have to be sure that they don’t lose touch. It’s actually fascinating to watch these guys. They’re hyperalert and they never look at the Prez because if there’s a problem, it’ll be coming from someplace else. Just watching them watching the crowds is greatly comforting to me.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Obama campaign insisted Monday it remained sanguine about the state of the presidential race, a day before President Obama was to meet Mitt Romney in Hempstead, N.Y., for a second high-stakes debate.
With polls showing Mr. Obama clinging to a narrow lead in the crucial battleground of Ohio, and early voting well under way in several states, a spokeswomen for the campaign, Jennifer Psaki, said, “We feel good about where are in the race.” Ms. Psaki said the campaign’s early-voting operation was superior to that of Mr. Romney’s campaign.
The Obama campaign has been scrambling to halt the shift in momentum in Mr. Romney’s favor since the first debate in Denver, which left many Democrats disappointed with the president’s performance. Mr. Romney has jumped to a small lead over Mr. Obama in several national polls, as well as in battleground states like Florida, Colorado, and Virginia. But Ms. Psaki said that after two weeks of churn, the state polls were reasonably stable.
“It’s very, very close,” she said to reporters at Mr. Obama’s debate camp in this colonial tourist town. “There are some states where we’re up by a few points, there are some states where we’re down a few points. It’s tightened, which we fully expected would happen.”
The White House and campaign officials were stingy with details about Mr. Obama’s preparation, beyond saying that it was dead serious. Ms. Psaki described the president as “calm and energized” and said he had interrupted his preparation only for a brief visit to the local campaign office Sunday, and to walk the leafy grounds at a golf resort here.
“We know the president is his own harshest critic and he knows that Mitt Romney had a better debate,” she said. “But people across the country aren’t voting on who is the better salesman-in-chief; they’re looking for who is going to better represent them in the White House.”
“That’s why he’s looking forward to answering questions from the American people tomorrow night,” she added. “Some that will be about the economy, some that will be about many other issues. Of course, we have no control over that.”
POTUS will be ready, count on it. Romney will not get away with his lies this time.

I am so done with Tamron Hall. What a freakin’ joke she is today. With supposed friends like this, who needs enemies? She’s basically saying that tomorrow’s debate is Obama’s last chance to pull this out … while also building up unbelievable expectations. It can’t be a wash … it has to be an outright win … and he has to be aggressive and tough and fight back every Romney lie.
Do they not realize this is a town hall? Is she stupid … or just misinformed? It’s hard to be aggressive in a town hall. It’s hard to fight back in a town hall. He can’t go out there and do what Joe Biden did last week or he will lose badly. A town hall is all about connecting with the audience … not smacking your opponent over the head with the microphone. Yeesh. What a disappointment MSNBC has become these past few weeks. Her, Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz and Rachel are just unbearable in their demands of what the President needs to do tomorrow. They’re making it so if he doesn’t live up to THEIR expectations, they’re set to call the election for Romney.
I think they need an intervention. These guys are talking to each other and they indeed are setting the stage for another meltdown.
Enough with the unrealistic expectations. They have to be shamed into getting more reasonable. Tweeting, tweeting, tweeting…

THIS BRILLIANT SPEECH COULD BE PRESIDENT OBAMA’S CLOSING ARGUMENT FOR RE-ELECTION
President Obama Speaks at the Associated Press Luncheon

Excerpts of this speech are in the “Why Obama Now” youtube video.

Afternoon, TOD folks! A few thoughts:
1. As seen on a bumper sticker: “Obama Then, Obama Again” – can’t wait for his re-election and, this time, nobody’s stealing my joy for the next four years.
2. From now until the debate, other than Rev. Al and Martin, I will not be watching any of the crap on MSNBC. And I will be stocking up on the wine prior to the townhall. If I had heard the question raised, “Will he rise to the occasion?” one more time on those punditry shows today, I would have just unplugged the TV, rather than put a foot o’mine through it. Senator Obama beat the Chicago machine, he beat the Clinton machine, he beat McCain’s broken machine, President Obama got us through the recession, signed laws of benefit to women and young Latinos, endorsed change and acceptance for the LGBT community, signed the ACA, respected our military and military families with TRUE grace and dignity and caring by honoring them and making sure they were looked after – both while in the service and as veterans, saved the freakin’ auto industry, ordered the take down of bin Laden, and a gazillion other things. To suggest that he can’t “rise to the occasion” of a second debate (and I don’t give a flip what happened during the first) with the lowest scumbag in our politics today is just plain ludicrous and disrespectful.
3. Our “news” media – like ABC – asks in polls who Americans would want as a babysitter – PBO or that sorry-ass excuse for a human being, Romney – and PBO wins but Romney still gets votes. First, I’d allow my toddler great grandson to remain unattended, tied to a Spongebob pillow, before I’d let Romney anywhere near him. Second, to borrow from LOD: No, America, we are not looking for a debater-in-chief, or a babysitter-in-chief, we are looking for a g-d Commander-in-Chief. Somebody please get a grip.
4. For Tommy Thompson’s son to have said at some rally that PBO can just run on back to Chicago “or Kenya” … well, this is one of the reasons I secretly used to wish that President Obama would not run for re-election, because half the damn population and their spawn do not deserve him. Now, I hope and pray President Obama does get re-elected, so half the damn population and their spawn can lose their effing minds.
Thanks for allowing me to rant. Off to finish watching Arachnophobia on HBO, and I don’t even like that genre of film. Now where’s that box of chocolates?
Nice Rant!! Me, I don’t ever want to hear any more about PBO ‘clinging to a small lead in polls” or Romney ‘s chances improved, or that the debates make any difference one way or another. For them to question whether PBO can “rise to the occasion” is the most absurd thing I ever heard. As if everything from the past 31/2 years doesn’t matter.
I am so with you J O’B. I do not understand why Romney is favorable to nearly half the country. It makes no sense. I secretly die a little inside when I hear anything negative about our President.
Oh, Jackie, I do, too. But we’ll survive and have his back and get this done!
Me too, Jackie. I use to be afraid for him to be the President as I didn’t want him to suffer the meanness. Now I pray he can win to help all of us as we desperately need him.
Wow, what a rant, oops I mean comment … lol. Beautiful! You said it very well. What kind of dumb question is “which would you prefer as a babysitter?”
Well, I guess they could have asked “which would you prefer to have a beer with?” but, alas, there’s that little issue for one of them.
This is were the media have not done there job, because any time someone says something like that the media should go after the person who said it and not give these racists ass Republicans a free pass with there racism. Tommy Thompson son ought to be made to answer for his lies, his comment. The media have allow the Republican Tea Party to get away with such crap like that for along time. They are just as guilty as the Republican Tea Party.
“From now until the debate, other than Rev. Al and Martin, I will not be watching any of the crap on MSNBC.”
me too JOB. And I sort of cut them back as well. As soon as they start yammering about polls or have a guest who begins to pontificate about what POTUS shoulda, woulda, coulda done . . . I switch to something else.
I am with you on thinking that some of these folks would deserve what they seem to be wishing for but figured I can wait 4 more years for that conversation.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT??
IS IT REALLY ABOUT THE “SIZE” OF GOVERNMENT OR ABOUT “WHO BENEFITS” FROM GOVERNMENT??
Chris Hays, host of UP With Chris Hayes talks with Rachel Maddow about how Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan say they want to budget government spending and why “SIZE” of government is a false argument and the real question is “WHO BENEFITS” from government.
FLOTUS just said “tell em how we took out Osama Bin Laden.” BAM!!
Mitt raised 171M in September and the campaign and CU are buying ads.
Time to donate.
We’ve been through this movie before. I seriously doubt Romney actually raised $171 M in September as they claim. How many small donors? This was BEFORE the debate – if you recall, when GOP enthusiasm was down.
Andy Borowitz in his Borowitz report has a great post out this morning to help President Obama out on his second debate with Romney — what he needs to do is practice being an a$$hole. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/2012/10/obamas-new-debate-strategy.html?mbid=nl_Borowitz%20%2833%29
Implication in the post is that was VP Biden’s technique, so have half a mind to tell Andy that to me and in fact to us, Biden is a sweetheart and we love him.
That’s why the number surprised me. Yes, it ended up that it was a dose of smoke and mirrors and more $$ to the RNC than to Mitt. But today, this is the number they’re claiming.
I know the superPacs and the campaigning are outspending PBO on ads 3-1. It was such a huge number for us last month – 181M. But he’s going to need every penny for the ground game and ads.
Honestly, I don’t think all the superPAC spending for Romney is having much of an effect on the electorate. That’s why the polling companies are now reduced to pushing LV propaganda to make the race seem more competitive than it actually.
Romney Campaign announces $170-million in total contributions in September. Compares to $181-million by Obama Victory Fund.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) October 15, 2012
And then two months later – we will find that those numbers were all fudged….and the campaign is in DEBT. How many donors, and average donations, is the question.
More deets here…
Just to update y’all on the postcard quest –
I mentioned earlier that an occasional poster here got in touch to say a friend’s son has recently been posted to Afghanistan and because he collects postcards his girlfriend thought it would be a nice idea to try to get one sent to him from every state. She was about 10 short of her goal but TODers from Washington, Utah and Connecticut have, very kindly, all offered to send cards – I’ve put them in touch with the woman who emailed me.
These are now the missing states:
If anyone from one of those states would like to send him a card, just email me and I’ll put you in touch with the person who contacted me.
Very clever ….
I have heard FLOTUS give this speech before, but I never get tired of listening to her give this speech.
I love it when FLOTUS says that the truth matters. Hear that Mitt and the media.
Just heard the First Lady give her speech. I had the volume turned up all the way and had a hard time hearing the first speaker. I wish they would check their microphones for sound quality. Mrs. Obama gave a wonderul speech.

Let me just say that right now I don’t trust ANY report of September fundraising that comes out of the Romney camp. If the Obama camp had said that they raised $100 M, the Willard camp would have put out a “corresponding” figure that approximates $100M. Folks, we’ve seen this movie before, as our dear VP Biden would say.
170 million! Jeeze!
Haven’t Mitt lied before about his money raised? Can’t trust a liar.
Jeeze, I believe he has.

Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee raised nearly $170.5 million last month, about $11 million less than President Obama and his Democratic allies. The Romney campaign says 93.1% of its donations came in denominations of $250 or less. That represented more than 1 million contributions, the campaign says. Under campaign finance rules, donations of $200 or less are considered “small” donations.
PBO not only surpassed 10 million donations so far in 2012 to the campaign and the Democratic Party — a historic record for grassroots politics.
He also raised $181 million in September from 1.8 million Americans — more than 567,000 of whom gave for the first time. That’s by far our biggest month yet.
More important than how much we raised is how he did it: The average donation was $53, and 98 percent of our contributions were $250 or less.
Obama’s September haul falls just short of the $193 million record raised by the campaign and the DNC in September 2008.
Now back to watching paint dry, literally.

Mitt camp: Media wants Obama rise
By LOIS ROMANO | 10/15/12 2:59 PM
Aides to Mitt Romney and Republican strategists fret that no matter how well Romney does in Tuesday’s town hall debate, the media will inevitably award victory to President Barack Obama.
Oh I see!
working the refs.
Romney, like Karl Rove, is a master at pre-emptive projection.
Do. Not. Believe. This. RW Pollsters in spin overdrive.
USA Today/Gallup: Romney Has 5-Point Edge In Swing States (with women it's a 48-48 tie, WTH????) livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/usa-toda…— SportsGirl101 (@Arianna8927) October 15, 2012
Totally bogus, the RVs have PBO up +2. The LV voter screen is a fraud, based on “unenthused” Obama voters who are beating Romney’s in early voting 2-1. This is a propaganda piece, pure and simple.
I just do not believe this B.S. about the women vote. Because of one debate, women have all of a sudden forgotten all about the issues which concerns them, the issues Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan supports. I am sorry but I don’t believe this crap from USA/Gallup.
You knew that was forecasted from Susan Page on Saturday night. When she was inherently mad at the Ohio PPP poll and questioned who was polled.
Now, it seems, they squawk about any positive noise about good polls for the President, because they are the ones who weight things differently.
It’s totally Rovian.
@scgoodgy23 USA TODAY IS A GARBAGE POLLSTER— Jeff Gauvin (@JeffersonObama) October 15, 2012
Please take it from Jeff Gauvin. USA Today puts put garbage polls. They extract numbers from Gallup tracking to extrapolate the result they want. And really….. enthusiasm gap?? When PBO is leading 2-1 in early voting. In 2008 I remember polls like this in Sept. and Oct from USA Today, with big McCain leads. Total garbage designed to create a false narrative.
The USA Today/Gallup poll is bullshit. #1: the poll is OLD. The poll was taken between Oct. 5-11, during the Romney “surge.” The Washington Post poll is NEW. The Washington Post poll was taken between Oct. 10-13. #2: the poll has a 4%-6% margin of error. According to what Nate Silver has said in the past, that is a large margin of error. Susan Page is mad because she didn’t like the results of the new Washington Post swing state poll, so she released this old poll, to keep the Romney “comeback” narrative alive. Mitt Romney is trailing in the majority of individual swing state polls.
Susan Page showed her true colors over the weekend, when was on Twitter bitching at PPP over their Ohio poll, which had Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney by 5-6 points. She didn’t like the results.
By the way, Barack Obama is up 47%-45% in today’s Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll.
Did some investigating and thought I should add this for context:
Source: USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of Swing States taken Oct. 5-11 in Colo., Fla., Iowa, Mich., Nev., N.H., N.M., N.C., Ohio, Pa., Va. and Wis. Margins of error: +- 4 to 6 percentage points. Nationwide head-to-head matchup based on Gallup daily tracking poll of registered voters Oct. 10-11. Margin of error: +- 4 points.
Kevin A. Kepple and Susan Page, USA TODAY
So the date is 5-11th October and margin of error is + 4 to 6 points . Real doozy this one but the MSM will not report this.
“But a word of caution is necessary,” Eichenberg adds. “Although swing states share many similarities, President Obama’s support among women is holding up well in some of them and less well in others. For example, his support among women is largely unchanged since the first debate in Ohio and Wisconsin, but it is definitely down in Colorado, Virginia and Florida.”
There are 22 days to go in this election. I’ve decided that I would rather invest my time and energy on positive activities that will have a real meaningful impact in helping to re-elect the President, as well as electing majority Democrats for both houses of Congress. For these remaining 22 days, when I am not at work, I will devote my time and energy volunteering for phone banking and voter registration. Here in california we have two initiatives that are absolutely crucial to the future of the state. These are Prop. 30 which must be passed in order to save our schools, and Prop 32, which must be defeated because it’s aimed at silencing the voice of workers by outlawing Union participation in politics. I refuse to allow the corrupt media to dictate my agenda. Ultimately, the polls that count will take place when all the votes are counted on Nov. 6th. Harry Truman was supposed to lose, but he won. The same is true of Harry Reid, who was written off by most pollsters, which many in the so called progressive wing of the Democratic party blindly accepted, ended up winning by a margin of almost 6%. I wish all supporters of the President, from now until Nov. 6th, would decide spend less time and energy freaking out about polls and more time and energy in doing positive things that will make these negative polls totally irrelevant.
What’s up with Nate?
Looking at breakouts of "swing states" from national polls is just dumb when there are dozens of actual swing state polls out every week.— Nate Silver (@fivethirtyeight) October 15, 2012
One thing I totally agree on with Nate.
WTH is a a “breakout of swing state from national polls”?
He means so-called polls of aggregates or groupings of swing states separate from national polls, rather than polling them individually.
I’ve been saying this all year now ever since I saw the first stupid collection of swing state polls back in January.
It’s stupid because you don’t know the breakdown of each state … moreover, Obama doesn’t need to win every swing state to win the freakin’ election. If he’s up 3 in Ohio and down 3 in North Carolina and Florida both … it doesn’t matter! So, what the hell is the point of these swing state polls?!?

Martin Brashear is talking about Sensata. Black man responding is stupid. Ignorant azz should hide his face.
He’s a newer GOP pundit. It always seems strange to me that all of their Blacks are pundits instead of having any followers.

Totally off topic, but this is a very enthralling ad. Don’t know if it’s because it’s Brad Pitt and he just has that enthralling effect.
It’s definitely Brad, honey. I’ve already forgotten what the product was, but Brad… hubba, hubba!!
What I don’t like about tomorrow’s debate format is that it features clueless, attention-seeking “undecided voters”, who have to be the dumbest of our dumb. SNL nailed them perfectly here:
See the tweet I posted above from David Axelrod.

HA! Love it! My sentiments exactly. I love Michelle, the guy with the funny ears is not bad too.
Cman, I agree. FLOTUS is pretty cool and her husband, what’s his name is cool too.
Yeah, I can appreciate this sentiment. Maybe a little too generous to the husband, but I guess he’s okay.

The #Sensata pushback I'm getting from RWNJ trolls proves they're terrified because they know this can destroy Mitt. Keep #Sensata trending!— 57ocsiK (@Kisco75) October 15, 2012
OFA has been strangely silent on this, maybe the President will mention it at the debate.
I hope so.
I have a feeling they know that the push back will be like the ad about the woman that died. Doesn’t make it less relevant, but this might be better coming from the media reports, where it is starting to percolate upwards. If they feel the need, watch it come out the last few days before the election when it is firmly in people’s minds and Romney can’t go back.
What will really get people’s goat is that the Chinese flag is higher than the US flag at the plant. That makes for a great graphic.
OMG!!! If any of you here in WA heard a a big shout,,,, do not be concerned. I posted earlier that my niece got a ticket to see Obama at Cornell College…She just started teaching there this fall, she won a ticket in the lottery for VIP seats for faculty….I am doing the happy dance. am so happy for her. guess this is sort of nuts but it I feel as if I will be there too,
good for her otter44

Michelle Obama at OWU in Delaware County (ohio) – a Republican county – crowd size ~2000
Paul Ryan in Waukesha county (Wisconsin) – a Republican county – crowd size ~ 1300
Ann Romney was campaigning in Elizabethtown, PA today, and she only had a crowd of “several hundred.”
But the MSM tells us that the Repugs are tripping over themselves with enthusiasm.
I’m from WI. If that’s all Paul Ryan can pull in Waukesha County, that’s pathetic.
More people in my high school.
Obama pollster: Gallup/USAT poll an ‘extreme outlier’
By EMILY SCHULTHEIS | 10/15/12 4:48 PM
The Obama campaign just blasted out a memo from pollster Joel Benenson, calling today’s Gallup numbers — which gives Mitt Romney a 5-point lead nationally — inaccurate and skewed.

Correction: It’s not a five-point lead nationally … it’s a five-point lead in ‘battle ground states’. So, it’s pointless.

ooooooooooooooooooo…………. sexy man!!!!!!
ps- so I haven’t watched anything politics related (especially bullshit polls) since the thursday after the debate and I’ve gotta say, my blood pressure is nice and low. Instead, I’ve been catching up on all the tv shows I’ve missed in the last three years. I’ve finished Leverage, Common Law, The Closer. Now I’m searching for a new show to watch. I think someone mentioned Downton Abbey the other day so I figure I’ll start on that one.
See if you can find the special on OWN about Oprah’s school in South Africa. I guarantee you wil cry. Some deserving young ladies and they are so appreciative. Education is going to bring them out of pover
ty. Such good role models for the young girls in the States that have so much and don’t appreciate it.
Charity president unhappy about Paul Ryan soup kitchen ‘photo op’ says Ryan ‘ramrodded’ way into fake dish washing photo-op
Brian J. Antag, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.
“We’re a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations,” Antag said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. “It’s strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.”
He added: “The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.”
