Michael Tomasky: Well, Fox was calling it a draw, and its anchors started blaming Candy Crowley for how it all went down 32 seconds after it ended. Need to know anything else?
….. There were other moments. Obama won the immigration discussion. He won guns, to the extent anyone’s voting on that. He won taxes. Taxes — weird. I was shocked that Romney stood by his 20 percent and insisted that his math does add up.
…. and Romney not knowing that Obama called the Benghazi attack an “act of terror” the day after? He just didn’t know….
And finally, the 47 percent moment. Why would Romney stick out his jaw like that? The last question. Romney going first. Knowing he’d have no chance to respond. Knowing also (as it had dawned on me about 15 minutes before) that Obama was about to go through two debates without mentioning the 47 percent. And Romney mentions that he cares about 100 percent. Here’s my jaw, Barack. Unreal.

Charles Pierce: …. That moment when he was hectoring the president about the president’s pension made him look like someone to whom the valet has brought the wrong Mercedes.
“You’ll get your chance in a moment. I’m still speaking.”
Wow. To me, this was a revelatory, epochal moment. It was a look at the real Willard Romney, the Bain cutthroat who could get rich ruining lives and not lose a moment’s sleep….
And Romney bitched endlessly – endlessly – about the rules, and why this uppity fellow on the other stool was allowed to speak before he was spoken to….
…. The one thing nobody can ever say now is that they didn’t know the exact character of Willard Romney, and exactly how he feels about The Help, including that member of The Help who currently holds the job that Romney believes should have been his by virtue of his god-kissed, golden life.
“You’ll get your chance in a moment. I’m still speaking.”
Put all those Romneys together and that’s what they sound like, even when they’re talking to the president of the United States. It’s the voice of the bloodless job-killer, the outsourcing Moloch of the industrial midwest, and the guy who poses with his Wall Street cronies with dollar bills in his mouth. People who claim to be interested in “character” should remember that.

A worker vacuums Mitt Romney off the stage floor after last night’s debate (Saul Loeb/Getty)
****

NYT Editorial: …. the president was crisp in reciting his accomplishments and persuasive in explaining how he has restarted economic growth. Instead of letting Mr. Romney get away with a parade of falsehoods and unworkable promises, he regularly and forcefully called his opponent wrong….
….. the most devastating moment for Mr. Romney was self-inflicted. Continuing his irresponsible campaign to politicize the death of the American ambassador to Libya, he said it took two weeks for the president to acknowledge that it was the result of an act of terror. As the moderator, Candy Crowley of CNN, quickly pointed out, the president referred to it as an act of terror the next day, in the Rose Garden. “Can you say that a little louder, Candy?” asked Mr. Obama, having fully regained his stride and confidence.

The Guardian: ‘Binders full of women’: Romney’s four words that alienated women voters
In the presidential debate, the Republican candidate was trying to show off his feminism-friendly credentials. Instead, he confirmed many people’s worst fears….
The Facebook group “Binders Full of Women” has, at time of writing, 212,484 likes. Mitt Romney’s daft boast has become a viral meme, complete with its own Tumblr and an avalanche of mocking tweets. It’s fair to say the second presidential debate did not go Romney’s way.
…. Romney’s attempt to paint himself as a feminist only proved he doesn’t know what the word means. That’s why whole binders full of women won’t be voting for him. And it’s why it’s now 219,270 likes.

NYT: …. Mr. Romney: “I want to make sure we get that for the record, because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror.”
At that point, Candy Crowley, the debate moderator, stepped in. “He did in fact, sir,” she said.
“Can you say that a little louder, Candy?” asked Mr. Obama.
Whoever coached Mr. Romney on that question did the candidate no favors. Here’s what the president said in the Rose Garden: “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.”….
The exchange left voters in the uncomfortable position of assuming that Mr. Romney either believes his own propaganda or doesn’t care whether what he says is true, which fits into the narrative that he’s willing to twist the truth for political gain.

Jonathan Capehart: No contest, Obama won Hofstra debate
…. Obama hit Romney on his economic plans, immigration stance, women’s health and equal pay. They sparred over energy policy. And when it came to Libya, Romney got clobbered…
…. the “amen” moment for Obama’s base came at the very end. In answering a question asking about a misperception of him, Romney answered by saying he cared about “100 percent” of the country. A clear reference to the damaging video that showed an unguarded Romney trashing 47 percent of the country as freeloaders. Obama didn’t let that go when he got the chance to answer the question. After saying he believes that Romney is a good man, the president pounced.
… With that, the Democrats and progressives who were venting their spleens at Obama on Twitter over his terrible debate performance on Oct. 4 were singing his praises. A tweet from @Myrone07 summed up the reaction perfectly: “Yeeesss! IM JUMPING UP AND DOWN! GO OBAMAAAAA!”

Steve Benen: What a difference 12 days makes … I never bought into the notion that President Obama needed to crush Mitt Romney in their second debate, effectively forcing the Republican to flee from the stage in tears. What the president needed to do was show some genuine fight – for his supporters, for his agenda, for his record, for reality, and ultimately, for his job.
Obama did all of that and then some last night, delivering the best debate performance of his career in national politics .…
…. In Denver, Obama had the substance on his side, but Romney’s style carried the day. Last night, it was the president who excelled in both….

Congratulation on 1st pugeretto
The fact checkers got to work and Romney was once again proven a LIAR. Binders Full Of Women has been trending since last night. Romney really knows how to piss off people.
UT, you are hilarious! G’day y’all, thank you Chipsticks, I’m on the road. Will be on the phone call with PBO this afternoon, even if I am sitting in traffic on hands-free! Catch y’all later!
Good Morning, Pamela. Drive carefully, my dear!
/Hmmmmm. I wonder what’s on the road?/ Speaking of on the road, Pink Bunny is out there too, too busy to check in. Boy, life sure gets in the way of TODville pursuits!
Morning, Chips and TOD!!
This place was rocking last night.
Thanks to everyone…you all were hilarious.
I was going between 3 sites last night, and all of them were just rocking!!
Another Congrats on the 14 million, Chips
Thank you rikyrah!!
Loved that moment—–I could tell by the look on PBO’s face that a smashdown was imminent. And it was.
And Mittster physically did a two-step backwards, checked PBO over his shoulder like “Shit-he-has-that-grin-on-his-face-and-I’m-about-to-be-smacked-down-again.” Wahahaha! My favorite moment though was at the very beginning when Mittster tried to get into PBO’s personal space!
I loved that moment also! The President was like..”keep talking, M*****F****R…I ’bout ta hand you your ass!
Thanks Chips for working so hard everyday to provide us with daily informative and uplifting news in what is happening Obamaland.
Great debate last night. Yes, I know “binders full of women” and “Lybia” were great moments but for me it was one of the last questions. It was a young woman that asked, ” Mr. Romney I do still attribute the mess we are in to many of President Bushes policies.” “Can you tell me what you would do different than President Bush?”.
The President went on to discuss the Dream Act, Privatization of Medicare and Social Security. He was masterful in his response.
He beat Willard over the head with that Bush. That whole riff off of how extreme Willard was compared to even the Shrub was just rhetorical mastery.
I missed the party last night as my computer was overworked over on Twitter. It seems as if it was great party. I loved POTUS and the can of whoop a$$ he put on Rmoney. There was enough chest thumping to satisfy everyone.
a most excellent day, and with that, i bid you all a good morning, afternoon and evening. Goodnight TODers
Is fucking tomasky feeling sorry that mittbot didn’t win last night ?
ROMNEY’S BREATHTAKING DISRESPECT: “You’ll get your chance in a moment. I’m still speaking.”
America Has Now Met the Many Romneys, and America Knows They Can Get Their Asses Kicked: At the Debate
By Charles P. Pierce
————————————-
But not even I expected Romney to let his entitled, Lord-of-the-Manor freak flag fly as proudly as he did on Tuesday night. He got in the president’s face. He got in Crowley’s face. That moment when he was hectoring the president about the president’s pension made him look like someone to whom the valet has brought the wrong Mercedes.
“You’ll get your chance in a moment. I’m still speaking.”
.
.
And Romney bitched endlessly — endlessly — about the rules, and why this uppity fellow on the other stool was allowed to speak before he was spoken to, and why he didn’t get to speak at length on whatever he wanted to speak on because, after all, he is the CEO of the stage. Jesus Christ, I’d hate to play golf with the man. He’s the guy who counts to make sure you don’t have too many wedges in your bag. He knows every cheap subsection of every cheap ground rule, and he’ll call you on every one of them. You couldn’t get a free drop out of him with thumbscrews, and forget about conceding any putt outside two inches. And then, on the 18th hole, with all the money on the line, he kicks his ball out of the rough and denies up and down to the rules committee that he did it. Then he goes into the clubhouse bar and nobody sits with him.

This is a guy that pushed a new mom out of the way to win a race and cuts in the front of the line to eat before the kids do.
He’s an entitled jackass used to having (and getting!) his way.
He’d make an awful president because he’s a dictator and would feel WE work for HIM.
Yes, Ladyhawke, this particular exchange, along with the eyebrow wagging by Romney during the Libya exchange was a real low for me. It just pointed out that Romney the bully never got therapy to correct his bullying behavior. He was rudeness personified and I totally DISLIKED the person behind that face. I hope America saw that too.
So mad at this, still…
Ah, the morning after. Trust everybody went to bed with smiles on.
Now, please can we never, ever stress about PBO again? He was masterful- he had the facts, the swagger, the humor- all the right “optics” to set Romney’s ass on up on the porch, where the little dogs lie.
TWITTER BRIGADE ALERT
How The Mainstream Media Is Covering Up Mitt Romney’s 12 Million Jobs Debate Lie
By JEREMY HOLDEN (Media Matters)
———————-
Major print media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal, erased Mitt Romney’s discredited lie that his economic agenda will be responsible for 12 million new jobs in 4 years from the debate record. In fact, independent analysts have said that Romney cannot support his own math, and some economists say the economy is already on track to create that many jobs.

to add to your quote – this is what I just read – and Mitt Romney was unbelievably rude and insulting to his President – he treats anyone – other than white millionaires as dirt under his feet – he is despicable – the POS that has been mentioned – the worst of all possible GOP nominees. A disgusting excuse for a person. If someone from another country treated the President in this fashion it would be an invitation to the worst possible repercussions.
“You’ll get your chance in a moment. I’m still speaking.”
…… The guy he was speaking to on Tuesday night is a man of considerable international influence. Outside of street protestors, and that Iraqi guy who threw a shoe at George W. Bush, I have never seen a more lucid example of manifest public disrespect for a sitting president than the hair-curling contempt with which Romney invested those words. (I’ve certainly never seen one from another candidate.) He’s lucky Barack Obama prizes cool over everything else. LBJ would have taken out his heart with a pair of salad tongs and Harry Truman would have bitten off his nose.
Shoot. Fast forward to the 2:25 mark to hear him talk about Romney. It’s brilliant.
Oh, and chips…..much congrats on your milestone. So many comments to catch up on, being away a bit, and my thanks as well for all you do. Love, love, love the look on PBO’s face, top pic. Brother’s got skills !!
First of all, GM TOD, the home of patriotic Americans and well wishers from around the world. A place where the truth matters, justice matters and the hostess with the mostest presides.
I will admit, following my normal routine, I did not watch the debate last night, believing that what matters more than the debate itself is the reaction to the debate. As a result, I followed in in 3 places, here, BJ and Sullivan’s site. I knew that, no matter what, that the opinion here would be that PBO came out on top. That was also true here the first debate. However, there was a decided difference in the energy level here last night, an ebullence that showed more than the words could say. That told me that PBO did not only win, but kicked some reall ass.
BJ is, of course one of those interesting places which, although almost universally pro PBO, still has skeptics who were ready to be negative towards the President. Other than a couple comments directed at a couple specific comments by PBO, none of which were major, the atmosphere there was almost as celebratory as it was here.
Finally, we all know that Sullivan was one of the major pushers of the “PBO crashed and burned and has doomed us” meme after the first debate. I was curious to see how he was responding in real time to the debate. He was, to put it simply, ecstatic.
What does this all mean? Will it result in an improvement in the polls? Will it be the straw that broke Romney’s campaign. Time will tell.
However, what is interesting is how it will play out the next couple of days. That is when the real damage was done after the first debate, not in the debate itself. And early indications are that last night may well have been more devasting to Romney than the first debate was to PBO. Criticism is one thing, and that is what PBO received after the first debate, to some degree (although not to the level it reached) deservedly so.
However, mockery is something else, and that is what is happening now. Mockery of the “binders of women” statement. Mockery of his attempt to catch PBO on the Benghazi incident, only to have it blow up in his face. Mockery for trying to browbeat Crowley. Mockery of his opening himself to the 47% response from PBO.
Here is what it ultimately comes down to. Last night PBO showed to the world that he continues to be worthy of the mantle of President of the United States and Commander-in-Chief. Romney showed he is not ready for prime time.
Thanks Japa. I also have to say that Candy Crowley, to her credit, exceeded my expectations. I think she did a decent job as a moderator, and certainly a better job than Lehrer.
At least the left is happy and not inflicting consistent damage (except Bill Press and Eliot Spitzer who CANNOT let it go).
I was not happy with the headline news from CNN I believe that they play on Chicago progressive radio. They said PBO ‘edged’ out Romney and started the report with how well Romney talked to his supporters.
So we have our job to do to NOT let the RW and the complicit media re-write what happened last night.
Watch how Republicans do it: they are praising their awful candidate today. The left had to whine and whine and whine. At least PBO ‘delivered’ to their specifications and our side is united.
So keep tweeting, talking and do not cede a nanosecond of pushback. We’re writing the narrative!
THERE ARE AT LEAST 11 DEBATE LIES FOR JOURNALISTS TO HIGHLIGHT
Will Media Fact Checkers Rise To The Romney Debate Challenge?
By Mike Burns, Todd Gregory, & David Shere
———————————–
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney rehashed at least 11 previously debunked claims during the second presidential debate that ranged from the economy to gun rights. This continued dishonesty, coming on the heels of a campaign official saying they would not be “dictated to by fact checkers,” presents a challenge to the media.
At Least 11 Romney Debate Lies For Journalists To Highlight

I love love love love love me some PBO, VeepJoe, Sec C, UNAmbSR and of course, my sista Stephanie Cutter. PBO kicked some serious ass last night. And mittnocchio’s metaphor for women’s issues is a “binder full of women” – what a dumbass. I’m taking BIG BIRD and a binder when I go EARLY vote on Saturday.
VC – thanks, I don’t know about everyone else, but I had major stomach problems trying to listen to Mitt last night….as Ladyhawke said, “The Breathtaking Dissrespect” was a first. Mitt’s personality problem is real reason he never made it in politics. Anyway, PBO went it and took care of business. MItt was so offensive, and the crowd gasp could be heard is what is being said on Stephanie Miller Show now.
I taped it and watched it afterwards. I actually had to start fast forwarding and muting Mitt about 20 minutes in, so I forfeited the joy of hearing the crowd gasp. I can’t stomach listening to Mitt’s lies and his condescending tone. I’ll just take everyone else’s word for it.
I have it on tape too and plan to rewatch it although I believe I will miss Obama’s closing as I did not choose to add more time to the end and it went over. I had a bad stomach-ache but I thought it was because I sooooo wanted PBO to do well and I didn’t trust Mitt. I actually have found myself hating him. Honesty is my number one virtue I desire in any relationship. I cannot bear to think of ever having him be the POTUS.
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/10/16/romney-coerces-women-on-pregnancy-adoption-choices/ Pass this on. No woman, or any man that loves and cares about them, should EVER vote for this man!
“Binder full of women ” means that women are not employed in Willard’s administration. Willard does not respect women. Work all day and come home to make dinner. Barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen mentality.

Say WHAT????
But the best line of the night was when PBO said that gas prices could well go down to where they were when he took office. Just elect Robme and he’ll tank the economy just like Bush did.
Loved that too, a gem of a line!

Okay no surprise here but whatta ya know…Romney lied about the #binderfullofwomen!
{Snip}
Not a true story.
What actually happened was that in 2002 — prior to the election, not even knowing yet whether it would be a Republican or Democratic administration — a bipartisan group of women in Massachusetts formed MassGAP to address the problem of few women in senior leadership positions in state government. There were more than 40 organizations involved with the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus (also bipartisan) as the lead sponsor.
They did the research and put together the binder full of women qualified for all the different cabinet positions, agency heads, and authorities and commissions. They presented this binder to Governor Romney when he was elected

And this is right leaning poll-
So, it may be 4-5 points.
Love, love, love that man, our Pres”O”dent? PBO took ShitMitt down one vertebrate at a time. PBO frayed Mitt’s ass last night..what a worthless son of a bitch. So very very proud of our Pres”O’dent!
GM, TODers! Great morning it is – thank you Chips for all the great articles to tweet. I was tweeting all last night and couldn’t come to this site too and still listen to the speech but knew you were holding down the fort. Forward2012 – the President did was he always does, come through for all of us.
Good info-
It’s still very early in the early voting process, but at least for now, Democrats can be optimistic that they are building a lead in the 2012 presidential race.
Absentee and early voting data from nine states that are generally viewed as competitive at the presidential level show Democrats requesting and returning more absentee ballots than they did in 2008 in Florida and Iowa. And in Iowa, where in-person early voting has already begun, those numbers are also strong for Democrats.
In other states, the picture is too incomplete to be drawing too many broad conclusions at this point.
“There’s certainly something going in on these states where more Democrats are casting mail ballots than Republicans, at a comparable point in 2008,” said Michael McDonald, an early voting expert at George Mason University. “It’s happening in Florida … and it’s happening in Iowa.”
http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/10/15/why-the-early-vote-looks-good-for-democrats/
Are there any numbers and party lean on early voting in FL jovie ? You know like, Iowa ?
44-40 republicans, but in 08 republicans had a 16 point lead in absentee voting.
Early voting starts the 27th.
Ah, thanks jovie.
http://www.eclectablog.com/2012/10/how-barack-obama-threaded-the-town-hall-needle-and-got-america-to-be-outraged-at-mitt-romney.html
Just like Joe Biden invented a new way to debate liars last week, President Obama figured out a way to go on the attack in a way that seemed compassionate and strong at the same time without coming across as too aggressive. How did he do this? By being angry, and helping the audience to be angry, that his opponent wasn’t compassionate.
He did it when it comes to tax fairness.
He did it with regard to the rescue of our domestic vehicle manufacturers.
He did it when it comes to immigration.
He did it with regard to China.
He most certainly did it with regard to the War on Women. And when Mitt Romney was tripping all over himself, talking about his “binders full of women”, President Obama deftly got out of the way and let him fall flat on his face.
[By the way, that whole "I wanted more women in my administration so I asked for suggestions and got "binders full of women" bit? That's utter bullshit (i.e., a lie.)]
Chris Savage@Eclectablog
I’ll know I’ve entered the 1% when I get my first #bindersfullofwomen

But, probably the most profound example was when Mitt Romney, once again and in shameless form, used the attacks on our embassies and the murder of our embassy officials and diplomats, to score political points. President Obama was having none of it and he brought us along with him in his righteous anger:
Thanks, Chris!
I enjoyed reading this diary. Tipped and Rec’d!
Notice two people in the background from the “undecided” audience who are smiling at our first couple. I LOVE FLOTUS’ outfit
To all our Carolinians here, or TODers who have friends and family in NC –
Yes we are Fired Up and Ready to Vote.
To AMK, above. My favorite line last night was PBO’s steely gaze encouraging R-money to “Please proceed, Governor.” Says so much about PBO, not the least that he *listens*, doesn’t need to be the one talking.
Fav tweet was from John Heilmann: “Please proceed, governor” is the new “Fuck you.”
And I love PBO’s expression on the front page of today’s LA Times:
http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/hr.asp?fpVname=CA_LAT&ref_pge=gal&b_pge=1
LOL. I saw your tweet and RT’ed it. Zinger of the day.
Yes! I said last night that that phrase is going into my personal repertoire. Whenever somebody is fucking up — “Please proceed, governor.”
You could see Willard’s circuitry shorting out at that very moment. Delicious.
Favorite Chips! Off to do stuff, will be back tonight, FORWARD folks!
See ya later pugeretto!
When I think you have the best – you go that one step higher – this is perfect
it’s past midnight here – a wonderful day for the President
One of the 47% Mitt Romney was talking about .
Yesterday, I was still smarting over my Chargers coughing up a hairball against the Broncos. Then, two things put a smile back on my face:
First was the President’s masterful performance against Smirky McBullywhine. He was calm and measured when he needed to be, but when he about to put Mitt in his place about Benghazi, I turned to my wife and said, “Watch this. He’s about to open a can on him.” And it was perfect. He showed anger without coming across as the “Angry Black Man.” He played offense all night and kept Romney sullen, defensive and six shades of pissed. It was a thoroughly satisfying way to spend an evening.
Oh, the other thing? The U.S. beat Guatemala to move on to the Hexagon. So, the Yanks and the Obama campaign are going in the same direction: FORWARD.
Amk, why is my Firefox slower than Romney’s ‘brain’ today? Come on, come on – I demand answers. (I’m on the latest version, so no excuses).
I toldja vc will break the innernetz.
wimmin/smh
The latest is 16.0.1. What is your version ?
Your claiming ‘I’m on the latest version’ doesn’t cut it.
I wondered about VC alright, I’m going to check to see if she has an alibi. I’m on that version, finding it even slower than the previous one – maybe it doesn’t help that I have 96 windows open?
It’s just a flipping browser, not a mule.
Thank you for that amk, you sound like the fella on the techy helpline I called a while ago.
A pilot is flying a small, single-engine, charter plane with a couple of really important executives on board into Seattle airport. There is fog so thick that visibility is 40 feet, and his instruments are out. He circles looking for a landmark and after an hour, he is low on fuel and his passengers are very nervous. At last, through a small opening in the fog he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. Circling, the pilot banks and shouts through his open window: “Hey, where am I?”. The solitary office worker replies: “You’re in an airplane.”. The pilot immediately executes a swift 275 degree turn and executes a perfect blind landing on the airport’s runway five miles away. Just as the plane stops, the engines cough and die from lack of fuel. The stunned passengers ask the pilot how he did it. “Elementary,” replies the pilot, “I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100% correct but absolutely useless; therefore, I knew that must be Microsoft’s support office and from there the airport is three minutes away on a course of 87 degrees.”
We engineers don’t care for plebes. We worship queen ann.
90′s my limit. You have to draw the line somewhere. 96 is probably a tad too many open windows.
I just saw a tweet from someone who says Firefox crashes all the time with the new version. I haven’t upgraded yet (was going to ask amk if it was ‘safe’ to do so) and I think I’ll stay with the previous version.
Hi 57, I saw amk say the other day that Firefox had fixed the problem with the new version and it’s safe to use. I just find it incredibly slow, it grinds to a halt half the time, although I do put it under a lot of pressure! Reluctant to change yet, I’m too used to it – we’ll see how it goes.
I just feel more comfortable with Firefox over anything else. I’ve had precious few problems with it. I use Chrome at work and the intertubes are slow everywhere this morning. Who knows why.
Don’t listen to the irish. I updated to version 16.0.1 coupla days back. The speed increase is noticeable. Zero probs for me so far.
You are my guru on these things. I’ll upgrade. Sorry, Chips, I have to trust amk on this one.
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/10/17/1030581/at-last-nights-debate-romney-told-31-myths-in-41-minutes/
During the first presidential debate in Denver, Colorado Romney managed to tell 27 myths in his 38 minutes of speaking time. But at his second encounter with Obama in New York, the GOP presidential candidate — who has run a post-truth campaign from day one — outdid himself and crammed 31 myths in 41 minutes:
Pass this around….
ROMNEY’S BINDERS FULL OF WOMEN (A must, must see website created with warp speed by American Bridge.)
By American Bridge
——————————-
During the second presidential debate, Mitt Romney was asked a question about pay equity for women.
Rather than admit that he has refused to say whether he would have signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and that his running mate voted against it, Romney instead spoke about being given “whole binders full of women” to consider when his closest advisers were incapable of identifying qualified women for his cabinet.
But as governor of Massachusetts, Romney neglected to elevate women to the bench by disproportionately nominating white males for judicial appointments.

I’m so happy about last night. I was worried to tell you the truth. I was expecting that President Obama would perform very well, but wasn’t sure he would be able to score so many points against Romney, because Romney is such a sleazy salesman and such a bully. Wow, wow. President Obama was pitch perfect, assertive yet controlled, using humor a couple of times. Looking SO presidential. And he got under Romney’s skin and made him make mistakes.
The only concern I have is that Romney could still fool people because he presents himself as the candidate of “change”. There was a good article yesterday by a dems pollster who warned that President Obama should go further in describing his plan for the next four years and not let Romney win the “change” contest. If I’m not mistaken, Romney will make a speech on the economy in a couple of days. The media will cover it. The Obama campaign has to respond to that. Maybe a big interview on the national media ??
Talking about the media… We have said numerous times that they want a “horse race”. I think we’ll see this week that’s not necessarily true. They push for a “horse race” if the republican candidate is behind. “Oh, this will tighten up”, “Romney has a chance to rebound”, etc. But now that Romney was having some momentum, watch for the media trying to protect him and say “Oh Obama didn’t do enough to stop Romney’s momentum”, “The second debate won’t have any effect”, etc…
The effects of yesterday won’t appear in the polls right away, because pollster question people on multiple days so a poll published tomorrow or thursday will contain answers from pre-debate days. So let’s be sure we force the media to acknowledge that.
The only concern I have is that Romney could still fool people because he presents himself as the candidate of “change”
Romney is not fooling ANYONE. People who claim to like Romney’s policies at this point are largely Republicans who would have voted for Romney or against Obama, no matter what.
Consumer confidence…up

Romney down:) Clean up on Aisle 1 !!!
tweeting alla that!
Share Market – way up
Deficit down…..lowest in 4 years.
Just another quick note. Yesterday, I said we shoudl try to hit 15 million before November 6. Chips questioned if that woudl be possible. I mentioned that we woulod need to average 47,617 per day. Well, in the last 24 hours, there have been 49,138 hits. I realize it is due to the debate and the euphoria this morning, but I still think it can be done. Let’s get out there and promote TOD.
You’re eagle-eyed Japa! Thanks a million.
Mission accepted!
I forgot to say…. I can’t wait for the rallies today !!! The energy will be incredible !!
How can anyone be undecided? What do they need to make a decision? My least favourite comment. ‘He doesn’t have a plan for the next four years.’ Do these folks live on Pluto? I had to go out to the end of the Galaxie because I am sure that even the Mars rover would have a clear cut answer by now. Romney is a loser and PBO the most well rounded and fair minded man the US has seen in decades.
At this point, the friggin’ undecideds is such a miniscule number that it is a dot. Fuck’em.
Amen!
Cher has been on a MAJOR HIGH since last night!
When PBO made the veiled comment “I want my two daughters to have the same opportunities as anyone else’s sons” you KNOW he was referring to Willard’s five spoiled brats.
Yup.
Read earlier on local news site that students began lining up at 5:00 last night for Obama’s appearance at Cornell College today. Enthusiasm Gap!
MITT ROMNEY IS THE “THREE FACES OF EVE” USED CAR SALESMAN
I am not a big fan of Howard (my sources on the hill say blah blah blah) Fineman, but last night he made a salient point. What we saw last night was “THE MECHANICS” of the Mitt Romney strategy exposed for all to see. In the first debate, the media and some one the left (I’m looking at you Tweety and Ed Schultz) hopped on the bandwagon that Romney had won. The only person on the MSNBC panel who nailed the debate was Rev Al. He said that Romney lied throughout the debate and President Obama provided substantive responses. He questioned why style mattered more than the facts. But the beast must be fed so everybody ran with Mitt Romney being the comeback kid because of STYLE. Meanwhile, he lied his arse off but that wasn’t important.
But in the second debate President Obama exposed Romney’s lies and hypocrisy at every opportunity. He called him a liar without calling him a liar. And now, finally we are not just looking at style we are looking at what was said. In last night’s debate President Obama won on style and substance. He was forceful, he was factual, he was substantive, he was presidential. Mitt Romney’s “style” was smart alecky, snarling, whiny, arrogant, disrespectful and full of falsehoods. I couldn’t help but think about the movie “The Three Faces of Eve” watching the debate. For me, Romney is like a used car salesman with multiple personalities. Scary…..
Good morning, fellow commies, feministas and Obama Lovers!!!!
I’m feeling kinda FIRED UP.
I’m feeling like I’m READY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
POTUS wiped the hideous grin off that weasel but GOOD. Let’s finish the job. FORWARD!!
Moooooooorning Meta! Are you in a binder at the moment?
I think Romney’s butt is pinched in a binder at the moment. Can you believe that idiot? From the smirks to the robot walk, to the tone and the phony concern, the condescension, he just fell apart one screw at a time.
A great read at BJ on the debate. She is always funny.

Chips – you are EXTRA fired up today!!
Ha, it’s a beeeeeeeeaaaaaautiful day Hopefruit, all is good with the world!!

That is just BRILLIANT!!!!
GM TODer’s and CHIPS, just catching up on the threads. AMK good advice to Chips, I can’t use Firefox at all anymore, it intereferes with all my other prgrams, but then I don’t have 96 windows open. Chips, that had me on the floor howling, also now I know why you work so hard, and your site is so great. (((((((((hugs))))))). Love you.
I like to compare and contrast because it ALWAYS tells me where someone’s agenda truly lies, case in point, Nate Silver.
After Debate # 1:
After Debate # 2:
So Romney had a “strong” debate performance, but Obama only had “narrow advantage” in polls. Nothing about Obama’s performance which was FAR superior to Romney’s first performance.
Nate Silver is finished with respect to credibility. He sold out, and like Romney, thought people were too stupid to notice – or care.
To be fair… in the insta-polls where democrats and republican supporters can vote, what happens is that republicans NEVER acknowledge when their candidate has had troubles; they will vote for him ANYWAY. So when a democratic candidate has a big win, the polls don’t reflect the reality.
Nate just takes the numbers as they are. Doesn’t take into account the distortion coming from republican partisanship. Come to think of it, neither does the media.
In other words, nate now thinking like the typical bw klowns. What a shameful for an obviously brilliant man.
“Nate just takes the numbers as they are.”
Nice try, but that’s simply not true. Nate wasted no time last night declaring a CNBC instapoll as “unscientific” and “shouldn’t be retweeted” because it showed Obama with a much larger lead, compared to the CBS and CNN polls showing PBO with a much narrower lead. There were several other polls, including ABC, WaPo, etc showing a much larger lead for PBO, and Nate did not include them in his assessment.
So Nate in fact cherry picks his polls when it suits him, even as he tries to lecture folks about cherrypicking polls.
This is the line I’m hearing everywhere — a ‘narrow’ edge.
It’s the standing MSM talking point – which tells me that this was the ROVE/KOCH/RNC memo for the desired narrative. And Nate Silver is now part of the MSM, with the same corporate agenda.
At least we made the emoprogs happy. If we stay united we blunt their lies and spin.
LOL. Something tells me that as you wrote this comment, you were thinking of someone with the initials A.S.
Me? Naw……………..
In the second video in the Actually… series, W. Kamau Bell explains why he hates science just like Mitt Romney.

MITT RYAN = TWO PEAS IN A POD
First we had Paul Ryan lying about his marathon race time and now we have Mitt Romney lying about his binders full of women.
Good day Chips, everyone – lots of smiles today!!!
And, to repeat one tweet from yesterday late evening …..
#FORWARD
Great gettin’ up morning! Hoooowdy ya’ll!
the word “Service”
I became confused when I heard the word “Service” used with
these agencies:
Internal Revenue ‘Service’
U.S. Postal ‘Service’
Telephone ‘Service’
Cable TV ‘Service’
Civil ‘Service’
State, City, County & Public ‘Service’
Customer ‘Service’
This is not what I thought ‘Service’ meant.
But today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he
had hired a bull to ‘Service’ a few cows.
BAM!!! It all came into focus. Now I understand what all those
agencies are doing to us.
You are now as enlightened as I
am.
Ooooo, that might be a spot o’ fun, eh what?
Number of new Latino voters up 22.8% over 2008!
-Pew Hispanic Center
Wow, 22.8%?!
This morning-after, I am basking in the afterglow — just enjoying replaying Romney’s deer-in-the-headlights moment about Libya: “You said WHAT in the Rose Garden?????!!??” Oooohh, loved it!!!
A completely sublime moment Annie!
I guess, cspan 1 and 2 are going to play R&R rallies momentarily, the President and Joe Biden, not so much.
What’s up with that?
CSPAN will be livestreaming our President at Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IOWA @ 12:45PM ET today, and in Athens, OH at 6:00PM ET. Both speeches will also be carried LIVE on CSPAN one TV
http://www.c-span.org/Campaign2012/Events/Pres-Obama-Campaigns-in-Iowa-and-Ohio/10737435018/
Hi Jovie, C-Span are showing both PBO’s speeches, will post the links soon.
Great tweet Edwina. RT’ed and also spreading far and wide (ok, just BJ)
From Al Giordano’s Facebook:
Al Giordano: Ah, now I’m seeing something that could be fatal for Governor Windvane. Focus group people saying he tried to politicize a tragedy and didn’t respect the commander in chief. That’s big.

Romney has a chillingly angry visage in this picture.

Thank you, JER!
Doh! Beat me to it! You’re a treasure.
It’s an excellent piece – required reading for everyone who wants to see the excellent ground work of the Obama grassroots movement continued after 2016. Thanks LL
Just doing a quick drive by to pimp my new piece on TPV: http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2012/10/the-obama-moment-and-obama-movement.html
Busy morning, will dig into the goodies later.
Tweeted it!
Early voting started in Tennessee today. My mother and I went to the high school to do our voting and I guess I’ve never gone on the first day before. We thought maybe we would be the first ones there and be in and out. Shame on me, the parking lot was full and the line was quite long in the building. Sorry, no pictures. We will go back later this week. FORWARD!!!!
Also, went to get the information for voter ID that the nice people in Nashville ran through. The address for the Secretary of State Division of Elections is on Rosa L. Parks Ave. Irony much.
Local stream is up for President Obama in Iowa: http://www.kcrg.com/streaming2
Scroll down the comments on the stream page and there’s a 1 min video from a Romney support who was bringing signs to protest PBO’s visit. At the end he had a bit of a Freudian slip. Said they’d be “doing this for another 3 weeks until Obama, er Romney is elected.” Haha, dude, always go with your first instinct. In this case, it was right on the money! Obama WINS!!!
Good advice.
