16 Days To Go

No, no – that’s not Amk, Yardarm, Liberal Librarian or Japa: say hello to Iron Fist.

He will, very kindly, be helping me run the blog for the next 16 days, and he’s vowing to take no nonsense. At all. He’s a fearsome fella too (even if, between ourselves, he looks sort of ridiculous – yellow boots? Sheesh, c’mon), so pay attention to what he regards as nonsense.

You know, stuff like:

* OMG! I just saw a Koch/Norquist Poll that showed Romney leading PBO 82-18 in Hawaii! We’re doooooooomed!

* OMG! My boyfriend’s sister’s boyfriend’s mother’s ex-husband’s daughter’s boyfriend’s father’s girlfriend’s cat’s vet’s neighbor’s shrink says he supported PBO last time, but now he’s not so sure! We’re doooooooomed!

* OMG! Only 30,000 people turned up to see PBO in Wisconsin, it was 30,001 in 2008! We’re doooooooomed!

That kind of thing.

No more hand-wringing, no time for that now. Absolutely friggin’ none.

All that matters now is us using every last opportunity to persuade the (bizarrely) undecideds in our lives, by any means necessary, to support PBO, and GETTING OUT THE VOTE.

And so many of you are doing just amazing work on that front.

For that reason, then, I’ll be – pretty damn ruthlessly – blocking bullshit over the next 16 days from those only intent on trying to demoralize everyone.

That level of freakery-outery was perfectly okay a while back, but not now. Nooooooo ****ing way.

So, if you’re blocked – you’re blocked. And there’ll be no explanations, just move on somewhere else.

We’ll remain ‘happy clappy’ in our ceaseless efforts to re-elect PBO; you can carry on being ‘doomy gloomy’ in your miserable anticipation of a Romney presidency. At least we’re fighting the good fight.

It’s been an incredible week for the blog, over 200,000 views since Tuesday, but a bunch of them have been from trolls trying to post under a string of different names, not realizing these things are a little obvious in the admin section of the blog, and lots have been from newcomers.

Sorry to all those genuine people whose comments haven’t been showing up – between now and election day the only newcomers’ comments allowed through will be by those who sign in with non-private and long-standing Twitter accounts. Everything else will stay in pending (which now, gulp, contains over 80 comments) until after election day. Apologies again, but it’s not easy distinguishing between anti-PBO trolls and the sensible folk.

Right then:

Let’s do this ;-)

Pamela and hf – thank you and I’ve just been having so much fun today doing what little I can, given my restrictive time issues, to support our community and President Obama.

I don’t know how you do it. You were one of the closers last night and it seems you’ve been the opener (I mean first) all throughout today. I love your new tweets focusing on the President’s accomplishments. With you and other twitter warriors we don’t need no stinking unethical media.

      • October 21, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Thanks, nath, and really appreciated your generous comment late yesterday evening.

We’re working essentially around the clock on our project, so I’m at the computer and keep tweetdeck and Chips site always open in one of my browser windows, so every time I get a min or 2 I try to fire off a tweet and check in here :) And, as the old saying goes, ‘don’t leave anything on the field’ and that’s certainly going to be my mantra from now until PBO and America are victorious 6 Nov.

You are most welcome, Bob. I am with you all the way. Since I don’t tweet I will be volunteering this weekend to call the battleground states — mainly Colorado and Nevada is what our OFA office focuses on. I wish we could add Arizona.

          • October 22, 2012 at 2:16 am

All those doing calls, like you nath, are making substantial contributions to the re-election of the President. Tweeting and donating are the little I can do given my schedule.

In the aggregate, we are ‘crowd sourcing’ this endeavor in a major way and for a purpose that literally will define America for the remainder of most of our lives.

I am not sure I will be here much as I really felt useful in Iowa this weekend so will be doing phonebanking as much as possible after work. So it means a lot to be able to come check in here and not get demoralized by one hair on fire comment.

I just referred one of my friends, Sally to this blog, so if she posted, I will ask her tomorrow and let her know what is happening. I got her to watch PBO’s speech about Romnesia, actually sent 2 other friends of mine the youtube address that you had, all 3 of them strong PBO supporters, and they LOVED it. I often reassure them based on the info I get from this site, and Sally wanted the site so she could check it out. Thanks again Chips for this place that keeps me sane. I see how important it is when I see my friends who love our President but believe the polls. They really appreciated the info I gave them that I got from this site. So what I am trying to say Chips is, this work you are doing is SOOOOOOOOOOO important, and freaking awesome! Thank you.

President Obama is certainly who America needs for a leader for the next four years.

But when you think about the man, I have to say that he has all the qualities a woman would want in a man. Besides his policies with regards to the rights of women, he’s kind, compassionate, smart, funny, great with kids, good looking and…..

    Chipsticks,
It might be too much to ask but would like to see a 16 day suspension of all punditry/carnival barkers comments. They do nothing to help the cause and generally are just shit stirrers. There is enough factual news, polls, speeches, debates, GOTV personal stories and endorsements and tweets from Obama supporters and campaign staff without the “opinionaters” . Example today would be posting the NBC poll with it’s findings but without Chuck Todd personal opinions added.

Hey all. Just got off the phone with the coordinator of tomorrows Debate. No, we will not get on the campus but will be lining the street the College is on with only PRO Obama signs. We are tired of the hate from the GOP and we will not follow their model. Also found out that Chris Matthews is not going to be at Lynn but at Mizner Park not far from there. I would rather stand in solidarity with our President then try to get Chris Matthews attention.

Calls in Palm Beach are going great! Lots of YES WE ARE VOTING. Nothing like this happened during the calls in 2010.
Well a little tired. I gave to both OFA and the Blue campaign today.

yes yes that was me and yes it’s my #2. she has the orange nail polish on. This was the white house photographer, not sousa, the bald guy. she’s sent me many pictures of the rally and she has one with the white house guy as well. That’s so funny you shared that. I “severely” questioned two cable guys at my house right before the ’08 election, and they both claimed to be voting for Obama, or maybe they just told me that so I’d stop badgering them! We need to get the voters wherever they land!

      • October 22, 2012 at 9:54 am

Ha! Yep can’t mess around or mince words when it comes to POTUS.. luckily these guys are friends of one of my sons & were not a real hard sell ;) . Last election I knocked on nearly 6000 doors in my town & made many phone calls right up to election evening. This year I’ve only been able to donate money due to my personal adventures of moving etc… but I try to talk to everyone I come in contact with on a personal basis & prompt them to vote.. and why POTUS is the best choice.

Before I left ND.. my lovely neighbor of nine years- wrote me a sweet letter and at the end of it (not a political guy at all) he wrote: GO Obama!! Which made my heart sing~

Well done Sherijr! Remember, every vote counts. Two weeks ago I helped a son of friends of mine to register to vote in California. He just turned 20. His parents are in Cincinnati, OH but has been going to college here in San Diego for two years. It felt so good. This will be be the first time he votes because he neglected to register in 2010. He is very excited. I don’t care what the pundits/pollsters are saying about the likely voters. I know many young people who are once again excited to be able to vote for the President.

“That level of freakery-outery was perfectly okay a while back, but not now. ”

Truth be told, it was never okay for me, and a primary reason why I started posting here a lot less. I’m glad that there’s going to be a clamp-down as the election draws near, but I feel that something like this should have been enacted months ago. I understand wanting people to feel free to post their opinion, as I am doing now, but this ridiculousness has been going on for a long time. To go one further, I can’t understand why certain posters have been banned in the past for this type of behavior, yet other regulars have been getting away with this same behavior for the past three or four years and nothing’s been done about them.

Well, that was my .02, and I’ll just be glad to see the hysteria-type posting cleared away for at least the next two and a half weeks.

    • October 21, 2012 at 9:40 pm

Fair enough Rita, but it’s never easy when you’re a running a personal blog to decide to ban regulars, it’s something you’re always reluctant to do – you’re torn between allowing people have their say and cutting out the crazy stuff. Getting the balance right is a challenge. Any way, good to see you after such a long time.

      • October 21, 2012 at 9:42 pm

Chips, there’s a reason why I would never run a blog, so I don’t mean to jump down your throat. I was able to express my opinion and you respected it, and I’m good. Thanks.

UPDATED: FRANK SHARRY: ROMNEY’S NEW SPANISH-LANGUAGE IMMIGRATION AD IS A “FRAUD”

by Van Le on 10/19/2012 at 12:08pm

    ———————-

Today, Elise Foley at Huffington Post reported that immigration advocates have called on Romney to take down the misleading ad:

Immigrant rights groups called Thursday for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to stop airing a Spanish-language television ad that debuted Wednesday, calling its claims that he worked with Democrats on immigration reform as Massachusetts’ governor and would do the same as president, misleading.

“Romney’s ad is a fraud,” Frank Sharry, executive director of pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice, said in an email. “The only permanent solution we know Romney will advocate is ‘self-deportation,’ which is code for a purge of millions of hardworking Latino immigrant families.”

Romney vetoed Massachusetts’ version of the Dream Act, which would have given in-state tuition to some young undocumented immigrants, Sharry pointed out.

Thank you so much Miss Chips for keeping this site troll free. It will be crazy enough getting thru the next 16 days.

Today I made some calls to Colorado. Many not home only 1 who voted early for Romney. All the rest but 1 had either already voted or had the ballot on there table to be filled out today. My one interesting call was to a lady who was handicapped and didn’t have anyone to help her vote and she really wanted to. I told her I would get someone to help her. I looked up the Boulder OFA office and called the first name on the list. I gave her the ladies name and phone number and the worker said they would take care of it. I then called back the lady I had talked to and gave her the OFA office’s phone number and told her they would call her. She was so thankful. Said she really wanted to vote for PBO because she new he understood her needs.

It was so fulfilling to know you helped get one more vote. Fired up and ready to go!!!!!

  45. October 21, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Hello TOD family – we’re almost there, it’s GOTV time. I spent two glorious days in New Hampshire, talking to voters and urging them to make their voices heard in this election. Our targets were mostly voters expected to support the President and the responses were predictably favorable. But the unexpected contacts were even more encouraging. A family had moved and new people had just recently come in. They were enthusiastic Obama supporters and so grateful for the information about voting in New Hampshire and the location of their polling place. Coming from a different state, they did not know that they could register and vote on the same day and that they did not need an ID with their new address, but could simply sign an affidavit and be allowed to vote. There were four adults in the household and four votes for President Obama! I might have been a little tired after walking for hours, but when I left their driveway, I felt like skipping down the road (quite a picture with this white haired canvasser!). Then there was the young woman who overheard my conversation with her neighbor and shouted to me that she, too, and her boyfriend were voting for the President. Another woman who had just recently relocated to New Hampshire seemed unhappy and told me that she was not going to vote this year. She explained that she simply could not believe anything she heard and that politics had become too ugly for her to participate. I pointed to her children who were playing in the yard and asked her if she wanted them to have the best education possible . She answered that, of course, her kids’ future was the most important thing for her and that she would do anything to keep them happy. So I wrote the OFA web address on a piece of literature and suggested that she look up information on education and health care. She took the pamphlet and said that she would check it out. She may still sit out the election, but at least I gave her something to think about.

Will we win in New Hampshire? I think so, and the reason will be the conversations that hundreds of volunteers, from several states, are having for the next 16 days. There is no poll and no pundit that can ever predict how this “ground game” can shape the outcome of an election.

Got my mail-in ballot on Saturday. I had gotten the Voting Pamphlet a couple of days earlier. I had studied the pamphlet so I knew how I wanted to vote on all of the measures and was pepared to vote the second my ballot arrived. After voting I went next door and made sure my Mom voted right away too. We both voted for PBO and the other Dems on the ballot. My brother, who lives with my Mom insisted on writing in Ron Paul. That tells you a lot about what I have to live with. My daughter who is currently living in Germany told me she voted this last week too. Yay!! I take the ballots into the post office tomorrow. Feels good to be able to vote for the best President ever.

Thanks for sharing, OG, and so glad you, your mom and daughter supported PBO and Dems. Regret your brother wasted his vote, but, at least he voted. Mailed my wife’s ballot and mine, yesterday – straight Dems + PBO/BIDEN at the top!

That is awesome Bobf. When PBO announced he was in favor of gay marriage, my D decided she had to vote for PBO because he truly believed in equality and that was the president for her. So now all five of us, my hubby of 29 years, and my 3 kids, 25, 22, and 20yrs old, are all PBO supporters. I feels good. 2 of them are in PA, and 3 of us will vote in CA, my D by mail from AZ. It feels really good, and I can not wait to go in person on Nov 6 to vote!!!

Vacationing in Hawaii, two priests decide to wear casual clothes so they won’t be identified as clergy. They buy Hawaiian shirts and sandals, and soon head for the beach.

They notice a gorgeous blond in a tiny bikini. “Good afternoon, Fathers” she says as she strolls by.

The men are stunned. How does she know they are clergy? Later that day, they buy even wilder attire consisting of surfer shorts, tie dyed T-shirts, and dark glasses.

The next day, they return to the beach. The same fabulous blond, now wearing a string bikini, passes by, nods politely at them and says, “Good morning Fathers.”

“Just a minute young lady.”, says one of the priests. “We are priests and proud of it, but how in the world did you know?”

The blonde replies, “Don’t you recognize me? I’m sister Katherine from the convent.”

A woman goes to the doctor for her yearly physical. The nurse starts with certain basic items.

“How much do you weigh?” she asks.

    “115” she says.

The nurse puts her on the scale. It turns out her weight is 140.

    The nurse asks, “Your height?”

    “5 foot 8,” she says.

The nurse checks and sees that she only measures 5′ 5″.

She then takes her blood pressure and tells the woman it is very high.

“Of course it’s high!” she screams, “When I came in here I was tall and slender! Now I’m short and fat!”

Thanks so much for setting the course Ms. Chips!

Earlier today I posted that the PA RFD was looking for folks to come to PA and give them a hand in this final stretch. Thank you to all who responded and are getting in contact with Phil.

Since I cannot go to PA and help my friend I decided to make 25 calls to PA today. I was actually able to speak with 6 people this afternoon. 5 were strong Obama supporters and one was undecided because of “Romney’s business experience”. I gently informed her about his record at Bain (outsourcing jobs) and his awful jobs creation record while Gov of MA (47 out of 50 states) along with a whole host of other deficiencies that the Mittster has. She was leaning Obama when we finished the call almost 20 minutes later. :) Also, one gentleman said he had 7 people living under his roof that would all be voting for PBO on November 6th. #PressOn TOD cuz we are moving FORWARD toward victory!!

Chips – This is my most favorite anti-freakery-outery comment of yours:

“We’ll remain ‘happy clappy’ in our ceaseless efforts to re-elect PBO; you can carry on being ‘doomy gloomy’ in your miserable anticipation of a Romney presidency. At least we’re fighting the good fight.”

A contrarian friend of mine in NJ said the same thing to me on the phone last week as she did before the ’08 election (she’s a strong Democrat and WILL VOTE for President Obama, as she did last time): “Oh, gee, it doesn’t look like our guy will win.” (There’s more, but that was her gist.) We talk infrequently, and will be chatting even less frequently now, through Nov. 6. I will not let anybody steal my damn joy. I am definitely “Obama happy clappy” and I’m glad there’s finally a name for that condition!

    • October 21, 2012 at 10:27 pm

Look, by polling numbers, Obama is still favored to win. I think what will surprise people is by HOW MUCH he will win. The “likely voter” model this cycle will be show, I think, to be crap. IBD/TIPP might have the inside skinny; Gallup will be shown to be a pro-GOP outlier.

      • 269 forus50
        October 21, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Gallup is back to using their dum dum (as Tina Fey would call it) traditional likely voter screen. Do you guys remember they had 2 likely voter screens in 2008?!? I remember being thoroughly confused as the were widely different. McCain and Obama had about a 5 point difference between the 2 likely voter polling methods. One was based on current intention on current election only and the other one considered current intention AND past election behavior. They both were crap at the end (predicting an 11 point win and Obama won by 7) so they were both dramatically incorrect. However, in late October 2008 the one that was reasonably accurate (with about a 5 point lead by Obama) was based on the voter’s current intention on voting (not past voting habits). Well, that’s not the one they are using this year. They are back to using the flawed one which is based in current intention and previous history of voting in prior elections.

    Question involving tax deductions:
How do tax changes come about? Does the President have anything to do with them or does the Congress vote on them or does the IRS make changes? I am trying to think of how to check out something my son’s business tax accountant told him about next year’s tax deduction changes on small businesses. It has to do with Obama’s tax plan, but I am skeptical due to all of the GOP leaning people pushing the be scared meme. How do I check this out? I want to squelch negativity that can easily be disproved.

    • October 21, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Congress makes and passes the legislation. The President either signs it into law or vetoes it. If he vetoes it, the Congress has to override or it’s dead.

Numerous tax deductions will expire in Jan 2013 if they are not renewed. That is why the President has been pushing Congress to pass a continuation of the tax breaks that will benefit the “98 %” now and debate those breaks that benefit the top ~ 2% either after the Election or in the next Congress. It is the GOP that is threatening both tax breaks that benefit small businesses and 100s of millions of Americans, not the President.

In keeping with Chips’ new diktat, a little Thomas Paine:

These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

What the Right considers patriotism is nothing but the most base jingoism. It’s a destructive idea. Love of country means perfecting it, making it more just, spreading its bounty to the maximum number of its citizens. That’s what we’re fighting for. FORWARD.

Adding more positive news here – I canvassed in Loudon County, VA, today, where I have gone pretty much every weekend. Our lists were voters thought to be Obama voters but the kind who might need a kick to get to the polls. More people were home (Sunday afternoon) than I get with my usual Sat. morning trips. Almost all good responses. All the Hispanic voters I’ve canvassed have been very positive, consistent with the polling we hear. I love canvassing where if you just listen and nod enough, the voter will come around – my first contact, an Asian woman, started out saying she just didn’t know. By the end she said, she thought Obama needed 4 more years to finish what he started. I think these conversations can help people sort out their own thoughts.

I would love to hear if Romney has any ground game at all. Last weekend I thought we had a Repub. walking our same neighborhood (white guy, golf shirt) but he turned out to be with the county Dems; thankfully, our lists were almost completely different. We saw a memo to Maryland Republicans that they were taking one whole bus (!!!) down to VA to canvass; I have to wonder if they had enough locals to drive them around when they got there. We always go in our own cars, usually just 2 folks who go out as a canvass pair. We had a good crowd this morning, and our departure point was just one of three in my county (the others are where the most politically active people live).

So I feel pretty good. My next step is to hound the families I know in VA who have kids away at college who need to vote absentee.

President Obama is set to appear on “The Tonight Show” later this week, in yet another attempt to appeal to voters who don’t follow the ins and outs of daily politics.

The president will head to Burbank, Calif., on Wednesday to tape his fifth appearance on his show — his third since taking office. It comes on the heels of an interview last week on another late night show, “The Daily Show.”

Obama was last on NBC’s signature program nearly a year ago, on Oct. 25, 2011. Though Jay Leno isn’t known for grilling his guests, the host did push the president in that interview to discuss the killing of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, which happened just days earlier.

Leno isn’t the only NBC personality talking to Obama this week. Anchor Brian Williams is set to spend two days following the president on the campaign trail and, according to the network, will conduct multiple interviews with Obama and get “rare, exclusive access.”

Great story. There are so many who are not politically involved/aware but know they don’t like Romney AT ALL. I think the debates are having a much bigger influence than in prior elections because of social media and people can watch in on their phone, etc. The one subject that was an IMMEDIATE ice breaker in the canvassing yesterday was “Did you watch the debate last week?” I don’t think anyone said no. One who said yes was filling out her registration form and apologized to me that she didn’t know which party Obama was (she needed to check the box).

So I hope Mitt is his usual arrogant, entitled, bullying, asinine self as I am sure there will be thousands like this girl in Iowa who just registerd who will vote not being aware of the issues or party but on the character of the person they want as their president.

I was just listening to a rerIun of “House” with half an ear, when I caught some dialogue about running for president. It was an episode about a black Senator running for President who gets sick – they think he has AIDS, but turns out to be something else. There’s a conversation about whether he can win and he says “I won’t win this time” implying that he’s running to pave the way for the next guy. I looked it up and it was filmed in 2005. I wonder if it was inspired by President Obama’s speech at the 2004 convention? I’m glad the screen writers got the ending wrong anyway!!

Hi TOD family. I have been thinking of the media a lot today. How they can manipulate what people hear and feel about what is going on in the presidential race. The story of Todd and Gregory and the Romney/press football game had me in a rage all day. I started to think..who do we have on our side in the MSM that weaves these stories about our guy? I started thinking…where has Oprah been this election cycle? Why has she not been out with our team? No TV spots that would appeal to American women and what this president has done for women? Where in the world is Oprah?

The New Yorker has endorsed PBO for reelection with an exceedingly well written editorial! Some highlights:

But the reëlection of a President who has been progressive, competent, rational, decent, and, at times, visionary is a serious matter. The President has achieved a run of ambitious legislative, social, and foreign-policy successes that relieved a large measure of the human suffering and national shame inflicted by the Bush Administration. Obama has renewed the honor of the office he holds.

Still, he proved a sophisticated and reliable diplomat and an effective Commander-in-Chief. He kept his promise to withdraw American troops from Iraq. He forbade torture. And he waged a far more forceful campaign against Al Qaeda than Bush had—a campaign that included the killing of Osama bin Laden. He negotiated—and won Senate approval of—a crucial strategic-arms deal with the Russians, slashing warheads and launchers on both sides and increasing the transparency of mutual inspections. In Afghanistan, he has set a reasonable course in an impossible situation.

The choice is clear. The Romney-Ryan ticket represents a constricted and backward-looking vision of America: the privatization of the public good. In contrast, the sort of public investment championed by Obama—and exemplified by both the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Affordable Care Act—takes to heart the old civil-rights motto “Lifting as we climb.” That effort cannot, by itself, reverse the rise of inequality that has been under way for at least three decades. But we’ve already seen the future that Romney represents, and it doesn’t work.

The reëlection of Barack Obama is a matter of great urgency. Not only are we in broad agreement with his policy directions; we also see in him what is absent in Mitt Romney—a first-rate political temperament and a deep sense of fairness and integrity. A two-term Obama Administration will leave an enduringly positive imprint on political life. It will bolster the ideal of good governance and a social vision that tempers individualism with a concern for community. Every Presidential election involves a contest over the idea of America. Obama’s America—one that progresses, however falteringly, toward social justice, tolerance, and equality—represents the future that this country deserves. ♦

oh thank the lord. don’t mean this to sound too harsh, but it’s about time. i was just about done with the comments sections here, since those here who seem to consider themselves stenographers for chuck todd, joe scarborough, and the rest of them, were allowed to continue to dominate these comments sections, despite repeated requests to stop.

just look at all the positive comments above about various g.o.t.v. activities and how uplifting it becomes. we could do this all the time and every day! i already know what those pundits who are being paid by the billionaires who own all the media are going to say and don’t need their false statements fed into my brain here. we elections now, and in the future, by what’s happening in this thread. just my 2 cents!!

I do not know how to close a campaign and win the election.

However, I wish that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee should cut one commercial emphasizing that during the gop-lep congress, the gop’s interest was on social issues such as abortion rather than jobs.

this commercial would say the dialogue that is similar to this:

    – remember when Congressman (woman) .—- said he/she needed your vote to create jobs?

    – well, here is the priority he/she choose in DC: 46 Yes votes for to restrict women’s reproductive rights 0 votes for jobs.

If possible demonstrate the actual votes with:

    – Mr/Ms … how do you vote on abortion restriction (Yes, Yes, Yes……).
    – Mr/Ms … how do you vote on job creation (No, No, No ….)

I am thinking of a clock which would count 46 seconds in the background – more like that Daisy Cutter commercial from the past

send it through each of the swing congressional district with a modification for each current sitting member of congress based on their voting record

A couple of thoughts that I had during dinner ….

We will ‘leave nothing on the field’ during the next 15 days and the victory we all achieve, together, will set the direction of America and humanity for many, many decades.

Thank you Chips for the community you have created and one that will contribute substantially to that victory.

I feel as if this was about me. I’m sorry if I offended anyone with my thoughts. Those who know me know I’ve been a fierce advocate of Pres. Obama for years now and have worked my butt off to see that he’s reelected. I believe he will be reelected. But my views might not align with everyone here and that’s all right. I just hope you know that I’m not trying to dispirit anyone … or depress ya’ll, because you know I think we’re going to win.

Please note this is not an internet poll, but a live telephone survey, like Zogby used to do years ago. This poll done by Wash. Times a RW newspaper, is credible, and like the Business Investor Daily, a conservative publication have given the best numbers to President Obama of late. The fact they are RW should divest them of partisan favoritism. Here PBO reaches 50%, a good sign.

carla4obama:Where in the world is Oprah/Powell?
I know Obama don’t want Oprah to hurt her business again. She shouldn’t have to appear in TV Ad, Everyone knows Obama and what he have done, save the United states, healthcare/banks reform, save GM, People the problem is he’s black Oprah can’t fix that. Those people like Oprah, Powell went through hell. Leave those people alone. You know this country is mess up about race. Some people who are racist but can’t see it, voted last time for Obama, because they Fear Palin, they don’t fear Mitt, The problem is the white vote, why is that?

      October 22, 2012 at 7:01 am

I believe Powell may make an endorsement (either for our guy or the “other”) after the debates tonight (Foreign Policy).
Oprah…not sure what happened to her voice this election. People may say we don’t need her voice, but having her out would be of help. At this stage we need people to voice their support for 4 more years. A lot of females respect Oprah, I was just wondering where she is.
I loved having her last time. Oprah….if you are out there!

I “kinda” agree with you, but not all white voters are as you describe and I certainly hope I am right…..I hope that there is a “quiet” white vote that b/c of the “ugly” out there are VERY afraid of R/R…women, elderly, and 50’s, in particular….I’m elderly, white, and terrified…not for myself but for my children and Grandchildren….I hope other Grandparents are feeling the same thing not to mention that personally, I think PBO walks on water.

Yup, that’s my reading too. The silent majority is going to produce a reverse Bradley effect and is going to backfire on mittbot spectacularly. I am standing by my +10 PV margin prediction.

      • October 22, 2012 at 8:30 am

It’s never smart to use all in a sentence, (but not all white voters are as you describe) Some people who are racist but can’t see it, is how I describe the voter. Some not all, There are some black people that not going to vote for Obama, Not all but some. The point was I know Oprah and Powell recieve a lot of hate, I don’t think they want to go through that again. Let’s keep hope alive

I replied above that one of her staff told me while we were canvassing that she has had many, many fundraisers for him. O campaign is managing the “celebrity parade” and she for sure would participate more publicly if asked. Everyone knows she’s supporting POTUS so they must have determined they need her for fundraisers.

    The numbers:

    D             Others            R

    31,401    9,683         18,106

    That’s 53-31.

In 2008, after two days, the total raw vote lead was 16,000, and it was 60-24.

So no wave, but still a substantial Democratic lead, and 7 points above registration. Democrats have turned out well above 2008 (27,000 vs. 31,000) but GOP has done even better relative to four years ago (11,000 vs. 18,000), albeit still well behind.

Democrats had an 83,000 raw vote lead at the end of two weeks of early voting in ’08; they won’t get there in ’12, but if they get to 50,000, they may have enough of a firewall to win the state for President Obama. Remember Obama ended up winning Clark by 123,000 votes in ’08 — so it was 50 percent above his end-of-early-vote margin. And he won the state by 12 points. If he wins Clark by substantially less this year, if he doesn’t get killed in Washoe, he will win again, but by a smaller margin.

        amk,
That was a long long time ago. That was before the first debate and right after the conventions. No one ever thought that Obama would win by that margin in Ohio – there’s just too many who have been Repubs all their life and won’t EVER change. For some of them it’s like asking them to change their religion. This poll today is EXCELLENT NEWS!!!!!!!!!

From the link: Mr. Obama holds a 50 to 45 percent lead over Romney among likely voters in the Buckeye State, down from a 53 to 43 percent advantage on Sept. 26. Three percent of likely voters there are undecided.

        http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57536922/poll-obamas-lead-in-ohio-narrows/?tag=socsh

I’m not sure I saw any poll with him 15 points ahead but even if there had been one it was at a “bump” stage. I’m thrilled with the numbers: He’s at the magic 50 with a 5 pt margin. He won by a little less than 5 in 2008. Can’t ask for much better than this.

          page 2

One in five Ohio likely voters in this poll say they have already cast their ballot, and the president leads Romney among this group 54 to 39 percent.

This voting is happening right now, isn’t it, after the first debate as well as the second debate? So in reality, he is leading by 15 points on voting in the real world while we are supposed to believe the make believe world of pollsters ?
