Helloooooooooooooooo Edwina – and Daiseymay and Xtine!
2nd & First!?
Comment over @ TPV on Saturday:
“…. I honestly believe in an untampered with vote count in Ohio PBO would win by about 3%-5%pts. I am hoping that awareness and knowledge of what is actually going on will actually be a positive for our side and help motivate even more supporters to GOTV. I have faith that even with some cheating on the other side we can still win this thing with large turnout. I have worked the ground with OFA Ohio since 2008 and can attest the Dem enthusiasm is big for this campaign cycle and we are greatly aware of what is at stake. We have a 20% lead in early votes at this point. I see PBO re-election signs all over town here in Columbus. We have been weary with the TeaGovernorship that Kasich has provided the past 2 years. We don’t want the same in a President and VP. That being said we are aware of the voting machine question so I am pretty sure campaign Obama is. What can be done about it? Your guess is as good as mine. All we can do is keep working the ground hard for PBO. Oh, I forgot to report that the Miami County Elections Commissioner has resigned here in Ohio under the immense pressure of this upcoming election. I am sure he is being pressured to CHEAT for a Rethug victory. Lots of *shit going on behind closed doors in our Teaparty controlled legislature and Gov Admin. Even with that I and thousands of others are still working our butts off to re-elect PBO.” — Keithnohio
Way to go Edwina!!!
The timing of this article was not accidental ….
#Mitt's being told to shut up & sit down about Iran & Libya by Efraim Halevy bit.ly/PlMvZD No More #Chickenhawk Wars cc @Lawrence— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) October 22, 2012
I’ve been tweeting and linking to this all day. It’s vitally important going into tonight’s debate.
Of course, words or facts won’t matter. It will depend on how ‘strong’ PBO looks. It appears that Mitt being and idiot, sounding like an idiot and acting like a douche doesn’t register with the MSM or a good many American people.
CW is that PBO must look ‘strong’ and ‘animated’ and ‘engaged’. No one says that Mitt, with zero foreign experience on his ticket, has to prove that he’s CiC material or sufficiently knowledgeable about the world and diplomacy to run the free world. Oh, wait. ‘Strong’. That’s good enough.
The fact that Mitt’s uninformed and unengaged warmongering is terrifying and destabilizing the world is of no consequence. Only how ‘strong’ PBO looks.
We’d have a national holiday for whatever Republican managed to do the job that PBO did and got rid of Bin Laden.
No President has been so challenged as PBO. It’s unconscionable. I want to blow that ‘likely voter’ model out of the God damned water. All Dem’s have to do is show the hell up and vote.
Righteous, justified disgust, 57! We are the ones who matter and we will re-elect President Obama. That’s just the way it’s going to be because the entire world is depending on us and we won’t let them, or our fellow citizens, down.
Yes We Can
Peeking in…..Please Please don’t let us down. I and a lot of other non Americans are rooting for you guys to put PBO back in office.
Double checking with family and friends to ensure they’re getting their azz to the voting booth.
Thanks for getting your family and friends to vote, smoothscotch!!! We won’t let you down.
Top 10 again?
PRESIDENT OBAMA’S POLICY SNAPSHOT OVERVIEW (Please share far and wide.)
GET THE FACTS AT WHITEHOUSE.GOV
Since his first day in office, President Obama has focused on laying the foundation for an economy built to last—creating jobs for American workers, cutting taxes for middle class families and small businesses, investing in education, manufacturing and American-made energy, and making sure everyone plays by the same rules, from Main Street to Wall Street.
When the President took office in January 2009, the United States was in the midst of a deep recession, losing over 800,000 jobs per month. The economic security of millions of middle class Americans was vanishing. While there is much more to do, private sector employers have now created 5.2 million jobs over 31 months.
Manufacturers are steadily adding jobs and the U.S. auto industry is once again leading the world. Middle class families have seen their taxes cut by thousands of dollars over the last four years. Millions of Americans have health care security they deserve, and have new protections against the abusive practices that led to the financial crisis.
Each policy snapshot has two sections: Progress, which gives you a quick overview of the work President Obama has done since taking office, and What’s Next, which helps you understand President Obama’s plans for continuing the progress underway.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA – “AN AMERICA BUILT TO LAST”
President Obama is working to build a country and an economy where we reward hard work, value fairness, and hold everyone accountable for what they do.
- Jobs and Economy
- Health Care
I couldn’t make it to the Broward event today but my friends son is attending. He and all of his friends are so excited. I won’t be here for the debate party but I know PBO will do well. Hope to be back online very late in the evening or early AM. 5 days before early voting in FLA!! I can’t wait to cast my ballot. :)

Bill, the media are projecting. It’s really the media that have an “enthusiasm problem.” And as Rahm pointed out, they also have an elitist problem.

Not sure if any of you read this…Roger Ebert’s thoughts on Mitt
Who do you believe–Mitt, or your lyin’ memory?
By Roger Ebert on October 10, 2012 7:46 PM
A depression has descended upon me. I look at the blank screen, and those are the words that come into my mind. I do not believe for a second that Mitt Romney will win the election. I do believe that at this moment he is tied, 50-50, in various national polls. Many of my fellow Americans have at least temporarily disappointed me….
Something that puzzled me is that there were no howls of protest from the Right. Romney now presented himself as the advocate of positions hated by the Right, and there wasn’t a squeak of protest from the conservatives who have been excoriating Obama on the same issues. Did they all reach a common consensus that if it was necessary for Romney to lie, then let him lie? The Right has been advising him for months to be true to conservative issues. That wasn’t working. Now he was being true to liberal issues…..
Obama continues in the Presidential campaign in possession of his own lifelong principles. Romney now seeks the luxury of running on both his principles–and Obama’s. What depresses me is that the polls suggest the electorate isn’t alert enough to realize that. What allows me hope is that, given a little time, I trust the American people will figure this one out.
The Republican’s Southern Strategy with the assist from the corporate corrupt Media is responsible for the ignorance of the electorate, the lazy electorate is being conned by a savvy etch-a-sketch Romney. I believe that Romney is very aware of what he is doing, he has perfected lying with conviction, he is not having altzheimer, he has good recall and knows how to talk in double speak and using double negatives in his sentences to confuse the electorate. The Republican electorate knows he is changing his positions but knows “wink wink” that if he is elected Norquist and the Republican congress will keep him on a short lease. Romney is also conning these very same people and using them as well.
“Romney has perfected lying with conviction”…that should be tweeted!!
Are a lot of Democrats supporting Romney in the polls? Seems like it. I thought there were more registered Democrats than Republicans, but the polls don’t seem to reflect that since President Obama and Romney are tied.
I hope that Democrats and Independents come to their senses and vote for their economic best interests. We, as a nation, cannot afford Romney in the White House, with Ryan as the VP, for 4 years.
Really LOVE the support Roger Ebert gives to PBO!
Love him too Jacqueline, he’s just terrific.
And influential, to a whole group of people! VOTERS!
I love Roger Ebert and have read his reviews and blog for years. He is a true liberal. I, myself, do not believe that the Presidential race is tied at 50/50. That is only the case if you believe the “likely voter” screen that is designed to low ball democratic participation. The fact is that early voting numbers have been execeptionally positive for PBO (in some cases outstripping 2008 numbers). The pollsters choose to ignore early voting, but my common sense will not allow me to. PBO’s approval rating among registered voters is over 50% (which used to mean alot, when the candidate was not PBO). Jeff Gauvin at JeffersonObama says that the “likely voter” screen that pollsters are using takes btw 5-7% from PBO’s support. He states that this is completely unrealistic and should be 1% at the most. If Mitt was winning with registered voters (which he is not), drawing bigger crowds than PBO (which he is not, his crowds are half the size of PBO’s) and winning in early voting numbers (which he is not), I would be inclined to buy this tied up race stuff. But again, my common sense combined with the well earned distrust I have for our corporate owned media, forces me to call bullshit on this supposed Romney surge. Think of it this way, if democrats really have an enthusiasm gap and republicans are so eager to vote, how does one explain the early voting numbers?
Well. That was a thoughtful op-ed if I ever read one. Well done! The bottom line for me is that we have (1) common sense, as you said, and (2) PBO as our candidate. I’m good.
Beautiful video. Thanks, Chips.
Hate to bring up trump on this site but he is running his mouth on Twitter about some big announcement he is scheduled to make on Wednesday! And Palin is endorsing it too! Any idea what it might be? Should I be worried?
It’s Trump, Proud: Ignore. He’s probably found proof that the President is black.
LOL! Thanks Chips, I needed this, I haven’t been sleeping very much. Hopefully I will be able to sleep peacefully after President Obama is reelected!
I will be grateful to return to the rest of my life Nov 7.
For now, nearly everything else but this election. is on hold.
The Electoral College is still firmly in President Obama’s favor. Sleep well!
Now Let’s see whether Chuck Todd/MSNBC will give this “BIG announcement” any legitimacy since he has dismissed the voting machine concerns as “Trump birtherism garbage.”
The garbage is name Chuck Todd.
Exactly — what do people do with garbage? They CHUCK it.
With that clown it could be anything and with the other dingbat endorsing it maynot be all that good. My question is who are Eli and Seth??
“Who are Eli and Seth??”
Huh? Watch the video and you’ll find out.
What on earth could he possibly “know” that everyone else doesn’t already know? Remember, the man is a fool and a buffoon. I absolutely don’t listen to anything he says.
It’s all o we that Attorney Gloria Allred has something on Romeny so Human waste decided to manufacture something just to take the media off Romney’s trail.

OT: RIP Bra Alf:
Alf Kumalo, legendary photojournalist and chronicler of South African life, has died aged 82
This was a guy who had done it all, from hanging out with Muhammad Ali while shooting Rumble in the Jungle (before turning down an offer to be Ali’s personal photographer) to capturing Oliver Tambo ringside at a boxing match and then later at his treason trial in 1954.
He was particularly close to Nelson Mandela. He became Mandela’s de facto official photographer when Nelson was in jail, chronicling the lives of his wife Winnie and the children Madiba could not watch grow up. “There were very few people with cameras but thank God we captured many events that have recorded the history of both the struggle and the peace and democracy,” said Bra Alf.
Sounds like he lived an important life. RIP
His was such a life, and down to earth!
RIP Kumalo. What an interesting life he lived. Ali and Mandela are two of my favorite people.

Yes, if Obama’s sister had invested in voting machines in Ohio, the MSM would be all over it. AND if someone in Obama’s family said they wanted to take a swing (punch) at Romney…the outrage would be deafening.

Amtrak wins praise for 110 mph train test
By Keith Laing
General Electric (GE) Co.’s transportation department is praising Amtrak for testing running trains at 110 miles per hour this week, saying that the increased speeds were made possible by its technology.
Amtrak ran a test train on a section of its tracks between Joliet and Normal, Ill., with Transportation Ray LaHood, Federal Railroad Administrator Joseph Szabo and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) among the passengers.
GE Transportation said the higher speeds on the Amtrak line, which will eventually run from Chicago to St. Louis, were made possible by its Incremental Train Control System (ITCS).
“We are proud to help introduce the new 110 mph high-speed rail service in Illinois,’’ GE Transportation President Lorenzo Simonelli said in a statement. “GE has had a long and productive partnership with Amtrak, IDOT and FRA and we look forward to deploying this technology in other states to ensure safe, reliable, high-speed service. We are committed to providing the latest technology and products to high-speed rail programs worldwide as an essential part of sustainable infrastructure growth.”
I’m dreaming of a high speed train that could take me from DC to Florida in 120 minutes.

So I thought this was interesting. And sad. But in a way makes me feel better that it isn’t only POTUS.
That is a direct result of the Southern Strategy started by Nixon. LBJ knew that the Civil Rights legislation he signed into law would cost Democrats the South for at least a generation. Racial animous and social wedge issues have been exploited by the GOP to cause many poor whites to vote against their economic self-interests. This fact also should make clear why the GOP is so committed to disenfranchising voters of color through voter id laws and outright fraud. Demographic changes in the US are thankfully making the Southern Strategy less and less effective. On a side note, I wonder if this explains why democratic Presidents are treated so poorly by the MSM. They treated Bill Clinton like an usurper, although they have Romnesia about that now that he is safely out of power.
Racial animous and social wedge issues have been exploited by the GOP to cause many poor whites to vote against their economic self-interests..

Outside the perimeter, protesters heckled, women grinded on poles, and intoxicated revelers at a Bubba Gump Shrimp spilled beer as they danced to the campaign soundtrack blasting out of the speakers. From inside the rally, reporters witnessed at least two people throw up on the sidewalk.”

Well, we tried to early vote in Illinois. It was a disaster. First, it was painfully slow, waiting, waiting, boiling in there, waiting, then they started having problems, then the computer program stopped responding altogether. When they tried to scan the drivers’ license, the program would shut down. Waited and waited while they were making phone calls for help, tried all the suggestions, nothing was working, so everyone standing in line ended up leaving. They told us we could go to another location in town—–which we did—–and met a real long line there with everyone sadly shaking their heads “no”, saying there were problems, they were having “glitches”—–and after waiting some more with no one advancing in line, saw other people give up in disgust, we ended up leaving there too. It’s pretty pathetic, did not install a lot of confidence in our election system. People in the last line said they had come from another location which was also having problems. Frustrating—-will try again in a day or 2 ——when they hopefully have solved all the problems.

Well, it couldn’t be that there is some “problem” with the MACHINES, could it?
Do they think we are consummately stupid?
What a mess Dotster – this has GOT to be sorted out, right now.
Dotster, please call your county election office ASAP to report this. Call into the Illinois SOS office to complain. Look up the number of your county governing group and call to complain. Call OFA. Call your county Democratic Committee. You are a resident of the county, a taxpayer and a voter and you should truly DEMAND better service. Ask the OFA AND your county Dem Committee to put a lawyer on the case. If all else fails call into the governor’s office. Advice to everyone: Keep you cell phones near and the numbers of key people on speed dial. Squeaky wheels to get attention. Give the numbers to other people in line or to those your know who are going to vote. Then, by all means, call the story into the newspaper and any local radio station your can think. A loud noise can get action!!!
I just emailed our county clerk detailing the problems. I will contact the others.
Obviously, no enthusiasm gap exists in IL, in fact, it appears folk simply Overwhelmed The Vote!!!

I’m hoping that’s the origin of the problems—-overloaded because of heavy Chgo turnout. I would actually forgive that reason because that would be good news.
Oh my goodness, dotster, and you were so fired up and really did GO; but after re-reading your experience, maybe it’s a good thing these highly suspicious ‘malfunctions’, in more than one voting area, are found out NOW instead of on November 6th, cause what is frustrating today, would be heartbreaking on that day, the last day. I hope my saying that does not hurt your feelings in any way…
Someone has to explain to me how billions of transaction on credit cards happen every day, and this stupid country can’t vote efficiently, honestly and effectively. It’s truly astounding. We must be the laughingstock of the world.
If this had been Nov 6 what would have happened? Would they count only the votes that got through, or would the results of the election be postponed and the voters involved given another chance to vote, or what?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I thought it was a really good endorsement of PBO by documentary filmmaker, Ken Burns. He frames the endorsement in terms of his favorite movie, It’s a Wonderful Life:
“The movie has a happy ending, thank goodness, but its themes endure to this day and echo in the current presidential election, which at its core asks the question: What kind of country are we? Are we Bedford Falls or Pottersville? Are we all in this together — and stronger and better because of it — or are we entirely on our own, with a few ‘makers’ on the top of a heap of ‘takers?’ ”

Hello everyone, hope all is well. Would like to comment on the poll numbers, fuck them I say. The only numbers I am concerned about are these numbers. On 11/6/12 , 270 4 44.
Seth Meyers said something very smart on SNL during weekend update about the polls:
- Those are the polls among people who have landline phones, and still answer calls from UNKNOWN/UNKNOWN numbers.
I know I don’t answer those calls. This is the first campaign I really don’t care if I never talk to a pollster.
The 7-11 poll seems pretty awesome if you ask me:

Tally–this video is truly frightening. I don’t care what anyone’s religion is, but to sign an Oath of Vengence against the United States is just too much. Romney is more than a bishop. He is a stake president, which means bishops report to him, Also means he has to have signed the oath. I’m feeling really creeped out.
You need to tweet that jackie!
Hey, Jackie – You SHOULD be creeped. It’s very strange. And dangerous. Of the many things about which… Romney…refuses to speak, the big one, in my mind, is his allegiance to his faith. And, of course, there all the other ones: Bain. Nope. Governor of Massachusetts. Nope. Tax returns. Nope. Personal finances. Nope.
I’m assuming he’s a man of his faith. And, if so, he’s got some celestial dues to pay. And now he’s also got to pay dues to Sheldon and the Kochs, among others. I doubt they’re all on the same page.
Every candidate brings fiscal baggage along. That’s our biggest problem these days, exacerbated by the accursed Citizens United ruling.
But this Romney guy may have secrets we can’t even imagine. No wonder he seems so uncomfortable.
And The Donald has some big revelation coming…?! Jeez…
A belated welcome gatodicima, thank you for visiting!
Chips; I am so honored to be welcomed! You run an awesome site, and I’ve got a lot to learn. No problem with my opinions, but some tech issues to be worked on. I’ll do my best.
Truth be told, whatever happens after November 6, our work won’t be over. It’s the big money people… That’s the issue. They’re screwing us all.

WHEN POLLSTERS DON'T PUT JIM CROW STYLE IMPOSSIBLE 5-8 POINT LIKELY LV SCREENS….POTUS IS OVER THAT KEY & CRUCIAL 50% LEVEL #POLLS #P2— Jeff Gauvin (@JeffersonObama) October 22, 2012
If you had any doubt that TPM thrives on drama, look at its EC map today. Pennsylvania is now “tossup”—despite the fact that three polls have come out within the past two days showing Obama with a healthy lead. Ratfuckers.
I shit-canned tpm a long time ago. I’m so old, I remember when they were a reliable, thoughtful site of progressives. Until PBO was President for a minute and a half and they started tearing him apart.
Took a friend to the poll to vote today, had lunch afterwards, a nice way to spend the day. . There was a steady stream of folks coming in to vote. The entire process took about 30 minutes. Early voting is the way to go!
What state do you live in?
Steve Benen @ Maddow Blog: Military contributions favor Obama over Romney
McCarter added, “Military personnel overwhelmingly support Obama over Romney despite the pending cuts to defense. That could be because Obama has kept his promise to bring the wars to an end and because to Mitt Romney, the troops aren’t anything more than an item on a laundry list.”
I saw that poll. And even though Democracy Corps is a (D) pollster, its surveys are on the conservative side. So if PBO is leading by 3 points, that may translate to an even bigger lead in actual voting.
The analysis was very substantive, I thought.
Plus, Zogby (!) has a decent poll out. And by decent, I mean that it’s a phone poll with sane crosstabs. In that, PBO is ahead 50-47.
I really don’t understand what Gallup is up to. Is it really willing to risk what’s left of its reputation for… what?
Zogby  Wow, Gallup is going to be destroyed by this election – I hope!
In the Age of Twitter, you can’t just coast on your reputation and put out junk polls and expect to get no pushback. The gatekeepers are no longer the gatekeepers, and anyone with a Twitter account and a decent following can call bullshit on your bullshit and have it spread, as long as it’s backed up with facts. I mean, when GOP pollsters are throwing cold water on Gallup, that says something.
True LL, and if Gallup are proved to be spectacularly wrong on this (I pray), there should be the mother of all investigations in to them, I want to see them destroyed.
Well, either Gallup is right and EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG, or Gallup is cooking the books on a spectacular scale. Again, remember that in 2000, Gallup had W up by double digits a few days before the election.
Oh, I didn’t know that about 2000 …. and 12 years later they’re still regarded by the MSM as the leading polling company??
The IBD tracker is conducted by TIPP. According to JeffersonObama, TIPP was the most accurate pollster for both 2004 and 2008. Now, IBD is a rightwing journal, but its tracker has shown a consistent lead for PBO. So, again, either Gallup is right and everyone else is wrong, or Gallup has a desired outcome in mind, and is using its reputation to forward it.
“… or Gallup has a desired outcome in mind, and is using its reputation to forward it.”
And that’s why they seriously need to be crushed if they prove to be wrong.
Thanks for the info, LL.
And another thing that’s rather telling: Gallup doesn’t do state polling. That means something.
They’re hoping everybody just pays attention to the toplines. But now, thanks to twitter, we can instantly shut their garbage down. It’s insane.
beats the hell out of me. I have no idea what’s going on with Gallup.

Turning into a great polling day for the President.
Don’t tell that to TPM! Jesus, sorry for harping on that, but they just get my goat. Before Obama got elected, they were unabashedly progressive. Now Josh is going around saying that it’s “not a progressive site”. Again, ratfuckers.
LL take heart in the fact the Josh has shown his true colors. I live by the saying “when someone shows you who he is, believe him”. I agree, changing Pennsylvania to “toss up” is outrageous, but follows the trend of MSM and MSM wannabes trying to make the election seem closer than it is in reality. Without the “likely voter” nonsense, PBO has support of over 50% of registered voters. This MSM created enthusiasm gap is disproved more and more each day as states begin early voting, but pollsters ignore reality and double down on these Likely voter screens that take away 5-7% of PBO’s support among registered voters. Just realize that there are very few trusted sources in our media, everybody seems to have an agenda other than reporting reality and keeping citizens informed.
I think he kids must need braces or something. He’s a major sellout. And a very nasty snarker, to boot.

“How much do you weigh?” she asks.

The nurse puts her on the scale. It turns out her weight is 140.
