Those pictures of POTUS and the girls are just adorable. Boy have they ever grown up. Sasha is sure budding into one cutie. Look how tall Malia is. My goodness, I am glad He and Miche has a good handle on them and has a loving and caring home, inspite of all thi shit that is going on. Thanks for sharing Chips.

    • October 28, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Sorry – can’t resist! “Budding” for sure. ;) Shame on me, I know, I know – but it was such a shock! 4 years in an adult’s life seems to go by in a nano-second, but kids grow BEYOND fast! Remember when summer vacation seemed so long? I see my grandkids less than I’d like to and I swear they change between visits. Ha, they only live 5 miles away.

What a gorgeous family! Not to mention super confident like their parents. Though it’s to be expected with such loving & wonderful parents! That self-confidence will serve them well now & into the the future! I cringe when I hear some nut job saying something evil and wicked about PBO or Mrs. PBO. Hateful jerks have no respect at all!

Boy, you sure wouldn’t have caught ME holding my dad’s hand at either age! Just wasn’t “cool,” And I loved him so and miss him – not a day goes by that I don’t think of my parents. My mom was like my best friend – yet still a Mom. She passed when she was 49 – 32 years ago! Sometimes life isn’t fair, but “lemons into lemonade” and all that good stuff. I hope this post made sense. (Just got up from a nap – brain fade for sure). :) Too bad we don’t have a “preview” option.

      Where was our beautiful FLOTUS?

Of the battlegrounds, PBO takes them all, save FL and if he does NC, it will be by a razor thin margin due to incredible ground game ( they are working hard in all the states, I know). Now, am waiting to see more polling in OH. If by Thursday, Mittens is still trailing in majority of OH polls, we’re in a very good place.

        October 28, 2012 at 4:18 pm

Just heard ABC News on the radio say OH is now a toss up. They did not site their poll site nor the official score on the poll. They tend to spin news for Mitt from what I have noticed in the past so hope this is not some new credible poll on OH.

      October 28, 2012 at 12:37 pm

This is what I’m going by which includes NH, NV, OH, IA, CO and VA and WI as lean/likely Obama as of today.

      http://www.cabpolitical.com/electoral-forecast/

I will add Florida to it if I see POTUS campaigning down there this next week. He’s not going to waste time down there unless their internal polling shows they have a serious shot at it.

So, minimum of 299 without Florida and 328 if they go hard for it next week. :)

      October 28, 2012 at 12:44 pm

I think he will get CO, NV, IA, VA, OH and FL& NC will be his by a squeaker due to early voting.

      • October 28, 2012 at 1:03 pm

I agree with you Betsy. With the voting in Florida this weekend, I think our Prez takes it. My big concern is Ohio. I feel with the possibility of fraud as explained in the UK Progressive Magazine article, the President needs more than a 10% margin. I don’t know why it isn’t polling that way.

        • 47 Betsy
          October 28, 2012 at 6:51 pm

I am not as worried about Ohio because of the attention that is being given to the voting machines, voter fraud, I think we definitely have Ohio.

OBAMA IS STILL THE BEST HOPE FOR SCIENCE IN THE U.S.

    By Andy Feinberg

    ———————————–

New Scientist asked both US presidential campaigns for an article putting forward their position on science. Mitt Romney’s campaign declined – here, Democratic campaign adviser Andy Feinberg argues why Americans who care about science and its wider benefits should back Barack Obama for a second term
    .
    .
President Obama acknowledges and is acting on climate change. In the absence of a cooperative Congress, he set fuel economy standards for vehicles that will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 6 billion tonnes between now and 2025 – the equivalent of taking every car in the world off the road for a year. He set carbon pollution standards for new fossil-fuel-fired power plants, helped negotiate international climate agreements and has demonstrated an untiring dedication to building a clean-energy economy.

It’s embarrassing for the Romney campaign, and all who would vote for him, that he declined to answer this question – as well as running in ear of the questions from the Nickelodeon kids. Romney’s plans must be even worse than what’s already been put out there.

There is our president looking so GQ and so much of a Dad at the same time. He looks so proud and protective. It also says so much about him as a parent that the girls will still hold his hands in public. He said once that when the girls are around everything is so sparkly and shiny or similar words if I did not get the quote just right. A father is the first man in a girl’s life; if he gets it right, she will grow into a self-assured, strong woman. The Obama girls are well on their way.

Thanks for these photos, Chips. When I read the tweet that they would be going to church this morning, I was hoping, with confidence, that you would have the pictures. You always come through.

Hello TOD. Reporting in from the Vote Corps in Nevada: I had an amazing experience yesterday. While canvassing in a mobile home park in Sparks, I knocked on the door of an elderly Latino couple. Two children got me their grandfather, who spoke no English and was hard of hearing, so between my really modest amount of Spanish, and my soft voice, it would have been tough going. But his 10 year old grandson helped, and among the three of us I managed to ascertain that he had just registered for the first time in his life. “Obama! Yes!” he said. I told him that he could vote that very day, and he said he had no way of getting there. I offered a ride, said I would “regresso pronto,” and went and got my truck.

We drove over to a vast shopping center and found the polling place. He had brought his registration and his passport, and, once again with the help of his grandson, navigated signing in. (That’s when I found out he’s 80.) I asked if his grandson could go to the booth with him, and they said yes. I was in tears watching them do this for the first time. A poll watcher who spoke Spanish also stayed with them a long time, explaining it all.

When it was over he was so excited that he announced to everyone there that he would bring 3 friends to vote on Monday, and talked about his plan all the way home. Once he saw how it was done he felt so free about making sure other people came, too. Today I’m going to go and make sure he has my phone number in case more rides are needed.

After canvassing, a whole raft of us entered data for hours, because teams had come from California and there was a ton of it. It all needed to be done last night so they could update the canvassing lists for today. And we were only one of many staging places doing the same thing. I stayed long enough to hear the field organizers from all over the state reporting in on a Skype conference call.

Total number of doors OFA knocked on in Nevada Saturday: over 77,000.

This story has tremendous impact and in the midst of the army of polls, negative ads, cynics and racists, it definitely warms all of our hearts to hear just one story (although I know there are so many) like this. Thank you so much for sharing and for all of your hard work. In the grand scheme of things, when you think about President Obama and his life story and how he has CONSISTENTLY and TIRELESSLY works for the greater good of the people, we have to know that there is a higher being at work here over the evildoers. This time, will again, be a defining moment and I know that his second term as President will usher in a new commitment to service to mankind because the President has inspired us to do so.

Hello Everyone, I have spent the past couple of hours this morning making calls to VA. Left quite a few messages but based on my live calls, I really think that we can win this state. I really do. I have taken a pledge to log off all social media until after the election. It can be so time-consuming and feels really unproductive at this stage. The only place I will check in once a day is TOD just to get my fix of optimism. My partner and I talked last night about making a trip to OH this week to help with GOTV. It is really hard for me to get away since I run my own organization but given what I am hearing from friends in the campaign, it appears that we need to go all out with GOTV this week in OH, WI, and IA. I’ve been to IA several times over the past few weeks so we’ve decided that OH is critical so we will spend Wed through Sun in Cincinnati helping with GOTV. You can imagine that my partner is not thrilled that I am making him take off work to go with me but I informed him that he would get no peace if Pres Obama loses OH by 100 votes when we know that we could have been helping (I of course don’t expect the campaign to lose but I had to pull out the big guns). Anyway, I wish all of you a great rest of your weekend and more importantly a terrific week. Let’s win this!

Collegekay, nothing good comes of being on Twitter constantly. It’s a very small, circular community. Most people are tweeting poll results like they are going out of style. It turns into a loud echo chamber. Better to seriously limit your time there for your sanity. LOL!

    • October 28, 2012 at 1:13 pm

Good advice MK. I made the mistake of tuning in to MSNBC earlier for an update on the storm and I found Alex Witt saying that she had spoken to Rick Green of the Des Moines Register on their Romney endorsement. She claims he said it was a difficult decision but that it came down to which candidate had the best tools to cut through the very partisan divide in this country and they felt it was Romney. I immediately felt that that was code for going back to a white president. I shut down the TV and took the dogs for a walk. No more TV until after the election!

      • October 28, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Jackie, I am not watching cable news at all. I haven’t been for over a month now and I can tell you that my perspective and outlook have improved markedly. I don’t miss it once bit.

        • 120 anniebella
          October 28, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Jackie, this endorsement of Mitt Romney by the Des Moines Register is full of alot of B.S. There is no very partisan divide in the country, it’s the right wing extreme Republican Tea Party hatred of this black President. So they think Mitt will do a better job in doing what, destroying Medicare, raising taxes on the middle class, cutting taxes for the rich, taking away women and minorities rights, shipping jobs overseas, getting us into another war. Rick Green is full of bullshit. Did this paper endorse POTUS in 08?

      • 122 idon
        October 28, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Here’s the thing. The country is browning. In 2040, “white” peeps will be officially declared a minority in America. Of course, they have been a minority for at least 10 years but most peeps have not had genetic testing and therefore do not realize we are mostly a mixed race nation.
You are right. What the DMR is saying is that the HOUSE GOP will only work with a white president because after otherizing the President for the past 4 years they believe they have convinced a majority of white peeps that a white president would make it easier to implement President Obama’s policies (insert sarcasm and eye roll here). Of course when Presidethey Obama wins re-election by a landslide that crazy narrarive will be put to rest FOREVER!! President Obama’s re-election will signal the end of the Republican Party.

        • October 28, 2012 at 2:11 pm

For the record, I quit the cable shows during the 2008 campaign and have only broken my own rule to watch Martin Bashir and Rev Al. I refuse to give any others the ratings. idon, how I pray you are right. I have never seen such hatred for a President, yes the right hated Bill and Hillary, but even that don’t compare with what President Obama has had to deal with. If the was anything to Rick Green he would have come to the conclusion that we need to get rid of the Tea party, and the extreme parts of the Republican party. If you can support someone who lies like Mitt Romney, you are a member of the extreme Republican party.. But this paper didn’t endorse Obama in 2008.

The Republican Party is dying and they are trying to take us all down with them into their sewer of hypocrisy. Then there’s the whole GOP/China thing, But I won’t go there right now. Better to discuss after PBO’s second inauguration, which I hope to attend.

I can’t believe the widespread dire warnings about this storm. Even here in the Chgo area they are warning about 15-25ft. wave heights on Lake Michigan with flooding and 60 mph winds bringing downed trees and power outages to the entire Chicagoland area. My Ct. daughter can’t believe that the storm is supposed to hit their area on the same day the last big freak snow storm hit a year ago, leaving them without power for close to 3 weeks, as I remember, scrambling for motel rooms, finally were able to get a generator shipped from out of state. Power was not restored until some power companies from Ga. finally came to their rescue. Grandkids are disgusted about Halloween being wiped out again. Hope everyone prepares and remains as safe as possible.

I love to see POTUS with his family. And to see the young girls, how they are growing up into lovely young girls. I know POTUS and FLOTUS are so proud of them. And so am I.

POTUS is at FEMA headquarters at the moment. We’ll probably get a photo soon.

Quick update on the spousal unit.

The picc line went in an hour ago. So, she’ll probably stay one more night, get her dose of medication tomorrow morning, and then go home. Then it’s two weeks of a home health nurse giving her IV antibiotics at home or work.

I’m watching Chelsea get robbed of a deserved victory, having coffee and a breakfast sandwich, and then heading out to the hospital.

I love how Gallup tries to come up with a poll saying that the race is looking similar to 2008 and no real uptick in numbers, although data after data shows that they are wrong they can keep on using their ‘data’ to make themselves feel valid but the real world proves them wrong much like it did a number of other times.

Reposting again because it is important!
Good morning everyone. I posted this late last night but am reposting. VA is allowing early voting by in person absentee ballot due to the storm. I assume OFA VA has been advised but please get the word out through twitter, etc.

For those of you working VA, and those who tweet: The Virginia Board of Elections is recommending that local election registrars accommodate those who want to vote absentee in person due to the potential impact of Sandy. Please spread the word!

    http://www.wric.com/story/19932922/va-sbe-prepares-for-absentee-voters-ahhead-of-sandy

If anyone knows anyone in VA who needs to vote, please let them know they can do it NOW.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I’m totally geeking out right now. There’s this new show on The CW called “Emily Owens MD” and the title character (Emily) is played by Meryl Streep’s daughter Mamie Gummer (fantastic actress. It’s in her genes) and on the second episode of the show, a patient needs vital surgery to save his life but the insurance company won’t cover him even though he’s been paying his premiums. They won’t cover him because of his age. Well guess what?

The Affordable Care Act aka ObamaCare comes to the rescue! OMG! OMG! OMG! Another patient, who’s a lawyer tells Emily that under the Affordable Care Act, Emily’s patient CANNOT be denied insurance despite having a preexisting condition, because the ACA has wiped that archaic rule out. So she should call back the insurance company and let them know that yes, they will be covering her patient.

I began screaming in joy! Slowly but surely ObamaCare is making positive waves.

Here’s the episode http://www.cwtv.com/cw-video/emily-owens-md/ “It’s titled Emily and the Alan Zolman Incident” The show overall is very good. Full of wit and humor. Check it out.

Wow people are really pulling together to get this thing done and win it! I saw a conversation upthread that BWD started and I have a prediction but it’s probably not very realistic. How about a #1936LANDSLIDE like BobFr says? :D

    I’m gonna dream big!

OK I’m actually taking today off so I’m off to make chili and move wood around for our wood stove. Ugh. And clean this house what a mess. see you later TOD cats!

I have a huge grin on my face. Emily Owens called the insurance company and told them about ObamaCare and less than 2 mins later, the insurance company called the hospital and said yeah….they will be covering the patient’s procedure. Yippeeeee!!!!!!

Slowly but surely folks, we’re winning the day.

No. President Obama is taking all the projections of all the apolitical forecasters seriously, involved in extensive prep with FEMA, is not participating in fear-mongering to suppress voting.

I feel Obama is going to take all of the swing states plus hold the same states that he won from the last election. That is my prediction. From the map I did, it shows 347 to 191 in favour of an Obama win. But I am also optimistic that he could have a bigger win than 347. The amount of voters gettng out and early voting is larger than 2008

  51. October 28, 2012 at 2:18 pm

This is OT, but it’s also important to me. Please take the warnings about Sandy seriously. Here are photos from OBX this morning: https://www.rebelmouse.com/OBXPhotos/ The rain/snow and storm surge not to mention wind can cause widespread problems. Stay safe! The world needs you safe and sound, people!

    My prediction:
PBO takes WI, IA, OH, NV, NH and VA. I put CO, NC, and FL in the tossup category although I think there is reasonble chance he wins all three due to the OFA turnout machine, I’d put the odds on these three at 51-49 in PBO’s favor. I also think he will win the popular vote but with a closer margin than 2008, probably more like 51-48 and some small margin going to “other” I must admit I am somewhat concerned about OH with all the steps the governor and sec of state there have taken to supress the vote so I want to see him have enough EVs that he still wins regardless of any funny business in OH.

Was looking at pictures of the Obamas voting in ‘ 08 and looking at these pictures – how time flies! The girls are blossoming into young ladies in front of our eyes. They look so ‘unaffected’ which goes to show how great POTUS/FLOTUS/FGOTUS and the rest of the support system are.
Thanks guys for all you are doing to get PBO/VPB re-elected – truly inspirational – people power!
