As president, Barack Obama is the Honorary Chairman of the American Red Cross. Officially he can override even the full time chairman of the organization. He is being honored both for who he is and for his position.
I didn’t know this – fantastic! People should appreciate the awesomeness of the presidency, and not disrespect it by allowing a charlatan to abuse it.

Great! Our bipartisan Commander in Chief for America. I love it.
Gov Christie sounding like he is going to endorse PBO any time soon
A president for the people. what I love about President Obama is his fundamental integrity and appreciation for people and his regard for the opportunity he has to serve as president of the USA
Not once did the President mention the campaign, not once did he have anyone putting down Mitt Romney, but this President talk of the people who lost their lives, he talk of people who lost property, he talk of the people out there risking their lives to help, he was carrying on like a leader should. Bravo to our President. Once again today we witness what Mitt Romney is all about, and we saw what a true leader, what a caring President Obama is about.
I take great pleasure in knowing that at every turn, Romney is reminded once again why he is just not worthy to go up against this man of the people.
Yup – in one of his taped messages last week (not sure if it was the weekly address or the one about his plan for the next four years), he said it was an honor to serve as President – and I believed him.
President Obama at the Red Cross Headquarters: "We leave nobody behind." And that's why he will be President for four more years.— The Obama Diary (@TheObamaDiary) October 30, 2012
Being in the right place at the right time. that’s what it all about.
So, PBO looks caring and presidential; Romney looks like an ass. That is NOT the person we want in charge during a disaster.
This is what real leadership looks like. President Obama is the epitome of class and grace. He’s just good inside.
Barack Obama’s Election Night Speech
And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.
Yep. I can understand that Mitt Romney is at a disadvantage because he’s not the President, but if he was a real leader and if he had any integrity, he would have found a more dignified way to respond, a more “presidential” way. He would have cancelled his “rallies” for real, would have given a statement in front of the press, urging people to ban together, and asking people to donate money, etc. A statement in the same spirit as those the President has made. Instead, Romney looks like an opportunist and a phony. And on top of it, he looks ineffective, because he isn’t following the Red Cross’s guide lines.
Our President bring comfort and encouragement to the nation during this difficult time for fellow citizens that have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

I’m listening to PBO speaking from the Red Cross location in DC on MSNBC. He is being so very Presidential and had mentioned the people who have lost their lives and their families. He commended the Governors affected for the job they’re doing. He mentioned Cuomo, Christie, and Bloomberg by name. He’s giving kudos to the first responders, the rescue swimmer who helped save the distressed ship, the nurses who helped evacuate the babies in the hospital and thanked the responses. He directed folks to the Red Cross web site for donations. He ended by saying ‘we should be good neighbors until after the storm affects are over’. Take that Mitt for brains.
Thanks, Cookemon. I missed hearing him life. Does anyone know where I can see a repeat of this speech.
BOOM. Our Presidential President has spoken to the American People.

what do you think is up with Chris Christie…he is saying the right things but i do not trust him…
I think there are moments when one realizes that they have a responsibility to the people. Remember, in the first storm, Christie was partying in Disneyworld. People died during that storm. I think he learned his lesson.
Indeed…..i remember that…..

@JeffersonObama is one of our President’s biggest supporters. He loves the guy, respects him more, just like we do! Makes me so happy.
Guys, how many times did you hear PBO using the word “Forward” or saying ” Lean Forward.”—— hmmmm Jedi mindtrick, anyone? Subliminal messages, anyone? As Jodi Kantor would say: “hmmmmmm………..”
I saw that “lean forward” in Christie’s tweets (I don’t follow him. He was RT’d).
I mentioned this on the earlier thread, but I just want to repeat that these food donations are a waste of time and distract tired relief workers from their real work. As I mentioned before, I worked for the Red Cross for ten years and they have systems in place for providing food to shelters from local restaurants. They do not have time to open up individual cans of food and the Red Cross does not dole out food like a food bank. They provide shelters and emergency support and help guide disaster victims to sources of long-term relief through FEMA and other agencies. Their goal is to enable people to get back to normalcy as quickly as possible. Romney is not only insulting us with his grandstanding, he is standing in the way of important work He has no idea what he’s doing and he doesn’t care.
Luckily, I can suppress some of my anger against Romney, as we mostly all will, when we hear his effin’ concession speech on the night of Nov. 6, the last day in my life I will be thinking of this grandstander tinman impostor weirdo.
Amen SC. Amen.
Yes!!! Begone, Willard!
Amen, JoB – that thought of the concession speech is getting several of us through these last days of the campaign. I’ll be watching, but will have the TV on mute. Don’t want to hear anything he’s got to say.
I don’t want to hear him, either, I just want to see him weep. No, seriously. It’s all I’m after. (Yuck – just thought about his fake face, again, with tears streaming down his fake tan.)
It will look beautiful on Tuesday.
Ahhh … yes.
Something must have happened after the RNC convention that strained relations between Christie and Willard. I notice that Christie has not been campaigning for Willard and with this event he seems to be trying his best to distance himself from Willard while embracing PBO.
Definitely Hopefruit. His convention speech was a hoot, he barely mentioned Willard, it was all ‘think of me in 2016!’. And now he’s praising PBO’s leadership, “wonderful”! Ooooh, I love when ‘these people’ turn on each other.
That was my inclination when he said on FOX and Friends (!!!) that he could “give a damn” about Willard visiting NJ or a photo op.
Well, maybe ol’ badmouth Christie will have “a place” in our lives, after all, if he’s turning on Willard. Love it. That would be the only place, but nothing like a guy from New Jersey (where I spent most of my life) to put down the Eternal Campaigner Willard like a pro, then rub his face in it, before adding salt and pepper (I think I’m getting too deeply into that picture), also, too.
Positioning for 2016 perhaps? Pure Rudy move.
Yeah, I’m sure you’re right, and look what happened to “Transylvania’s Mayor” Rudy, after he positioned himself. Think he’s tossing newspapers on lawns, now.
Naw. He’s in Florida somewhere.
For Halloween? Hmmm … maybe I’ll re-think moving back to Florida, eh?
Send a SEAL Team first and then check the water.
This is good politics for Christie. Dissing Romney in a Dem. state and region, rising above partisan politics works well.
That’s true, but he could cooperate with PBO and be respectful without outright dissing Romney. There’s definitely some animosity present – that wasn’t there earlier in the year.
maybe he’s read the tea leaves and realizes who’s gonna be in office for another 4 years.
He probably wants an endorsement from President Obama, or at least, to be able to claim bipartisanship cooperation.
He knows that the sooner he cleans #TheStench off his clothing and reputation, the better. Willard will be an even bigger pariah in the GOP than GWBush and that’s one hell of an accomplishment ….
Dear Willard, the one accomplishment you truly have built is that you will be a bigger pariah in the GOP than GWBush, forever. cc @Lawrence— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) October 30, 2012

Okay, so I wonder why the earlier tweet with PBO’s accomplishments didn’t work?
THIS!! Great tweet!
Hiya, Dudette! You’ve become almost as un-catchable as Chips Chica ever since you got your Twitter license! How’s life?
re the tweet, I’m mustering some chutzpah (pronounced a la Bachmann this time) to ask TODville regulars if they would SERIOUSLY SEVERELY CONSIDER dedicating this next week here (and on twitter?) PRIMARILY to our respected President, vice-president, their wives AND the other DEMOCRATIC contenders in each state. Many of whom I still don’t know! It’s only six days. What do you think? Should I?
I envision us keeping 75%+ of our references for OUR guys/gals, all along the ticket, probably actively deciding not to pick up the baton if someone mentions one of those other losers. [Instead we just note the info in passing and carry on]. We could think of this week as our version of a TOD ‘frosh week’ [is that the right term - we never had these 'in my day'] and a natural lead-in to big splash TOD ‘victory party’ for which Chips Chica is already planning a special cake.
To show you think this is a half-way decent suggestion, we could just start by gradually minimizing repeated mention of the different jokers AND THEIR LACKIES on the other side, and increase mention of meaningful info about all the participants who represent our side.

Remember how Ryan went to the soup kitchen, unannounced and uninvited, with no clients there, and washed clean pots and pans for the cameras? I’ll bet you $10K that after Romney’s “donate your old beans toward my victory rally,” somebody somewhere followed the donations to see if they were just tossed out, after the crowd and cameras cleared the building. Expecting to see the investigation results soon! I cannot stand either of them or the horses they rode in on.
Looking at the pictures above I can’t help but notice that almost all – if not all the Red Cross workers are standing with their hands clasped or crossed in front of them – a sign of respect. The body language is unmistakable, and that was not something they rehearsed obviously. Our Commander-in-Chief is speaking and the people are listening to him.
Good point, Hf. As a good leader our President usually sets the tone, and those who have ‘open’ hearts and minds respond accordingly. I think of his campaign stops, but I also think of his demeanour at the memorial service for the embassy workers, or for those shot senselessly, or in NY after OBL’s demise, etc. etc. He doesn’t have to fake his emotions, and in turn that releases others to be ‘natural’ in his presence.

The Real Mitt Romney Rap PLEASE STAND UP (Eminem’s Slim Shady Remix)
here’s a comparison of RNC Christie and Sandy Christie re. the issue of PBO’s “leadership”
Christie is a prominent surrogate for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and was tapped to deliver the keynote address at the Republican National Convention in August. During that speech, Christie used variations of the word “leader” 17 times, often in the context of criticizing Obama.
“It’s time to end this era of absentee leadership in the Oval Office and send real leaders to the White House,” Christie said at the convention in Tampa.
“I believe in America and her history,” he added at another point. “There’s only one thing missing now: leadership.”
I respect Sandy Christie. RNC Christie was an ass.
they are one and the same. different times call for different measures. He knows who will be in the WH for another 4 years and frankly, right now he doesn’t need anything from Willard.

In these last seven days, we are going to see a more strange and unusual things happening and being said. Mainly, the truth will uncover and put an end to all the lies by Mitt, the pundits, the media, the whiners, the undecided.
This has all been a setup. “We are the ones we have been waiting for.”

This reminds me of the Benghazi response where Romney had a callous smile on his face when everyone else was solemn. Romney is just wrong for this country.
A DECISION MADE OUT OF WEAKNESS, NOT STRENGTH
Obama Camp Calls Out Romney’s ‘Desperate’ Battleground State Expansion Bluff
CHICAGO – Today, Obama for America released the following statement from Campaign Manager Jim Messina:
“Three things are now absolutely clear in this race – we have a significant early vote advantage in states from North Carolina to Nevada, there is no Romney momentum in the battleground states, and the Romney campaign has found itself with a tremendously narrow and improbable path to 270 electoral votes. Now, like Republicans did in 2008, they are throwing money at states where they never built an organization and have been losing for two years. Let’s be very clear, the Romney campaign and its allies decision to go up with advertising in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Minnesota is a decision made out of weakness, not strength.
And I’m sure the president’s campaign will counter with their own ads, as they said earlier, turning all Robney’s efforts into a wash. All the RR ads in the world are not going to compensate for the relentless efforts of the OFA, which has been on the ground in PA for over a year.
Keep donating, so they can do just that.
Could Romney be more of a jerk? He has a smattering of canned goods lined up on a table behind him, calling this ‘aid’ to be sent to one of the
wealthiest areas of the country. Yes, I think that is exactly what NYC, CT, DC, VA, etc. need right now… a few cans of green beans, corn and if
we are lucky some peas and carrots!!! Can you believe this self-serving idiot is pulling this stunt and thinks we are all morons so we can’t see through this lying gimmick. I cannot possibly express how much I detest this poor excuse for a human being.
Sorry TOD, but had to rant. That picture of him with his canned goods and surrounded by his right wing nut jobs, just irked my last nerve.
Hope 44, just when you ask yourself, could Romney be more of a jerk, he outdoes himself. Yes he can be more of a jerk because he takes it to a higher level each time. Just talked to my niece and family in NJ and what they need is power, not cans. Electricity has been out for a day now and she and the family did not even know the full extent of Sandy on New York. When I told her the president was coming to NJ tomorrow, she was thrilled. Even if she doesn’t get to see him, she was comforted to know he was coming.
None of it is about the charity for him. It’s all about flagrant campaigning during a disaster. But the photo of a table with a smattering of canned goods and a box of Rice Krispies does make him look like an absolute idiot, like using a squirt gun to put out a fire. Somehow it’s a perfect metaphor for who he is.
It just shows you that him and his team couldn’t even spare a few minutes to actually figure out what was needed and help to provide it. They were more interested in their photo op, and not being drowned out by presidential President Obama that they couldn’t be bothered to even reach out to the local Red Cross to come up with an idea that would help them meet the need. I would have had more respect if Romney had just come out with a personal check and said he was donating a million dollars, and was going to be matched by all his rich donor friends/puppet-masters. They don’t actually care about people at all. The President is the foremost public servant – Romney has no business applying for the job.
‘…a personal check and said he was donating a million dollars, and was going to be matched by all his rich donor friends/puppet-masters’
You are such a dreamer! That’s good, I’m told, because dreams sometimes come true, but in this instance as a friend I have to tell you it’s extremely unlikely. Mitt only gives money to his sons and his investment buddies.
People expect Romney to have shame for the lies he so readily spews. He is a psychopathic, pathological liar. It’s like, why would you expect a natural born criminal to be a shamed of his/her criminality. It is who they are.
Romney knows he can appeal to the most ignorant, nastiest, racist, lying, RepubTeaTaliban hypocrites of society, because they themselves reside in the must gutter part of their soul. Whether they live in OH, PA, FL, Alabama, Mississippi, Up State NY, MO,…you get the picture, they live in the most gutter part of their soul.
He is told to do that and when you have the media backing you up…
I don’t think Romney needs to be told. I think he is what he is.
But i would go one further…Romney stands for whatever will get him over…nothing is too extreme….there is no pandering that is too low….
his objective is to win at all costs….AT ALL COSTS…he will lie…cheat….and steal….
he has to be soundly defeated……
Jovie, remember Mitt has been running for president since 2007. Some of his fellow republicans called him out back then as a pathological liar. Romney is who he is, a “psychopathic, pathological liar.”
I tweeted something very similar. Romney and the Repubs do NOT care if we know they are lying. They do NOT care if we believe that they think we are stupid. They DO NOT care. They believe enough people will believe their lies and that’s all that matters to them. Their scorched earth policy is in effect. Their “throw everything up against the wall and see what sticks” is in effect.

Charles Pierce hits another home run. Key quote:
For two days now, I have heard nothing but words of caution, even from liberal pundits, about how the president should avoid “politicizing” the storm, as though that were the most important consideration. Initially, I said as much myself. But, now, after these two days, it ought not to be beyond the pale to “politicize” the simple fact that, even though the Republican half of it was an embarrassing clown show, this election has come down to a battle between two visions of the the functions of the national government and, through that, a battle over whether the political commonwealth exists at all. It is not politicizing anything to point out the obvious fact that one side of these arguments is lying as a soggy pulpish object on the beaches of New Jersey, and the other one is out there trying to get the lights back on.

Inside the early vote numbers: African Americans
Every election, more and more African Americans come out to vote. Since 1992, African Americans have increased their share of the electorate nearly every single time—from just 8 percent in 1992 to 13 percent four years ago. Between 2004 and 2008, participation among African Americans grew more than any other group. In 2012, we’re going to see these records break once again en route to re-electing President Obama.

At a minimum they should already be pursuing a cease & desist to halt the ads. Beyond that, given that harm is being done, they and their employees may well have several legal paths to remedy – hopefully lawyers are already on it.
They will not do any more than they’ve done to date. Their biggest concern is market share and the last thing they want to do is anger all those Repub potential buyers. The Repubs are 47% of the country and they cannot afford it. This is part of the reason so many corporations love the Super Pacs because the donors are not disclosed. It is a better effort to keep directing the outrage at the media (including local OH media both newspapers and TV stations) so the word gets out to the voters from a source other than OFA.

Where did he get that swill about the handling of Sandy could be real problem for President Obama because Governor Cuomo, Grovernor Christie and Mayor Bloomberg are so politically savvy and will not hesitate to criticize the response. You are right dotster3 Chuck Todd just can not disguise his dislike for PBO. He twisted himself into a pretzel and pulled that stupid meme out of his arse. What an embarrassing excuse for a journalist. Disgusting. The problem for Chuck is that President Obama makes Mitt Romney look like an amateur.
I have a newsflash for Chuck Todd and the rest of the gossip columnists pretending they are real journalists – President Obama is handling this crisis the same way he has handled countless others for the last four years. With dignity and compassion. He has assembled a government full of dedicated and competent public servants. His compassion and caring for the American people is obvious for all to see. Bottom line Chuck, President Obama is just being himself. He’s comfortable in his own skin. He has a core. He has been consistent from the day he announced his candidacy. For once, could you just give him his due? Stop inventing stupid memes out of thin air. Sheesh…
He’s been awful but the last few days — he’s so deranged he should fill in for Glen Beck. He’s gone batshit crazy and no longer should be any voice that poses as a reporter.
Please a little prospective here 57. He ain’t no Glenn Beck by any stretch. He’s one of those beltway “reporters” who firmly bought into the both sides business. If Romney was caught with a dead body and the murder weapon in his hand he would likely report “yes, Mr. Romney allegedly committed this crime, but we don’t know if there is a similar story in Obama’s closet that we just haven’t found out about yet. Stay tuned.” Glenn Beck, on the other hand, said on national tv that the prez hates white people, among other horrendous things. So, whatever other asshole he is, he doesn’t rise to the heights of one Glenn Beck, or Rush Limpo, or Mike Savage or most of Fox network.
I don’t see it yet, but I heard on msnbc today that Bill Clinton is writing a rebuttal to the Des Moines Register’s endorsement of Disgusting Willard, which will be printed in that paper.
Just checked their LTE section—-looks like others were not pleased either with that endorsement which I heard was ordered from the publisher which was probably ordered from Bain/Gannett/ClearChannel/ChamberofCommerce.
I only read one line of that endorsement and knew it was garbage immediately. When they said that Romney offers “fresh economic ideas” I went on a twitter rant. If you wanted to spite POTUS then don’t endorse either candidate but to put the words Romney and “fresh economic ideas” in the same sentence? You have got to be kidding.
Great news. Clinton has credibility on the economy, and readers will pay attention to his LTE. I’ve been concerned about the effect of the Des Moines Register’s endorsement of Romney. They endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 so yes their endorsement of Romney must have impressed some undecided, and some independents. The Obama campaign isn’t taking any chances and a LTE by Clinton is a good idea. Really good idea.
Screw the tiny cans of corn. Mitt would do more service to this nation by collecting & distributing his tax returns. #WhatIsHeHiding? #p2— Steve Weinstein (@steveweinstein) October 30, 2012
Randi Rhodes just played Romney’s Chrysler ad running in OH: I didn’t realize it was THAT bad.
It’s disgusting and harmful to the workers and the company …
Dear @randiradio Please urge @Chrysler to get an immediate cease & desist order against Mitt's terrorizing Jeep/Chrysler employees. TY— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) October 30, 2012
I couldn’t think they could shock me, but this ad shocked me. That this sociopath is close at all to the Presidency is a serious indictment of half of this country.
57AF, my sentiments exactly regarding thew closeness of this race is a serious indictment on half of this country, especially when Mitt is a pathological liar.
Sandy’s Lesson for the Voters: Government Matters
By Jonathan Cohn
A massive storm like Sandy is going to cause devastation and disruption, no matter how good the infrastructure. As Gellings notes, “electricity and salt water don’t mix.” But, with better infrastructure, communities can be more resilient. Power lines can survive wind when they are underground. Sewers won’t spew wastewater into rivers if they have sufficient capacity. Forward-thinking local and state officials find ways to shore up infrastructure even in lean times: Just two weeks ago, New York City officials announced a plan to accelerate about $1 billion worth of projects, by taking advantage of presently low interest rates (which make borrowing cheaper).
But that kind of thinking has been absent in Washington. The Recovery Act included substantial infrastructure spending and, as Michael Grunwald documents in The New New Deal, those investments will bolster everything from transportation to energy generation. (Gellings reminded me that the Recovery Act included money for “synchrophasors,” which allow utilities to respond to outages more quickly, although it’s not clear how much they would help in a disaster like Sandy.) But there is much more to do. And, notwithstanding testimonials from some of the nation’s most respected economists, citing the same low interest rates, efforts to borrow money for infrastructure have run into massive resistance. In Congress, Obama’s proposal for an infrastructure bank, as part of the American Jobs Act, was dead on arrival.
Except – that kind of thinking hasn’t “been absent in Washington”. President Obama has a jobs bill that would cover some of the more than $2 trillion in infrastructure repairs that are much needed, and escalating in cost with each passing year. That kind of thinking hasn’t been absent, it’s been blocked – by Republicans.

Hello Jovie, can you tell me whether my son who lives in Homestead Florida and is registered to vote in miami dade county, but his driver’s license address in in Broward county, is able to vote in Miami Dade? He also he does not have his voter id card.
Here is a number to call-
If you have questions about voting in Florida, give our voter hotline a call at 855-868-3214. Like and share so your friends know. #FL2012— Abigail Collazo (@LeftStandingUp) October 30, 2012
Thank You. I called the number and was told that he has to go to the county he was registered to vote, he lives in miami dade and is registered there. He also can use his current driver’s license to vote. I called him and now he is on his way to the library to vote. I was surprised when he called me asking if he could still vote, because he never seem to be interested in anything, he is 24. His twin sister is voting for the other guy, sorry I raised them right, last time she voted for Obama, she lives in Broward. She does not agree with same sex marriage that is her new enlightened stance, it was not a problem four years ago.
hey ewok2. thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, which one of Mitt Romney’s policy positions does your daughter agree with?
LOL now their are pollsters trying to show that Romney now is in the lead in Virgina! How can this be when it got hit by a hurricane with massive power outages. This ‘poll’ should be called out as a fraud.
hahahahahhhahahhahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahhahahhahahha!!! That’s actually pretty funny.
Why did somebody take my yard sign?
they really like it, so they stole it. Anyone would want an Obama/Biden 2012 sign.
Isn’t that juvenile——-when the haters bother to take someone’s yard sign? What in the world is the point? I like those people who responded with a sign which said ‘every time you steal my Obama sign I make another donation to his campaign. So—thank you from the Obama campaign.’
In depressing news: Disney has bought LucasFilm. Star Wars Episode VII to be released in 2015. No, this is not from The Onion.
Not cool! Eps 1-3 were abominations as they were. I can’t imagine what Disney will do to the final trilogy! Well, hopefully they’ll hire someone besides Lucas to direct.
Well, not to be contrarian, but these ideas are good. Let’s face it, the originals from Eps 4-6 are too long in the tooth to sign up for a new trilogy. I think the Return of the Sith or the Jedi origins story would be interesting. Love Joss Whedon, but, no, no Whedon Star Wars.

This storm may have been a blessing in disguise. Before when calling Florida I would get lots of people saying they want to vote on election day. Now because of the storm people are paying attention and more are willing to go vote so in case something like this happens on election day we do not end up with a ‘president Romney’ ( ugh now I have to go wash myself for using that phrase).

New post everyone, back in a while:
Good Evening, All: AuntSis reporting in from Miami Beach Precinct. 4th day of Early voting in Florida. Drove past my polling location and the parking lot was full, of course! The line, the waiting line covered 3 sides of the building. That is wayyyyy more than a 20 minute wait. Sometimes, sometimes, I love Americans. Regardless of who they are voting for, I am pleased to see such a longer line on the 4th day of early voting. I am hoping and praying that as we get closer to Saturday (11/3 – last day of early voting), the lines will grow longer and longer. I am a dreamer and a believer and would love it if PBO carried Miami-Dade County and the state.
I think many of us are dreaming that same dream, AuntSis! Please keep us posted!
