Advocacy group’s poll shows Obama, Nelson with double-digit leads among Florida Hispanics

// United We Dream, a Hispanic activist group pressing for passage of the DREAM Act, is out with swing-state polling that says President Barack Obama has double-digit leads over challenger Mitt Romney among Hispanic voters in the five states polled. In Florida, the lead is 30 points — 61 percent-to-31 percent. Among “certain” voters, the lead is 56-to-27.

The survey also shows two-term Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson with a comfortable 53-32 lead over his Republican challenger, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack IV, with 15 percent saying they’re still undecided. But among “certain” voters, Nelson’s lead is just 38-27. //

Many thanks also to Betsy who posted her canvass/outreach to the eighty-year old Latino man in NV who had never voted! It has stuck in my memory and made me teary and hopeful.

It must be comforting for him to know he doesn’t have to fix this mess on his own. I have even more respect for President Obama, if that’s possible, for dealing with the national emergencies effectively “on his own” – economy, auto crisis, bank bailout (getting the money back), winding down war in Iraq, dealing with the war in Afghanistan and the Middle East transformation, obstruction by the GOP and having to keep the government running and make some level of progress in the meantime, BP oil spill. He was all alone in those – he had to make the decisions and fix stuff. Christie seems overwhelmed, and glad to have the President to lean on. I’m glad he’s got President Obama to lean on, too.

Isn’t it amazing that Democrats are celebrating the opportunity for bipartisanship, and the fact that our guy is able to rise above partisanship and work his heart out to help out a governor who has maligned him just a few short weeks ago. Contrast that with Republicans who’ve obstructed him the entire time and who are gnashing their teeth at Christie’s support of President Obama. One group is proudly American – wanting the best for their fellow citizens in a time of crisis, and the other seems not to be.

If people thought that Republicans (this current version) were concerned about American people and the future of this country – they should be getting a nagging feeling of dread about now. In some way, this actually makes me feel a little better about the ugliness that they’ve spewn at President Obama. They are just horrible people, irredeemable and unconcerned about the country. They love their flag, their chanting of “USA! USA! USA!”, but they don’t actually feel real patriotism. They don’t know what it means.

The criticism by Christie, Chrysler and GM is a welcome sign that Republicans and corporate leaders may learn to cooperate with the president so many of their colleagues disrespect and deride. It also tells me something else: those three titans think Romney is likely to lose, and they don’t need to pay him any deference or worry about working with him in January.

  27. October 31, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Bri Wi on NBC tonight said “Obama was here in New Jersey today” and showed no vid or reporting on anything Christie or Obama said. They then went right to Peter Alexander for a full report on Romney in Fl. Then introduced Chuck Todd by saying he was travelling with the president today, Todd did not mention anything about Obama, talked only about the election proceeding in spite of all the problems of moving polling places etc. Obama was off limits on NBC. Disgusting and a disservice to viewers—-keeping them uninformed.

Unions, good government groups to file ethics complaint against Romney for failing to disclose his big auto rescue profit
    10/31/12
Groups urge Office of Government Ethics to make Romney disclose or divest
WASHINGTON — A coalition of community, labor and good-government organizations is calling on the U.S. Office of Government Ethics to investigate GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney for noncompliance with the Ethics in Government Act and compel him to either disclose his investments or divest them.
“The American people have a right to know about Governor Romney’s potential conflicts of interest, such as the profits his family made from the auto rescue,” said UAW President Bob King. “It’s time for Governor Romney to disclose or divest.”
“While Romney was opposing the rescue of one of the nation’s most important manufacturing sectors, he was building his fortunes with his Delphi investor group, making his fortunes off the misfortunes of others,” King added.
The groups sending the complaint letter, including SEIU, UAW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Public Citizen, Public Campaign, People for the American Way and The Social Equity Group, believe that Romney’s undisclosed stock holdings create serious conflicts of interest. They point to the auto rescue as a key example.
The Nation recently reported that the Romney family personally profited by at least $15.3 million from the auto loans of 2009 through his investment in the Delphi Corp. auto parts company. Yet Romney’s June 1, 2012, Public Financial Disclosure Report to the Office of Government Ethics did not reveal this windfall because he did not disclose the underlying holdings of his private equity and limited partnership funds.

Same as you, Tally, if the # is not in my address book I never answer my mobile and, of course, the same applies to Skype. Then I thought about all the starving brain cells that are wasted all over the world. I decided to save a few of mine and let it go to voice mail. I haven’t checked the messages. I don’t either and have not been polled. I actually remember being polled in 2008. I never realized, until you brought it up, that these “unknowns” may have been pollsters.

    Hello, TODers!

Lurker de-lurking here. I’ve been lurking here so long I feel as if I know everyone; I’ve cheered with CK on her call with the President, was all sad faced when Dudette lost her space at the DNC , had opinions on the dresses AMK bought for his wife, and I am completely in love with Bob and Yardarm and Lib Librarian and UT. And VC. And Hopefruit. My point is I figured it was time to stop lurking and say ‘Hey’.

I just moved last week from my tiny South American country to Canada. I made that move with great trepidation because I would be far away from family and don’t really know people in Canada, but TOD makes me feel like I brought my virtual family with me. Thank you, Chipsticks, for allowing lurkers like me to be a silent TOD family member.

I kind of invited myself to the TOD Election night watch and after party, I hope no-one minds. I am one of the millions of Global citizens who love and support President Obama (and think Americans are so lucky to have him and can’t understand why this race is even close!) and I have the greatest admiration for the unbridled support you give in this Forum. I send all of you whatever strength of spirit I have to share on the homestretch, and my best wishes to all those affected by the Storm.

Hey Beverly (waves enthusiastically) welcome to the party. The more the merrier. Thank you for the kind words. I hope your transition to Canada occurs smoothly and you make wonderful personal connections.

Hello Beverly – welcome to TOD. I guess you are one of our regular TOD lurkers I refer to in my “rise & shine” greeting! Glad to see that you are de-lurking and hope you will be around to celebrate with us when our PBO is re-elected on Tuesday!! :) :)

Welcome, Beverly! You’ll find a very easy crowd here, and soon, you’ll be posting all the time (addicted like the rest of us…). Welcome to Canada, too (my home nation). You’re going to love it in Canada – make use of the social programs to help you get adjusted and meet people. They’re very welcoming to newcomers. Which province are you in? You’ll find there are global citizens from everywhere on TOD, and many from Canada. Welcome!

Thanks, Theo. I’ve been here just over a week and Canadians are awesome. Last weekend I did my first solo trip on the subway and had trouble buying a pass. I was so shocked when a security officer just gave me a token, just like that, and waved away my thanks. And when I was trying to figure out westbound vs east a young woman just came up to me and asked if she could help. Canadians are awesome!

        I am in Ontario, btw.

Thank you so much, Beverly, for this beautiful comment. We are all working hard to make sure that the citizens of the world, like you, who love and appreciate our incredible President, won’t be disappointed in America on Nov. 6th. Speaking for my self, I deeply appreciate reading comments from people in Canada, Ireland, the U.K., India,Trinidad, Jamaica, Australia, Ghana and other parts of the world. Your love and respect for President Obama vindicates many of us who voted for a man we knew would improve the image and standing of the U.S., which had been badly damaged by the previous administration. Best of luck on you new country. I have family in Canada (nephew and niece and their families) and they all love the country and the people.

In a bet with Axelrod this morning, Joe will grow the mustache if PBO takes Fla or No Carolina. Axe agreed to shave his musgache of 40 years if PBO loses either Penn, Mich, or Wisc. Axe told him that since after the election, there won’t be anything to talk about on Morning Joe, viewers can just tune in to watch is mustache grow.

What State Polls Suggest About the National Vote
    By NATE SILVER

Nearly every evaluation method based on state polls hints at a very slight lead in the popular vote, and an Electoral College victory, for President Obama.

Just got what sounded like an urgent call to come to Mo. this weekend to canvass for Claire McCaskill. (I’m in Illinois) I was sorry to have to turn them down, but I can’t go, and I want to spend every spare minute making calls for President Obama. They said someone just dumped another boatload of money into the campaign of the rape expert, Looney Tunes Todd Akin.

I watched a PBS special last night called BIG SKY,BIG MONEY … gave me a better understanding about the whole Citizens United thing. I don’t understand how the supreme court did what it did. Precisely the reason why the ppl of Montana need to wake up and vote for PBO.

Governor Christi to Fox, Rush, Willard, etc … as of ~ 10 min ago on Twitter …

… he’s correct, of course, and you can be sure come 2014 he’ll be reminding the GOP of that Tweet ….

Personally, my memory isn’t that short. I don’t have Romnesia. I’m glad he’s appreciating the help he’s getting from President Obama, but he’s still the same character who only a few weeks ago was claiming that President Obama didn’t know anything about leadership. I can’t forget that.

http://www.c-span.org/Events/Pres-Obama-Views-Storm-Damage-in-New-Jersey/10737435459-1/ wonderful wonderful man – no adjectives to describe him

I just watched this one – everyone wants to talk to PBO – Gov Christie so respectful, standing behind , smiling and agreeing. Ha – he eventually started talking to some people a little apart from the President & shared a little of PBO’s love.

And one guy just couldn’t keep sitting – although a few people behind the President – showing respect despite the misery of what has happened

Why does it always seems to take a disaster for people to be together help each other and support each other? It is wonderful to see – hope it lasts for the next 4 years
