This and That

Austin Straubel International Airport, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Nov 1

****

****

In a statement, President Obama reacts to NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorsing him: “I’m honored to have Mayor Bloomberg’s endorsement. I deeply respect him for his leadership in business, philanthropy and government, and appreciate the extraordinary job he’s doing right now, leading New York City through these difficult days.

“While we may not agree on every issue, Mayor Bloomberg and I agree on the most important issues of our time – that the key to a strong economy is investing in the skills and education of our people, that immigration reform is essential to an open and dynamic democracy, and that climate change is a threat to our children’s future, and we owe it to them to do something about it. Just as importantly, we agree that whether we are Democrats, Republicans, or independents, there is only one way to solve these challenges and move forward as a nation – together. I look forward to thanking him in person – but for now, he has my continued commitment that this country will stand by New York in its time of need. And New Yorkers have my word that we will recover, we will rebuild, and we will come back stronger.”

It is very sad. Deny facts, deny science, and we wonder why this election is close? Too many poorly educated folks in this country and in particular the GOP.

    Congrats on 1st, df :)

Excellent post, as always, Chips. Since you ask, I like the credits on the photos for 2 reasons: less clutter in the white space between them and, from a copyright perspective, leaves no ambiguity as to source.

Thanks Bob, completely agree. The other thing is I get lots and lots and LOTS of messages from people who appear in photos with the President, or their loved ones do, and they want to know who to contact to get hi-res large versions – this way, once the photos start floating around, they’ll know who to contact. Of course, I’ll probably forget to do it half the time, fuzzy head

I certainly understand and agree with the reasons for putting the photo source in the pics but I must say that for the sake of beauty and art I actually prefer the pics without the sources on the pics. I think the words distract and take away from the completeness, the impact factor and beauty of the individual images. Just saying…. I have a great interest in visual arts and photography so words over pics really bug me…but it will not bug me enough to keep me away from TOD! Still love ya chips…with or without the sources on top of the images!

Can someone answer something, and I am ashamed that I don’t know the answer, but say if President Obama wins the electoral college but not the popular vote (which would be insane) what does that mean? I keep reading about this possible scenario as if it would be a bad thing, but why? He still wins right? I mean I don’t care how he wins as long as he wins right?

    • November 1, 2012 at 4:28 pm

People have tried so hard to de-legitimize his presidency, even after he won the majority of the popular vote in 2008. If he should lose the popular vote but win in the electoral college, Republicans would force it all the way to the Supreme Court- they would never back off ‘for the good of the country’ the way Al Gore did. They might whip up their supporters to protest and hwo knows where it would end. His policy initiatives could be voted down because he didn’t have a ‘mandate’. We need to make sure that he gets a good majority in order to be able to govern effectively.

Yes……he still wins. Just remember in 2000. Dec 9, 2000, Scalia stopped the counts in FL. Gore had the popular vote. Harris and JEB made sure that W got the confusion going and Albert Gore, Jr., was robbed the presidency. It happened one more time in the 1800s too. Johnson, I believe……after Lincoln’s time and assassination…..and FL was involved that time too.

Oh, okay then. I guess I didn’t undertand that part. I thought in 2000, the race was close in the popular vote and that’s why they did the recount. That’s scary. I will keep my fingers crossed that he wins the popular vote.

GOOD POLICY IS GOOD POLITICS – PRESIDENT OBAMA “WE ARE HERE FOR YOU”

    The ED Show – October 31, 2012

    ———————————————–

President Barack Obama tells storm ravaged towns in New Jersey and along the East Coast “We’re here for you.” The example of good government was on display when President Obama went to New Jersey and toured damage with Governor Chris Christie. MSNBC political analyst Jonathan Alter joined Ed Schultz to discuss how good policy is good politics.

Jonathan Alter emphasized three very important points that should be focused on like a laser for the next five days because of the impact of hurricane Sandy:

    1) THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT – The Republican Party and Mitt Romney wants to defund, send to the states and privatize FEMA. Imagine what that would have meant for responding to hurricane Sandy.

    2) THE AMERICAN JOBS ACT (INFRASTRUCTURE) – The Republican Party blocked the AJA infrastructure component.

    3) THE REALITY OF CLIMATE CHANGE – The Republican Party is full of climate change deniers.

They just keep on jumping off those proverbial cliffs, go ahead fella:

Joseph Farah — World Net Daily:

“If Barack Obama is re-elected Nov. 6 for a second term, he will declare a full-scale war on his domestic opposition.

There may not be another free and fair election in America.

I would expect due process to go the way of the horse and buggy.

I think he will move to shut down and destroy all independent media.

In fact, I think his biggest critics will be rounded up in the name of national security.”

Loved the picture of a person giving the President a check for the Red Cross. The person knows the Red Cross will get it directly, and knows who supports the Red Cross. If Romney had been smart, he would have asked those people for donations to the Red Cross, instead of cans, and started it off by giving $10,000 the amount he wanted to bet Perry, in a check to the Red Cross. He could have gotten lots of good press that way…….but he is selfish, and wouldn’t think of that, and neither would his campaign committee.
