Visiting a campaign office in Chicago today
We care going to win.
In my rush to be first, I typed care when I meant are.
But then again, we are going to win because we care.
Yes We Will …. congrats on 1st japa!!!
And give your wife a big birthday hug from the whole TOD community.
Congrats on first, japa… and happy birthday to your wife Bobfr, please thank her for giving you time to be our twitter warrior!
It’s a tie.
A treble for the tied-three!
Oh my Lord. A fitting end to a long campaign season.
Yayy, my first pic from Chips! ~clears throat~ I wish to thank all the little people…
Now you’re talking Chips.
No, Japa. Congratulations, Japa. Happy Birthday, ber6964 and Bob’s wife.

Decisions are made by those who show up.— Josiah Bartlet (@Pres_Bartlet) November 06, 2012
Actually Josiah, that may sound good, but decisions are also made by those who don’t show up, so maybe you should qualify what type of decisions those who are engaged make. Just saying.
Look at those pictures. Does that guy look worried to you?
He looks FABULOUS as always! The dream of my life is to meet him just once!
As long as he has Michelle with him.
You got that right! Love ‘em both! However I’ll be staring extra long and hard at him!
And how ON EARTH does he look so refreshed today?!
Um, about those Romney internals from yesterday? Yeah, just as I suspected.

“Today I vote for the belief that health insurance is a human right not a privilege. Today I vote for the millions of young adults who are still on their parents health insurance. Today I vote for the little girl who has cancer that has health insurance now because of Obamacare! Today I vote for Planned Parenthood! Today I vote for the 47%! Today I vote for all human beings that deserve equal rights. Today I vote for the woman’s right to choose. Today I vote for the wealthy paying their fair share (this includes Romney). Today I will/have vote(d) for President Barack Obama and there isn’t a line, no matter how long, that can hold me back.”
— Marina McRae, First Time Voter
Don’t kids like this just give you faith in the future? I spoke to a 17-year-old today who has been working full out for months at his local OFA, was left in charge for the weekend! He’s too young to vote by about 24 days, but with a person this dedicated before he can even vote, you just know he’s going to be a powerhouse!
Don’t kids like this just give you faith in the future? – Yes, and there are more of them around than you’d be able to tell if you only watched the news.

Think I could make a request for today, please? Can people refrain from posting video of random stuff. It makes is very difficult to load the page and refresh the page. So do too many embedded tweets. I’m going to be using a little laptop from a Dems party tonight and it doesn’t have nearly the capability of my home computer. So between trying to read this site and watching twitter crash, my poor little puter is gonna be exhausted. So let’s keep the videos to only stuff we must know today and the embedded tweets limited to pictures of people voting. What do you think?
THIS! Thank you. As I told Chips earlier: I am poll watching and have my iPad so the less pics and video, the better…….and shorter threads. No, I am not whining…….just sayin’.
I find that on my iphone, just press the x to stop loading when the url ‘bar’ reaches around 3/4 helps a lot. The pics and videos won’t load completely but it also prevents Safari from crashing, especially on the long threads.
Okay, I can handle that request by restraining myself, Tien & TM. It may be difficult when I see any goodies, but I’ll try.
Link to the goodies, don’t embed them.
We’ll try to get the balance right tonight Tien, but this site is never too friendly to iPads, etc.
You’re a trooper, Goddess of Chips. I love you!
Love ya back!!
Aaah! Got it.
C’mon. I don’t mean any harm Tien Le but today is a crummy day to ask for that. Today is election day. D-Day. Folks are excited and I for one want to see all the thoughts, tweets, vids (even of random stuff) expressed here on this very site. There will never be another day like today. 5 to 10 years from now I will be searching through Chips archives to relive the moment and I want to be able to capture all the excitement.
I get that it causes some trouble to a few and that is very unfortunate but gosh to suppress all the goodies in terms of insights and posts from everyone else on this very important Election day of all days just isn’t fair.
sorry but I want to see it all.

What a jarring photo. That happened in the lifetimes of many of the same people who are trying to suppress the vote. The best revenge really is to vote – in absolutely massive numbers. The GOP haven’t lifted a finger to move this country forward these past 40 years – and specifically in the last four – and they put forward a complete charlatan to run against an absolutely spectacular President Obama. They deserve to be crushed!
This is a great piece of writing, and although we, of course, are all convinced, it lays out the choices of this election in the clearest possible way.
“Hope and change? In 2008, it was an aspiration. In 2012, it is a work in progress. On Tuesday, we’ll find out if the progress continues.”

There is such satisfaction in casting a vote for President Obama :-). I was #17 in line!
Wooooot, congratulations CTGirl!
It felt so good! I walked out in tears…I just felt a great sense of accomplishment … and I am in a blue state
Chips, thank you for keeping me sane for the last many months – well, ok, a bit sane :-).
‘well, ok, a bit sane’
I can so identify with this, CTGirl, especially the ‘bit’ part! What with Chips helping to keep my blood pressure down as well, I’m almost tempted to call her ‘Dr. Chips’.
Oh, you’re already certified, Dr. C? I see. Explains your excellent job here lowering blood pressure and providing prescriptions of the best medicine (laughter). / psst. Looks like you need a little more body flesh to balance the weight of your head though. You have to know it’s not healthy to be too skinny./
Good for you, ctgirl7!
I voted in my completely blue Chicago northside precinct. No real surprises, except they said turnout was really good this morning (we voted about 9:30). They were surprised it was that heavy since early voting was very good in our county.
My husband screwed up his ballot and got all upset and had to do it again. I can’t imagine how awful it is for other seniors who have to wait in line to vote and have to put up with intimidation. The head guy at the polls has been at every election we’ve voted in in this precinct — that’s 25 years. Calmed him down, gave him another ballot. We’re so blessed that there are polling places every three blocks in Chicago so we’ve never had to wait very long to vote.
The good news: young people working the polls. Dedicated, enthusiastic young people. I’m accustomed to ancient poll workers, and it was delightful to see these young people taking part in their democracy.
We called friends and family to see if anyone needed a ride to the polls. My disabled brother-in-law had voted early or we would have driven him to the polls (even though he may have voted for Romney. It’s southside Chicago, after all. Although he has a gay son and hopefully that has helped him look at things differently).
My husband will stop by the senior center later in the day. I have to work, but if he’s needed to drive people to the polls he wants to help.
Wish I could do more.

The student vote will be critical in places like FL and VA and NC. In 2008, this group was expected to vote at a higher level than normal but didn’t. From what I have been seeing, appears this year they are following through.
Those Pell Grants and payback provisions should be overwhelmingly motivating for every student in America (and their parents!!)
Me and Mom are holding signs at the polls!
Go jovie and mom. Say Hi and Thanks to her from a friggin’ furriner.
As for you, why would you need any thanks ?
You’re both CHAMPIONS!!!!!
I just voted for our wonderful President in my very red town!!!
Congrats debz, well done!
Thanks Debz. I’ll sit here and dream there were more than a few like you that have diminished the red more than a little. Let me know later tonight what the final outcome for your town is; want to see if I got my dream fulfilled.
I will let you know!

Hi everyone, this morning while driving to work I turned my car radio on and it was on KIIS FM, the Ryan Seacreast Show and then I had a voice saying “Is that Ryan Seacrest?” and Ryan answered yes and then the voice said “the next voice you will be hearing is that of the President of the United States”. You can imagine my shock and then the PBO came on the line and Ryan asked him a number of questions. PBO said everyone should go out and vote no matter who you are voting for. He said our democracy depends on the people and if more and more people vote, then the people always gets it right. Then Ryan asked if PBO wins will we see Malia dating! PBO answered that “any young man who would be able to pass through the secret service deserves a hearing!” But he said all he wants is for his girls to grow up like normal children. It was a fantastic interview and I could feel the confidence in his voice. If we all do our part today i.e. vote then, I think we got this.
You know, people think Ryan Seacrest is an idiot. I was of the same opinion. But from I’ve seen, he’s a pretty decent interviewer.
PBO said everyone should go out and vote no matter who you are voting for.
That’s my man. Always classy.
Now, if that was me, Amk, I’d have said:
“If you’re a Republican – stay at home, dick.”
That’s probably why I’m not President of the world.
i’d vote for you after that.
Thank you 4More!
I know what you mean as when I was calling everyone I knew to be sure they got their ballot in the mail in time I purposely did not call those I knew would be voting for Romney. I know naughty me!
You are right LL, the interview was pretty good and I agree with you that Ryan Seacrest is not an idiot. He had better questions than the so called journalists. He even asked how PBO was feeling today and PBO said that anyone who tells you they are not feeling anxious at the beginning is a liar. That as the day progresses he gets calmer because the people will have spoken and you have to accept the people’s verdict but he was confident we will prevail.
Thank you for sharing this ‘real’ bit of news, Ahero. For some reason reporting from on the ground obots always warms ‘the cockles of my heart’, whatever those might be.

I’m in PA so I was curious about how the ID issue would be handled.
Those around me offered their driver’s licenses to the poll workers. I did not.
Said my name and voila, signed my card and along I went.
You do not HAVE to show your ID. It’s the law.
Fired Up….Ready to Go!!!!
Well done, Grace!!
Okay. I have a poll that will make you smile. It isn’t our very important state of Ohio, or Wisconsin, or Pennylvania or Florida. It is Arizona. It is not scientific. I listen to 99.9 KEZ with Beth and Friends on my way to work. I know Beth is for Obama, but the ads have been non-stop for Flake, Sheriff Arpaio and trashing our President. They have a poll on their blog asking who their listeners are voting for. Obama, Carmona and Penzone are leading. That, my friends, is very positive.
This is excellent news!

I love this tweet. She’s white and from Pennsylvania and was not asked to show a voter ID but an African-American man was asked to show ID. The candidate who’s won the Guam straw poll has won the presidency every single time dating back to ’84. Bush won it in ’04.
That small city in NH or some NE state that has votes counted first ended up being a tie 5 to 5. That had me set back as it usually gets the vote right on who wins. It may be close. Hope not.
One town. The second town went for PBO big: 18-7 or something like that. Ended up PBO 23-12, or 2-1. The indies went for PBO.

I voted early this morning and stood at the Democratic donut and coffee table in the parking lot afterwards. It felt good to be there talking to other voters and feeling proud of PBO and the vote I just cast for him. I am so wanting to hit fast forward on this day. I am curious about what will happen in Ohio…Florida…PA! I hope we hear in a very clear way that Obama/Biden won big tonight…and that we do not need to wait 10 days for the Ohio provisional ballots to be counted. Last night my dear husband wanted to be snuggle with me after the kids went to bed. Yeah that did not happen! Oh my who could relax the night before election day…and there was no way I was going to miss listening to Michelle and PBO speak live last night from Iowa! My poor husband! LOL! Love you all here at TOD, but most especially you Chips. Thank you so much for all you have done and all you continue to do to highlight this journey of Barack Obama. I check in here everyday although often I do not take the time to write a comment. I will always remember these years of the Obama Presidency as some of the very best times of my life. I can’t wait for and am so happy and hopeful for the next four years that are about to begin…we just need to wait a few more hours to start the celebration. In the meantime, let’s do all that we can to make sure people are voting! I think I will send some friends a text message now reminding them to vote today! happy election day everyone!
Great stuff, lovingandlaughing!
Mr. dotster recently asked me in a sad, pleading tone, “Will you go out with me again after the election?” He’s been a mostly good sport about my singular obsession, but I think he’s just about out of patience. Election has arrived in the nick of time. Better be positive outcome too, or I won’t be going out with anyone anywhere—-I will be under sedation somewhere. (well, almost that bad)

This is in lower Manhattan where the participation rate is generally about 37% of RV show up. Everyone is showing up today. I think the voter suppression antics have awakened a sleeping beast and our victory will be bigger than predicted.
Outstanding news, Vicki!!! And, hope you and all your loved ones are recovering from Sandy.
New post everyone:
Checking in to report my few calls to Florida voters. I made 25, which is precious few, I know, but the anxiety level in me was sky high. Maybe it’s me, but I find this harder than anything I’ve ever done. I made more calls this time than the last and I’m glad I did. Just wish I was braver.
To all of you who have made calls, my hats off to you. You deserve medals. And if you’re knocking on doors, all I can say is you are awesome!
It is amazing journey. It is revealing things about myself and others, some good stuff and some not so good. But it is real and honest, everything coming to the light. Amazing.
Hey! 25 is good! Every bit counts!!
I’m so happy my company is giving everyone 2 hours off paid to go and vote. I’m excited because it’s going to be my very first vote as an American and the fact that it’s going to be for PBO will make it all the more memorable in the years to come!
Congratulations on your first time voting as an American. How cool is it that you’ll cast that 1st ever vote for the magnificent President Barack Obama? Let’s go and win this.

Congratulations! On your citizenship and your vote! I cannot understand people to do not take this right and privilege seriously!
Just voted. I live in Republican country. A total wingnut precinct. It was empty. I didn’t even have to wait. My neighbors are not turning out for Romney like they did for Bush. Not even close.
Took off work last week and yesterday to work for OFA in VA. I live in MD. I am physically exhausted. Volunteered to work until noon today. I drove elderly folks to the polls this morning. I sure hope we win VA. I have worked my hump off and donated over 10K to this campaign. We will win!!
God bless, Claire.
