I am not waiting until 2017, I plan to start putting out feelers right away. We-e-ell, right after the inauguration. Or maybe, after the President’s 1st 100 days of the new term? Just to make sure he’s off to a good start before I let him fly on his own, you know? Push him out of the nest, like I’m told mother birds do. Oh. What? He isn’t the one lingering in the nest? Oh! After all the election is over so why am I still here? Cuz I am hooked on you and PBO and seeing all the thoughts after the election ended. I did think that maybe we need to push for more House Dems in 2014 and to keep the Senate so Obama could have his last two years be really productive. I worry about a GOP House continuing to obstruct and come up with crazy ideas.
OG, we are all doomed, wanting to know what will happen next and not wanting to miss a moment of it! We might as well make ourselves comfortable and accept the inevitable. Teabaggery not so useful. Listening to Randi Rhodes this afternoon she thinks the Teabaggers will be a footnote in political history. The big money baggers are not getting their money’s work on these one term candidates.
Biden, in the interview with Tweety on Sunday, made it clear that there were members of the Republican Congress who want to “break the fever” (Joe’s words). He seemed somewhat confident.
For once, I think those republicans were sincere. If I’m not mistaken, Joe was mostly talking about “a dozen” senators. However, I think those senators and Joe have underestimated the capacity of the right-wing hate machine to control the “electoral destiny” of those republicans.
So it’s possible that all of this “good will” will disappear very rapidly. We’ll see. What I suspect though, from watching and listening very carefully to President Obama in his speeches this week, is that the president has every intent to work more and more with the grassroots to put pressure on Congress. In his first term he had to tackle so many urgent problems he didn’t have enough time to cultivate and use OFA to its full potential. Now I sense he intends to work constantly with “the people” . Restoring the people’s power has been his true dream, the main reason he entered politics. Because he knows that the real agent of chance is an engaged citizenry.
You’re right. He even said in his victory speech that democracy doesn’t stop at voting, people have to participate in the governing process, because the government is of the people and by the people. He intends to call on people to own their democracy, because when he walks out in 2017, people have to be ready to “guard the change”. He means business.
POB used his skills as a great Community Organizer to get the vote out that helped put Pres. Bill Clinton in the WH. That is where Tweety is so shortsighted in his comments about POB making a public statement of thanks last evening. That crap made me so upset. POB started back long, long ago in Chicago working the streets to get those votes out that helped President Clinton. Thanks can go so far back in peoples lives.
Plus, I know from friends that POB had already made personal thank yous to the likes of President Clinton and others. That is who President Barack Obama is as a decent and grateful person. Tweety needs to stop and watch closely how POB carries himself as a man and as POTUS. If there is a “Thank You,” to be made, you can count on it that POB has already made that call or personal in person contact.
I refuse to allow Tweety and Eddie ride President Obama in his second term. We are supporters here, and we will respectfully call these people out from the get go when they start this complaining about POB. Let us put them on notice.

Yes indeed Jojothecat! My contribution to re-elect President Obama was worth ever penny. I gave twice as much this time around than I did in 2008 and I am proud of it. The only thing I am disappointed about is that one of my candidate for the Senate, Dr Rich Carmona of AZ, came up short.
I am a disabled individual with MS, but I took a part time job for the first time in 7 years just so I could have extra money to donate to the Obama campaign. My only regret is that I wish I could have donated more lol. Every penny well spent. I am glad Wisconsin sent a message to Romney and Ryan about their anti-union and anti public sector workers policies. Walker may have survived a recall but I don’t think he will be re-elected in 2014.
Just getting home after a long day at work with 3 1/2 hrs sleep last night. My whole office was in an elated mood. It was really sweet.
I’ve been in torture not being able to see all the final numbers roll in. Can’t believe Fla still isn’t called. Scratch that! I DO believe it.
Now we have to go after the media punditry with all guns blazing and no letting up. We really have to clean them up and as PBO says, the power is ours.

I’ve been wanting to challenge the fallacy of demographics as the key to understanding what happened. Yes, Gallup failed epically, and yes demographics probably played a role in states like CA, NV, CO, VA and FL. But the fact of the matter is that President Obama won states that are predominantly white and lost badly in states that have the highest percentage of African American voters. Somebody needs to explain to me how President Obama was able to win big in VT, ME, MA, NH, WA, OR, MN, IA, without the overwhelming support of white voters? Although non white votes played a big role, I doubt that the President would have won: NY, NJ, MD, CA, CO, NV, NM, IL, MI, WI, OH and VA. without 40-50% of the white votes. None of these states have more than 15% of the AA population. By contrast, states like MS, SC, GA, AL, LA, African Americans make up between 30-20% of the population; yet the President badly lost these states.
The media needs to be honest. The problem is not white voters throughout the United States. The problem is with white voters in the former Confederate states and some parts of the west (may be some were settled by former Southerners) like Oklahoma, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas. The vast majority of whites in the North East and Pacific West voted for President. Likewise a substantial majority of whites in the Mid West voted for the President. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of white southerners, who are so invested in white supremacy, voted against the President.

I really wish the DCCC would back off of fundraising for just 5 minutes. I swear I am getting absolutely bombarded with email from them. It’s nearly constant!
The more money they can raise while people are paying attention, the less these politicians need to spend their time fundraising in Washington – and some of them may be in debt. But, I agree with you – I’m donation-weary.
Yeah – they’re pretty aggressive. They were calling me about seven times per day in those last weeks. When I picked up one time, the guy just wouldn’t take “no” for an answer, even though I’d made a pretty hefty donation just a few days before. Oh well!
I only got calls a couple of OFA calls throughout the whole campaign (although guess they didn’t need to call me much, cuz I was friggin sending something practically every week). Also heard from Alan Grayson & Tammy Duckworth’s people once each after I sent them a couple of bucks. But that’s pretty much.
Email, however, is pretty much drowning in donation requests – still. I might’ve even missed some important messages, bcz I spent so much time deleting stuff, I didn’t bother reading a lot of them.
I live in California, and all the calls were from donations. I didn’t mind so much, until the last aggressive one. I haven’t received a single call today – and haven’t checked my email to see if there are more requests. I have a standing donation with them, too. At this point, I just choose not to pick up.
I understand the frustration because I got bombarded by fund raising requests from who was who in the Democratic party. On the other hand, I also understand the forces of moneyed people that they have to go against.

And—-wrecking a lot of peoples’ talking points, including multiple pundits, President Obama got basically the same percentage of white voters as did Kerry and Gore. (39%)
The makeup of Obama voters this time was 56% white, 24% black, 14% Latino, 4% Asian, 2% other.
The question is: What was the make up of voters in each of the states that President Obama won? I am sure that in VT, white voters who voted for President Obama were more than 56% of the vote and both Black and Latino voters made up less than 24% and 14%, respectively, of the VT voters. And, while the make up of Latino voters in CA, NV, CO, and NM was probably higher than 14%. the AA population in these states is less than 10% I am also sure that the make up of Black voters who made it possible for him to win Washington, Oregon, Iowa, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Wisconsin, etc. were far much less than 24% black and less than 14% Latino. My bottom line is that if it weren’t for the combined White votes, African American votes, Latino/Hispanic votes, Asian votes, and the votes of others who chose not identify by race, President Obama would not have been elected or re-elected. I am sure African Americans in MS, AL, GA, LA, SC, NC, TX, KY, and AR, voted 90-100% for the President. Yet, the President lost those states badly. Other than D.C., the states where the president won 55% or more votes are predominantly majority white states with the non white population making up less than 10% of the electorate.
I am sorry, but I find these statistics about the white vote meaningless when they not put in context, I see this preoccupation with white voters and demographics as yet another attempt to deny President Obama legitimacy. I bet you if you look at the states that gave President Obama the Electoral Votes necessary to be elected President, the percentage of African American and Latino voters would be much lower than 24% and 14% respectively. Again, I don’t think Black and Latino voters made up 38% of the electorate in VT, RI, ME, CT, MA, IA, WI, MI, CO, WA, OR, etc., etc.,

The President heard from his team about the federal resources, personnel and expertise being used to support state and local recovery efforts in the wake of Sandy, including efforts to take additional steps to support preparedness efforts ahead of the severe weather. At the requests of New York and New Jersey, FEMA continues to deliver commodities including food, water, blankets, generators and others resources to distribution points across the region impacted by Sandy, and FEMA continues to pre-position additional resources and supplies to ensure they are in place if needed by our state and local partners to respond to the coastal low. The President was also updated on efforts to coordinate with state and local officials on emergency housing needs and long term housing problems caused by the storm. He was also briefed on the ongoing efforts to improve access to gasoline and restore electricity in communities impacted by Sandy. Given the bad weather conditions caused by the coastal low, the President closed the call by expressing his concern for the safety of people who live in communities damaged by Sandy as well as the first responders, relief workers and utility crews who are working round-the-clock to help those communities recover.”
Outspoken former sitcom star Roseanne Barr’s initial bid for president may have been met with laughs, but the comedienne actually managed to finish in fifth place in the race for the White House. Barr won 48,797 votes, besting former Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson by nearly 15,000 votes. Barr and her running mate, Cindy Sheehan, ran on the Peace and Freedom ticket, with a platform that included marijuana legalization, environmental preservation, and equal rights. She may have lost in the end, but she tweeted her satisfaction with Obama’s victory: “CONGRATULATIONS OBAMA! #barr2016.”
At least she was gracious in defeat. I can’t believe those 48,797 people wasted their votes though – if the margin of victory had been that narrow and the result different than what happened, then that would have been horrific!
True. Especially since she was a “contender”. He’s the President – there’s nothing they can do now to take that away from him, and so all their slights are just rolling off (for today). So, one of his first gestures as president-elect would be to purchase a pricey hunting dog once bred by European royalty?
In that sense, Romney’s election-night celebration was a fitting coda to his presidential bid: It abandoned any pretense of being a campaign for the common man. ‘
To the very end, he was an elitist. Anyone not in the top 2% or part of the Mormon church is crazy to think that Romney was concerned about their well-being. someone posted earlier that their friend was concerned about President Obama’s win because their credit rating had been decreased – and I just thought – so why does she think Romney cares about her?
That is so disturbing on so many levels. Folks we really dodged a bullet and President Obama was not having it…he was not letting America be lead by this guy. He saw up close what GWB and his goons did and was not going to let it happen and neither was Bill Clinton. He knew what these people were capable of and it was frightening to them.
Those poor people had a ten page ballot…….that should be against the law. The electorate needs to send a message to the Gov and Sec of State that this kind of crap is ridiculous.

I agree with your assessments. Geithner especially – he must be exhausted, along with Hillary! Remember in those early days, Geithner was on his own trying to keep the economic world from imploding into recession! And being constantly attacked by Arianna Huffington. He deserves a high paying job with little work – a rest!
LaHood has already said that he will leave at the end of this term. Geithner had in mind to move on last year, but President Obama convinced him to stay because it would be so hard to get a replacement confirmed in the Senate. Chu said that it was between him and the President when asked. Lisa Jackson said she was definitely staying.
This is just DC insiders–they like to speculate on everything. They do not need anything to base it one. Fun and games for them.

The U.S. Mission to the United Nations helped move a controversial arms trade treaty on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after President Obama won reelection.
The Obama administration was widely blamed by treaty advocates for derailing the effort back in July when it asked for more time amid growing opposition from Republicans and pro-gun-rights Democrats who are worried the treaty would affect the sale of civilian weapons in the United States. Fifty senators — including eight Democrats — signed on to a letter at the time signaling their opposition to the treaty.
The treaty sailed through the General Assembly’s disarmament committee on Wednesday, with the United States joining 156 other countries in voting to finalize the treaty in March. Russia was the only major arms exporter to vote against.
“This is an opportune moment for all countries to get behind this life-saving treaty to prevent needless suffering worldwide from the unregulated flow of illegal arms,” Amnesty International USA executive director Suzanne Nossel said in a statement.

Teabaggery not so useful. Listening to Randi Rhodes this afternoon she thinks the Teabaggers will be a footnote in political history. The big money baggers are not getting their money’s work on these one term candidates.
Biden, in the interview with Tweety on Sunday, made it clear that there were members of the Republican Congress who want to “break the fever” (Joe’s words). He seemed somewhat confident.
For once, I think those republicans were sincere. If I’m not mistaken, Joe was mostly talking about “a dozen” senators. However, I think those senators and Joe have underestimated the capacity of the right-wing hate machine to control the “electoral destiny” of those republicans.
So it’s possible that all of this “good will” will disappear very rapidly. We’ll see. What I suspect though, from watching and listening very carefully to President Obama in his speeches this week, is that the president has every intent to work more and more with the grassroots to put pressure on Congress. In his first term he had to tackle so many urgent problems he didn’t have enough time to cultivate and use OFA to its full potential. Now I sense he intends to work constantly with “the people” . Restoring the people’s power has been his true dream, the main reason he entered politics. Because he knows that the real agent of chance is an engaged citizenry.
You’re right. He even said in his victory speech that democracy doesn’t stop at voting, people have to participate in the governing process, because the government is of the people and by the people. He intends to call on people to own their democracy, because when he walks out in 2017, people have to be ready to “guard the change”. He means business.

POB used his skills as a great Community Organizer to get the vote out that helped put Pres. Bill Clinton in the WH. That is where Tweety is so shortsighted in his comments about POB making a public statement of thanks last evening. That crap made me so upset. POB started back long, long ago in Chicago working the streets to get those votes out that helped President Clinton. Thanks can go so far back in peoples lives.
Plus, I know from friends that POB had already made personal thank yous to the likes of President Clinton and others. That is who President Barack Obama is as a decent and grateful person. Tweety needs to stop and watch closely how POB carries himself as a man and as POTUS. If there is a “Thank You,” to be made, you can count on it that POB has already made that call or personal in person contact.
I refuse to allow Tweety and Eddie ride President Obama in his second term. We are supporters here, and we will respectfully call these people out from the get go when they start this complaining about POB. Let us put them on notice.

I am a disabled individual with MS, but I took a part time job for the first time in 7 years just so I could have extra money to donate to the Obama campaign. My only regret is that I wish I could have donated more lol. Every penny well spent. Inside Gallup’s Epic Fail
I’ve been wanting to challenge the fallacy of demographics as the key to understanding what happened. Yes, Gallup failed epically, and yes demographics probably played a role in states like CA, NV, CO, VA and FL. But the fact of the matter is that President Obama won states that are predominantly white and lost badly in states that have the highest percentage of African American voters. Somebody needs to explain to me how President Obama was able to win big in VT, ME, MA, NH, WA, OR, MN, IA, without the overwhelming support of white voters? Although non white votes played a big role, I doubt that the President would have won: NY, NJ, MD, CA, CO, NV, NM, IL, MI, WI, OH and VA. without 40-50% of the white votes. None of these states have more than 15% of the AA population. By contrast, states like MS, SC, GA, AL, LA, African Americans make up between 30-20% of the population; yet the President badly lost these states.
The media needs to be honest. The problem is not white voters throughout the United States. The problem is with white voters in the former Confederate states and some parts of the west (may be some were settled by former Southerners) like Oklahoma, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas. The vast majority of whites in the North East and Pacific West voted for President. Likewise a substantial majority of whites in the Mid West voted for the President. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of white southerners, who are so invested in white supremacy, voted against the President.
I really wish the DCCC would back off of fundraising for just 5 minutes. I swear I am getting absolutely bombarded with email from them. It’s nearly constant!
The more money they can raise while people are paying attention, the less these politicians need to spend their time fundraising in Washington – and some of them may be in debt. But, I agree with you – I’m donation-weary.
I totally understand the rationale, but it is a bit much. In the span of time since I’ve written that post, I’ve gotten 3 more.
Yeah – they’re pretty aggressive. They were calling me about seven times per day in those last weeks. When I picked up one time, the guy just wouldn’t take “no” for an answer, even though I’d made a pretty hefty donation just a few days before. Oh well!
Wowzers! Well, I should stop complaining now.
Battleground state?
I only got calls a couple of OFA calls throughout the whole campaign (although guess they didn’t need to call me much, cuz I was friggin sending something practically every week). Also heard from Alan Grayson & Tammy Duckworth’s people once each after I sent them a couple of bucks. But that’s pretty much.
Email, however, is pretty much drowning in donation requests – still. I might’ve even missed some important messages, bcz I spent so much time deleting stuff, I didn’t bother reading a lot of them.
I live in California, and all the calls were from donations. I didn’t mind so much, until the last aggressive one. I haven’t received a single call today – and haven’t checked my email to see if there are more requests. I have a standing donation with them, too. At this point, I just choose not to pick up.
I understand the frustration because I got bombarded by fund raising requests from who was who in the Democratic party. On the other hand, I also understand the forces of moneyed people that they have to go against.
sort of irritating, isn’t it. i guess they feel the momentum, and i’m sure there are bills to pay, but i’d hope for a few days respite from the political emails.
Hint: unsubscribe. You can always go back later. I very much needed a break.

The question is: What was the make up of voters in each of the states that President Obama won? I am sure that in VT, white voters who voted for President Obama were more than 56% of the vote and both Black and Latino voters made up less than 24% and 14%, respectively, of the VT voters. And, while the make up of Latino voters in CA, NV, CO, and NM was probably higher than 14%. the AA population in these states is less than 10% I am also sure that the make up of Black voters who made it possible for him to win Washington, Oregon, Iowa, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Wisconsin, etc. were far much less than 24% black and less than 14% Latino. My bottom line is that if it weren’t for the combined White votes, African American votes, Latino/Hispanic votes, Asian votes, and the votes of others who chose not identify by race, President Obama would not have been elected or re-elected. I am sure African Americans in MS, AL, GA, LA, SC, NC, TX, KY, and AR, voted 90-100% for the President. Yet, the President lost those states badly. Other than D.C., the states where the president won 55% or more votes are predominantly majority white states with the non white population making up less than 10% of the electorate.
I am sorry, but I find these statistics about the white vote meaningless when they not put in context, I see this preoccupation with white voters and demographics as yet another attempt to deny President Obama legitimacy. I bet you if you look at the states that gave President Obama the Electoral Votes necessary to be elected President, the percentage of African American and Latino voters would be much lower than 24% and 14% respectively. Again, I don’t think Black and Latino voters made up 38% of the electorate in VT, RI, ME, CT, MA, IA, WI, MI, CO, WA, OR, etc., etc.,

At least she was gracious in defeat. I can’t believe those 48,797 people wasted their votes though – if the margin of victory had been that narrow and the result different than what happened, then that would have been horrific!

LaHood has already said that he will leave at the end of this term. Geithner had in mind to move on last year, but President Obama convinced him to stay because it would be so hard to get a replacement confirmed in the Senate. Chu said that it was between him and the President when asked. Lisa Jackson said she was definitely staying.
This is just DC insiders–they like to speculate on everything. They do not need anything to base it one. Fun and games for them.

The U.S. Mission to the United Nations helped move a controversial arms trade treaty on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after President Obama won reelection.
The Obama administration was widely blamed by treaty advocates for derailing the effort back in July when it asked for more time amid growing opposition from Republicans and pro-gun-rights Democrats who are worried the treaty would affect the sale of civilian weapons in the United States. Fifty senators — including eight Democrats — signed on to a letter at the time signaling their opposition to the treaty.
The treaty sailed through the General Assembly’s disarmament committee on Wednesday, with the United States joining 156 other countries in voting to finalize the treaty in March. Russia was the only major arms exporter to vote against.
“This is an opportune moment for all countries to get behind this life-saving treaty to prevent needless suffering worldwide from the unregulated flow of illegal arms,” Amnesty International USA executive director Suzanne Nossel said in a statement.
