Congrats all. Just off the local newspaper here in Palm Beach FL. Doesn’t look like things will be settled until tomorrow. Evidently ballot count from Absentee and Provisional must end by tomorrow by noon!
Proud – You may have been one of them, but did you see where scads of Floridians have been emailing Scott about the voting problems? How fast can he be kicked out of office?
OK, so Ashley Judd has not ruled out running against The Turtle. I believe she will. Her activism has kicked up and she is being talked about in these circles. The good news is that Mitch McConnell’s approval rating in Kentucky is hovering around 37/50. Ashley also completed an MPA from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2010. I hope she jumps in sometime in the not-too-distant future.
I sincerely believe that if it were not for the lies that McConnell and other republicans have fed the people of KY for the last 30+ years, that McConnell would have been gone a long time ago. IMO, he is one totally unless member of Congress. I will never forget how, in 2010, when some important pieces of legislation needed to be addressed before a recess, McConnell made a comment about how important it was that he make it to the opening ceremonies of the Kentucky Derby on time.
meta – It would be so, so funny if a “celebrity” (albeit a smart, activist, credentialed one) beat out The Turtle. Plus, her heart’s in the right place and I believe she’s been involved in many global causes. Go, Ashley!
I redally think this is the first day of the second term, not January 21. PBO has laid down the gauntlet, drawn the line in the sand, crossed the Rubicon, etc.
There were two aspects of his address, one direct, one less so.
The first was the call for the immediate extension of the middle class tax cuts. And he put it in a wahy that makes it hard (though with this GOP not impossible) for the Republicans to refuse.
But just as important, he talked about compromise, but there was soemthing missing this time around. He did NOT say “Everything is on the table.” I don’t know if Boehner is smart enough to get the message, but he basically told him not to come in with cuts to Social Security or Medicare or Medicaid benefits. If you have another way of saving costs, fine, but benefits are not under discussion.
When Boehner and McConell come in next week, they better come prepared with something serious.
The deluded Republicans are acting as if this is the same [perceived] PBO from 2009. I repeat what I’ve been saying since election night: they ain’t gonna know what hit them, as evidenced by the same tired lies and spin from Boehner/McConnell and a POTUS who is stating his mandate loud and clear.
Well, we tried to de-couple the two different taxes before and it didn’t work. Maybe now that all are set to expire, we’ll get some motion on the 98%. I just don’t trust these RW snakes to do anything in the right direction, even though it will surely spell their doom if this election is any indicator.
The senate has already passed a stand alone bill for middle-class tax cuts. All that remains is for the house to pass it. If they don’t then the Republicans will be seen as raising taxes on the middle class.
Neither do I. But because the bill is standalone and has already been passed in the senate, it’s difficult for Boehner to stand in the way without negative political consequences to him and/or the house GOP caucus.
It’s time for us to mobilize to help the President. Lets tweet, Facebook, e-mail, fax, make phone calls, sign petitions, and do whatever it takes to pressure the House of Representatives to pass a bill extending the tax cuts for the Middle class and for small businesses.
Given that PBO started on his presidency the day after the election in 2008, I think this view is consistent with his determination, and his dedication. They have already stolen and wasted far too much of his time.
Another thing, which is somewhat trivial but since I am a geek in some ways. One of the RW memes this week is that PBO received 10m fewer votes than last time. Not true. Currently it is 8M fewer and by the time all the votes are counted, probably 7M. Sure, it is being picky, as he still received fewer votes, but then, when you really look at it, specially with the media not calling Romney on his lies, I consider that a damn good performance.
PBO may have also lost up to 800,000 votes due to Sandy. People not able to get to the polls due to the storm. Lots of people made great efforts though even voting in makeshift tents with flashlights.
If Bush can act like he had a mandate when he lost the popular vote in the first election and with 286 EV’s in the second, PBO has a mandate with 332 electoral votes.
So Boehner will end up with less House seats and we’ve increased our numbers in the Senate. What part of ‘mandate’ do they not understand?
That actually happened because of the campaigns strategy to campaign essentially only in the battleground states. In 2008 we had a vigorous primary that had the whole country engaged in the election. Plus it was a historical election. Every state was a possibility. This time it was all about those 9 states with Ohio as the Firewall. We had no primary to gin up support so it I can see how the vote count was down a bit this year.
After four years of steady onslaught and lies, and the GOP deciding to put up their flawed, greedy and dishonest Ken Doll as their standard bearer – they should be ashamed that they could not defeat him. The fact that he only lost 7 million votes from 2008 is a feat worthy of praise, given that he didn’t have steady, consistent and vocal support from his fellow Democrats. It’s an amazing feat. They can dress up that nonsense in 1000 different ways – President Obama is still going to be a two-term President, and that’s the only fact that matters.
Chipsticks, Sorry to bug you again, but now that the campaigning is over, could you try to track down a high res copy of that photo of the woman in the “God Loves Obama” hat from Nov.8, 2012? http://theobamadiary.com/2012/09/08/nope-still-no-enthusiasm/ Please let me know, either way. Thank you.
I hope you saw Jim’s note with the video of President Obama thanking supporters and staff. I wanted to single you out especially because you’ve gone above and beyond in your support of the President.
Over the past year, we faced an unprecedented amount of negative ad spending from our opponents — and the content of those attacks was often misleading, or just flat-out dishonest.
But you got out there and talked to your friends, your family, and your neighbors about what was at stake in this election, and you set the record straight about the President and what he stands for.
We didn’t just win an election — we proved that not even billionaires and super PACs can overwhelm the power of ordinary Americans talking to one another about the values they share. Our politics will be better off because of that.
As Jim said, we’ll be in touch soon about where we take it from here.
Thank you so much for all you’ve done, and all you will continue to do as we move this country forward. This is your victory.
Got all excited when I saw BarackObamaNews (@BarackObama2Day) was following me. Profile looks legit, they’re using campaign graphics, but the TL is full of all the sexual crap from handles like She Wants the D, She Doesn’t Want the D, GuysCodeBook, LoveSexDoctor, WeedTweets, etc. WTH? Can’t be an official Obama-related account. Ugh! A dream deflated! Oh well!
Good news on the last thread…..Mary Bono Mack of California (R) defeated by Dr. Ruiz (D)…that area includes Hemet, a growing area….also, Allen West got shut down in his “suit” against Patrick Murphy, so two more Democrats…..if so many state legislatures had not redrawn lines, we would have had more democrats. How good to have that awful Allen West out of the House!!!
One comment I read was that the American voter is more multi-faceted than the Republicans give them credit for. They actually sifted through arguments and the spin…renewed my faith this election.
Guys, are Messina and Cutter saying that they are staying open to aid PBO garner grassroot support for his initiatives????!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! please say it’s so, please say it’s so!!! OMG, do you know what he could do in the WH and OFA on the ground?!!!! Somebody, please slap me, I’m going into hysterical seizures!!!!
It looks quite likely, Lisa. Yesterday, if you visited http://www.barackobama.com you would find a very different gateway to the site. Give it a try
They are definitely getting ready to ‘write the next chapter’ WITH US
this would be fricking awesome!!! They could keep it open and we could all still donate to cover their expenses!!! —that’s allowed right? There’s nothing wrong with us still donating to OFA to keep it open so that it can be used to push PBO’s initiatives? It would be awesome if OFA peeps could go out in communities and talk about what PBO wants to do in order to get them to pay attention and put pressure on their own members of congress. That would be bloody brilliant!!
OFA continued after the 2008 election. We had a core group that hit the phones every time the President needed our help. For example, if a Democrat wasn’t getting on board with a piece of legislation, we would call people in their district and ask them to contact their office to back the President. Or when there was a special election (like Mark Critz) we were on the phones for that, too.
After 2008 there was such energy waiting to do something else. But I did feel like it slowed down to a point where it was hard to keep people engaged. I haven’t thought through how it might be different this time. Both 2008 and 2012 there was an enormous surge of volunteers as election day got very close. But many of them won’t stay on for the long haul. It will always be the core group that keeps going. What’s cool is that, at least where I live, there was a whole new set of people in 2012 who became the heavy lifters, the real loyalists. I think they’ll be ready to keep going in some capacity.
Good evening all. Am reading thru this thread and this struck me. Now that the election is over and if such a thing comes to pass, I wonder if outsiders can help?
Messina said it very clearly in the phone conference yesterday. He said that OFA will stay open and help Barack push legislations. He said it’s a lesson the learned from the first couple of years.
If that’s the case, I will pledge to contribute monthly to OFA. The President is already facing a hostile media,. It’s up to us to stay actively engaged in supporting the President’s agenda.
They sent out a notice to supporters last week (or was it this week) to click to approve that their monthly donations would now go to Obama Victory Fund, rather than Obama For America. So, if you have a standing donation, make sure you click the approval, so they can continue to deduct. On the http://www.barackobama.com site, they do say how the funds will be distributed. They are still paying off campaign debt (so continue to donate a little, if you’ve got it), and the first $2500 donated will be used to pay that off, then the remaining funds up to $30,800 (per contributor) will be used for the DNC. You can specify if you want your money going to specific candidates, too. Here’s the notice I got about approving the change – not sure if the link will work generally.
“Thank you for being one of this organization’s most valuable supporters. Your regular contribution to Obama for America has helped build a grassroots organization that is unprecedented in American politics.
Right now, the best way for you to support ongoing efforts for the causes we believe in is to transfer your monthly donation — charged to credit card XXXXX — to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint project of the Obama campaign and the Democratic Party.
To be clear: We are not asking you for a new donation today. Your regular contribution will continue to be charged on the same interval it always has been.
By clicking this link, I acknowledge that I am moving my recurring donation from Obama for America to the Obama Victory Fund 2012, a joint fundraising committee between Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee, and State Democratic Parties. I agree that starting on the date of my next scheduled monthly donation, and on a monthly basis thereafter, Obama for America will charge the credit card account I previously provided and in the same amount as my current recurring donation. I give Obama for America permission to transmit the information contained in my initial recurring donation authorization to Obama Victory Fund 2012 and I understand that my monthly donation will continue until it is cancelled, which I can do at any time by calling 312-698-3670.
Yes, I will switch my recurring donation from Obama for America to the Obama Victory Fund today.
Thank you again for everything you’ve done to support this campaign.
With gratitude,
Julianna
Julianna Smoot
Deputy Campaign Manager
Obama for America”
This is excellent information. Hopefully they will stay active and get folks to the polls for the midterm elections. That’s the time that repubs usually get ahead by getting their voters to the polls, but there hasn’t been a great deal of effort to get Democratic voters to the polls during the midterms.
Not only the Prez’ initiatives for his second term, but I think the 2014 mid-term elections as well (in my most humblest of opinions). No way we’re going to have a repeat of 2010 results. OFA’s not gonna allow it. I can just feel it in my bones.
For sure, lisa. I’ve already signed up at barackobama.com and via Jon Carson’s Office of Public Engagement. They are already setting up conference calls for next week. Big wheels turning!!
Am sharing this information because it is now being reported that the FBI is investigating improper access to the General’s email and I assure you that will not go well for him or Ms Broadwell – that’s a very big deal crime if true and he would dealing with much more than the embarrassment of an affair.
“The woman with whom Gen. David Petraeus was having an affair is Paula Broadwell, the author of a recent hagiographic book about him, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.”
The notion that ANYONE other than super-authorized individuals had access to the head of the CIA’s email …
FBI investigating Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell for improperly trying to access his email, officials tell @NBCNews— Breaking News (@BreakingNews) November 09, 2012
I got the impression from the reporting on msnbc that many had noticed the closeness in this relationship which seemed to go beyond biographer and subject——running partners and frequently seen together—and that the FBI investigation was the catalyst to the resignation.
Ugh. what an ignoble way to end a brilliant career. SMH. He was a fool. Regardless of how smart and successful he was, he ultimately succumbed to vanity. What a damned shame. I feel so terrible for his wonderful wife. My best wishes for her.
Wonder how long it’ll be before this is scrubbed from that website … “Over the course of Petraeus’s command of ISAF-Afghanistan from July 2010 through July 2011, Broadwell embedded with the general …”
Talk about a double entendre
Likely someone (I’m looking at you Jon Stewart) already has a screen capture of the site
Her site is now offline. A report about her says she’s married with two children. How awful for all involved. What was she thinking, trying to access the classified email of the CIA director?!
May well be. Fact is if she had any access to his electronics or content of any form, they are both in very serious trouble. The only reason I posted was because anyone thinking his resignation was just some stunt to distract from Benghazi was already certifiably nuts, but even more so if we learn that a national security breach has occurred – which an unauthorized individual accessing the head of the CIA’s email would qualify.
Love it! There was a woman who called into Stephanie Miller’s show this morning, and she said her eight year old grandson doesn’t understand why people can’t see how much President Obama loves this country. When she watched the video of President Obama thanking his campaign staff with him yesterday, he started crying, and he said that he loves President Obama so much. Kids know.
Hey TODers, could someone please tell me how I could find a listing of who the moderate (or close to moderate) Republicans are in Congress? Linda has on her site a great list of all Congresspersons, contact details and identified those being TeaParty but just wondered rather than going into everyone who is not TP’s individual voting record, whether there is a list of who are moderates.
I’m basically going to tweet them individually to try and get them to support the Senate middle-class tax cut bill…..just another approach to go alongside tweeting Boehner.
Ed. note: Tune in to whitehouse.gov/live on Sunday, November 11 at 11:00 am EST to watch the President and First Lady pay tribute at Arlington National Cemetery.
Sunday, November 11 will mark Veterans Day, a time show thanks to the men and women whose service and sacrifice have helped secure more than two centuries of American progress.
Since taking office, President Obama has remained committed to making sure our returning heroes share in the opportunities they have given so much to defend. On Veterans Days past, the President has that “while it is important and proper that we mark this day, it is far more important we spend all our days determined to keep the promises that we’ve made to all who answer this country’s call.”
In 2009, the President spoke at the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery about upholding that sacred trust with our veterans. “Just as the contributions that our servicemen and women make to this nation don’t end when they take off their uniform, neither do our obligations to them,” he said. “And when we fulfill those obligations, we aren’t just keeping faith with our veterans; we are keeping faith with the ideals of service and sacrifice upon which this republic was founded.”
On Veterans Day 2010, speaking to servicemembers, their families, and American and Korean veterans who served in the Korean War from Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul, South Korea, President Obama explained some of the ways his Administration is working to make sure veterans have the care and benefits they need when they return home.
This has been one of my highest priorities since taking office. It’s why I asked for one of the largest increases in the VA budget in the past 30 years. It’s why we’ve dramatically increased funding for veterans’ health care. It’s why we’re improving care for wounded warriors, especially those with Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury. It’s why we’re working to eliminate the backlog at the VA and reforming the entire process with electronic claims and medical records. It’s why there are fewer homeless veterans on the streets than there were two years ago.
That’s why there are nearly 400,000 veterans and their families who are going to college because of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.
On Veterans Day 2011, before watching the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team defeat Michigan State University onboard the USS Carl Vinson in the first-ever Carrier Classic, President Obama discussed the importance of doing right by our veterans by helping them get jobs once they transition back into civilian life.
“What we’ve done is make sure that Congress passed legislation that makes it a little bit easier for businesses to hire our veterans,” he said. “We’ve put in place a series of reforms to help veterans, make sure they get the counseling and the job placement that they need.”
President Obama also highlighted Joining Forces the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden’s initiative to support veterans and military families. To date, more than 2,000 businesses have hired or trained more than 125,000 veterans and military spouses in the past year, and have pledged to hire or train 250,000 veterans and spouses in the coming years.
Here is MSNBC’s crawler: President Obama faces CIA shakeup just days after winning election.
Tells me all I need know. See, it’s ALL ABOUT OBAMA! This whole angle the media is pushing has REPUBLICAN fingerprints all over it – and in a matter of maybe a few weeks, or perhaps months…we shall see who is really behind this. The last few weeks, I’ve been reading about Bengazi on all the right-wing blogs…it’s as though they lived, ate, and slept the Benghazi issue. The MSM didn’t push it, because they expected Romney to win. Now that Romney has lost, the MSM is again operating at the behest of the right-wing to undermine this President just as he’s beginning his 2nd term.
The Republicans just don’t get yet Our President Obama has a new set to his jaw no slack no worry lines and ready for a fight. They are living the old world thinking we got the power and have the winning hand. But they will be sorry because he means what he says they thought he wouldn’t win 4 more years and they were wrong. So you hear them crying now just wait until they see that fiscal cliff coming nearer they will fold.Just keep the faith.
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will welcome Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick to the White House on Friday night for a private dinner, a White House aide confirms. The closed-press affair was not listed on the President’s official daily schedule, but it was noted on Patrick’s. Now in his second term, Patrick, 56, served as a national co-chair for the President’s reelection campaign. (Above: The President and Patrick at a fundraiser in Massachusetts)
The President issued the dinner invitation on Thursday night during a phone call, Patrick told the Boston Globe today.
“It’s a social dinner. It’s a small group, but I don’t know all the people who are going to be there,” Patrick said.
“We were told to come informal, and we were asked if steak was okay,” Patrick said, adding “it’ll be fun.”
According to the latest scuttle around DC, Patrick is being considered as a possible replacement in the second Administration if Attorney General Eric Holder steps down. But Patrick has said he will serve out his term, which ends in 2015.
Patrick’s wife, Diane Patrick, a lawyer specializing in labor law, will accompany her husband to the President’s dinner. The couple last joined the President and Mrs. Obama for a private dinner in August of 2011 on Martha’s Vineyard, during the Obamas’ annual summer vacation in Massachusetts. They dined at State Road restaurant, at a closed-press affair also attended by Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett and Vernon Jordan.
Patrick’s official schedule for Friday reads: “After breaking ground for the Fore River Bridge on the Quincy/Weymouth line this afternoon, Governor Patrick will fly to D.C. with Mrs. Patrick to have a social dinner tonight with the President at the White House.”
In 2008 during the transition period, Patrick was also ostensibly in the running to be a member of President Obama’s Cabinet, as Health and Human Services Secretary. But the Governor at the time quashed the rumors, saying he was focused on leading Massachusetts.
President Obama on Friday received the Presidential Daily Briefing in the morning, and later met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office, joined by Vice President Joe Biden. At 1:05 PM, the President made his first post-election remarks, addressing the nation from the East Room to discuss the economy.
I wonder if Ed “Cheshire Cat” Henry will badger Jay Carney at the briefing next week about why he wasn’t invited to the dinner. Seriously, why isn’t the media being invited to record the dinner. Or maybe Jake “The Snarl” Tapper will demand a tick tock of who was there and exactly what they talked about. After all, the American people have a right to know there’s nothing nefarious going on in the White House. Right?? These gossip columnists masquerading as real journalists are a disgrace to their profession.
If I hear the word ‘Benghazi’ again…….. when PBO got re-elected, my friend and I were so elated, then she stopped laughing and cheering, turned to me and said: “Well, they couldn’t drive him out of office, so be prepared for impeachment and her name is Benghazi.” I was so pissed off, mostly because I wouldn’t be surprised. Look what they did to Holder. Fuckers.
” Friday morning, Barack Obama had a vote total well in excess of 61 million, as compared with Mitt Romney’s 58 million. The president’s popular-vote margin is now in excess of 3 million.[...]
1. Barack Obama will have won an overwhelming majority in the Electoral College, a daunting majority of the popular vote and a majority of the nation’s states—including most of the country’s largest states and states in every major region of the republic: New England, the mid-Atlantic, the Great Lakes, the South, the Southwest, the Mountain West and the West.
2. Barack Obama will have won more popular votes than any Democratic candidate for president in history—except Barack Obama in 2008.
3. Barack Obama is the first Democratic president to win more than 50 percent of the popular vote in a re-election run since Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1944.
4. Barack Obama is the only Democratic candidate for president since FDR to twice win more than 50 percent of the national vote.
5. Barack Obama has, in both of his presidential runs, won a higher percentage of the national vote than any Democratic nominee since Lyndon Johnson in his 1964 landslide victory.”
Dear @Messina2012 the enormity of President Obama's electoral victory bit.ly/PKrzuc is stunning. Let's be sure every American knows!— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) November 09, 2012
An impressive list and victory! To me one of the most telling stats was that the 10 most educated states with the highest paid teachers were all Obama states. And 9 out of 10 of the least educated with the lowest paid teachers were Romney states. Nevada was in the last group and won by Obama.
The GOP has won the popular vote ONLY once since 1988. If Tuesday wasn't a wake up call for the party, that fact alone should be.— Abby Huntsman (@HuntsmanAbby) November 09, 2012
I like her. She seemed genuinely pleased with Obama’s re-election. Well spoken, has sense and sensibility. Left the Mormon church when they told her she couldn’t love whom she loved, a boyfriend at the time, now her husband, a non-Mormon.
That would be really serious. As it stands, just the fact of the affair lends itself to the possibility of a serious national security breach. Read that the military considers it so serious, a court martial results.
There was an ongoing investigation into possible breaks in security regarding Petraeus’ email and that’s when they discovered the affair. So he was busted by the FBI.
On the one hand, I want to laugh because it’s yet another dude in power who couldn’t keep his freaking penis in his pants. On the other hand, it’s a bloody serious issue because he’s the freaking CIA director privy to all sorts of classified information and he was dicking around and left himself and the security of the nation wide open.
Will there be a split in the Republican Party…and what would that mean….ever since the Dixiecrats defected to the Republican party over Civil Rights being added to the platform of the Democratic party…..we have had to deal with their racist…phobias and ideology…it is just their brand…it is who they are….add homophobia and anti women …anti worker………i do not see that changing EVER….and now these same forces have brought ..Affirmative Action and the Voting Rights act to the Supreme Court…
We will Always have to defend what our rights…..Always stay UNITED to Move our Country Forward>>>>>>>>
Next week: Pres Obama holds news conference Wednesday; visits NYC area storm victims Thursday; meets with Congressional Leaders on Friday.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) November 10, 2012
I’m not looking forward to the displays of stupidity at the Wednesday news conference. Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi. Not one question will be asked about the foreign trip that starts on Nov 17!
“The chances are good, but not guaranteed, that Elizabeth Warren will secure a highly coveted seat on the Senate Banking Committee, a move that would dramatically elevate her campaign against Wall Street excess.
Senior Senate Democratic aides, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Massachusetts senator-elect is a logical fit for the committee, even though it is rare for a freshman senator to get such a plum assignment.
If she gets the slot, Warren’s bully pulpit would be replaced with real power.
The bipartisan panel can greatly influence policy decisions through its oversight of financial services, international trade, insurance, housing, securities and economic issues.”
I hope people give Elizabeth Warren a chance to find her legs, develop allies and achieve a few things. The pressure and expectations are just too much. She’s one Senator among 100, and if people don’t set realistic expectations, the next thing we’ll hear is how “disappointed” people are that she’s not achieving miracles, such as nationalization of the banks, etc. People seem to do this every single time. She needs time. I hope Al Franken takes her under his wing – he’s done a good job creating space for himself to actually learn the business of “Senator-ing” and slowly build up credibility, etc. She needs to be in the Senate for the long term, where she can do a lot of good.
President Obama’s victory over Mitt Romney is a study in the demographics of a rapidly changing 21st-century America. For the Republican Party to survive, its smarter dinosaurs need to wake up to the realization that their rapidly accelerating extinction is significantly tied to the fact that a political party held hostage by right-wing lunatics and catering to the self-centered needs of privileged white men cannot compete in an increasingly diverse America – or one that chooses to remain sane.
I wanted to say thank you for your support and enthusiasm.
Republicans had promised to make double-digit gains. Instead, we picked up at least 7 seats and were able to roll back the Tea Party wave.
Next week we will welcome a new Democratic Caucus where — for the first time in Congressional history — the majority will be women and minorities. We expect to have 61 women, 43 African Americans, 27 Hispanics, 10 Asian Americans and 6 LGBT Americans in our Caucus.
Our larger, more diverse Caucus — at least 200 Members strong — will play a greater role in support of President Obama and our colleagues in the Senate. We pledge to work alongside the President and stand ready to work across the aisle to move our nation forward and address the American people’s top priorities: creating jobs, growing the economy, strengthening the middle class and protecting Medicare.
We remain focused on reigniting the American Dream, building ladders of opportunity for anyone willing to work hard, take responsibility and play by the rules.
I cannot thank you enough for your efforts that ensured our success, enabling us to outrecruit, outraise and outmoblize House Republicans. Because of our work together, we elected talented, dynamic and diverse Democratic candidates and helped protect incumbents in tough races.
LMAO! Someone with major time on their hands decided to write this piece analyzing the photograph that PBO tweeted on election night of him and FLOTUS hugging.
TITLE: Critic’s Notebook: Obama photo is a snapshot of a modern, equal marriage
// Who is embracing whom in that photograph of the Obamas that went viral on election night? The photograph, shot from below and isolating the first couple against a cloudy sky, shows the president embracing his wife at a campaign rally in August. The first lady is seen from behind, enclosed in the arms of the president, whose eyes are closed. Sent from the president’s Twitter account Tuesday night shortly after news networks declared him the winner, the photograph was immediately retweeted hundreds of thousands of times, making it the most popular image in Twitter history and propelling it to instant love across a host of social-networking programs. //
Not sure I like this article. It seems full of nonsense. It describes Michelle Obama as a “big woman”. It talks about people being enamored with the Obama family as “cultish”. And then it implies that the picture is a politically staged illusion, typical of most politicians praising their wives, like Romney did in his concession speech. Please… We can all see with our own eyes, and this guy’s analysis is severely lacking.
Just got off the phone w/ President @BarackObama. He called to ask me to thank everyone in Maryland who helped make his victory possible.— Martin O'Malley (@GovernorOMalley) November 09, 2012
Donna – Why do I think that if that cute Gov. O’Malley sent out a tweet saying “I had soup for lunch,” you’d still write “Yah Marylanders!!!” (Kidding aside, cutie pie is definitely going places!)
terrific chart in there–best educated states all went for pbo, worst for robmey except nevada which was smart enough to vote for pob even with less education.
Unless the WH knew and we just aren’t aware of it.
Incidentally, I went on Paula Broadwell’s Twitter account, and checked out not only her tweets, but the people she followed. She seems to be of Republican lean – even though there is nothing explicit in any of her tweets, but her media contacts lead me to believe that there is a lot more RW media involvement with this story than we know….
I’ve seen reports that the WH was not informed of all this until Wednesday. And that this was an open secret within the press. But who knows about what the jackals have to say since they’re all so inbred and screwed up.

Just missed again
Congrats all. Just off the local newspaper here in Palm Beach FL. Doesn’t look like things will be settled until tomorrow. Evidently ballot count from Absentee and Provisional must end by tomorrow by noon!
Proud – You may have been one of them, but did you see where scads of Floridians have been emailing Scott about the voting problems? How fast can he be kicked out of office?
Never should have been elected but, this is what happens when democrats stay home! There is no one else to blame but those who did sit home.
Exactly!
First??
Damn! Lol!
Close though! That’s something!
Well look at me in the top 5
Lookin’ good!
I remember that as well. Absolutely useless.
I would be thrilled to donate to her campaign! Yes. I. Would!
meta – It would be so, so funny if a “celebrity” (albeit a smart, activist, credentialed one) beat out The Turtle.
Yes, I know that. Boehner isn’t someone I trust to get it done.
“They have already stolen and wasted far too much of his time”. <<<<<—- This!
Yay, a new thread! The last one was getting weighed down by talking head regurgitation. Phew!
Soooo good to see my President today, right back where he belongs.
Such a logical approach. Why the heck is it so difficult?!?
Grover Norquist. All of the republicans are afraid of him because he told them that if they raised taxes for any reason, they would be primaried.
and they’d burn in rethug hell for all eternity.
Who the f**k elected Grover Norquist to dictate to members of Congress? Members of Congress who do as he says are pathetic
A very good point.
FDR went down in popular vote with each election.
Thank you!!
the part where they have to do something different now. honestly, they are still stuck in the bargaining stage of grief. next up: anger!
True enough
Thank you.
Hi Greg, I replied to you in early October with the details, you must have missed it!
The photo is by Larry Downing of Reuters, so if you contact him/them through their website you might be able to get a hi-res version.

Email from our girl Stephanie Cutter today –
Friend —
Stephanie
They sure let us know we are special, and how much difference we make. Gotta love that!
this excited me:
As Jim said, we’ll be in touch soon about where we take it from here.
I hope they will use the framework that they’ve built (ie. us)

White House: Obama will veto any bill extending tax cuts for those making more than $250K
http://www.salon.com/2012/11/09/white_house_obama_will_veto_any_bill_extending_tax_cuts_for_those_making_more_than_250k/
Clear enough …
Crystal!
My President is extremely intelligent.
He’s got all that book lurnin’ and nerd juice in him!
Exactly what I want for both of my daughters and some looks thrown in for good measure.
Oh well!
Must there be pervs everywhere you go on the web?
Legit accounts involving politicians usually have a lil’ blue checkmark.
They are definitely getting ready to ‘write the next chapter’ WITH US
#FORWARD
this would be fricking awesome!!!
What I would guess is that OFA becomes the mother of all Super PACs.
Now that the election is over and if such a thing comes to pass, I wonder if outsiders can help?
scratch that. I’ll email and find out.
Yes, Theo I did get that e-mail and will follow through.
Forwardddddddddddd>>>>>>>>
no kidding. I’ve been staying away. I’m going to go take a look.
This is excellent information. Hopefully they will stay active and get folks to the polls for the midterm elections. That’s the time that repubs usually get ahead by getting their voters to the polls, but there hasn’t been a great deal of effort to get Democratic voters to the polls during the midterms.
THIS!!!!
Not only the Prez’ initiatives for his second term, but I think the 2014 mid-term elections as well (in my most humblest of opinions). No way we’re going to have a repeat of 2010 results. OFA’s not gonna allow it. I can just feel it in my bones.
yessssssssssss……
For sure, lisa. I’ve already signed up at barackobama.com and via Jon Carson’s Office of Public Engagement. They are already setting up conference calls for next week. Big wheels turning!!
Dashboard is gone. If you go to dashboard.barackobama.com, it’s just a stub page…
Sorry … here’s the link …
I got the impression from the reporting on msnbc that many had noticed the closeness in this relationship which seemed to go beyond biographer and subject——running partners and frequently seen together—and that the FBI investigation was the catalyst to the resignation.
Here is Broadwell’s website promoting her Petraeus book, said she was afforded extensive access to the general, uh huh.
http://www.paulabroadwell.com/
i wonder if that’s who he had the affair with. she’s very pretty and young.
Oh, yes Lisa, it’s definitely the person with whom he was having the affair. That’s not a rumor; it’s fact.
Ugh. what an ignoble way to end a brilliant career. SMH. He was a fool. Regardless of how smart and successful he was, he ultimately succumbed to vanity. What a damned shame. I feel so terrible for his wonderful wife. My best wishes for her.
I know, LLO. Another one. Damn. SMH [sigh!]
or as my husband put it, another guy following his penis into disaster.
Wonder how long it’ll be before this is scrubbed from that website … “Over the course of Petraeus’s command of ISAF-Afghanistan from July 2010 through July 2011, Broadwell embedded with the general …”
Talk about a double entendre
Likely someone (I’m looking at you Jon Stewart) already has a screen capture of the site
hahahahhahahhahhahahhahahahhahahahahaha!!!
Jon Stewart or Colbert:)
LOL!

WHOA.
done
did it and wrote this in the comment section: “and get the aspca to save that poor fox on the top of his head!”
“She always says that Obama is the president and that Mitt Romney is a bad guy who just wants money and wants to be the president.”
Unfortunately, there are no moderate Republicans in congress. At least not while Barack Obama is President. Check back in 2017!
Okay Jokes aside, here’s a good way to tell who is possibly “moderate.” Some of them may no longer be in congress after being voted out in 2010.
1. Voted for DADT repeal
http://www.aolnews.com/2010/12/18/eight-republicans-vote-to-repeal-dont-ask-dont-tell/
2. Voted for the Stimulus in 2009
http://www.rinolist.org/2010/08/list-of-republicans-who-voted-for-obamas-stimulus/
3. Voted to confirm Justices Sotomayor/Kagan

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2010/08/supreme-court-justice-elena-kagan-confirmed-by-senate/1
And here are the house Repubs who
1. voted to repeal DADT
http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/the-15-house-republicans-yes-republicans-who-voted-to-repeal-dont-ask-dont-tell/dont-ask-dont-tell/2010/12/15/16221
No house Repubs voted for Stimulus. No House Repubs voted for HCR.
Thanks hopefruit – this is useful.
From the Archives: President Obama Marks Veterans Day
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/11/09/archives-president-obama-marks-veterans-day
Ed. note: Tune in to whitehouse.gov/live on Sunday, November 11 at 11:00 am EST to watch the President and First Lady pay tribute at Arlington National Cemetery.
Just have to Post this video again incase somebody missed the last thread, THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!! GO SEE LINCONLN B/C OF DDL

President Obama to Host MA Gov Deval Patrick at WH for Friday Dinner
http://obamafoodorama.blogspot.com/2012/11/president-obama-to-host-gov-deval.html
Fuckers.
PBO will manage that. Let’s take direction from what PBO is doing, it’s getting Congress majority to support Senate middle-class tax bill.
do you know the official name of the Senate middle class tax bill?
Hi, I think it is on http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s3412
THANKSSSSSS
Yep, that’s it, Berny!!
S. 3412: Middle Class Tax Cut Act

Wooooooot! Yeh baby!
Well, dear friends, we were all pushing for #OutPerform1936 and in many ways our President Obama exceeded that objective ….
Yes Bobfr! And I believe your fearless and relentless tweets and well reasoned commentaries played a role in this historic victory.
That’s very kind of you nath. If it helped get even 1 additional vote, that would be worth all the effort, for sure!
#FORWARD
blah, blah, blah. mandate, mandate, mandate. If I hear Nichols and Ed use that word one more time.
An impressive list and victory! To me one of the most telling stats was that the 10 most educated states with the highest paid teachers were all Obama states. And 9 out of 10 of the least educated with the lowest paid teachers were Romney states. Nevada was in the last group and won by Obama.
Excellent. Make it plain!
True
Like clockwork Abby Huntsman is on with Rev. Al now.
I like her. She seemed genuinely pleased with Obama’s re-election. Well spoken, has sense and sensibility. Left the Mormon church when they told her she couldn’t love whom she loved, a boyfriend at the time, now her husband, a non-Mormon.
Yep. I call her the anti-Megan McCain. Megan tries so hard but has an awful time putting together coherent sentences.
I suspect we will see Abby running for Congress before too long …
Yep, I like her. Hope fully she will run as a Democrat
I was just thinking that she might need to run for Congress. It sounds like she’s got a good head on her shoulders.
Interesting read at Smartypants about the GOP and shell shock. Pay particular attention to the excellent comments: http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2012/11/shellshocked-by-truthiness.html Commenter Bill recaps a great term from Frum uttered on Morning Joe: Conservative Entertainment Complex

WiW…can you please add these to the contact lists? Thank you!!
Got it – thanks
What if Petreas biographer was the one leaking all this shit, unbeknown to Petreas?
I think she was just a bit too busy writing her great american biography.
That would be really serious. As it stands, just the fact of the affair lends itself to the possibility of a serious national security breach. Read that the military considers it so serious, a court martial results.
That’s quite possible – she apparently frequented FOX NEWS a lot. As I stated earlier, – this story has Republican fingerprints all over it.
Rev Al showing the repukes going through the 5 stages of grief. hahahhahhaha!!!
Yeah, it’s just incredibly stupid and I’m having a hard believing the stories that PBO wanted him to stay regardless. Just doesn’t compute.
Has it been revealed who the mistress is (was)?
Bob posted her name and website upthread.
FENKS!

We will Always have to defend what our rights…..Always stay UNITED to Move our Country Forward>>>>>>>>
yeah, the democratic party, the republican party and the pizza party! you know he wants us to think it!
These right wingers don’t understand the meaning of “freedom”.
check it out, hopefully this is the one PBO mentioned re: Senate passing for middle-class tax cut. Love the ‘take action’ page on the site

I’m not looking forward to the displays of stupidity at the Wednesday news conference. Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi. Not one question will be asked about the foreign trip that starts on Nov 17!
Wall Street gadfly Warren stands good chance of Senate banking seat
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/09/us-usa-senate-warren-banking-idUSBRE8A804R20121109
——————
————-
Ooooohhhhh yeahhhhh!!
Americans rejected lunacy on Tuesday
{Snip}

From Nancy Pelosi…..in an email
Thank you again for your tremendous support.
Nancy
This is really stunning progress!!
YESSSSSSS
Nancy Smash is still Speaker-for-Life Pelosi, to me. Love her.

This dude has too much time on his hands.
I’m going to share this with my Family and Intimate Relationships class. It touches on many sociological concepts and dynamics.
Awww … Would love to hear some of the discussions!
:eyeroll:
Thought that might make you smile a bit.
Delicious.
Yah Marylanders!!!!
YAY!!!!!!! thanks so much Maryland! Y’all were just wonderful! Thanks Donna!!!
I’m seeing on twitter that the investigation of Petraeus’ email account began last spring. If so, why wasn’t the WH informed? Strange.
I don’t believe anything coming from either the mainstream or RW media on this story.
Nobody’s takin’ my Twinkie. Just sayin’.
Better bribe somebody for the recipe quick.

Yes
good.
Yes, he said he would have the last Friday episode tonight.
what makes him so special that he can’t work friday nights like everyone else? Grrr!!!
Well, I guess on Friday nights, he goes to his second and probably more interesting job: Tamron Hall.
Hahahaha!
makes sense. Why would he want to spend Friday nights at ten with a bunch of strangers when he could chill with his girl?
