12:30 ET: Briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney
White House live
Oooh, it’s hard to guess what the jackals’ obsession will be today
YEAH!!!YEAH!!YEAH!!! I wasn’t going to ask, but I sure wanted one!!! Thanks, I LOVE IT!!!
Yes you, congrats. Gonna watch Carney eat the jackals.
Congrats Robin, just missed again
Yes. I will be watching…..Thanks Chips.
Oy……Jay is going to be bombarded and likewise Pres. Obama tomorrow because you know….there are no other pressing matters.
I find the whole thing hilariously bizarre. The only time I will take it seriously is if it comes out that national security secrets were leaked. Until then…..hahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaha.
Jay can handle the jackals… he will be brilliant. He will have FACTS on his side!
You’re right, Jay can handle the jackasses and so can President Obama.
Facts?!?! lol…….good god man!……..are you mad?!?!……..these people don’t believe in facts!
Fact is: WE WON!
Good morning, all!
Yes, Jay can handle those jackals. I just hope Jay can answer the burning question of the day. Why did the Lakers go with D’Antoni and not Jackson?
  The burniest question!!!
Or the second:
How many generals does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Maybe President Obama will announce a Christmas vacation or something, so the jackals will get on with their burnier questions.
No no. It would be “Why did Justin and Selena” break up?
Oh wait, is it ‘burniest’ or ‘burningest’ , enquiring minds want to KNOW!
Why did the Lakers fire Mike Brown? I guess that is the guy’s name.
Oh my. Denver TV Station mistakenly uses NSFW photoshopped title of Paula Broadwell's Petraeus bio. gawker.com/5960129/accord… cc: @lolgop— Edwina (@NJedwina) November 13, 2012
I know that this is supposed to be a serious scandal but there are so many absurd twists and turns it’s turning out to be one of the funniest scandals ever.
Only serious if you take Lifetime Movie Network seriously.
Saw a funny tweet that I can’t find now: “Housewives of Kandahar”
I’m still waiting for someone to throw in “leading from behind.” What, too soon?
:) No, your comedic timing is about right (assuming this is just a comedy plot not something of real import).
can you work a pineapple into that image?
Yes UT, it’s crazy….so close to not being a story until the FBI with the political agenda got involved. Just another example of people screwing up their personal lives.
Hard to find the real news with this story out there…
This little episode just feels like a groupie/prosti situation. Just why more than one General is involved. They let a little girl play who got too involved with the game. Hey we gon kick around and we all married so that way nobody gets hurt. Who knows what kind of little club meetings they were having. We will soon find out. It always comes out.

I imagine the GOPKKKer STINK BOMB will be on the briefing memo today. I think it is very important to listen carefully to media questions. The media is going to pretend like they do not know what’s going on because you know the public is so stupid and so devoid of memory, they will be unable to connect the dots. The media will ask basic questions to help frame the narrative they want us to believe. All I can say is President BARACK OBAMA will go down in history as the smartest, most ethical, most strategic politician ever to hold the Office of President of the United States.
I feel sorry for the next white President.
I won’t. When your ticket gets punched you gotta ride!
The jackals are just surrogates for the Republican Party. They are unable to formulate intelligent and relevant questions on their own. We all know that the root of every question from the jackals will be some GOP talking point, criticism or negative meme about President Obama. It would really be more honest if the jackals were sent packing from the briefing room and we let Boehner, Cantor and MicConnell ask the questions of Press Secretary Jay ‘Clalrk Kent’ Carney. It would be more efficient and would eliminate at least one unnecessary layer of complexity.
If I were in the WH Press corps:
Gen. Allen allegedly sent 20,000-30,000 “inappropriate emails.” Sir my question is do we know if these emails were shirted or shirtless? Has the General ever heard of texting? We’re the emails one word each? If so, what was that inappropriate word? But most importantly,
How in the hell did he have time to do anything else but send emails? TMZ and I await your answers.
When it comes to a woman’s treasure, mountains can be moved, galaxies can be conquered, and 30, 000 emails can be sent. For a man on a mission, the end result is all that matters.
I couldn’t have written that any better, Don. Ha!
That’s funny, but so true.
C-SPAN.org/live is streamlining the Carney express with the goofy WHCP.
If the WHCP are good Journos. why are they Not interested in AZ and the vote counts there?
Wednesday is the last day for 300K to come back and reaffirm who they are.
A commentor over a BJ made a good point. If someone thought there vote might count, they would probably make more of an effort to go validate their provisional ballot. But if the races have already been called, they are less likely to do so. There should probably have been a major effort to make sure people that voted with a provisional ballot went in and showed their ID. PBO would still have lost in all likelihood, but Carmona would probably ahve won.
Desertflower can probably give a better picture of whether or not that effort was made.

MSNBC has a new kick ass ad with Rachel Maddow’s take on the election and it is quite awesome. It’s that video of her that went viral where she lists all the things we gained and didn’t lose because Pres. Obama was reelected but the ad just uses her voice and powerful images of people of various races, genders, and ages.
I saw that ad last night. I was impressed with her “speech” on election night, and I was impressed with the ad. I usually like to look at the situation positively, but the nation (and the world) really dodged a bullet there. It’s important to remember what the alternative was under the charlatan – and that voters made a conscious decision not to get any of that.

Oh. God. No!
I just can’t stand Bono, Anita – while loving U2 at the same time! I always had my doubts about his sincerity, to be honest, but when he moved the U2 organisation out of Ireland to avoid paying tax there, I decided him and me were done. I’m sure he’s coping, though! He’s just the head of a tax-avoiding corporation now, and a hypocrite.
From Jay Carney…..Bono, sorry Chips, I like him and his Band is my fave……Bono didn’t meet with the pres today. I have just watching the WHCP with Jay.
Got it. That’s a pretty good reason.
I completely agree Chip…
He is quite the master opportunist…
Rather disappointing especially since I once thought well of him…
This Dave Nakamura has the best updates! :)
Good Morning Everyone
It has taken me a week to catch up on work, sleep, and savor all the photos, cartoons, links, twitter posts and comments found at this wonderful blog.
It is so good to be back, so glad OFA will stay active, and so grateful for all the support this blog provides.
I have a post at whatisworking describing some of the challenges and triumphs our OFA team faced this past month. (hint – mentioned the Obama Diary many times – this place is just amazing)
Whatever it Takes :: How the Santa Rosa OFA Helped Re-elect President Obama
Thank you WiW, that was an informative read. You and your team showed persistence; I am so thankful that in the face of unprecedented lies and millions of opposition dollars and difficulties here and there, so many Americans rolled up their sleeves and worked hard to make the world a better place in 2012. #FORWARD with Pres Obama, VP Biden and their administration.

Didn’t take long to get on the scandal. Vultures!
Jay is so good! I would tell them to go fly a kite :-) MSM is a joke!
Carney, go ask the FBI, PBO has work to do. Yup, jackals trying to get a scoop. Too bad not from this source, not even about Amb Rice.
One would think that all of the nation’s issues are A-OK; so much time on this crap. hey MSM, how about New jersey, or Rockaway, New York, all the people still without power. it is quite cold. It of great national consequence to get these sorted out.

Love them Melanie! Thank you!
Chips I expect that you will make full use of these on this forum!!
I’m partial to #13! :)
These were hilarious!
I thought we all needed a lil fix until we get to see our man in the flesh tomorrow. Does anyone know what time the presser is?
I love #44. Playful in a very sexy way. Please forgive me Lord. I know it is not polite to use such words in reference to the President but I just couldn’t think of better words. Amen.
That was AWESOME! I read somewhere that, in the best adults (that are male), you can see the boy-in-the-man and the man-in-the-boy. PBO is so smart, mature, handsome and grounded but you can still see the curiosity, openness, mischief and fun he kept from boyhood.
WE ARE SOOOOO LUCKY!
This is an exercise in patience! G-d bless Jay Carney – I don’t know how he does this!
Simple…..It comes from the TOP……No drama Obama, just saying.
Jay Carney is as patient as Job…..from the Good Book.
Ole Chuckie with his gotcha questions is ready to pounce. :-(
Somebody told him that constantly cutting of the person you’re asking the question makes you sound like a real journalist. Give it up Chuck.
Our White House Press corps is so very bad at their job! We have so much going on in this country that is far more newsworthy and important for our citizens than the whole Petreus episode but they just cannot put any of their focus on anything else. They really are a worthless bunch. Maybe they should just let random high school students in instead. I bet the quality of the questions would soar.
Jay Carney is ten seconds away from stabbing himself or the press corps in the eye. He’s basically told them: No one in the white house dipped trou. You want to talk about that? Go talk to the FBI and for crying out loud, leave me alone.
Carney is also trending on twitter which is sad because it takes a sex scandal for millions of Americans to finally pay attention to how government works.
I find it amusing that the press crops expects Jay to tell them what personnel changes Pres. Obama will make regarding SoS and SoD. It’s like…really. Really?
This is what is wrong with the press. Carney has to repeat over and over again that Pres. Obama will veto any bill that doesn’t raise taxes on the wealthy. How hard is that to grasp?
what is the time line again…….. man I would have gone ape by now!!!

Never mind that the Chicago Metro area has more people than the whole state of WI. A vast majority of those red counties are filled with large dairy farms our Indian Reservations. Most of WI citizens reside in the blue counties including the one where Ryan lives.
I’m sick of this ridiculous b.s. We hear how Romney ‘ran up his total’ in red states, but no one ever talks about how well PBO performed in blue states: overwhelming majorities, bigger than DimMitt’s, and where actual voters actually live.
Now they are on about political fallout of General P. Jay, The general served his country not a political party!!!!!
When one has Truth and Facts, backed with data……..one is very calm.
So is jay Carney.
So is pres Obama.

What I would love Carney to say to the press” i know you are all here to ask about the thousands of Americans that were effected by Sandy, how they are doing and how the states affected are coping” and “How are we as a country going to get this economy going again and avoid the fiscal cliff that could affect millions of Americans”..those are the questions responsible journalists would be asking, instead the press is nothing more than an extension of the tabloids. Sex sells. Hate them.
Amk? Are you still around?
Happy Diwali. Pres had that recognized too. HP….I know, has a piece on that.
The GOP is taking such a douche bag stance on medicare, SS and Medicaid, because the left says absolutely not and, what they really want is to eat into Obamacare subsidies for the poor.
They hope that is the compromise, afterall, they promised their base to get rid of Obamacare and will continue trying.
Just an observation.
They will try. But they will not win. Once bitten twice shy…..we were taught. But not these TBGOPers…….Elephants don’t forget…..but GOPers will Never give up. They will be at it for ever. But guess what, their rightwing media echo chamber is weaning. That is a great thing.
This is not about the GOP. This is about PBO. He’s got a very strong mandate, it’s his second term, he holds all the cards and there’s no reason to compromise with these people. For them, compromise is accepting what they want. Either they came back to reality, or we can all jump of the cliff. It’ll only do us all good.

Norquist’s influence wanes
By Steve Benen
It’s important to realize that Norquist having fewer friends is not necessarily a sign of Republican moderation. In other words, this is not a situation in which candidates are balking at “the pledge” because they’re rethinking their party’s anti-tax orthodoxy. From a progressive perspective, that’d be great, but it’s not what’s happening.
Rather, Norquist has been snubbed in part because some lawmakers are open to trading away tax credits, some don’t like taking orders from D.C. lobbying groups, and some are just anti-pledge in general.
Whatever the motivation, the more policymakers reject Norquist’s artificial, arbitrary constraints, the greater the likelihood of constructive work in Washington.
Also, the Senate to take up Jon Tester Bill, the Sportsman Act.

Several civic and labor leaders emerged from the West Wing after meeting with President Obama Tuesday and said they pressed him not to back down in fiscal cliff negotiations and pledged their support.
“What I talked about was on the taxes, that we need to look at both the revenue and the cuts,” said Dennis Van Roekel, president of the National Education Association. “The tax cuts for the very wealthy — the top 2 percent — Anyone who thinks we can take some or part of that $800 billion off the table and still find a way forward isn’t doing the math.”
Van Roekel said he was “absolutely” encouraged by the president’s response.
AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka also said he believes the president won’t back down on raising taxes
“We’re prepared to stand up for America. I think that’s what the president’s going to do,” Trumka said. “We’re prepared to stand up to make sure that there is shared sacrifice and the rich actually start paying their fair share and the middle class don’t get soaked.”
Both Trumka and AFSCME president Lee Saunders said they planned to put pressure on Republicans during negotiations.
“We’re going to have our folks engaged, just like they were in the election, they’re going to be engaged in this campaign,” Saunders said. “We’re going to keep the pressure on.”
Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, said, “Everyone in the room talked about how much they have the president’s back in this fight. And, you know, he said what he said on Friday, which is that this election was about the middle class and fairness. And he, you know, he intends to represent Americans’ voices in these ongoing debates.”
My favorite line: “Everyone in the room talked about how much they have the president’s back in this fight.”
About damn time “everyone” does!
Dear @PressSec am begging you. Pleased find some real journalists to occupy the front two rows at the WHPC daily conference & ask questions?— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) November 13, 2012
Let’s start a petition on Whitehouse.gov to ask they replace WHPC with real journalist.
Ed Kilgore tells it to Ryan:
“But to an old cracker like me, the Dairy State Randian’s words had a very different connotation. Back in the 1960s, when southern African-Americans could (in some places, and to some degree) vote but segregationists were still in the saddle, any seggie setback was invariably blamed on “The Bloc Vote,” or “The Negro Bloc Vote” (a less inhibited term was, of course, used privately). The idea was that an election properly settled by white people talking about policy options was being hijacked by the hordes of Others who blindly voted for whoever their political bosses told them to vote for.
Now I am not, repeat not, accusing Paul Ryan of being a segregationist or a racist. But this habit of thinking of “the urban vote” as being a policy-indifferent mob that is simply turned out to neutralize the “big choices” being made by civic-minded folk, making the election results meaningless in terms of the direction of the country, certainly bears the pungent whisky-and-brimstone aroma of Old Dixie politics. Ryan would be well advised not to use this sort of terminology to support the no-mandate-election spin of his party.”
The President’s Diwali message:
“Today, here at home and across the globe, Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists will celebrate the holiday of Diwali – the festival of lights. Diwali is a time for gathering with family and friends, often marked with good food and dancing. It is also a time for prayer and reflection about those less fortunate. It is a testament to the compassion of these communities that so many of them have helped those that have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Many who observe this holiday will light the Diya, or lamp, which symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. As that lamp is lit, we should all recommit ourselves to bring light to any place still facing darkness. Earlier this year, we were reminded of the evil that exists in the world when a gunman walked into the Sikh gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and opened fire. In the wake of that horrible tragedy, we saw the resilience of a community that drew strength from their faith and a sense of solidarity with their neighbors, Sikh and non-Sikh alike. We also saw compassion and love, in the heroic actions of the first responders and the outpouring of support from people across the country. Out of a day of sadness, we were reminded that the beauty of America remains our diversity, and our right to religious freedom.
To those celebrating Diwali, I wish you, your families and loved ones Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak.”
After Getting His Ass Kicked By Obama, Paul Ryan Tries to Boss Around Barack
By: Jason Easley
Paul Ryan got clobbered by Obama across the country. He and his ideas couldn’t carry his home state. Ryan even lost in his own hometown. Yet, Rep. Ryan believes his in a position to tell the president what to do.
Rep. Ryan doesn’t seem to understand that has zero leverage here. He didn’t lose a push up contest. He and his ideas were on the ballot, and were soundly defeated by the American people. Paul Ryan wants to pretend that he wasn’t damaged by the sinking of the USS Romney, but he has the captain’s right hand man as the ship went down.
The myth of policy wonk Paul Ryan was widely debunked. Ryan was revealed to be a numbers guy who doesn’t have any numbers. Outside of Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan is the last person on earth who should even be attempting to tell Obama what to do
So, explain this to me.
Allstate owns Esurance. Allstate wants to charge me $999 for six months to insure our two cars. Esurance—which, again, is owned by Allstate—will give me the same coverage for $756 for six months. Am I missing something here? *confused head scratching*
And I finally read up on the whole Petraeus / Kelly contretemps, and man, all parties concerned, male and female, needed to keep it in their pants.
My best guess is that Esurance has much less overhead than Allstate. I am pretty sure they work off two different operating budgets,

Lee Atwater, the GOP guru on post election racist messaging schools his party on words to use. Another find by Jimmy Carter’s grandson, who found the 47% video:
May he rot in hell. I hear he tried to take all that back on this death bed. Just because you leave a legacy of crap, dying doesn’t make that crap go away.
I look at it this way. I firmly believe there’s a cosmic reason why Atwater only lived to be 40 and died when he did. I shudder to think of the further damage he could have done. People just don’t realize how much damage this man did to American politics.
I, as a Roman Catholic……when one has confessed and ask for forgiveness……This Roman Catholic is always on the side of redemption and forgiveness.
Fact: When Lee Atwater found out that the end was near….he did confess and he asked for forgiveness and he did say that was wrong and that the Southern strategy and racial methodology should be abandoned.
I met him at a school event in 1981 in DC. Well, truthfully, I didn’t meet him but attended a GOP forum where he spoke…..I was in DC for the Reagan Inauguration.
Hello everyone. I have not been able to post for a week now due to computer problems so I missed spending election night and the days of continued celebration with everyone.
First of all I would like to congratulate everyone on the re-election of President Obama -it is wonderful and such a relief for the rest of the world.
Honour must be given to all those here who worked so hard on the ground, phone banking, canvassing ,tweeting, donatng and sending positive prayers and vibes.
Especial thanks to Ms Chips for providing such a magnificent and calming oasis in the cauldron of angst, unease, constant criticism and hate. It was very important for my nerves and I think many others.
I am sure we will be here for the four year journey to come as both witnesses and participants.
Thank you all for your company, insights and fun and my best wishes to all going forward.
It´s exactly one week ago hat PBO was reelected and it´s 3 days ago that I returned to Germany from a short “election-trip” to the States. I just had to be there, I just had to do something- at least I wanted to try. That´s why I took some days off, booked a flight to Chicago and contacted the local Obama campaign buro. I just asked, if they could need some help for example canvassing in Wisconsin or Iowa. I was a bit reluctant because I thought somehow ..it´s not my affair, it´s not my election, I´m just a crazy foreigner – though it all ment so much to me. And I was just overwhelmed how open-minded and how friendly everybody was. They said of course I´m welcome and they appreciate my help. I took part in weekend trips to Iowa on Saturday and Sunday – and was impressed, how many people boarded the bus at 7 in the morning to go to Muscatine and Dubuque knocking on doors. There was a man who told me, that he had never done this before but now he was getting nervous. And there was an old woman with a rolling walker who wanted to do something, too. And I was deeply touched by an old man who said, that he had some problems, because he needed to go to the toilet quite often – and this was a problem, while he was out knocking on doors. Fortunately there was a hospital nearby so he could get some relief. I was deeply impressed, that this man in spite of his problems just had this inner voice that told him, that he had to go out and get involved! So much enthusiasm! And even while knocking on doors myself and talking to people I never had the feeling of being an outsider, although my English is not perfect and with an accent. And of course I hesitaded to tell my “personal” story, when I met undecided voters – well that didn´t happen too often, anway. In Dubuque finally I met a young British guy who had been volunteering for 4 or 5 weeks for the Obama campaign , organizing all there was to do. And he told me, that the day before there were also some people from Scandinavia helping. So I was not the only crazy person! I have never been campaigning for any politician, and I probably will never do that again, neither in Germany nor in the United States. But this was a once in a lifteime experience – and I did it, because I just couldn´t stand the idea, that the fist black President was elected off not even 4 years after his inauguration – not after all he had done , not after he has worked off his ass (sorry)! No ! And the American President is the leader of the free world and important for the whole world. And peronally for me .. he is a constant source of inspiration, with his decency and his attitude … and .. well you know. Well after all..it was a wonderful experience, I was able to witness election night in McCormick Place – as I got a ticket after the canvass-trips. I always thought, the moment, CNN would come out with the breaking news would be like … the decisive penalty in a soccer final.. but no. It was much deeper..and it took much longer, untill this big relief finally got to my soul. But I will especially never forget these two days in Iowa – and all the people I met there. And though I´m not an American I really liked Obamas words on election night that characterized the American people best: “What makes America exceptional are the bonds that hold together the most diverse nation on Earth — the belief that our destiny is shared; that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another, and to future generations..” and so on. You don´t have to speak the language perfectly, you don´t even have to be an American, you are accepted anyway – that´s what I felt these days. I am very jealous on that fundamental philosophy – unfortunately we are far away from that in Germany ( but I promise to work on it). ..and I´m glad to keep your President as a source of inspiration for another 4 years .. and of course this blog as well.. I´m usually just lurking . So thank you all very much – and keep on going forward!
Your post is very inspirational and touched my heart! Thank you so much, peti!
Hello Petti4-44, thank you for your great effort in helping to elect our wonderful President. Your story and experience were very inspirational and the world participation in this election of our esteemed President is something to behold. Just like the American Revolution, America was helped by France and other foreign nations to be a free country, your sacrifice helped free us from the potential tryanny of the Republican rule. I thank you again for your sacrifice and time in this worthwhile endeavour. President Obama is a once in a lifetime President of the world.
OMG peti4-44, what a remarkable person you are. I personally cannot thank you enough! You stepped outside of your comfort zone and did something bigger than you could have imagined. Our President I am sure is so proud of all the help he received from you and many of our other friends from around the world.
Your committment and determination brought me to tears. Again I send you a heartfelt THANK YOU!!!!!!
Petitr-44 What an amazing journey and thank you for your hard work canvassing for our president! Wow, so inspirational and I know he was speaking of you when he said in his acceptance speech that all of you own a piece of that history for a lifetime and would always have the deep thanks from a grateful president.
I wonder if you were on one of the bus trips to Iowa that I went on? I went to Davenport and there was a young guy British guy on the bus in front of me that I chatted with. He was taking lots of photos and his girlfriend was with OFA in VIrginia. Ahhh well, if not there’s two of them!!
Thanks again for sharing this great story.
Well, there must be (at least) two. I went to Muscatine on Saturday and to Dubuque on Sunday. And the British guy I met in Dubuque and he had been in Des Moines the weeks before.
You are freaking fantastic and an inspiration to us all.
I am so proud of you :-) Thank you for working to get our POTUS reelected :-)

Just Because He’s Black (author unknown):
A white man asked his black friend ” Are you going to vote for Barack Obama just because he’s black?” The black man responded by saying, “Why not? Hell in this country men are pulled over every day just because they are black; passed over for promotions just because they are black; considered to be criminals just because they are black. Thousands of white voters won’t be voting for him just because he is black! However you don’t seem to have a problem with any of that! This country was built with the sweat and tears of black slaves; and now a black man has a chance to lead the same country, where we weren’t even considered people, where we weren’t allowed to be educated, drink from the same fountains, eat in the same Restaurants, or even vote. So yes I am going to vote for him! But it’s not just because he’s black, but because through his leadership several of Americas most elusive enemies were brought to justice; our economy, health and environment improved; and our good reputation around the world has been restored. He is hope. He is change. He is wise. He is a man of integrity and intelligence. He is a man of faith and perseverance. A man of maturity and good judgment. He is a faithful husband and father. And he now allows me to understand when my grandchildren say they want to be President when they grow up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal. They now see, understand, and know that they can achieve, withstand, and do ANYTHING that they can dream for themselves.. So no, I am not voting for him because he is black… I’m voting for him because “I’M BLACK.”
just wow, what a statement
Plus no one has ever questioned the AA community of voting for Bill Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, and those that voted for white GOP candidates because they are “White”. If anyone ask me that question, I’ll ask them if they voted for Romney and all those previous GOP candidates because they are “White”? The answer is obviously yes.
“I am voting for him because I AM BLACK was also said by Samuel Jackson on Real Time with Bill Maher.
I thought….I get that. But no one asks Mormons whey they were voting for Romney. No one asks 70% of Jews, 73% of Latinos/Hispanics, 75% of Asian Americans, 85% of Muslims, 39% of Whites, 55% of women, etc.
12.5%…..37M are the population of the African Americans in USA today. When will the nonsense STOP?
I dunno. You tell me!
Yardarm, please thank your friend for me for expressing so well what I feel and believe.
Mark Morford @ SFGate: “The Great Obamagasm of 2012″
“I think I can perhaps speak for quite a large percentage of us when I say: Oh, thank God.
I mean, truly. Knees down, palms together, offering a massive wave and slab and magnum champagne bottle full of deep, ferocious gratitude to whatever god, deity or divinely-shaped ball of progressive-soaked energy you choose to offer it up to, we say: thank you, thank you, oh sweet Jesus, thank you.
This just in: The pro-choice, pro-women, pro-environment, pro gay-marriage, pro-education, pro-health care-reform black guy who seems to genuinely care about the state of the world and helping as many people as possible even though he’s imperfect and can’t get it right every time, he beat out the hollow, wildly dishonest, anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-environment, anti-everything rich guy no one really liked and everyone knew would slam us back a couple generations and a Mormon half.
And lo, it is a good day indeed.”
GOP to blame if deadline passes on fiscal curb, Americans say: http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/11/13/15141771-poll-if-government-careens-off-fiscal-cliff-gop-to-shoulder-blame?lite
This is directly related to PBO’s statement last week about the middle-class tax cut. He said the Senate already passed it and it was now up to the House. That was very deftly done. People realize the Senate is in Dem control and the House Republican control. Methinks we will see more and more of this.
I also think the GOP thinks that if it happens PBO will be blamed.
Ok folks, help me out here. I just got an email from DCCC asking me for money to fight lunatic Alan West’s recount battle. I thought a judge ruled against this. Am I wrong? Is West still able to file suit and if he is, why is this the DCCC’s problem?
Good question. I’ve been getting the same emails and they need to better explain why they need money. One of the most annoying things about all those donation emails was that I would get them from all over the country and the email never identified which state/district they were from. I always had to look that up separately on Google unless they were well known names. If you are asking for money please explain who you are and (now) WHY you still need it.
Agreed! I’m not gonna send my money to just any damn body.
I think there are going to be more legal challenges. It’s to help defray costs.
Legal challenges and defraying the costs to whom? The DCCC? The State of Florida? I’m not trying to be snippy, I really want to know.
He can drag it out in the courts and intends to do so. (So much for ‘frivolous’ lawsuits, the miserable fraud). So Murphy and the DCCC need money to put lawyers in the courts to fight this loon.
So he’s suing Murphy and the DCCC and not the state of Florida who is responsible for counting the votes.
He suing anyone and everyone he can. He’s decided in his fevered brain that the county official of Lucie County is cheating and delivering the win to PBO fraudulently. But then who defends these accusations? The opposing candidate (Murphy) and the DNC. Lawyers have to go to court to answer this b.s.
Thank you 57. I appreciate you straightening this out for me. Now I can make an informed decision on whether I want to contribute or not.
I didn’t send a lot but I sent a little. West is hoping we’ll move on and we cannot afford to do so.
Our party is very different under the leadership of PBO and DWS. No, they didn’t win everything we set out to win, but there is a different attitude and we have to build on that and commit to the long game. That means supporting Patrick Murphy in this fight — we can’t just show up once every four years. We need to send a message that we ‘get it’ the way Republicans have always gotten it: we change things one district at a time and we send a powerful message if we help out Patrick Murphy and the Democratic party.
Agreed. I have no intention of moving on, I just want to be clear about what’s going on.
DAYUMMM!!!!!! Randi SCHOOLING some idiot who claims he’s a black guy doing small business that makes over $250,000! Said he voted in 2008 but not last week because PBO hasn’t done nothing for black people. He’s just spewing repuke talking points and Randi taking him to the woodshed and WHAT!!!!!! hahahhahahhahhahhaha!!! Too much FAUX news. he just brought up the president buying people cell phones!!! hahahhahahhhahahahahahahahahahhahaha!!!! I’m dying!!!! He’s an ass. Oh my gosh. This guy is an idiot.
I love Randi, she told that fool about all of PBO’s small business tax credits, went into minute details, she talked about everything! then he was like, “I built my business, regardless of what the president said” then she placed him over her legs and spanked his butt!!!! She was just fantastic. I was dying of laughter! She said: “if you are doing well enough in this economy to make over $250,000, then its time for you to pay your fair share because you’ve had it easy in the last 12 years.”
That was suuuuuuuuch a royal spankin’….Randi Rocked it. The guy after that too was good.
yeah, he was! Wish him success with his soon to be small business.
I thought I was the only one that heard the caller. The guy makes 250 thousand and he doesn’t know about the small business tax cuts that President Obama signed.
I think he’s lying. he makes over $250,000 per year with a landscaping business during the recession, and even though our economy is better than it was 4 years ago, I still find it pretty interesting that he’s managed to make over quarter million dollars.
he was a complete idiot. He did not understand the difference between making a $250,000 profit or gross revenue of $250,000. he said he plowed his money back into the business. Well, if he did that then he was not ‘making’ (read: netting) $250,000/year and would not be taxed on it (the IDIOT). Now, there’s a possibility that he was so fantastically dumb that he didn’t incorporate his business, which would be phenomenally stupid. But even at that, you DO NOT use AFTER TAX dollars for the running of your business. God.
I am forever amazed at ‘small business owners’ who don’t understand that you are only taxed personally on anything over and above what you put into your business (and even at that, you only need to claim ‘half’ the profit for taxes. The other half ‘stays in the corporation). If you’re not using that money for your business before taxes, you’re a complete idiot.
Let’s be clear: anyone who can claim a payment to himself of $250,000+ after taking any and all deductions for his business, is doing GREAT. These alleged ‘small businesses’ that Republicans tout are hedge fund managers and doctors’ and lawyers’ offices who don’t have a lot of capital investment to write off.
Randi did great. But she bought on faith that he was clearing $250,000/year and it was obvious to me that that was not true.
MoveOn post Obama meeting: "President strongly reiterated commitment to ensuring Bush tax cuts for wealthiest 2% finally end 12/31." @edshow— John Nichols (@NicholsUprising) November 13, 2012
Emoprog concern trolls- Go suck on eggs!
YOu’re confusing me. Isn’t this a good thing?
The emocrat crowd has latched on to some deal memo that said the President is going to cave on Medicare, Social Security. I thought our theme was Forward. But there are lot of folks looking backward to a friggin’ deal memo that never turned into anything as the smoking gun that proves the President intends to betray progressives.
He’s a man that said he’d get bin Laden and did. He said he’d end Don’t ask, Don’t tell and he did. He said he won’t sign an extension of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy and he won’t.
So Van Jones and his fellow firebaggers can bay about betrayal as much as they want, but the President met with several progressives today and told them he’s got their back and they say they’ve got his.
So any emoprog concern trolls that plan to diary incessantly on DKos and concern troll at HuffPost, can sit down. We all helped this President with his mandate, not just emoprogs. We trust and support him because of his tremendous track record.
Emoprogs would do better by pressuring the elected reps from their states who face re-election, rather than undermining the man who was re-elected in an electoral landslide and is not facing re-election.
yes. They’re awful, and they’re awful immediately. Because every effing rumor is now proof to them of PBO caving. I’m not going to spend the next year fighting with them because I truly believe that that particular fever is not going to infect our prospects for moving the progressive football down the field in 2014 and beyond.
They did a lot of damage in 2010 but I’m also hearing that the unions and other progressive groups ‘get it’ much better this time than they did in 2010 and understand that we have a decade-long fight to undo conservative damage. So I’m hoping that these fools will be marginalized much more now.
I don’t have the time or energy to fight with them this time. I’d rather find more effective uses of my time. Hopefully, a lot more of us are going to have the President’s back this time (which was actually the phrase used by someone in today’s meeting).
Absolutely spot on FiredupinCa…
President Obama will begin talks with congressional leaders Friday with a plan to raise $1.6 trillion in new tax revenue from the wealthy — making clear that, at least the outset, a wide gulf remains between congressional Republicans and the White House on the most contentious point in the negotiations.
While Obama said last week he is not wedded to every detail of his previous proposals, the White House said Tuesday that it did not intend to provide any new plan or make any concessions ahead of the start of negotiations.
Ha! Democrats beat Willard and are now going to rip off his idea about capital gains to deal with hedge funds. hahahahhahhahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha!!!!!!!!
love this soooo much!
“Iranian-born Israeli singing superstar Rita Jahanforuz, on a US tour to promote her Persian language hit album, ‘My Joys,’ thrilled guests at a performance at the Washington residence of Israeli Ambassador Michael and Sally Oren Monday night.
Several in the largely Iranian American crowd had flown in from Los Angeles to see the Israeli Madonna, known universally just as Rita, sing the Persian hits of their youths. The crowd in the packed living room at times could hardly contain themselves from joining in, as Rita sang in Persian and Hebrew, recounted her mother’s Persian lullabies and the longing of exile, and cracked a couple political jokes. Amb. Oren, who addressed Rita “as one ambassador to another,” joined the band for a final number, playing the Irish drums.
Talking about a message she had received from a fan in Iran, where Rita’s albums are reportedly an underground sensation played at weddings, Rita spoke of her hope that one day Iranians and Israelis can again be friends.”
