** Thailand is 12 hours ahead of US EST **
Yayyy.
Yes! Tailand is 12 hours in the Future.
The east has always been ahead of the west.
/ducks and runs.
Certainly true in Irish terms
No need to run Amk for telling the Truth! It’s in the east that the sun rises and it’s in the west that the sun sets.
I wonder how he deals with his jet lag. His schedule is insane.
I wonder too ck. I have to make adjustments when I go from the west coast to the east coast to visit family and that’s just a 3 hour time zone difference – LOL!!!
He thinks of Michele, the girls, Bo and the cocoa butter waiting for him at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!
What jet lag?
COCOA BUTTEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!
……….hiya, folks!
I can always rely on that reference pulling you, LisaLoves, out of the shadows!
Congratulations, pf!!!
WOW. Didn’t know that. Shows what traitors Republicans are. Democrats need to call them out on this.
You know you are an Obamabot if you plan to set your alarm to watch our POTUS deplane in Bangkok
of this we have no doubt…will be setting my alarm clock right with you!!!!
Guilty as charged. LOL.
Fortunately for us night owls in CA, 3AM is only midnight. I don’t remember the last time I wen’t to bed before midnight (3AM EST).
When Barbara Bush tells the GOP to ‘move on’ you know it’s really bad inside the GOP swamp …
Even Babs is tired of the whinning – hahahahaha!
I know. Had to laugh. One thing for sure, when she’s being that public about it, the stuff being said in private is probably really vicious.
Great point Bobfr
ROFL!!!!!
Maybe we should send in Dr. Phil to hold group counseling
thanks chipsticks!
You’re welcome Forus!!!!
Purrrrr. I received a hand-written thank you note from Suzan DelBene today. She thanked me for my early support (I was the only one in my area who didn’t want Darcy Burner) and my help during the campaign. Happy Dance!!!!!!
Congrats to both of you. burner was just that.
The sweetest thing – you deserved it Tien Le, thrilled for ya!
You earned that Tien Le and am delighted she thanked you in such a personal way. Fantastic!!! She’s going to be a very fine Member of Congress!
You deserve to do the happy dance Tien Le!
Congratulation, Tien Le, for picking a winner.
That is awesome.
Exciting – they are just as excited (maybe more) about this visit as we are here on TOD. I asked them how we can find live coverage, and they sent me this:
Oh GREAT GOING theo67 – Thanks!
Perfect!
Well done, theo!!!
Wat to go theo67, thanks.
Cool – I will follow them. Thank you Theo!!!
Does this mean TODville will be up all night following the President? Grrroooan! *My* poor body can’t keep living at this fever pitch (I’m remembering previous visits to the east), BUT I don’t want to miss out on the action WHILE IT’S HAPPENING!
Dear President Obama: I love you dearly and, along with some good friends, like to keep you company, especially when you are away from home. However, some of us are having difficulties with the never-ending aspect of your agenda. We are still catching our breaths while savouring the election victory. It was terrific, wasn’t it? Now you are off again and I for one can barely keep up. Do you think you could cut back a bit on your activities to make it easier for us to accompany you? Don’t you want to know that you are not alone? I’ll try to make it through this particular trip, but when you return, we have to talk.
Love & hugs, VC
You’re funny vc
Hi GGail! I’m never sure how to respond when people say this, especially when I can’t hear the tone of voice or see their eyes.
Nice to see you here at ‘home’ more often. Are you planning to stay up with PBO?
Hi vc – I’m so happy to be here at home more often too now that the campaign is OVER AND WE WON!!!!!
I found your communique to POTUS to be cute and funny – I laughed. LOL!!!
Now about being around for his arrival….well….I wake up at 1:00am pst anyway….so I’ll tune in to TOD and see what’s happening.
Well, GG, I MAY see you then if my eyes stay open. If not, save me a spot for the 6am official welcoming ceremony; I’ll probably quietly tiptoe in for that.
LOL! Dear VC, I really don’t want to miss our PBO’s arrival in Bangkok but alas, I’m not sure my body will physically allow for a 3AM commune….
Wimp!!!!
(Me neither)
Hf, I’m making no promises for the Bangkok arrival, though I’m toying with the idea of looking in to see what’s cooking, if anything, at the royal audience and the formal welcoming ceremony. I figure the Pres will appreciate seeing a familiar face at those events whereas he won’t even notice my absence at the plane landing.
Take a nap and set your alarm, VC. This is living history! And we have to be a part of it.
Hello there Ms Theo. I’m trying to be a part of history though I have to point out that alarms and I don’t gel. I need to wake naturally at all times otherwise I get a woozy head, so there’s never been an alarm in our house. We set a mental alarm before falling asleep and we wake up when we need to. However, much as I’d like to be there for PBO this time I don’t plan on setting my mental alarm, so we’ll see.
All right – well, you’ll be there on Jan 20/21, so I guess that will make up for it!
By the way, I sent you an email about the inauguration the other day.
I sent you and answer earlier today, ma cherie!
ok – I’ll have to log into work, and so I’ll check it tomorrow.
No problemo.
I know I will. Especially since I don’t have to go to work tomorrow.
Okay Nath, you cover the landing and the royal meeting thingy, and I’ll relieve you for the official ceremony. That seems fair.
damn you’re good!
Awesome, Theo!!
What in the World?
The saddest and most depressing of stories Jovie, the battle starts all over again for pro-choice rights in Ireland. Some day it’ll be dragged in to the 21st century.
Sorry about that chips. You gotta fight those bastards, too!
Ah, thank you Jovie, inch by inch Ireland is getting there, this is one more enormous battle.
Yes, it is very sad indeed. The article I read said that she and her husband pleaded with the consultant to abort, but was denied the procedure because of the law. Her husband said “but we’re not Irish or Catholic!”
It was a horrible decision by the doctors in that hospital. Hope the husband sues the hell out of them.
But if, as rumored – and not confirmed yet – the abortion was refused by the leading doctor for religious reasons, then I want to see the bastard charged with manslaughter. Savita, apparently, was told the foetus still had a heartbeat – as everyone has pointed out since, so did she.
Treacherous, barbaric behavior. Absolutely disgusting. A physician’s first duty is to the patient and the patient was Savita and NOT the fetus.
It’s gut-wrenching Bob, they left her in agony for three days, there just aren’t any words for this. Utterly barbaric. And the ‘pro’ lifers in Ireland still think they’re the moral ones. Oh boy, I hate these people so much.
A 1992 Supreme Court ruling decreed that abortions should be legal to save the life of the woman, including if she makes credible threats to commit suicide if denied one. But successive governments have refused to pass legislation spelling out the rules governing that general principle, leaving the decision up to individual doctors in an environment of secrecy.
///
Irish voters in 1992 passed constitutional amendments legalizing the right of Irish women to receive information on abortion services in neighboring England, where the practice has been legal since 1967, and to travel there without fear of facing prosecution. British health authorities estimate that 4,000 to 5,000 Irish residents travel annually to England for abortions.
Pathetic, isn’t it, especially when the SC there ruled in favor of women and the so called law makers are such wimps.
An insight to the anti-abortion lobby in Ireland: some of them pushed for women traveling to Britain in the 80s/90s to be forced to have pregnancy tests on their departure and on their return. What then, they were asked? Most wouldn’t answer, but some suggested if they were no longer pregnant on their return, they be charged with murder. I kid you not.
Talk about witch hunt. How come none of the parties there are unwilling to take on these troglodytes ? Didn’t you have two women prezinents named Mary ?
Alas, the Mary Presidents were powerless, purely a ceremonial role! Parties a bunch of gutless, spineless, contemptible conservative turds, even the supposedly ‘pro-choice’ Labour Party who are part of the Government. A few squeaks from them, but they’ll do **** all, too fond of their perks to walk out over this.
So both the supreme court as well as the presidents are powerless there ? No checks and balances?
Scary – we could have been on that slippery slope again too if…..
Indeed.
Why does the wall painting say “hello again”? Has POTUS been there before?
Crikey, I missed that Forus – was he there as a kid?
If Rice goes to Sec of State, Samantha Powers next in line as UN Ambassador, and if not, Powers is next in line as Sec of State.
Powers is one of the Presidents closest friends, and he has plans for her!
I think I recall she had a slip of the lip in ’08 about Hillary – hopefully all is forgotten by now! She’s very impressive.
She is obviously very excited about the visit by the President and SOS Clinton – delightful tweets in her TL
Love it.
I watched the show she said this on. AWESOME. When she hits it out of the park…she REALLY hits it out of the park!
Love me some Rachel. She knows how to tell it like it is.
Reality Check!
Read somewhere that this is the last trip together for PBO and SoS Clinton. Kind of sad, given how well they’ve worked together.
I’m just glad she’ll get a rest, and especially glad that – to the best of my recollection – she served PBO, our country, and democracy well over the last four years without any personal incident or scandal. Thank you, Secretary Clinton! That “Team of Rivals” worked out well.
Jacquelineboomer, yes Secretary Clinton has done a beautiful job. I believe in my heart that she and President Obama have a bond that will be a lasting one. She certainly has a record to be proud of before POB and the American people. She has served both with elegance, grace, and a brilliance that is to be commended by the president.
They have a relationship that will be one that will respectful, gracious, and if need be, POB will, in my opinion help her, if and when she decides to take a run for it in 2016.
I feel that their historical Doris Goodwin’s “Team of Rivals” relationship worked with beauty, awe, intellect, and a respectfulness shown by two brilliant and compassion human beings. And her president gave her all those things to stand on the “diplomatic stage” for all the world to see how two brilliant minds could be so brilliant as they worked together for the betterment of our nation and the people of the world.
I am so grateful for this team, President Barack Obama and Sec. Hillary R. Clinton. Whatever path she chooses, may it be a blessed one indeed. HZ
Indeed!
Well said, Jacquelineoboomer. When you have rivals who are secure and act as adults they tend to put aside petty and minor differences.
Yes, and it’s a beautiful sight to see. ‘Cause PBO is surrounded by adults, and he picked ‘em.
I have a feeling she’ll run for the Presidency in 2016, so most likely they’ll take trips together campaigning for her. Or at least, I hope so.
Karen Finney mentioned last night that running for President is gruelling, and if someone isn’t up to it, it’s torture. She mentioned that Sec. Clinton may be thinking that she’d rather spend her time usefully working for a foundation where she can make a difference without having to deal with the politics. Considering that she’s been working solidly for decades now, she may want to avoid the games played in politics, and leave her political legacy intact. Karen also mentioned that people tend to forget how nasty and negative these campaigns can become – and sometimes the payoff just isn’t worth it, especially if you’ve already given a lifetime of public service. I hope Hillary takes time to rest and makes a decision based on what she wants to do, not what so many are calling for her to do – although, they may be the same in the end.

20 new dem women vs 4 new repub women. That say’s it all.
don’t know why they chose that photo of eliz warren–editorial?
? They have all the women senators (Baldwin, Heitkamp, Hirono & Warren) as we all the congress members.
i mean, warren is the only one who seems to be talking!
Yeah – that’s a strange picture, when the rest of them are posed for the photo. Also, nice to see all the California faces – many of whom I supported. And Julian Castro’s brother is there, too. Great to see many young faces – hopefully, they can bring some new ideas to some of those people who’ve become entrenched in politics.
Ot oh!
And the fucker will still lose.
Xactly …
This Mural is soo beautiful!!!
The photo of the day:
A photo of the Olympic gold medalist gymnast and President Barack Obama doing her now-famous “McKayla Maroney is not impressed” face went viral Saturday after the White House posted it on Twitter. The two took the picture Thursday when Maroney and her Fierce Five teammates visited the White House.
“He was the one who brought it up,” Maroney told The Associated Press. “We were about to leave and he said, ‘I want to talk to you one second about the face.’ He said, ‘I pretty much do that face at least once a day.’”
Maroney was photographed making the half scowl with her nose scrunched up while she was on the medals podium after winning silver on vault at the London Olympics. It spawned dozens of “McKayla Maroney is not impressed” memes – including one showing a photoshopped Maroney in the White House Situation Room on the night Osama Bin Laden was killed.
The “face” has become Maroney’s trademark. But it’s one thing for fans to ask her about it, quite another when the president does.
“I, like, freaked out,” Maroney said. “He said, ‘Let’s do it together.’ We took a picture and now it’s everywhere.” …
“He’s the coolest person I ever met,” she said – which is saying something, considering the Fierce Five have hobnobbed with a Who’s Who of celebrities since London. “He’s got the hardest job in the entire world.”
I think I’ve read this about six times today, and each time, it brings a smile to my face like I’m reading it for the first time. First – that the President would know about “the face”. Second, that he would make her day by posing with the face himself (and making her feel better about having made that face in the first place at such an important moment, by telling her that he does it himself every day – the Leader of the Free World). And third, that she fawned over him and truthfully stated that he’s the “coolest person” she ever met, and that he’s got the “hardest job in the entire world”. She’s just a kid, but she knows more than several million people who voted for the other guy in this country. I love it!
I know, right? And he is by far most definitely the coolest person in the world.
Indeed!
I personally think that it is great. We have the coolest person that I know of in that Oval Office, and I am so joyful in my spirit that he knows the weight of his job and yet he carries it with so much grace. And yet he can stand in that same office and realize how human he is and those around him can enjoy that, but yet respect him as a decent, kind, compassionate, and caring person, And still walk out and say, “I just talked and visited with my President of the United States of America. Now that is reality Big Time.HZ
So many great points in your post, HZ. He really is a one in a billion wonder!
They reported on this photo on my local NBC news.
sam wang responds to gallup:
‘ Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport appears to be on a campaign against poll aggregation. In a recent essay (‘Polling, Likely Voters, and the Law of the Commons‘, Gallup.com) he writes:
It’s much easier, cheaper, and mostly less risky to focus on aggregating and analyzing others’ polls. Organizations that traditionally go to the expense and effort to conduct individual polls could, in theory, decide to put their efforts into aggregation and statistical analyses of other people’s polls in the next election cycle and cut out their own polling. If many organizations make this seemingly rational decision, we could quickly be in a situation in which there are fewer and fewer polls left to aggregate and put into statistical models. Many individual rational decisions could result in a loss for the collective interest of those interested in public opinion.
Oh, please. Considering Gallup’s performance in estimating the national race, this could be interpreted as a defensive move by this year’s equivalent of the Literary Digest poll (‘Landon by a landslide,’ George Mason University).
Newport misses the positive value that we bring to his activity. It is too bad, because what we do can ultimately increase the relevance of his organization. ‘

shorter gallup – Don’t fact-check us.
Good one. For such a long-esteemed organization, they really are going down.
Calm. That’s how I feel.
In the run-up to the election, I was a bundle of excited nerves. I knew we’d win—math never lies, though liars use math, sometimes—but getting through election day was like worrying a scab off of a wound. You just want it over with.
Now, with Obama safely re-elected, with the Senate more firmly in Dem hands, and with the GOP in charge of the House only by the grace of their gerrymandering and with the sure knowledge that any cock-up will be blamed on them, I’m calm. The arc of history is long, but it tends towards justice; I’ve never been more convinced of that than after watching the events of the past spring and summer and fall. We are on the road to something greater than we’ve ever imagined, something I’ve yearned for but often relegated to the realm of wishful thinking. The work left will be hard; 2014 will be here before you know it, and then in 2016 we’ll need someone to continue the Obama Revolution. But we’ll get there.
Now I’m making a cocktail.
Mix one for me.
Well said, LL. Well said!
Amen, LL!
LL, you just made me cry my eyes out. Your comments were so elegant, yet so deep and pure in what a journey we have taken with this great man and what we still have to look forward to by the grace of Almighty.
Thank you for reminding us to stop, take a deep breath, and be so grateful that we are making history for our nation to be a better measurement to justice, equality, and a respectfulness that we hope and pray will take hold by the “good angels” inside all of us.
Now I am going for my glass of “cardiological deep red” for the ticker for the evening. I drink to you and your lovely wife. I also hope that all is going fine for her. ((((((( Hugs to her from all of us)))))))HZ
You are such an eloquent voice. Thank you so much.
To show my deep appreciation I’m having a cocktail. Or two.
I can almost hear the snap of those gloves:)

Livni has to become the face of opposition again. She is the exact opposite of that corruptest bastid nut-n-yahoo.
Yes she is. And, though President Shimon Peres has stated he won’t run, it’s been widely reported that she is urging him to lead a center-left coalition in the 22 Jan 2013 election. That was his stance a week ago. Perhaps these horrible events will convince him he needs to step in and defeat Bibi.
Israelis seem to have a perpetual love affair with their most corrupt pols. Jingoism seems to be the main reason for it.
I’ve always loved the word “jingoism” – it seems like it should mean something so much more fun than what it actually means.
Funny you say that, theo, as I’ve always felt the same!!
The problem is that Mr Peres has never won an election. Every time he’s been PM he’s inherited the position, and then failed to hold office when running for re-election. But, optimist that I am, I have to believe that the Israeli body politic has hit a breaking point. When rockets hit—even glancingly—at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, people have to realize that the right has lied to them, and that the right’s policies have not, in fact, kept them safe, but just fostered an even more toxic brew of rage and resentment on the part of the Palestinians.
The Arabs call Israel a “crusader state”. For the sake of the world’s peace, Israel has to prove them wrong, and show that it does, in fact, belong in that region.
Agree and I will remain an optimist because there are just so many fine Israelis and Palestinians and they must prevail. This episode is such a colossal over-reach by Bibi and the right that maybe, finally, they will get behind Livni and Peres and begin forging a sustainable relationship with the Palestinians.
Hope you are enjoying your cocktail, LL and glad to know your wife is doing better.
Not gonna happen. Any slim chance has gone with this war – which is why Bibi started it to begin with. This election should have been about social and economic issues, and therefore there was some chance that he’ll lose. That’s why he tried to drag us all into a war with Iran, and when it didn’t work, he took the second option. The real sad thing is that there’s no alternative. Israel is more than ripe for a Barack Obama, but there’s not even a half Obama in sight.
Just perfect.
The evilest bastid in the world today.
+ A gazillion gazillion. Pure and utter evil scum.
So, which of you sleepy heads is going to be up for PBO’s arrival in Thailand?
Amk??
I think I might just about make the press conference
I am Chips. Of course I am on the west coast.
Ooooh, you westies!
the 4.95 a month I pay for BBC World is worth every penny. I’m sure they’ll carry it.
I am as well, Chips. I have two beautiful men there, so can’t leave my men alone. Just got to look after my brother for my mother and dad, and my president for our beautiful FLOTUS. HZ
I will be here, waving from California! I may have to take a nap in a bit to prepare…
Sleep – right now!
Yes, ma’am!
Well, actually, let me stay up a little longer…?
Chips, everyone, you’ll LOVE this!!!
Oh Bob, I’m a weeping wreck again – utterly wonderful, thank you!
Yep. That one really got to me, as well, Chips! And, such an important victory given that it happened in teabagger infested AZ CD2!
Thanks again Bob, I think that result will lift the hearts of SO many.
This result speaks to the title of my upcoming piece on TPV: “Calm seas, miles to go.” If a Dem can win in that district, change is not just more than possible, it’s inevitable.
Can’t wait to read it LL, even if you are a Chelski fan
Hey, I could be a Scouser. Count your blessings.
Well, that’s true! (Nothing grimmer than that!)
I think I will have my alarm on and follow the tweets on my Droid. I can do that in the dark in bed. I do want to follow this trip. Are you going to have a new post Chips?
Hiya Marilyn, probably won’t be around for the early stages of the Thailand trip, hope to be awake-ish for the press conference!
This is encouraging.
And if Gaza did that to Hamas, we might have something!
Hamas and the Likud Party, should just go to Megiddo and get it over with. Leave the rest of us alone!
Jovie, Palestinians in Gaza are murdered for resisting Hamas – that is no secret, btw.
Gazans are caught between Eretz Yisrael and Hamas. Really, I can’t even begin to fathom being them.
Ditto!
But what is a secret is they play both sides, covert style.
Copy that!
It wouldn’t just be Likud and Hamas. Pat Robertson would be there waiting for Jesus.
Random culture comment: If I haven’t fully embraced American football, I at least have come to appreciate it as an expression of American culture. I think I’ve watched more football this year than I have for the past 20. But I do prefer the college game over the pro game, if only because the NFL is an odious organization.
Gabby’s smile and arms raised up with Mr. Barber reminds me of the moment she and POB embraced on the floor of the State of the Union Speech. This is another “moment of goodness” standing up brave, strong, beautiful, and gracefully inspite of all that we have seen and been through these last four years. Yet in the midst of turmoil and hatred we can still see light, goodness, and love overpowering the bitterness.
We can do this together. We take this win for Gabby, her father, her mother, her loving husband, Mark, and all of the wonderful people she worked so hard for in her district. And we thankfully take it for her brilliant medical team and her precious and hardworking staff who are no longer with us and the beautiful families who are still healing from this journey.
(((((((((((((( We thank those who voted and made this happen for all of us))))))))))))))))))))))))HZ

In Visit to Myanmar, Obama Will See a Nation That Shaped His Grandfather
// WASHINGTON — When President Obama lands in Yangon on Monday, he will be the first sitting American president to visit the country now known as Myanmar. But he will not be the first Obama to visit.
Multimedia
The president’s Kenyan grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, spent part of World War II in what was then called Burma as a cook for a British Army captain. Although details are sometimes debated, the elder Mr. Obama’s Asian experience proved formative just as his grandson’s time growing up in Indonesia did decades later.
“His roots go through Burma,” said Timothy Parsons, an African history professor at Washington University in St. Louis who wrote a book on the colonial East African military. “It is kind of an odd intersection of his life. It’s like the three corners of the triangle come together — America, East Africa and Southeast Asia.” //
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/18/world/asia/in-myanmar-obama-will-see-land-that-shaped-his-grandfather.html?smid=tw-share
How fascinating! President Obama truly is a complex man.
For those who are going to try stay up for PBO’s arrival (or get up) there’s some additional photos of Myanmar “readiness” here: http://edition.cnn.com/2012/11/17/politics/obama-asia-trip/index.html?hpt=ias_c1
Yeah! Thanks Foxfire – much appreciated. I think the whole world is watching this visit.
ROTFLMAO! What an obsessed dolt….
Joe Arpaio: I Wish Obama Would Invite Me To White House For Drinks
// Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio would like to have his own version of a “man-to-man” beer summit with President Barack Obama so he could give the president advice on dealing with immigration, the outspoken law enforcement official told Breitbart News in a story published Tuesday.
“I wish the president would invite me to the White House,” he said, according to the website. “We’ll have some wine and beer, and light up cigars.” //
The arrogant delusions on the right can be easily confused with lunacy. Just vile.
They cannot help it. They want so badly to be recognized and in the presence of the “cool kid.”. From McShame to Trump to this fool, they are eaten up with jealousy. They hate him because he ignores them, because they are nothing to him and their sense of self-importance makes his indifference toward them impossible for them to accept. They are carnival barkers, jokes, fossils whose time has long passed. PBO has no interest in them nor does he fear them. Added to all of this he is a Black man who wields the power that they think that they should have, with the the admiration of the world. Sucks to be them.
Good insight!
he is a Black man who wields the power that they think that they should have,
**************************************
thissssss
I am sure PBO does not intend to raise them to relevance by including them in any visit or photo shoot.
HELL to the NO!!! How dare Arpaio try to get an invite to the WH after he and Brewer deliberately lied about immigration and made PBO Arizona’s #1 enemy for their own political and personal gain. And, now, Brewer has the nerve to want to run for another term in AZ even though the state’s constitution says she can’t. No wonder some Arizonans call her “GED Jan.”
LOL – “GED Jan”? More like “extra crispy Jan” or “rawhide Jan”…
I would not trust this guy anywhere near PBO, even after he has gone to secret service security.
I’m back. Is this snark?’ Or is this person for real?
I hope Alan Grayson will use his second chance in Congress to actually do stuff, instead of just talking about stuff. There are too many talkers in Congress, not enough doers. I just saw a tweet about another outrageous comment. Maybe he should spend his time convincing his future colleagues to follow his lead on various topics, rather than just getting tv/radio time.
Too much talking and showboating in front of every camera around hurt him the first time he was in the House, theo. I hope he learned something and will avoid this type of behavior this time around. Lawrence O’Donnell mentioned last week that Sen. Al Franken is someone who you don’t see all over national TV, and that he focuses on appearing on TV in MN. Good move. That way he keeps in touch with the people of MN. The GOPers in MN are looking for someone to run against him in 2016, and one of their choices is Michelle Bachmann, of all people.
Goodness – we need Michelle Bachmann to disappear from national politics. Why can’t she just focus on her fake farming, or something? I just can’t tolerate that woman. And shouldn’t she be ashamed after screeching “one term President” for four years, and finding that she was 100% wrong about that? They have no shame, these people.
I learned something else today with this. So reps in the house can run for a senate seat?
Yes, I believe many of them have moved from the House to the Senate. I saw a pic earlier of then-Senator Obama siting and talking with then-Rep Sherrod Brown, and I was surprised that he’d been a House Rep before he became a Senator.
Okay, thks.
Good Morning, TODobots! Peeking in to verify that President Obama, SOS Clinton and their entourage have arrived safely.
Does anyone here know how can watch the MSNBC coverage of election night? Also CNN. i am trying to find coverage online with little success. Any smart bunnies here have any leads?
I looked – couldn’t find anything. Sorry!
Thanks for looking theo
Check the Rachel Maddow reporting for Nov. 6 (I haven’t), you might find something there. Usually the segments listed for some of the guys/gals with their own programmes will have their take on past issues. Rachel, Lawrence, etc usually do election reporting.
OH MY GOD! Chris Christie is on SNL. he got a rousing welcome.
Ugh.
that fucker is running in 2016.
And he will run as the evil Republican that he is. With the likes of mrs. Greenspan, Chuck Todd and their ilk saying how bipartisan he is
Why is Chris Christie on SNL? Politicizing already? Trying to make himself more attractive to the country?
Yup. Read above. He’s totally running in 2016.
He did appear to be sane when he was working with PBO on Hurricane Sandy. If he decides to run in 2016, his mouth and his temper will be his biggest downfall. Plus, he’s still a trickle down GOPer, and he’s not about to change that.
I hope 2016 brings some new blood with new ideas. Not the same nonsense that’s been spewing garbage for the past several years. Christie may have sucked up to President Obama (only two weeks after making crude jokes about him), but I’m not convinced that his thinking has changed at all. He’s heartless, and somewhat naive. And a bully. We need new, fresh people.
Theo67, I am with you all on this one. I believe the real serious young people will not have an appetite for a bully loud mouth leader who tries to make people feel like they are being pushed around. After having such a brilliant president like POB for eight years, the tone for the people will be one of a healing and “take a moment to think before you speak.”
There will be a ‘setting’ of wanting to continue to have a leader who will listen, embrace, show empathy, and allow the citizens to voice their concerns in a more compassionate manner. We will be use to having a problem solver who considers the people as a whole. There will be a very strong part of the voting block that will be so diverse, upbeat with great workable ideas, and have an excitement of working together to solve the problems that will come before our nation. And believe me 4 years from now POB will have left the young and older people in a better place as we help him to do so.
The young people will not allow themselves to be led by a bully, a non-listener, and a president with a “put-off attitude.” So, Christie , in my opinion will not have as much luster as he may seem to have at this moment in our history. I am putting my faith on the young people who want a world that will accept their new and promising ideals of a future of moving on in a very, very FORWARD direction.
I may be way ahead of myself, but I know that my great-nieces want more than a Christie and the other GOPers who are getting in line for 2016. I will always put my wonderful young people first. I have faith in them.HZ
I think you’re absolutely right, HZ. We’ll have had eight glorious years of a caring, thoughtful, graceful leader like President Obama. Christie may be able to fool people for a few days/weeks/months – but when he’s in the pressure of a cmapaign, he’ll show his true colors. And when people compare him with the wonder that is President Obama, they will expect better than that. President Obama has set a very high standard, and it will be difficult for unworthy people to meet that standard and pull the wool over the eyes of the electorate.
Theo67, I hope so. I just think how hard POB worked and thought this entire thing out for all of us, and how hard we all were inspired and worked side by side with him to bring us these eight years; and the young people are not going to allow it to all be so wasted on “power hungry politicians.”
The younger ones are going to want to order more than a cheap appetizer from their menu. Plain and simple.HZ
Yup!
I saw Lincoln tonight, needless to say this movie will sweep the 2013 Academy Awards for Acting, Director, Make Up, Score, Cinematography, Costume Design and whatever else can be awarded to this incredible movie. It was the 2nd best real life movie I’ve EVER seen.
1. The Passion of the Christ
2. Lincoln
3. Remember the Titans, got to put one of my church member’s motion pictures in the mix….lol.
Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Fields David Strathairn, and Tommy Lee Jones were…there aren’t in words in Websters to describe how amazing these three actors were. James Spader, yes…Less than Zero, James Spader was great, too I didn’t recognize him into half way into the film. PLEASE GO SEE THE MOVIE!!!!
And yes, I did cry….the 13th amendment to our Constitution was the greatest!!!!
Thanks for the report, Lorraine. Everyone seems to be loving this movie. I’ve always been a huge fan of Daniel Day Lewis – he’s simply authentic and fabulous.
My pleasure….
Thank you Loraine!!! And, it appears a very fine Member of Congress agrees with you …
My response was …
The issue in front of every elected representative of We the People is not a ‘fiscal cliff’ it is CREDIBILITY, and the next few weeks are going to be momentous, one way or the other, in shaping the nature of the relationship between We the People and those we elected.
I have ZERO doubt that #TrustBarack is the way #FORWARD
That is very kind of you, Lorraine!! Thank you
I second, third, fourth etc., that very thought as well Lorraine. Bobfr is the best indeed!!!!HZ
You are welcome, and it’s true; your tweets always thoughtful and meaningful.
I saw someone on MSNBC say they didn’t like the movie but cannot remember who said that. They thought the actor playing Lincoln did a good job but did not like the movie. Anyone remember whom I am speaking of as I have forgotten?
Love this tweet ….
So do I!
Yes, and I plan to enjoy each of the next four years’ worth of mornings like that!
Right there with you, theo … in fact, each morning since 6 Nov, the first thing my wife and I have said to each other is ‘Barack Obama is President for 4 more years’
Very sweet!
every day!
So true …
Absolutely perfect!
What a FANTASTIC picture of Ashley Judd!!!!
The next US Senator from Kentucky!!!
Just so she knows
Oh Bobfr, this is a great one also. Going to RT this right now. Thanks so much. Ashley Judd would be a great knock out for the grumpy ugly spirit of Mitch McConnell. We can work our butts off for this one.HZ
Yes, IN_DEED, HZ – we can definitely ‘work our butts off’ to bring Ms Judd to the Senate and rid it of the odious McConnell. Kentuckians will be so much better served by her and America will be a better place, for sure!
LOL!! This is too funny!
Will have to catch up with twitter tomorrow. Need sleep. G’night all.
Good night, smooth!
Behind the scenes prep:
Thanks for sharing theo67.
is FLOTUS with him
Neat image
Excellent tweet. Nails all the fuckers and the truth.
Close…
i love the colors they’re wearing! compare to all the gray, black, red, and blue in d.c.
And they look thrilled (and posed…). I love it! I’m glad that President Obama will be greeted by these smiles when he lands.
More preparations for President Obama’s arrival.
Getting even closer…
oops–repeated below.
I’m going to take a 40 minute nap. Hopefully, I’ll wake up in time for the arrival – you know how these things work… Keep the home fires burning!
no problem, theo–it’s 9:15 p.m. here!

hahahahaha…..you betta pay attention….hahaha
aloha prettyfoot! i’m usually up talking to myself at this hour–nice to have company! if you are able to post tweets here, that might be preferable to my pitiful copying!
i will just try to keep up…
so far as i know, the only news source is the bangkok embassy, and all i find there is tweets. no news stream on whitehouse.gov, nothing on msnbc or cnn. is this not news?!
huh. embassy website says tammy duckworth is first thai-american to serve in congress. that’s the first i heard she was thai-american. amazingly tenacious and courageous woman.
Hello Susanne – I’m at home in Australia – 6.08pm – when President Obama travelled here (press corps in tow) the only news was via the Australian Press. He was all over the TV & the papers – but if my memory is correct, he was nowhere to be seen on the US press.
hi 99
sad our press spends so much time picking at him, and so little time appreciating him.
hope this works–a video from al jazeera, with their take on the pbo visit to myanmar
http://aje.me/Qm1sLI
thank heaven you’re posting the tweets! my patchwork was pathetic.
Where do we watch PBO’s arrival?
Good morning all, just checking in.

Thank you so so much for posting all of the tweets prettyfoot! Above and beyond!!!
Thumbs up
If the MSM does not cover PBOs trip to Thailand…does that mean that it did not happen…..
is there a press core traveling with the President…
who is richard barrow?
don’t know…
independent photo/blog/journalist in thailand–he has lots of background on pbo visit on his site

Ok my bed is calling me. gotta turn in. It’s raining here in Los Angeles, my favorite kind of weather for sleeping. Great job bringing over the tweets of our Prez’ arrival in Bangkok TOD peeps! We are own media! MSM can go pound sand. G’nite all.
rain is the best sleeping weather! enjoy!
how beautiful is that builiding
wow! beautiful outside and inside–there’s a 45 meter gold reclining buddha, representing the moment the buddha enters nirvana.

This is the only president I’ve known who when HE travels *I* learn something.
richard barrow says ‘ CNN and BBC expected to broadcast the joint press conference at 7pm tonight between US President Obama and PM Yingluck ‘–(don’t ask me what time zone the 7 pm refers to.)
that’s 7AM EDT — 12 hrs time difference
Everyone loves PBO – wherever he goes – what an amazing welcome – ty susanne & prettyfoot for all the links/pictures
YES they so…but they can only have him for a lil while….he belongs to us…..2nd only to FLOUS of course…hahahaha
We’d be most happy to have him down under in 2017 – in my world no term limits on being PM
it’s fun having everybody up and enjoying pbo at this hour! pajama party!
http://twitpic.com/be8exu
I see from the report of the TOD team that traveled with them that they have! Excellent stick-with-it-ness, PrettyFoot, firat to sign on for duty and then to remain bright-eyed throughout your shift! Wow! The rest of you did a great job too. I’m not ready to sign on yet – just spot checking.
have mercy. i was just trolling though various sites, looking for news of pbo’s trip, and what i found was news of a trip by marco rubio to iowa. yes, much more newsworthy than the president abroad, meeting heads of state, cementing alliances in this volatile world–is marco rubio signaling a possible run for national office? i swear, it’s disgusting.
okay, i’ll patchwork these photos in from embassy tweets (very embarassing, but hey…)

on another topic (anybody awake?) puerto rico voted for statehood, and the ball is now in congress’ court. the economist has an interesting analysis, with this conclusion:
‘ Republican-controlled House of Representatives has little incentive to address the topic. According to exit polls, 83% of boricuas on the mainland voted for Barack Obama. Statehood would add two Senate seats and a House delegation of five, the same size as Oregon’s and probably as reliably Democratic.
Unless the island holds another vote that yields a different result, however, Puerto Rico has now officially requested statehood. If Democrats retake the House in 2014, they would be well-advised to try to add a 51st star to the flag. ‘

I’m awake, Susanne, but I’m trying to catch up on comments made earlier. Since I seem to have this obsession with following each link it always takes me forever to be current . I saw your comment because I was making a quick trip to the end.
that’s it for me! next team up!
aloha oe~
Aloha oe~, Susanne – a good night’s work on your part! Thank you and have a good night’s rest! I guess I’d better be the one to tag with you, even though I only meant to look in briefly. This PBO drug is hard to get out of one’s system!
Susanne – thanks for the excellent tweeting and posting. I slept thru the arrival, but I’m nearly all caught up. I can post tweets unless someone else further down is already doing it, but this current post is so long now, that it’s taking forever to refresh each page. President Obama and Sec Clinton are looking great in Thailand!
Oh joy, our press corps is on the job.
I see you made it for the welcoming committee, VC!
I see your nap is over.
Good Morning, Theo! I made the mistake of deciding to take a quick peek at 3:55 to ensure PBO landed safely AND I’m still peeking. This obsession is going to do me in!
If only I could bound out of bed during the work week like I bounded out of bed to jump online… This obsession will do me in, too…
We’ll be in the PBO Done-in Home together with a lot of other TODobots, so I guess we’ll have fun reminiscing.
-Remember when FLOTUS wore the green dress and …?
- Oh Lord, yes! That was a look to die for! She was always so graceful and dressed for the occasion, simple or sophisticated. I still picture Japa, Amk and the gang drooling over her.
-Remember the time POTUS played soccer with the kids in South America and that little boy was all over him like a best bud?
-And the time he and FLOTUS were dancing with the kids in India? Man he ain’t no dancer, but they sure looked like they were having fun! Aaah, those were the days, seeing a REAL president in action. /sigh of contentment/
…..
Yep, we’ll be done-in but we’ll have awesomely happy memories.
This is so true – you must have a window into the future, VC. I can see it happening exactly like that!
Probably dozing in a corner, with visions of her soccer/football stars with crazy hair dancing in her head…
Yeah! /hope she’ll be too bleary-eyed to notice this bit of speculation when she does arrive to upload new post/
I know – we’ll be in serious trouble…
It’s so cool to see all of these photos. THANKS! It is reminding me of my trip there ten years ago. I was not thinking of going there as it was only a few months from my trip to Australia and New Zealand and I usually only did one trip a year for financial reasons. My church travel group had decided to go on the trip and my worldwise daughter encouraged me to go too.
A little blurry, but Pres Obama with the King in Thailand.
President Obama’s plate for the dinner – there’s even a little doll waiting for him at his seat…
Waiting for the President at Govt House
Mark Knoller is actually committing acts of journalism…
Another funny tweet (not posted) sharing the Beast’s license plate for use as a lucky lottery number.
In fact, it’s already started. Bobby Jindal kicked this off by saying in response to Romney, “We need to continue to show how our policies help every voter out there achieve the American dream.” Marco Rubio weighed in with the reassuring news flash that, in fact, he does not think there are “millions and millions of people in this country that don’t want to work.” Fellow Floridian Rick Scott—bless him, the Rick Scott who ripped off Medicare before he became governor and has tried to block Democrats from voting since occupying the office—says Republicans have to say that “we want to take care of every citizen of our state.” Scott Walker, Haley Barbour, Michael Steele, Susanna Martinez, and others have made similar remarks.
All well and good. So now, let’s match this lovely rhetoric to the Republican record of the past decade or so.
Indeed – morning, amk!
Welcoming ceremony begins
Thank heavens for the embassy – we wouldn’t know anything if not for these people and a couple of other tweeters on the ground, like Richard Barrow!
For those who missed the President’s arrival in Thailand, here’s a bit of video.
