Politico: With Secretary of State Hillary Clinton planning to wrap up her service in the next few months, she and President Barack Obama have been spending some quality time together, waxing nostalgic about their work in office over the past four years and their history as rivals in the hard fought 2008 presidential campaign.

“On the flight back from Rangoon to Cambodia, they spent basically the entire flight alone in his personal office on Air Force One just reminiscing about the last four years, but as the president said, it wasn’t just the last four years, they’ve been through a lot together over the last five or six years and, in fact, unique among people they’ve been at this working as hard as they can for five or six years now,” Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters as Obama and Clinton were in Cambodia for Asian summit meeting.

“I think what the president expresses and what he believes is not only has she done a great job as secretary of state, but they’ve really come to become not just partners, but close friends and it’s a friendship that he values very much and that he’ll want to continue going forward,” Rhodes said.

    Bringing this over because I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it. :lol:

    It’s hilarious watching Joe Scarborough suck up to Nate Silver after calling “a joke” during the election. Joe says he (Scarborough) always predicted Pres. Obama would win. He also threw Gallup under the bus and said they were wrong all along and he called it. I had to crack up because there is endless footage of him hailing Gallup as the best thing since sliced pie and using it to justify a Romney win.

      If Joe attempts to defend the right wing and to bash President Obama the next four years he is going to have very limited material for three hours a day.

    • November 20, 2012 at 10:59 am

      I saw this too, and couldn’t believe Joke’s selective memory. When he said that he always predicted PBO would win I didn’t know whether to sh*t or go blind!!!

    • November 20, 2012 at 4:52 pm

      You must have a cast iron stomach to watch Morning Joke. I had to give it up. Not surprising that Joe is claiming to have been a prophet pre-election, and that he’s forgotten that he’s on video saying the exact opposite of what he’s claiming now.

      The man is an idiot.

      Good news for the Nordies UT! Not sure how beneficial it’ll be financially, though, the cost of security for these things is flippin’ enormous. Southern Ireland still paying the bill for the Queen and PBO’s visits – but one of them was worth it ;-)

    Wow Chips! What an amazing morning smorgasboard. I posted this last night but you might want to add it. It is an amazing segment by Alex Wagner on the Last Word on PBO’s Burma visit with a different twist than any other. She is half Burmese so it obviously was important to her. It is also very touching, had me in tears.

That is a beautiful video …. what a wonderful, from the heart report she gave of our President and Hillary Clinton’s visit to the land of HER ancestors and what it means. I am amazed she could give the report without tearing up. I am crying it is so beautiful. I want to watch it over and over. Thank you so much Foxfire.

      There was a good diary about Hostess and what happened on TDK that goes even deeper. I was talking to a co-worker who I could obviously determine he got his information about what happened from Fox or the lazy MSM. I told him there was more to the story and that what happened to Hostess was similar to the Obama political ads of the workers who were bought by Bain (no comment from him), I told him of the workers who took numerous concessions on wages and benefits while the CEO and management gave themselves a 300% raise right bankruptcy. All he could say was, “at least they would have had a job”. Then I asked him about his son who was working for a Canadian company who was drilling holes for future oil or gas, He told me that this company started him off with a very good salary in No. Dakota, then sent him to Denver, and after they sent him to New Mexico to do work in some wells that required him to use some very dangerous chemicals, that his son asked to be sent back to Denver. When the company refused, his quit rather that get hurt. His son went back to his old job in his home state. It’s funny how when these same people KNOW of someone making a decision not to be used my a corporation and would rather quit that is just fine and makes sense but when others do it they are just being stupid and selfish.

      I did not know of the worker being paid $48K before the bankrupcies and making concessions down to $35K including paying more for their benefits. Then the greedy bosses after giving themselves a 300% raise asking them to further reduce their pay. I would have quit after the first time. When you see the handwriting on the wall it’s time to start looking for another job, getting yourself new skills for a better paying job. I recently audited a company that was aquired by a venture capital company and all I could say is, “I am so sorry”. These people just don’t know that their jobs are heading to China or India.

    What a luscious, gorgeous Rise and Shine! Thanks Chips! Good Morning everyone!

    The write-up about PBO and Hillary’s friendship is sweet. I think their relationship is one of the best developments of the past few years. They are both intensely loyal people and I know they will have each other’s backs during whatever comes in the future.

    • 53 daisydem
      November 20, 2012 at 10:35 am

      I think we can include Bill here too. I think they have formed a “best for America” friendship … that they will always work together for the good of this country, regardless of any differences they held in the past. Hillary’s passion was healthcare; President Obama has made (or is making) that happen. One of my fave pics (still on my fridge) is of the two of them in a conference room right after Healthcare Reform was passed … walking towards each other with outstretched arms and smiles on their faces. Factor in Joe and Jill Biden and of course Michelle and we have like a dinner party of highly intelligent, passionate, caring people leading this country. How fortunate are we?

    OUR ENERGIZER BUNNY PBO WON THIS ELECTION ON HIS CHARACTER AND THE FACT THAT HE TRULY LOVES ALL PEOPLE DEEP WITHIN HIS SOUL. HE HAS ENDURED THE WORST TREATMENT I HAVE EVER SEEN HANDED TO ANY PRESIDENT IN OUR HISTORY…ALL…UNJUSTIFIED. THESE ARE ALL FOOLS WHO COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY…THEY ARE SELF-CONSUMED AND ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR OWN BACKYARDS. THESE ARE ALSO EXTREMELY RACIST PEOPLE TRYING TO HIDE THEIR HATRED IN THE CLOSET…BUT, IN THE LAST 4 YEARS IT HAS CERTAINLY RISEN TO THE SURFACE. THEN THERE ARE THE REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE FOR DECADES CONSPIRED TO DESTROY THIS COUNTRY FROM WITHIN AND RULE WITH THE FILTH OF GREED AND WEALTH. GOD IS WATCHING ALL THINGS AND THERE WILL BE JUDGEMENT AGAINST THOSE WHO WISH TO ENSLAVE HUMANITY AND BRING FORTH THE SHACKLES OF BONDAGE. THAT DAY IS COMING. I WISH ALL OF YOU A WONDERFUL AND MEMORABLE THANKSGIVING…WE HAVE ALOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR INDEED. I SENT THE FIRST FAMILY A CARD FOR THE HOLIDAYS. AM FIGHTING THE FLU BUG HERE…MAY GOD DEEPLY BLESS OUR PRESIDENT REGARDLESS OF THE FOOLS THAT CURRENTLY OCCUPY THIS NATION!

    Wolfee on Hardball. Great segment with Chris Tweety Matthews. I’m still hoping to see Senator Kerry or former Senator’s Kerrey or Nagel get the Secretary of State post. That segment was very informative too.

    • 71 Nena20409
      November 20, 2012 at 11:04 am

      Chris Matthews was trying so hard to cover for McCain. Chris Matthews is the worst kind of a Liberal. In his mind, Dr. Susan Rice, Pres Obama are just there by share luck. The sad thing is that his daughter who worked for Pres Obama has yet to teach him anything. At 66 yrs old or so…..Matthews is truly an old man who refuses to adapt to the 21st Century.

    • November 20, 2012 at 11:05 am

      I just want Susan Rice to get it now, much as I respect John Kerry – I’d love to see PBO take on McCain and Co.

        November 20, 2012 at 11:09 am

        I am with You on this one. I have a feeling that pres Obama would do just that.

        He wants Amb Rice. He would get Amb Rice. Bob Woodward told TBGOPers to move on before the elections 2 weeks ago for what they were looking for wasn’t there. He then added that He, Woodward had been friends with Petraeus for 20 yrs.

      • 74 Lorraine
        November 20, 2012 at 11:20 am

        I think the American public (with the way Senator McCain has been treating President Obama during this issue) knows he is a old coot who has gotten over his 2008 loss. After Romney loss he really went off the rails. I think Amb Rice is very qualified for any position she would like to seek, I just like Senators Kerry, Kerrey and Nagel better.

      • 75 Obama Grandmama

        I followed Susan Rice during the ’08 campaign closely. She is as prepared as you can get for the SOS job. Her education is superb in that area plus her past work during the Clinton administration. John Kerry would be good but I worry about losing a Senior Senator and needing another election. Don’t need to chance any GOP getting in there.

    [Pies, pies, & that delicious B&W photo of young PBO!]:

    ‘President Obama’s avowed love for pie is now well known, and six different kinds of pie will be the extravagant finish to the First Family’s Thanksgiving feast on Thursday at the White House. According to Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses, the President’s favorite pie is Banana Cream–which will be served. But in 1980 when he was a Freshman at Occidental College in Los Angeles, the young Mr. Obama went home with his roommate Paul Carpenter for Thanksgiving dinner, and he reportedly fell in love with mom Alice Carpenter’s Coconut Chiffon Pumpkin Pie.

    /////

    “Barry,” as he was known at the time, spent the holiday with the Carpenter family in Claremont, CA, because he couldn’t afford a plane ticket to go home to Hawaii to visit his grandparents. That’s the story according to Oxy, the college’s online newssite, which has newly posted details of the President’s first college Thanksgiving, and the pre-presidential love affair with pie. Also posted is Mrs. Carpenter’s recipe, now known as “Barry’s Favorite.”

    ////

    Barry “had gracious manners and was very warm,” recalled Mrs. Carpenter. Dad Chuck Carpenter praised the young Obama as “just a wonderful young man, just a very fine young man. Polite, personable.”

    “All those memories are fond,” said Paul Carpenter, who is now a lawyer practicing in Los Angeles. “My mother loves him. He was unassuming, easygoing and good-natured. Those were fun times.”

      Some people are moving on into the future, while the dinosaurs in the Republican party continue to hurt their constituents. People need to understand that the government they vote in (or abstain from voting out) is the one they actually get. And these Republican governors weren’t born into those jobs – they were voted in.

    [Wow, it's so quiet here! Where did everyone go? Anyhoo, here's some pool report snippets of VPOTUS NJ trip, homeboy & all!! :) ]:

    “Motorcade arrived shortly after 3 p.m. Press was taken down to the PATH tracks, where various local officials including Sen. Frank Lautenberg were waiting. After a few minutes, VPOTUS arrived, greeting Mr. Lautenberg by saluting and and saying “Your holiness!”

    ////

    “The group moved upstairs to a waiting room within the terminal, where officials showed VPOTUS more pictures. Many appeared to be of devastated New Jersey Transit tracks. When shown a picture of boats and water on the tracks, VPOTUS said “Holy mackerel.” He then greeted some first responders before giving another set of brief remarks near some ferry slips.

    Details of those remarks to come. Pool is now holding in vans. A crowd had gathered behind some barriers nearby, and it appears that VPOTUS stopped to greet them, because they just let out a few loud cheers.

    /////

    “Pool has transcribed some of the Seaside Heights remarks. The heart of it was here, when he spoke about the need for federal aid to the region and described his own experience with the region, especially as a kid on the Jersey Shore.

    “If you’re not an Easterner it’s hard to understand that the ocean to us is the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park and everything else combined. It is a gigantic part of not only our economy but who we are. It’s a gigantic part of the culture as well.

    /////

    Good Morning TOD Family!

    Loving all the beautiful photos our Chips keeps posting for us. Really makes my day. The President is on his way home to his family after a successful trip to Asia. I know he’s been constantly working on this trip what with this horrible mess with Israel. SOS Hillary is on her way there and I know she’d much rather be heading home to her family. I’m praying for her and that her trip is also a success.

    Great news about Google, the Massachusetts in-state college tuition for “DREAMers” and that Eric Holder is staying on as AG.

    Oh and Happy Birthday V.P. Joe!!! Love Ya!

    By JOSH GERSTEIN | 11/20/12 11:48 AM EST
    YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — For the third time in the last 24 hours, President Barack Obama has spoken by phone with Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi in an effort to broker an end to the crisis in Israel and Gaza, the White House said.

    In the latest call, Morsi and Obama spoke for about 20 minutes as Obama returned aboard Air Force One from a trip to Asia, Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters on board the plane just after it landed for a refueling stop in Japan.

    “It was an opportunity for them to continue the discussions they’ve been having and to speak in advance of Secretary Clinton’s arrival in the region,” Rhodes said.

    The White House seemed to be going out of its way to praise the efforts that Egypt’s fledgling leader — a member of the Muslim Brotherhood — has been making in seeking to resolve the crisis. Rhodes made clear that involved primarily acting as an interlocutor with Hamas, which controls the West Bank. The U.S. considers Hamas to be a terrorist group and has no direct contact with it, Rhodes said in another briefing on Tuesday.

    [Hey Bay Area TODers, this play sounds fascinating!]: “Love Balm for My Spirit Child”

    A woman, somewhere, gave birth to each of the people killed in Oakland’s 109 homicides this year. And after the news cameras go away, and the protests die down, and the courtroom dramas wrap up—in the rare instance a killer is tried at all—those women are often left behind. They walk among us with lives forever reshaped by the violent taking of their children. “Love Balm for My Spirit Child,” a new play which debuted last week at Oakland’s Eastside Arts Alliance, explores that changed, wrenching existence.

    In 60 minutes of tightly written, vivid theater, five actors share the testimonies of six Bay Area mothers who lost their sons and grandsons to police and community violence. “Love Balm” raises elemental questions about society, and the wholesale casting away of the lives of black and brown males. What does white supremacy and a societal fear of black men, enacted through the nation’s history in the form of state-sanctioned police brutality and mass incarceration, look like to the mothers of just a handful of those men? How does a mother raise and love and lose a boy whose life society has deemed dispensable? And what does it mean to be, as the play says, “just ordinary women who dared to bring babies into the world?”

    But the play’s artistic director Arielle Brown says the project also seeks to answer a far simpler question: “How do we move through all that and continue to live and see our children in the sun?”

      I relate to this. Being a mother of two AA males and having one grandson, I am deeply saddened and concerned about the dangers that threaten them. To think, in the 21st century, that parents of AA men still have to train them to be aware of living while black is so disheartening and dispiriting.

      The one ray of hope I have is that this country re-elected PBO. That says a lot, because there were many whites who repudiated the violence and racism by casting their votes for him. I am grateful and hopeful.

        Eve, I agree that it’s a national disgrace that any mother should live in fear because of the color or her sons’ skin. Racism is the great millstone this country carries around its neck and we won’t be a truly free and great democratic nation until we cast it away from us forever. PBO’s election was a step forward, but it seemed to arouse a lot of deep-seated racism in whole of of crazy people that both scares and depresses me.

        Yup – people like the Macy’s owners don’t realize that consumers have power. And their empire can disappear in a flash – and someone else will step in to fill in the gap. There will always be someone who can perform a service like Macy’s, and they’ll value their customers and their country so much more than these idiots at Macy’s. I had stopped shopping there a while back, because they seem to have lowered their standards. I started shopping at Nordstrom and others – much better service. And now I have a reason not to go back.

    “The backlash didn’t take long. Denny’s diners, including many that aren’t owned by Metz, immediately saw a drop in sales, and were inundated with phone calls from angry customers. With other franchise owners panicking due to boycott threats, the corporate office is in damage-control mode.

    /////

    “Unfortunately, the comments of this franchisee, who represents less than 1 percent of our system and who owns restaurants in other concepts, has been portrayed as reflective of the entire Denny’s brand,” Miller added. “I am confident his perspective is not shared by the company or hundreds of franchisees/small business owners who make up the majority of the Denny’s community.”

    “For his part, Metz is in full retreat, issuing a statement denouncing the surcharge he defended last week.”

        Dudette, I have often wondered about GA and why it is overwhelmingly republican. Do you see it going purple or is it like my state (Texas) outnumbered by fools? I had huge hopes for us going purple, but it’s definitely gonna be a while now. State legislature is now super majority Repub, so we’re screwed at the State level, mostly due to gerrymandered districts. Gonna take another big influx of new blood or more young people to get out and vote even though we’re not (yet) a swing state. Numbers were down from 2008.

      Me thinks the guy in charge of PETA has a problem, period.

      • November 20, 2012 at 3:06 pm

        PETA quote-

        “Turkeys do not need to be ‘pardoned’—they are not guilty of anything other than being born into a world of prejudice. They are innocents who should be respected for who they are: good mothers, smart birds, and interesting animals,” Newkirk wrote.

        The group suggested a vegetarian alternative for Obama and his family to eat at their Thanksgiving celebration.

        “This year, we encourage you to forgo this event, which so many Americans find offensive, and choose a delicious, healthy Tofurky roast for your family’s holiday table,” she asked.

        Newkirk also compared the treatment of turkeys and other animals to the struggles of marginalized humans for dignity and self-respect.

        “You understand so well that African-Americans, women, and members of the LGBT community have been poorly served throughout history, and now I am asking you to consider other living beings who are ridiculed, belittled, and treated as if their sentience, feelings, and very natures count for nothing,” she wrote.

          Not necessary to have a “faux” turkey. We’re vegetarians, and we have a delicious platter of roasted root vegetables with fresh herbs, no- meat stuffing with dried cranberries soaked in sherry, sauteed pecans, green onions and toasted seedless rye and corn bread croutons and lovely fresh green beans and salad. No one ever goes away hungry and no creatures are killed to make the feast.

Pot smokers and alcohol drinkers who will not eat pork, but you ingest others poisons.

          This is ridiculous. Has this guy made similar statements to every other President since JFK? Or is this restriction only restricted to President Obama? If he doesn’t want to eat turkey – and we never do for holidays – then he’s free to eat whatever he wants to eat. Tofurkey, lamb, salad or water. To compare a turkey with people who have struggled for human rights throughout history is outrageous.

            November 20, 2012 at 5:09 pm

            I don’t get targeting President Obama. I still eat meat but less so, but my sympathies align with PETA. If I allow myself to think about it, really think about it, I would never eat meat again. That’s what happened to 2 of my 3 daughters. And a big chunk of our younger generation. Our Thanksgiving has turkey eaters and vegetarians and everyone does just fine, to each his own.

              November 20, 2012 at 5:14 pm

              We’re on the same page. I have a sister who is on a vegetarian kick, and her daughter doesn’t eat much meat. I’ve reduced my meat intake. I have a lot of alliance with the broader PETA causes, and think food that we eat should be treated humanely. But, I certainly wouldn’t stop people from eating at KFC or other places that don’t necessarily source their food from humane farmers. I think it’s one thing to raise awareness; quite another to try and dictate to the President some nonsense like this PETA character.

    citizens united–

    ‘ It is a constitutional doomsday machine set loose in the area of campaign finance. There is no remedy to it except to bring it down from the outside.

    Which is what Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico is trying to do. “There’s just no way around it,” he says. “There’s no way to get to transparency and disclosure as long as the decision stands. I don’t see a way around it, anyway.” Instead, Udall is the driving force to repeal Citizens United through a constitutional amendment. The amendment would give Congress the constitutional power to regulate the raising and spending of money in national elections, and it would give the states the same power to regulate spending in their elections.

    Allen West is really gross, isn’t he? And weird. I’m so glad he’s gone. I get home, turn on the teevee ——and there’s Allen saying “crap sandwich” over and over—-something about Obama giving everyone a “crap sandwich”. (clip on Bashir) So one more crazy gone, how many more to go?

    When President GW Bush was in power – did the media talk non stop about what the democrats wanted to do – I find it amazing that the talk shows are saying nothing about what the President and the democrats are doing – but they are full on about how the GOP will rebuild

      And not only that – every time I turn the TV on I hear what the Repubs position is on the budget. Did I miss something. Did we win or not, cuz the media and the Repubs certainly act as though we did not.

      hard to hear bibi talking without the echo of his secret video reminding me how he plans to manipulate us. also, is there ever going to be a day when we say, this is a reasonable time for sec clinton to step down?

    Couldn’t believe what I drove by today. A couple of odd-looking goofballs—–a man and woman—–and excuse my judgment but looking very much like they could use President Obama’s social safety net protections——had set up a big Impeach Obama display on the property right outside the post office. Big blown up posters of Obama with an X across them, a big sign that said “Impeach Obama—-fast and furiously” and a bunch of tables no doubt loaded with hate literature and a bunch of other junk. Tea party remnants? It didn’t look like their efforts were attracting any fellow crazies. People were just kind of curiously staring at the nuttiness as they drove by. Still infuriating. How can you hate that much to go to all that effort—–and in Illinois? It was like tattooing “I am an ignorant nutty nut” across your forehead.

      Someone called into Stephanie Miller’s show a yesterday (I think) and said the same thing. She was very upset by it. Seems that someone had set up an impeach President Obama table in front of the Post Office. Her name was Pam and her husband’s name is John. They call into Stephanie’s show often.

        Now please tell me what they want to impeach President Obama for? Being BLACK. I am sick of these crazy ass people like that.

      That’s the mo of Lyndon Larouche nut jobs and they’ve been doing it ever since he was elected in 2008. In Seattle, they’ll often put up one of their tables at a Trader Joe’s or in Westlake plaza. Total loons and very, very mean.

    • November 20, 2012 at 6:00 pm

      These are Lyndon LaRouch fanatics. They did the same thing when Bush was in office. Ignore them; everyone else does.

    ‘ Newark Mayor Cory Booker is set to live at least a week on food stamps after he challenged a self-described Army wife and veteran to join him in the test.

    Booker tweeted on Monday that investing in “schools, nutrition, etc” would save money in the long run instead of paying only for “huge back-end” government programs like prisons and police. ‘

    I now understand why McCain has it in for Susan Rice
    http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021857838

    Little petty folks like McCain NEVER forget an insult.

    From Susan Rices wiki page:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Rice

    “Rice went on leave from the Brookings Institution to serve as a senior foreign policy advisor to Senator Barack Obama in his 2008 presidential campaign. Rice took a disparaging view of Obama’s Republican opponent in the campaign, John McCain, calling his policies “reckless” and dismissing the Arizona Senator’s trip to Iraq as “strolling around the market in a flak jacket”

      Hi Lisa. Just popped on to say hello to my TOD family. I had the day off and I am spending it doing holiday cleaning. Only my daughter is coming home for Thanksgiving this year. My two sons are both far away and working. I am working tomorrow so I don”t have time to get everything done before Thursday. I pop on to read during breaks but don’t get time to post much.

      Hello lisa. Looks like TOD is naturally tuned in with PBO’s circadian rhythm while he’s on his trip. It’s evening – yet I see “rise & shine” :) By tomorrow, PBO will be back on US time, and so will TOD!!

    Hehehe so glad of the rise of social media : it definitely gave customers their power back.
    Here is John Schnatter, of Papa John’s Pizza, pathetic excuse of backpeddling in op-ed on Huffpo. Basically, he’s saying he was a victim of a reporter, not disclosing they were a reporter and misrepresenting what ” he meant” by being against Obamacare…TOo Little, Too late, no more Papa Johns for me ( not that I was a big fan anyway)

    What an excellent round up this is. My favorite trips are Moneygall, the UK (for his address to Parliament), Australia and Egypt, for the New Beginning speech in Cairo.

    I am proposing a draft petition for We the People:

    “Having watched the current President of the United States on the world stage since his momentous speech in Berlin and having seen a gallery at The Obama Diary of the President and the First Lady as they exude dignity and grace and good-lookingness, peacefully grant the people of the United States of America permanent status to the President and First Lady as official First Couple of the U.S. to be ambassadors representing the U.S. regardless of whomever becomes President in the future.”
