NYT: President Obama skipped dessert at a long summit meeting dinner in Cambodia on Monday to rush back to his hotel suite. It was after 11:30 p.m., and his mind was on rockets in Gaza rather than Asian diplomacy. He picked up the telephone to call the Egyptian leader who is the new wild card in his Middle East calculations.
Over the course of the next 25 minutes, he and President Mohamed Morsi of Egypt hashed through ways to end the latest eruption of violence, a conversation that would lead Mr. Obama to send Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to the region. As he and Mr. Morsi talked, Mr. Obama felt they were making a connection. Three hours later, at 2:30 in the morning, they talked again.
…. The White House phone log tells part of the tale. Mr. Obama talked with Mr. Morsi three times within 24 hours and six times over the course of several days, an unusual amount of one-on-one time for a president. Mr. Obama told aides he was impressed with the Egyptian leader’s pragmatic confidence. He sensed an engineer’s precision with surprisingly little ideology. Most important, Mr. Obama told aides that he considered Mr. Morsi a straight shooter who delivered on what he promised and did not promise what he could not deliver.

I love all of my TOD family. I really find it funny that the shows we all watch are starting to read this blog. I noticed two references last night on Maddow. Didn’t mention The Obama Diary but her ideas came from here. I would not be surprised to learn that WH staff, media, and others don’t lurk here everyday.

I appreciate the undertones I got from the article about PBO’s perception of the Egyptian president -a straightshooter. From my President that’s a compliment IMO. I sure don’t get the sense that he feels anywhere near this for Bibi (full disclosure – for whom I have no respect).
Morning all, I ‘m posting another great link to c-span review of the campaign, this time in a Politico q&a with Jim Messina. It’s long, but riveting and spot on by Messina repeating regularly that the success of the campaign is because of the President and the message and vision. People wanted to be involved because of him.
I watched that one and the one with David Plouffe. They were both great. Everyone, and I mean evereyone should watch both of them.
Berny, Just watched the entire hour. Interesting, amazing detail – loved it! Thanks Mr. Messina and enjoy Italy on a well earned month long vacation. (He said he had taken one week off in 5 years…wow.)

What does concern me is the debt Celing and the Government runs out of money in march.
And yes, unless Boner gets what he wants, he will shut down Government, and let the Debt ceiling expire. Which would result in another downgrade and a recession, not to mention the Poor will get screwed.

I read that, it is a good piece of reporting. Another big win for the President, moreover the World.
Yes it was riveting. My fondest wish would be for them to explore this relationship more and try and forge a lasting,sustainable peace for all the ME because of this first step. That would be monumental in so many ways…not just for the people of that region, but for the world. A stable, secure and peaceful ME. We can dream.
Agree, df. Given the nature of the interaction between the two of them these past several days it seems highly likely. I would not be surprised to see Mr Morsi at the WH in the near future and it could well set the stage for the President to travel to Egypt, then Israel, after th Jan 2013 Israeli elections.

And can you imagine Mittens having the diplomatic skills to pull something like this off??? NOT. Instead he would have encouraged Netanyahu to proceed with a ground invasion which would have lead to more loss of life in Gaza and incredible instability in the entire region. Part of the biggest problem here was Morsi’s inexperience as a diplomat. Thank God he had PBO to tutor him through this crisis.

You’re right, Foxfire. Romney would have gotten a kick out of a war as long as he and his family were safe. He would think that fostering a war made him “manly.” PBO doesn’t have to prove his manliness. He is the true alpha and knows that real leadership means working for peace, instead of violence.

I wonder if anyone here has noticed or can confirm what I am seeing on MSNBC since the election with Rachel and Ezra. Both of them have become much more supportive of PBO. Rachel with clear admiration and respect for our President (Oh, those adoring commercials)
and Ezra (Shockingly) with economic comments that are very far left of what he said before the election. Some of his comments seem like trial balloons that the Administration may be sending him.
Such as : You want to secure Social Security? Easy! Just remove the cap. This is the last thing 1% wants to hear. The rich would resove all issues by austerity for us and increased prosperity for them. Ezra appears to have moved from the Bloomberg View he writes for over to the good side.
Anybody else giving Ezra a second look?
I think Rachel and her Partner, must realize that the President has gone to bat for one of the Communities She cares about.
So, during the Holidays, she may be grateful for just that.

I came across an article yesterday that I had not seen previously and it is well worth the read.

He had turned a center-right country into a center-left one.”
Although I do not agree that we are yet center-left, I am optimistic that with another four years PBO will have turned this lumbering ship we call America away from the income inequality that has marked its decline these last 28 years toward a more progressive economy. And there is this:
“He had been diminished as a symbol until he had finally become a transformational politician; he had changed a people in the course of changing himself. He was still president of the United States, but he was also still Barack Obama, and right before he rushed himself offstage it was nice to see that he damned well knew it.”

I feel safe, secure, inner peace and very confident that the right man for the right time is making history for a time such as this. Those who have ears, let them hear not only what he says in his speeches, but what he does his his actions.
For this, I am grateful and very thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving TOD family. I am thankful for President Obama. I am thankful for all the voters who stood in line and refused to submit to voter suppression. I am thankful to the hard working PBO team that never gave up, the techy guys. Heck, I am thankful that the Mitt Campaign believed they were winning despite the fact they had not put in the hard work, only to have us overwhelm them with people power.

So I got some more info about this “The Action” thing. One of the guys I know who was as an OFA organizer went to DC after the campaign, came back and let me know that there will be some “action” type things going on. Like ralliies, holding a vigil, letters to the editor you know that kind of thing. They are planning a couple of things that I let as many people know about as I could so we’ll see what happens! I’ll keep you posted. If any of you know anything could you let me know too? I’m curious as to how this will go, but glad that the campaign is going to find ways of endeavoring to keep peeps active in the process.
I did the survey and indicated I want to say active and will be available for the next four years to support our President. I am so glad that they are going to keep us active for the remainder of his term. We need to keep it Pressing On.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone because we truly have a President to be thankful for. May he have an unevetful day today because he deserves alittle peace for one day but if anyone who can protect and keep the world on an even keel is PBO.
