Thanks for your willingness to share, but I’m afraid of the ‘cold’ so need to wrap up more carefully. Hi DD4O, sorry to see you’ve caught (the flip side of) GOBrooklyn’s cough. She was out of commission earlier this week too. Take good care of yourself; the cold/cough germs seem to be doing the rounds in TODville. I’m curious, can you see the tree from where you work or are you watching on TV like the rest of us?
Oopsie! I tend to refer to whatever I see on lline – like that link DD4O gave us above – as ‘televised’. My tech terminology is rarely spot-on, Hf. Sorry
No problem..I figured that’s what you meant. I’m a bit slow today please forgive me!! I guess I’m so excited to see our Pres I was hoping that it would actually be televised

When the audience members were talking about favorite holiday memories it reminded me of two. Having my driveway plowed by a horse drawn plow. Any time it snowed, I’d kneel on my brother’s bed looking out of the window waiting for Mr. Ferguson to come with the plow so I could give the horses carrots. And Christmas caroling with my Brownie troop in a horse drawn hay wagon. I’m not really that old am I?
What a lovely memory. I could see it so clearly, like something out of a Frank Capra movie.
Makes me wanna pull out the It’s a Wonderful Life video right now. Can’t though. People at work my frown on that.

That whole banter with Harris and Rodriguez was really weak, to the point of embarrassment. And I was confused by the “I’ll tell you who the mother is!” too. What in the world???

Fun times for the GOP —> GOPocalypse: A Guide to Republican Purges bit.ly/SA2hhn— The Fighting Liberal (@texyellowdogdem) December 06, 2012
A very good read.
John Boehner’s back-bencher purge. House Speaker John Boehner stripped four Republican members of sought-after assignments to two prominent committees (Budget and Financial Services), then warned the rest of the GOP caucus that “there may be more folks that will be targeted … we’re watching all your votes.” Boehner insists the four (Walter Jones of North Carolina, David Schweikert of Arizona, Tim Huelskamp of Kansas and Justin Amash of Michigan) weren’t purged for being too conservative, but rather for not being “team players.” One thing they had in common, though, was a vote against last year’s debt-ceiling deal.
Boehner’s (and Paul Ryan’s) Ryan-Plan purge. The budget plan Boehner presented to the White House—which contained $800 billion in tax increases over ten years and $1.4 trillion in spending cuts, including cuts to Social Security and Medicare—constituted, among other things, the first formal Republican acknowledgment that Paul Ryan’s House-passed budget plan is dead. Ryan himself has not been purged, however. He is participating in fiscal-cliff negotiations. Indeed, while some House conservatives say the Ryan plan will live to fight another day, there are tentative signs that Ryan himself is done with the budget proposal that brought him to national prominence. He still maintains pride of authorship, however. Amash and Huelskamp, it’s been suggested, were removed from the Budget committee at least partly on Ryan’s recommendation; they both voted against the Ryan plan this year.

The President sang “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” into that microphone for nearly the whole song.
Surely by tomorrow, there will be a recording produced of only his beautiful voice singing that song.
I hope that the audio mixer recorded his microphone on a separate track for that very reason:)

I was listening to BBC last night, and they had a Morsi spokeswoman on who was somewhat unhinged when the reporter challenged her assertion that the demonstrators were thugs from Mubarak’s regime – he told her “we cannot be expected to listen to you calling these demonstrators ‘thugs’”. She lost it. He finally calmed her down, but it’s clear that some of this seems to be tribal, now. I hope cool head can prevail.
We’re definitely on the same page tonight Dudette. HUGE LOTR and soon to be Hobbit fan. Went to NZ to do all things LOTR earlier this year. Took a look at the AskGandalf Twitter feed earlier today. How cool of Ian McKellen to be tweeting with fans. https://twitter.com/TheHobbitMovie
well of course they will, but not because boner said so. train left the station a few years ago, rethugs–so glad you could grab the back of the milk run.
Not sure but the cartoonists may want to try to get picked up in both right- and left-leaning venues, so may be an earning-a-living thing. I agree it’s not good, but happened to come upon that thought in my mind and figured I’d share it.
BTW, I think I’m in another silly mood, but I don’t know what I enjoyed more in the early part of this post … the sounds and sights and enjoyment of the Tree Lighting and the succeeding comments, or your attempts throughout to insert some politically minded tweet or piece of information back into the conversation. The juxtaposition just struck me funny. Luckily, everybody else caught up to you in your quest. (None of this may be what you were doing, but – like I said – I’m in a silly mood, and who needs a cartoon, anyway, to laugh?)
I’ve been a busy bee all day; had my regional youth services pot luck this morning, then a bunch of work waiting for me when I returned to the library.
At the potluck, as we were eating, we all shared a moment from the past year which made us glad we were children’s librarians. We all had m any, as did I, but one just happened.
Every year we have a drawing for passes to Disney on Ice. One mom whom I adore, and who has two amazing little girls, said she was praying that they’d win. They’re in a tough spot financially, and winning would pretty much be their entire Christmas. Well, she won, and she just picked up the passes with her girls. The youngest one gave me some yummy chocolate cookies, and the mother almost broke down in tears. I’m getting choked up writing this. This is why I love my job, because I get paid to make a difference in people’s lives, and get many opportunities to do so.
So, any of you youngins thinking about what to do after your undergrad degrees are done, there are few better ways to go than being a librarian—or, really, any profession which allows you to serve. I’ve become an evangelist for service. It’s the only thing which will see us through as a species.
well hopefully this will make you feel even greater today LL: My 13 year old son wants to be a…. Librarian, not kidding. Whenever someone asks him what he wants to do- he gets downright googly-eyed when he says “Librarian”. Well done with your ‘mom & her daughters’ – how awesome that they won when they most needed to.

This is a lovely evening with our First Family. Always so wonderful to see our POTUS smiling and enjoying his family. Our First Daughters are the “apple of his eye.” We are so blessed to have such an engaging First Family. POB always has the beautiful inclusive spirit about his events where the American people feel his warmth, his compassion, and his love.
Thanks so much, Chips for all that you do to make this a wonderful time of the year to celebrate the holidays for all.
I hope and continue to lift up our dear sweet ones within our TOD Family. (((((((( Many lovely hugs)))))))))))HZ
AMK! This is what drives me nuts about the U.S. political system. How can we call this a democracy when the majority party in the House of Representatives represents a minority voters while the party that received the majority votes of more than 1 million is the minority party. The situation is even much worse when it comes to the U.S. Senate. For example: 10 GOP senators from Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Idaho, can organize to vote against the interests of California, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts despite the fact that the 10 GOP senators from these GOP states represent a total population that is less than 10% of the total population represented by the 8 U.S. Senators from California, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Right now, the the houses of the U.S. Congress, the Senate (with its filibuster rules) and the House (because of gerrymandering), are being dominated by members who represent a minority of Americans.
ho ho ho
Tally!
Congrats!
thanks babe!
Tally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTT!!!
And my boys get to see our POTUS ONE MORE TIME!!!

Yeah but…Obama hates Christmas trees. He won’t even have one in the White House!
huff, blerf, dern
Of course not, he’s a socialist, kenyan muslim. They hate Christmas!
Yeah! The war on X mas!
Ho! Ho! Ho! to you, Tally, what shall I wear for this occasion? I’m running a little behind.
A Beckham jersey?
Good idea, coupled with some Beckham underwear, preferably in red of course to celebrate the season! Dang! Now why hadn’t I thought of that? I hesitate to say mine hasn’t arrived yet so I need to borrow ONE of yours. What say you?
I have a Beckham t-shirt that LOOKS like a jersey….. I do have a DUNIVANT Jersey (thrown by player), and a MAGEE keeper jersey that Jersey Elf made happen last Xmas. The Becks Tee is tight and cute. That’s my suggestion.
Tally, I have to tell you just picturing myself in any of these get-ups gave me a really good laugh, especially the tight and cute one.
Thanks for your willingness to share, but I’m afraid of the ‘cold’ so need to wrap up more carefully. Maybe if they win again next year, for the 2012 Christmas Tree lighting I’ll screw up my courage and parade in one of their jerseys all decked with garlands and lights to keep me warm.
AWESOME!!!!
Well, if we can’t have snow for this thread, when can we?
Done! It’s blizzarding Japa!!
No….no….no. Enough snow. It makes me dizzy and want to throw up. I mean serious hurling.
Your wish is Chips command!
Do you think they will have it on TV?
Yes, not live though. PBS has a schedule depending on where you live – I posted it on the previous thread
SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now back to our regularly scheduled programme
Jim DeMint’s chosen successor, Tim Scott, is a 47 year old “confirmed bachelor”. He and Senator Lindsey should get along well.
When is Demint leaving? I want to sent him a good bye gift. That bitch McConnell is next. Excuse me, I meant to say that Mitch McConnell .
In January. The SC governor will apoint a replacement until an election to replace him in 2014.
He’s leaving to run The Heritage Foundation. So it’s not like he’s going quietly off into the night. He’s just going straight to the money.
Tim Scott, who is he? Never heard of him.
He is a Congressman from the Charleston area. He beat Strom Thurman’s son in a primary in 2010. He and Allen West are the only two Republican AA’s in the current Congress.
I’ve seen him in committee and on the House floor. He comes across as an unflinching cold-blooded killer. I’m not kidding.
His net worth is only $45,000 or so, and it has been estimated he will make over $ 1 million a year at Heritage.
“confirmed bachelor” — ha ha!

I”m laughing out loud! I’m certain there are lots in the TOD family who have never even seen what I’m talking about – let alone done them!
Nice band! I’m really liking the music.
Indeed.
hear hear! But I hope POTUS and FLOTUS show up soon. I’ve got things to do!
When will PBO & First Family arrive?
Kenny Babyface is on now.
Can’t they fine someway to have this inside?

I love Christmas time at the White House.
Simply love it:)

Me too
Specially with the Obama family in the White House.
First Family’s coming out!!!
Here they come – Our First Family!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who teared up when the audience stood up for the First Family ?~ I’m betting not.
Harrrumph! I missed that!
Don’t feel bad dudette. I missed it too. We can both see it when it comes out on PBS two weeks from now…
I know. But I already have to wait two weeks the see the Kennedy Center Honors. Why do they keep making us WAIT for everything? This is 2012 — we have the technology to gratify people immediately.
I agree. Since we are bitter, let’s give Miss Ann a call so we can commiserate over some tea.
I’ll let you have that honor. My stomach couldn’t handle it.
not.

Yep, I see it’s already been lit. DANG!
Oh well, Ledisi’s on. I LOVE HER! That’s some consolation!
Boy she has a voice on her.
Yep, she’s great! I have a couple of her CDs and have seen her in concert.
If she comes to your town, GO SEE HER! She will blow your socks off!
I missed the lighting – I guess so many people were tuned in all at the same time and it crashed the servers and froze the feeds.
So sorry you missed the tree lighting hopefruit2.
Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family. What a doll.
Oh cool. Rico Rodriguez sitting with First Family in audience, riffing with Neil Patrick Harris on stage. Says President invited him to go with family to Hawaii for Christmas vacation! Sooo cute!
In the spirit of Xmas
If it’s that easy, I want to sign-up as First Big Sister to Michelle!
OMG his voice is SOoooo sexy!
Not that is a SWEET spot.
How rude to criticize POTUS at this event. Who is that jerk?
What happened? Missed that.
He asked the President if he had been naughty or nice. POTUS must have said “nice” and the singer said he wasn’t sure, that he needed to golf more with Boehner and bridge the divide. (Rough recounting of the interaction.) What an absolute idiot.
I want to know who that idiot is too. Hardly the occasion for political criticism. What a complete jerk.
And you know that’s what the MSM “news” will focus on when they report this event.
Bet you’re right, HF…sad and lame.
Does one really need to touch oneself while singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”? Oddest phenomenon of all time. Don’t get it.
LOL! Some people must touch themselves often.
Ugh/LOL! I’m glad I didn’t see that.
Here’s come another TOD blizzard

I share your pan. I too am so distraught. The people were removed and locked out of the state capitol. This is a sad day for our state.
NPH just yelled out “I’ll tell you who the mother is” — WTH?
I didn’t get it either. Anyone?
That whole banter with Harris and Rodriguez was really weak, to the point of embarrassment. And I was confused by the “I’ll tell you who the mother is!” too. What in the world???
They might want to cut that segment before it airs on the teevee. Yikes.
That’s from his show “How I Met Your Mother.”
agreed. not nice.
It’s from his show “How I Met Your Mother.”
I’ve never seen that show. Would love to know the story behind that one. Please explain.
Maybe someone was asking (heckling) who the mother of his child is. (He and his husband have an adopted son/daughter.)
RUDE.
What is that young lady wearing who is singing Silver Bell?
Colby Caillat.
Colbie.
Cold as it is, she could have dress better.
Her legs must be freezing.
hopefruit2, I was just concern about her freezing. But she sounds okay.
plus, my husband was wondering if there are panties under there, because she’s up on a stage…
not what we’re supposed to be thinking about, dear!
hubby’s a bad boy susanne (you lucky girl)
42 degrees F in DC currently
Love my cowboy hat-wearing Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar!
I had the exact same thought Dudette9t9.
Colbert, a native of SC, says he would be open to replacing DeMint. I hope he milks this.
I adore the friendship, closeness, and respect between Pres. Obama and Sec. Ken Salazar.
+100000000000
What meta said!
I just noticed the snow is back on the site. Thanks Chipsticks!
“In [the President], I know a heart that illuminates the example of Christ… ” — Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior
Love that!
salazar was wonderful.
Oh, my. How beautiful.
PBO at the podium!!
i love that the navy band played the tune from ‘the nutcracker’ as he walked up!! haha! he’s cracking some for sure!
Hay Fox did you hear them talk about talk about Christ, talk about Christmas. Now who has a war on Christmas.
Then they’ll just switch to the “dems think he’s the messiah” meme – see snip above from Secretary Salazar’s intro of the President
I love when my President weaves personal stories of ordinary folks in his remarks/speeches.
me too hf.. it shows his heart.
Yeah, he was spot on! as always…
Wooot! Sweet Baby James on the stage!!
My guy James Taylor is singing.
Taylor did all he could to help re-elect POTUS.
He did an outstanding job!!
This show has been wonderful.. beautiful First Family, loved Ken Salazar’s speech & POTUS of course! But all the singing has been so lovely, anyway best Tree Lighting I’ve seen thus far. And wow Sweet Baby James still has the goods, doesn’t he?
THIS!!
Hey, Take 6 is there! COOOOOL!!!!
Justin Amash – it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. He’s an Ayn Randy guy, just like Ryan
Aaaww, a hugging line! Wish I was there!
Choir singers are like “but I wanted a hug Mr. President… please, can I have one?”
POTUS is SINGING!!!!!!!
The President sang “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” into that microphone for nearly the whole song.
Surely by tomorrow, there will be a recording produced of only his beautiful voice singing that song.
I hope that the audio mixer recorded his microphone on a separate track for that very reason:)
Obama/Biden 4 more years!!
Can anybody tell who that is in the Santa suit?
Jack Lew maybe?
Maybe John Boehner???
I was thinking Uncle Mitch but you beat me to it. Maybe Gov Christie?
Maybe Newton Leroy???
Gag.
Santa-kini….
Stop it.
Frankly I don’t think any of those Republicans you guys name have the ‘warmth’ needed to even be pretend Santas.
I agree with you vc2.
Did the director call in sick?
That was simply beautiful, The Pres is so cool
A enjoyable program tonight. I just might watch it again when it comes on PBS. I bet the First Family is ready to get back in that warm White House.
Baby Face……and the President is singing
I loved this show! Thanks Chips, and TOD
Will watch it again when PBS airs it.
And hopefully hopefruit2,you will see the tree lighting.
YES!
Lovely! Thanks, Chips!
Maybe Boehner losing the speaker gravel. I sure won’t cry if he does. John Boehner is the worse, I said worse Speaker ever.
Options? Cantor? No thanks!
Yes I know that weasel Eric Cantor is no better than Boehner.
All we need to do is flip 17 Rs in January and it’ll be Speaker Pelosi. I think that is achievable for many reasons as noted in previous posts.
Back in a while
Our lovely First Family.
So smart to grab some pics while the show was happening, Chips! You ROCK!!
Swoon alert! Orlando Bloom returns as Legolas in the Hobbit trilogy:
http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/first-look-at-orlando-bloom-and-luke-evans-in-the-hobbit-there-and-back-again/
I don’t know this guy Luke Evans but he’s kinda hunky too!
Neat! Thanks for the heads up Susan!
I’m green with envy over your NZ trip. Always wanted to go there. Bucket list item.
Huge LOTR fan also. Can’t wait to see The Hobbit. Love that damn elf Legolas!
well of course they will, but not because boner said so. train left the station a few years ago, rethugs–so glad you could grab the back of the milk run.
Wow. Just wow. All this sturm und drang for such a wimpish exit.
Thanks amk – will follow them.
Was looking at cagle cartoons site. Most of the toons are about bothsidesdoitism or right wing memes. Last visit to that site.
Raining down hard on the parades is my thingy.
Ha! Somebody has to do it, eh?
Good West Coast afternoon all!
Lovely LL! You are a treasure.
Hear, hear!!
Lovely! I can definitely sense the Christmas spirit.
LL, you are so special. Thanks for sharing this lovely comment.HZ
well hopefully this will make you feel even greater today LL: My 13 year old son wants to be a…. Librarian, not kidding. Whenever someone asks him what he wants to do- he gets downright googly-eyed when he says “Librarian”. Well done with your ‘mom & her daughters’ – how awesome that they won when they most needed to.
He won’t regret it! It’s a wonderful profession.
I will definitely pass that on to him, I’ve told him about you too
Hey blog tyrant. New thread, new thread, new thread.
Something tells me that she’s in the process of preparing a fresh thread for us.
Stop yer yammering and come on over to the nice fresh thread already slowpoke!
Off-topic: Got some time to kill?
How about donating rice to the World Food Programme, by simply testing/improving your own vocabulary.
For every correct word – 10 grains of rice are donated; 5 correct words – 50 grains, and so on. The words get more difficult, the more you play.

I warn you — it’s addictive! You can test yourself on other subjects as well.
oh it is addictive alright.. I used to do it everyday & then with all the politics I literally forgot about it- so thank YOU dudette for the link and the reminder
Ron Christie is having a conniption on Twitter about Rev Al’s “millions of unpaid Federal taxes” yet nary a peep from him about Romney’s undisclosed tax returns, and offshore accounts. His Twitter handle is @Ron_Christie.
Ron Christie is a lost cause.
Show Rev Al what he is saying about him, and tell him to not allow him in his show!
Rev Al probably knows (and doesn’t care) because Christie’s drivel is all over Twitter.
I can’t even stand to look at that Ron Christie guy.
Please tell Ron Christie that Rev Al is a private citizen. I have heard that Rev Al is working with the IRS on it.
I tweeted this and he blocked me. I’m done with this fool.
Chat away, back soon:
