President Obama walks to the Oval Office upon his return from a trip to Michigan, December 10

Hiya everyone, sorry for the lack of updates today, work has been marginally bonkers
Hopefully it’ll debonkers itself soon.
Will try to catch up properly tomorrow.
So, how are ya all doing?

I love that photo
Congrats! Me, too!
Thanks
I’d better get my tushie in here before I end up in 44th place… Actually 44th is not a bad spot is it?
No not at all!
It’s been a while since I could comment.
Congrats Proud!
Oh I so wanted to be first on my birthday! Well done proud! I fumbled on the iPhone tiny keyboard.. I’m not sad..!
Happy Birthday Pamela. Well, you and Proud are tied for 1st
TY, bobfr. You know even if the time stamp is the same, First name up is First, no arguments, it’s all in good fun!
*~*~*~*~*~Happy Birthday to you, Pamela!!!!!!!!*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Thank you pj, it is a happy birthday!
Yeah, Happy, happy! Are the walls still up and furniture in one piece?
Seems so far, yes… But we have not opened amk’s bottle of designer beer yet… Oh my!
The nite is still young, eh?
Younger than I am, cap’t!
Suck it up youngster!
Happy Birthday Pamela1
I’m late to the party. Happy birthday, Pamela!!!
Thanks JO’B!
Happy Birthday Pamela!!
Thank you, thank you!
Happy Birthday to you, Pamela. Good fortune to you.
Happy Birthday, Pamela:) Many more!!
Pamela, I hope your birthday jubilee continues to be fun. Enjoy every moment of this day and then grant yourself a “day after my birthday” time of special pampering and treats.
Ooh, I like the sound of that, I hope I can work that out tomorrow!
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday, Pamela!!
I hope I’m not too late to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAMELA!!!!!!!!
Hi Proud and Pamela. I love that photo as well. It looks like POB is singing as he walks to his office. Love our POTUS. HZ
He surely is singing Happy Birthday Dear Pamela! Right?
Okay, I really, really like this but cannot decipher all the words after listening 1000 times. Anyone wants to help I’d be truly, truly grateful. Here’s what I think I’ve got so far…
Bon anniversaire, les voeux les plus sinceres
Que (ces?) quelques fleurs vous apportent le bonheur
Que l’annee entiere vous soit .. ……
Et que leur ….nous soyons tous reunir
Vous chantez encore
Bon anniversaire
Yes, he is, Pamela. You deserve to hear that beautiul baritone voice of your President.HZ
(It’s for you too Proud, even though I don’t think it’s your birthday?!)
Is it? Hey Proud! You and Me!
Just to be clear, Pamela:
Contrary to some scrurrilous and unfounded accusations on the previous thread (albeit now recanted), I have not today nor have I ever eaten any of your birthday cake. Pinky swear!
I wouldn’t do that without your permission. Although, it looks quite delish. So if you’d care to share a slice or three, I’d love to help you scarf it down.
UhOh, what have I missed? Do I need to go back for some damage control?
It’s a traumatic episode. I really can’t bear to relive it. It’s just too painful.
I went back and took a wee stroll, didn’t see too much spilt, but maybe I have missed something, such as I have missed THANKING SO MANY TODObots for the best and dearest b’da wishes! (I could have copied and pasted Fred’s beautiful list of names, but that felt too small to be doing on my best day!) So, thank you everyone, I will be riding aloft on all the good vibes for a very long time!
Many Happy Returns of the Day, Pamela!
Thank you, maryl1!
Hey Admiral. Where’s the damn snow?
Ooooops, turning it on right now Yardarm!
TYVM!
You know, Ms Chips, you really shouldn’t play a Mika when some folks around here use a certain tone. It feeds….hm… something and encourages ….ahm…something. Just saying
Damn PBO seems to be enjoying this birthday party even more than the birthday ladies!
Now that I think of it, and my memory is even clearer…he was the last person I saw around Pamela’s cake. I went down on bended knee and pleaded with him to save a piece for dudette, vc and others, but to no avail!
Well, if it was PBO, why is there any discussion, he can have all the cake he would like, Chipsticks will just bake another! In her spare time. When she has a few minutes and nothing to do. With one eye closed and one hand tied behind her back. In her sleep. On the wing. Ummm… Right Chips?
I agree Pamela. If it were my birthday, PBO could have as much cake as he pleases. And our good Chips would simply bake more cakes!
Quite simply so.
Happy Birthday Pamela. I hope you had a wonderful day filled with love and laughter.
Yes, I am! Thanks nath!
Great picture!
Proud and Pamela tie! I should’ve known!
Hi dudette, thanks for the music. I love your choices.((((((( Lots of hugs))))))).
It today Pamela’s birthday?HZ
Glad you liked it Pamela! {{{hugging ya right back}}}
Yes, HZ my dear, I am all of 62 today ~ was born on my parents 12th wedding anniversary! In a snowstorm on a Sunday in Bethesda Naval Hospital! How ’bout that!
A Navy brat?
Hiya Sailor! Glad to see you! You got here just in time. I’m ’bout to head out. The folks might need the occasional music interlude to keep things popping. Would you mind doing the honors?
I’ll try but you might miss some.
Absolutement! Chief Petty Officer, with the OSS, then Dad was recruited into the foundational level of that other place, you know, the one we do not name, and shall remain unmentioned! Okay.
That’s 4, Oh and squared away. My kinda folks.
Hey you, it’s snowing again!!
I see. I’ve responded down thread too.
You’re practically a baby compared to me. I’ve got four years on ya, part of the original baby boomer crowd after WWII (The Big One). There were so many babies in the hospital the day I was born, my Mother was assigned a maternity bed in the hallway. Luckily, I’ve had a pretty good life, having started in a hallway.
Pamela, I will get another glass of wine and drink to you. We are in great company. Sixties are beautiful numbers indeed. Enjoy it, my dear beautiful friend. I am heading downstairs to get another glass to drink to you. Enjoy it all.HZ
Glad you liked it HZ! Whooo… I’m so sleepy! {{{boat loads of hugs]]]
Thank you Chips! You take care of the work, we’ll keep the light on for ya!
Ah, you’re a sweetheart Dudette!!!
Right backatcha!
/whisper/ Does this mean you are planning a party, Dudette?
I kinda meant that metaphorically, vc. Sistah’s kinda whipped today, so it’ll be an early evening (by my standards).
But we do need a litte something for the occasion… how about a little chillin’ music?
Lets keep it goin’.
OMG, major flashbacks!!
Dudette, you are amazing! My turntable finally gave out a couple of years ago. But this War album was one of my favorite one my LP’s that I played all the time. I absolutely know nothing about posting links to songs. But since you and Yardarm are so versatile, may be one day one of you can share some of Donny Hathaway’s and Curtis Mayfield’s music.
So good to see the President making his case once again. I hope he will keep doing this no matter how much the Republicans complain. He is by far the best messenger.
I loved seeing him, too. I’m feeling so “nasty” about the Republicans, that I hope he keeps doing this BECAUSE they complain. Gives me a kick. Plus, he loves being with We The People, you can always tell.
“Plus, he loves being with We The People, you can always tell.”
You are absolutely spot-on Jacquelineoboomer! This is what drives the belt-way media insane! The President would rather be hanging out with factory workers in Detroit instead of rubbing shoulders with media pundits and politicians at Washington’s cocktail parties.
Like the President I love all sports. So if, for example, any one asked me who I would like to have a beer with while watching a football game: Chris Matthews, George Will, David Gregory, Chuck Todd, Ron Christie, Ezra Klein, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell, John McCain. Lindsey Graham, Jim DeMint, Bernie Sanders or President Obama? My answer would be, without any hesitation, President Obama, of course. I am absolutely certain that most regular people who love sports would agree with me. There is absolutely nothing aloof about President Obama. He genuinely loves being with real, down-to-earth people. Obviously, President Obama doesn’t enjoy being around phony, pretentious and self-important people; although whenever he is with them, he still treats them with respect. I don’t blame him for not wanting to spend all his time with Washington’s self-important people.
great picture, Chips
I love Christmas at the White HOuse.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happy, Birthday Pamela~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You are so special, and I hope that your day has been a very special one also.HZ
(((((((((((((((((( Lots of (Birthday Hugs)))))))))))))))))
{{{{{{{{Love ya’ back HZ}}}}}}}
The “Baracking” good N Yr was guaranteed on Nov. 6. I still contemplate a Romney win and get damn near the shakes from the thought of it. I mean really, think about it. No, don’t think about it.
No apologies are ever necessary. How you do what you do everyday Chips is amazing. That this site is so full and such a joy to so many is really a strong testament to your dedication to the cause.
Crushing the #InaugurationInsurgency …. with House Ds receiving more than 1 million votes than the Rs on 6 Nov 2012 it would seem that finding 17 Rs to flip in Jan might be tactically tractable and coupled with filibuster reform in the Senate would be a worthwhile strategic objective to ending the reign of harm caused to American by the GOP since 20 Jan 2009 (and before).
#FORWARD
Bobfr, once again you are so good at going to heart of the matter. This should be repeated over and over again: Democrats in the U.S. House of Representative received 1 million more votes than the Republicans. Republicans were able to maintain control of the House of Representatives not because they represent the majority of Americans but because of the 2010 gerrymandering of Congressional districts. But, in terms of raw votes, the majority of Americans voted for the Democrats. On top of that, President Obama received over 4.7 million more popular votes than the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney. Democrats, and all of us who support them, must hammer hard about the necessity of ending the reign of terror inflicted on the American people by the right wing GOP party which does not represent the majority of Americans.
Thank you Bob for being upfront in communicating Truth to the American people who have a chance to read your tweets.
Did I miss Ms Chips again? This is getting to be a fun game – try to catch a hold of
the hem ofMs Chip’sgarmenthand as she breezes through. /shouting after her back/ We are all fine, Ms Chips! NICE TO AL—MOST SEE YOUUUUU!Helloooooooooooooooooooo VC!!!!
Oooooo! She heard my cry!
Hi Sweets, you sure have been on the go lately.
Don’t forget to pause for a couple of extra breaths in between the mad rush.
VC, my problem is I don’t move fast enough – I’ve known for two weeks I have a monster work deadline tomorrow. Do you think I did anything about it? Huh.
I’m the same way Chips. I just call it my “I-work-best-under-pressure” excuse!
Oh, that’s my line too Dudette …. but this time, well, I think I’ve left it all a little close to the deadline
Everytime I pull an all-nighter for work, I swear I’m never doing it again.
‘Every time ……I swear I’m never doing it again.’
Until the next time! It would seem we are three of a kind! Although I confess I got a wee bit better as I really aged (primarily because I discovered that I really couldn’t stay awake all through the night any more. I had to sleep for at least an hour or two before continuing.) Well Chips, if knowing my thoughts are with you while you are sweating through the night helps, ‘my thoughts are with you’.
{{{{{VC}}}}}
Pamela, did Amk give you my hugs earlier this morning? He was supposed to do so as I was rushing out to work.
My President is looking great and has that extra spring in his swag. I’m so glad he is calling out this “right to work” b.s. So many unpatriotic, economic vultures everywhere and they are incredibly bold — no positive vision, no understanding of growth or investment, just destruction and greed. The people need to pay attention and take their state legislatures, schools, and workplaces back.
I hope POTUS, FLOTUS and the girls will be able to go on their Christmas vacation together.
The image of the president and his party today
After handily clinching reelection, President Barack Obama’s personal popularity and job performance ratings have rebounded, with 52 percent of voters holding a favorable impression of him and half of voters approving of the job he is doing. Obama also earns net-approval ratings on his handling of marriage equality (+6 approve), working with Congress (+5), Medicare (+4) and taxes (+1). Many in the president’s inner circle, including Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are also held in high regard by voters. Their collective popularity should aid in the implementation of the president’s agenda, especially when contrasted with House Speaker John Boehner’s image. Among voters who know Boehner, he is viewed unfavorably (29 percent favorable to 34 percent unfavorable). Moreover, Democrats have a 3-point lead on the generic congressional ballot.
Voters are once again displaying their resistance to the warmed-over, trickle-down economic theories peddled by Republicans in Congress. In fact, a 58 percent majority believes that raising taxes on households earning over $250,000 annually will not hurt the economy, including nearly half of all voters (48 percent) who feel this way strongly. This sentiment is shared virtually across the board, traversing gender, generational, racial and educational lines. The only skeptics are ideological conservatives, self-identified Republicans and members of the tea party movement, and even these groups have substantial pools of defectors.
However, Democrats do have a very real messaging battle on their hands as the GOP attempts to mischaracterize tax increases on the wealthy and large corporations as attacks on small business. Voters oppose raising the taxes of small businesses earning over $250,000 a year by 40 percentage points (29 percent favor to 69 percent oppose). Identifying, rebutting and moving past this attempted subterfuge is critical because Democrats need to be champions of small business.
For a gopolitico piece, it’s really good. Not because, it praises the dems. It speaks truth for a change.
I hold them 100% responsible.
((((((((((((((((((((((((((( To My Chips)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) You give us so much. We will Never complain. Never, Never. We love you for making this the most precious, gracious, joyful, and intelligent haven on the planet. (((((((((((((((((( I love you, Ms. Chips)))))))))))))))))))HZ
+1000!
Hellooooooooooo HZ, thank you for the lovely message, hope you’re keeping well?
You are so welcome, my special angel. Yes, I am doing fine. Much to be grateful for especially here with my TOD family. Thanks love. You are so special.HZ
Good evening TOD friends. Hope all is well.
I bet Michelle and the girls are very happy to see him when he comes home from his travels. I know that he is glad to see them too!
And Bo too!
The minister dies and the congregation decides, after some time, that his widow, should marry again. Since it is a small village the only available candidate is the local butcher. Although very reluctantly, since she was used to living with a bible scholar, she accepts.
After the marriage, on Friday night just after taking a bath – the new husband tells his wife, “Look, my mother always said that before the beginning of the weekend it was a blessing to have sex.”
They do it and then on Saturday he tells her, “According to my father it is a blessing to have sex during the day before the Sabbath.
There they go again and when it is time to go to sleep he tells her, “My grandfather told me that one should always have sex on Sabbath night.”
Finally they go to sleep and when they wake up the next morning he tells her, “My aunt says that a Christian man always starts the Sabbath by having sex. So lets do it.”
Finally on Monday she goes out to the market and meets a friend that asks her, “So how is the new husband?”
“Well, an intellectual he isn’t, but he comes from a wonderful family.”
Like a minister’s wife she was being modest. She could have told her friend that her new husband comes from a strong family with tremendous endurance. Three days of non-stop sex requires stamina and strong genes.
What’s a perfect breakfast for a woman?
She’s sitting at the table with her gourmet coffee.
Her son is on the cover of the Wheaties box.
Her daughter is on the cover of Business Week.
Her boyfriend is on the cover of Playgirl.
And her husband is on the back of the milk carton.
“And her husband is on the back of the milk carton.”
The husband said he wanted more space.
So the wifey locked him outside.
wimmin/smh
So, was the milk carton pic accompanied by words: “Missing Husband?”
S/ b weeks. Jeesh.
Dont know if you guys have been following the Right-to-work ordeal but this seems like a big development tonight that might put things on pause. Welcome Lovely Plains, good to have you here. If you’re a PBO supporter and mannerly you’re more than welcome to stay!!!
Yes, I like that!
See? I can be original.
The one and flipping only.
Heh, I coined one the other day…you know? the other one?
Amk, you coin the absolutely, totally, completely unique every day.
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit, Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
Have you been drinking port again, Amk?
Angie Stone is awesome.
The perils or 2010 midterms R’s gained statehouses and controlled redistricting. House D cands won 51% of vote by 1.1 million votes, took 46% of seats. In 40 yrs, only 1 other time, 96, did maj party get House minority nyti.ms/SShADz
Peace!
You are so special! You bring so much life and joy to this site! Rest well and sweet dreams.
LOL. Sadist.
HAW HAW HAW HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol. “hmm i see, i gotta squint real hard” responds the president.
I’m just now catching up on Romney’s disastrous appearance at the fight on Saturday night — hilarious and tragic at the same time. That’s Weird Willard for you!
http://www.alternet.org/4-secrets-republicans-are-keeping-about-medicare-convince-us-600-billion-cuts-are-necessary
Yes, He is home. Thank you Lord, Please protect him. He is one of yours. He is a great man!
Just heard on our local news that our governor (R) has decided to not do the health exchanges and to let the federal government do it. Of course, all the Rs are thrilled. I’m betting one that isn’t though is Bill Frist. He has been quite supportive of Obamacare. That may be a bit surprising to some, but I’m guessing one reason is that he is a doctor.
Also, we went to see Lincoln this afternoon. Wonderful movie! Loved it.
Haslam does not have the backbone to fight the teaparty republicans. That is why he decided against it. I don’t appreciate him saying it was a business decision.
Agree totally, symmetry. Wimp!
The more baffling choice of these gov’s is not to participate in the Medicaid expansion. They claim to be budget hawks yet they make choices that would adversely affect the bottom line. This would save them so much money by taking people of expensive state run plans! http://www.kff.org/healthreform/upload/8149_ES.pdf
what’s funny about this is, these rethug govs would have spit nails if pbo had proposed the feds set up the exchanges. keep the feds out of our state, they would have screamed. now they’re inviting the federal government to design health care delivery for their state. just imagine how pbo and his advisors are grinning over this!
So here comes the much
wantedvaunted public option?Yes Indeed! This would not have been accomplished if people had gone along with the “firebaggers” and the other naive progressives who were clamoring to “Kill the (Obama Care) Bill.”
What these R Governors are doing is accelerating Medicare as an option for every person in their State, irrespective of age.
SHHHHHHHHH! Don’t tell them:)
Got this from another blog, but geez Chips…this could be your motto, too!
This is my house, and I make the rules. Guests who pee on the rug or smash the furniture won’t be invited back. No trolls allowed.
That is stupendous DF!!!!!!!
what about those who pee in the pool?
You have to ask?
No pissing ANYWHERE!
These people are ridiculous. Have you guys ever seen this before? More than 4 years before another presidential election and all people can talk about is Hillary this and Hillary that? I mean seriously, do I have to listen to this bull for the next 4 years? The press is so stupid. They don’t realize Hillary is an old school politician and politics has changed because of Barack Obama. If Hillary realistically hopes to win even a bake off contest, she’ll need Barack Obama, his political strategy and his loyalists: The people who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for him because they love and believed in him., especially in light of the damage Citizen United can and will do. Fricking press and their fantasies.
ugh. Shouldn’t have woken up and turned on my tv.
Ps-hello everybody. Hope y’all are doing okay. Also, thanks Chips. I’ve been lurking and the pics have been awesome!
I’ve been mainly lurking today too Lisa! Great to hear from you, hope all’s good.
It’s been really good, Chips! I’m on an extended weekend. First Monday ever where I’m not in class or working! I go back to work on Wednesday! Loving it!!!
spending my time catching up on reading, lurking here, and blazing through episodes of ‘Castle.’
Oooooh, sounds blissful!!! Make the VERY most of tomorrow!!
Thanks, Chips! Will do.
It’s taking the snow a long time to get to the bottom of the thread, eh.
wine/wine/wine
Stay in your lane matey!
I was just offering you some of calif’s best, mate.
Yes/Yes/Yes
Can someone tell me why Robert Reich continue to say that PBO need to pivot toward jobs. He said it again tonight. What is he watching? PBO has been talking about jobs every since he was sworn in office. What does Reich think the economy is about?
Robert Reich loves to hear himself talk! And so do many of the so called smart pundits. I am absolutely convinced that none of these pundits ever take time to listen to what President Obama and Vice President Biden say. Just today, in Detroit, Michigan, the President talked about investing in Job creation with emphasis on attracting manufacturing jobs back to America. He also also talked about investing in infrastructure jobs, training workers for skilled and well paying jobs, and investing in research and development. Unlike t.v pundits like Reich, the President is not one track minded when it comes to the economy. He talks about both Job creation, tax reforms and reducing the deficits. This is what he aptly calls a balanced approach.
Unlike Robert Reich who has no one to hold him accountable, President Obama has to take into consideration not only the 65.7 millions who voted for him but also the 61+ million who voted against him. You would think that a supposedly smart man like Professor Reich would know about the complexity of how a divided government functions. To presume that a President, who faces one House of Congress dominated by the opposition, and another House where the minority still retain substantial power to block legislation through the filibuster, can somehow dictate everything, without some compromise, is either utter naivety or willful deception to earn the accolades of the so called progressives.
???
Is there any way to tell them .. to shout it from the rooftops … we are not campaigning right now. We don’t care who might, will, wants to run in 2016; we have work to do right now and our President is Barack Obama; he won a second term, he is already busy with the fiscal issue, high-speed rail, immigration – issue we need to deal with. We are not looking for a candidate at this time for 2016; we are getting behind our candidate, winner, President of 2008/2012 to deal with real issues in this country and to rebuild it and progress it. So if you do not have anything to add to this discourse, then STFU! NOW!
THIS! Petty bastards.
Thank you.
Yep, loud and clear , snuff of the BS. There’s work to be done yet. Sound bites? Idiots.
The so called mainstream media are, in my humble opinion, increasingly irrelevant. I hope both Hillary and Bill don’t naively fall for their newly found popularity with the GOP and the mainstream media. Most of the people who are now in love with Bill and Hillary Clinton are practically the same people who orchestrated his impeachment. It’s true that they failed to remove him from office, but the fact remains that he is one of the three Presidents (along with Andrew Johnson and Richard Nixon) who, among the 44 presidents, faced impeachment by the House of Representatives. Richard Nixon resigned before the full House of Representative impeached him. So that leaves Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton as the only two Presidents in the history of the United States who were impeached by the House of Representatives. They both were able to remain in office because, in the U.S. Senate, the vote for conviction and removal from office fell below the 2/3rd Constitutional requirement. Nevertheless, 50 Republican Senators, including people like John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Orin Hatch and others, voted to convict Bill Clinton and remove him from office. If I am not mistaken, Lindsay Graham was one of the house prosecutors who argued the case before the U.S. Senate calling for the conviction of Bill Clinton for “High Crimes….” and removing him from office. In the House, both former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and the current House Speaker, John Boehner voted to impeach Bill Clinton. Of course the Clinton impeachment was aided by many in the media including people like Chris Matthews. So, If I were the Clintons I would not take seriously the praise coming from Republicans and media people, like Chris Matthews.
I am going to have to take this to my nail tech. She is reat with designs, know that she can do something special for me.
A whole lotta foolishness going on on cable TV this week. First Ed Schultz freaking out about nothing; then Lawrence talking bull about Newt Gingrich being most influential politician in last 30 yrs. Spare us all…cable needs to go on a vacation.
And..oh yeah I forgot..the 2016 Hillary nonsense which is now a daily feature on cable tv.
All this chatter will wear people out, like it does us. Nobody but them cares about the 2016 election now. They are talking in a giant circle and to themselves. They are themselves not accepting of the changes in the American electorate. Four years from now Hillary will be 69 years old. She is not going to appeal to the young and necessary demographic. They are blathering out of nostalgia, not wisdom.
So very true. All of it.
@@@@@@@@@@Happy Birthday Pamela@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Thanks pf, seems about to wrap!
Hey, new post:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/12/10/a-little-bit-of-hey-then-chat-away/
Where is amk? Okay, here’s what we’ve got: Trader Joe’s 2010 Vintage Ale. “Dark ale brewed with Spices and Natural Flavours added”. 9% alc./vol. What say you? It has been lying down for over two years, the cork looks fresh (cork on a beer?) and the dust is real! Shall we give it a sniff? (I don’t drink beer…)
Happy bel… birthday week Pamela!! Late to the party as usual.
