In truth, I’ve been enjoying an almost Florida-like winter so I really shouldn’t complain. So far this year I’ve only started wearing my winter coat since December and more often than not it’s been left open. To date I haven’t had to shovel except once and that was really not much. Of course, I have to remind myself not to be worrying about how much I might have to pay for this abstinence later.

in the last two days, police officers have been shot and killed on duty in wisconsin, and in texas (along with an innocent bystander) leading right up to christmas. few are as armed or trained as police officers, yet they can be sitting ducks to those who mean harm. the n.r.a. argument of more guns as the answer is proven wrong over and over again, yet “the news” just keeps repeating it as a valid viewpoint.
along with the horror of so many children killed in connecticut, consider all the public servants, mostly unionized and paid by our tax dollars, such as the teachers, firefighters, and police officers killed while working. these brave heroes, and if you hear the 911 recording of the firefighters and dispatchers in that new york fire/shooting tragedy you’ll really hear it, are incredibly brave and amazingly trained to handle intense situations, and their yearly salary is about 1 day of income for the “retired” fortunate son mitt rmoney. to this day, republicans argue that mitt rmoney, and tagg and all the other spawn for that matter, are much more “valuable” to society because the magical free market pays them insane amounts more. i want a world filled by people like those fallen selfless heroes, instead on these privileged and greedy cowards. we must win the House in 2014, and we can continue changing the “me first” mindset that has dominated america ever since ronald reagan made it mainstream. forward for those fallen!!!!

I don’t post almost ever, but I just want to say Merry Christmas and thank you to Chips and everyone who posts here for helping me through a very difficult time during the election and right after, when my sister suddenly passed away. She was a McCain voter who came to love President Obama. She was in a coma on election night and died the next afternoon, but I felt she was watching with me and I was watching with all of you. Joy to All.

This painting reminded me of something I’ve been thinking of related to the gun debate: A “well regulated militia” in those days required that the soldier being summoned bring his own musket (and horse, too)… that’s a big part of why the founders wanted the populace to be able to have guns. It’s just another thing that was good and even necessary in the 1700′s, but is not what those same (sane) men (and their smart wives at home) would think is necessary if they were living with our founding principles today. Just my thoughts.

Oh, Chips, February 2012, my very best Christmas present. I was mesmerized. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for ALL your GREAT work. Merry Christmas, everyone.
Darting in to wish everyone a Merry Xmas and Happy Holiday! We’ve already had 2 xmases——a festive party here the night before last, crackling fire, glowing candles, lots of xmas loud xmas music, food and drink. And another great gathering at my Chgo daughter and son-in-law’s last night. Mr. dotster said I laughed for 6 hours straight, probably partly in relief at being able to laugh again after all the intense sadness and also at my very funny and adorablest 3 yr. old grandson. He was so sweet opening his gifts, saying things like, “Ohhhhhhhh, I LIKE it!” etc. We all were greatly amused when he got his construction guy outfit and refused to remove his neon vest with tool belt, hard hat and goggles for most of the night——enhanced every time he leaned over and revealed his “plumbers’ crack”, as they call it in polite circles—–his cute little butt crack—–which seemed to go along perfectly with his new gear.
My best gifts were grandkid photos and a great Obama book from my Ct. grandkids—–a beautiful coffee table book, “The American Jouney of Barack Obama” by Life publishing, forward from the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.
One more little bit of celebration to go. My best to all here, and especially to the great chips who keeps us up to date with news, photos and beautiful vids.

No snow yet, just cloudy and a bit cold. Around here we always seem to get snow either before or after Christmas, but rarely on the day itself. Indeed the last time I can remember was that snow fell a couple of days early in 1989, and it was cold enough to stick around. Back then I was in an apartment that was fairly cold, having both a porch and porch door and a pretty big picture sindow. (I moved the following year to another cold apartment-I finally got a reliably warm place when I got my condo).

What a lovely Christmas morning, although I awoke with a clatter so early, I already need a nap and it isn’t even noon here. Second-oldest granddaughter in FL sent Christmas videos of the whole family as they opened their gifts. Toddler great grandson was yawning through the early parts, then laughingly tossed each of his stocking stuffers on the floor, to make everybody laugh (he’s a player), stopping to pull the cord on the Christmas yo-yo first, before tossing it, too. Then I received a video of their sending up the balloons to heaven … my mother, their great grandmother, passed away on Christmas morning, seven years ago, and we started the tradition that day (leave it to us to pick something not environmentally friendly – Ha!) of sending up balloons for her because, as my son told his kids back then, “She taught us how to celebrate Christmas.” So touching!

in the last two days, police officers have been shot and killed on duty in wisconsin, and in texas (along with an innocent bystander) leading right up to christmas. few are as armed or trained as police officers, yet they can be sitting ducks to those who mean harm. the n.r.a. argument of more guns as the answer is proven wrong over and over again, yet “the news” just keeps repeating it as a valid viewpoint.
along with the horror of so many children killed in connecticut, consider all the public servants, mostly unionized and paid by our tax dollars, such as the teachers, firefighters, and police officers killed while working. these brave heroes, and if you hear the 911 recording of the firefighters and dispatchers in that new york fire/shooting tragedy you’ll really hear it, are incredibly brave and amazingly trained to handle intense situations, and their yearly salary is about 1 day of income for the “retired” fortunate son mitt rmoney. to this day, republicans argue that mitt rmoney, and tagg and all the other spawn for that matter, are much more “valuable” to society because the magical free market pays them insane amounts more. i want a world filled by people like those fallen selfless heroes, instead on these privileged and greedy cowards. we must win the House in 2014, and we can continue changing the “me first” mindset that has dominated america ever since ronald reagan made it mainstream. forward for those fallen!!!!
Sobering comments. What kind of mindset doesn’t get it? Thanks goodness a generation from now they will be in the minority.

I don’t post almost ever, but I just want to say Merry Christmas and thank you to Chips and everyone who posts here for helping me through a very difficult time during the election and right after, when my sister suddenly passed away. She was a McCain voter who came to love President Obama. She was in a coma on election night and died the next afternoon, but I felt she was watching with me and I was watching with all of you. Joy to All.

This painting reminded me of something I’ve been thinking of related to the gun debate: A “well regulated militia” in those days required that the soldier being summoned bring his own musket (and horse, too)… that’s a big part of why the founders wanted the populace to be able to have guns. It’s just another thing that was good and even necessary in the 1700′s, but is not what those same (sane) men (and their smart wives at home) would think is necessary if they were living with our founding principles today. Just my thoughts.

Darting in to wish everyone a Merry Xmas and Happy Holiday! We’ve already had 2 xmases——a festive party here the night before last, crackling fire, glowing candles, lots of xmas loud xmas music, food and drink. And another great gathering at my Chgo daughter and son-in-law’s last night. Mr. dotster said I laughed for 6 hours straight, probably partly in relief at being able to laugh again after all the intense sadness and also at my very funny and adorablest 3 yr. old grandson. He was so sweet opening his gifts, saying things like, “Ohhhhhhhh, I LIKE it!” etc. We all were greatly amused when he got his construction guy outfit and refused to remove his neon vest with tool belt, hard hat and goggles for most of the night——enhanced every time he leaned over and revealed his “plumbers’ crack”, as they call it in polite circles—–his cute little butt crack—–which seemed to go along perfectly with his new gear.
My best gifts were grandkid photos and a great Obama book from my Ct. grandkids—–a beautiful coffee table book, “The American Jouney of Barack Obama” by Life publishing, forward from the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.
One more little bit of celebration to go. My best to all here, and especially to the great chips who keeps us up to date with news, photos and beautiful vids.

No snow yet, just cloudy and a bit cold. Around here we always seem to get snow either before or after Christmas, but rarely on the day itself. Indeed the last time I can remember was that snow fell a couple of days early in 1989, and it was cold enough to stick around. Back then I was in an apartment that was fairly cold, having both a porch and porch door and a pretty big picture sindow. (I moved the following year to another cold apartment-I finally got a reliably warm place when I got my condo).

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
What a lovely Christmas morning, although I awoke with a clatter so early, I already need a nap and it isn’t even noon here. Second-oldest granddaughter in FL sent Christmas videos of the whole family as they opened their gifts. Toddler great grandson was yawning through the early parts, then laughingly tossed each of his stocking stuffers on the floor, to make everybody laugh (he’s a player), stopping to pull the cord on the Christmas yo-yo first, before tossing it, too. Then I received a video of their sending up the balloons to heaven … my mother, their great grandmother, passed away on Christmas morning, seven years ago, and we started the tradition that day (leave it to us to pick something not environmentally friendly – Ha!) of sending up balloons for her because, as my son told his kids back then, “She taught us how to celebrate Christmas.” So touching!

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether any city laws were violated when NBC’s David Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-round gun magazine on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, a spokesman confirmed to POLITICO.
“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this matter,” said police officer and spokesman Araz Alali in an interview Tuesday.
When pressed on what the police department was investigating, Alali added, “The ‘Meet the Press’, David Gregory incident.”
