Good Morning Chips and TOD family. Congrats on first libra800, I hope everyone has a productive day.
My youngest son gave me a cell phone for Christmas and I feel so last century trying to just answer a call. Just too many functions.
Be patient with yourself sonjia. You will catch on before you know it. Take the time to read the manual and go into the cell phone store if you can, that has your phone to get help. My almost 80 yr old mom goes into the store and they are so patient and helpful. I have written down the steps for her on how to answer, pickup messages and make calls. I am in my 50′s and I have my 20 something beautician show me things on my fancy phone.
Jojo, I tried to respong to you, but it said I needed an activatio token – that was a first. so, I will try here instead. Thanks for your kind comments, referring back to last thread. Lots of pug-love going around.
Good Morning Chips and TODers!
Seeing the President having to cut his much needed vacation short really ticks me off, and it’s simply because he’s dealing with a group of idiots that haven’t the sense to Govern a lemonade stand.
This is an attempt by the corrupt corrupt media to deflect the blame from the thugs. But if the latest ‘polls’ are to be believed, that’s a big if, the thugs are losing out in the public opinion and PBO was gaining.
Harry Reid came down pretty hard on Boehner. Anyone with any grain of intelligence has got to be able to see what the problem is, and that it isn’t PBO. All the haters need to sit down and shut up.
Good morning Chips and TOD family! Loved the Kennedy’s Honors and the interview.I updated my droid to 4g. It is amazing how much faster it is. I do love it. I can follow TOD when I am away from home and first thing in the morning. Now it’s time for coffee.
Mornin’! The President and First Lady looked wonderful and happy and gracious at the honors ceremony, as well as during the interview. Barbara Walters continues to ask same-old-same-old questions, but the Obamas always give new answers somehow!
In the yeah, like I could have done any better, the whole world’s a critic, category: Somebody needs some new choreography for the Kennedy Center Honors show. Although seeing the beautiful-inside-and-out Caroline Kennedy, the First Family, and all of the honorees and hearing the music and seeing the play acting and dancing and singing was a wonderful thing, it’s the same show each year … the same markers on the stage … the camera always pans to the honorees and some audience members the same way, just when many of them are putting their most deadpan look on their faces … it’s a little too contrived for me. Uh oh, maybe I should try lookin’ at some of this stuff with new eyes!
G’day. Yeah, Wa-wa fawned all over them, particularly Mrs. Obama (who was eternally gracious and wonderful taking her on the WH tour), and bragged it was her 4th year to interview them, and then she’ll go back on The View and make jabs against PBO. She needs to retire and take some of her friends with her (Issa, Arianna, etc.).
I see Chuck Todd was reporting from Pensacola, Fl. today, Joe Scarborough’s home base. Bet he’s his guest—- because why else would you be in Pensacola, Florida?
Ha! I spent a week there once, when I worked for the Navy! Actually, I spent my 50th birthday there, got sick as a dog with the cold everybody was giving everybody else that week, I was allowed to leave early, and got a ride to the airport from some gallant Sailor in a government car. TMI?
Instead of telling the 2 parties to "come together" on fiscal cliff, how about telling one party to "get it together"? tnr.com/blog/plank/111…— Jonathan Cohn (@CitizenCohn) December 27, 2012
Fantastic article about the crap Starbuck’s is putting on its coffee cups and how they miss the point entirely. We don’t have a two party problem in D.C. We have a republican party that has no concept on how to govern itself.
The Real Fiscal-Cliff Message Starbucks Should Put on Its Coffee Cups
Howard Schultz is frustrated. So am I. But Schultz is frustrated that the two parties can’t come to an agreement about fiscal policy. I’m frustrated that Schultz still thinks the two parties are equally to blame for the impasse. And I’m frustrated that Schultz isn’t the only one who thinks that way.
Schultz, as you may know, is the CEO of Starbucks Coffee. He appears to be one of the good guys in corporate America and he treats his employees well, by, among other things, providing even part-timers with health insurance. But he’s become obsessed with bipartisanship and the need for more of it. His latest effort in the campaign came on Wednesday, when he instructed baristas all over Washington to write the phrase “come together” on every cup of coffee they sold. He wasn’t thinking about the Beatles song.
Someone should ask Schultz which parts of the Republican proposals is he in favour of keeping? Does he like the part where seniors have to work an extra two years? The part that negatively adjusts their social security payments? How about the proposals that cut unemployment insurance, or food programs for kids? Because, if they think “bipartisanship” means that Democrats need to accept GOP policies, then he should tell us which destructive policies they want to accept. Not enough to just say “both sides do it”, when one side is trying to help the middle class, while the other side wants to destroy the middle class.

Weekly Address: Working Together to Extend the Middle Class Tax Cuts
President Obama – November 17, 2012
——————————————————–
The other path is for Congress to pass a law right away to prevent a tax hike on the first $250,000 of anyone’s income. That means all Americans – including the wealthiest Americans – get a tax cut. And 98 percent of Americans, and 97 percent of all small business owners, won’t see their income taxes go up a single dime.
The Senate has already passed a bill like this. Democrats in the House are ready to pass one, too. All we need is for Republicans in the House to come on board.
We shouldn’t hold the middle class hostage while Congress debates tax cuts for the wealthy. Let’s begin our work by actually doing what we all agree on. Let’s keep taxes low for the middle class. And let’s get it done soon – so we can give families and businesses some good news going into the holiday season.
Morning, mtmarilyn:) I am…lots to do, but nice to not have to wake up to an alarm clock in the morning:) Sounds like you have had a wonderful Christmas! Going to wine country…is that what I read?
Yes, to Santa Rosa. We have friends that retired there and we rented a small vacation cabin for a whole week. Nothing to do but visit all the wineries. I just heard they have a train that takes you to all the different wineries so you don’t have to drive. I think we will have a great time.
Good Morning TOD and Happy Kwanzaa to all who celebrate!
I’m sorry PBO had to shorten his vacation. The poor guy hasn’t had any meaningful time off for a while now. I am so grateful for his and his families service and sacrifice to this country. There are times like this that I feel we don’t deserve them.
Thanks, Baby O’Donna – When I wake up a bit more, I’ll send a note, as well. He knew what he was getting into by running for this office, and he’s up for the task, but I join you in wishing that he’d had a longer family vacation. Would have been better for his heart and soul. Luckily, he thinks right and does right, so he’ll stay healthy anyway!
I just get the feeling that more has been asked of this President than any before him. Bush went off to Texas anytime he wanted and stayed as long as he wanted no matter what. He barely ever stayed in DC. Even when he was here he wasn’t here. He would take his family and go up to Camp David. He hated DC! Somehow that was perfectly acceptable but this poor guy just jumps from manufactured and real crisis after the next.
I am very grateful that he has a supportive family to surround himself with and that he has the Patience of Job. SMH!!!
Too bored with and annoyed to look it up, again, but wasn’t it publicized that GWB spent one-third of his two terms away from D.C.? Just because one of the President’s home states is “exotic” Hawaii, and he’s not heading back to a secluded ranch in Texas, he somehow is “always on vacation,” in the minds of those looking to put down his every action. SMH, too. But we will support him through all of it, again!

That reminded me that President Obama is still ours for four more years, and I personally am still ridin’ with Biden in that crazy car, so I think we’ll be fine. As long as we keep a lot of wine in the house.
Michelle and I extend our warm thoughts and best wishes to all those celebrating Kwanzaa this holiday season. Today marks the first day of the week-long celebration of African-American history and culture through the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
To many, Kwanzaa serves as a time of reflection–taking lessons learned from our past and looking forward to a more promising tomorrow. It reminds us that though there is much to be thankful for we must recommit ourselves to building a country where all Americans have the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
As families across America light the Kinara today in the spirit of unity, our family extends our prayers and well wishes during this season.

7.67 in Florida. When I had my first job back in the olden days (as my students say) of the early 70′s it was 1.60. When it moved to 1.80, we thought that we had arrived.
The other good news from WA is that the goal of recycling more than we put in landfills has at last been reached. That goal was set in 1989. Nice goin’ WA.
The teacher of the earth science class was lecturing on map reading.
After explaining about latitude, longitude, degrees and minutes the teacher asked, “Suppose I asked you to meet me for lunch at 23 degrees, 4 minutes north latitude and 45 degrees, 15 minutes east longitude?”
After a confused silence, a voice volunteered, “I guess you’d be eating alone.”
Lisa Jackson is stepping down from her post as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency after a four-year term.
“I will leave the EPA confident the ship is sailing in the right direction, and ready in my own life for new challenges, time with my family and new opportunities to make a difference,” she said in a statement announcing her departure.
“I want to thank President Obama for the honor he bestowed on me and the confidence he placed in me four years ago this month when he announced my nomination as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency,” she said in her statement, which indicated she will leave the cabinet after the State of the Union address. “At the time I spoke about the need to address climate change, but also said: ‘There is much more on the agenda: air pollution, toxic chemicals and children’s health issues, redevelopment and waste-site cleanup issues, and justice for the communities who bear disproportionate risk.’”
Saying that Jackson has been “an important part of my team,” Obama praised those efforts in a statement.
“Under her leadership, the EPA has taken sensible and important steps to protect the air we breathe and the water we drink, including implementing the first national standard for harmful mercury pollution, taking important action to combat climate change under the Clean Air Act and playing a key role in establishing historic fuel economy standards that will save the average American family thousands of dollars at the pump, while also slashing carbon pollution.”
And just for fun, five words that were in the language long before the election, but seem to refer to the candidates. I think Romney’s is pretty accurate.
So, the news is now convinced if their is no grand bargain, that the President agenda, Immigration reform, green energy, transportation projects, is dead.
So, that is how they are going to play this, just stop everything unless the President agrees with Paul Ryan?
This is incredible!
This is why it’s so important for the Democratic message machine to kick into high gear. The messaging should make clear the culprit but that America’s agenda will not be hijacked or deterred.
Senate Maj. Ldr. Reid: We're going over the cliff. Calls House Speaker Boehner a dictator who's blocking most of (the House) on the issue— West Wing Reports (@WestWingReport) December 27, 2012
Happy Kwanza everyone here!
Donna, I also sent a note to the WH thanking our President for cutting his vacation short for these repulsive Repubs who refuse to work.
It is a shame that they are even getting a paycheck and allowed to stay on their vacations. What was the Serenity Prayer all about if they refuse to even come back and at least show some respect for this President. He has young kids who need and deserve both their parents on vacation. Some of these old farts probably can’t even get out of bed unless the wife helps them out.
We should send tweets, emails and telephone them with to get their lazy asses back to DC and make them pay for it or send the bill to Grover Norquist, their Master who they have sworn to uphold, the one who jump start so-called “fiscal cliff” any way.
I just cannot believe after a grueling campaign this President cannot enjoy vacation time with his family. Regardless of what is expected of these idiots. Where is OWS movement now? Why aren’t they occupying DC? This man has done more than enough to help bring this country to some respectability throughout the world and now this!
He was named “Man of the Year” and this is how they treat him? I feel guilty enjoying the rest of my time with my family knowing he cannot. Yes, he is the President……but enough is enough!
I pray that he wipes the floor with their asses in his State of the Union speech and We, the People, finally vote these sorry ass bums out of office 2014.
Have a nice day everyone. (I see why FLOTUS says she could not run for office……her husband’s patience is truly a gift from God)
Yardam, I feel you but……just keeping it real. It is about the color of his skin.
Whatever he stands for even if it was what they stand for they will and have opposed. They lost and could not buy, steal or borrow this election. The repugs did this to themselves by jumping on the band wagon with those crazy tea party KKK members. and now, they are eating them, their jobs and their souls alive.
And let us not forget the so- called emprogs.
What the hell is that any way? I am tired of the BS on the right, left, middle. Just let this man do what “WE” elected him to do.
If they had scrutinized Bush and his ” merry men of mishaps”, maybe just may be we would not be in the state we are in. I doubt it, though. They vowed to destroy this second term before he even got in the first term. They are a sick, pathetic bunch of fools.

Huh? What about “scaled back” fiscal is “negotiating with himself”? Concern trolling much? He said before he left for Hawaii that congres should focus on passing bill that prevents taxes from going up on 98% of Americans. Everything else to be be worked on later. So what is wrong with that?
You’re right. Just seems rather pathetic that as elected reps they can’t do the hard work and do big things….they have do get “scaled down” proposals sent them so they won’t have to tackle tough issues. They’re past pathetic.
Zizi, that’s harsh. My question was honest. Your response seems reactionary. I’m not saying anything is wrong with it. I wanted an explanation about why this isn’t negotiating with himself. Instead you insult me.
Yes. Sometimes the media and others think that the way the game is played is the important part. Uh, no, it’s the intended outcome. It’s showing compromise. It’s the outcome. I trust President Obama to get us to the right point. It’s why he got my one vote, twice.
What exactly does “negotiating with yourself mean?” I don’t see why anyone would think the President has all the leverage when one House of Congress in controlled by a lunatic group of people masquerading as a legitimate political party. I hope we here at TOD don’t become so impatient that we start abandoning our pragmatism and a realistic understanding of how a divided government functions.
POTUS is always – ALWAYS – going to take the high road and get the job done. When push comes to shove, he won’t focus on pure gamesmanship but on making something important happen. I’m quite sure he’ll have plenty to say about all of this at a later, more appropriate, time.

Good morning TOD ohana. A sunny, but cold day in NE Fla.
Okay, for all you folks out there still living in a democracy this is what Republican governance looks like:

Lucky buggers.
7.67 in Florida. When I had my first job back in the olden days (as my students say) of the early 70′s it was 1.60. When it moved to 1.80, we thought that we had arrived.
San Francisco minimum wage is $10.55/hour.
Hi Meta,
The minimum wage in Santa Fe is $10.29/hr.
Ha!!! Good Morning/Evening Amk!!
Jackson to step down as EPA head

Pres. Obama is back in D.C. He just landed at AFB.
Thank God we his back in DC safely!! Sorry he had to cut short his vactation.
President Obama has returned.
Witness the depth of pure hatred for one man and what he represents!
I couldn’t have said it better LDS.
Happy Kwanza, LDS! Great comment.
Starbucks is getting mockery and push back on their ridiculous “Come Together” blame both sides nonsense.
I hope this means he’s busy in meetings with Turtle, POTUS and Nancy Smash.
Yup, I think he wants to meet especially with PBO who just arrived in DC.
Good morning TOD! Good morning Chips
Mark Knoller is childishly gloating about PBO “not looking happy”
Mark needs to find an exercycle.
I was thinking something else.
Like a whole damn gym. I’m with you japa.
Well yes, but for his mood even something else.
LOLz.
Yes I’m with you on that one too japa.
oooh– i would not want to be on the receiving end of that expression. the rethugs are not going to be glad they played silly games with this man. you think they’d notice that their entire party is in shambles, and gee, when did that happen–oh yeah, right after they f-cked with obama. wonder what he’s planning for them now they’re doing it again?
I love it that What Is Working is back to finding good non-political news again. Love this gem: http://www.whatisworking.com/2012/12/plant-root-used-to-create-eco-friendly.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+WhatIsWorking+%28what+IS+working%29
Just watched this beautiful video montage of PBO AND MICHELLE. It’s at SMARTYPANTS’ site. It’s title: Be ever wonderful.
It’s a sweet four minutes in an otherwise yucky day.
Now there’s a lady who knows how to prioritize.
I love this lady’s thought process.
I love her, she cracks me up!
It’s been decades, I tell ya, since we older “girls” followed Dr. Ruth. Might be time to give her another look, now that she’s gone political. Ha!
Every down-ticket Democrat should be talking the same way, no matter which state they represent or how long they’ll be in Congress. Good New Year’s resolution for all of ‘em!
I have to say I was enjoying the idea of the President having all the leverage in this. Sure don’t understand this move.
Forgot to add: How is this not negotiating with yourself?
Trust POTUS to do the right thing for the country.
I should have said, I trust POTUS to do the right thing for the country.
no, you got it right both times, annie bella!
He’s simply making a proposal that locks in what he said he gets “for free.” So he’s not giving up his leverage.
http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2012/12/i-get-that-for-free.html
POTUS is always – ALWAYS – going to take the high road and get the job done. When push comes to shove, he won’t focus on pure gamesmanship but on making something important happen. I’m quite sure he’ll have plenty to say about all of this at a later, more appropriate, time.
Interesting. Will this just be the tax cuts for those making $250,000 and below, thus putting aside the other issues until after the 1st?
Wasn’t that same thing already passed by the Senate?
Yes, the Senate passed it but the House has steadfastly refused to take up the bill extending tax cuts for all the income of $250,000 and below.
I’m thinking it will be this but also some UI provision with some sort of offset thrown in.
Yes, I was thinking something along the lines of “square one” — the most minimalist bill they can pass while still handling the most dire needs.
But one wonders, of course, what the Administration will choose to prioritize in making a nearly-last shot at a deal.
Sounds like it will also include unemployment benefits extension and an extension of the current estate tax (latter is enticement for R’s).
Amazing performance right here:
Thank you for this Meta. This performance by Beth Hart brought the roof down last night.
ARGH:
Worthless press!
Well, that explains that.
They’re gossip-mongers.

We have a Republican leadership acting out of fear: Boehner afraid of losing speakership next week; McConnell of losing primary in 2014.

New post everyone:

Thanks, but no thanks. How about giving us the short version?
There is no short version of these atrocities!
Okay. All filed under “Hatin’ Obama,” I guess. I’ll read it.
Thanks Chipsticks for posting the segments of the interviews!!!! Much appreciated.
