I like what the VP knows and does – but like the dems I believe he needs to be 100% behind PBO and since the debacle about the Catholics and birth control, he sometimes worries me. Just because Boehner cried that the President was “too hard” to negotiate with – and the Senate leaders wouldn’t negotiate with each other – was not a reason for the VP to think he could win them over. Putting them in front of an AKA47 seems to be the only way that the gop in the house will do any negotiating – I think the President should go to Hawaii and have a holiday – all the GOP wants is to make sure the Press attacks PBO so he might as well have his well earned holiday and let the press rant about that.
There’s no way VP Biden is doing any of this without the President’s entire direction and support. Let’s remember who the villans are – the Republicans. My take.
Mine as well, JO’B. Joe Biden has always been beside PBO and knows what an incredible President we have. He is loyal and trustworthy. He knows the way through this. Have no fear.
He upset me on the birth control issue – and I simply hate that the media uses the VP to attack the President – TOD has well got the President’s back – the rest I have reservations.
(CNN) – Forty years after they were convicted by a jury of firebombing a grocery store in Wilmington, North Carolina, civil rights activists who became known as the “Wilmington 10″ were pardoned Monday by the state’s outgoing governor.
“These convictions were tainted by naked racism and represent an ugly stain on North Carolina’s criminal justice system that cannot be allowed to stand any longer,” said Gov. Beverly Purdue. “Justice demands that this stain finally be removed.”
In 1972, nine black men and one white woman were convicted in the store firebombing in the coastal city despite their claims of innocence and their supporters’ vehement argument that the defendants were victims of racially biased prosecutors.
Their sentences were commuted in 1978 by the state’s governor then, and two years later their convictions were overturned for reasons of misconduct by the prosecutors.
But until Monday there were no pardons, and the sting of the guilty verdicts still followed the six surviving members of the group that was known nationwide as the Wilmington 10.
Great Job, Gov. Perdue! Thanks Jovie for sharing this. Finally justice came to the Wilmington 10! For many of us active in the struggle for freedom and Justice, the Wilmington 10 were a major symbol of that struggle.
I hope the media, GOP, and professional left don’t try to hijack our President’s 2nd inauguration and festivities with their constant carping about one issue or the other. They’re on notice. They tried to deny him a victory on Nov 6, but were unsuccessful. They tried to deny him a proper vacation and rest with his family. They will not stop. This is shameful and America should not stand by and allow the Republicans and their friends in the left and right media to treat this man in such a manner.
Well, Grover Norquist wants spending cuts every month and is advising the House to only fund Government on a monthly basis and cut federal government until their is no federal government and…
What I’ve been saying– the GOP is not the main story. Mainstream media and what it allowed GOP to do is the story for the history books. They will be condemned. That’s why MSM is disdained almost as much as GOP.
Just finished a piece for TPV. Slowly coming out of my hibernation. Now I’m going to take a cocktail break, watch a little boob tube, and catch up with everyone in a bit.
Happy New Years Eve, everyone. Just finished watching Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels. No, not the House Majority, the one starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Hoping better news would greet us after we watched it. Best Wishes to everyone.

Today would have been my grandmother’s 75th birthday. She died 7 years ago after Katrina. She’s buried in Thibodaux, La since at the time of her death no one was able to return to NOLA and the place where she had a plot was literally underwater.
Anyway, my fam visited her grave in Thibodaux and placed some flowers on her grave…so bittersweet today.
Happy New Year Everyone and RIP and Happy Birthday to my granny Beulah.
Bittersweet story lamh. Your granny would be so proud to know that she brought the family together again and that you’re moving back close to home. Here’s to making beautiful new memories in 2013. Happy New Year!

what’s on your menu for tonight? we’re having wild salmon, corn bread, dark greens with garlic, with a nice pinot. dessert: fresh shortbread with blueberries, and prosecco.
‘ For centuries, people all over the world have noshed on certain foods that are thought to bring them luck on New Year’s.’
Happy New Year Chips…. Even though I may not blog here much…Just want you to know that I am so grateful for all that you do.
Cheers to the Finest Blog on earth! Much Love ~ Kasai
Happy New Year, dear Chips. And to all TODers, thank you for keeping us all on an even keel and for re-electing our beloved President Barack Hussein Obama, an extraordinary man of our time, a true, true patriot.
I feel sad for our country at this hour but I know that we will persevere. Love to this great community!!
Going to my Moms for New Years here in Pasadena, CA.
Happy New Year All and I love all my TOD friends. Thank you Chipsticks for a wonderful place and everyone’s efforts to re-elect President Obama. I am sad he is spending it away from his wife but at least he and Bo are together.
Joining you in the water works dept. So many memories about all the giants that helped many of us keep on keeping on even in those hard times that we went through. Yardarm, you are truly a blessing! I hope you have a wonderful New Year!
Michael Franti and Spearhead ~ Obama Song: youtu.be/jd9xU8cw1JE // Go ahead, you know you wanna get up and dance!— Dudette (@Dudette9t9) January 01, 2013
Thank you CHIPS, you’ve brought so many people together & I for one have learned so much. Everyone have a Happy New Year , as we fall off this cliff, etc, & hopefully some undeserving politicians will get the boot soon. America deserves better, & POTUS deserves better! Enjoy the night all !
As 2012 comes to a close and 2013 rolls in, I just want to say (again) how much I love and appreciate this wonderful blog. Chips has created a most extraordinary forum for us here – where we can voice support for our oustanding President and his administration, inform and enlighten each other, motivate each other, console each other, inspire each other (there’s that word again; must be my word for the day), and share our hopes and dreams for ourselves and this country. We are a community, we are a family.
Each of us contributes something unique that makes this place so amazing and special. Even those too shy or too busy to post a comment, but pass on a note that you saw here or are emboldened to take action that moves us all FORWARD, you are an important part of the beautiful tapestry that’s been weaved here. As the President says, “Together there’s nothing we can’t do.” I look forward to 2013 – encouraged by all the good that’s been achieved this year, confident that our country can meet the coming challenges ahead and excited by the wonderous possibilities in store for us all.
For the entire TOD family, my wish is that new year brings you and your loved ones good health, abundant prosperity, exhilarating joy, abiding peace, and everlasting love. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Dudette. You have so beautifully stated all that I have thought and felt about this wonderful place that Chips has created and that so many have sustained. Your contributions of great music, humor, and passion have helped to make our home the special place that it is.
Let me join you in thanking Chipsticks for creating this blog that has attracted many wonderful people. But I also want to thank you so much Dudette for contributing so much joy and love to the TOD family! I always look forward to the music you share as well as your hard hitting tweets in support of our wonderful President.
That means a lot to me, nath! You’ve been so kind. I know it’s been a tough year for your family. I wish the best for you all, now and always. Happy New Year!
I only check in the last 15 minutes of the Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest party on NBC. I will read or watch one of the movies (the latest Bourne installment or Dark Knight) until then. I live in the South where a lot of fools think that it is a great idea to greet the New Year with gun fire, Every year there are accidents; some fatal. Considering the awful year that we we have gone through this practice is even more unsettling.
love that show. one of my favorite literary characters. I’ve read the book like beaucoup times. I read it, toss it, then read it again and have to re-buy it. Thank goodness for Kindle…lol
Chipsticks, what a wonderful feat: you brought us 365 days of Obama-ness over the past year. Just incredible. It’s hard to be persistent at anything for 365 consecutive days, much less maintaining a blog on a daily basis. I don’t take it lightly and I want you to know how much I truly appreciate that I was able to come here during the ups and downs, the highs and lows, the ins and outs, the campaign, the trips, the debates, the babies, the election — all of it. Thank you!
Thank you also the TOD Family — for all your comments, information, links, videos, tears and laughter. This is truly the best spot on these internets because of all of you.
Here’s to a 2013 full of joy, justice, truth, beauty, and love. Onward and Upward! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
TY for the wishes, and since I’m told laughter is the best medicine, I’ll be sending you a bill sometime in the near future for 2012 medical services rendered.
Wha-do-ya-know, I had a business going and didn’t even know it! I’ll be a job creator yet…..as soon as I siphon off the major profits to Cayman! Okay folks, step right up and settle your bills, and do it before 2013 so I don’t have to pay the higher tax rates that are imminent.
Seriously, Little Dude, I love being able to share space here in the village with the kinds of awesome talents as are often on display. I’m in awe of you and other TOD deejays, because 9-1/2 time out of 10 I can’t remember any ‘mood’ music until one of you shares. In fact, more often I’d never heard the song before.
I have to say years ago I heard a relative eulogizing a parent on the radio with the words ‘While he was alive, he lived’ and it made an impact on me. It still doesn’t apply to me, but listening to many of you here, I get the sense that while you are alive, you are living. Come on down, 2013!
Give Mitt a call, maybe he can get things rolling for you in the Caymans!
The surest proof that one is alive: tears and laughter. The more of the latter the better, preferably done vigorouly enough to bring on the former. You, my dear, have filled that prescription for me (and I’m sure many other TOD’ers) more than you know. Thank You! Happy New Year!
A Happy and Riveting 2013 to all the ‘Toders’ and especially the delectable Ms Chips, who has provided us with this space full of humour, insightfulness, warmth, comfort, interactive/eloquent discourse, news/views, and not to mention …naughtiness! An extra appreciative hail out to all the twitter warriors, especially UT and Bobfr.
Yep, let the fireworks begin!
Happy New Year to all on this blog. I hope it is a good one for all of you and I am so excited about PBO’s inauguration in 20/21 day’s time.
It is nearly 1 a.m here in the UK so I am off to bed. God bless you all and have a wonderful new year.
Thank you Chips for this amazing site and can’t wait to share the joy of President Obama’s second inauguration with you all.
Happy New Year Miss Chips.
Happy New Year my fellow inhabitants of TODville. I am looking forward to the beginning of President Obama’s second term in office with you as we continue to have his back.
Happy New Year President Obama and Vice President Biden and both families.
Persian cucumbers? Heirloom tomatoes? LL, whatever is wrong with good old American cucumbers and tomatoes? Where’s your patriotism? [ Did you hear the strains of jealousy as I thought of my own leftovers?] Enjoy your meal, and may you are your spouse have a very fulfilling 2013!
Loved your People’s View post LL, I punched the air with glee at large chunks of it, especially this:
“2012 saw a bit of the fever break, as the left media more or less fell in line behind Obama’s campaign. And now that he’s won, just as in 2008, it believes that he should follow their prescriptions, their strategies. It is beyond their understanding that he won in spite of them, not because of them.”
really, I was just getting pissed off at the whiplash-inducing freakout from the usual suspects. If we go off the cliff, my family won’t be hurt much; but many will. It’s not a fucking game. PBO can both get a deal and make the GOP look bad. What’s not to get?
When the American economy tanks – which it will if “over the cliff” actually takes effect – everyone in the country – and the world will relive 2008/9 – everyone will be hurt. My retirement investment (all I have) just got back to where it was 5 years ago – and it is about to tank again. The President and his administration know this – the GOP thinks it is a good idea to defeat a President by ruining the economy – cause they cannot find a scandal to bring down the black guy.
I am horribly pissed and am well sick of the gop’s game.
Happy New Year’s Eve TOD Family!! 5:45pm Mountain time here in Albuquerque. Just got home from my credit union job. Looooooong quiet day. The building usually has 40-50 employees. I doubt there were more than 20 today. I’m only on my first Sierra Nevada 2012 Celebration Ale. First of many!! What a year!! WHAT A GREAT ELECTION!!!! We have a few fireworks left from Nov. 6th to light! It might be a little more acceptable tonight, although on Nov. 6th it was F**k ‘Em!! A little noise won’t hurt!!! Have fun everyone! GET STUPID!!!! (But be careful!)
David Axelrod mentioned, in that great interview at the U. of Chicago Institute of Politics,
that he was reading James Farrell’s biography of Clarence Darrow, published 2011.
He recommended reading it as a view into the ridiculous messiness of politics “back then”,
so that we can see that, really politics is messy and “nothing has changed” in that regard.
It’s helpful to me to be reading it right now. So: in answer to the question upthread re what’s
everybody looking at this evening, those who are stayiing home, I’m reading and I recommend
to all of you, “Clarence Darrow: Attorney for the Damned”.
LiberalLibrarian, I just read your article on citizenship. That’s the deal. Out of this mess,
we arise as an informed citizenry. That would be our Happy New Year of 2013. Let’s do it.
Right here from TheObamaDiary. Let’s do it. Love to all.
Not simply “ridiculous messiness of politics” but also the hideously excruciating ignorance
and greed that drives a lot of it. You can smell the sewage on the pages, is what I’m
trying to say. And yet there were ~some~ who had the instinct for freedom and justice.
I’m just sittin’ here preachin’ to the choir. so: happy new year all. xoxox
Sara – You are a great writer! And, I’m afraid, we can “smell the sewage” in today’s Congress and Statehouses, too. But good politicians – and, yes, there are many – will prevail. I hope.
Whadya mean by seasoned, Sailor? You old salt! Ha! I recall every word of this song. My son was born in February 1969, so there was a lot of joy for me, all around.
I remember this very well. I was a junior in College. Sometimes I sit back and wonder what exactly happened to people in our generation many of whom are now diehard right wingers.
Our dear Chips and wonderful TOD family, I hope you all have a New Year’s Eve and New Years Day! It’s going to be quiet for us. Just want to spend time at home putting all Christmas away before we leave on vacation this Thurs. Dear Chips, thank you for starting this wonderful place and keeping it troll free. I know it is not easy and you do know what it means to all of us. I do have great hope for the next 4 years. I do have great trust in this President, I just have no trust in the Repubs and all the hatred for this President. I do have trust in all the people I know love this President.
mtmarilyn, have a really wonderful trip. I was just in NoCal wine country a couple of weeks ago and it was heavenly. Incredible wine and gorgeous countryside. I hope you enjoy and savor every moment.
Happy New Year everyone!!!! Staying home tonight…like I do every NYE…too many crazies out for me, though I WILL volunteer my husband to go pick up my son from work whenever he needs to be picked up:)
LL, off to read your new piece at TPV…dinner looks devine! I swear, if I’m ever in LA, I’m banging on your door:) I’ll bring wine, or dessert or something!
Chips. TOD family….love you all. Truly. Thanks for the fun, the great conversations, kick ass tunes….and a really good “bust a gut” laugh. If I could hug every one here…I would!!
LL’s piece at TPV is a must-read as we continue with the fiscal cliff negotions.
Here’s a teaser excerpt:
//The usual suspects on the Left are back to calling President Obama a bumbling fool. Take a look at any of the diaries on Daily Kos, or the usually level-headed PM Carpenter, or Ezra Klein and Sam Stein calling Obama’s fiscal cliff press conference “jerky”.
I’ll still read them, because I write for this blog, and it serves me to know who I’m mocking. But none of us should be under the illusion that they’re “progressive” in any sense of the word’s definition. I’ll leave it to others to deduce the reasoning behind their constant carping of this African American president. But there is no doubt that there’s a sense of entitlement on the part of large sectors of the Left media; they believe that it was mostly through their efforts that Barack Obama was re-elected in November. Without their bullhorns, they reason, we’d have President-elect Romney measuring the drapes… //
And full disclosure: I HATE voting for the water board / school board. But I do it. Because I have the right to do so. And because people have died for me to have that right. And I’ll be damned if their sacrifices will be in vain.
Absolutely! My parents drilled it into our heads early how important it is to vote.
I do try to take the time to find out about the candidates before voting though. Thank goodness for the League of Women Voters of Georgia, who do an excellent job providing as much info as they can about candidate positions prior to elections. Sadly, I know these local and specialized elections don’t get as much attention from the electorate as they should. In my case, if I can’t find anything about the candidates beforehand, I look for party affiliation (and of course vote for the Dem), if it’s a non-partisan post, I try to find whatever info I can, and if there’s nothing, then and only then do I through up a hail mary and just vote for someone. Only time I don’t vote is in unopposed runs where the candidate is a Repug or if the choice is between two of them. No way, will I vote for a Repub. Independent or other party even, but Repub, no way, no how.
Great article LL! People must be made aware that we’ve entered a time when ACTIVE citizenship is required. Gone are the days when we can be complacent and sleep between the “big” elections. We need to stay informed, stay active and keep moving FORWARD. Thanks for raising your voice on this important topic!
I support unions, but whether or not Richard Trumka likes this particular deal is irrelevant to me. So, I guess I’ll offer to hold him for ya. Hang in there and Happy New Year!
Thank you, dear. I support Unions completely, when I lived in Michigan my dad worked for General Motors and the Unions took care of the workers. My dad is and will always be a Union man. I still will beat up Mr. Trumka…lol.
In my case, it was my coal miner grandfather who was a union man! (And my uncles who at one point or another worked for General Motors, too, as did a few friends’ dads, etc.)
Has Richard Trumka ever negotiated a deal where his Union got 100% of what they wanted? I am so sick of these so called progressives who expect President Obama to either accomplish miracles or act as a U.S. dictator and not a U.S. President, in a government that is based on divided powers.
You know ur getting old when it’s New Year’s eve and the ball drop is 5 hours away and you are already yawning…may not make it before the countdown…lol.
You are not alone, Lamh. I’ve been trying to keep my eyes open for about an hour now. Moving upstairs revived me a bit, so I’ll see how long that lasts.
Adding my wishes for a happy, healthy, prosperous and sane new year for all. Chips, you are a diva, a goddess, and a wonderful human being. Thanks for this wonderful space you have created and for all the amazing, articulate, engaged and engaging folk who inhabit this space.
Just finished listening to “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” (while dressing my loom to weave a baby blanket for my great nephew — gotta squeeze in some creative time before I go back to the demands of academe.) So much to think about, once again reinforcing that things are almost never black and white, but shades of gray with bits of truth scattered through the stories. One of things it also brought home is how easy it is for some people with “vision” to loose sight of the people whose lives are impacted by their work, that the particular and specific is as important as the far ranging and monumental.
Sorry for the ramble! Hope everyone’s celebration, whether large or small is just what they need to greet the new year.
Gasp! Marachne, you won’t believe this, but I swear a couple of days ago, I was trying to remember Henrietta Lacks name (and couldn’t) — I wanted to tell my sister what book or audiobook I might like to get next!!! So amazing that you mentioned it here! [God, I love this blog!] Hope you enjoyed it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. Can’t wait to get it and get started.
I’m so impressed at your weaving a baby blanket. It must be truly satisfying to be able to create something beautiful like that by your own hand. Would love to see the finished piece when it’s done. Please send us a picture if you’d care to share it.
Enjoy the peas and ringing in the New Year with your family! Happy New Year!
Ringing in the New Year with one of my favourite love stories…Nottinghill. Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous 2013 , and looking forward to lots more events and pics on TOD in the coming four years. Thank you Chips for making this space a home for many around the world. Surely, if love brings the world together you have proven that over and over.God bless to everyone.
Here are the extras we are getting that Biden got us, Unemployment extension, R&D credit, 50% bonus depreciation, wind production tax credit, earned income tax credit and the tuition tax credit.
AMK, Happy New Year to you and your family! Thank you very much for making 2012 so bearable with your wit, your sense of humor, and your fearless tweets/comments supporting our President.
Just a quick drop in to say Happy New Year to all the wonderful TOD family. I’m feeling good about 2013. It’s only about 8pm in Chicago, but I don’t think I’ll make it much longer. *yawn*……………Age of Aquarius is fun to hear tho, since I am one. Seems like the moon must be in about the 20th house by now.
My final movie recommendation of the year: Looper. I saw it in the theatres and it was great. You’ll look at Bruce Willis differently after seeing it. It’s now on DVD.
This Dick Clark tribute on ABC is amazing – what I’ve seen so far. They just played a clip of The Miracles singing “Shop Around.” Then, from there to Billy Idol’s “White Wedding.”
This should bring a smile to everyone’s face from Politico:
Democrats win key tax fights in emerging fiscal cliff deal
The package being negotiated by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Vice President Joe Biden amounts to a defeat for the GOP on multiple fronts. It not only raises tax rates, but also extends stimulus-era tax policy, prolongs emergency unemployment benefits, maintains targeted tax breaks derided by the party as corporate handouts and revives limits on deductions for the wealthy that have been dormant for almost a decade — all policies that the GOP has fought. It’s expected to raise $600 billion over 10 years.
Above all, the emerging deal would shatter 20 years of Republican orthodoxy on taxes, undercutting a core part of the party identity that had been built around giving no quarter to any tax increase — ever.
Happy new year, Chipsticks! I’ve only commented here a few times, but I read this site every day, and every day, it makes me smile! Keep on keepin’ on!
Good Evening!
Yay, HF! Lst one for old times sake!
Thanks Pamela
CONGRATS hf!
Thanks GGail!
Good evening. Happy New Year.what an exceptional 2012 this is/was for a lot of reasons.
Thanks smooth!
Congrats as well.
Heeeey hopefruit! Last first for 2012 (maybe)! Congrats!
#2?
The House has officially adjourned until noon tomorrow and VP Biden is going to Capitol Hill to speak with Democrats. Happy freaking New Year America.
So, I guess PBO is not on AF1, is he? Mofos….
None of the ‘House’ is there anyway, right, adjourned or not. All the seats are empty most of the time…
Their heads are empty too – other than with skewed data on women’s reproductive health.
The senate has not adjourned yet. VP Biden might make a visit tonight.
I understand the angst, but we know our Joey’s got his back!
He upset me on the birth control issue – and I simply hate that the media uses the VP to attack the President – TOD has well got the President’s back – the rest I have reservations.
Joltin’ Joe Biden has the President’s back. His history in the Senate means he knows where and how to put the screws to these idiots.
Happy New Year everyone!!!
We love you back, Chipsticks, ON to 2013!
(CNN) – Forty years after they were convicted by a jury of firebombing a grocery store in Wilmington, North Carolina, civil rights activists who became known as the “Wilmington 10″ were pardoned Monday by the state’s outgoing governor.

Good job to the Democratic Governor Perdue.
Melissa Harris Perry spoke about this, this weekend. Happy that Gov. Perdue pardoned them. Their imprisonment was pure naked racism at play.
True.
It was gross. I live in N.C. It was gross. Thank you, Gov. Perdue. At last.
You get 3 guess. The first 2 don’t count and the last one would be wrong.
Money $$ Money $$ Money $$.

When can I come outta the bsmt?
Anytime you like friend! We’s free!

Ha! Not on your best day young blood.
HAPPY NEW YEAR Chipsticks!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my TOD family where ever you reside in the WORLD!
from the West Coast
Nice job Chips. Makes me miss the campaign. Thank goodness I soaked up every second of it; a lifetime’s worth of memories.
Hooray. A new thread. The last one was very busy as I suspect this one will be also.
Hidee ho all.
Just finished a piece for TPV. Slowly coming out of my hibernation. Now I’m going to take a cocktail break, watch a little boob tube, and catch up with everyone in a bit.
You should seriously send your articles to the Nation Magazine. Clearly, you should be a writer for that establishment and get paid for it.
Bless you, Jovie, but I think I’m too much of a prag prog for the Nation.
Happy New Years Eve, everyone. Just finished watching Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels. No, not the House Majority, the one starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine.
Hoping better news would greet us after we watched it. Best Wishes to everyone.
Perfect ending to 2012 Chips, thank you for the video and for your unsurpassed persistence.. I am eternally grateful to you for your site, for your awesomeness+++ HAPPY DAMN NEW YEAR

Happy New Year!
thank you, lamh. you help us remember what was lost, and how the struggle continues, after katrina. i’m so glad your new job and new apartment are bringing you back closer to home and family. happy birthday granny beulah, dancing with the angels today.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother lamh. May she RIP and wishing you and your family some measure of comfort and a peaceful New Year.
Anniversaries like this can be tough. I know you cherish the memories of your grandmother. Peace to you and your family.
Lamh35, losing a loved one is one thing you never completely get over. I hope your fond and loving memories of your granny will sustain you and your family.
Happy New Year to you and your family!
Lamh36, Happy Birthday to Granny Beulah — she continues to live in each of your hearts. Wishing you and your family Love, Peace & Joy in New Year. Sure your family is happy to have you back in their area.

)

‘ For centuries, people all over the world have noshed on certain foods that are thought to bring them luck on New Year’s.’

Mmmmm, sounds super delicious, susanne!!
I’m having fresh pacific dungeness crab, a very nice salad and Cremant Rose to toast.
Happy New Year Chips…. Even though I may not blog here much…Just want you to know that I am so grateful for all that you do.
Cheers to the Finest Blog on earth! Much Love ~ Kasai
Happy New Year, Kasai!
Best Wishes to you as well Jacqueline:-)
Happy New Year Chips and thank you for this wonderful blog.
This one gives me chills.
Two musical giants! More goosebumps! So sad remembering that Luther’s gone!
That’s why I had some water works up in here. At my age this is the time I lean back with my cocktail and remember.
Joining you in the water works dept. So many memories about all the giants that helped many of us keep on keeping on even in those hard times that we went through. Yardarm, you are truly a blessing! I hope you have a wonderful New Year!
Thanks pal. Same to ya.
… and ReeRee The Queen!! No words!!
Thought you’d like it.
Barack Obama is here to stay… Yes We Did> 2x…:-)
That is awesome!
Thanks, Kasai! This is exactly what I needed to day! Happy New Year to you and your family!
May I also add a voice of Amen.
Love you, dawg. You are a really special part of TOD. Thanks for all your contributions!
Love you right back! Thanks meta! This place wouldn’t be the same without you.
THAT was beautifully said, Dudette, and it expresses my feelings exactly, so I hope you don’t mind if I attach my signature with ‘Me too: VC’.
Attach away.
Happy New Year Dudette. You have so beautifully stated all that I have thought and felt about this wonderful place that Chips has created and that so many have sustained. Your contributions of great music, humor, and passion have helped to make our home the special place that it is.
Thank you so much CEB!
Beautiful, thoughtful words. Very much appreciated and shared!
Thanks jacqueline.
Thank you Dudette…That was beautiful!
Thanks Kasai! So are you!
I agree with you Dudette. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Let me join you in thanking Chipsticks for creating this blog that has attracted many wonderful people. But I also want to thank you so much Dudette for contributing so much joy and love to the TOD family! I always look forward to the music you share as well as your hard hitting tweets in support of our wonderful President.
! wish you and your family A Very Happy New Year!
That means a lot to me, nath! You’ve been so kind. I know it’s been a tough year for your family. I wish the best for you all, now and always. Happy New Year!
For those of us staying in tonight, what network is everyone watching tonight?
Twighlight Zone on SciFi!
hmm.. stuck with netflix here.. watching ‘solved’ I love a mystery~
I just watched the fist season of Nashville. Wow, Connie Britton is amazing and I love all the soapy twists and turns.
I also have Downton Abbey to review. Stoked!
I’m staying in but I’m not going to watch anything. I have discovered that the earlier I go to bed the quicker the new year comes.
I was channel surfing and found a New Year program celebrating the music of Marvin Hamlisch on PBS hosted by Audra McDonald. I am watching this.
Probably going to dive back into my recorded “Elementary”. Sherlock Holmes in 21st century New York. Quite addicting.
love that show. one of my favorite literary characters. I’ve read the book like beaucoup times. I read it, toss it, then read it again and have to re-buy it. Thank goodness for Kindle…lol

Happy New Year, Chips and TOD Family!
PJ!!! {{PJ}} Happy New Year, PJ, and may love , joy and peace be yours throughout 2013!
((((VC)))) You keep me entertained and laughing, VC. All the best to you!
TY for the wishes, and since I’m told laughter is the best medicine, I’ll be sending you a bill sometime in the near future for 2012 medical services rendered.
Might as well bill me too, ‘cuz you’ve had my side splitting and my gut bustin’ many a day!
{{{vcprezofan2}}}
TY. The best of the best to you for 2013!
Would like to co-sign.
CEB
((((CEB)))) Happy New Year, CEB!
Thank you so much PJ, happy new year to you! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
No, thank YOU! *raises a glass for a toast in your honor* All the best & cheers!
I’ll drink to that! Happy New Year PJ!
Happy New Year, Sweets! Thanks for keeping the music tables turning!
Happy New Year, Sam. As usual, London outdid itself in its celebration.
Happy new year Sam, I hope 2013 is blissful for you!!
Happy New Year, Sam, to you and your dear little son and family!! It’s a real pleasure to have you here.
Wishing a very happy NEW YEAR to the entire TOD family. May you be blessed in the new year with health and well being.
A special THANK YOU to CHIPS for giving us this wonderful venue, where we can congregate to support the best President ever, BHO.
Your journalism skills outshine all the so called journalists out there by a mile, Miss Chips. Thanks for all your hard work.
Happy New Year TOD family
So glad we will share 2013 with this wonderful online community and with PBO as our President.
CHIPS! that was WONDERFUL! I loved it! Happy New Year’s to you and yours and everyone here at TOD!
Happy New Year Miss Chips.
Happy New Year my fellow inhabitants of TODville. I am looking forward to the beginning of President Obama’s second term in office with you as we continue to have his back.
Happy New Year President Obama and Vice President Biden and both families.
So, because you’re all waiting, tonight’s menu at Casa de LL:
Filet mignon roast
Baked potatoes
Baby greens salad with persian cucumbers and heirloom tomatoes
YUM. What time should we all get there?
i should have everything ready by 7 PST. And then cocktails.
Persian cucumbers? Heirloom tomatoes? LL, whatever is wrong with good old American cucumbers and tomatoes? Where’s your patriotism? [
Did you hear the strains of jealousy as I thought of my own leftovers?] Enjoy your meal, and may you are your spouse have a very fulfilling 2013!
hey, heirloom tomatoes are all locally sourced! As American as apple pie!
Happy New Year to you too, VC.
Whatever the outcome, the usual suspects would have been whinging, they bore me to tears at this stage.
I just completely geeked out at PBO singing ‘Let’s Stay Together’ for a Jeopardy clue! I am such an Obot ~shakes head at self~
Happy New Year, TOD.
TV jeopardy? What? We missed that? Gotta find a link to that if there is one!
Happy New Year Bev!
Happy New Year, magapie! Sierra Nevada knows how to celebrate. Enjoy!
I hope.
Happy New Year!
Since this is a time to reflect. Maybe some of our more er, ah seasoned poster might remember this:
Whadya mean by seasoned, Sailor? You old salt! Ha! I recall every word of this song. My son was born in February 1969, so there was a lot of joy for me, all around.
No disrespect meant, eh. Just memories of some good times.
No kidding. No disrespect meant from me, either, just a wine-tinged joke!
Oh, my! I went to a 5th Dimension concert some 44 years ago where they sung this hit. Beautiful and hopeful song.
Glad you liked it.
I remember this very well. I was a junior in College. Sometimes I sit back and wonder what exactly happened to people in our generation many of whom are now diehard right wingers.
They were pre-disposed to that line of thinking.
I remember it well!
Don’t mind admitting I’m “seasoned”, since the alternative would be a tad unpleasant.
Ha!
Have a great time everyone!
mtmarilyn, have a really wonderful trip. I was just in NoCal wine country a couple of weeks ago and it was heavenly. Incredible wine and gorgeous countryside. I hope you enjoy and savor every moment.
Thank you meta, this will be our first extended time there. Looking forward to the down time. I have to let you know how much I appreciate you posts!
Thanks so much. We have such a great learning community here.
Have a great trip and a Happy New Year mtmarilyn!
Best wishes for a Happy & Healthy 2013 to all!
Happy New year TOD family.
Chips
Thank you.
Without their bullhorns, they reason, we’d have President-elect Romney measuring the drapes… //
http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2012/12/a-revolution-of-citizenship.html
LL did an excellent job. As usual…and he is absolutely 100% correct! Be engaged. ALL THE TIME.
And full disclosure: I HATE voting for the water board / school board. But I do it. Because I have the right to do so. And because people have died for me to have that right. And I’ll be damned if their sacrifices will be in vain.
Amen brother. Amen.
THIS!
I’m sure it pretty much went down like this:
HA!
LOL!
I’ve never hit another in my life with the exception of my sibs. But I would beat up, Richard Trumka. He doesn’t like the deal.
Trumka who? Ha!
Has Richard Trumka ever negotiated a deal where his Union got 100% of what they wanted? I am so sick of these so called progressives who expect President Obama to either accomplish miracles or act as a U.S. dictator and not a U.S. President, in a government that is based on divided powers.
^^^ THIS ^^^
I heard that Trumka were not please with the deal. To that I say, So.
Linked at bj – a lovely read that shows it is just politics as usual for the GOP

Almost worse than the bikini is the cartoon
You know ur getting old when it’s New Year’s eve and the ball drop is 5 hours away and you are already yawning…may not make it before the countdown…lol.
Have a cuppa Joe – VP Joe that is!!
You are not alone, Lamh. I’ve been trying to keep my eyes open for about an hour now. Moving upstairs revived me a bit, so I’ll see how long that lasts.
Last year was the first time I’d made it for the ball dropping in years, and only because we hosted a NYE party. Not sure if I’ll make it this year.
Off to put the black eyed peas to soak.
Thank you for your thinking here, Marachne. And ~yes~ to the black eyes peas !
Sweet movie! Happy New Year and Bless You Almablanca!
Here are the extras we are getting that Biden got us, Unemployment extension, R&D credit, 50% bonus depreciation, wind production tax credit, earned income tax credit and the tuition tax credit.
Per Senator Chris Coons in Bloomberg channel-
This is incredible!
But the House members are gone and Matt Knoller tweeted that Boehner was seen on his way to the airport, so what does that mean?
Well, 2013 has already started here and let me tell ya, it looks great.
Awwwwwwwww! Happy new year Amk!
PUPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awwww, love that cutie pie!!!
Doesn’t QUITE makes up for all the mean jokes about wimmin. But warrants a temporary truce!
Happy New Year!
AMK, Happy New Year to you and your family! Thank you very much for making 2012 so bearable with your wit, your sense of humor, and your fearless tweets/comments supporting our President.
Thank you, Nath. Wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year.
Happy New Year to all my fellow TOD’ers!!!!
Stir the Eggnog,
Lift the Toddy,
Happy New Year, Everybody!
Chips thank you for this wonderful haven here at TOD for us to celebrate and congregate in support of President Obama.
Wishing everyone a joyful, healthy, peaceful and successful 2013
My final movie recommendation of the year: Looper. I saw it in the theatres and it was great. You’ll look at Bruce Willis differently after seeing it. It’s now on DVD.
i thought this was a fun movie from 2012 (still in theaters I think)…big obama campaigner sarah silverman is amazing in it!
this says it all!
Happy New Year President and First Lady and First Daughters Malia and Sasha and First Grandmother Robinson!
Happy New Year all TODers. Cheers!!!!
Happy New Year First Doggie Bo!
This Dick Clark tribute on ABC is amazing – what I’ve seen so far. They just played a clip of The Miracles singing “Shop Around.” Then, from there to Billy Idol’s “White Wedding.”
Y’all are always so helpful, tell me what I need to do! I finally got a smart phone!!! but I’m a dumbass. Will it work??
“I finally got a smart phone!!! but I’m a dumbass. Will it work??”
