As some of you probably know I like adding visuals to my thank you tweets when I can find appropriate ones. I stumbled upon the tweeter featured in the two jokes I shared and s/he seems to have a treasure trove of visuals. I’m in visual ‘heaven’ at least I’ve been for the last 10 minutes or so.
I’ve never thought of this before this very minute, but how come blonde jokes always feature females? Shouldn’t blond guys be equally clueless if the stereotype is to hold any merit? Whatever happened to fair and balanced?

The main woman from Zero Dark 30 won. I heard she was amazing. It’s fitting that this category was the only one to win tonight. I hope this is repeated at the Oscars. I didn’t watch it and won’t even though I’ve read the reviews for it, the pros and cons, I still won’t see it.

I watched it Friday nite and came away completely unimpressed. It gave zero credit to Obama administration for reviving the OBL unit at the CIA in 2009 in the first place, after Bush had shut down in 2006. It was truly narcissistically focused on the female agent that Jessica Chastain played, and nothing about the political decisions that enabled her revived work.
There was nothing about Admiral McRaven who commanded the entire military component of the mission. The SEAL Team characters looked like teaparty loons.
I didn’t find the cinematography compelling either. Dialogue was bland, flatter than a TV drama script.
You can tell I reaaaaaaaally luuuurved it …..
The fact that the movie doesn’t credit the people who made the raid happen makes me think it’s just about sensationalizing a pretty horrific event (the consequence of an even more horrific event: 9/11) and making money. Once I heard that it presented torture as an viable tactic, rather than the horrific thing that it is that ruins the tortured and those doing the torturing, I knew I won’t be watching that movie.

If the number they give of 300 million guns that means nearly one gun per person in the US, what kind of control will there ever be. Where are all these guns? How can anyone control what is already out there? Just asking.
It’s going to take just putting one step in front of the other on this one. This is just another problem that didn’t happen overnight – it took years and gradual erosion of regulations and sanity. It’s going to take a lot of time to fix it. No silver bullet – pardon the pun.

Dotster, and if the president had set a longer deadline for Biden’s recommendations, the same people would be saying he’s taking it too slow. The fact is he has to act while public sentiment is still high. If it wanes because he took too much time, he’ll lose the groundswell of public support. He already said that gun violence can end if people care enough to stop it.

When the financial management of government systems get deregulated – there always seem to be people who take advantage thinking that the government “can afford it”. I liked the days when all the staff at government schools were teachers – that was their role. Now they have to be managers, accountants, psychologists & sometimes (fortunately not in Australia) armed guards.
Every day makes it more clear to me that all of us who support PBO are going to have to pull out ALL the stops to push back against all the entreched special interests that are determined to maintain the status quo and are funding multiple attacks on his agenda.
First term for POTUS was one of the greatest ones; the second term promises to be even more exceptional because PBO is going to be breaking even more new ground in areas that have held us all back for so long

In ruling out all executive options, such as minting a high-value platinum coin, the White House put the onus on congressional Republicans to agree to raise the nation’s borrowing limit — without spending cuts or strings attached — or permit the first ever credit default. President Obama has steadfastly rebuffed their calls to cut social spending in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, and Democratic leaders support his position.
That leaves Republicans in a difficult position vis-à-vis their promise not to raise the debt ceiling without improving the long-run solvency of programs like Social Security and Medicare.
If they propose safety net cuts that Democrats oppose, risk political blowback. If they back off, conservatives will accuse them of surrender on a top priority.
The situation has left Republicans flummoxed. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) lashed out at Democratic leaders after they sent a letter Friday calling on President Obama to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally if Republicans block congressional action.

Senator Corker’s comment on Chuck Hagel’s temperament is getting a lot of play this morning. Some one pointed out Corker graduated from high school in 1970 at the height of the Vietnam War. Corker elected to avoid the servive. Hagel enlisted in the service and volunteered for Vietnam out of high school. Corker may have made a mistake with his comment.
